HOLLYGROVE, New Orleans — Lil Wayne is a free man but before the otherwordly MC returns to the studio to get back to recording, he's traveling across the country to attend to legal obligations and family reunions.

Wayne arrived in Yuma, Arizona, on Friday afternoon (November 5) to finalize his probation stemming from another case, and he's expected to show up at Drake's Las Vegas tour finale on Saturday before his official homecoming party in Miami on Sunday.

But before he returns to the limelight, Wayne was heading back to his hometown: Hollygrove, New Orleans. According to Young Money's Mack Maine, he and Wayne, along with others, had plans to attend Friday's New Orleans Hornets hoops game against the Miami Heat.

"We about to go to the Heat game, they playing the Hornets," Mack told MTV News on Friday. "[Hornets Guard Chris Paul] provided us courtside tickets. We just celebrating life, just trying to pick up where we left off from. We'll hit the studio soon, we got the party Sunday, [but] right now, this is where it all started.

"The past 12 hours since he's been home, it's been a lot of family time, everybody just catching up with him," Maine continued. "We're talking, smiling and laughing. He got to see his kids; that was a great feeling for him. He just left court in Arizona, and he's heading here now. So basically, it's just been a little work and a lot of fun."

The rapper was later photographed at the game, seated next to Maine, manager Cortez Bryant and label head Bryan "Baby" Williams. He sported dark sunglasses, a white T-shirt and a red fitted cap. The tightly contested game went down to the wire and The Times-Picayune snapped Wayne eagerly holding his hair wrapped beneath his chin as he watched his hometown Hornets defeat LeBron James and company, 96-93.

The superstar lyricist does not have any formal plans while he's in town. He's expected to reconnect with hometown friends and family, according to Mack Maine.

"I'm pretty sure the city has been waiting to see him," he said, flanked by Kangol Slim and Mista Meana of New Orleans act Partners-N-Crime.

"We out here," he added. "We're energetic."

Just a day after his release from prison, Lil Wayne is staying on the move.

The rapper touched down in Arizona on Friday (November 5) after jetting from New York hours before for a court appearance. The MC's motorcade was spotted in Yuma Friday afternoon, where Wayne is expected to sign paperwork in connection with a two-year-old drug arrest.

The superstar lyricist was chauffeured in a Black Ford Excursion as part of a six-car caravan. The vehicles circled the Arizona Superior Court in Yuma County around 1:10 p.m. local time, where several bystanders awaited a glimpse of the MC in 84-degree heat. However, Wayne did not enter the courthouse, and finished his legal business blocks away at the Yuma County Adult Probation center, leaving around 1:45 p.m.

Wayne was picked up on January 22, 2008, at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint where officials claimed Ecstasy, cocaine and a handgun was found on the MC's tour bus. Weezy copped a plea deal during his eight-month Rikers bid for weapons charges for the Arizona case, and was handed a sentence of community service and three years of unsupervised probation. Wayne was able to skirt additional prison time through the deal and pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a dangerous drug in exchange for the dismissal of three other drug and weapons charges.

"Even though it's treated as a felony while he's on probation, if he completes his probation without any violations, the offense will be redesignated as a misdemeanor," Wayne's Arizona attorney, James Tilson, told MTV News on Tuesday.

The rest of Weezy's schedule hasn't been pinned down but the members of the newly freed MC's camp have hinted he has a jet-setting weekend ahead. Drake has teased a possible Weezy appearance at the final stop of the Toronto lyricist's Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour in Las Vegas. In addition, Wayne's ex-wife, Antonia "Toya" Carter, told MTV News an intimate family gathering is in the works in Miami, and Young Money label chief, Mack Maine, gave details of the MC's blowout bash Sunday night in the Florida city.

Lil Wayne's Arizona Attorney Breaks Down Probation

In an exclusive sit-down with MTV News, lawyer James Tilson says Weezy 'looked like he was in a very good place' on Friday.

YUMA, Arizona — Moments after Lil Wayne was whisked away from his legal proceedings in Yuma, Arizona, on Friday (November 5), MTV News sat down exclusively with Weezy's local counsel, James Tilson.

Tilson, the attorney assigned to Weezy's case in Arizona from the outset, broke down the details of his client's case as it winds down.

"Today was to sign papers at the probation department," Tilson said. "He was placed on unsupervised probation for 36 months. But because his residence is outside the state of Arizona, he has to file the paperwork and apply for interstate compact, which is a long way of saying he's gonna have to be supervised in another state. He doesn't really have supervision, he doesn't have an officer he has to report to, but there's a process of getting the probation switched from Arizona to Florida where his residence is."

WEEZY WATCH

Tilson continued, "This is the beginning of that process. The paperwork was all signed [in Yuma], that'll be forwarded to Florida. He has counsel in Florida; they'll be taking care of that."

On Friday, MTV News also learned details of Wayne's probation terms, which include a provision that prohibits him from consuming or drinking "any substances containing alcohol" for three years.

As far as Wayne having to make another appearance in Arizona, Tilson said he doesn't foresee that being necessary.

"The case is over here and the probation will continue for 36 months unless we decide that there's reasons why it can terminate sooner," Tilson explained. The probation period, which includes the process of "getting all the conditions met and [provided] his behavior has been well and everything's fine, it could [end] sooner than that," he added.

For those who speculated that Lil Wayne's spirits might have been dampened by the prospect of a cross-country detour to settle his case in Yuma, Tilson argued otherwise.

"Actually, I thought he looked very up, he looked like he was in a very good place. He was glad to see his attorneys here. I got to share a little small talk with him. I asked him about some of the things we had talked about before — he seemed very good."

As for Wayne's next steps, "He will be back in Florida by Sunday and he has a reporting requirement by Wednesday, but the details we didn't get into," Tilson concluded.

MTV News has crews on the ground at all possible locations, so we'll be sure to update you on Wayne's latest moves.

Drake Recounts First Post-Prison Phone Call With Lil Wayne

On penultimate stop of his Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour, the 'Miss Me' MC whips L.A. crowd into frenzy with Wayne details.

Lil Wayne was released from Rikers Island on Thursday, and while 3,000 miles stood between him and Drake — the rapper was in Los Angeles for the next-to-last stop on his Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour — the power of technology allowed them to reconnect in more ways than one.

Onstage at the Gibson Amphitheatre on Thursday, Drake told the crowd, according to a fan video posted on Rap-UpTV, that he'd gotten a phone call from Wayne earlier that day and recounted their conversation.

"I said, 'Hello?' All I heard on the other end was, 'Yo.' [Again] I said, 'Hello?' All I heard on the other end was, 'Yo.' I said, 'Yo, who the f--- is this?' And all I heard on the other end was, 'Haha, it's Weezy F., baby.' I said, 'It's good to have you back.' He said, 'What the f--- is up?' I said, 'I'm chillin', man. Finally made it to the greatest city in the whole muthaf---in' world.' ... He said, 'I'm in New York with the family,' but he said, 'You think they still love Lil Wayne out there in L.A.?' I said, 'Since I'll see you in a couple days, instead of telling you the obvious answer to that question, I'mma just show you how much they love you.' "

The crowd then erupted into chants of "Weezy," as Drake turned a handheld camera on them, filming the audience's reaction, perhaps to show Lil Wayne later. "L.A., I'm gonna keep this camera on," he told the crowd. "I know for a fact that Lil Wayne cannot wait to come back to L.A. and shut this place down. So this next song is in honor of the fact that he'll be home soon."

The Toronto MC closes out his 24-date tour Saturday in Las Vegas at the Joint. Drake recently told MTV News reuniting with Wayne in Sin City was plausible. "I would just advise you to book a ticket out there," he said. "If you can get tickets to that show on the 6th, I would strongly advise it."

Cash Money head Birdman was one of the first people to welcome Lil Wayne home from his prison bid Thursday, and the man who calls Weezy his "son" said their first post-jail conversation was about expressing love and living it up.

"We had Ms. Cita, his mama with us, [and] we let him embrace mama first," Birdman told Los Angeles radio personality Big Boy on Thursday after Wayne was released. Birdman said the superstar MC told him, "I love you and let's go. I'm ready to go. I wanna go eat, I wanna go chill, I wanna see the family. And after that, we gon' do what we do, we gonna pop bottles and look at these models."

Birdman also expressed his feelings about having Wayne back in the Young Money/ Cash Money fold, and thanked a higher power for Weezy's return.

"I just looked at it like, 'Wow, man. God is great, ' " he said. "Almighty did it. I can't see nothing else. It's [an] exciting feeling. I know where we come from and I know where it comes from and we keep our faith and belief in God and keep working hard. We gonna keep trying to reach more and more goals."

In October, Birdman opened up to MTV News about how the YMCMB camp was holding up in Weezy's absence, and said the MC's prison bid was an unforeseen wrench in the crew's master plan.

"Everybody just working hard, energized about him about to come home," the Cash Money head said. "We worked, but him being gone — that was just a left turn in life. We wasn't expecting anything like that but we had to deal with it."

The New Orleans vet added that he was proud to see the viral "Free Weezy" movement take off and watch the careers of Young Money power players Drake and Nicki Minaj shoot toward the hip-hop stratosphere.

"The 'Free Weezy' campaign [has] been real natural," he explained. "The way Nicki and Drake's been able to grow, but at the same time they make sure that even as their stars are getting brighter — even [in concert] they said, 'When I say this, You say, 'Free Weezy.' As a businessman, you get to see two of your people grow."

Lil Wayne Can't Drink For Three Years Under Probation

Posted: 05 Nov 2010 03:49 AM PDT

Terms of MC's probation for 2008 Arizona case were revealed on Friday.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

Lil Wayne isn't allowed to drink alcohol for three years, according to Arizona probation documents obtained by TMZ.

According to the papers, the newly freed MC (born Dwayne Carter), who just wrapped up an eight-month prison bid for gun possession, "may not consume or drink any substance containing alcohol" under the provisions of his probation for a 2008 Arizona drug and weapons case. Weezy also cannot knowingly consort with any individual involved in criminal activity or anybody that has a criminal record without getting approval in writing from the probation department.

Additional terms make possessing toxic vapors, controlled substances or illegal drugs also off-limits to the MC. Wayne must submit to drug and alcohol testing. He could be sent back to prison to ride out the remainder of his time on probation if he fails to comply with the terms.

Wayne was taken into custody in January 2008 at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint, where authorities alleged that Ecstasy, cocaine and a handgun were found on the MC's tour bus. Weezy copped a plea deal that has him doing mandatory community service, in addition to three years of unsupervised probation. Wayne pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a dangerous drug in exchange for the dismissal of three other drug and weapons charges.

If Wayne behaves himself throughout his probation, the severity of his original offense will be downgraded.

"Even though it's treated as a felony while he's on probation, if he completes his probation without any violations, the offense will be redesignated as a misdemeanor," Wayne's Arizona attorney, James Tilson, told MTV News on Tuesday.

Weezy is currently in celebration mode, with a major throwdown set to kick off in Miami Sunday. However, an expert recently told MTV News that, among the challenges that someone in Wayne's position faces, he has to be careful not to overindulge in his newfound freedom.

"The danger is when you have been deprived of something and then get it in excess, you swallow it and take it up in excess and it becomes a rush, it becomes an extreme version," said psychotherapist Allison Bobick, director of student advancement at New York's Touro College Graduate School of Social Work. "They're both extremes, and whenever you have those extremes, it prohibits you from living a healthy lifestyle."

Michael Jackson's New Album Cover Decoded

Posted: 05 Nov 2010 01:25 AM PDT

Painting is packed with iconic MJ images.
By Gil Kaufman

Michael Jackson's <i>Michael</i>

When Michael hits shelves next month, the world will get the first of a promised flurry of posthumous releases from late pop superstar Michael Jackson. While we don't know yet what songs will appear on the album, Jackson's label, Sony Music, did release the cover art, a Kadir Nelson painting that takes fans on a fantasy ride through the greatest moments of the King of Pop's solo career.

(Check out our side-by-side analysis of the visual references on the Michael cover and the original moments in his career.)

The painting by Kadir Nelson features a montage of classic MJ images, from his Off the Wall-era tux to looks from the "Thriller" video. At the center is a a somber, Renaissance-like of Jackson in royal gold and burgundy vestments, a golden crown hovering over his head.

Let's break down the references:

Almost as iconic as the cover photo on Thriller is the pensive image of Jackson from the front of another one of his smashes, 1987's Bad, which sold more than 30 million copies.

Jackson's video for "Beat It" is one of the most beloved of all time. His signature red leather jacket with the acres of unnecessary zippers, the bright blue t-shirt and the legion of pirouetting bad boys are all present in the painting's representation of that clip.

One of the other Thriller-era looks that's cemented in the minds of fans during is the custom-made tuxedo jacket, pink shirt and red bowtie that Jackson wore in the "Billie Jean" video.

The cover of 1991's Dangerous portrayed Jackson as a mystery man hiding among a circus of bizarre, sideshow attractions. Here, Nelson has isolated a part of the cover that pays homage to the rollercoaster scene from the 1989 video for "Leave Me Alone."

Jackson appears, under a cluster of cameras, in the silver spacesuit he wore in his 1986 3-D space flick "Captain EO." The 17-minute film, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, debuted at the Disneyland EPCOT amusement park and went offline in 1998; it began screening again in 2010 following Jackson's death.

The spaceship from one of Jackson's favorite fantasy movies, Steven Spielberg's 1982 film "E.T.," floats in the painting's sky. Jackson contributed the song "Someone in the Dark" to the movie's Grammy-winning storybook, which he also narrated.

Another scene from the "Leave Me Alone" video isolating the rocketship the singer flies around in during the clip.

This detail from the "Leave Me Alone" video depicts a goldfish swimming in a bowl, another likely reference to Jackson's feeling of being constantly scrutinized. An interesting detail is the addition of a crown to the fish's head, which is likely another reference to Jackson's status as pop royalty.

One of the key scenes from the 1987 video for "The Way You Make Me Feel" — in which Jackson prepares to unleash some of his classic dance moves in silhouette — is also depicted.

MTV's Moonman makes an appearance, a reference to the fact that Jackson's legendary videos were instrumental both in the development of the channel and the art form itsemf.

As we float above the royal image of Jackson — which is similar to a number of paintings the singer commissioned during his life in which he was placed into historical settings — we arrive at the menacing robotic face in the corner from Jackson's 1988 movie "Moonwalker," which co-starred Joe Pesci.

If there is a single moment in MJ's career that can be considered ground zero for his superstardom, it might be his 1983 performance on "Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever." There, he unveiled his signature dance move, the Moonwalk, for the first time.

With the sun setting behind him, we see a 21-year-old Jackson sporting his late-'70s afro and a tuxedo, an homage to the cover of his breakthrough solo album Off the Wall.

Some of Jackson's most gravity-defying moves popped up in the Prohibition-themed clip for 1987's "Smooth Criminal."

The best-selling video of all time, "Thriller" is, to this day, thought of as the "Citizen Kane" of music videos. Here we see Jackson backed by some of the ghouls from the werewolf-themed mini-movie, which was shot by "Animal House" director John Landis. A classic scene from the "Thriller" video during which Jackson does his spotlight dance with the undead.

In addition to being one of the best-selling artists of all time, Jackson was also a humanitarian involved in many causes. He co-wrote and performed on 1985's legendary "We Are The World." Here he's depicted alongside some of the other stars from that once-in-a-lifetime charity single, including co-writer Lionel Richie, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Cyndi Lauper.

Hidden just behind Jackson's get-up from the "Smooth Criminal" video is a mirror with a reflection of the singer, which Nelson likely included as a sly reference to one of the Jackson's most beloved ballads, "Man in the Mirror." But also hidden in the image, just above the elephant's head, is a bubble containing singer Prince's signature male-female glyph. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Jackson and Prince had a contentious, competitive relationship and the inclusion of the diminutive Minneapolis star's logo could be intended as a playful tweak.

What was your favorite Michael Jackson moment depicted in the Michael cover painting? Let us know in the comments!

Lil Wayne And MTV News: A Timeline

Posted: 05 Nov 2010 01:20 AM PDT

From his start as a baby-faced, 14-year-old Hot Boy to his reign as one of the Hottest MCs in the Game, we track Weezy's career.
By Hillary Crosley

Lil Wayne celebrates his release from prison, MTV News decided to take look at Weezy's career, and as we sorted through vintage footage of the young MC, we realized that MTV and Wayne go way back.

MTV News caught up with Cash Money in 1999, at the very beginning, and correspondent Chris Connelly was so surprised that Wayne was the youngest member of the crew that he had to confirm that he was indeed 14 years old.

"Yeah, but that's on the hush," Lil Wayne responded.

"I used to always be in the neighborhood and they had a former artist named Lil Slim," said Wayne explaining how he came to join Cash Money and the Hot Boys foursome. "He was from the same neighborhood as me and he saw me rapping and so he was like, 'I'mma put you on.' "

1997: Cash Money's Hot Boys group, composed of rappers Turk, Juvenile, B.G. and Wayne himself, released their first album, Get It How U Live!, followed by 1999's Guerrilla Warfare.

2000: Lil Wayne joined his label family for a tour with New York's Ruff Ryders rap camp. The tour, which mashed New Orleans hip-hop and their dashes of bounce music (a musical style native to the Big Easy) with brash East Coast MCs like DMX and the Lox, was one of hip-hop's hottest tickets. And according to Wayne at the time, it wasn't family-friendly.

Bookmark weezywatch.mtv.com for MTV News' complete, round-the-clock coverage of Lil Wayne's prison release and the ensuing homecoming celebrations.

"I can't have my family around ... these dudes nasty man!" Lil Wayne laughed to MTV News' John Norris.

2003: That year, the Hot Boys put out their final LP, Let 'Em Burn, but Lil Wayne had made strides away from the group in 1999 with his first solo album, Tha Block Is Hot. Lights Out followed in 2000, and then 500 Degreez in 2002. The MC began his highly successful Tha Carter series with his first installment in 2004. By 2005, Wayne had released Tha Carter II and was working hard with, well, everyone — from Fat Joe to Bobby Valentino.

"I done became a little virus now, you know, everybody have me on they song," Wayne said of his ubiquitous presence both on the rap radio and mixtape scenes.

"That'd be my goal," Wayne said when asked about his then-wild claims that he was the best rapper alive. "Right now, they be like, 'Lil Wayne, he say he's the best.' "

2007: The MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust argued his rank on the Hottest MCs in the Game list and staff members Joseph Patel and Andrea Duncan-Mao laid out Wayne's talents.

"Wayne talking about his jewelry, 'Looking like I have a diamond disease on my neck,' " Patel said. "His imagery is off the charts."

"Wayne takes chances and he's kinda scary," MTV.com's Andrea Duncan-Mao said.

"I don't know how I do what I do, but I did it," Wayne told MTV News during a studio session in 2007.

Ultimately, Lil Wayne was crowned the Hottest MC in the Game that year. "Don't mean to sound vain but, they say I'm the Hottest MC in the Game and if I am, it's only because of [the fans]," Weezy told the MTV cameras.

Not long after reacting to his coronation, Lil Wayne was arrested on weapons charges by New York City police after authorities found a firearm on his tour bus.

2008: The next year, the MC dropped Tha Carter III and sold more than a million copies in its first week. But the glory was marred by his legal troubles including the weapons charges, which would ultimately result in his incarceration.

"This is my bus, I don't blame nobody but myself. I can't blame nobody for not taking my charge, for not taking this that or the third," he told MTV News of his reaction to his jail sentence. "I can't blame nobody."

2010: Before turning himself in, in March 2010, Lil Wayne made sure to film a bevy of videos, including pop hits like "Knockout" featuring Nicki Minaj, as well as record a slew of features to tide over his fans until his release from Rikers Island.

On Thursday, November 4, the MC was discharged around 8:30 a.m. and driven in a Maybach to a New York hotel. There, Lil Wayne visited with family and friends who flew in from all over the country to be with their Cash Money/ Young Money captain.

B.o.B Promises An 'Arena Rock' Show At The MTV EMAs

MADRID — Thanks to the success of songs like "Nothin' On You" and "Airplanes," B.o.B has gone global in 2010, so performing in Spain is nothing new for the Atlanta-bred MC.

But when that performance comes at the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards ... well, that's a different story. Because even though B.o.B has rocked stages — and award shows — all around the world, he's definitely planning on taking things to another level this time out, as we found out when we spoke to him minutes after he wrapped a booming, electric rehearsal.

"It feels like arena rock, that's what it feels like," he told MTV News' special EMA correspondent Gabe Saporta on Friday (November 5). "I feel the VMAs, it was real sleek, real suave. I feel like over here, it's just about rocking, and that's just what we might do."

Saporta joked that Madrid's Caja Magica — which will play host to the 2010 EMAs on Sunday — seats "about 100,000," a number that didn't intimidate B.o.B in the slightest. Quite the opposite, in fact.

"That's a lot of people under one roof!" he laughed. "Can you imagine if 100,000 people just hot-boxed the whole arena?"

No, we can't, but now that you mention it, that would be pretty awesome. And again, though award shows are nothing new to B.o.B, the EMAs just seem different ... a whole new experience for a guy who, after a massive 2010, is practically running out of ways to be amazed.

"I'm excited to check our Rihanna, [and] I want to check out Katy Perry," he said. "[But] really, [I'm] excited to see how the crowd embraces the artists and the performers. Every time I come to Europe, it's a very receptive crowd. They really appreciate the music."

The 2010 EMAs will air on MTV2 on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET, and an edited, performance-heavy version will be broadcast Friday, November 12, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.

Birdman Calls Lil Wayne's Absence A 'Left Turn'

His Young Money/ Cash Money family carried on in his absence until Lil Wayne finally left Rikers Island on Thursday, but the crew tells MTV News they missed the MC quite a bit during his eight months of incarceration.

"He's my son, so you are always going to miss a loved one," Birdman told us in October. "At the same time, we're doing what we love to do. Work hard, keep the music poppin' and we all excited that he's about to come home any minute. He's happy. He wants to get out of that place."

Birdman admitted that the MC's prison stay put a cramp in the camp's plans.

"Everybody just working hard, energized about him about to come home," the Cash Money head said. "We worked, but him being gone — that was just a left turn in life. We wasn't expecting anything like that but we had to deal with it."

While Lil Wayne was away, his label's brand continued to grow, bolstered by the rise of Drake and Nicki Minaj as the leaders of Young Money's roster. The movement proved to have legs, Baby said.

The Cash Money exec said that Weezy believed in his Young Money crew so much that Birdman and his label partner, Slim, had no choice but to expect greatness.

"It's genuine from the heart; I really appreciate what he did for them [by] blessing their lives. We wasn't expecting nothing else, but to see it happening," Birdman continued, reflecting on Drake and Nicki's success. "To see how Drake going hot, Nicki growing hot ... Tyga, Twist, all of them ... Wayne didn't get to see this. All this popped off within the couple of months he was gone."

With Drake's Thank Me Later and Nicki's numerous guest features alongside artists like Ludacris and Trey Songz, Young Money/ Cash Money ruled Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop chart in 2010. Now that Lil Wayne is free, he can finally fulfill the dreams of the man who calls him "son."

"I want him to see everybody working, everybody is putting in hard work," Baby concluded. "We goin' in. I'd like to see them go and exercise their vision. So there are things that they want to do and be the artist that they want to be. I'm proud of them working hard and when he gets back home, he's going to jump back in and do what he do."

According to recently surfaced footage, Lil Wayne left the big house in high style. The superstar spitter was hustled out of Rikers Island on Thursday under the noses of the media and fans, but video of Wayne being released, caught by local news station NY1, shows the MC being chauffeured in a black Maybach. The station reports that Wayne was granted a special type of release away from Rikers Island for security reasons related to his status as a high-profile inmate.

Since Weezy's release, the MC has remained on the move. He left New York on Friday (November 5) and touched down in Yuma, Arizona to handle legal obligations stemming from a 2008 drug arrest. The superstar lyricist was spotted riding in a Black Ford Excursion that was part of a six-car caravan, and left the Yuma County Adult Probation center around 1:45 p.m. local time.

Hints about Wayne's weekend itinerary suggest the MC will be crossing several state lines and time zones in the days ahead. Drake has teased Wayne may appear at his Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour closing date in Las Vegas on Saturday. Wayne's ex-wife, Antonia "Toya" Carter, recently told MTV News a gathering of close friends and family may go down in Miami, and Young Money label chief Mack Maine said Wayne will live it up with a huge homecoming celebration at one of the city's strip clubs on Sunday.

MTV News has crews on the ground at all possible locations, so we'll be sure to update you on Wayne's latest moves.

Michael Jackson's New Single, 'Breaking News,' Teased in Video

A 42-second promo for posthumous track, to be released Monday, appears on King of Pop's official website.

With a title that plays perfectly into the controversy that surrounded Michael Jackson's career, the lead single, "Breaking News," off the King of Pop's first posthumous album, Michael, is set to premiere Monday. Fans who'd like a preview might want to head to the singer's official website: A 42-second trailer has been posted for the never-before-heard track.

The video teaser, which appears below a "Breaking News" headline, begins with a slew of reporters announcing: "As the plot thickens to destroy Michael Jackson ..."

The camera then pans between Sony televisions screens, all showing media reports on the late singer. The montage intensifies as the screens flicker, one after another, until the rumble of reporters is silenced with a thud and a voice-over announcing a breaking news story.

The teaser concludes with flashing text displaying Monday's world premiere date for the new single, then showing cover art for the new album. The instrumental music playing in the background may be from the song "Breaking News." While no vocals are present on the dance-tune snippet, the pop star's signature croon ends the video.

According to a press release, the entire new song will stream on the singer's website for one week. The track, which was recorded in 2007, was recently completed by the producers of Jackson's posthumous album, Michael. The LP is scheduled to hit stores December 14.

It has been reported that Jackson was continuously creating music until his death in 2009.

"The creative process never stopped for the King of Pop, who was always planning for his next album; unbeknownst to many fans around the world, Michael Jackson was writing and recording songs continuously everywhere from a friend's home in New Jersey to studios in Las Vegas and Los Angeles with a small group of handpicked collaborators," the press release says.

Kristen Stewart, Director Address 'Rileys' Unexpected Ending

Posted: 05 Nov 2010 03:33 AM PDT

'She's sort of opened her eyes a little bit,' Stewart says of her stripper character.
By Eric Ditzian

There is no fairy-tale ending in "Welcome to the Rileys," which opened in select cities last week. The story of a grieving couple (James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo) who take a teen stripper named Mallory (Kristen Stewart) under their wings and try to show her how to live a better life is not wrapped up in a neat little bow, as is often the case in Hollywood flicks. (Beware of "Welcome to the Rileys" spoilers below!)

At least, that's not how it ends in the cut that hit theaters last week. In that version, Mallory declines to return to the couple's home with them and instead takes off to keep stripping in a new city. Yet that wasn't the original ending, as MTV News learned at the red-carpet premiere earlier this month.

"The original ending was very different, and they all moved in with each other and started making grilled cheese sandwiches and started watching movies on the sofa," explained director Jake Scott. "That was something we decided to change because it felt inauthentic."

In a quest for authentic storytelling, Scott returned to his experiences with his own children and how he interacts with them while away on business. "We speak on the phone and you talk about nothing," he said. "The writer Ken Hixon and I discussed this, and Ken wrote this amazing scene at the end with them just talking on the phone. I was after authenticity and truth, and that seemed like the better way to go."

Stewart, too, adored the fact that "Rileys" didn't reach for an unrealistically happy ending, but settled for an authentic one that still hints at how Mallory is attempting to change for the better.

"That's definitely one thing I loved about the script," she told us. "It was so good, I didn't expect it to end like that. Not that any of us can be as presumptuous to think we know that we're doing something so real that we would know how things would work out. But it does seem far from realistic to think Mallory would suddenly change everything she is. What you do see is she's sort of opened her eyes a little bit and seen that she has the potential and capacity to not be alone."

Donald Glover Relives Awkward Prom Night On 'When I Was 17'

'Community' actor recalls father slipping him a condom in front of his date, on episode airing Saturday.

When Donald Glover was a teen, his chances of scoring some post-prom action were destroyed before he even got to the party — by his own father.

On the latest episode of "When I Was 17," which also features stories from Akon and Kerry Washington and premieres at 11 a.m. Saturday on MTV, Glover recalls how his dad's safe-sex message ruined his son's chances for actually getting laid.

"I did go to my prom when I was 17. I asked this girl out that I really liked, and it was more like she was taking me, because I didn't have a car," Glover recalls. "She came and picked me up in her car. We're about to go, and my dad grabs me, and he pulls out a condom and puts it in my pocket — in front of her."

Brittany, a pal of the NBC show "Community" actor, also remembers that night. "Donald's dad was cool, but he never had the 'birds and the bees' kind-of talk," she recounts. "He flat out handed him the condom in front of Donald and his date. How embarrassing!"

Glover says the gesture was awkward for both him and his date.

"She saw it, and she wasn't mortified as much as ... [felt] like, 'Why did that happen in front of me? Isn't that supposed to not happen in front of me?' " Glover says.

By handing his son a prophylactic — a well-meaning, if presumptuous move — the elder Glover instantly killed any mood that might have led to use of the condom.

"We got in the car, and you might as well have had an elephant in the backseat 'cause it was like this big thing unspoken," Glover remembers. "Then I was like, 'We're not gonna...,' she's like, 'No, we're not.'

"I was like... 'Why do I even have this?' "

"When I Was 17" — this week featuring Akon, Kerry Washington and Donald Glover — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.

'Due Date': The Reviews Are In!

Posted: 05 Nov 2010 02:29 AM PDT

Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr. are 'so off in their chemistry as to be bizarrely on,' critic says.
By Eric Ditzian

"I think pressure is always a good thing," director Todd Phillips told us a few months ago. "A lot of guys make a big hit movie on the size of 'The Hangover' and they get gun-shy. They wait a few years, ... and I wanted to do the opposite. I wanted to do something again and not worry if it was going to be as big as 'The Hangover' because 'The Hangover' was lightning in a bottle."

That, it was. "The Hangover" opened to $45 million in June 2009 on its way to becoming the #1 R-rated comedy of all time. And rather than drown in unrealistic expectations — or the swimming pool full of gold coins he could have built with the proceeds from "Hangover" — Phillips grabbed his old buddy Zach Galifianakis, threw Robert Downey Jr. into the mix, and came up with "Due Date."

The comedy, as observers might expect, won't do nearly the business "Hangover" did. But "Due Date" will end up with a hefty opening weekend — anything from a high-$20 million gross to a mid-$30 million one — marking a seriously impressive return to the big screen for Phillips.

Before heading to the theater this weekend, check out what critics are saying about "Due Date":

The Story

Downey plays Peter, a high-handed guy whose wife (Michelle Monaghan) is about to have a baby. He's headed home to Los Angeles after a business trip to Atlanta. But, as bad luck would have it, Peter collides with goony Ethan (Galifianakis). Disbelief must be suspended when Peter makes it through airport security in inadvertent possession of Ethan's marijuana (allegedly for his glaucoma). As Peter, Downey insists, 'I've never done drugs in my life,' a line that is all the funnier given Downey's past. Officials confiscate the drug, Peter is allowed to board the flight. But after an onboard ruckus involving Ethan's protruding hairy belly, he and Ethan are tossed off and onto the no-fly list. Peter now must make the cross-country trip by car to arrive in time to see his baby born. But thanks to more contrived shenanigans, he has no credit card to rent a car. Ethan, however, manages to get a rental car, and the next thing you know, the two are sharing the front seat." — Claudia Puig, USA Today

The Performances

"Playing to type as Ethan, Galifianakis, the ginger-bearded bear of a boy who shot to fame as the odd-duck brother of the bride in 'The Hangover,' is funny not because he is boorish but because he is immune to embarrassment. Playing against type as Peter, arbiter of appropriateness, Downey is funny because in spite of his character's carefully managed rage, he loses control at the most inappropriate times." — Carrie Rickey, The Philadelphia Inquirer

The Laughs

"Not all the jokes work, but when they do, it's due to the perfect comic timing and chemistry that keeps you invested in this odd couple. While many of the best gags may be given away by the commercials, there is more than enough other things to explore in their relationship with a surprising amount of warmth and heart that makes it feel like a far more mature effort on Phillips' part. Ultimately, 'Due Date' may not be nearly as clever as 'The Hangover' and its attempt to solve a 'night before' mystery, but it is a fairly satisfying film on its own merits, a fun experience that's more than just an endless stream of jokes." — Edward Douglas, ComingSoon.net

The Dissenters

"The basic problem is the script, which is credited to three writers plus the director — seldom a good sign. Never mind that it's a retread of 'Planes, Trains & Automobiles' minus the trains, and minus John Candy. Retreads can hold the road, but this one doesn't, despite some sporadically funny stuff. What, for example, are we to make of Ethan, confronted for the first time by the Grand Canyon, saying 'I could've sworn I read it was man-made'? Or mistaking Mexico for Texaco after getting himself and Peter high on cannabis clouds in the confines of their car? Jokes like these leave you yearning for less." — Joe Morgenstern, The Wall Street Journal

The Final Word

"The unexpected pairing of Galifianakis and Downey is a pleasure — they're an unlikely duo so off in their chemistry as to be bizarrely on. At this point in his singular career, Downey has shaped his disarming self-aware F-U stare to perfection, while Galifianakis has a knack for making his eyes simultaneously convey exasperating insensitivity and exasperating blamelessness. The two men seem to fascinate each other. But Atlanta to L.A. is a long drive, during which Phillips can't decide whether to go for the raunchy (lots of masturbation jokes) or the mushy (Ethan really loved his simple old dad, but Peter has more conflicting emotions about his). And so by the time the pair admire the Grand Canyon (time for major mush) and then arrive at the hospital where Wifey is in labor (time for mush plus jokes), 'Due Date' has lost its way, relying on its leading men to lead by charisma alone, even though their characters have nowhere interesting to go besides the happily-ever-after of dull, responsible male maturity." — Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly

Miley Cyrus Promises 'Angels And Demons' For 2010 EMA Performance

Miley gets lacey and symbolic for MTV's Europe Music Awards this Sunday.
By James Montgomery

MADRIDMiley Cyrus blew in to Spain's capital city from LAX on Thursday night, got up Friday morning (November 5) to rehearse her performance at the 2010 Europe Music Awards, then hopped back on a jet bound for Germany (she had a previous engagement, after all). Of course, she'll be back on Sunday for the big show — as if you didn't know already, she's a pretty busy girl.

But after she wrapped rehearsals — and before she got back on her plane — MTV News's special EMA correspondent Gabe Saporta caught up with Miley for a few minutes backstage at Madrid's Caja Magica, where she revealed a few details about her super-secret EMA performance.

From the sound of things, it's going to be a rather epic, eye-catching thing. And quite possibly based on the work of "Da Vinci Code" author Dan Brown.

"We actually came up with this concept because I wanted it to kinda be 'Angels and Demons,' but it's not a Tom Hanks reference," Cyrus said (referring to the star of both of Brown's movie adaptations). "It's [about the idea] that during this world, you're always going to have temptation; basically that's kind of the whole vibe."

Cyrus added that her performance will feature some elaborate costuming, some chiropractically challenging dance moves and, of course, some symbolism. Oh, and if the whole thing seems too deep for you, that's probably because you're a dude.

"It's a little more Victorian," she explained. "There's a lot of lace. The girls are dressed all in white, and the guys are in black. ... The girls will know what I'm talking about."

The 2010 EMAs will air on MTV2 on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET, and an edited, performance-heavy version will be broadcast Friday, November 12, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.

Demi Lovato Is 'Getting Better' In Treatment, Sources Say

According to reports, Lovato was visited by fellow Disney star Selena Gomez and is 'getting help' and 'getting better.'
By Jocelyn Vena

Late Monday night, news broke that Demi Lovato would be leaving the Jonas Brothers' tour to seek treatment for some personal issues. And in the days since, she's gotten lots of support from Disney and some fellow Disney stars.

Now comes word that Lovato is "doing great" while in treatment, where she was reportedly visited by Selena Gomez.

A source told E! Online that the singer/actress is isolated at an unnamed treatment facility and it's still unknown when Lovato might leave that facility, since "it depends on the doctor's advice and how well Demi progresses."

"She is getting help and is on her way to getting better," the source told the website. "Demi is not receiving care at one of the Hollywood-type centers. She is at a real facility that specializes in helping adolescent and adult women with the types of issues she has battled throughout her life. Details about her care are going to remain private."

Meanwhile, her estranged father, Patrick Lovato, spoke to Usmagazine.com about his daughter saying, "I don't know how long it's going to take. It doesn't matter — as long as it's positive. The cutting thing is full of bologna. Demi would never injure herself. She's not into drugs or alcohol."

More details are also emerging about the altercation that Lovato reportedly got into right before she entered treatment. Lovato may have gotten into a fight with a dancer Alex Welch, who goes by the nickname "BGirl Shorty," People.com reports. Welch was a member of the Beat Freaks, who competed on MTV's "America's Best Dance Crew."

It seems that another one of Lovato's Disney pals, Cody Linley, is also reaching out to the singer; he released a video of his rendition of Bruno Mars' "Just the Way You Are," with a message for the "Sonny With a Chance" star. He wrote, "In our journey through life, we have obstacles to overcome. It is these experiences that shape you to be the person you are. I love you just the way you are. Love, Cody," dedicating the song to Lovato.

Send your well-wishes to Demi Lovato in the comments.

2010 MTV EMAs By The Numbers: 1 Lady Gaga Designer, 600 Chickens

MADRID — Metrically speaking, the 2010 Europe Music Awards might not be the biggest production in the 16-year history of the show, but it's certainly the "boxiest."

That's because this year's EMAs will be broadcast live from Madrid's Caja Magica, a new clay-court tennis facility (and home to the city's legendary Real Madrid basketball team) which, literally translated, means "The Magic Box." Opened just last year, the Caja features multiple retractable roofs, wandering water features and seating for more than 12,000. And Sunday, when it'll play host to the EMAs, the stage also will be a box — a four-sided, rotating, multidimensional cube courtesy of British theater designer Es Devlin, who's worked with Lady Gaga, Kanye West and Muse.

The stage is entirely constructed of steel shipped from London, and rotates 360 degrees to reveal four distinct settings for the EMA performances, which will include B.o.B and Hayley Williams, Miley Cyrus and Ke$ha, to name a few. And, in the city itself, Linkin Park, Katy Perry and 30 Seconds to Mars will perform live from the Puerta de Alcala, a monument commemorated in 1778.

The show itself will feature eight costume changes by host Eva Longoria (including an outfit designed by Victoria Beckham), and more than 600 sets of eyelashes, 300 wigs, 300 shades of eye shadow and blush, and 100 sets of pre-painted nails, modeled by 97 dancers from 12 different countries.

And while all that is plenty big, the behind-the-scenes stats are equally eye-popping: Stars can luxuriate in 34 different dressing rooms, dine on special macrobiotic meals crafted by a team of international chefs or be waited on by a staff of first-class Lufthansa airline attendants.

Meanwhile, the crew — some 1,300 workers, technicians, talent wranglers and caterers — will communicate on more than 800 walkie talkies, backed by 1,200 batteries and 450 headsets. And they'll eat meals cooked by 30 chefs (who will go through some 600 chickens and a half-ton of beef every day) and pastries created by three Madrid bakeries and chug their way through 10,000 bottles of water (all of which will be recycled).

Oh, and in the days leading up to the show, more than 110 limousines and vans will move artists around the city of Madrid, and more than 100 buses will transport VIP guests and the media to and from the Caja.

Looking at all those numbers, maybe the 2010 EMAs is the biggest production in the show's history. We can't imagine anything bigger.

The 2010 EMAs will air on MTV2 on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET, and an edited, performance-heavy version will be broadcast Friday, November 12, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.

If anyone was born to play a superhero, it's Brad Pitt, thanks to his chiseled good looks and generally hunky demeanor. So, in his new flick, "Megamind," out Friday (November 5), Pitt suited up as Metro Man, archnemesis to the evil Megamind (voiced by Will Ferrell). Unfortunately for the mothers of the world who will get dragged to theaters this weekend, Pitt is only a hero in animation.

"Do you want to wear the costume, really?" he wondered to MTV News at the flick's New York premiere, where we caught up with all of the film's stars. "One of the dreams is not having to put on makeup or put on wardrobe. It's not a bad gig. It's pretty easy."

For years, Pitt has been the go-to Hollywood stud, and it's almost surprising that it took this long to get him in tights. And, he said he can't recall any other times he has been linked, even in rumors, to a superhero role.

So, why was "Megamind" the perfect way for him to stretch his superhero muscles?

"It's my kids; try and score some points with my kids," he said of his six children with Angelina Jolie. "You're a dad: Dads are square. But, also, this one's got Jeffrey Katzenberg behind it, and Will Ferrell's really big in our house, and Jonah Hill's the next coming. What more do you need?"

And, if his small army of children isn't impressed by his A-list movie career, what does impress the Jolie-Pitt crew? "It's bribery. It's candy. Really!" he explained, adding what works for him: "Just a little caress."

Would you like to see Brad as a superhero in a live-action flick? Give us your two cents below!

'True Blood' Star Ryan Kwanten Struggled With Aussie Accent In 'Red Hill'

Posted: 05 Nov 2010 01:37 AM PDT

'As ridiculous as it sounds, there was quite an adjustment period,' says the Australia native.
By Amy Wilkinson

American audiences familiar with Ryan Kwanten's work on the sexy vampire drama "True Blood" will see a different side of him in his latest project, the feature film "Red Hill." The movie, which hits theaters today, is a Western thriller set in rural Australia. And Kwanten is speaking with his natural Aussie accent — something that proved challenging for the 33-year-old actor.

"It was actually kind of bizarre because I had been working in the States for eight years, and I was so used to hearing the word, 'Action,' and jumping into a form of the American accent," he told MTV News (in his Aussie accent). "This was the first time in eight years I had done this particular voice [while working as an actor], and as ridiculous as it sounds, there was quite an adjustment period."

While he never accidentally slipped into Jason Stackhouse's Southern drawl while on the "Red Hill" set, his Yankee résumé didn't escape his costars' notice. "The crew called me Captain Hollywood for a while," he said with a chuckle.

Stepping back into his natural accent wasn't the only challenge Kwanten faced while portraying a country cop hunting an escaped convict. To get to the remote, 150-person hamlet where "Red Hill" was shot, the cast and crew had to embark on treacherous six-hour drives through the Australian countryside. "I may as well have been shooting in Antarctica because it was such a remote, one-horse town," Kwanten said.

But the rugged setting proved integral to the film's narrative. "I feel like the isolation and the huge mountain countryside was somewhat of a character," he said, "because as the film progressed, it added to that feeling of claustrophobia."
