Of all the buzz surrounding this week's hugely anticipated release of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1," the vast majority of fan rumblings and excitement have been about and for one scene and one scene only: the "honeymoon scene," a.k.a. Bella and Edward's sex scene.

It's a different story for the actors involved, specifically for Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, who have talked at length about how awkward filming the scene was. Their co-stars seem to be onboard with their enthusiasm for the "action," however. When MTV News caught up with Taylor Lautner recently, he said he was ready for it.

"I've seen Edward and Bella go through a lot so far, so I feel like I was kind of ready to see this," Lautner said. "I think everybody will feel the same way. We've seen Edward and Bella in their relationship grow so much that it's about time."

"Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer told us at the "Breaking Dawn" premiere that the scene in the movie gives fans a lot more to see and think about than she did in the book.

"I think it's romantic, and it does give you more than the book does," Meyer said. "I know some of the sites call it, instead of 'fade to black,' 'fade to sad.' They'd love to see more. I think this gives them that," she said. "It gives them a romantic peek into the honeymoon. We don't want to see too much."

Although everyone seems to be excited to see the honeymoon scene, Lautner still isn't sure that Bella made the right decision when she chose Edward over his character, Jacob Black. When asked if he thought Bella made the wrong call, he jokingly said, "You know, I go back and forth with that one [question] still."

'X Factor': Josh Krajcik Rocks Out On A Rocky Night

Astro and Rachel Crow also earn high marks, but Stacy Francis and Lakoda Rayne draw Simon Cowell's ire.
By Adam Graham

"The X Factor" took on rock music Wednesday, with decidedly rocky results.

The debate of what really constitutes rock overshadowed the proceedings, with the increasingly catty judges sniping at one another over their song choices and whether they fit the evening's theme. In the end, only one performer, Josh Krajcik, turned in what could truly be considered a rockin' performance, plugging in and kicking out the jams with the Foo Fighters' "Pretender."

Krajcik was the evening's big winner — inspiring mentor Nicole Scherzinger to head-bang her way through his performance — along with teen rapper Astro, who is quickly becoming a favorite in the competition. Astro's original song, a dedication to hip-hop rapped to Puff Daddy's "I'll Be Missing You," caused L.A. Reid to gush that he not only has what it takes to win the competition, but also to become a "major international star," while Simon Cowell told him he has more maturity and intelligence than the older contestants he's up against. Astro's consistency, meanwhile, irked Paula Abdul. "Can you just suck for once?" she pleaded. "I don't think you can!"

Here's how the remainder of the contestants fared:

The Boys
Chris Rene, sporting one of Jay-Z's controversial Occupy All Streets T-shirts, did Bob Marley's "No Woman No Cry," which Cowell argued wasn't nearly rockin' enough. "Loved the performance. Would have been great if the theme was reggae," Cowell quipped. Marcus Canty's take on Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart" earned high marks from everyone but Cowell, who said it felt like he was pretending to be someone he's not. L.A. Reid shot back with a simple, "You rocked!"

The Girls
Coming off a strong performance last week, Rachel Crow took on the Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," which more than satisfied the judges. "The question is, can you sell records? Can you sell tickets? And the answer is yes," Reid beamed. Melanie Amaro's piano-and-vocals version of R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts" was dismissed as "so not rock" by Reid, and Scherzinger questioned why she wasn't moved to tears by the song (she explained that, normally, she is a weeping mess by the song's close). Cowell, however, boasted that the performance reminded him of Adele and Alicia Keys — performers who are not the least bit rock, mind you, but who happen to sell a lot of records.

Fourteen-year-old Drew, meanwhile, took on U2's "With or Without You" — which was similar to her version of Coldplay's "Fix You" last week — and Reid, Scherzinger and Abdul all stressed they'd like to hear her do something outside her comfort zone. But Cowell dismissed their comments and praised her, saying he's confident she'll be in the competition "until the end."

The Over 30's
LeRoy Bell's straightforward reading of Bob Seger's "We've Got Tonight" was smacked down by the judges. "You're good, man, but I need more. This is the big time," Reid scolded him. Stacy Francis dedicated her performance of Meat Loaf's "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" to her "Franatics," but Cowell trashed her performance with his most stinging critique of the season to date. "It was the sort of thing I would expect someone to sing at the Hilton hotel with people turning their backs eating peanuts," he said. (It's safe to say he is not a Franatic.)

The Group
Lakoda Rayne, Paula Abdul's sole remaining group, got hammered for what Cowell called their "stupid" and "gimmicky" choreography, and he called the group's performance of the Outfield's "Your Love" mashed up with Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way" "a complete mess." When Reid called Cowell's critique harsh, Cowell barked, "Watch your back" at Reid. Me-ow, you two!

One finalist is due to be sent home on Thursday's (November 17) show, which is also set to feature a live performance by Rihanna.

Noel Gallagher Soars With High Flying Birds

Posted: 17 Nov 2011 03:53 AM PST

Former Oasis songwriter's solo debut has earned rave reviews, none of which impress him all that much.
By James Montgomery

Photo: MTV News

Given all the recent coverage of his run-in with Katie Holmes and various, life-altering ways, you may be unaware that Noel Gallagher, late of Oasis, has just released his first proper solo album, a rock-solid collection of tunes that run the gamut from psych-tinged burners ("[I Wanna Live in a Dream in My] Record Machine") to straight-ahead churners ("Everybody's on the Run"), with stops at just about every point in between.

He's called the disc Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, a nod to both the first Fleetwood Mac album and a Jefferson Airplane song of (roughly) the same name, and so far, things are soaring. It's been greeted with glowing reviews, most of which seem to harp on the fact that the album represents "his best tunes in 15 years." Of course, in typical Gallagher fashion, he's not paying attention to any of it.

"I didn't read any of the reviews and think, 'Well, these people think I've been writing crap songs for the last 15 years.' I don't think of things like that," he told MTV News. "When I'm in the studio, I'm literally taking it song by song and then, you know, you get to the end of it. I got to say though, during the mixing of it, as each track was being finished, I was thinking, 'This does sound really good. ...'

"But I wouldn't like to compare it to anything Oasis did, because that's not fair," he continued. "We were a band and I was writing songs for someone else to sing, so you can't really compare the two. It's just a good record, what can I say?"

Humility was never his strong suit. Neither, apparently, was guitar playing. Because even though he slung the ax loud and often in Oasis, he never really considered himself to be a guitar player. Which is why, on High Flying Birds, he limited the showing off — there are, by unofficial count, just two solos on the whole album — and focused instead on doing what he loves best: writing killer tunes.

"I guess when guitarists make solo records, there's usually a lot of showing off. But I've been trying to convince for 20 years that I'm not a guitarist, I'm a songwriter. I played lead guitar in the band because everybody else, in the early days, was useless, so that kind of fell to me," he laughed. "But it's not something I ever thought I would put myself up there with John Squire or Johnny Marr or all those great British guitarists, that's not my thing. My thing was songwriting. I only noticed [the lack of solos] when a friend of mine was listening to the finished version, and it got to track six and he went, 'You know, that's the first guitar solo,' and I was like, 'Wow, someone's got an easy gig, doesn't he?' "

And since there's not going to be an Oasis reunion in the cards anytime soon, Gallagher is focused on promoting Birds both here and abroad. He's playing on just about every continent over the next six months and seems quite content to be doing nothing else. Especially attempting to figure out the machinations of the music industry of 2011 ... a plan he abandoned long ago, thanks in no small part to his daughter.

"She is into music, she's never mentioned Justin Bieber to me ... Lady Gaga's her thing, and Rihanna and, is it, Miley Cyrus? All that kind of thing," he said. "It's kind of a rule, she's got to like Oasis and her old fella, so she's into that side of it. But her teenage rock years will come [and], no doubt, she'll be into f---ing Nickelback as well."

By Kara Warner

It's been an exciting couple of weeks for "Hunger Games" fans, what with new posters to analyze, star Josh Hutcherson talking about how he felt "so right" for the role and of course, the debut of the film's first full-length trailer.

And now we have more from our exclusive interview with Hutcherson, in which we discuss a certain boy on fire and how thankful he is for the "Hunger Games" fans.

MTV: What can you tell us about that costume in the arena?

Josh Hutcherson: The costumes in the arena are very practical, which they had to be, not only for the purpose of the characters but also for us as actors because sometimes it was 95 degrees in the forest, and you're running around and you want to make sure you're wearing the right clothes and the appropriate attire and the right kind of shoes and everything. So we made it very real.

MTV: What about the one that is on fire?

Hutcherson: The one that's on fire, I don't want to say anything about that yet, you'll have to wait for it. It's very cool, I promise you. It's very cool.

MTV: Have you been following any of the fan fervor surrounding the film?

Hutcherson: Obviously the fans are crazy about it, which I'm really excited for them to see it. But for me, I stay away from a lot of that stuff, just because I don't really look at it all that much. But I hear some things people are saying, and it's pretty cool. It's exciting to hear people are that interested in something you're doing, so it's a little nerve-racking, but I'm onboard. The fans for "The Hunger Games," they're die-hard. They're the best fans in the world so I'm really excited for them to see the movie.

Taylor Lautner Fought For A Shirt In 'Breaking Dawn'

'I got it down to one time ... and it literally lasts for two seconds,' he tells MTV News about fewer shirtless scenes.

Poor Taylor Lautner. Ever since he ripped off his shirt to reveal a noticeably buffed-up bod in "New Moon," his fans and filmmakers have been clamoring to see more of those defined abs of his, much to the young actor's embarrassment.

We don't like being the bearer of bad news, but it seems as though Lautner's ab exposure peaked in "Eclipse." Why? Because there is only one very brief moment of shirtlessness in "Breaking Dawn - Part 1," and if Lautner has his way, that's all we're going to get from here on out.

"I got it down to one time, one time in the movie, and it literally lasts for two seconds," Lautner told MTV News proudly of his single shirtless shot.

"There was some negotiating for sure, oh yeah. There were more [shirtless scenes] when I read the original script, trust me," he said. "And I got it down to a very, very small amount, which I was so happy with."

Say it ain't so! Surely this is his strategy to leave his fans wanting more?

"No, it's just so I don't have to freeze to death while I'm filming this movie. I don't know why people don't believe me; it's uncomfortable," he protested. "Everybody on set, the crew, the cast are wearing clothes; bundles of clothes. And I'm just chillin' there naked. It's uncomfortable."

We know one man who might be pleased to hear about Lautner's lack of shirtless scene work: Robert Pattinson. "The only thing [that was difficult about filming the sex scene] is the vanity aspect," Pattinson told us recently. "Taylor [Lautner] just ruined the whole series for me. As soon as he buffed up, I went, 'Well, I'm throwing in the towel' on 'New Moon.' "

Mac Miller Ignored Label Offers On Road To #1 Debut

'We just really wanted to stick with our home team,' Mac Miller tells 'RapFix Live' of Blue Slide Park.

What's the first thing an artist does when he snags the #1 spot on the Billboard albums chart? Well, if he's Mac Miller, he plays James Brown's "I Feel Good" — and why wouldn't he?

On Wednesday (November 16), the 19-year-old Pittsburgh MC landed the #1 album with his independent debut, Blue Slide Park. It's the first time an indie artist has obtained the top spot with a debut since Tha Dogg Pound did it in 1995.

To mark the occasion, Mac — who is currently out on tour — appeared on "RapFix Live" via Skype. "It's crazy. I've been trying to take it all in," Miller told Sway. "I've just been in constant motion, so I haven't gotten a chance to really stop and realize how crazy this is that we got the first #1 in 16 years. It's nuts, man."

Mac broke out in 2010 when he signed to Rostrum Records and then dropped his K.I.D.S. mixtape. Rostrum, which is most noted for signing Wiz Khalifa, is an independent label. Even though Wiz is distributed through Atlantic Records, Mac has no major-label affiliation — not that the majors haven't been interested. But Team Miller wanted to do things on their own.

"I never really got far enough to see an offer for real," Mac said. "I got no hatred towards major labels or anything. I never got a chance to hear what they had to say. We just really wanted to stick with our home team and keep it in the family."

Miller's manager and Rostrum Records founder Benjy Grinberg has been fending off offers for Mac. "They called Benjy and wanted to talk, but Benjy was just on some 'We're not trying to talk right now, we're doin' this independently.' And we just left it at that."

The move paid off. Since Blue Slide Park was released November 8, fans have been snatching up copies both digitally and physically. "The numbers are cool — 144,000, that's crazy. But whatever it is, the fact that I got a #1 album on my first try independently is just something that no one could ever take away from me," Mac said. "I had fans tweeting me with pictures of nine albums that they bought."

Justin Bieber Paternity Suit Dropped, Lawyer Confirms

But Mariah Yeater attorney Jeffrey Leving tells MTV News negotiations are still ongoing.
By Gil Kaufman

A lawyer for Mariah Yeater confirmed reports Wednesday (November 16) that the California woman had dropped her paternity suit against Justin Bieber.

After TMZ reported that Yeater had been dropped by the attorneys representing her and that they had withdrawn the claim last week, Chicago attorney Jeffrey Leving told MTV News that the suit is, technically, off but that negotiations are happening behind-the-scenes for a settlement.

"We are still pursuing a DNA test and ... if it's positive, our desire for child support is still active," said Leving, who confirmed that a motion to dismiss the paternity action was filed November 9 in San Diego. "We could refile the paternity case tomorrow if we wanted, but we are attempting to settle the case out of court."

Leving said his office is in negotiations with Bieber's attorney in the case, Los Angeles-based Howard Weitzman, to settle the matter. Weitzman could not be reached for comment at press time.

Can Justin Fight Back? See Bieber's Options

Leving said he was legally barred from commenting on his decision to withdraw the petition but described it as part of a strategy to negotiate a confidentiality agreement and child-support payments as part of an out-of-court settlement. He said his co-counsel in California had been in touch with Weitzman and that he has also brought on a detective to investigate what he claimed were death threats against Yeater.

Though he is now directing the case, Leving said he has been involved from the beginning but did not participate in the decision by Yeater's two former San Diego attorneys to file the paternity suit. He has also barred Yeater from doing any further media appearances or interviews. "She's a 20-year-old single mom with no money and no job trying to raise an infant, and she's being harassed and stalked," he said.

Last week, Bieber's camp confirmed that the 17-year-old singer would take a paternity test as soon as he returns from a European promotional jaunt in celebration of his just-released Christmas album, Under the Mistletoe.

Bieber's team vigorously denied the claim from the moment Yeater launched the paternity action earlier this month. Yeater claimed in a signed affidavit in the suit that she had unprotected sex with Bieber last October in a backstage area at one of the singer's concerts at Los Angeles' Staples Center and that her 4-month-old baby is his.

On Wednesday, Bieber's spokesperson once again maintained the pop star's innocence when asked to respond to reports that the suit had been dropped. "As we've said from the beginning, it's sad that someone would fabricate such a malicious, defamatory, and demonstrably false claim," Matthew Hiltzik said in a statement. "We'll continue to consider all of our options to protect Justin."

Asked to respond to suggestions that the withdrawal of the paternity suit appeared to weaken Yeater's claim, Leving said he felt just the opposite was true. "The case is stronger now because we can negotiate outside of court," he said. "I believe her. I believe she had sexual intercourse with him and I do believe he is the father of the child."

Because Leving is pursuing a nondisclosure agreement, he said, ideally, nobody will know the results of the DNA test either way. "If it's negative, we'll deal with it. If it's positive, we'll deal with it when that happens," he said. "But hopefully whether it's positive or negative, nobody will know."

Rick Ross appeared on Wednesday's (November 16) "RapFix Live" to give fans an update on his health and the status on his fifth solo album, God Forgives, I Don't, after suffering two seizures in October.

With Maybach Music rapper Meek Mill at his side, Ricky Rozay confirmed that the December 13 release date for his album is subject to change because of the lull in his workflow.

"The date is still tentative, December 13. [Because of] my little health situation, I had to postpone a lot of my groundwork," Ross said. "And I feel like that's important for artists like myself.

"If I wanted to, I'm pretty sure I could still meet that date, but I think for the people, it's more important [to lay groundwork] for when I get out there and look them in the face and touch them hands," Ross said, explaining the likelihood of a delay. "We've just gotta lay ground for it, and I'mma keep y'all updated."

During his rest and recovery period, Ross had time to link up with Jay-Z for a new track, which is set to appear on God Forgives, I Don't. "Just expect the biggest collabo we've ever made together. It's just gonna make the project mean that much more," he said. "Any time me and the Big Homie get together, you know I'm coming with my A-game, 'cause I wanna make sure the homie is impressed with whatever I'm coming to the table with — and he was. He blessed me, so y'all get ready for it."

Until Rick Ross finally releases God Forgives, I Don't, he continues to heavily promote Ambition, the sophomore album from his Maybach Music artist Wale.

Plus more inside scoop from backstage, where Jermaine Dupri was spotted hanging out.
By Jim Cantiello

MTV News' own Jim Cantiello is exclusively covering "The X Factor" rehearsals. Read on for his fly-on-the-wall backstage report!

LOS ANGELES — The top 10 contestants on "The X Factor" are taking on rock and roll this week, and everyone backstage is on edge. Production closed off all rehearsals so contestants couldn't sit in while their competitors practiced. During the dress rehearsal, many of the top 10 were glued to a monitor backstage scoping out the competition for the first time. Tense!

It may be Rock Week, but Jermaine Dupri was spotted hanging out backstage with L.A. Reid's right-hand man. You think deals are happening on the lot? Let the irresponsible rumor mongering commence!

Here are some other "X Factor" backstage tidbits so juicy I have to make them blind to protect my job. (Don't be mad.)

» Which fan fave was spotted reading lyrics off an iPhone during rehearsals? She better get those down by tonight, especially since it's a beloved rock ballad that everyone drunkenly croons at 2 a.m. karaoke.

» Another contestant was concerned that one dance move involving a line of dancers would make him look too sleazy. "I'm all for having fun, but I don't want to be crazy sexual with it. That's not me," he was overheard telling an "X Factor" crew member. "The kids don't need that." The crew members assured him that it plays charming instead of lecherous.

» Expect hair experimentation galore on Wednesday night (November 16)! During the dress rehearsal, one singer tried out a blowout for the first time. He was on the fence until everyone backstage — cast and crew — gushed over the new look. One of the gurus of the @TheXFactorUSA Twitter account joked that his hair will be a trending topic. "OK, I guess we're running with it," he shrugged. (My two cents: IT RULES.)

» Another hair makeover! She went from five-head to no-head, and she's never looked better. Upgrade!

» For those of you who watched last month's O Music Awards Dance Marathon on MTV.com, keep your eyes peeled for breakout star "Dancer 13." (Remember the tall guy with a bunch of energy?) Now he's backing up results-show performer Rihanna. Exciting!

» And last but not least, judge and mentor Paula Abdul only has one group left, the female country pop quartet Lakoda Rayne. Despite last week's drama, the group is more focused than ever. The Rayne girls knew exactly what song they wanted to do for Rock Week and stuck to their guns, despite the production initially suggesting a different number. Paula has never been prouder of her girls.

Who are you expecting to shine during Rock Week? Let us know in the comments!

Mike Posner Enlists Big Sean, Bun B For The Layover

Celebrity Favorites: Mike Posner
Don't let Mike Posner's pop success fool you: The boy is as hip-hop as they come.

Before he cracked the Billboard top 10 with his debut single "Cooler Than Me," the Duke grad was slinging free mixtapes like rappers do. On Sunday, the raspy-voice singer is going to return to what he knows when he drops his Layover mixtape.

Since his first album was 31 Minutes to Take Off and his spring 2012 follow-up will be titled Sky High, Mike figured The Layover would be the perfect title for an in-between project.

"I think a lot of people don't realize that I came up doing mixtapes," Posner told Mixtape Daily. "My first mixtape was with [DJ Don] Cannon that I made in my dorm room when I was a student at Duke, and 'Cooler Than Me' was a song on that mixtape that I recorded in my dorm room."

So even with all his success, Mike still has love for the mixtape grind. "It is incredibly important for me to reach back to my roots, and kind of do what I came up doing again," he said.

Posner once again recruited Don Cannon to help him put the tape together, and this time out, he's collaborating with Big Sean, Big K.R.I.T., Bun B and Twista too. "I really took it back to the basics with this tape," he explained. "I brought Cannon back in, Big Sean's on the tape, Big K.R.I.T.'s on the tape, and I'm doing the remixes of songs and kind of like hip-hop-ifying classic non-hip-hop songs."

One such song is Elton John's 1972 classic "Rocket Man." Posner threw new synths and pulsating drums under the classic melody. While he adds his own swag to Elton's lyrics, Mike also enlisted Bun B to add a verse for a 2011 upgrade. That's not all: On "Wonderfall," the Detroit singer/producer redoes Oasis' "Wonderwall" and adds Big K.R.I.T. to the mix.

All in all, it's a refreshing, genre-bending take on some classic music.

Ricky Gervais Will Return as Golden Globes Host

British comic stirred up controversy last year with his celeb-skewering one-liners and atheist sendoff.

Weeks of debate have finally ended. On Wednesday (November 16), the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided with a vote that British comedian Ricky Gervais will return to host the Golden Globes for the third time, according to Variety.

Disagreement among the members of the HFPA and NBC, the network that broadcasts the television and film awards show, about whether the controversial host should return made headlines this week. NBC was Gervais' most vocal proponent, but factions in the HFPA were uneasy about the "Office" creator after his no-holds-barred one-liners targeted some of Hollywood's biggest names and he thanked God for being born an atheist.

After the fallout from Gervais' last turn as host of the Golden Globes, he told several sources that he no longer wished to host the show again. His feelings toward the job changed in recent months, when he became more vocal about wanting to return. He even went as far as suggesting that if he didn't host, he would offer a live running commentary throughout the show.

Once it was clear that talks of the comedian's return were serious, Gervais came out to explain that the holdup was due to the HFPA's indecision and that he had NBC's full support.

The Globes are not the only awards show with a hosting controversy. After Eddie Murphy stepped down as Oscars host, Gervais joked to Deadline that he would host both the Academy Awards and the Globes for a discounted price.

Drake, Nicki Minaj's 'Chemistry Is Great,' Producer Says

Are they or aren't they? Drake always talks about his love for Nicki Minaj, but whether it's just an inside joke or something more serious, only they know.

Their chemistry in the studio, however, is undeniable. "It's kind of like a little joke I think that they play with each other," Toronto producer T-Minus told MTV News. "I really don't know what goes on behind closed doors with that. Definitely it could be something, but I personally don't even know what goes on."

Aside from their current Take Care collaboration, "Make Me Proud," T-Minus also produced last year's Nicki/Drake duet "Moment 4 Life," so he's a bit of an authority on the pair's in-studio magic. "Musically they go really well together. I think they're a great contribution to Young Money. The chemistry is great," he told MTV News.

Drizzy has never been shy about his admiration for his curvy Young Money labelmate. On his 2010 track "Miss Me," Drake famously rapped, "I love Nicki Minaj, I told her I'd admit it/ I hope one day we get married just to say we f---in' did it." A few months later, he playfully announced via Twitter that he and Minaj had gotten married.

Maybe it was in those tweets that Drake found inspiration for his latest single. He wrote, "Baby I am never scared. PROUD is more the word I would use," before making the faux wedding announcement. Whatever the case, a year and two months later we get "Make Me Proud."

"Whenever I make songs surrounding women, I always try to find refreshing stances to take, as opposed to just like, Oh, you're sexy or Oh, I want you. The song, it really came up in passing conversation, just being like, I'm proud of you," Drake told MTV News back in October when he first dropped the single.

In order to bring his idea to life musically, the OVO general called on T-Minus. "Drake was looking for a record to put Nicki on for Take Care and we were debating about a lot of different records that we had," the producer said. "He was like, 'I want something that has a lot of energy, it sounds fast, but it's got a slow tempo.' "

After their powwow, "Make Me Proud" came together in no time. "It maybe took like 30 minutes. I sent it to him and he was like, OK, it's a wrap, I got this," T-Minus explained. "It took him like a day [to finish]. It was the craziest thing ever."

Box-office analyst Jeff Bock tells MTV News the 'Twilight' flick could earn $150 million during opening weekend.

Anyone who is at least vaguely familiar with the "Twilight Saga" and the phenomenon that it is could tell you that "Breaking Dawn - Part 1," the penultimate entry in the series, is going to be big at the box office.

Just how big? Deadline Hollywood reported Wednesday (November 16) that Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the paranormal romance films, expects a domestic opening-weekend gross of anywhere from $110 million to $125 million. An opening weekend within that range could put it in the top 10 highest-grossing debuts ever.

As large as those figures may be, they are still a far cry from the biggest domestic opening for a "Twilight" film. In 2009, "New Moon" earned a whopping $142 million during its three-day opening, beating the series' second best debut, "Eclipse," by $22 million.

Jeff Bock, box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations, thinks "Breaking Dawn" could outperform Summit's expectations. "Expect 'Breaking Dawn - Part 1' to suck the life out of the box office to the tune of $150 million this weekend," Bock wrote in an email to MTV News.

That would put the film within the top five all-time weekends, but Bock doubts it will break any records. "It's doubtful it can top 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2''s record-breaking $169 million debut," Bock said. "But it's certainly not out of the question for 'Breaking Dawn - Part 2' to hit that mark."

Bock's predictions are more along the lines of what rival studios expect from the film, according to Deadline. Despite Summit's own lofty expectations, a more recent version of the same report claims that rival studios have accused Summit of low-balling the figures. The other studios expect "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" to earn in excess of $142 million

Robert Pattinson 'Like A Dad' To Mackenzie Foy

'I don't see him as cute,' 11-year-old actress who plays vampire/human daughter Renesmee Cullen tells MTV News.

With the official release of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1," just a few days away, it's hard to focus on anything else "Twilight"-related. But here at MTV News we can and do, particularly since we managed to snag an interview with Mackenzie Foy on Monday night at the Los Angeles premiere, where the adorable young actress said she was only allowed to see "bits and pieces," given a few intense and steamy scenes,

Never mind the fact that there's still another year to go before we see Foy onscreen when "Breaking Dawn - Part 2," opens, we were just excited to talk to her about playing Renesmee, the half-vampire/ half-human daughter of Edward and Bella.

"To be honest, I'm really excited about this part too," Foy gushed. "I knew that [playing] Renesmee Cullen was going to be a big, amazing experience. I knew that she was going to be an amazing big part to do and I'm ready for it and I did it."

The blue-eyed, brown-haired 11-year-old admitted that she might look "just a little bit like" her onscreen parents, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, and had nothing but praise for how nice everyone was to her during filming — except, of course, when it came to using naughty language. We heard Foy made out like a bandit by charging her co-stars money every time they swore, so we asked her to confirm.

"Yes, it is true! They would say bad words, and I put it all in this little bucket called the 'Swear Jar.' I don't really know [how much I made], I know it was a lot but I donated it all to St. Jude's," she revealed, adding that no one in particular was more foul-mouthed than any other castmember. "They all swear pretty evenly," she said.

We moved on to another important question: Like millions of other Twilighters, does Foy think co-star Pattinson is cute?

"I don't see him as cute," she said matter-of-factly. "He's really nice and all, but he's more of a friend or a brother or a dad to me. ... Kristen is an amazing, sweet, wonderful actress and I'm so lucky to be working with her," she added. "She's an amazing person."

And what does she think about Taylor Lautner, her would-be future onscreen love interest? "He is nice, he's funny, he just loves to be with people," Foy said. "I loved working with all of them; they're really sweet."

Finally, regarding her favorite scene to shoot, Foy hinted that it's one toward the end of the movie (and likely the franchise) between Renesmee and Jacob. "My favorite scene to shoot was one of the very last scenes with Taylor. It's one where I'm on him and it's just really cool," she teased. "I'm not going to give out details, but it's a really amazing scene."

Rebecca Black Is Back With 'Person Of Interest'

New video follows in footsteps of 'Friday,' only with fewer mentions of car seats (and days of the week).
By James Montgomery

Rebecca Black's "Friday" was a bizarrely literal documentation of all manner of teen-dream ephemera (who among us can forget her internal debate over which seat she should take in her friend's car?) that, not surprisingly, became the stuff of Internet legend.

And, in the process, it also helped launch her career — which, to this point, seems to have crested with her cameo in Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night" clip. Sure, she tried to get semi-serious with her "Friday" follow-up, "My Moment," which was certainly a more polished product, but came packaged with a video that featured nary a mention of car seats (or days of the week), and as such, didn't really do what it intended: prove that Black was more than just a viral sensation and push her to the next level (though, to be fair, it has racked up some 27 million views on YouTube, certainly not a number to be sneezed at).

So now, she's back with phase three of her world domination plan, a new single and rather amazingly called "Person of Interest" (no word on whether J.J. Abrams is getting points on the back end), which seems to be her attempt at melding the temporal inanity of "Friday" with the, uh, budget of "My Moment." Or, you know, something like that.

Because this time around, she's dropping lines like "There's a crime scene on the dance floor" and "Can't deny you're implicated in the mayhem in my mind" over a lilting, post-disco beat that features the same ratcheting electro tendrils, open-faced guitar licks and ebbing, undulating synth squiggles that you've heard on every Radio Disney song from 2008 to present. They're practically prerequisites. Her voice is still lacquered with studio sheen, particularly on the chorus and the "emotive" breakdown toward the back end, when all the instrumentation falls away and we're left with nothing more than Black's squelched-yet-slippery vocals. It is all seemingly created in a laboratory and, rather ingeniously, her attempt at splitting the difference between the breakout hit and the lesser follow up.

The video is complete with skee-ball and mini-golf and go-karts and all manner of "Mom-drop-us-off-here" madness. There's a cute boy, and a police sketch artist (since, you know, the song is called "Person of Interest") and a really fun party where Black gets to go onstage and perform — in front of all her best friends (and the cute boy too) — because, lest you forget, she's the star. It is certainly a better video than "Friday," and yet, it is not as compelling as that clip, mostly because it is a better video. And that, really, seems to be the case both for and against Rebecca Black — the machinations and aspirations were readily apparent from the very beginning (both hers and those of the Ark Music Factory that spawned her); we just don't tend to respond to them when they are so apparent, you know?

And yes, I realize this is all fairly highbrow discussion of a rather lowbrow song, but it's oddly fascinating, too, especially since it has become apparent that Black cares so much about being famous. Will "Person of Interest" succeed where "My Moment" failed? Can it establish her as an actual pop star, or will it once again fail to match the zeitgeist-uniting WTF-ness of "Friday"? Is this just the next step in her voyage, or is it the end? The jury's still out on all counts, though you've got to give her (or her handlers) credit for continuing to try. Or maybe you don't. For an artist as straightforward as Rebecca Black is, she's certainly confounding, isn't she?

What do you think of Rebecca Black's latest? Let us know in the comments!

Common Wanted To 'Get In The Ring' On 'Sweet'

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 12:19 AM PST

Chicago MC shot new video for the single in Haiti, then used clip to raise funds for the earthquake-ravaged nation.
By Rebecca Thomas

NEW YORK — Moments into Common's new video for "Sweet," a man in a mustard-yellow dress shirt faces down the camera, casually twirling a machete. It's a fitting image for the blistering No I.D. track from the Chicago MC's upcoming The Dreamer, The Believer. Com is at turns cold and cutting on the single, slinging verses like blades.

If it feels unexpected coming from the man who can still set hearts aflutter with emotive tunes like "The Light" and "Come Close," it's just that Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr. also happens to be the rap star who brought you '07's "The People." That duality gives "Sweet" its bitter aftertaste and, according to Com, fuels a December 20 release that shows off "a lot of different energies."

"When I started 'Sweet,' as soon as I started talking on it, I was like, 'Yo, this is hip-hop, this is what I do,' " he said, smiling broadly at the memory during a chat with MTV News at the Warner Bros. offices. "It was a lot I had to get off my chest on that. And at the same token, I love hip-hop music and raw rap music, for me it was like, 'Man, I'm gonna go ahead and give them this side of me too.' "

But Common doesn't just go for the crown on the track, he growls at some unidentified "singing" MCs for getting all "Frank Sinatra" on their records. Told by MTV News that early buzz put "emo" rapper Drake in the "Sweet" bull'- eye, the Chi spitter looked surprised.

"The great thing about hip-hop, you definitely get motivated by other hip-hop artists," he explained. "You get in the ring and you'll be like, 'Let's go,' but for me, it's like, I'm talking to whoever feels it, whoever when they hear it, they're like, 'Ooh, is that person talking about me?' "

So ... should the Toronto rapper add Com to the short list of critics taking him to task for crooning? "I think Drake is a good artist," he responded breezily. "He's a great artist." Not to mention, teaming up with No I.D. has a tendency to bring out that street in Common: "It's natural for me to do that, it's organic. That's somebody I grew up with and he knows me and knows what I've done throughout the years, whether good or bad."

On Monday night the Can I Borrow a Dollar? MC debuted the clip via Ustream. In it, he stalks the bustling, dirt-strewn streets of Haiti snarling heat like, "I'm the franchise so I rock my own chain / Know I said give 'em that '80s cocaine/ Something raw, something pure, so I stayed in that vein." But underscoring his many facets, Com also took the opportunity to raise funds for the earthquake-ravaged Caribbean country by having fans first donate $1 to the Sean Penn- led J/P Haitian Relief Organization in order to stream the visual.

'Hunger Games' Trailer: Five Key Scenes

The Reaping, Katniss' training and a tribute heart-to-heart are must-see moments from new clip.

The first full-length trailer for 2012's "The Hunger Games," starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, set the internet ablaze Monday (November 14) after its debut on "Good Morning America," and there's plenty for fans to dissect in the clip—despite the fact that it centers almost exclusively on the first half of Suzanne Collins' dystopian tome. Let the Games begin as we dive into the five key moments from the trailer:

The Reaping
Arguably the most pivotal and moving moment from the trailer, The Reaping sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the country of Panem. After Primrose Everdeen's name is selected by mentor Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) to participate in the 74th annual Hunger Games, sister Katniss steps in to take her place. "I volunteer. I volunteer as tribute," she screams as Peacekeepers hold her at bay. Baker's son Peeta Mellark is selected next, cementing the duo that will represent the impoverished community of District 12.

Katniss Hits the Bulls Eye
All those years of hunting for game outside of District 12 have paid off for Katniss. We get a look at the training session for the Hunger Games and see our heroine in action, being pretty badass with a bow and arrow. For a split-second during the scene, we catch a glimpse of some of the other tributes, including Rue and Cato. Yet, it's a wig-wearing Woody Harrleson as Haymitch who says, "This is the time to show them everything. Make sure they remember you." When the tribute pulls back, releases her arrow and hits her mark, we realize, as does Gamemaker Seneca Crane (Wes Bentley), that Katniss is the real deal.

"My Fave Moment Is ___." Tell Us on Facebook

Katniss Wears The Mockingjay
In a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, a gleaming Mockingjay pin is pressed into Katniss' palm as a good-luck charm for the Games. Though we can't tell for sure who gifts her with the talisman (in the novel it's friend Madge Undersee), the Mockingjay comes to represent Katniss in the Games...and beyond.

Peeta And Katniss Share A Moment
We finally hear Peeta speak! Fans have been anxiously waiting to see how Hutcherson will play the role of Peeta, and it looks like he has perfected not only the character, but the blond hair as well. Peeta and Katniss meet on the rooftop of the training center to discuss their fates. Peeta expresses his concern in keeping his identity while fighting in the games, yet Katniss' only thought is how she will survive. It's the first time we see these two have a moment together, and there is an undeniable chemistry between them. We cannot wait to see how the love triangle between Katniss, Gale and Peeta plays out!

The Cornucopia
Our only look at the titular Games, Katniss emerges from underneath the arena to face the 23 tributes tasked with killing each other. Upon the countdown, they bolt towards the Cornucopia, a macabre collection of weapons and assets to aid their quest for victory. How will it all play out? You'll have to flock to theaters March 23, 2012 to find out!

'Rock of Ages' Director Tried To Get Robert Pattinson

Posted: 15 Nov 2011 11:45 PM PST

'There were a million times when we were supposed to get together and talk, but the dude is so busy,' Adam Shankman tells MTV News.

At the Hollywood premiere of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1," Tinseltown was abuzz with all things Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Even Adam Shankman, director of the upcoming movie musical "Rock of Ages," couldn't help but gush about Pattinson in particular.

"Rob is a good singer. There were times during the 'Rock of Ages' casting process [we thought of him], and he was never available," Shankman told MTV News' Josh Horowitz. "That just was never able to happen. There were a million times when we were supposed to get together and talk, but the dude is so busy."

Aside from not being able to land Pattinson for a role, Shankman said the musical will indeed rock — so much so that even the men out there will enjoy it. "The movie really is like a musical for straight guys," Shankman laughed. "Guys are going to be super pumped to go with their girlfriends."

Though the film's casting process snagged headlines early on, we haven't heard or seen too much from "Rock of Ages," but Shankman said that should change soon, when a trailer arrives this month. The director said the wait will be worth it for all of the craziness we'll end up seeing. "It is a batsh-- crazy movie," he said. "It is a ride from beginning to end; it is giant movie stars singing classic-rock karaoke in '80s drag having the time of their lives. It's just a big party."

The one thing we have seen from the film is an official snapshot of Tom Cruise, rocking out, minus a shirt, and at the premiere, Shankman hyped up the "Mission: Impossible" star's rock abilities. "For Tom, well, I would say he does an insane version of 'Pour Some Sugar on Me,' that every time I show it to people, they're like, 'Can we see that again?' " Shankman said.

According to the director, things get even more heated when Cruise teams up with Malin Akerman for a power ballad. "He and Malin Akerman do one of the most outrageous interpretations of 'I Want to Know What Love Is'; I just hope I get it past the ratings board," he said.

The number is so out-there, according to Shankman, that he considers it the craziest thing he's directed. "[Malin] is fearless, she's awesome," he said. "We knew you couldn't tell jokes about rockers in the '80s halfway, so it's very funny, but it's also sexy and it's a little insane. I've never made anything that is that nuts.

Lady Gaga Reads To Her Fans From Photo Book

Gaga does a little story time, reading the intro to her Terry Richardson-shot tome in a new video.
By James Montgomery

Lady Gaga's Terry Richardson-shot photo book hits stores in less than a week, and as such, she's decided to give her fans a sneak peek — with a little Mother Monster Story Time.

In a new video posted on her YouTube channel, Gaga reads the intro she penned for the book, an essay about her relationship with Richardson that's long on literary flourish and also serves as an examination of self, not to mention a rallying cry for those on the fringes of society. It is, to say the very least, very Gaga.

Reclining on a couch in a black, sequined outfit (with matching chapeau), LG cracks the tome — which, she notes, is "dedicated to the Little Monsters, naturally" — and pores over her prose. And somewhere, Terry Richardson is undoubtedly blushing.

"Sometimes it seems as though I've waited my entire life to be photographed by Terry Richardson. With Terry, the relationship extends beyond the photograph, and if you're lucky, he will teach you something truly profound about yourself," she reads. "I have discovered through him that shame is an obsolete notion and apology is an injustice to any performance. ... To say he is a free spirit is a tremendous understatement and to say that he, or I, make people uncomfortable is spot on.

"Terry finds beauty in the most intricate and unassuming of places. His photography beckons the question over and over again: 'Should there ever be limitations in art?' Because when he captures me in a moment of such tandem and artistic human purity, I'm convinced the answer is that we must push the boundaries of culture through love and acceptance," she continues. "There is no moment too strange, no angle unflattering ... and never a time that I feel embarrassed or unsafe. Awaked in me is a perverse liberation inspiring me to feel that it is OK to view yourself as hyper-human. This is how Terry views me. I am so real, he says, that I am unreal."

Those seemingly "hyper-human" moments include unfiltered photographs taken over the course of 10 very hectic months, that feature of Gaga in dispose, including "waking up in the morning, brushing my teeth, in the bathroom, in the bathtub, in the shower," as she explained to MTV News earlier this year.

"The thing about Terry, if you know anything about his photography, is that nothing is staged; I mean, that's sort of what he is renowned for. He can get you to do things and he can capture things that no one can ever capture," she explained. "He could come backstage and he would say, 'Oh my God, the fans!' And I'd say 'I know ...' And he'd say, 'Baby, wow!' And then he'd film me, like, peeing in a cup and, like, ridiculous things."

What are you expecting from the Lady Gaga photo book? Let us know in the comments!

Iron Man's 'Avengers' Armor Needs To Hulk Out

Posted: 15 Nov 2011 10:59 PM PST

In this week's Marvel Mania, we tackle Tony Stark's wardrobe and argue for the appearance of his Hulkbuster armor in next summer's 'Avengers.'
By Josh Wigler

There's a wonderful Internet meme that touts "money" as the best superpower in the world, and though it's a crude stance, it's got some weight. At the very least, money fuels two of the most popular and successful comic book heroes of them all: Batman and Iron Man. Without a good chunk of cash at their disposal, neither Bruce Wayne nor Tony Stark would have the necessary resources to wage their elaborate, gadget-heavy wars on crime, would they?

It's the latter hero — Iron Man — that we'll focus on in Marvel Mania, our new weekly MTV News column highlighting the various movies coming out from the House of Ideas. Already the most widely embraced hero in the Marvel Studios catalog, ol' Shellhead's about to make his third big-screen voyage with "The Avengers" next summer. With each subsequent appearance onscreen, Robert Downey Jr.'s billionaire playboy has found new and improved ways to upgrade his already impressive armor. (Suitcase suit, we're looking at you.) But will Tony's red-and-gold duds get another makeover when "Avengers" comes in for a landing — and, most importantly, will we finally see the hero's Hulkbuster armor?

First revealed in 1994's "Iron Man" #318, Tony Stark's Hulkbuster armor is a massive, heavy-set version of his classic Iron Man suit that was created specifically to handle one-on-one combat against the Hulk. The Hulkbuster has made numerous appearances since then — including a brief stint in Greg Pak's 2007 "World War Hulk" story line — and with Stark finally coming face-to-face with Bruce Banner in "The Avengers," it's all but guaranteed that Marvel will finally bust out the fan-favorite armor.

Or ... maybe not.

Revered Marvel Comics illustrator Adi Granov spoke with Italian outlet Bad Taste about his upcoming concept art for "Avengers," revealing that it will likely be a while before Tony breaks out the Hulkbuster suit on the big screen: "In the first ['Iron Man'] movie we had the Iron Monger ... the idea for him came from the Hulkbuster. I did a cover with the Hulkbuster in it. Jon Favreau liked that design and asked me to draw something similar to it for the Iron Monger. So technically the Iron Monger is the Hulkbuster, and that I think is why for a while we won't see it in a movie. It would only be yet another Iron Man big type of armor."

Granov's words shouldn't be taken as gospel — as someone involved with "The Avengers," it's in his best interest to talk around and guard the film's greatest secrets. Perhaps Hulkbuster is already a part of Joss Whedon's vision for Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but if it's not, it certainly should be.

Hulkbuster is one of the flashiest weapons in Tony Stark's arsenal, and with the Stark Industries head finally meeting up with the Jade Giant in "The Avengers," it seems criminal to leave the armor on the bench. Think about the explosive fight sequences that could come from the incredible Hulk slugging it out with an equally massive Iron Man. Marvel's marketing guys have to know how many toys that would sell, right?

Further, the fact that Iron Monger has its roots in the Hulkbuster design lays all the groundwork the Marvel team needs to bring the suit to the screen. "Iron Man," "Thor" and "Captain America" have all gone above and beyond the call of duty in planting the seeds for "The Avengers." Wouldn't it be nice for "Avengers" to return the favor, nodding back to the very first Marvel Studios movie by having Tony repurpose his old foe's evildoing armor for a nobler cause? That's a twice-cooked Easter Egg that fans would eat up with glee.

Will the Hulkbuster smash its way onto the big screen next summer? Who knows. But I do know this: Tony Stark has a whole lot of money, and a whole lot of money can pay for a whole lot of insanely sophisticated anti-crime armor. If it's not the Hulkbuster, then Stark better have some kind of awesome Iron Man upgrade when "Avengers" assembles on May 4, 2012.
