Just before his latest album Libra Scale drops, Ne-Yo has welcomed another new arrival. The singer's girlfriend gave birth to a baby girl Friday night, and the proud papa took to Twitter Saturday (November 13) to gush about the news.

"As my life transforms due to the new life that sprung up on me last night, it's good to know my folks support. Luv y'all," the singer/songwriter wrote to Twitter followers who piled on the e-love after hearing about his daughter's birth.

A rep for the singer confirmed to MTV News that the couple welcomed a girl named Madilyn Grace Smith Friday night. The crooner also expressed the joy he feels as a new father.

"Much luv to my twit fam and everybody showin' luv to my new addition!! She's healthy and happy. Feels like I'm in luv for the first time," he wrote. "Welcoming that lil' girl to the world last night defined for me what 'willing to kill and die for' truly means. My world, my life, all hers."

The amped superstar added, "Brand new baby, brand new album. Life is GOOD!!!! Nov. 22nd, around the corner!!!"

According to People, Georgia radio stations reported Ne-Yo's girlfriend, Monyetta Shaw, went into labor early in the city while the singer attended a charity event. The singer rushed to his lady's side to welcome their daughter, who was originally due in January.

The hitmaker revealed to Ebony magazine over the summer that he was "very, very, very excited" to have his first child on the way. While he has just welcomed his first baby, this is not the singer's first experience with fatherhood. Ne-Yo initially believed he was the father of toddler named Chimere but later learned the child was not biologically his.

However, in a 2008 interview with USA Today, the singer maintained he was ready to have kids, and hinted he would be a very protective dad to a young girl.

"When the first guy comes to my door asking for my daughter, I might end up going to jail," he said. "I just don't know how I'll handle that."

Kanye West, Talib Kweli And Consequence Jump On 'Chain Heavy'

After nixing a "Today" show concert, Kanye West flew to Dubai to hit the stage. Yet, amid the jet-setting and morning show-beefing, Yeezy didn't forget to gift fans with his latest G.O.O.D. Friday joint, Chain Heavy."

West turned to some of his longtime partners-in-rhyme for his newest effort, corralling Brooklyn MC Talib Kweli and G.O.O.D. Music spitter Consequence for the track.

Riding Q-Tip's woozy, loopy synth-and-piano-driven beat, 'Ye kicks things off with lyrics like, "My teeth already white/ Y'all gonna make me floss for nothing/ My teeth real diamonds, what's the cause of the fronting?"

He follows up with references to the heft of his famously enormous, Egyptian-inspired gold chain, dropping bars like, "For every inch they cut the nose off the Sphinx/ I make my jeweler add a few more links."

West sets aside the bravado in his second verse to lay bare the struggle that informs some of his art.

"What color was the skin of the man who bared the cross?/ No matter how many lashes they couldn't beat it off," he spits. "I keep that gold book on a ottoman/ And wrote hooks about slaves that was slaughtered in the 1800s/ Y'all forget that I got called n----- on Twitter so many times, Yo I lived that."

Then Kweli enters, rattling off rapid-fire lyrics and switching up the complexity of his cadence as hespits bars like, "My chain heavy, stopping that traffic/ Coppers harass us, the DA attack us, want us in chains like B.A. Baracus."

Although renowned for the political and social musings of his content, Kweli takes a page from West's rhyme book, tossing out lines about his lyrical prowess.

"It ain't looking good for you if you a tourist here/ Sometimes our rhymes is on a frequency that only purists hear/ A couple rappers tried to beef with me, nobody scared/ N----- was so f------- corny that nobody cared," he rhymes with a chuckle."

Consequence begins his verse with the story of a former "ball and chain" who becomes a "chain smoker" and picks up some lame as a new boyfriend, who tries to step to the MC.

"So it's obvious that he don't know the chain of command/ 'Cause my chain commands, that kind of respect/ And it's so chunky that it's a pain in the neck/ But it came with a check," he spits. "I remember on Chaining Day/ It spoke for itself and this is what the chain would say/ Them chain snatchers are hoping that you ain't ready/ So don't get distracted keep your aim steady/ Or there'll be a chain reaction since my chains heavy."

Q-Tip hinted via Twitter that the resulting G.O.O.D. Friday beat is a toned-down version of his original vision.

"Believe me I had that sh-- sounding even crazier!!" the hip-hop Renaissance man tweeted. He added that more monster records featuring Yeezy and his "big brother" might be on the way.

" 'Ye and I got sh-- for Jay-Z that crushes," 'Tip added. "Hope y'all ready"

NEW YORK — There's a new Jay in the Roc Nation camp.

At an event at downtown New York burlesque venue The Box Friday night, hip-hop kingpin Jay-Z announced that New Orleans lyricist and Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010 candidate Jay Electronica is the latest signee to his Roc Nation label.

"My whole goal is to reintroduce magic to hip hop," Jay said of bringing Electronica into his fold. "We watched this wizard do his thing. Y'all supported him. And he's an official Roc Nation signee."

Rocking a black suit, white shirt and black tie, Electronica performed notable e-bangers "Exhibit A" and "Exhibit C" to the packed house. Although he's characterized by his unique and progressive approach to hip-hop, Jay Elect followed in the tradition of many Hov signees before him and threw up the Roc symbol.

"My name is Jay Electronica and my mama is here so you can't tell me sh--," the MC proclaimed. However, despite the moment of bravado, Jay Elect did politely ask his new boss if he could have the floor.

"Hov, permission to speak freely, sir," he queried.

However, the Brooklyn legend made it clear the night was all about "The Ghost of Christopher Wallace" lyricist.

"This is your show," Jay said. "You better get it."

The announcement comes after Jay Elect spent years building buzz on the underground circuit and snagging the attention of hip-hop luminaries such as Nas and Diddy.

The MC is also the latest MC to join the increasingly diverse Roc Nation family, which counts pint-size, swagger queen Willow Smith and Loud songstress Rihanna among its new additions.

'Don't be afraid of the press, as your art is your blueprint,' mogul writes in open letter to MC.

As Kanye West's drama with the "Today" show continues to unspool, some high-profile observers of the controversy have come out in support of the outspoken MC.

On Friday, mogul and Def Jam founder Russell Simmons wrote an open letter on his Global Grind website to Yeezy encouraging him to keep his head up, and insisting "there is no need to apologize" for his comments about President George Bush's handling of the 2005 Hurricane Katrina rescue effort.

"When you spoke about President Bush during the Katrina telethon, it was not the particulars of your words that mattered, it was the essence of a feeling of the insensitivity towards our communities that many of us have felt for far too long. It was the image of the President, our President, the President of the United States Of America, peering out the window of an airplane, as the people on the ground were drowning, that hurt us the most. For centuries, our people have relentlessly tread water as hard as they could to stay afloat, and here we were, literally drowning, and it felt like the President was insensitive," Simmons wrote. "You spoke from your heart and that is all we will ever ask from you. Don't be afraid of the press, as your art is your blueprint, thanks to Jay-Z, your big brother, we will always carry our destiny in our own hands. You are an artist whose art is masterful. You are a servant to this world who no matter how hard it gets, keeps on giving. "

The hip-hop impresario went on to applaud Yeezy for his creative accomplishments, citing his short film "Runaway" and his turn on the Simmons-backed "Def Poetry Jam" as moments he says West shined. He also spoke about the lyricist's much-discussed run-in with Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV VMAs, which has continued to be a sore spot for the superstar spitter.

"We witnessed your moment at the MTV Music Awards and many of us dismissed it as, 'oh that is just Kanye being Kanye.' " he wrote. "The hard part of all of this, is that we have all had moments in our lives that have been challenging, painful and hard to overcome, however most of us just hide our emotions and never deal with that inner-struggle that we face on a daily basis."

Simmons is not the only member of the Def Jam family to voice support for the headline-grabbing MC. Singer/songwriter Ne-Yo took to Twitter Friday, maintaining he was staunchly Team Kanye.

"@kanyewest Keep the creativity flowin'. Even when they don't understand," the Libra Scale singer wrote. "Up to us to keep this shit interesting, even if only for ourselves."

'Ye's "Runaway" co-star Selita Ebanks has also said she reached out to West as his "Today" show saga played out.

"I wrote him some kind words, just [encouraging] him to stay positive and just concentrate on his music," Ebanks told NBC New York's Niteside blog at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show afterparty Thursday night. "He has a great gift and he should be appreciated for it."

West has been embroiled in a public back-and-forth with NBC's "Today" show after the MC taped an interview responding to former President George Bush's recent comments about Yeezy. The "Power" lyricist has complained about the show's use of footage of the Bush sit-down and the Taylor Swift stage-crash during his conversation with Matt Lauer. On Friday the MC pulled out of a scheduled "Today" show concert on November 26.

Demi Lovato's Disney hit "Sonny with a Chance" is slated to continue production next season without the troubled star. Network representatives told Variety that the show will focus the inner-workings of the sketch comedy program Lovato's character, Sonny, appears on, "So Random!"

"This allows her the time she needs to get well, without distraction or pressure," a Disney Channel spokesperson said. "Again, we extend our ongoing support to Demi and her family as she works to overcome personal issues."

The show's new format will focus on a beefed-up version of "So Random!" packed with with guest stars, performances and digital shorts. The revamped show will give Lovato time to work on her problems and shooting will kick off in January as originally scheduled.

Lovato recently quit her tour with the Jonas Brothers to deal with "emotional and physical issues." The teen starlet has been reportedly grappling with depression and cutting, and entered a treatment center to try to resolve her issues. However, her rep recently batted away rumors that Lovato is dealing with substance-abuse problems.

"Demi Lovato is not in treatment for drug or alcohol addiction," her spokesperson said in a statement Wednesday. "As we have said since she entered treatment last week, Demi decided to seek help for emotional and physical issues she has battled throughout her life. She has taken this step in order to get her life in order."

Addiction specialist and "Celebrity Rehab" host Dr. Drew Pinsky has maintained that stars in Lovato's position need to put recovery before their careers in order to overcome their personal issues.

"The important thing for Demi when she has finished treatment, whatever treatment it is she has received, is that she have adequate and thorough follow-up care, follows the direction of her team of professionals and that she doesn't return to work too prematurely," he said. "The number-one reason my patients that are celebrities get in trouble is they go back to work because they make a lot of money for themselves and other people. It's very gratifying, but it takes them out of their treatment."

Send your well-wishes to Demi Lovato in the comments.

The countdown to the "Green Lantern" is closing in on a notable milestone: the premiere of the film's trailer.

The trailer for the 2011 release is slated to drop next week, but "Entertainment Tonight" recently previewed the clip, which gives fans a glimpse of a muscle-bound Ryan Reynolds all suited up in the emerald uniform.

The show's teaser shows Reynolds whipping out of his Hal Jordan street clothes and into his superhero garb in a flash, dashing about in his underwear, wielding his super-powerful ring, dropping in on foes and interacting with his co-star "Gossip Girl" Blake Lively.

The preview also shows Reynolds' "Green Lantern" costume in action, a sartorial choice that divided fans who wondered if the look was too much of a departure from the superhero's classic crime-fighting apparel. However, the film's star welcomed the dialogue kicked up by the suit's revamp.

"There has to be a little healthy debate about it," Reynolds told MTV News at Comic-Con in July. "I mean, that's important. If it were just slanted one way or the other, I don't think it would be that satisfying."

The trailer isn't the first time fans have gotten a chance to check out advance footage of the flick. Comic-Con attendees also previewed some of the Lantern's aerial swoops, checked out a glimpse of Peter Sarsgaard's turn as villain Hector Hammond and got a taste of Tomar-Re.

"The tone is light," director Martin Campbell explained of the film. "It has a lot of humor, but I think the relationships between all the characters are very real. We try to keep the action very real. ... It's my first superhero movie — unless you count James Bond."

'Harry Potter' Actor Tom Felton Gets 'Tips' From Celebrated Co-Stars

'The last thing I wanted was to be the pesky young guy who's asking them a thousand questions,' he says of high-profile castmates.

Never mind the success, fame and fortune the decade of filming eight "Harry Potter" films has brought the cast. One of the major perks the young actors received over the years was exposure to some of the most celebrated actors working today.

A common joke among the supporting cast — including Kenneth Branagh, Jason Isaacs, Emma Thompson, Maggie Clark, Alan Rickman, Helena Bonham Carter, etc. — is that the "Potter" films have employed all the British actors in equity at some point or another. The high caliber of acting royalty, as it were, was not lost on the young castmembers, who took advantage of any opportunity to learn from such seasoned professionals.

When MTV News caught up with Tom Felton recently, we asked him how it felt to be surrounded by such esteemed thespians — particularly in the scene at Malfoy Manor, where the Death Eaters gather with Voldemort.

"It was a three-day, maybe four-day scene, and needless to say, the first day, I was pretty quiet," Felton said of filming. "The last thing I wanted was to be the pesky young guy who's asking them a thousand questions about old projects.

"But realistically, they're the nicest people in the world," Felton said of his co-stars. "As soon as you ask them a question, they usually have a dozen answers to throw at you, especially Jason [Isaacs]," he added of the actor who plays Lucius Malfoy, the father of his character Draco. "He's been incredibly good with telling me stories. Also onscreen as well as offscreen tips, they're not necessarily telling you what to do, but you can just watch them and learn from their mannerisms, which is always exciting. You learn after a couple of days that these people are exceptionally normal and very kind people."

It's Harry Potter Week at MTV News! Join us Monday night at 6 p.m. ET on MTV.com as we live-stream from the red-carpet premiere of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1" and talk with all the "Potter" stars.
