Nicki Minaj's 'Your Love' Video -- Watch It Here!

Maybe Nicki Minaj — whose alter ego is named Roman Zolanski — should consider yet another nickname: Onika Thurman perhaps? Because the theatrical MC does her best impersonation of Uma Thurman's Bride from in "Kill Bill" in her new "Your Love" video, which premiered Wednesday (July 21) on MTV.

"We wanted to have geisha themes, samurai themes, stuff like that," Minaj told MTV News from the Los Angeles set. "I wanted to tell a love story. It's just kinda liking a guy, where he's not really for you to like — the forbidden fruit — and me and this other girl happen to like him and we go to war."

In the clip, actor Michael Jai White serves as the Young Money MC's sensei and love interest. Decked out in geisha gear, Nicki raps while White teaches a martial arts class. She's soon swooning over her instructor.

Another student, however, also has feelings for the teacher and observes Nicki's smitten ways. The two women exchange words that escalate into all-out battle, à la the Bride and Lucy Liu's Cottonmouth character, leaving one gasping for life as White discovers the body.

The "Your Love" clip was directed by Lil X and follows the Queens rapper's first visual, 'Massive Attack," which was helmed by Hype Williams. The song is also the second single from Minaj's yet-untitled debut, slated to arrive November 23. (The rapper tweeted the date to her followers earlier this month.)

Currently, Nicki Minaj is also enjoying top-five status as a finalist vying for MTV's "Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010." She's earned plenty of fans with her over-the-top delivery and facial ticks during her rhymes.

"Nicki Minaj runs hip-hop," M.I.A. said recently. "She works hard, and that's what it is. She's focused, and that's good. She's got really good work ethic."

J. Cole Is A Top-Five Finalist For 'Hottest Breakthrough MC Of 2010'!

Winner will be revealed on MTV2's 'Sucker Free Summit' Sunday at noon.

It is here: As promised, the top-five vote-getters in our poll for "Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010" will be revealed this week. These are the artists you guys voted for over the past month, and we can't express enough how overwhelmed we were by your participation in this project. More than 200,000 votes came in, and they were tallied as of midnight Friday. Keep in mind, the unveiling of the names this week are the top five, but in no particular order. The winner of the "Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010," as voted on by the MTV News audience, will be revealed Sunday (July 25) at noon on the "Sucker Free Summit."

Chosen One: J. Cole

Rising in the Ranks: Jermaine Cole was focused, then lost it, and now his vision is as lucid as ever. The 25-year-old rapper was no ordinary jock in high school, back in his hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Just like fans applaud him when he performs concerts, J. was highly acclaimed by his high school teachers for his academia. Pretty soon, the students began to love him as well. He cut his teeth in freestyle ciphers at football games. Rather than accepting a scholarship locally, he wanted to kill two birds with one stone: go to the media mecca of New York City to pursue music while gaining higher education at the esteemed St. John's University.

But the allure of the bright lights and all the other trappings of the big city put J. in a chokehold. His first two years in school, he partied and chased girls, but he finally snapped out of his haze his junior year, graduating magna cum laude. Cole gained the following he has now by showing off his ever-evolving lyricism with the mixtapes The Come Up and The Warm Up.

In between those projects, Cole signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation. Like Kanye West, Cole was first introduced to Jay as a producer, but Hov quickly discovered J.'s blue-chip verbal acumen. Cole got the ultimate co-sign, appearing on Jigga's "A Star Is Born" from Blueprint 3 last year.

Now with "Who Dat" rising as the first look from his still-untitled debut LP, the fans are looking at Cole as one to crack the mainstream hard any minute.

Early Insight: "Anything I do, whether it's a freestyle I drop or [a song], man, I feel like I got a lot to prove — not just to people, but to myself," Cole said. "I've been wanting this a long time. I didn't want to just get a deal. I didn't want to just put out an album. I want to be here for a long time. I've got big goals and big dreams, even beyond where I'm at right now."

Blistering Ballistics: "The mind state of a winner/ When you thinkin' bout summertime/ I'm thinkin' 'bout the winter/ When you thinkin' 'bout breakfast/ I'm heatin' up my dinner/ I was plottin' this moment back when y'all was ridin' spinners/ Now I'm a menace/ God as my witness, with this pen I'm insane, yup/ Hungry like the n---a who ain't got the taste of fame yet/ Cloud told me, 'Ain't you Roc? Well, where the f--- yo chain at?' " — from Cole's "Who Dat"

Forecast: Cole hasn't hit the home run smash out of the park yet, but he's laying the all-too-essential groundwork to establish himself as not just at the top of his weight class as far as lyricism goes, but his live shows have displayed his potential to be one of the great performers in the coming years. Win, lose or draw with his album, Cole is banking on himself. He says there will be no features on his debut, because he has too much to say.

MTV News will be rolling out the top-five candidates for "Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010" all week — with the winner being revealed on MTV2's "Sucker Free Summit" on Sunday at noon!

Lady Gaga: From Pop Deity To Human Being, One Reality Show At A Time

Bigger Than the Sound wonders: Is Gaga the most everyman pop star around?
By James Montgomery

By now, you are probably aware that Lady Gaga is an unstoppable moneymaking machine, an insatiable studio junkie, a high-ranking Polaroid executive, an honorary Hair Wars champion, a burgeoning fashion icon, the next Madonna, more popular than Barack Obama and quite possibly a member of the Illuminati.

But, chances are, you didn't know that she's also a big fan of A&E's "Intervention."

Or maybe you did. After all, she tweeted about it Tuesday, calling the show "informational, heartbreaking and inspiring." And while the idea of Gaga sitting in a hotel room, hair done up in Diet Coke can curlers, cigarette sunglasses still smoldering on the bedside table, watching Allison huff duster (and subsequently walk on sunshine) is rather amazing, it's also important too. Because it's just another step in the latest chapter of her career: her continued transformation from otherworldly pop deity into an actual human being.

And perhaps I am reading entirely too much into one simple tweet about a phenomenally addictive reality show (about addiction), but now — more than at any point in her time in the spotlight — Gaga seems determined to be one of us. She chugs beer at baseball games (albeit while wearing a leather jacket and a bikini), crushes BBQ at Boston dive bars and spends her off-days in New York cooking for her dad, drinking and watching episodes of "Cops" (something she made a point of mentioning onstage at her tour kickoff in Montreal). She spoke openly and frankly about her ex-boyfriend in an interview with Rolling Stone, and her newest song — a piano ballad called "You and I" — seems to be very much about reconciling with him, in perhaps the most un-Gaga setting imaginable: a dark and dirty bar. (It's also worth noting that the songs sounds a whole lot like a Billy Joel B-side, and who's more everyman than the Piano Man?)

At this point, I don't know what she could possibly do for an encore — maybe start Tivo-ing "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" or take on a disastrous adjustable-rate mortgage? — but the fact remains that right now, despite all her trappings, Gaga is probably the most openly human pop superstar on the planet (or at least the most open). Can you imagine any of her contemporaries — the Beyoncés and Britneys and Madonnas of the galaxy — giving the finger to photographers at a Mets game or slaving away in the kitchen? Of course not. Would any of them go to such great lengths to shed the veil of celebrity and seem so downright normal? Not in a million years. Lady Gaga has basically graduated to a whole new level now, one that's either so far above — or so far below — anything anyone else has ever attempted that it seems positively groundbreaking: She is the cursing, drinking, red-meat-devouring deity. She is, in a sense, just like you or I.

But is any of it intentional? I'm not really sure. When I interviewed Gaga last year in San Diego, I asked her if she were "in character" all the time or if there were moments when she was just, you know, normal (i.e. When she went to the grocery store, did she wear those Alexander McQueen armadillo heels?). She responded, quite matter-of-factly, that Lady Gaga wasn't a character; it was who she was, and that, if there was any kind of concept behind her career, it was — as she put it — to "create an atmosphere for my fans, where they don't leave loving me, they leave loving themselves."

So even back then, the template appeared to be in place. Gaga is not untouchable, she is not perfect — she's not supposed to be. And while some might find the notion of their pop royalty slumming it down here with the rest of us rather uncouth, I for one find it rather admirable. It's not careerist or calculated; it's just Gaga being Gaga. And, I suspect, it's just one of the many reasons her "little monsters" love her so.

And, if she wants to continue down her current path, might I suggest "Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch," currently airing on VH1? It's waaay everyman.

Do you think Gaga is relatable or untouchable? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

N.E.R.D. Say Nothing Album Is 'Intended To Inspire Humans'

N.E.R.D. have said that their upcoming album, Nothing, will be a "psychedelic" romp through the throwback counterculture vibes of yesteryear inspired by, among other things, women. However, the band recently made it clear that while the release caters to the ladies, all fans are welcome to the party.

"Women are essential to life on this planet," frontman Pharrell told MTV News when the group stopped by the newsroom Monday. "They just hold a very sacred place, they always have for me. My taste and appetite for women has been clearly evident in my music and my videos. We just felt like that was the sweetest spot for us to concentrate on. Having that in mind, just because the concept of the album is us having a conversation with women at a roundtable, it doesn't mean that that's what the audience is about."

The producer and rapper likened the project to a chick flick geared toward a certain type of woman but ropes in other fans as well.

"The audience for [the album] is just like any other film," Pharrell said. "Like a Sandra Bullock film. The concept may be geared toward a chick-based theme, but of course those audiences are not 100 percent women. There's just all kinds of human beings who just wanna be entertained by that particular story. That's the concept here. This album is meant and intended to inspire humans. Man, woman, whatever you are. If you can find something positive in here that motivates you, then this album is for you."

Chad Hugo chimed in as well, joking that fans can enjoy Nothing "even if you're not human" and adding that the album's appeal extends to "cats and dogs" too.

The fellas revealed that they pushed back the album but also gave up a few details about their new single. While they didn't reveal the title, they did hint that the track will feature a special guest and that "it's like the ultimate party song."

Shay Haley said the track is inspired by a hard-partying night in Europe. "We were in Monaco, and we were looking around, and we were just seeing how people were having a great time and you couldn't tell them sh--. It was like 5 in the morning, and you would have thought it was like 1," Shay said. "People were partying just as hard, so we were like, 'Whoa.' "

Who do you think might make an appearance on N.E.R.D.'s next single? Let us know in the comments below!

The Situation Recalls His Pre-'Jersey Shore' Pranks On 'When I Was 17'

Anyone who has watched MTV's "Jersey Shore" knows that Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is a born prankster. In one episode alone, He of the Mighty Abs stashed a slew of pickles under Snooki's bed -- "I figured she'd love the nice aroma of sliced dirty pickles," he laughed -- and mixed up a nasty stink bomb of pickle juice, milk, grated cheese, mayonnaise and salad dressing to hide in his pal Vinny's room.

Turns out that the Situation has been working almost as hard on his tan as he has on his elaborate hoaxes, as the reality star reveals on the upcoming episode of MTV's "When I Was 17."

"Back when I was 17, I decided to pull a senior prank," he says on the show, airing Saturday at 11 a.m. "I was going to do it bigger than the seniors the year before, the year before that and even before their grandpappy."

For this prank, Sitch ditched the pickles and embraced some of the animal kingdom's least desirable creatures. "I decided to organize a couple of my closest buddies that I could trust," he explained.

They cut class and headed off to the local pet store, where they purchased a boxful of mice. Back at school, they bided their time until lunch period. "At noon, it was time for everybody to let their mouses out into the lunchroom," the Situation said.

The mice, predictably, ran every which way through the cafeteria as students jumped up on chairs and teachers scrambled to figure out what was going on.

"People were screaming," he laughed. "There was mices everywhere. It was insane. Mayhem!"

"When I Was 17" -- this week featuring "Jersey Shore" stars the Situation, JWoww and Pauly D -- airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.

Demi Lovato Wants To Embrace Her 'Inner Soul' Diva On Next Album

Last year, Demi Lovato released her pop/rock sophomore album, Here We Go Again, and now Lovato is, well, at it again. She's back in the studio, but unlike her first two efforts, this one will sound a little less hardcore, as Demi embraces her inner-R&B diva.

"I'm really excited for working on new music in the spare time that I have before I go out on tour with the Jonas Brothers," she told MTV News on Monday in Los Angeles at the VH1 Do Something Awards.

"I'm working on new music, writing new songs, trying to approach a different route, doing a new sound," Lovato continued. "I'm really excited. It'll be fun. It's more R&B/pop. I'm trying to bring out my inner 'soul'; a new side of Demi," she laughed. "I'm straying away from the rock this time."

If Lovato's enthusiasm about working on her next project wasn't obvious already, her Twitter posts make it clear. A lot of her recent tweets have been updates about working on that new album or just gigging around with friends.

"I'm literally in love with music. Everything I do in life is for music. If I could, I would marry music," she wrote over the weekend. "Gathered around with friends playing music.. I live and breathe for these moments in my life.

"Yes!!! Finished writing a song that I'm so proud to call my own!! It's moments like these that make me never want to stop writing music.. :D," Lovato tweeted just days before. "Writing a song that I think my South American fans will love.... ;) this ones for you guys.... Just got the rough cut of the song we did yesterday... soooo excited right now!"

Although it'll be some time before fans actually get to hear these new songs, they can check out Lovato on her Disney Channel series "Sonny With a Chance." Earlier this year, she teased some of what to expect during the rest of the season.

"I think surprises will include guest stars, really awesome guest stars," she told MTV News. "And also the romance between Sterling Knight's character and Sonny. There's definitely a romance factor, but it's interesting because they play on rival shows and the casts aren't really fond of each other. So, you see what happens."

Taio Cruz was not exaggerating when he told MTV News the video for his hit single "Dynamite" would "represent" with massive fireworks. The British pop star turns the heat up — way up.

Like the vid for his chart-topping "Break Your Heart," Cruz's second clip, which premiered Wednesday (July 21) on MTV.com, gives plenty of screen time to beautiful ladies, who look hot (both literally and figuratively). The opening scene shows them welding in a dusty mechanic shop, repairing wrecked cars. Suddenly, Cruz rides in on a sparkling white BMW superbike, rescuing the women from their work.

"I've done race cars and speedboats. For this one, I wanted to do things on a bike," Cruz told MTV News about his mode of transportation during filming.

Cruz does spin his wheels, but only, of course, after he marches through the repair lot, flanked by leather-clad ladies, and starting what looks to be an impromptu dance party. The video has a definite sunny SoCal vibe, with its wardrobe of cutoff jean shorts and Ray-Bans. And in addition to the dozens of lady extras, Cruz said he was almost overwhelmed by the numerous props.

"I've never done a video that has this many props in it," Cruz said. "We've got the most amazing, wrecked cars. There's even a massive truck that was used in the movie 'Universal Soldier.' "

Toward the end of the video, the sun sets and the British pop star gives an impromptu concert of sorts with the lady mechanics as his audience. Soon, an enormous, fiery explosion goes off behind the star, before subsiding into a shower of sparks, which, according to Cruz, is the perfect backdrop for the subtext of his song.

"The song 'Dynamite' itself is about when you go to the club and when you go to a party and when you're just going out ... you got to feel like, 'I'm just gonna explode.' "

What do you think of Taio's new video? Does it do the song justice? Tell us in the comments!

When we broke the "good" news last week that Pusha T and his brother Malice might be going over to Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music, the blogs and Twitter started going ham.

"A great day for music, but it's a 'good' day," Pusha said about putting his Fear of God mixtape out September 14 — a date that has been dubbed G.O.O.D. Music Day, because it's when albums from West, Kid Cudi, Big Sean and Consequence are expected to drop. "I mean, you know, I been to Hawaii. Hawaii is a nice place. Good music is made down there, ya know? So, yeah, I was there. I can't say too much about that. I think everybody's gonna be in for a big surprise, a very big surprise."

We already know what the Clipse and Kanye sound like together: "Kinda Like a Big Deal" was a heralded banger, and the Brothers Thornton threw barbed-wire lines all over the beat from "Swagga Like Us" on their Road to Till the Casket Drops mixtape.

Well, on Monday, it just so happened that N.E.R.D. performed right on the 24th floor in the MTV building (#PerksOf1515). After the show, we asked Pharrell Williams — who is the Clipse's most frequent producer and hometown friend — whether his VA brethren linking up with West would work. Skateboard P gave a resounding co-sign.

"I think that's gonna be amazing," Pharrell said. "[Pusha] had been working with 'Ye. I told him, 'You should do that.' We made a lot of great records together, and we'll continue to make great records. I want him to grow and get other experiences out in the world. He's gotta figure that out. He's gotta go out there and see it. Make no mistake, lyrically, that kid is one of the greats — him and his brother. Lyrically, those guys are really serious. They're well-respected by all of the good dudes. Jay-Z loves them, T.I., Jeezy loves them. All of your favorite rappers, they appreciate a Pusha line or a Malice line. They do. I'm saying with respect for all those artists — I work with those artists. I know the conversations we had. They like what they do. It's been a long time coming for Pusha and what it is he's trying to do. He's gonna get it. And Malice too."

When "Ramona and Beezus" opens Friday, moviegoers might be wondering how much Selena Gomez and Joey King are like their onscreen personalities. And, as it turns out, there's a bit of Ramona and Beezus in both of them.

"I'm not really comfortable in my skin as much as Beezus is, but I do try to do my best in school," Gomez told MTV News about her character in the film, which also stars "Sex and the City" alumni Bridget Moynahan and John Corbett.

"I have a huge imagination, like Ramona, [and] a big personality, but there's some similarities and some differences between me and Ramona as well," 10-year-old King added.

Gomez has said that King became like a real-life sister to her during filming. "Even when they stopped, when they would say 'cut,' we would still just be as loud and talking. We all got along really well," Gomez said about how "inseparable" she's become with King. "Pretty much, we talk all the time. She's like my sister, and I never had a sibling, so she's as close as I've got."

So does that make Gomez the real-life Beezus to King's Ramona, based on the characters from the beloved Beverly Cleary books? "She's still the Ramona," Gomez said. "I go to her for advice, if anything."

"We both have different traits from each character," King said. "She's like Ramona in some ways and same for me."

Viewers already got a glimpse of the coming insanity when the first 13 minutes of season two premiered during the MTV Movie Awards. The sneak peek took us along as the Jersey kids made a trip Down South to Miami.

The trailer that arrived last month gave us a better idea of what to expect, with the Situation and his boys fist-pumping in a strobe-light-filled club, Snooki and JWoww doing the robot in their private booth and Ronnie in a hot tub filled with scantily clad ladies. Punches were thrown, curses were unleashed — and what the heck was Snooki doing wearing a floppy sombrero on her head?

Lindsay Lohan Expected To Serve Only 14 Days Of 90-Day Jail Term

Actress' projected release date is August 1 or 2.
By Jayson Rodriguez

Photo: L.A. County Sheriff's Department

A Beverly Hills judge was adamant that Lindsay Lohan serve jail time for violating her probation, ordering the actress to 90 days behind bars and 90 days in an inpatient rehab facility earlier this month. "It's like someone who cheats but doesn't think it's cheating if they don't get caught," Judge Marsha Revel said about the troubled star's behavior at the time.

On Tuesday (July 20), only hours after Lohan turned herself in to begin her sentence, it was reported that her bid would be reduced to a possible 14 days due to prison overcrowding.

According to the Los Angeles Times, a spokesman in the Sheriff's Department confirmed that the former Disney star has a projected release date of August 1 or 2.

Because Lohan is a nonviolent offender, she is eligible to serve only 25 percent of her already reduced time of 51 days, which was brought down from 90 days because of overcrowding, Steve Whitmore told the Times.

Lohan changed lawyers after her sentencing, and new attorney Robert Shapiro, who represented O.J. Simpson during his 1994 murder trial, reportedly said he would push for his client to be placed in rehab instead of prison. When it became clear the actress would have to serve jail time, though, she returned to her original lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, who accompanied Lohan to court Tuesday morning, where the "Mean Girls" star turned herself in.

Taylor Swift Reveals Next Album, Speak Now, Is Due October 25

During a live chat Tuesday (July 20), fans were treated to some surprising news when Taylor Swift revealed that her new album, Speak Now, would be hitting stores October 25. The songstress also spoke about the album's first single, "Mine," shooting a video for the new song and how excited she is to share some of her life experiences from the past year.

"It's called Speak Now, and that pertains to the album as a concept and as an entire theme of the record more than I can even tell you," Swift said during the Ustream chat, which eventually reached 58,000 viewers.

"I've been working on it for two years, so ever since we put out Fearless, I've been writing for this record and sort of conceptualizing it and putting it together in my head and sort of figuring out what I want it to be," she added. "I like to take a lot of time in between albums to work up the next one and see what it is."

The album, which Swift explained was written solely by her and is tentatively set to include 14 tracks, is full of firsthand experiences.

"For me, I write everything that I live, so you got to give yourself a little bit of time to live a lot of things so you can write about a lot of things, and my only option is to write about what I've been through and what I've lived, so thankfully, in the past two years, I've experienced a lot of things that I've been dying to write about and a lot of things that I wanted to say in the moment that I didn't," she explained.

"Mine," which is set to premiere in mid-August, is about Swift's "tendency to run from love."

"It's been sort of a recent tendency, and I think it's because, for me, every really direct example of love that I've had in front of me has ended in goodbye and ended in breakups and things like that," she explained. "So I think I've developed this pattern of running away when it comes time to fall in love and stay in a relationship. The song is sort of about finding the exception to that and finding someone who would make you believe in love and realize that it could work out, because I'm never ever going to go past hoping that love works out."

Later in the chat, Swift spoke about filming the video for "Mine," and while she didn't speak about the clip's concept, she did gush about the "gorgeous" location — even admitting that she'd love to live there one day.

Earlier this month, the pop star was photographed shooting a wedding scene dressed in a cream gown and arm-in-arm with her groom. She was later spotted kissing the groom while boating on a lake in another scene.

The singer spoke about a song called "Sparks Fly" that she's performed on very few occasions, confirming that it will be included on the forthcoming album. "I played that song at one or two shows, and you guys really jumped on it and made it something I had to put on the album, because you guys really showed interest in it."

Aside from moving into her very own place, Swift told fans that she plans to tour after she releases the album.

Back in May, the singer told MTV News that she was well under way with the project, citing "boys and love" as the album's main inspirations. "I've been writing it for the last two years, so this summer it's all about the finishing touches and getting in there in the studio and recording the last couple songs," she said.

Lil Wayne Blogs About LeBron James Joining The Miami Heat

Lil Wayne's yearlong bid at Rikers hasn't dulled the superstar MC's love of sports. In a letter to fans posted last week on his website, WeezyThanxYou.com, Wayne revealed that he keeps up with ESPN as part of his daily routine. Now, like millions of basketball fans, LeBron James' move to the Miami Heat has excited the incarcerated rapper.

"Oh LeBron! The recent move by the Miami Heat confirms that we will someday soon have that good ole basketball back," Wayne wrote in a blog posted Tuesday (July 20) titled "The Tricks of the Trade."

With the Heat's newly acquired superstar talent, Weezy wrote that he expects the team to bring fire to the court.

"I believe that this Miami team will be explosive as intended," Wayne continued. "Anything less than an NBA championship title will be uncivilized."

The MC also described some ways the Florida team might work the court: "Well with [Dwyane] Wade at the 1 and LeBron at the 2 or vice versa even, or Mario Chalmers at the 1, Wade at the 2, and Bron at the 3 ... Wow! Not to mention that I didn't mention [Chris] Bosh, who can live at the 4 or 5. Zone defense will be a must against this team," Weezy wrote. "That's 3 players on the court that commands a double team. Just imagine those guys on a fast break, the defender back [pedaling] ... Wade can take it to the hole or throw it up and you know Bron. Bron is going to get it ... or dish it back to a trailing Chris Bosh who will definitely finish at the rim ... again, wow!"

The Young Money star also analyzed a potential face-off between the Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers for the NBA championship. "Hey, what if [former Lakers coach and current Heat President] Pat Riley returns to the sidelines and it ends up being the Lakers vs. Heat in the finals? Riley vs. [current Lakers coach Phil] Jackson! Epic! [Pau] Gasol on [Chris] Bosh, Ron-Ron [Artest] on Bron-Bron, and Kobe [Bryant] on Wade ... wow!"

In addition to following LeBron's power moves, the rapper has apparently been keeping tabs on the NBA as a whole and examined the strengths and weaknesses of other teams in the league. "Also, beware of the [Chicago] Bulls. [Carlos] Boozer will fit in well because they're similar to Utah [Jazz] in many ways. A nice guard surrounded by the shooters," Weezy wrote. "The Bulls led the league in the rebounds last season and I'm sure they will again with Boozer and [Joakim] Noah."

The MC also dished on the potential performance of the New York Knicks and the Orlando Magic. "If they can stay healthy, then expect [Amar'e Stoudemire] and [Anthony] Randolph to be beasts in the paint," Wayne wrote, adding, "I'm not sure about Orlando in the East this upcoming season. I mean [Chris] Duhon isn't exactly a good move but it has potential."

The post suggests that in addition to reclaiming his spot in the hip-hop game, the star is also looking forward to a stirring b-ball season. "I can't wait to see how teams stack up next season when those other big name players hit the market," Wayne wrote, capping off the post simply with, "Good ole basketball."

Drake Gets 'Fancy' With T.I. And Swizz Beatz On Video Set

Drake's upcoming "Fancy" video features a couple of stars known for cranking out hard-hitting hip-hop, but this time, the Toronto MC enlisted T.I. and Swizz Beatz to craft a sexy ode to the ladies.

"It's a dedication to the ladies who take pride in being the flyest and finest that there are out there to be noticed," T.I. told MTV News on the set of the sleek clip, which reflects the song's sultry vibe. The video features Drizzy, Tip and Swizz in all-black everything, spitting suave lyrics and flanked by leggy dancers in formfitting bodysuits.

In his cool Atlanta drawl, T.I. chatted about participating in the collabo and sang the praises of Drake and Swizzy. "I was offered the opportunity and given the pleasure to be a part of this monstrosity of a record by young Drizzy and my big homie O.G., player, partner Swizz Bizzy," Tip said. "I'm honored, privileged and absolutely pleased to be a part of this extravaganza that you are witnessing before you here today."

Anthony Mandler, who has helmed all the clips from Drizzy's Thank Me Later, said the singer/MC's approach to his work influences how the director develops the accompanying visuals. "For me, there's a lot of pressure, because I feel like he's creating music from a place that's so pure and so unique and so original that it pushes me to try to create imagery that stands in the same zone," Mandler said.

Drake also lavished Mandler with respect and said his work with the director has changed his perspective when it comes to making videos. "As far as me evolving as a visual artist, I started in a place where visuals weren't my strongest aspect. Me and Anthony shot 'Over' together, and for the first time, I really felt like, 'This is how I'm supposed to look,' " Drake said. "From there, it's sorta been like an inseparable bond."

Rick Ross On Keeping Number Of Songs On Teflon Don To A Minimum

Posted: 20 Jul 2010 03:15 AM PDT

'Let's trim the fat off a little bit and give them some rich street music,' Ross says of the album, which was released today.
By Shaheem Reid

Rick Ross had a very clear and concise idea of what he wanted to do with his LP Teflon Don. He was inspired in part by some of the all-time classic albums he's loved throughout his life — Nas' Illmatic, Bobby Brown's Don't Be Cruel, Michael Jackson's Thriller. Each of those albums kept its track listing at fewer than a dozen songs, but every one of those songs was timeless.

When he was done recording Teflon several weeks ago, Ross brought the idea of only having 11 songs on his LP to Island/Def Jam Chairman L.A. Reid.

"He was like, 'It's gotta be the right 11 records if it's gonna be 11 records,' " Ross recalled. "I said, 'That's exactly why I'm doing it. It's only a few artists that for one, would take that chance when it's common to do 15, 16. We all know that you don't like the 15, 16, 17. You really like the dope eight or the dope five. Or dope seven.' I said, 'Let's trim the fat off a little bit and give them some rich street music.' "

Teflon Don was released Tuesday (July 20), but Ross has been getting a plethora of acclaim since it leaked about a week ago. Songs from the LP that surfaced earlier than that, such as "Tears of Joy," "Aston Martin Music" and "Maybach Music III," have also been widely embraced. None has been talked about more than his collaboration with Jay-Z, "Free Mason." Young Hov tackles the rumors of his allegiance to the Illuminati and Satan, authoring a strong candidate for verse of the year.

"I know if I'm on a record with Jay-Z, not only are my rhymes gonna be on point, not only is the flow gonna be intact, but the way I say the words ... The title of the record, the meaning of the record, is the title big enough for the expectations of this collaboration? A lot of people were like, 'Wow, that's what you gonna title the record?' I'm like, 'Why not?' That's what hip-hop's about. Let's get to the point. It's so much speculation, so many whispers coming out of the sewers. Why not do a record and call it 'Free Mason' and we do what we do on it and they'll know when they hear it. The title may throw them off, but it's a good thing. They gotta hear it, and when they listen to it, everything that's running through their minds, it'll be answered. That was the whole idea when I brought it to [Jay]."

Ross traveled with Jay on some dates on the Blueprint 3 tour several months ago and presented Hov with almost the complete package in hopes of securing a collaboration.

"I knew the way to get that was to bring him the idea, my verse, everything, the whole picture in front of him," the Bawse said. "He was listening to my verse. I said one particular word and when he heard the words 'free mason' — at that point we hadn't titled it — but when he heard it ... I saw his facial expression, like, 'Yeah. I been meaning to [address this].' When I backed the beat up, he came in and he was so direct.

" 'N---as couldn't do nothing with me, so they put the devil on me. ...' I felt it because it's like when you are that great, and you're so successful, some people just can't imagine that. It's reality. It's real, people! He was straight to the point, like, 'Damn. That's what you gotta say to bring me down now? I'm so successful that you almost gotta credit the devil for this success.' When you think about it, it's really sad for the people that think that way. So it was like, 'Wow.' I was just happy I had the cojones to come with that idea and say 'This what it is homie.' Soon as he heard it, he was like, boom, let's go in. He got straight to the point and did it in the greatest of ways."

Lindsay Lohan's Father, Friends Protest Jail Time On 'Larry King Live'

'I don't think jail is going to change her; I think she needs to change herself,' one pal says.

Lindsay Lohan was checked into jail Tuesday (July 20) for the second time in her 24 years, but though her sentence is likely to be shortened from 90 days to 14, there are many close to her who are arguing that time behind bars is not what she needs right now.

Her father, Michael Lohan, and his attorney Lisa Bloom, as well as Lindsay's photographer friends Indrani Pal-Chaudhuri and Marcus Klinko, went on CNN's "Larry King Live" Tuesday night to argue their case, marking Michael's second time on the show to talk about his daughter's probation violation.

As far as the shortened sentence, Bloom said the move was due to overcrowding in Los Angeles prisons, not because of special treatment for Lohan. She said 50,000 people were relieved of their sentences early in L.A. prisons due to overcrowding, and she felt that the young celebrity was actually worse off than other inmates because she would be left alone for 23 hours a day.

An attorney could have filed an appeal on Lohan's behalf to move for her to be forced to attend rehab before her jail time instead of after, Bloom said, a move that she and Lohan's father both supported. Since Lohan is estranged from her father, Bloom had been reaching out on Michael's behalf to encourage her to attend her court-ordered rehab, but Lohan ignored it. "This is Michael Lohan's life: fighting for his daughter," Bloom said of his devotion to supporting Lindsay.

"The Insider" correspondent Chris Jacobs described the situation Lohan would be facing in jail, saying she would be well-fed, with a dinner tonight of turkey, pasta, applesauce and milk, but she will be without cigarettes, makeup and accessories and access to the Internet. Bloom reluctantly added that Lohan would still be provided some prescription drugs in prison but in limited quantities, which, in her words, "is an improvement."

"Jail helped because I wanted it to help," Michael said about his experience behind bars. "But then again, I went into jail, Larry, because I wanted to be sober." He added: "She's got to get off prescription drugs."

He said he is optimistic for his daughter, because she is court-ordered to attend rehab after she gets out of jail but is pessimistic about the issues she is sure to have after she is released because of her time in prison. However, Pal-Chaudhuri and Klinko think Lohan's bigger problem is who she is surrounded by in her personal life. Klinko said he feels Lohan doesn't need jail, but needs rehab and someone she can trust.

"What she needs is to have some time away from the cameras, from people following her," Pal-Chaudhuri said. "But I really think that Lindsay needs to figure out what she needs to do for herself."

She added that no one is interested in what Lohan thinks is good for her: "I don't think jail is going to change her; I think she needs to change herself," Pal-Chaudhuri said.

Ke$ha Talks Touring With Rihanna: 'We Braid Each Other's Hair ... Naked'

'I'm kind of just, like, her hype girl,' opening act tells MTV News of Rihanna.

We're rather mystified by reports that Rihanna's Last Girl on Earth Tour has been struggling to sell tickets. After all, from what Ke$ha tells us, it sounds like the can't-miss show of the summer.

"We have slumber parties and pillow fights and we braid each other's hair a lot," Ke$ha laughed. "We talk about boys, naked."

We'd pay $91.75 to see that. And while we suspect that Ke$ha — who, along with Travie McCoy, has been serving as the opening act on the Last Girl jaunt — was only kidding about those backstage shenanigans, she has been having a blast on the tour. She said that sharing the stage with Rihanna has been a highlight of her still-young career.

"Touring with Rihanna is incredible, you should come see it. It's really fun. I've been out with her for about two weeks now, and I just learn so much from her as a performer," she said. "She has one of the best voices of anyone I've ever seen live, and I kind of just take it as my opportunity to hype up thousands of people."

And though her duties as opener — and hair braider — are rather taxing, Ke$ha is also using days off from the tour to play headlining shows of her own. Because she's still got plenty of energy left in the tank, even after she's spent the whole night hyping the crowd ... and having pillow fights.

"It's epic. She's amazing live and her voice is just so good," Ke$ha smiled. "I'm kind of just, like, her hype girl. I take the stage and hype it up for 40 minutes."

Busta Rhymes: Nicki Minaj 'Stands Alone' Among 'Hottest Breakthrough MCs Of 2010' Finalists

With a bunch of memorable features already under her belt, a BET Award for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist and a surprise #1 hit with "Your Love", Nicki Minaj is reveling in her status as the queen of the hitmaking Young Money crew. Now, as a top-five finalist for "Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010," Minaj is proving she's truly unstoppable this year.

For many of her fans, including fellow animated New York MC Busta Rhymes, there's not much more Nicki can do to secure her position as one of the hottest rappers around.

"I think she's already doing everything that it takes to get to the next level. She's standing alone — there is no two Nicki Minajs right now," Busta told MTV News.

Bussa Bus credits the Young Money Barbie's success to "her diversity, as far as what she's able to display style-wise." Busta explained that a lot of rappers can become stagnant when it comes to their style, an occupational hazard he hasn't seen Nicki fall victim to yet.

"A lot of the times we get stuck into these characters where we kind of become slaves to those characters; we sound a particular kind of a way all of the time," he explained. "I'm never saying that it's not a good thing. We should always trademark certain things about us so that people can identify with it off the top. But it's always good to be able to show people how diversified you are and what you're capable of outside your comfort zone," Busta said. "It feels like she ain't got no problem displaying that."

And while many Nicki fans would agree that Minaj has the music game on lock, Busta said that the star should try to shut down Hollywood as well.

"I probably think the one thing she need to do that she ain't did yet was show up in a couple of these movies," Busta said, adding, "and it's a wrap. She get a couple of these movies and steal the scenes that she's in the same way she do it on these records, she going to put the nail in the coffin with that."

MTV News will be rolling out the top-five candidates for "Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010" all week — with the winner being revealed on MTV2's "Sucker Free Summit" on Sunday at noon!

During a season that finds the Biebs, the cast of "Glee" and Gaga all on the road, concertgoers have plenty of choices when it comes to catching live music this summer. And for Jonas Brothers fans, the selection is only going to get sweeter when the band kicks off its tour on August 7 in Tinley Park, Illinois. We recently caught up with one-third of the JoBros, Joe Jonas, on the set of TV Land's "Hot in Cleveland," where he'll guest as Valerie Bertinelli's son on the August 11 episode of the sitcom. MTV News pressed him about what surprises or special guests to expect when they come to town.

"We're looking really forward to it," Joe said of their 35-plus concert dates, spanning North and South America. "I'm excited to get onstage again and perform, get ramped up with that again."

The always-media-savvy middle Jonas didn't want to reveal specifics, but teased some good details.

"We're going to be bringing a lot of our friends from 'Camp Rock' on tour, which will be fun," he said of featuring pals from the JoBros' Disney channel flicks. "And also, there might be a couple [surprise guests] here and there; artists that might pop in, but we haven't really said anything too much yet," Jonas added.

According to the band's official website, current tour guests include Jonas' ex-girlfriend, Demi Lovato, along with a bevy of Disney favorites: Alyson Stoner, Matthew "Mdot" Finley, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, Roshon Fegan and Jordan Francis.

"I think they'll just [be a] surprise and come onstage," he explained of the yet-unnamed performers. "We have a lot of buddies in the music industry that just kind of are always around hanging out onstage. We'll call them up, and they'll maybe play a song with us or something like that."

In addition to performing songs from their albums, like 2009's Lines, Vines and Trying Times, fans can probably expect the guys to sing songs from the upcoming Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, album, which might in turn mean a possible (awkward?) duet by exes Joe and Demi of their "Wouldn't Change a Thing." (The track leaked online last week.)

What songs do you most want to hear the JoBros perform live? Tell us in the comments!
