SAN DIEGO -- One movie that has created quite a bit of buzz at San Diego Comic-Con -- thanks in large part to a well-received sneak preview on Saturday (July 24) -- is Zack Snyder's "Sucker Punch," which opens in March 2011 and which the director has described as "'Alice in Wonderland' with machine guns."

MTV News caught up with four of the movie's stars -- Vanessa Hudgens, Emily Browning, Jamie Chung and Jena Malone -- and chatted about the training they did for their intense action sequences.

"We probably at the beginning all felt like, oh my God, we don't look like fighters," Browning said. "We're kind of all little girls. We trained our asses off -- we worked really hard."

Browning went on to note that the training was a bit more intense than a typical session at the gym. "We had Navy SEALs training us," Browning said. "We trained for three months, six hours a day. And we got strong."

The actresses got so into training, they would crave workouts when they didn't have any scheduled.

"If they weren't fighting [with] guns, they had withdrawal," Chung revealed. "Jenna was always talking about it ... she was so obsessed."

Browning added, "If we didn't get to work out one day we'd be, like, shaking."

The actresses were also eager to mention their love and enthusiasm for director Zack Snyder. Malone commended Snyder's enthusiasm and collaborative spirit, and Browning said she'd happily sign onto another Snyder film without even needing to see a script.

Ryan Reynolds Talks About 'Green Lantern' Costume Controversy

'There has to be a little healthy debate about it. That's important,' star says of the outcry over his character's redesigned suit.

SAN DIEGO -- During the Warner Bros. panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday (July 24), fans got the first glimpses of footage from "Green Lantern." But there was one big aspect of the film missing: the title character's suit. It wasn't a complete mystery, though, as it had already been as part of the magazine's Comic-Con sneak preview -- and its look has already sparked some unrest among fans.

Ryan Reynolds, who plays the dual role of Hal Jordan and the flick's title character, spoke with MTV News about the controversy -- and he said that he's glad not everyone is satisfied. "There has to be a little healthy debate about it. That's important," he said. "If it were just slanted one way or the other, I don't think it would be that satisfying."

The suit was created solely using CGI, and it has lines along it that are supposed to recreate the musculature possessed by Jordan. It does not have the white gloves that were a part of the Green Lantern's outfit in comics and cartoons.

"Truthfully, we've only seen a tiny glimpse of the suit," Reynolds noted. "We haven't seen it in motion, and we haven't seen the full suit as well."

He also was a fan of ditching the gloves. "The white gloves aren't there, and I think that's fine because, specifically, they're lame," he said. "But everything else is going to be there. I think the fanboys and the people that are new to the character are going to love it."

Up-and-coming actor competed with his brother for the title role in Kenneth Branagh's film.

SAN DIEGO — Actor Chris Hemsworth is relatively unknown to the greater public — but quite a few movie fans have known Hemsworth's name for a while, thanks to his being cast The God of Thunder is one of the most iconic characters in the Marvel Universe, and MTV News was curious to find out Hemsworth's path to the role.

"The very first audition I had was one of those things in amongst several other auditions you get," Hemsworth told MTV News at San Diego Comic-Con. "You know nothing about it, there's no script or anything — it's very secretive. You might quickly rip through a couple of comic books, but it's also based on instinct."

Hemsworth went on to say that he later met with director Kenneth Branagh, and that his brother (actor Liam Hemsworth, also known as Miley Cyrus' current squeeze) was up for the same role.

Was competing with his flesh and blood awkward?

"No, it's great," he laughed, making it clear that there is no brotherly rivalry. "The majority of the time in this business, we're sort of pinching ourselves."

Hemsworth added that the family support goes both ways. "I'm excited for him and vice versa. Through that process, I was giving him advice on what I thought Ken wanted — and then when I was in there testing, he was doing the same."

How do you think Chris Hemsworth will fare as Thor? Tell us in the comments!

'Sucker Punch' Won't Get 3-D Treatment, Director Confirms At Comic-Con

'None of us want to get kicked in the knees because our 3-D is crappy,' Zack Snyder says of lackluster conversion tests on the action flick.

SAN DIEGO — There had been speculation that one of the latest films to be getting the 3-D treatment would be Zack Snyder's "Sucker Punch," but when the director chatted with MTV News at Comic-Con on Friday, he confirmed — with deep regret — that the action flick would not be making the transition.

"It's not going to be in 3-D. I wanted it to be in 3-D, and we talked a lot about it, and we've looked at a lot of tests," Snyder said. "None of us want to get kicked in the knees because our 3-D is crappy."

Filmmakers took some preliminary steps to see how the film might look with a three-dimensional finish, but according to Snyder, the results weren't good enough to convince them to go that route. "We've looked at a lot of potential vendors who could turn it into 3-D, and it wasn't conceived in 3-D, like 'Guardians,' because I have made a movie, 'Legends of Guardians,' which is conceived in 3-D and it's cool 3-D. Maybe the problem was, I have been working on that for two years," Snyder speculated. "Now I'm broken by 3-D. I'm in love with 3-D. I can't go back."

These days, with its potential to fatten the box-office haul, going 3-D seems increasingly to be a studio decision rather than a director's. But Snyder said Warner Bros. trusted him when he said he didn't think a 3-D conversion would work. "They haven't really second-guessed me that much, and I appreciate that," he said. "Sucker Punch," which co-stars Vanessa Hudgens and Abbie Cornish, is due March 2011. Hudgens told MTV News this week that "Punch" through 3-D glasses "would be so badass."

As far as his previous films being converted into 3-D, Snyder seemed doubtful that they would return to the big screen in three dimensions. He revealed that screen tests had been done of "300" in 3-D (the director joked that it could be called "300D"), but it probably wouldn't get a green light. Even less likely would be "Watchmen" in 3-D, which he gushed "would be awesome," but Snyder didn't seem to think the world needed yet another version of his passion project.

"One more 3-hour-and-45-minute 'Watchmen,' " he said with a laugh, before confirming that it was not on the list.

Zachary Quinto Says 'Star Trek 2' Won't Start Filming For 'A While'

Though Zachary Quinto is at San Diego Comic-Con to promote "Lucid," the first comic from his production company, Before the Door Pictures, which debuted at the Con, he was willing to shed some light on the upcoming "Star Trek 2."

There isn't much known about the sequel, though writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman told MTV News that they're "making significant process on the story." Quinto, who was joined by "Lucid" creator and author Michael McMillian at the convention, said he is ready for anything the writers throw at him.

"I can't wait to go back. We have a while until we're going to do another one. It probably won't be until next year at this time," he said, debunking rumors that filming would start in January.

J.J. Abrams, who directed 2009's "Star Trek," hasn't confirmed that he will be directing the sequel, but Quinto said he would still be onboard even if Abrams isn't.

"I have a lot of trust and gratitude and respect for J.J. [Abrams] and Damon Lindelof and for Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman. They know what they're doing," Quinto said. "I would obviously love to see J.J. directing every 'Star Trek' movie that I'm ever a part of, but if it's not the case, I'm sure whoever does will be someone he's chosen for whatever reason. They know what's up. I just show up where they tell me to show up and stand on a piece of tape."

When asked if there might be a Spock-versus-Khan confrontation in the film, Quinto avoided the question by pretending he was asked if there would be a Con, in the film. "Actually, 'Star Trek 2' takes place at Comic-Con. Have you gotten an advance copy of the script? Unacceptable," the actor joked.

Quinto continued, "I don't know man, I don't know. I'm just excited. My focus is elsewhere and I know that when the time is right and they want me to be involved again ... Until then, I love to let them do their thing because I know that what they're doing is really exciting but also really fun. They're good people."

SAN DIEGO -- Nicolas Cage seems to have an infatuation with the devil. His forthcoming film "Drive Angry 3D" involves him escaping from hell, and he tangled with Mephistopheles in the 2007 film "Ghost Rider." He was more than willing to chat with MTV News about the upcoming "Ghost Rider" sequel, even though the movie is in its very early stages.

"I'm going to have a meeting with [directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor] in the next few days. I'm excited to talk with them about it," he said. "I'm very hopeful that with their enthusiasm and energy, this will be an exciting movie as well."

Cage said he's looking forward to seeing how Neveldine and Taylor, who are best known for their work with the "Crank" films, plan to put their stamp on the film, which is tentatively titled "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance."

"My excitement about them is they're brilliant with the camera," he said. "They make movies look new. They have a way with camera that is unquestionably unique and a signature for them. I think that kind of energy for this style of film will take it to the next level."

He added that the film is slated to be shot in Romania, which happens to be the country where Dracula's castle is located. Although there aren't any plans to film at the castle yet, Cage said he hoped there would be a scene where the Ghost Rider drives his motorcycle up to its entrance.

Earlier this month, in the sequel. "It's a different trajectory," he said, "but it's still the same guy. That's all I can talk about!"

Jeff Bridges: 'Big Lebowski' Sequel Would Be A 'Wonderful Surprise'

Bridges' forthcoming flick 'True Grit' reunites him with Joel and Ethan Coen, who helmed the cult classic.

SAN DIEGO — How can Jeff Bridges get in a room with the Coen Brothers and not mention "The Big Lebowski"? When the "Tron Legacy" star came by the MTV / MySpace Watchtower at San Diego Comic-Con and talk turned to the "True Grit" movie that's reuniting him with the "Lebowski" helmers, MTV News couldn't resist asking the Dude about the possibility of a sequel to the 1998 cult classic.

"We talked about it occasionally [while making 'True Grit'], but no plans man, no plans," Bridges said, to much disappointment around the room. "No, no, no, I don't think it's gonna happen." But then, with a sly grin, Bridges reopened the door ever so slightly: "But if it happens — what a wonderful surprise!"

Bridges' non-"Lebowski" reunion with Joel and Ethan Coen, "True Grit," is in post-production and scheduled for a December release. Bridges stars opposite Matt Damon, Josh Brolin and Barry Pepper in a remake of sorts of the 1969 Western that became synonymous with the great John Wayne.

"I hope it's going to be a great Western," Bridges told MTV News.

"You've got the Coen brothers — master filmmakers — doing a Western for the first time, something they were really excited about," he continued. "To be a part of that was great. It's based on a great book by the same title, 'True Grit.' They are really basing the movie on the book, as opposed to the John Wayne [film]."

December is going to be a big month for Bridges. "Tron: Legacy," in which the Oscar-winner reprises his role from the 1982 classic "Tron," is set for release that month as well.

SAN DIEGO — A Comic-Con attendee stabbed another in the face with a pen at the conference on Saturday (July 24). The dispute was allegedly over the victim's attempt to save a seat for a friend before the Universal Studios panel, which was taking place in the San Diego Convention Center's 6,500-seat Hall H.

First word of the incident reached Twitter around 5 p.m. PDT. According to entertainment journalist Jen Yamato, the man who was arrested for the stabbing was wearing the "Harry Potter" T-shirt that Warner Bros. had given away during its panel earlier in the day. He was taken away in handcuffs, with his white T-shirt covered in blood. The man reportedly stated he was defending himself and that he was "sorry it happened." The victim, who was stabbed near the eye, was taken away by medics on a stretcher.

Police told Entertainment Weekly that attendees subdued the attacker, who was then arrested. The victim has been taken to the hospital, and their status remains unknown. Identities of the people involved in the incident have not been released.

The Universal panel, which has reportedly been pushed back an hour from its 4:45 p.m. start time, is slated to include first looks at "Paul" and "Cowboys and Aliens," and also pushed back the Marvel and Kevin Smith panels.

Guillermo Del Toro Dishes On 'Haunted Mansion' Remake

'For some people, it's just a ride, but for others like me, it's a way of life,' del Toro says.

SAN DIEGO -- One of the biggest surprises at Comic-Con thus far came on Thursday during the Disney panel, when Guillermo del Toro came out and announced that he would be writing, producing and maybe directing a remake of "The Haunted Mansion."

Del Toro joked that they weren't returning Eddie Murphy's calls for this, referencing Murphy's 2003 comedy. He has been a lifelong fan of the Disneyland ride, and was collecting memorabilia from the ride before he even thought about making a film.

"For some people, it's just a ride, but for others like me, it's a way of life. We're serious fanatics. I'm a big, big collector of it. I've been collecting not only memorabilia but artifacts and original artifacts from the mansion for the past 10 years," he said. MTV's Josh Horowitz joked that del Toro could just use those to recreate the Mansion, but del Toro responded, "I'm going to use the budget of the film to create more props for my room."

At the Disney panel, del Toro announced that the Hat Box Ghost will be the main haunting in the film, and he elaborated about it to MTV News.

"It's such a great character that there's literally -- amongst Haunted Mansion fanatics, the hardcore ones -- a cult for the Hat Box Ghost. You can Google it, it's pretty intense, and I am one of them," he said. The legend around the ride's Hat Box Ghost was that it was "a beautiful creature" that was discarded on the first day of ride operation because they thought it was too scary. "The reality is that Imagineers could not make the illusion work, so they took it out," he said.

In terms of the plot, del Toro said Disney plans on taking the core mythology of the ride and are expanding it so there are many haunted mansions around the world. "They are all part of sort of a web and the spider sitting in the center of the web is what fans of the Haunted Mansion would know by the nickname the Hat Box Ghost," he elaborated.

Fans who are expecting to see a return to the 2003 film's tone will be surprised by del Toro's vision, he teased. "The movie I see in my head of 'Haunted Mansion' is not, I believe, what everyone is imagining it to be," he said. "It's not just a regular world with a haunted mansion plopped in the middle. I really am thinking of a movie that has a heightened reality."

Zack Snyder Says 'Xerxes' Is Not A Sequel Nor Prequel To '300'

'It parallels '300' in a really cool way,' writer/director explains at San Diego Comic-Con.

SAN DIEGO — Talk of sequels, prequels and spin-offs have circulated on the Internet ever since "300" cleaned up at the box office in 2006. Director Zack Snyder, at San Diego Comic-Con promoting his upcoming "Sucker Punch," told MTV News that he has begun co-writing a script based on Frank Miller's "Xerxes," which it sounds like he'll direct, as well.

"Kurt [Johnstad] and I are writing it right now, using Frank's graphic novel that he's creating as our spine, as our jumping-off point, as our Bible," said Snyder.

Dark Horse Comics will begin publishing the new Miller comics later this year. The story focuses on Greek leader Themistocles and, of course, another grand battle against tough odds.

"Frank came up with a cool story. It parallels '300' in a really cool way. Instead of it being a sequel or a prequel ... the battle that it sort of chronicles takes place on the exact same three days as [the battle depicted in '300'], so it is kind of [parallel], so that's kind of cool."

A high-octane epic (very loosely) based on a real-life swords-and-sandals battle between Persians and Spartans, "300" was remarkable for its extremely muscular heroes, highly stylized visuals and star-making casting choice of Gerard Butler as Spartan leader Leonidas. While it's certain that "Xerxes" will feature buff dudes, will the stylized visuals return? How about Butler?

"Yeah I think so," Snyder reported on the style. "I can't imagine that you would need to reinvent it. It's based on Frank's drawings, which are very much like '300.' I'd say that you'd kind of stay in that world." And as for Butler? "I gotta talk to him! It would be awesome. He's great."

Snyder isn't officially confirmed to direct, but he did tell us that "all things being equal — script comes together, everyone's schedules, blah, blah, blah," he'll be there.
