Game Talks Beanie Sigel Verse, Insists He Didn't Dis Drake

The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive
For the most part, you will never get an MC to admit that he did a song with another spitter, and that spitter's rhymes were so ferocious he had to go back to the drawing board to pen another verse. But Game doesn't care. His pedigree as a lyricist is well-documented, so when he spoke to about a posse cut on his August 24 LP The R.E.D. Album, he had no problem giving major props to one of his co-stars.

"Me, Rick Ross and Beanie Sigel on a track called 'Heavy Artillery,' " Compton's lyrical barbarian revealed. "I'm definitely a fan of Beans. I did my verse first, sent it to them. Ross came back, and I was still comfortable with my verse. Beans came back — rewrite! [I had to] rewrite [my verse]. Sent [the track] back to Ross. Ross heard Beans: rewrite. Now we got what we need. Now everybody is on the same playing field. Beans, he sounds like he's hungry, like he ain't have his hair braided in six years and he ain't ate in 10."

Last week, Game invited another of his peers — another MC known to be formidable in the booth — to appear on his LP. None other than Drake turns up on a Cool & Dre-produced record called "Good Girl, Bad Girl." Queen Latifah also dropped by the lab to show love. Game also gives the 23-year-old Canadian an abstract elsewhere on the album.

"'While you mutha----as waiting on Toronto/ I'm in the hood with Poncho/ Stackin' Rajon Rondo," Game said, reciting a line from a yet-untitled song off R.E.D.

Game insisted it wasn't a jab at Drake ("Ain't no disses on the album"), but also said it's not his fault if people take it as one.

"You could [interpret any way]. But it's your music. You buy it," he rationalized. "You take what you want from it. I can't be there to sanction and tell everybody, 'You shouldn't take it that way.' You take it how you want to."

Kris Allen Offers Post-'American Idol' Advice To Lee DeWyze

'Be humble, but get involved too,' Allen tells the season-nine winner.

Once Lee DeWyze took home the "American Idol" crown this past season, Kris Allen was no longer the reigning ruler of the "Idol" kingdom — and he's completely fine with that.

"It really hasn't crossed my mind at all [about what sorts of pressures I'm feeling now]. Maybe this is more of a product of being on my own tour and all that stuff that I feel like it's a little bit separate now from 'American Idol,' which is a good thing," he told MTV News during a recent chat.

But don't think Allen doesn't have gratitude for the show that made him a household name. "Obviously, I owe a lot to the show, but the people who have made it successfully off the show have to separate themselves," he explained. "So I think that's happening, and that's a good thing, and now Lee has taken the reins."

Allen has been out of the "Idol" loop for quite some time now, but he very vividly remembers the months after winning the show. And he has some sage advice for the newbie.

"I feel like I learned so much during that recording process, but yet I still didn't know a lot," he recalled. "I would just say, ask a lot of questions, especially of those producers and all of those people that you work with. Just ask a lot of questions and figure out stuff, because I feel like I would just sit there and be like, 'OK, you're awesome.' You know? Be humble, but get involved too."

"Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010" Candidate: Donnis

Donnis sticks out like a sore thumb when you compare him to others in the Atlanta rap scene. In fact, with outlandish, oversize personalities like Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame and Young Jeezy, he probably has a tough time getting noticed. But the young ATLien is paving his own lane.

When Donnis released his first mixtape, Diary of an ATL Brave, last year, more and more fans took notice. The mixtape's "everyman rap" helped him land a spot in XXL's 2010 Freshmen 10 issue.

Donnis recently released his latest mixtape, Fashionably Late, which he said was a whole different experience. When MTV News caught up with Donnis at the photo shoot for T.I.'s clothing line, Akoo, he said he was a lot more comfortable this time around.

"The last one [Diary of an ATL Brave], I was at my mom's crib, trying to get it in, sleeping on the floor in Brooklyn, and I ain't, like, super great now, but it's a lot more comfortable," Donnis explained.

"I think [there's] a lot more confidence when you get co-signs from people like [Jason Jeter] and Tip and Needles and Killer Mike calling your phone. It's some of your idols," he added. "When they telling you good job, and XXL giving you an XL on your first time out, it gives you a little confidence."

Despite the high praise and acknowledgement, Donnis said he's still hungry. He also said he's planning to work with some of his fellow up-and-coming MCs. He's good friends with Pill and Freddie Gibbs, and they plan to collaborate. He's had discussions with Jay Rock and even Wiz Khalifa about doing a remix of his song "Gone."

Donnis and 19 other up-and-coming MCs are in the running to become MTV News' "Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010" — and the winner will be decided by you!

Kanye West continues his furious comeback, this time with a guest turn on Rick Ross' "Live Fast," a track from the Miami rapper's upcoming Teflon Don album. West delivers a super-boastful verse, matching the tone and aggression he rapped with on his most recent number, "Power."

"I'm back by unpopular demand/ Least you still poppin' in Japan," 'Ye raps over staccato-paced drums. "Shopping in Milan, hopping out the van/ Screams from the fans: 'Yeezy, we always knew you'd be on top again!' "

A snippet of the track was first made available on Thursday (July 1) — before the entire song leaked later in the day — through a preview of Ross-go-to-director Spiff TV's Teflon Don: The Bossumentary. Spiff TV is the man behind many of Rozay's viral Web videos.

In the preview clip, West discusses working with Ross, pointing to a number of similarities between him and his Def Jam labelmate.

"I just remember Ross had so many verses," West said. "When I started hearing the records come out, I always felt a connection, 'cause I felt like we came from similar places and we paid so many dues. We all had ups and downs in our lives and sh--. And now, this is the highest caliber you can get to, you know what it is. And it didn't happen overnight, it's 10, 15, 20 years in the making."

In addition to West, Ross recently announced he recruited T.I. to appear on Teflon Don's "Maybach Music 3."

"I had to do it real big with someone I never collaborated with before: Tip," Ross told "Sucker Free" host DJ Envy of T.I. "We got a full orchestra, a live orchestra from the strings on down. It's gonna be a masterpiece."

You've heard Kanye's "Power," and now "Live Fast." Can we call it a comeback? Sound off in the comments!

'Eclipse' At The Box Office: What Does The Future Hold?

While it's breaking records left and right, box-office analyst Jeff Bock says it could 'drop like a rock' after debut weekend.
By Josh Wigler

After less than two full days in theaters, "Eclipse" has already earned three major records: the widest domestic release of all time, the greatest-ever midnight opening at $30 million and the best Wednesday debut in Hollywood history with $68.5 million. Despite these successes, "Eclipse" wasn't able to beat "New Moon," the latest "Twilight" sequel's immediate predecessor, for single-best opening day.

" 'Eclipse' is draining opening-day box-office records with a fervor we haven't seen since, well, 'New Moon,' " Exhibitor Relations box-office analyst Jeff Bock told MTV News. "If it would have been released on a Friday versus a Wednesday, it would likely hold the top one-day gross of all time."

Just shy of that record by less than $4 million, "Eclipse" is nonetheless on track to earn a whole lot of cash in its opening weekend and beyond — though it's not without some obstacles, including its predominantly female audience.

"What will be most interesting to see is whether or not Summit Entertainment can 'expand the brand,' and by that I mean cross over to the male demographic," said Bock, who noted that the opening-weekend audience for "New Moon" was nearly 80 percent female. "If they can establish a more male presence with the threequel, we could be looking at a weekend gross that works its way towards $100 million. However, if this plays out like 'New Moon,' we will be seeing a weekend gross of around $75 million."

Even if "Eclipse" manages to eclipse its predecessor by the end of the holiday weekend, Bock believes that the summer's biggest blockbuster may have already arrived in the form of "Toy Story 3."

"['Toy Story 3'] is already at $251 million, heading into a very family-friendly weekend," he said of Pixar's latest effort. "If 'The Last Airbender' doesn't show well, it will be a gravy train again for Woody and Buzz."

Bock expects that the only movie that could stand in the path of "Toy Story 3" isn't "Eclipse," but Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The Leonardo DiCaprio-starring action thriller hits theaters July 16 and has the potential to stay on top of the box office for several weeks.

"With the 'Matrix'-like visuals and secrecy [surrounding] the plot, it is the last, great hope for a summer blockbuster," Bock said. "There is no doubt adults and kids will flock to it, and if turns out to be genius, then look for it to hog the box-office pot from here to Labor Day."

With "Toy Story 3" and "Inception" in contention, "Eclipse" might not lord over the box office all summer long — but the film is virtually guaranteed to do extraordinarily well this coming weekend at the very least.

"We're more than likely looking at $175 million through Sunday and around $200 million for the holiday, including Monday," Bock said. "While that is an extraordinary sum, the film, like its predecessors, will drop like a rock, probably ending its haul with around $325 million. However, worldwide, we may be talking about $1 billion — so there's that."

By Jayson Rodriguez

Drake announced on Thursday (July 1) that he'll postpone the European leg of his Away From Home Tour, set to begin Friday, to tend to his ailing mother, who has been battling an arthritic condition and an illness that affects her entire body, often leaving her unusually fatigued.

The rapper released a statement explaining the last-minute decision to his fans.

"Despite my best hopes, it is apparent that my mother will need surgery earlier than anticipated," Drake said. "In light of this news, I have made the difficult decision to cancel my European tour in order to support her during her recovery, just as she supported me through the years. I cannot thank my European fans enough and look forward to performing abroad soon. I ask everyone to please respect my family's privacy during this time."

The Toronto lyricist has postponed shows in Paris, Amsterdam and London; the shows will be rescheduled for November 2010. A number of his European appearances, however, were festival appearances that Drake will no longer make. The So Far Gone star will resume his tour on July 16 for the Canadian leg, which includes dates in Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver.

In the MTV documentary "Drake: Better Than Good Enough," the rapper opens up, abeit briefly, about his mother's illness.

"My mom is sick," he says in one scene. "So that scares me a lot. She's been the most supportive person I've ever had in my life — the only person that loves me unconditionally, really. I know a lot of people love me and I love a lot of people. But to love somebody unconditionally is different."

Share your well-wishes for Drake and his family in the comments.

Andrew Garfield Is The New Spider-Man

Sony has announced that the relative unknown will play Peter Parker in the upcoming 'Spider-Man' reboot.
By Josh Wigler

Spider-Man's secret identity is no longer a secret: Andrew Garfield is officially the new man under the superhero's mask.

Sony Pictures has announced that Garfield ("The Social Network," "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus") will portray Peter Parker in director Marc Webb's forthcoming "Spider-Man" reboot. Based on a screenplay written by James Vanderbilt, the new "Spider-Man" film is said to bring the web-slinging hero back to his high school roots, meaning that the 27-year-old Garfield will need to tap into his inner teenage angst for the comic book role.

"Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor's work understand his extraordinary talents," Webb said of Garfield's casting. "He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker."

In a joint statement, Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal and President of Columbia Pictures Matt Tolmach said: "Spider-Man is a classic superhero — a young man who balances his responsibility to serve humanity and crush evil with the shyness and normalcy of someone struggling to find himself. The role demands an extraordinary actor. You need someone who can magically transform himself from Peter Parker into Spider-Man. An actor who will depict the vulnerability of youth and the strength and confidence of a legendary figure at the same moment. We have found that actor in Andrew Garfield. From the first time we saw him in the upcoming film 'The Social Network,' to his glorious screen test, which floored all of us, we knew that we had found our new Peter Parker."

"I'm incredibly excited about Andrew Garfield," added producer Avi Arad. "In the Spider-Man tradition, we were looking for a smart, sensitive, and cool new Peter Parker who can inspire us and make us laugh, cry, and cheer. We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future."

The upcoming "Spider-Man" reboot will be shot in 3-D and is scheduled to hit theaters on July 3, 2012. In winning the role of Peter Parker, Garfield beat out an extensive list of rumored candidates ranging from "Kick-Ass" star Aaron Johnson to "Journey to the Center of the Earth" actor Josh Hutcherson. Garfield succeeds outgoing star Tobey Maguire, who played the superhero in three previous Sam Raimi-directed films.

Maroon 5's 'Misery' Video: Ultra Violence, Sly Humor

'Misery' depicts frontman Adam Levine as indestructible.
By James Montgomery

Maroon 5's new "Misery" video is a gleefully over-the-top affair, full of cartoonish, wanton violence, nifty stunt work and special effects, and a whole lot of good-natured wink-wink-ery. It is satisfying on many levels, particularly if you're interested in seeing frontman Adam Levine beaten to a pulp, menaced by rocket launchers and tossed off a building into oncoming traffic.

And really, that's the whole joke here. See, there's plenty of folks out there who'd like to see Levine suffer some kind of bodily harm. After all, he's supremely handsome and cocksure. He gets all the girls. He has sold millions of albums. You can't blame folks for thinking that, on some level, he surely has this coming.

So, in "Misery" — directed by Joseph Kahn, who's made videos for the 50s, Ems and Britneys of the world — the masses get their wish. Levine is subject to all manner of brutality, dished out by a blonde beauty who's looking for (presumed) revenge. He is menaced, pummeled, pushed, pulled and very nearly blown up. He is thrown from rooftops, his fall cushioned only by the crumpled hood of a car. It's telling, however, that he suffers nary a scratch. Instead, it's his bandmates who are the victims, catching knives in the back, bouncing off speeding cars and exploding on street corners ... all of these fates, of course, meant for Levine.

And that's where the humor lies. Because "Misery" is a pretty sly comment on the nature of the good-looking frontman, the rock god, the one who gets the lion's share of the attention. Turns out, he's indestructible ... though many are out to injure him, and no matter how many messes he makes, it's the other guys who ultimately end up getting hurt, and, really, no one notices when they do. Of course, to hear Levine tell it, the video is also about "the sexual energy between two people," and maybe it is, but I'd prefer to give Levine, Kahn and the rest of M5 a bit of credit for poking fun at archetypes, for being smart and even a bit understated. As understated as a video with explosions and blood and car crashes and beautiful people can be, of course.

Lady Gaga Fans Want Nicki Minaj, Marilyn Manson Duets On Next Album

But some fans hope she flies solo: 'I want to see her work with no one but herself right now, because Gaga's Gaga.'
By James Montgomery

These days, Lady Gaga will tell anyone who will listen that her new album is 100 percent finished, but that she won't be putting it out until next year.

In fact, earlier this week at the kickoff of the North American leg of her Monster Ball Tour in Montreal, she told her "little monsters" that she's been listening to the new songs before taking the stage, and that she's simply dying to let her fans hear them. Of course, she followed that statement up by unveiling "You and I," a song that had leaked to YouTube a few days earlier, which only further whetted fans' appetites.

With so much brand-new Lady Gaga music so tantalizingly close to being released, we decided to ask LG's fans what they're expecting to hear on the album — and whom, if anyone, they would like to see their Mother Monster collaborate with on the record.

We heard a whole lot of the usual suspects — Britney Spears, Katy Perry (though we sort of doubt that will happen anytime soon), Madonna, etc. — but the fans in Montreal also had some rather, uh, less-than-traditional suggestions, some of which would be positively amazing if they ever came to fruition.

"I would like to see Marilyn Manson with her," Nicholas Vansorto said. "She has made a remix with him, but I would like to hear a song with Marilyn Manson and Lady Gaga. It would be amazing."

"Nicki Minaj!" Shareejah Daley suggested. "Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga would be crazy."

Of course, there are still those out there who think that Gaga's at her best when she's flying solo — and that's exactly what they want to hear on her new album.

"I know she's not going to work with anybody — she's not going to do any duets," Genevieve Plante said. "I would like if she would continue on the way of 'Telephone,' or 'Dance in the Dark,' 'Bad Romance,' I would love that."

"I want to see her work with no one but herself right now, because Gaga's Gaga," Danik Renaud added. "So there shouldn't be anyone [else] — other than Beyoncé, of course."

Who would you like to see Gaga team up with on her next album? Share your ideas in the comments!

Former "Real World: Boston" castmember Sean Duffy is looking to move from reality-television star to congressman.

Duffy, a conservative district attorney, is considered a strong contender to win the Republican primary in Wisconsin's Seventh Congressional District, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times. The seat is currently held by outgoing democrat David Obey. Duffy was thought of as a long shot to win, since Obey has maintained the position since his election in 1969, but the incumbent congressman announced his decision not to seek re-election in early May.

Duffy's campaign website includes the politician's stance on key issues like the economy, health care, education, national defense and agriculture. He has received endorsements from notable GOP figures including onetime vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin and former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty. When Obey was still a candidate for Congress, Palin described Duffy's campaign as an example of the "many daring Davids [taking] on entrenched Goliaths" across the United States political landscape.

"We've had 2,100 online contributions over the course of our campaign, which means we've had great support not just here in Wisconsin, but great national support," Duffy said in a video message posted to his website June 21. The Times reports that Duffy has raised $600,000 during his campaign.

Duffy has served as Ashland County's district attorney since 2002. Outside of politics, he is best known as a veteran of MTV's "The Real World: Boston." His wife, Rachel Campos-Duffy, is also a "Real World" alumnus; she appeared during the show's San Francisco-set third season, and the two met during "Road Rules: All Stars" in 1998.

Drake has not only established himself as a rising star in the music industry; he's also become a rising star in a very literal sense.

On Tuesday, Virgin America marked its first international destination from Los Angeles to Toronto with a party aboard Air Drake, an Airbus A320 named after the Canadian rapper. According to Billboard.com, Drake attended the aerial party alongside Virgin Group Founder Sir Richard Branson and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The flight made a stop in San Francisco to pick up more passengers, including dancer Cheryl Burke and actors Gregory Smith and Gilles Marini. On landing in Toronto, Drake and his fellow passengers celebrated with a red-carpet party on the airport tarmac.

"Flying on 'Air Drake' is truly humbling," the recording artist and actor said of the experience. "I'm truly honored to have a plane named after me."

The first flight of Air Drake comes less than a month after his debut, Thank Me Later, dropped on June 15, selling more than 400,000 records in its first week and reaching #1 on the Billboard albums chart. In late June, Drake was the subject of an MTV documentary titled "Drake: Better Than Good Enough," in which the up-and-coming rapper pulled the curtain back to reveal key details about his personal life.

"I have always been hesitant to share the details of my life with the world, but for the first time, I am comfortable and confident that you will love this story," Drake said of the documentary in June.

Janet Jackson Says 'I Love My Life'

'It took me a good minute to get here, it really did,' the pop star tells Essence in August cover story.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

To her fans, Janet Jackson would appear to have emerged from an especially taxing year. The pop star just marked the one-year anniversary of brother Michael's death and, last year, ended her relationship with longtime boyfriend Jermaine Dupri. But despite her personal trials, Jackson recently revealed that she's in a good place in her life.

"It took me a good minute to get here, it really did. But I love my life," Jackson tells Essence in the August issue hitting newsstands July 12. "I only wish I had this confidence when I was younger."

Although Jackson may have lacked confidence in her early years, the hitmaker maintained that she has no qualms about aging; an outlook the Jackson family matriarch, Katherine, instilled in her and her celebrity siblings.

"Mother always raised us to believe that age was just a number. All of us — my sisters, my brothers — we'll just tell you our ages because it's all about where you are mentally and how you feel about yourself."

Perhaps Jackson's attitude is also influenced by the new inroads she's making in her career. The diva has ramped up her acting work in recent months, pulling off an emotional performance in "Why Did I Get Married Too?" Jackson is also scheduled to begin shooting the star-studded "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf," helmed by Tyler Perry, and with such co-stars as Whoopi Goldberg and Kerry Washington.

The megastar also relished her overall independence. "I'm so fortunate. I'm a free agent. I'm not trapped in a contract where I'm unhappy," Jackson said. "I'm very free, and I love this feeling. I can do whatever I want."

And while Jackson may not be committing to any recording projects just yet, she isn't shying away from the stage. The singer is slated to perform at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans this weekend. Jackson will hit the stage alongside several acts, including Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige and Trey Songz.

Bun B Says 'I Was Drake'

'I was in the same predicament in terms of being a new artist,' he tells Vibe of UGK's beginnings.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

Few can understand the outsize buzz that has accompanied Drake's hotly anticipated debut, Thank Me Later. However, Houston hip-hop stalwart Bun B, who first started out with Pimp C in the influential duo UGK, said that he relates to the frenzy the Canadian MC has experienced during his rise to stardom.

"To be honest, I was Drake," Bun B told Vibe magazine. The Texas MC said he can relate to artists like Drizzy and Kid Cudi — who both leveraged their undeniable popularity as unsigned artists to score successful mainstream success — because he grappled with the same type of attention and hype from the industry while he was still grinding on the indie circuit.

"I was in the same predicament in terms of being a new artist," he said. "I was involved in a bidding war when we first came out independently. Labels were calling us and inviting us to meetings."

Bun B also told the magazine that his ability to stay relevant and uphold UGK's legacy after being in the game for years has endeared him to the younger generation of MCs. "We were able to work it out in terms of UGK's legacy and longevity. And we have inspired a lot of cats. I definitely get calls from up-and-coming artists about how to stick around for a while. I feel like some of these cats could use a little direction."

Bun also defended Drake against detractors who say the Toronto MC's blending of lyricism and crooning isn't authentic hip-hop. "I don't know what they are talking about, personally, because if you are saying that, then that means you are trying to say that people like T.J. Swan, Slick Rick and Biz Markie are not hip-hop. Come on ... all of those guys sung on their songs," Bun said. "Singing in hip-hop is nothing new. We've always had people that incorporated singing in their raps. And believe me, if MCs could sing, they wouldn't get singers to sing on their albums."

What do you think about Bun B's Drake comparison? Let us know in the comments!

Enrique Iglesias Says Duet With 'The Situation' Would Be 'Fun'

'A lot of it comes down to the song,' the singer says of collaborating with the 'Jersey Shore' star.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

It appears Enrique Iglesias and Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino have really hit it off. After the cast of MTV's "Jersey Shore" worked their fist-pumping skills in Iglesias' video for "I Like It" (also featuring Pitbull), the Latin hitmaker says he'd totally be open to a collaboration with the ab-tastic "Shore" star.

"I wouldn't mind it," Iglesias told E! Online about teaming with the Situation for a track. Sorrentino has been branching out from his gym, tanning and laundry duties, dropping a Baltimore club-influenced single called "The Situation Rap," replete with wheezing alarms and Fatman Scoop's amped-up hollers. Iglesias explained that a potential collaboration hinged on the type of track they came up with, but conceded that hooking up with Sorrentino would be a blast.

"I mean, a lot of it comes down to the song," Iglesias said. "But it would be fun!"

And the "Jersey Shore" crew definitely brings the rowdiness to Iglesias' "I Like It" video. The gelled-up, overly tanned collective concocts madcap ways to sneak into an Enrique concert, including seducing security guards and posing as roadies. The clip follows the reality-TV partyers as they lead the crowd in a rousing round of fist-pumping, with Pauly D jumping on the wheels of steel and the Sitch, of course, whipping off his shirt.

While shooting the video, Snooki told MTV News that "I Like It" captures the crew's rambunctious spirit. "When everybody sees this music video, they're pretty much gonna realize that we're a bunch of nut jobs, just trying to crash Enrique's concert."

For his part, Iglesias was down for the debauchery. "Let's go out there and have some fun," the pop star told MTV News. "It's the kids from the 'Jersey Shore.' What else would you ask for?"

Iglesias also told E! that the "Shore" kids may bring the craziness onscreen but behind the scenes, the crew kept the controversy to a minimum.

"You watch the show and you see all this drama and all these fights and you're like, 'Oh my God, all of this is going to be going on during the video!' It wasn't like that at all," Iglesias said. "Once I got to hang out with them, the guys were so nice and I'm actually a big fan now."

Even if a Situation/Iglesias collabo doesn't happen, fans can still bump some Jersey-approved tunes with the Jersey Shore Soundtrack, set for a July 20 release. The album includes "I Like It," as well as party-starting tracks by Akon, Lil Jon, LMFAO and Taio Cruz. The "Jersey Shore" season-one uncensored DVD will be available the same day.

'Last Airbender' Scene Inspired By Bruce Lee, M. Night Shyamalan Says

Director took a cue from 'Enter the Dragon' for Master Pakku fight in the film.

"The Last Airbender" has the unenviable task of proving itself to not one but two very distinct audiences. In order to find success, director M. Night Shyamalan's latest film will have to win over mainstream audiences while also earning respect from the fans of the hit Nickelodeon animated series "Avatar: The Last Airbender," on which the live-action film was based.

But according to Shyamalan, that wasn't the only source of inspiration for the film.

In an interview with MTV News this week, Shyamalan revealed that one of his favorite scenes from the film was actually an homage to a famous scene in a 1973 action classic: Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon."

"Sometimes, you just see something and you go, 'Wow, this is just working out exactly perfectly,' " Shyamalan said. "The Master Pakku fight [was like that]."

In the scene he's describing, one of the story's most talented waterbenders takes on a horde of soldiers from the enemy Fire Nation with a pair of thick ropes shaped out of water and ice. Flinging the watery tentacles around, Master Pakku (played by Francis Guinan) easily keeps the crowd of warriors at bay.

"I'd always imagined him bringing out these two tentacles and whipping people," Shyamalan explained, swinging his own arms around for reference. "For me, it was the Bruce Lee scene in 'Enter the Dragon' with the nunchucks. [Lee] was surrounded, [but] he has peripheral vision, and somebody's coming up from behind him, and he hits him with the nunchuck from behind."

And the finished product, Shyamalan said, is a more than fitting ode to Lee's famous one-on-many battle.

"I thought of the Pakku scene like that, and that turned out really well," said the filmmaker.

Kris Allen Explains 'Weird' Video Treatment For 'The Truth'

'There is a concept, kind of,' former American Idol says of the video for his next song.

Kris Allen admits that when fans listen to his duet with Train frontman Pat Monahan, "The Truth," it may come off as some sort of romantic duet. But he explained that there's another way of looking at it. And he hopes that when the video is shot, that other, less romantic take on the song is made clear.

"There is a concept, kind of. I got sent a video treatment by the same guy who did 'Live Like We're Dying' [director Marco Puig] and it sounded interesting," Allen recently told MTV News. "So I think it's gonna happen. He's really creative. I really like him [and] it's a really weird treatment. In some way [Pat will be in the video], yes. The way that he was gonna be involved was not [romantic]. It kind of made sense."

Despite what anyone might think of the song's meaning, Allen says the fans have been liking it. "We played it Atlanta the other night and people were freaking out about it. I think people really enjoy it," he explained, adding that the jury on Allen and Monahan is still out about the song's message. For instance, when the guys sing "I still keep your photographs/ I remember how we used to laugh/ I can keep on losing sleep/ If you're OK with being torn in half," could they be singing about each other?

"We were talking about this other day. I think it's more of maybe an experience thing or maybe we have dated the same girl and she did the same thing to both of us and now we're in the broken boyfriend/girlfriend club," he said.

And if fans are hoping for some new music from Allen sometime soon, Allen says he's working on it. "I am, you know, a little bit now," he revealed. "We're in the mode and we have a schedule. There's a couple things out there. I'm excited about it. I would love to bring [the band to the recording sessions] if they would like to. That would be really cool."

Kid Cudi's "Erase Me," from his forthcoming sophomore set, Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, had its premiere on Cleveland radio station 96.5 Kiss FM. The song, which debuted on Wednesday (June 30), is the second offering from the Ohio native's next collection, following the online leak last month of "REVOFEV."

"Erase Me" is an alt-rock-leaning number featuring Kanye West, who contributes a clever verse to the track.

"It's like I'm her new nightmare/ She ain't escaping," Cudi croons. "It makes me feel a bit complete, yeah/ Knowing someone you love don't feel the same way about you/ Memories, they soon delete."

West seals the breakup vibe at the end of the song with a goodbye rap. "But all good things gotta come to an end/ She let it go to her head, no not my Rhea," West spits. "The height of her shopping was writer's blocking me/ I couldn't get my sh-- out anyway, I hope you die, Rhea."

Cudi is putting the final touches on Mr. Rager. The follow-up to his debut, Man on the Moon, the second effort was originally slated to be a feature-heavy project titled Cudder. Now, the melodic rapper is pushing forward with Man On The Moon II, tentatively slated for a September 14 release to coincide with a rumored spate of albums by Kanye West's G.O.O.D Music signees, including Big Sean and Consequence; the four artists — label head Yeezy included — would all release projects on the same day.

Last month, Cudi was arrested in New York and charged with felony criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance after authorities were called to respond to a disturbance involving the rapper and an unidentified woman. The rapper, however, was later released and turned up at the Bonnaroo festival hours later, joining Jay-Z and Kings of Leon, among others, on the bill.

What do you think of Kid Cudi's new song? Is Kanye's verse more proof he's back? Tell us what you think in the comments!

Injured Madina Lake Bassist's Prognosis Is Good, Brother Says

Nathan Leone says his brother, Matthew, is conscious after being savagely beaten while intervening in a domestic dispute.

Earlier this week, Madina Lake bassist Matthew Leone was savagely beaten and left unconscious after he attempted to intervene in a domestic dispute in his hometown of Chicago. He suffered a broken jaw and nose and a fractured skull, and doctors were forced to remove a third of his skull to alleviate pressure on his brain, which was swelling.

For the past three days, Leone has been in and out of consciousness, and his twin brother — Madina Lake frontman Nathan Leone — has been at his side for every second. On Thursday (July 1), Nathan took a minute out of his vigil to speak with MTV News about the incident, and to give Madina Lake fans an update on Matthew's condition.

"I've been there for about 72 hours, next to him, constantly, and I basically just took an hour to go home and take a shower. I'm going back [to the hospital] now," Nathan said. "[Matthew] had all kinds of injuries, and his brain was swelling, so doctors had to remove part of his skull and put it on ice while we wait for the swelling to stop and the hematoma to stop leaking.

"It was touch and go for a while there, but at this point, things are starting to turn around, which is wonderful," the singer said. "The first couple of days, he couldn't recognize me or say anything coherent, but this morning he did. And now he's aware and talking and moving around a little, which is wonderful. So the prognosis is getting better by the hour."

Leone added that Chicago police have already made an arrest in connection with his brother's assault. (The Chicago Police Department had not responded to MTV News' request for information by press time.) Though what happened to his brother was terrible, Leone said that the reactions to the incident from Madina Lake's fans and fellow musicians have also reaffirmed his belief in humanity.

"The outpouring of support has been amazing," Leone said. "Every band we've ever toured with, every Facebook and MySpace outlet has been going crazy with love and support. We've heard from friends, fans, neighbors, labels and management. It's honestly overwhelming. When something horrible happens, you're inclined to despise humanity, but this proves how many amazing people there are in the world."

While his brother drifted in and out of consciousness, Nathan read him some of the e-mails and comments Madina Lake fans had written him, and he believes their kind words are what helped him pull through.

"I truly believe that," he said. "They helped save his life."

And though Matthew Leone has now regained consciousness, he still faces an uphill battle. Nathan says he's optimistic that his brother can leave the hospital "within the next three to five days" after the swelling has subsided. When he returns home, he'll have to wear protective headwear until doctors can re-attach the portions of his skull. Even after all of that, there's still one more hurdle he'll have to face.

"We don't have health insurance. It's a horrible coincidence, because as we've been on tour, it's been hard to manage bills," Nathan said. "And then you get home, and you start writing again, and the bills just become too hard to catch up with. So, no, we don't have insurance. But we'll deal with that when we have to."

Kim Kardashian Gets Her Own Madame Tussauds Wax Figure

'I'd say she's pretty hot,' the reality star joked at the unveiling of her statue.

NEW YORK — It wouldn't be the first time Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus were in a room together, but it certainly marks the first time their wax figures will be. On Thursday (July 1) at Madame Tussauds in Times Square, the reality star unveiled the latest wax figure by the famed museum. And this one was of herself.

For someone who is photographed as often as Kardashian, she is still reeling at the thought of standing next to an exact replica of herself. "When I first heard I was going to be immortalized, I was so honored," she told MTV News at the unveiling event. "I mean, it's a pretty cool thing. I called my sisters right away, and it looks so much like me, it's scary. It's probably one of the biggest honors, so [my sisters] were so excited for me."

So, how does Kardashian think the statue turned out? "It is weird! It's like she's prettier than I am. It's so weird, like, my arms and the hands ... everything about it is so exact that it's weird to see yourself," she laughed. "So now I can really see from an outsider's point of view. It's weird."

It really had us wondering what she would think of herself if she saw herself walking down the street. "I'd say she's pretty hot!" she joked. "I'm just kidding. She has better hair than I do."

To add to the uncanny similarities between herself and her wax figure, Kardashian wore the same exact hot pink Herve Leger bandage dress the statue is wearing. "Well I wanted something that would represent my style, something tight and sexy and fun and flirty," she explained, adding that there's even a star or two she — or rather her statue — would like to be standing near. "There's so many amazing, iconic people. Jennifer Lopez would be fun. Michael Jackson would be amazing."

How do you think Kim Kardashian's statue compares to her? Tell us in the comments!
