Ke$ha's Cannibal: A Cheat Sheet

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 03:52 AM PST

Singer has already scored a hit with new single 'We R Who We R.'
By Gil Kaufman

It's been a pretty phenomenal year for Ke$ha. The brash, glitter-loving club kid burst onto the scene in January with her debut album, Animal, hot on the heels of the smash debut single "Tik Tok."

In short order, she ended the chart run of Susan Boyle when Animal debuted at #1, made her first trip to the Grammy Awards, teamed up with pals 3OH!3 for another hit video with "Blah Blah Blah," dropped in on "American Idol" and hit the road with Rihanna. And that's just the first three months of the year!

But after scoring another hit with "Your Love Is My Drug" and flipping the bird to haters over their critiques of her wobbly debut on "Saturday Night Live," Ke$ha unleashed another single, "Take It Off."

For a minute, there was talk of a follow-up album that might have a country twang, not out of the question considering that she's a Nashville native and her mom penned songs for Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash. But as she said at the time, "I'm also really digging being called, like, half-jokingly, a white-girl rapper. I think it's really funny, and I'm going to ride that train for a little bit."

By August, she was already plotting her next move, telling MTV News, "I'm always writing and kind of thinking of the next step. I'm still executing this record properly onstage, but the next record is definitely on my mind, and potentially in the works soon." She described waking up in Tokyo at 4 in the morning with a brainstorm for a new song and then spending seven hours making a "horrible" beat on "Garage Band" and singing and rapping into her computer.

A short time later, it was announced that her nine-song follow-up, Cannibal, would hit stores November 22 as a "companion" album to a reissue of Animal. The disc was reported to contain eight new songs produced by heavy-hitters like Max Martin, Benny Blanco and Bangladesh and to be preceded by "We R Who We R."

"This year has been carnivorous and life-changing. I have my rowdy, gorgeous fans to thank for taking me on the ride of a lifetime," Ke$ha said in a statement. "My only goal with this record is to keep them dancing. The songs on Cannibal were made to inspire people to ignore any hate or judgment and be themselves unapologetically. It's the perfect companion to Animal and I hope you guys like it. And if you don't like it — bite me."

Though a rumored hookup with Drake was false, a confirmed track list proved to have plenty of profane and silly titles, including (ahem) "C U Next Tuesday," "Sleazy," "Blow," "The Harold Song," "Cannibal," "We R," "Crazy Beautiful Life" and "Grow a Pear," plus a remix of "Animal." After winning an MTV EMA for Best New Act, the singer also locked in her first headlining affair, the Get $leazy Tour, which is slated to kick off February 15 in Portland, Oregon.

Like most major new albums, Cannibal leaked online a week before it hit shelves, perhaps the finest proof yet that Ke$ha has truly hit the big time. Only this time, after most of the songs had hit the Web, Ke$ha just posted the damn thing herself on her website and told her fans to enjoy.

"This is my album premiere, and it's top secret, and it's really fun and it's wild," Ke$ha said in a message posted on her site. "Things are going to get crazy and a little awkward, it'll be okay. Listen to it."

She's going to have plenty of major competition on the charts this week with new releases from Kanye West, Nicki Minaj and My Chemical Romance, but something tells us Ke$ha isn't that worried.

Open the floodgates! It's Mega-Release Week, with Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Jay-Z, Ne-Yo, Ke$ha, My Chemical Romance and Lloyd Banks all dropping new albums. Stick with MTV News for everything you need to know about the brand-new music.

'Deathly Hallows' Director Says 'Tender' Hermione/Ron Scene Was Cut

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 03:52 AM PST

'They're both very funny in it, but it ended up on the DVD because the overall tone of our film is quite intense,' David Yates tells MTV News.

Now that filmgoers have finally had the opportunity to feast their eyes on "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1," it's time for the inevitable overanalyzing of what didn't make the cut — specifically for the "Potter" fanatics, which pages in the book didn't make the film version.

When MTV News caught up with director David Yates, we asked him what cuts were particularly hard for him to make and which of those will end up on the DVD extras.

‪"There are a couple of things that we've lost that just didn't quite survive," he said. "I did this wonderful scene between Hermione and Ron. I wanted to explore their relationship a little bit more, so when Ron leaves it really breaks your heart.

‪"There was a scene we shot up in Scotland; it's a scene where Ron is showing Hermione how to throw a stone on a lake, how to spin a stone on the lake, and Hermione is being really girly about it. She's got a really rubbish throw, and she has to insist that Ron show her how to spin the stone to sort of entice tactility and physical contact, and it's a really funny, tender and moving scene," Yates described. "They're both very funny in it, but it ended up on the DVD because the overall tone of our film, as you know, is quite intense."

‪Yates went on to say that he had the scene in the film, but it just didn't quite fit. "We tried to keep as much of the stuff we felt was important as possible," he said.

Luckily for fans wanting to see that scene, they can look for it on the DVD.

‪"The DVD extras, I would guess there is about 10 or 12 or 15 extra minutes," Yates revealed.

What scene do you want to see on the DVD? What scene do you wish had made the movie? Tell us in the comments!

Street King: Young Chris

Holding It Down For: Philly

Mixtape: The Re-Introduction, hosted by DJ Drama and Don Cannon

Real Spit: We've known Christopher Ries for a minute now from his time on the Roc, where he inked a deal with Jay-Z and Dame Dash as a member of the Young Gunz and State Property. But since Jay and Dame split, the Philadelphia native has been stuck in limbo, releasing a series of mixtapes but toiling on the bench instead of taking the starting spot his talent calls for.

Enter Rico Love. The artist-turned-songwriter/producer (Usher, Beyoncé, Diddy) scored a deal with Universal/Motown to launch his own label, Division 1, and signed Young Chris as his flagship artist.

"I'm like a coach," Rico said. "A guy who is a star, all he needs is a good coach."

The pair's first collection is the aptly titled The Re-Introduction, a set that seeks to put Chris back in the spotlight and into the class of MCs he was compared to earlier in his career, from Lil Wayne to Juelz Santana.

"We been working on the tape since I got with Rico," Chris told Mixtape Daily. "All the records that we cut, that's what we putting out. We getting real cocky with it right now."

For the effort, the D1 team reunited DJ Drama and Don Cannon, the former Aphilliates team who have helmed some of the biggest mixtapes in hip-hop history.

"I guess this is like history: Me and Dram came together," Cannon said. "This is the alliance year. This next decade is gonna be the decade of partnerships, alliances, no matter what."

"This is also the reintroduction of us coming back together," Drama added. "And y'all really understanding where this stems from."

Joints to Check For

» "The Re-Introduction": "That's serious," Chris said about the intro record. "That's one of the first records me and Rico cut, man. He just told me, 'Go crazy on this joint.' No hook or nothing. I just went off. Actually, we got the name of the [mixtape] from that record.

"Pardon me for this sweet interruption," he continued, rapping. "Nah, this ain't no re-enactment, this a reintroduction."

» "Break a Bitch Down" (featuring Rico Love): "The music is intense," Rico said. "We're really excited about the rollout. It's just raw rap and just real hit records and real good songs. Just an MC at his finest."

OK Go Recruit Fans For A Neon Parade

Band uses GPS to spell their name across the streets of Los Angeles.

Fans and friends joined OK Go on Wednesday for a very unique video shoot up and down the streets of Los Angeles. Known for their outrageous and high-concept videos, the band announced a "parade" on their website earlier in the week.

OK Go and their posse spent most of Wednesday afternoon and evening "taking the rock to the streets" as they played music with the crowd on a parade around Los Angeles. Cameras followed the swarm of people all day, many of whom were equipped with noisemakers, megaphones and even some neon instruments. The street path they followed spelled out "OK Go" and, as they described on their website, the band aimed to create a "city-sized drawing" of the band name by using GPS technology along with a special iPhone App to mark the path of their journey.

On location, lead singer Damian Kulash said that, after spending a weekend in New Orleans, they realized "music doesn't need to be about the product you make all the time." Instead, he said, "It can just be about getting together and making sound."

OK Go broke through in 2006 when they released their "Here It Goes Again" music video, in which they maneuvered through an intricately choreographed dance on treadmills. They performed the routine at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards only a few months later.

From their most recent album, Of the Blue Colour of the Sky, the video for "White Knuckles" is an epic piece of art on its own. The video consists of another intricately choreographed routine, this time involving a supporting cast of dogs and a goat.

The parade video is expected to be finished by January. In the meantime, those who are anxious should check out the band's most recent video for "Last Leaf," in which they manage to turn toast into fascinating artwork.

What do you think of OK Go's parade? Let us know in the comments!

Although she was nervous about kicking off Sunday night's (November 21) American Music Awards, Rihanna took the "challenge" and ran with it. Sporting crimson spirals and a skimpy two-piece, the Barbadian songbird turned out energetic renditions of Loud tracks "What's My Name?" and "Love the Way You Lie (Part II)" revved up with tropical touches like a drum circle and dancers in fringe-laden outfits. The songstress' hip-twisting, percussion-heavy set scored a standing ovation from the star-packed crowd.

Rihanna's set established the tone for the rest for the evening, which was marked by similarly epic stage productions. After picking up the award for Pop Music - Favorite Band, Duo or Group, the Black Eyed Peas performed their single from The Beginning, "The Time (Dirty Bit)," hanging out in oscillating Technicolor boxes as dancers sporting cubed headpieces head-banged below.

Enrique Iglesias rocked his bawdy banger "Tonight" for the first time, swapping out the potty-mouthed lyrics for network-TV-friendly lines, crooning, "Please excuse me/ I don't mean to be rude/ But tonight I'm loving you." The Spanish superstar got the help of marching-band drummers and Cuban rapper Pitbull for "I Like It."

Teen queen Miley Cyrus followed up with a subdued performance. Hitting the stage in a long, dark gown -- a far cry from the teeny, skin-baring looks she often favors in concert -- Cyrus sang "Forgiveness and Love" surrounded by tons of lit candles.

Diddy-Dirty Money took the stage for "Coming Home," a midtempo, introspective offering from their long-awaited Last Train to Paris debut. Sporting slick all-black everything, hip-hop mogul Diddy dropped lines like "What if my son stares with a face like my own?/ And says he wants to be like me when he's grown?/ Sh--, but I ain't finish growing," as his son Christian Combs looked on from the audience with a smile.

Onetime "American Badass" Kid Rock turned in a low-key, acoustic performance of "Times Like These," a tribute to his hometown of Detroit.

Katy Perry ripped the stage with a firepower-laden performance of "Firework" backed by pyro-wielding dancers. Heralded by a chorus of young boys sporting sparkly red bow ties, Perry descended from the stage in an enormous star and belted the pop anthem before ripping off her dress to reveal a crimson sparkly jumpsuit. Perry finished up the performance in true diva style, as her dancers hoisted her above their heads.

Although most of the action took place during the performances, Nicki Minaj punched up Rihanna's acceptance for Soul/ Rhythm & Blues Music - Favorite Female Artist by loudly plugging the release of her Pink Friday debut. The singer took the cheeky move in stride, gushing "Don't we all wish we could have green hair and make it look good like Nicki?" when she took the mic and playfully patting Minaj on the behind as they headed backstage.

Pint-size "Whip My Hair" singer Willow Smith, rocking a yellow-and-gray outfit, introduced her "big brother" Justin Bieber, who took to the ivories for "Pray." Flanked by a huge choir, the teen phenom's impassioned rendition of the ballad scored a standing ovation.

Legendary rockers Bon Jovi's set list spanned decades of hits as the foursome played their latest single "What Do You Got?" followed by classic stadium-rock smashes "You Give Love a Bad Name" and "It's My Life."

Increasingly svelte reality star Kelly Osbourne introduced a pregnant Pink, whose blossoming bump made its stage debut. Even with child, the pop rocker powered through "Raise Your Glass," as a bevy of dancers twirled around candy-colored ramps, and brightly hued graffiti lit up monitors on the old-school hip-hop-themed set. The songstress did switch up her performance in one way: the famously acrobatic performer left the tumbling and harness-bound tricks to the dancers.

Ne-Yo pulled off the "theatrical" performance he promised, cranking out a medley of Libra Scale tracks. Sporting his familiar gentlemanly attire of a suit, tie and fedora, the singer and his company of dancers nimbly tore through songs like "Champagne Life," "One in a Million" and "Beautiful Monster," as scenes from his videos added cinematic flourish to the set. The singer also showed off his dramatic side -- and his pecs -- by ripping his shirt open at the end.

Country Music - Favorite Female Artist winner Taylor Swift took a vampy detour from good-girl fashion sensibility when she accepted her hardware in a clingy, silvery mini with her trademark golden spirals blown pin-straight. The country darling later manned the piano for an intimate performance of "Back to December," shaking up the track by folding in some of the lyrics to OneRepublic's smash "Apologize."

When T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist Justin Bieber picked up his second award of the night, the teen superstar unexpectedly thanked a legendary entertainer for paving the way.

"I wanna thank Michael Jackson, because without Michael Jackson, none of us would be here," the Biebs said.

Christina Aguilera debuted a saucy number from her forthcoming onscreen diva-fest alongside music legend Cher, "Burlesque." Strutting around an old-timey peep-show set, the singer and several limber, leggy, lingerie-clad backup dancers brought attitude to "Express (Burlesque)."

Soul/ Rhythm & Blues Music - Favorite Male Artist winner Usher turned out a rave-worthy set with dance-music kingpins Swedish House Mafia for "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love." DJs helmed the wheels of steel and neon-clad revelers enveloped the stage as the veteran superstar hit sharp, athletic moves.

Pop collective Muse picked up hardware for Alternative Rock Music Favorite Artist, and following Usher protégé Justin Bieber's lead, gave a random shout-out to another dead pop-culture game-changer: Charles Darwin.

Train frontman Patrick Monahan brought the sparkle in bedazzled skinny jeans, and several ladies sporting "Soul Sister" T-shirts hit the stage for the band's cheery hit "Hey Soul Sister."

Pop hit factory Ke$ha indulged her inner rock star for a darkly atmospheric medley that included Animal joint "Take It Off" and Cannibal track "We R Who We R." Donning a studded leather jacket and leg-baring bodysuit, the singer smashed a guitar emblazoned with the word "hate."

Artist of the Year went to teen sensation Justin Bieber, who by that time was very familiar with collecting AMA trophies and chose to share the moment with Usher, whom he dubbed "not only my mentor but my best friend." The two sweetly embraced before heading backstage.

The night closed with an epic performance from a crew of artists once known for their fan-hysteria-inducing powers. Chart-busting boy-banders New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys played a medley of some of their major hits. All nine fellas switched between BSB and NKOTB jams like "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" and "Hangin' Tough," sporting club-ready looks and working synchronized moves. The collective closed the set with "Larger Than Life" -- a move likely designed to signal that the boys are back.

Taylor Swift Goes 'Back To December' With Snowy AMA Performance

Taylor Swift sat at her piano on the American Music Awards stage and sang "Back to December." Violinists joined her on the set, which was dressed with Christmas lights on tree branches.

Wearing super-skinny black pants and a black blazer, Swift sang her heart out during the Speak Now ballad about messing up a relationship and apologizing for it. Midway through the song, snow fell on the stage as the stage lights came up showing her band.

Many of the elements of the performance felt similar to the ones she used during her CMA Awards performance earlier this month. But this time, the AMA winner changed things up a bit, and before the song ended, she played around with the theme of the song by singing part of OneRepublic's "Apologize" as she stood up and finished up the tune.

"So this is me swallowing my pride/ Standing in front of you saying 'I'm sorry' for that night/ And I go back to December all the time/ It turns out freedom ain't nothing/ Missing you, wishing I'd realized what I had when you were mine/ I'd go back to December, turn around and make it all right/ I go back to December all the time," Swift sang in the chorus.

Swift was the second pop star of the night to perform from behind the piano. Earlier in the night, fellow AMA winner Justin Bieber sat behind the piano for his performance of the new song "Pray." While Swift opted for snow to bolster her performance, Bieber included a choir.

The dress Nicki Minaj wore to the 2010 American Music Awards was as manic as the female MC's music.

Rihanna couldn't even keep her hands off it: Cameras caught the "What's My Name?" singer sneaking a handful of the Lil Wayne protégé's backside while they were both onstage. According to Minaj, however, the outfit was simply the sartorial symbol of her debut album, Pink Friday.

"It's like, what is it?" she told MTV News on the AMA red carpet. "It's just a weird thing. It looks like it could be a piece on the middle of your table and you picked it up, put some clothing on it, and now you can wear it. It's all about feeling like, 'Grrr.' This dress it the epitome of Pink Friday. This is the dress version of my album.

"It would say, 'I am such a bad diva bitch,' " the "Your Love" star responded when asked what her dress would say if it could talk.

The lady lyricist sported a blond wig with green tips, and her dress featured a subtle pink hue adorned with gold, teal and leopard-print attachments.

Nicki Minaj appeared onstage during the broadcast with Trey Songz and Taio Cruz to announce the Best Female Artist award. She plugged her Pink Friday set, which drops Monday, seconds before announcing the winner, Rihanna, who joked about the rapper's hair.

"Don't we all wish we could have green hair and make it look good like Nicki," Rihanna said, laughing.

They might have been the only nine guys who could close out a show as hectic as the American Music Awards. In a show filled with pop newcomers like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber, New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys graced the stage to show they still had the right stuff.

Like any good boy-band performance, there were pyrotechnics and sweet dance moves. The pop supergroup started with a mash-up of the BSB hit "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" and the NKOTB classic "Hangin' Tough." Soon the guys slowed it down for Backstreet's "I Want It That Way" and then kicked it old school for the New Kids' "Step by Step."

All nine guys took a dance break before they segued into "The Right Stuff," complete with the New Kids' infamous shuffle dance from the video. The spotlight once again fell on a BSB tune before they capped it off with "Larger Than Life," complete with an "NKOTBSB" chant. Confetti fell from the sky as the guys closed out the show.

Earlier in the night, all nine guys hit the AMA red carpet together. In an interview earlier this month, they teased that there was a chance they might record a track together.

"It's tough getting these guys in the studio. These young cats," New Kid Joey McIntyre explained about his tourmates, the Backstreet Boys. "Well, it's honestly, it is tough to get everybody together. Yes, we have lots of great intentions.

Katy Perry has already revealed her inspiration for her latest single, "Firework." But the pop star took the track a step further during a high-energy performance that included sparklers at the American Music Awards on Sunday (November 21).

As the number began, a children's choir crooned the chorus of the empowering tune. It was Perry, however, who really made an entrance, descending from a star suspended from the ceiling. Dressed in a furry red dress (one she later ripped off to reveal another ensemble), the "Teenage Dream" singer walked to the front of the stage as the choir dispersed and backup dancers joined her onstage. Meanwhile, backdrop screens showed a slew of fireworks as Perry's dancers shot sparklers through handheld gadgets.

The pop star ended the visual light-fest on a high note, singing the last few notes of "Firework" while her dancers lifted her high up in the air. Perry is also nominated in multiple AMA categories, including Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Album and Artist of the Year.

The newly married Mrs. Brand teased the performance via Twitter a few days ago, writing, "Just finished AMA rehearsal... I am so excited about this remix performance. It's going to be a mixture of adorable & gorgeous. #AMA'S."

Perry spoke to MTV News about writing the inspirational track, her third single from Teenage Dream. "I think that's why I wrote it, is because I really believe in people and I believe that people have a spark to be a firework," she said. "It's just up to them, and a lot of times it's only us that's standing in the way of reaching our goals, fulfilling our destinies, being the best version of who we possibly can be, so that's why I wrote it."

NKOTB's Jordan Knight tells MTV News that their American Music Awards

Superstar boy bands New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys, who each spent a segment of the '90s causing teen-girl hysteria with their squeaky-clean party jams and baby-faced good looks, are now joining forces for a U.S. tour in June.

On Sunday night (November 21), the country got a taste of what an NKOTBSB show will look like when the nine-member collective closed the 2010 American Music Awards.

Before hitting the AMA stage, the fellas told MTV News that the collaborative awards-show production mirrors the staging of their upcoming trek.

"It's gonna be exactly what they see on the tour," NKOTB's Jordan Knight said of the show, in which the guys took turns belting pop smashes by both groups. "I think a lot of people, when they hear New Kids are going on tour with the Backstreet Boys, they think we're gonna, like, [face] off; we're gonna be some kind of rivalry. But that's not the case. They're gonna see tonight onstage that it's a collaboration, that we get along ... and you'll see it on our performance."

The amiable rapport among the crew is definitely evident when the guys talk about each band's contribution to pop music. Members of NKOTB and BSB maintain that the groups have a symbiotic relationship: The New Kids paved the way, and the Boys kept the boy-band phenomenon alive.

"In many ways, they contemporize us. They brought us to the forefront," NKOTB's Joey McIntyre explained. "When the Backstreet Boys came out, at first you're like, 'OK, these guys are kinda doing their thing.' To get the credit that somehow we started [the boy-band trend] - which we didn't, 'cause there's New Edition and the Jackson 5 and this tradition's being going on forever - they kinda shed a light on what we did too, and that's nice."

Nick Carter added that the "Larger Than Life" crooners were amped to hit the road with their '90s teen-idol forefathers.

"We appreciate and respect everything that these guys have done for the music industry, and now it's just great to be together," he said. "I think that's what's awesome."

NKOTB's resident bad boy Danny Wahlberg compared the team-up to a successful partnership straight out of Hollywood.

"It's Rocky and Apollo taking out Mr. T," he quipped, as the fellas laughed.

Usher's protégé, Justin Bieber, scored more hardware than the "OMG" singer on Sunday night (November 21) at the 2010 American Music Awards, but the veteran superstar was far from a step behind the teen sensation.

Usher ignited the stage during his "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love" performance with fleet footwork and moves that certainly qualified as one of the evening's high points. Decked out in black military garb and sporting a starter mohawk, Usher partied and pranced around onstage to his club-happy single.

"I feel like a zombie gone back to life," Usher sang. "Hands up, and suddenly we all got our hands up/ No control of my body/ Ain't I seen you before?/ I think I remember those eyes, eyes, eyes, eyes."

Backed by dance-world superstars Swedish House Mafia, who powered his set on the turntables, and a gang of dancers, Usher showed off moves that would have tripped up teen stars. At one point, his backup dancers launched him into the air and Usher landed and jumped right into his next step.

A full explosion followed behind him and he carried the energy into the hook.

" 'Cause baby tonight, the DJ got us falling in love again," he crooned. "Yeah, baby tonight/ The DJ got us falling in love again/ So dance, dance, like it's the last, last night of your life, life."

After picking up an award earlier in the evening, Usher acknowledged his veteran status. The 32-year-old thanked his supporters, plugged his OMG Tour with Trey Songz and shouted out longtime fans. "I been doing this 18 years," he said.

Whirring sirens and post-apocalyptic stage design certainly set the tone for Ke$ha's energetic American Music Awards performance on Sunday (November 21). Surrounded by keyboards, Ke$ha kicked it all off in a glowing robot helmet and began her Animal track, "Take It Off."

Soon she was surrounded by dancers, some of whom broke through mirrors to join the singer on the stage as she transitioned into her Cannibal track "We R Who We R." For the performance, Ke$ha let her hair down and graced the stage in a mirrored bodysuit and leather jacket. She danced and gyrated her way through the track off her latest release, out this week.

When she wasn't dancing, she played a white guitar as confetti fell from the ceiling toward the song's synth filled and Auto-Tuned finale. As the song wrapped, she turned the guitar around and revealed that it said "hate" with a slash through it. She destroyed the guitar as sparks flew from behind her.

"This year has been carnivorous and life-changing. I have my rowdy, gorgeous fans to thank for taking me on the ride of a lifetime," she said in a statement. "My only goal with this record is to keep them dancing," she said of the new album. "The songs on Cannibal were made to inspire people to ignore any hate or judgment and be themselves unapologetically. It's the perfect companion to Animal and I hope you guys like it. And if you don't like it -- bite me."

Pink Toasts AMA Crowd With 'Raise Your Glass'

Not long after Bon Jovi took the stage at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at the American Music Awards on Sunday night (November 21) to play a mini-set of greatest hits, Pink dropped by to celebrate her own just-released career retrospective, Greatest Hits ... So Far!!!.

But instead of trolling through her catalog, she stuck to the new single "Raise Your Glass," another sparky bit of pop-foolery on which she once again encourages you to get the party started.

The always-unpredictable (and did we mention pregnant?) singer is clearly not done with the acrobatic feats of daring that she showcased on her most recent tour. But in keeping with her new status as a mom-to-be, she left the acrobatics to the skateboarders and punk cheerleaders who crowded the stage around her as she danced like a B-girl beamed down from the set of 1984's "Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo, " rocking a mini-gold jacket, black high-waisted Hammer pants, black bra and bedazzled black headband.

With a colorful, multi-level set that mixed candy-colored risers and half-pipes, Pink worked the stage as she swayed her head side-to-side amid female dancers being tossed up in the air like they were on the sidelines at a Saturday afternoon college football game. When one of her cohorts offered her a wine glass, she lamented that it was empty, but, you know, that's probably a good thing at this point.

And then, inexplicably, in the middle of the song, she tossed a bucket full of glitter at a portly extra hanging from an aerialist perch. He responded by yelping, off key, "I freakin' love glitter!"

By song's end, she was back center stage and out of breath, beaming as a shower of streamers, balloons and confetti rained down on the crowd. In other words, the perfect ending to a Pink party.

Christina Aguilera Struts Through 'Express (Burlesque)' At AMAs

Xtina gives a glimpse inside her upcoming big-screen debut, at the American Music Awards.

Before she even took the stage at the American Music Awards on Sunday night (November 21), Christina Aguilera had already watched a series of over-the-top performances from show-opener Rihanna, an uncharacteristically sedate Miley Cyrus, the always outrageous Katy Perry and a piano-tinkling, snow-shower summoning Taylor Swift.

In other words, she saw the future, and it was a cornucopia of female stars who have taken cues from her career -- and she made sure to show them that she's still got a few tricks up her sleeve.

Preparing to make her big-screen debut alongside Cher in the upcoming "Burlesque," as promised, Aguilera gave a sneak peek at what we can expect in theaters. "It's going to be fantastic," she told MTV News. "And it will give you a fitting little look inside the movie."

Seated in a chair with her back to the audience and wearing a black spangly bodysuit, knee-high boots and a bowler, Aguilera snapped her fingers and leaned into the jazzy, skittery rhythms of the new tune "Express (Burlesque)." As the camera pulled out, it revealed a set made up to mimic the backstage at a burlesque club, with Aguilera surrounded by a squadron of equally scantily clad dancers.

She flashed back to the "Dirrty"-era Xtina, straddling and shimmying on the chair, then busting into the song's uptempo chorus and showing off the throaty pipes that made her a star. Shaking her hair along with her lingerie-clad dancers, the singer was clearly back in her element, mixing club beats with a throwback, "Free Your Mind"-style R&B vibe and strutting across the stage confidently with her patented growly sass intact.

Even after a career spent in the spotlight as a child star on the "Mickey Mouse Club" and a pop icon since her late teens, Aguilera said the difficulty of trying to reproduce the dancing in the film for the AMAs took a toll on her. "It will be another very new challenge for me," Aguilera admitted beforehand. "My legs have been incredibly sore as I stepped into the role of Ali for this." In the film, Aguilera plays a small-town girl with big dreams who stumbles on a burlesque club owned by the feisty Tess (Cher).

Aguilera added that, while relearning the dance routines was grueling, the choreography is amazing. "You're going to get quite the show," she promised. "Quite the spectacle."

While Aguilera is new to the world of acting, Cher told MTV News that the pop star can dish it out with the best of them. "The scenes that she and I had together, I really enjoyed, and I really believe that she's got definite chops," she said. "We worked well together. I enjoyed all of it, and she was toe-to-toe with me the whole time."

Ne-Yo may be the ultimate gentleman, but the singer/songwriter was rough and rousing during his medley set at the 2010 American Music Awards on Sunday night (November 21). During his performance, the R&B artist sang parts of no less than three songs from his about-to-be-released album, Libra Scale.

Ne-Yo stormed the stage to his stirring hit "Champagne Life" before quickly transitioning to "One in a Million," for which he tossed his jacket aside and darted toward the object of his affection.

"Girl, you're so one in a million," he sang over the breezy track. "You are/ Baby, you are the best I ever had/ And I'm certain that there ain't nothing better/ No, there ain't nothing better than this."

Ne-Yo danced nimbly and swiftly while a pack of females in red circled around him as he tried to zone in on his leading lady.

The action on stage subsided moments later, however, when Ne-Yo launched into "Beautiful Monster."

Alone on stage, Ne-Yo and his love interest tangled and traded some fancy footwork before she tossed her white coat aside to reveal risqué lingerie.

"She's a monster, beautiful monster/ Beautiful monster, but I don't mind," he sang to the synth-heavy track. "And I need her, said I need her/ Beautiful monster, but I don't mind/ No, I don't mind."

Prior to his AMA performance, Ne-Yo told MTV News that he would deliver a "theatrical" set during Sunday's telecast.

"There's a storyline that flows through the entire album," he explained. "So we're basically trying to take the story of Libra Scale and summarize it into about four minutes and put it on stage for you."

Libra Scale hits stores on Monday (November 22).

If there's one act who knows just how to get everyone on their feet, it's the Black Eyed Peas. On Sunday (November 21), the group showed up at the American Music Awards to perform their brand-new single, "This Time (The Dirty Bit)," delivering a flashy, glow-in-the-dark spectacle.

Descending from four box chambers, each BEP member remained the focus on the dark stage as will.i.am sang the beginning lines of their new single, which samples the "Dirty Dancing" theme song, "(I've Had) The Time of My Life." While the frontman belted his semi-autotuned notes, each of the bandmates rose up and down in their flashing chamber until they reached the floor and emerged to show off futuristic neon outfits.

Throughout the song, the quartet crooned to the tune and worked the stage as they displayed some freestyle dancing moves alongside a series of dancers wearing box-shaped headpieces. After the performance ended, will.i.am made sure to plug the release of the Peas' new album, saying, "November 30, The Beginning. Welcome to the future!"

In addition to their neon-lit number, BEP also hit the stage to accept the award for Favorite Band, Duo or Group, beating out Lady Antebellum and Train for the honor.

"This Time" is the lead single from the Black Eyed Peas' upcoming album, The Beginning. The 12-song collection is an '80s-influenced effort that promises to once again bring listeners to the dance floor.

Fans likely will get to see the band on another big stage this February, as it's been reported that the Black Eyed Peas will descend on Cowboys Stadium in Dallas for the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show.

Rihanna Opens American Music Awards With Island Flavor

Days after dropping her fifth disc, Loud, Rihanna made a flamboyant statement at the American Music Awards on Sunday night (November 21).

Although the Barbadian singer, who was also nominated for Favorite Female Artist, recently admitted to MTV News that kicking off the show "is a lot of pressure," the flame-haired songstress handled awards-show opening duties with aplomb and her typical sassy energy.

The singer opened the performance a cappella with "Love the Way You Lie Part II," perched on a stylized tree hovering above a field of sable-colored blades of grass. After plummeting from the "tree," which was actually a glowing spiked set piece, she emerged from plumes of fog and busted into "What's My Name?" A lightning-quick costume change revealed her in a black-and-white bra top and boy shorts, her red hair twisted into tight curls as she gyrated to the beat of the calypso-tinged jam. She belted the track solo until dancers in fringed skirts invaded the stage for a dancehall--themed breakdown.

Rihanna then kicked up the island theme, as drummers pounded away and more dancers rocking tribal-themed garb hit the stage for "Only Girl in the World." The drummers encircled the Ri and the strobe lights kicked on as she rocked the bridge, jamming alongside the musicians with sultry abandon. Flames shot up from the back of the set as about a dozen dancers helped her wrap up the high-energy, cross-cultural performance. All the characters left the stage to allow Rihanna to return to the large spiky set-piece and end as she began, crooning the final notes solo. The star-packed audience rose for a standing ovation.

While Rihanna is still in her early twenties, the songbird is five albums deep into her superstar career. Even with a towering stack of hits behind her the Loud singer has said she's amped to unleash her latest effort, which she pegs as a collection of tracks that really sum up what she's all about.

"I can't believe it's the fifth album already," she told the BBC in October. "That's insane to think about. ... I've never been this excited about anything I've done creatively, and this is just the perfect Rihanna album: Every song is tailored to me."

She also wanted the record to reflect her signature style, not just crank out standard-issue pop jams.

"I wanted songs that were all Rihanna songs that nobody else could do. I didn't want the generic pop record that Ke$ha or Lady Gaga or Katy Perry could just do and it'll work. I wanted a song, or songs, that were Rihanna songs, that only I could do, had that little West Indian vibe to it, had that certain tone, a certain sass and a certain energy."

Sitting at a piano, Justin Bieber showed his haters he's more than a pretty face and floppy hair for his American Music Awards performance. Bieber played his new single, the uplifting ballad "Pray," which is a departure from his usual upbeat pop fare.

There were no pyrotechnics and no backup dancers. The beginning of the performance was all about Bieber singing the new track off his My Worlds Acoustic album (out on Friday). Midway through the song, however, Bieber threw in that showmanship that's made him famous.

Just one performance after Katy Perry used a children's choir for her performance of her equally inspirational song, "Firework," Bieber was joined by a choir of his own. He ended the song on his knees while the crowd rose to their feet to give him a standing ovation.

The track — which features a mid-tempo, world-music beat, synths and Bieber's vocals in a lower key than we've heard before — repeats one simple refrain in the chorus. "I close my eyes and I can see a better day/ I close my eyes and pray," he sings.

"It's a very uplifting song, very motivational," Bieber told Ryan Seacrest earlier this week about the song. "It definitely comes from the heart. It's very beautiful. I definitely thought of Michael [Jackson's] 'Man in the Mirror' when I was writing it.

The track can be found on the singer's third release in a year, which features acoustic versions of some of his biggest hits like "Baby."

Pop star performs mid-tempo ballad on Sunday after reports she would sing Poison cover 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn.'

Maybe it was Miley Cyrus' take on her parents' recently announced split or perhaps it was just a breather from her recent spate of provocative awards-show numbers. But the singer slowed things down with her mid-tempo balled "Forgiveness and Love" at the American Music Awards on Sunday night (November 21). In a demure, long-sleeve black dress, the teen sensation belted out the track on a candlelit stage.

"The only thing that our hearts are made of/ Are the acts of forgiveness and love/ The only thing real, when push comes to shove/ Are the acts of forgiveness and love," she sang.

After the song ended, cameras caught the singer's mom. (Michaels has denied the rumors.) Tish, smiling and clapping from her seat in the audience. According to online reports, Cyrus was to perform her cover of Poison's classic "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," but backed out after rumors surfaced that the band's frontman, Bret Michaels, had an affair with the singer's mom.

With the singer's 18th birthday just around the corner, Cyrus recently told MTV News that she hopes to have her family together for the big occasion.

"I'm not going to go crazy; [just] have a fun party and then maybe take a vacation with my family ... because that would be really cool. I think we need time to all be together," she said. "So that would be rad if we could all go to the beach or something. ... [I have] no idea [where we're going]; somewhere near water. I'm a water baby; I have to be near the water and I love doing scuba and going out and being on a boat."
