Lloyd Banks Previews 'Where I'm At' With Eminem On 'RapFix Live'

On Thursday (November 11), when Lloyd Banks sat down with Sway for his second visit to "RapFix Live," he discussed his song with Eminem on Hunger for More 2, due November 22. There had actually been two songs featuring Eminem floating around online, including a snippet of "Where I'm At" and "Celebrity," featuring Akon.

"[People] heard two songs because one of them leaked out," Banks explained. "Em had a few records to play with. He had laid a verse down for 'Celebrity,' but ultimately we ended up going with the record 'Where I'm At.' "

Banks allowed Sway to cue up a snippet of the song, and on it, we heard Em spit, "I'm moving on, don't worry about me/ 'Cause I'mma be just fine without ya, you'll see/ There ain't no one on this earth right now I'd much rather be/ 'cause goddamnit, I'm glad that I'm me/ If you could be where I'm at, you'd wanna be you too/ If you felt the way I feel, I bet you'd be in as good a mood as I'm in/ But you don't, 'cause you just feel like you."

"It was more of a 32-bar, 32-bar verse for each of us," Banks said. "We had a little more open space to be creative. I spoke with him for a minute, maybe a half-hour, just about the record, on how I was gonna approach it. It was kind of like ... he just brought me through what his verse was. He played me it over the phone, so he didn't leave me out in the blind."

This is not the first time Em and Banks have collaborated. They've actually been working together since the entire Shady/G-Unit/Aftermath roster was warring with Ray Benzino in the early aughts.

"I worked with Em numerous times, but every time, it just feels like the first time," Banks said. "Because he doesn't sound the same. Every time he steps it up a notch higher."

'Harry Potter' Star Tom Felton Teases 'Epic' 'Deathly Hallows' Ending

'The bits that we did do of the good vs. evil army were just fantastic,' he tells MTV News of 'Part 2.'

Despite Pottermania currently focused on the surefire blockbuster that is "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1," there are plenty of juicy details to be unveiled next July when "Deathly Hallows - Part 2" is released. So when MTV News caught up with Tom Felton recently over tea, we asked him to tease "Part 2" — specifically that final climactic battle scene at Hogwarts.

"That was the bit that we were all looking forward to, the huge battle of it all," Felton said. "But I've seen even less of that, so I was told it was going to be [full of] all sorts of creatures that weren't there on the day [of filming]. But overall ... the bits that we did do of the good vs. evil army were just fantastic. I was lucky enough to see some of the playback shots, and it just looked epic, so I'm hugely excited about that as well."

But does he know how it all ends for his character, Draco Malfoy?

"I hate to be more cryptic, but it's harder for me to say, because they actually shot ... not different versions, but a way in which it could be played either way, so the last thing I want to do is start second-guessing what [director] David Yates is up to because he knows exactly what he's doing, so I'm intrigued to see exactly how Draco sort of ... how he exits the whole battle scene as well."

Cryptic answer? Maybe, but also intriguing! Fans of the books know exactly how Malfoy exits the story, but if Yates filmed variations on the book version for the film, it could make for pleasant surprises.

Speaking of which, we mentioned to Felton that it would be fun for Harry and Draco to somehow become friends at the very end, which apparently Felton had already pitched!

"Actually, when we shot the final scene on the platform, I did mention, I thought a hug and a kiss would be nice," Felton said with a smirk. "David denied me that."

'Unstoppable' Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

Posted: 12 Nov 2010 03:52 AM PST

MTV News has been tracking this runaway-train movie from the start.
By Eric Ditzian

Denzel Washington and Chris Pine in "Unstoppable"
Photo: 20th Century Fox

You could say the story of "Unstoppable" begins in 1995, even before the true events that inspired this action flick about a runaway train. It was 15 years ago that Denzel Washington and director Tony Scott first hooked up for a cinematic collaboration, delivering the first-rate thriller "Crimson Tide."

Their creative partnership became, in the words of Washington, a "good marriage," leading to three more pictures ("Man on Fire," "Déjà Vu" and "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3") and a fifth pairing that was announced even before "Pelham" hit theaters.

"We work well together," Denzel explained. "We trust each other. He knows how to put 'em together. He knows how to make hits."

It's looking like the duo might have another hit on their hands in "Unstoppable." The film, loosely based on the 2001 story of a runaway train carrying far too many toxic chemicals, follows Washington and Chris Pine as they attempt to chase down a train and save a Pennsylvania town from an environmental disaster. MTV News has been chasing the project for a year and a half and has gathered everything together here: our "Unstoppable" cheat sheet.

Pulling out of the Station
Months before "Pelham" opened, news broke that Washington and Tony Scott would be reuniting for "Unstoppable" — making it two train-focused action movies in a row for the pair. Washington was set to play a grizzled engineer who teams up with a young conductor to save the day.

So who would play the conductor? MTV News broke the story in June at the Movie Awards. "I'm going to shoot a movie in the fall called 'Unstoppable' — me and Tony Scott — and Chris Pine's going to do it with us," Washington told us backstage at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. "I hope I'm not speaking out of line. I think they made a deal with him, and I'm supposed to meet him next week."

Chugging Forward
By July, though, "Unstoppable" seemed to have been derailed. Reports suggested Fox had balked at the film's ballooning budget and asked Washington to take a pay cut. He reportedly declined and ditched the project. Yet a week later, Washington was officially back in the mix, and filming began in August with Rosario Dawson coming along for the ride.

Get Outta the Way!
The trailer pulled into the Internet station a year later: big, fast, loud and, seemingly, a whole lot of fun. Then, in September, we snagged an exclusive look at Pine in character.

"The fear factor is up there," Washington told us of the shoot. "It's part of the job. You know they need the shots. You know what you're signing up for. You try to do as little as possible. They make it as safe for you as they can and you go for it."

"For me, the inspiring thing was to work with Denzel and Tony," Pine said. "And it just happened to be on a movie called 'Unstoppable.' If you really want to know why I did it, it was to work with two guys I'd watched and respected for years."

Check out everything we've got on "Unstoppable."

Swedish House Mafia Are 'Jersey Shore' Fans

'They seem to have values,' Axwell tells MTV News about reality stars.
By Adam Stewart

It should come as no surprise that the cast of "Jersey Shore" has made their passion for all things dance music known to their fans. From Snooki's tweets touting Kaskade as her favorite DJ to Pauly D's worship of David Guetta, the reality stars tend to know their stuff.

Little do they know that some of the biggest names in the dance-music community are actually fans of theirs too. In a recent interview with Swedish House Mafia here in New York, it became apparent that the fandom of MTV's smash series has crossed oceans, as Swedes Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso shared a good laugh and some sincere words about the Garden State's most well-known "family."

"I like them. I think they're funny!" Axwell told MTV News.

"They're really funny. I like them too!" Ingrosso added, laughing.

"I saw something from the new season: That guy Situation called to order some pizza in Miami, and they asked for the name. He said, 'Situation,' and the [pizza] guy is like, 'Sorry, what?' and he says, 'Situation!' and [the pizza guy] just hangs up. It was really funny!"

Interestingly, it's not the crazy things the "Jersey Shore" gang does or the circumstances they find themselves in that sparks Axwell's interest; it's the softer side of the household shenanigans.

"That's one thing that I actually notice: They seem to have values," Axwell said of the tanned and toned troupe. "There was this guy [Ronnie] together with another girl there [Sammi], and he was cheating on her, and one of the other guys [Situation] was really angry with him, and that says something about values."

OK, so maybe Axwell slightly misinterpreted that event (which was more like one of the Situation's attempts to pull a steal on his housemate). But nevertheless, the identity of the group as a family is truly recognized, even when the intentions of certain members of the Jersey eight might be ever-so-slightly skewed.

Do you agree that the "Jersey Shore" roomies have "values"? Let us know in the comments!

Ryan Leslie Calls Stolen Laptop 'An Opportunity To Regroup'

Singer/producer also gives details on Less Is More during Lloyd Banks' 'RapFix Live' interview.

Even though Ryan Leslie's computer, which housed many of his creative projects, was recently swiped, the producer/singer remains undaunted as he records his upcoming album.

The "Diamond Girl" crooner Skyped into Lloyd Banks' "RapFix Live" sit-down Thursday (November 11) live from Munich and caught up with MTV News' Sway and the G-Unit soldier, whom he worked with on Banks' Hunger for More 2 cut "So Forgetful." He also chopped it up about the hefty reward he's ready to dole out to whoever can recover his laptop.

"I lost my computer out here in Germany. I actually had my whole new album on there, which I had been working on in secret, and it got stolen. So right now I got a million-dollar reward for anybody that can return my intellectual property to me," Leslie explained.

Leslie was crafting material for Less Is More, an album he said is a creative departure from his previous releases, Transition and his self-titled debut.

"I think this collaboration that I just did with Banks is a real good indicator that I'm gonna be doing things that people may not expect from me if you listen to just the other two albums," he hinted. "I think right now hip-hop, and music in general, is in just a great collaborative space, and so I was putting together a bunch of really dope soundscapes that I could collaborate with my favorite artists on."

Leslie said he was inspired to work with Banks after seeing the MC team up with another R&B crooner.

"I've always been a fan of Banks, and I'm good friends with Dre McKenzie, who's the A&R over there [at G-Unit]," he said. "When I actually saw the behind-the-scenes of Banks and Lloyd [the singer], I reached out and said, 'Man, I really want to be a part of this project.' "

After Leslie invited the "Beamer, Benz or Bentley" spitter to return the favor and appear on his forthcoming effort, the singer rattled off the list of names who may guest on the record.

"I've been talking to Trey Songz, been talking to Pharrell ... been working with Kanye. I've done some work with Keri Hilson," he said.

While Leslie definitely wants his stolen laptop back, he maintained that he's pushing forward with his music and plans to salvage any of the A-level work he's put in so far.

"I think right now it's really just an opportunity for me to just regroup. Anything that I don't remember, maybe it shouldn't have been on that album, and anything that I do remember, we going to re-record it," he said.

Leslie added that he'll craft the album and globe-trot simultaneously, kicking off his traveling recording session in the City of Light.

"I think I'm actually gonna be recording around the world," he said. "Probably the first stop will be Paris, so Banks, if you want to come, spend a couple weeks out in Paris, a couple days, I'll be out there for a couple weeks, re-recording everything, getting some inspiration, and look for the album top of the year."

Lloyd Banks Insists Kanye West/ 50 Cent Collabo Is 'Gonna Happen'

Posted: 11 Nov 2010 06:54 AM PST

G-Unit MC tells 'RapFix Live' that the duo never had 'any kind of tension in a personal way.'
By Paul Cantor, with reporting by Sway Calloway

By now, it's no secret that Kanye West is a big fan of Lloyd Banks and vice versa. Their mutual admiration might be odd, considering that G-Unit General 50 Cent and 'Ye were embroiled in a rivalry of sorts back in 2007, when their respective LPs, Graduation and Curtis went head-to-head in a release-date showdown. Fif has continued to throw jabs at Kanye over the years, calling his music "safe."

Still, that hasn't stopped the two from working together on 50's upcoming LP. Earlier Thursday (November 11), when Lloyd Banks chopped it up with Sway on "RapFix Live," he said he hadn't heard any new music but confirmed the two are definitely collaborating.

"I know that's gonna happen," he said. "It's sweeter when there's something to wait for. If it happens immediately, there's nothing to wait for. Better late than never."

Banks claimed that the reason 50 is able to work with Kanye now is because their beef was never that deep in the first place.

"If you notice, like, 50 says it all the time: They never would have been able to stand and do the Rolling Stone cover and things like that if there were any kind of tension in a personal way," he said. "This is a competitive sport. It's a vocal sport. So things are documented and you hold onto it. You gotta ask yourself: What did they say before the hype happened? As we grow older, man, you feel kinda stupid sitting next to somebody, you end up in the same venue five years later, knowing that you dissed me, I dissed you because we all had the rapper thing going on."

To hear Banks tell it, one of the reasons why he hasn't heard 50's work with Kanye thus far is because the G-Unit members typically work on their respective LPs separately then play them for each other when they're nearing completion.

"All three albums [50's] never really been there through the recording process," he said. "We're excited to hear it when it's done. I love when 50 comes to my house and he can play me 14 records straight. Then I get a chance to be a fan at the same time. 50's the same way. He respects what I do to the point where he'll just come in at the tail end of the album, where I might have 14 songs done and I'll play it for him, and he can hear it mixed down and mastered and say, 'I like this one.' "

Banks said 50 has the ability to identify which songs of his will be the best ones to release as singles.

"He's always picked the sweet spot, like, 'That's my joint,' " he said. "When I brought him 'Beamer Benz or Bentley,' it was already mixed and mastered. I wanted him to hear it like that. You know what he said? 'Push the button. Get on the phone with iTunes, let's get it linked up, push the button tomorrow.' He financed the situation all the way through."

Russell Brand Describes Married Life With Katy Perry

'It's just a normal marriage,' Brand says in first post-wedding sit-down.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

According to Russell Brand, his new wife, Katy Perry, wears the pants in the marriage.

In his first interview since their October nuptials, the comic said on England's "Loose Women" show Thursday (November 11), according to Us Weekly, that being married to the superstar "Firework" singer is just like any other union and recalled a moment when Perry vetoed one of her hubby's sartorial choices.

"It's just a normal marriage," Brand insisted. "The other day, I put a shirt on, and she went ... 'You're wearing that shirt, are you?' I thought, 'That's actually happening?' That's a thing off a sitcom. That happened in my actual life. I wasn't allowed to wear it. If she says don't wear that shirt, I don't wear it."

Despite reports of a lavish ceremony set against the backdrop of a sprawling wildlife sanctuary in Northern India, Brand maintained that the couple kicked off their ordinary marriage with equally run-of-the-mill nuptials.

"It was just normal," Brand said. "Everyone gets all worked up about showbiz and celebrity."

Even though he shrugged off ideas that their pairing is different from any other couple, Brand still had plenty to gush about when it comes to his new bride.

"All of us, really, have a deep yearning within us for love," Brand said. "I think eventually you find a spiritual and emotional connection with someone, and I think it unifies with everyone. I think if you love one person, it makes you love everyone. That's how I feel. Katy gives me a lot to think about. I like it."

For her part, Perry has recently said she didn't mind all the hoopla and speculation over their wedding.

"I actually was too busy getting married [to notice]," Perry told MTV News on the 2010 MTV EMA red carpet. "I don't mind [that] my wedding has turned into kind of a myth. It's kind of cool. We kept it kind of private, so when we heard some of the things that were going around, we were like, 'Ah, that's hilarious.' "

J. Cole, Drake Give It To The Ladies 'In The Morning'

Cole forced to tweet link to his sultry Friday Night Lights mixtape offering after fans overwhelm his site.
By Hillary Crosley

To say the union of J. Cole and Drake is for the ladies would be a gross understatement. Cole released "In the Morning" via his website DreamVillan on Thursday (November 11), and immediately got such an enormous response from fans that he tweeted the direct download link himself.

"I know y'all gonna shut my site down ... so here's the direct [link]," he tweeted. "J. Cole and @drakkardnoir epic."

Produced by L&X Music, the sultry song opens with a soft piano sample, reminiscent of Luther Vandross' "Superstar/ Until You Come Back to Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do)." The North Carolina MC begins the cut rhyming, "Baby, you summertime fine/ I'll let you get on top/ I'll be the underline, I'm/ Tryna get beside you/ Like the number nine, dime."

Later, rapper/singer Drake joins the cut in a low baritone, spitting, "Baby, you wintertime cold/ The night is still young/ Drink that dinner wine slow/ I'm tryna make those goosebumps on your inner thighs grow/ I'll let you beat me there as far as finish lines go."

"In the Morning" is the first duet from the two MCs, whom many in hip-hop compare because of their success stories. Where Drake was bolstered by his affiliation with Young Money/ Cash Money captain Lil Wayne, Cole is backed by his Roc Nation label head, Jay-Z.

MTV News recently spoke to Drake about the collaboration with Cole.

"It's called 'In the Morning.' It's like a record for the girls," Drake told us in Las Vegas at the final stop of his Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour. "Me and him will probably have many opportunities to rap, and try and out-rap each other," he added. "But it's not about entertaining the 'who's better?' debate that I'm sure everybody else is engaged in."

Cole himself spoke about the ongoing comparisons, but he didn't discuss who was more talented. Instead he weighed in on who stands as his generation's heir apparent, referencing an interview that Drake had given Complex magazine, in which he compared the North Carolina native to Nas, while claiming he might be the new Jay-Z.

"You can't call things like that, that early," Cole told MTV News in response in April.

"You can't say I'm Nas because, look, Nas was in the game for 16 years. What if I'm not here next year? What if you're not here next year? I don't think you can say stuff like that this early, but I understand what people are saying. At [Drake's] status right now, he's the most talked-about guy in the game. The Nas comparison is like, 'He gets a little bit beyond the surface,' but I feel like when it comes to those comparisons, it's way too early. And you never know, 10 years from now, I could be Jay."

"In the Morning" is included on J. Cole's Friday Night Lights mixtape, which drops on Friday.

Justin Bieber already showed fans his fledgling MC skills as Shawty Mane. Now the Biebs may be donning his rap cap again, according to Lil Twist. The Young Money rapper says he's working on a mixtape with the pop star.

"It's in the works," Twist told Neon Limelight. "We got a few records done, and every time we talk, we actually talk about this mixtape."

So what will fans find on the mixtape?

"We recently did 'Billionaire' by Travis McCoy and Bruno Mars," Twist explained. "We did that over with our own words, like a remix. That's how we're gonna do the majority of the mixtape, with other people's records and just me freestyling over it. And Justin's a rapper now, so he's gonna be goin' in."

Bieber has said he's open to playing Shawty Mane again. "I thought it was fun, I like rapping," Bieber recently told MTV News. "Maybe in the future, Shawty Mane will come back.

The singer also recalled how he came up with the name for his MC alter ego. "I don't know, me and my friends were just messing around and they were like, 'Shawty Mane,' and I was like, 'Yeah, that'll be my nickname.' Shawty Mane is just like a funny character. You know, Justin Bieber is not a rapper, and it would just be lame if I came out rapping. It's lame anyway because I'm like a pop singer, but I thought it was funny, I just did it as a joke. It wasn't like anything serious."

Kanye West Interview Airs On 'Today'

Host Matt Lauer defends practice of airing VMA tape that upset Kanye on Tuesday.

After a day of speculation about the interview that sent Kanye West into a full-on Twitter rant, on Thursday morning (November 11), the "Today" show aired Matt Lauer's sit-down with the MC. After the interview, Lauer defended the show's practices that so upset Kanye on Tuesday.

During their conversation, Lauer and West got into a conversation about former president George W. Bush's comment that West's outburst during a telethon benefiting the victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 ("George Bush doesn't care about black people!") was the low point of his presidency. West told Lauer that he empathized with Bush because he too was called a racist after interrupting Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

While West was responding, "Today" played a clip of the VMA incident. "It was so funny to me that it could be a race thing because what I was expressing was my frustration of years and years of seeing — how am I supposed to talk with this running under?" West said, referring to the VMA clip. Lauer asked that the audio be turned off, so West wouldn't be distracted, but the rapper was clearly put off by the practice. "Please don't let that happen again," West said to somebody off camera.

Earlier, when producers replayed the footage of the Katrina telethon, Kanye said, "I didn't need you guys to prompt my emotions. I don't need all the jazz."

Following the interview, West sent out a series of angry tweets about it. "While I was trying to give the interview they started playing the 'MTV' under me with audio!!!!!!!" West wrote. "I don't mess with Matt Lauer or the Today Show ... and that's a very nice way for me to put it! ... HE TRIED TO FORCE MY ANSWERS. IT WAS VERY BRUTAL AND I CAME THERE WITH ONLY POSITIVE INTENT ... I feel very alone very used very tortured very forced very misunderstood very hollow very very misused ... I don't trust anyone but myself! Everyone has an agenda. I don't do press anymore. I can't be everything to everybody anymore ... I can't be everybody's hero and villain savior and sinner Christian and anti Christ! ... I can't take anymore advice!!! I create, I'm creative, I have a good heart, everyone will see and understand one day."

Following the interview, Lauer spoke to views about the running of the VMA tape. "During an interview, when somebody references a place or an event, we run the tape," Lauer said. "There was nothing inappropriate about it. We do it all the time."

West is scheduled to be back on "Today" for a live performance on November 26, the day after he is scheduled to perform during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

After seeing the interview, do you think Kanye was right to be upset? Sound off in the comments.

Angelina Recalls Pre-'Jersey Shore' Piercing On 'When I Was 17'

'My body rejected the body piercing,' she says on new episode, airing Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

When former "Jersey Shore" castmember Angelina Pivarnick was a teen, she was flouting her mom's authority. But unfortunately for the Staten Island native, her youthful rebellion resulted in a botched body-piercing episode.

"I went to the city, behind my mom's back, and got my belly button pierced," Angelina admits in the upcoming episode of "When I Was 17," which also features Nikki Blonsky and Nigel Barker.

"Angelina thought it was a smart idea 'cause she thought that she could get away with it," her sister Amanda explains.

Angelina says the piercing went south when she insisted on getting a special type of navel jewelry instead of the recommended starter bauble.

"Usually when you get your belly button pierced, you're supposed to get the hoop and you're supposed to heal around it. I basically got the gem right away — you're not supposed to do that," Angelina concedes.

The sketchy circumstances under which she got the body ornament didn't help things either.

"So some guy was piercing me and I was just like, 'I don't even trust this guy right now.' [But] I let him do it anyway," she says. "Finally, when he went to do it, I felt my whole body just get really, really, really hot and I was sweating and then I started to like ... almost faint on the floor because the pain was so bad."

Angelina's friend Jeanine remembers her pal agonizing over the pain. "She said the pain was unbearable. It was like she thought she was giving birth outside of her belly button," she says.

"I got on the train to go back home, and my stomach was killing me, and I said to my friends, 'I don't know if I could deal with this,' " Angelina recalls. "Sure enough, my body rejected the body piercing."

Angelina wasn't playing either, as her body literally chucked the piercing out of her navel.

"So, I was in the bathroom, I was doing my makeup, and all of a sudden I heard something fall on the floor," she says. "So I look on the floor, and it's my belly-button ring with the ball attached on top of it. It ripped out of my skin."

"When I Was 17" — this week featuring Angelina, Nikki Blonsky and Nigel Barker — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV

The claim involves a September 8 incident at an Atlanta recording studio in which Gresham says he was held hostage for 12 hours and beaten by Tip's associates over a missing necklace.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Gresham claims in papers filed Monday in Fulton County State Court that although T.I. (born Clifford Harris) was not present during the assault at Echo Studios — a facility owned by the rapper — Tip was allegedly sent e-mails, texts and videos as it was happening and thus is responsible for the attack.

Along with T.I., the suit names a number of his associates and Grand Hustle team members, including rapper Jonathan "Spodee" Carle, Terrance "Cap" Beasley, Nathaniel "Mac Boney" Josey, Michael "Mike Bigga" Render and Cortez "C-Rod" Thomas, a convicted felon who was in the car in Los Angeles with T.I. on September 1 when the rapper was arrested on drug charges that sent him back to jail this month.

The suit claims that Render, formerly known by the stage name Killer Mike, was unable to find his gold diamond-encrusted chain and medallion in the studio. While the crew searched for it, they allegedly held Gresham captive for 12 hours, threatening and interrogating him about the jewelry.

It also claims that while Render sent out text messages offering a "1k reward for information regarding the item," Josey sent texts and e-mails to T.I. updating him on the situation at Echo Studios. The necklace and medallion were eventually found hidden in the ceiling and Carle suspected that Gresham had told Render that Carle had stolen it.

"Spodee became upset and disturbed," the lawsuit alleges, and moments later, Carle is said to have pulled out a gun and threatened to kill Gresham. The suit then says that Beasley persuaded Carle to beat up Gresham instead. Beasley and Josey then allegedly pushed Gresham down a flight of stairs and Carle assaulted him, knocking out two teeth.

According to the lawsuit, Echo studio manager Thomas used his cell phone to record the attack and forward the video to T.I., who, the suit alleges, "did nothing to stop or prevent the assault."

A spokesperson for Tip had no comment when reached by MTV News about the suit. Just three weeks after the alleged incident, T.I. was ordered to return to prison for 11 months for violating his probation from a 2007 federal gun case in light of the drug arrest in Los Angeles.

Rosario Dawson Wanted 'Unstoppable' Character To Be 'Composed'

'Not just ... a bitchy aggressive woman,' she says of her approach to playing a female rail manager in the thriller.

Like her "Unstoppable" co-stars Denzel Washington and Chris Pine, Rosario Dawson put in serious time and research to prepare for her role in the Tony Scott thriller about a runaway train. Dawson says she had the opportunity to meet with a real-life inspiration for her character: a female rail-yard manager.

"We had a great opportunity, we found this amazing woman, Mary Alexander," Dawson recently told MTV News. Dawson said she got to pick Alexander's brain, and peppered her with questions about proper rail-yard vernacular, protocol and technical terminology.

In the film, opening Friday, Dawson plays Connie, a headstrong rail-yard manager who, along with Pine and Washington's characters, goes up against her corporate bosses in an attempt to stop a train loaded with explosive chemicals from careening into a small town.

"To do that and know it was a woman who went through it, I was like, 'How did you work your way up? What did that feel like?' " she recalled asking Alexander. "You get those obvious clichéd things about a woman working in a men's industry, but you also get this [explanation]: 'Listen, this is a high-stakes situation, this doesn't happen every day but when it does, you want capable people to be there.'

"To be someone composed and a leader in that, that's what I wanted Connie to be," Dawson added. "Not just a cool, spunky woman or a bitchy aggressive woman, but just the right person for the job."

Robyn Says 'Indestructible' Video Shows 'What Sex Really Is'

'Sex is everywhere all the time, but very rarely is it made out to be something real,' Swedish pop sensation tells MTV News.

What did you do in 2010? If you're Robyn, you released three albums of pitch-perfect robo-pop, performed at the MTV Video Music Awards, toured relentlessly, provided the soundtrack to a key "hate sex" scene on "Gossip Girl" and established yourself as your favorite pop star's favorite pop star.

And that's just here in the States.

Yeah, it's been a pretty big year for the Swedish pop sensation, and on November 22, she'll cap it off by releasing the third and final installment of her Body Talk trilogy. She's already dropped the first single from that album, a spindly, pulsating bit of anthemic electro called "Indestructible," complete with a clothing-optional video that's raising eyebrows (and temperatures) worldwide. Though, to hear Robyn talk about it, there's nothing really all that shocking about the clip ... except maybe for its honesty.

"We just wanted to make a video about sex, but in a way that wasn't so clichéd," she told MTV News on Thursday (November 11). "I think 'Indestructible' is a song that talks about what happens when you meet new people and fall in love, and how that can be scary and fun at the same time. And [the video] is made to give you a picture of what sex really is, which I think is something that's very hard to do, because sex is everywhere all the time, but very rarely is it made out to be something real."

Of course, Robyn herself doesn't get in on the action, mostly because she spends the entire video encased in what could best be described as a "tube dress," a series of clear plastic pipes wrapped around her entire body that periodically fill with colored fluids. The dress was designed by Lucy McRae, an Australian artist who makes "body architecture," and it required a whole lot of complex machinery to function and, yes, was pretty symbolic too. (McRae designed the outfits Robyn wore on all three Body Talk covers.)

"It's a very complicated machine that she had to build to make these tubes to work, and they had to do it quickly, because we didn't really get the budget together until a couple of weeks before," Robyn laughed. "So the machine is actually powered by drills. It looked like 'MacGyver' on the set. ... It's very much about, like, giving almost a physical experience of what it feels like to be on a dance floor or fall in love, whether it's blood or endorphins or other body fluids."

But 2010 wasn't all about pushing boundaries and making grand gestures: One of Robyn's biggest moments this year occurred earlier this month, when she made a cameo on "Gossip Girl." (Her song "Dancing on My Own" was also used to score a particularly heated sex session between Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass.) It was neither edgy nor symbolic, but Robyn didn't seem to mind — she was too busy having fun.

"People were really nice to us!" she laughed. "It was really interesting to see what a real American soap opera looks like up close as a European person, it's a little exotic. It's classic, in a weird way."

What do you think of Robyn's new "Indestructible" video? Is it provocative? Too racy? Tell us in the comments!

On Wednesday evening, Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow proved her vocal chops by pulling off her first live singing performance at the 44th annual CMA Awards. Although her singing skills had remained largely under wraps until the awards show, Paltrow scored rave reviews from critics and country superstars alike for her rendition of "Country Strong," which is also the title of her upcoming flick.

It turns out that Paltrow had some superstar assistance for her CMA debut. Before she hit the stage, she opened up to "Access Hollywood" about reaching out to her celebrity pals while prepping for her performance.

"I kind of asked my girl singer friends [for advice]," she said. "I asked Faith [Hill] a lot of questions ... and Beyoncé actually too."

Gwyneth added that she took some cues from B's fierce stage presence. "I studied Beyoncé a lot and her concerts for her kind of confidence," she said, adding, "And I'm lucky that I know some singers in real life."

The superstar study sessions paid off, as Paltrow won over music experts and country stars with her bold, clear vocals and ease with the guitar.

"Strumming an acoustic guitar, looking a little nervous but singing the movie's title song in an expressive, surging tone, she didn't really need the assistance of the wonderful Vince Gill, there to give a polite country-industry imprimatur to Paltrow's efforts," Entertainment Weekly's Ken Tucker wrote.

"She sounded really country, I think. She seems very genuine," CMA winner Miranda Lambert told USA Today.

What did you think of Gwyneth Paltrow's CMA performance? Let us know in the comments!

Black Eyed Peas Mine The '80s For <i>The Beginning</i>

'The '80s was very unique — it launched humanity into hyper mode,' will.i.am tells SPIN about new album's sound.

With their feel-good party anthems, the Black Eyed Peas have never had a problem bridging the generation gap. And on their upcoming album, The Beginning, the group infuses their modern sound with classic '80s songs.

In the latest issue of SPIN, frontman will.i.am says that the album, due out on November 30, was recorded in hotel rooms around the world during BEP's last world tour.

"Our last record was just, 'Yo! We're making crazy beats — party, party, party!' " will.i.am told the magazine. "This one is more inspired by electro and dance music — it's the only thing alive at the moment. There are some songs where we're going all the way, but we mix it up. Some songs are 120 BPM and others are like 320."

The bandmates revealed that they're big fans of '80s music and pop culture and wanted to connect past and present on this LP.

"The '80s was very unique — it launched humanity into hyper mode," will.i.am said. "From then to now, we've transcended to a totally different culture, like, 'What?' Now we have high-definition, 3-D animation whereas the beginning was Tetris and Space Invaders. How did Space Invaders become Madden NFL? That's what we're doing — we're connecting the pixels."

Fans have already heard a taste of what's to come on The Beginning from lead single "The Time," which samples the "Dirty Dancing" theme song "(I've Had) the Time of My Life."

The BEP leader recalled cutting "The Time" in a hotel room. "We had no speakers so I had to hijack the hotel television set and plug my computer into it," he said. "I needed a new beat because I had to go DJ that night."

SPIN got the chance to preview some of the highlights of The Beginning, including "Do It Like This," which reportedly combines "two club-ready jams into one five-minute track." The song was made from leftover beats from will and Usher's "OMG" sessions.

The 12-song set also includes "XOXOXO," on which the magazine says will woos a lady via hilarious text message lines, and another track titled "Fashion Beats," which finds Fergie singing over disco/R&B band Chic's 1979 hit "My Forbidden Lover."

Which '80s classics do you hope to hear sampled on the new BEP album? Tell us in the comments!

Taio Cruz's latest single, "Higher," features pop sensation Kylie Minogue, but it wasn't planned that way. The track appears on the international version of his club-banging Rokstarr album, and when MTV News caught up with Cruz, he spoke to us about how the song came about.

"Well I actually wrote — as a lot of the songs that I write for other people end up being on my album — I wrote 'Higher' for [Minogue] and she, I think, she had another song on the album called 'Higher' or some other reason why it didn't go onto her record," the "Dynamite" singer explained on Wednesday at the opening of the Kenneth Cole Boutique at Santa Monica Place.

Of course, that left the song available for Cruz to claim and he decided to bring Kylie along for the ride. "But as things turn out, she's here now on 'Higher' as a duet and it's amazing," he added. "She's such a sweetheart and an amazing professional. She's just incredible."

The duo also recently wrapped up production on a video for the track. And while Cruz wouldn't say too much about what fans could expect, he teased that it would have "fast cars, hot girls — it's a Taio Cruz video," he joked. "We just shot the video in London, and I just saw a bit of it just now. I'm excited. You guys are going to enjoy that."

'Skyline' Star Eric Balfour Reveals Movie's 'Star Wars' Homage

Actor recalls doing his own stunts and Lando Calrissian impressions on small-budget set.
By Eric Ditzian

Give credit to the folks behind "Skyline." They've managed to keep their story under wraps; no easy feat in an age of 24-hour, Web-enabled fanboy fixation. Yes, we know aliens invade Los Angeles. Yes, we know they wreak some serious CG-destruction on the city and its denizens. But what exactly are those tentacled baddies doing on Earth?

Don't expect to find out before the flick hits theaters this Friday, as it hasn't been screened for the media, and stars have been impressively tight-lipped about plot details. But know this: Things do not end well for the citizens of L.A.

"This is not a Disney movie," star Eric Balfour told us when he stopped by the MTV Newsroom. "There is no happy ending."

That's in contrast to the actual experience the cast and crew had filming the small-budget flick. Balfour and his pals shot the entire production in the apartment complex where directors Greg and Colin Strause live. There were no trailers. The actors would take naps on beds in the brothers' rooms, and yet they all had a blast during what Balfour termed a renegade shoot filled with improvisation between himself and co-star Donald Faison.

"We're not stick-by-the-script guys," Balfour said. "It's not easy for Donald to be serious. He's a funny dude. He'd vacillate between channeling Will Smith and ['Star Wars' badass] Lando Calrissian. At one point, he was doing Lando in a scene, but not very well, and I had to take him aside and do an impersonation of Lando for him. Mine was better."

While the film certainly seems to have a big-budget scope, the production was a fraction of the size of something out of the "Star Wars" franchise. And there were moments Balfour felt more than a little unsafe.

"There were points where we're being hung on these wires 50 feet above the roof of this building, being thrown over the edge of this building. I kept thinking one of those wires was gonna snap," Balfour said. "There was definitely stuff that we did that you wouldn't have gotten away with in a studio movie. They wouldn't have let you. It made it fun. You got to live this crazy dream of running and jumping and fighting aliens. How cool is that?"

Quite cool, if the reaction at Comic-Con this summer is any gauge. Footage had fanboys buzzing. Most of them, at least.

"You have a really open-minded side of that sci-fi fanboy crowd that is just excited and stoked because they've been given glimpses into how unique this movie is," Balfour said. "Then you have this very hard-to-please side of the fanboy crowd that's going, 'Is this "Independence Day 2" or "War of the Worlds 3"?' I understand some of their concerns. ... I'm pretty excited to have those guys see the movie more than anyone else. The fact is, it's not 'Independence Day' at all."

Kanye West's 'Today' Show Drama: Readers Weigh In

Posted: 10 Nov 2010 11:12 PM PST

'I think Kanye went there with good intention and was derailed,' MTV News reader comments.
By James Dinh

Just days before the release of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye West is making national headlines, but for reasons he probably isn't too happy with.

During an interview with NBC anchor Matt Lauer on the "Today" show, the rapper shared his empathy with former President George W. Bush about being called a racist, but became visibly upset when the show played, while he was speaking, a clip of his infamous interruption of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

Not only did the incident send the hip-hop heavyweight on a full-blown Twitter rant, it also has received quite a reaction from MTV News readers.

"Yes, Kanye is an emotional guy ... but Matt was trying to prompt his answers and even though they play video under their interviews, it is rude, especially when someone is being especially serious," reader Deb writes. "I think Kanye went there with good intention and was derailed."

Acknowledging the West backlash, another reader, Jacque, says it was unnecessary to air the footage while the rapper was speaking. "Yes Kanye may be reaping from what he sowed, however that was rude to play the tape while he was talking," she writes. "Matt could have announced that they were about to play the tape either before or after Kanye answered Matt's question. That's how they normally do it. What changed?"

Others, such as Rich Reynolds, say most critics should lay off the Chicago MC, as he's just in tune with his feelings: "Take it easy, people. Kanye is an emotional guy, and has made some impetuous remarks, but he's not a bad or evil man, and should get a pass for speaking his mind. He's an 'artist' and has an artistic temperament. So cut him some slack."

While some readers have come to Kanye's defense, many aren't too sure if the rapper's ego-trip ways are gone for good.

Longtime supporter Daniella says West can choose whether or not he wants to talk to the press. "You're in showbiz, you're a celebrity, and you choose to go in front of cameras and be interviewed," she writes. "What did you think would happen? You're a great artist and musician, I'm in awe of that with you. Can you just do what's best for you and not your public image, 'cause obviously you're ruining that by doing stuff like this."

Amanda shares similar sentiments, admitting that the pressures of celebrity may be catching up to the MC: "I truly admired and respected Kanye, but seeing this interview today, it saddens me to see such a talented young man lose it so fast and act so out of control over a normal thing on a talk show. He knew what he was getting into when he agreed to be on the show, he knew that issue would have been brought up."

Another MTV News reader explains that if West was apologetic of his past feelings, he should own up to the comments, regardless of whether they evoke positive or negative emotions.

"Kanye, if you really want to 'man up' then you need to man up. They were your comments in those clips, you said it, you need to own it, good, bad or indifferent," Kathy writes. "Maybe you need to look at those clips a little more often to remind yourself of who you say you are trying to be."

How do you think Kanye handled himself during and after the "Today" interview? Sound off below!
