All day, Britney Spears is taking over MTV. That takeover includes a trailer for MTV's upcoming special about the pop star, "Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale," which will take fans inside Britney's life to see what it's like to release a highly anticipated album.

Before the trailer premieres tonight at 7:58 p.m., teasers will air throughout the day. In the sneak peeks, fans get to see Spears work on the just-released Femme Fatale, including going over final production with will.i.am on their collabo. "I did some tweaking to 'Big Fat Bass,' " the Black Eyed Peas mastermind tells Spears as she gives the song another listen.

While on the way to rehearsals for her pre-album performances — including her set this past Friday at the Palms in Las Vegas, which will be included in "Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale" — Spears admits to having some "jitterbugs." It is, after all, her first time back onstage since the Circus Tour.

In another intimate look at the singer's life, fans get to see Spears and her assistant as they go to Starbucks to take a minute for themselves in the hustle-and-bustle of a hectic schedule. "It's nice to have a peaceful moment just to sit down," Spears says. "It's nice to relax before the chaos."

That chaos included getting fans excited for her album release. On top of taking the stage in Vegas for a set full of pyro, shimmering bodysuits and flirty dance moves, Spears also pre-taped today's "Good Morning America" performance in San Francisco's Castro neighborhood. "I totally loved how her bustier was lit up," fan Corina Andrati excitedly told MTV News moments after Spears wrapped her three-song set. "I'm so blessed to be here."

Blink-182 Bring Their 'Best Game' Vs. Green Day In Musical March Madness

Two bands go head-to-head in Sweet 16 matchup; voting is live on the Newsroom blog.
By James Montgomery

As MTV's Musical March Madness reaches the Sweet 16, there are no more easy matchups remaining — though, of any band still standing, perhaps none faces a tougher road to the Elite Eight than Blink-182, who find themselves up against a resilient Green Day in the West region.

Vote in the Blink/ Green Day tilt — and all other Sweet 16 matchups — right now over on the Newsroom blog!

After all, in their run to the Sweet 16, Green Day have more than lived up to their #3 seed, vanquishing the likes of Adam Lambert and U2, and now, they'd like to add Blink's name to that list. So, with Sweet 16 voting set to close Tuesday at midnight — and with the pressure clearly mounting — we asked Blink's Mark Hoppus to give us his take on Green Day and his band's chances of reaching the MMM Elite Eight.

"We're really honored to be in the Sweet 16. But now we've got to go up against Green Day, another West Coast team, [and they're] really strong," he said. "Coming off of this break, before coming into this tournament, our live game is a little off right now, so we've been working on that a lot. Green Day obviously, they have their new [live] album, so they have their road chops up, so it's gonna be rough ... we're going to have to bring our best game for sure."

Still, despite his assessment, Hoppus seems to be ignoring the fact that Blink are actually the favorites in their battle against Green Day. After all, not only are they tournament-tested (having already bested All Time Low and the Red Hot Chili Peppers to reach the Sweet 16), but they match up surprisingly well against the East Bay legends. So, really, this one may come down to one simple factor: sheer willpower.

"It's a really strong matchup. Each of them is amazing at their game," Hoppus said. "Billie [Joe Armstrong], he's always a team leader, always boxing out, always getting the tough scores. So, really, we're going to have to cover Billie as best as we can. I think that Travis [Barker] has Tre [Cool] pretty well covered. Me and Mike [Dirnt] I'd say is a dead heat. It's going to be who wants it more, for sure."

But at the end of the day, only one band can advance to the Elite Eight, so Hoppus is relying on his secret weapon to help put Blink over the top: the band's die-hard fans.

"There's no home-team advantage for anybody, so we really need the support of our fans to come out, vote for us, give us that extra energy we need on the court to come up with this win, because it's going to be a hard one," he said. "I gotta be honest: I love Green Day. They're all great guys, so it's going to come down to the fans."

MTV's Musical March Madness has reached the Sweet 16! Voting is now open and will continue until Tuesday at midnight, when we'll roll on to the Elite Eight. All winners are determined by your votes, so if your favorite act is still standing, it's up to you to guide them to glory. You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM — but get ready, things only get tougher from here on out!

It's Femme Fatale's arrival day and Britney Spears lovers couldn't be more excited to have the singer release her seventh studio album. When MTV News caught up with a number of her fans in San Francisco on Sunday, where Spears was taping her performance for "Good Morning America" — which airs Tuesday (March 29) — they revealed why they were looking forward to this new chapter in the pop star's dynamic career.

Camille Burgess explained, "We grew up listening to her songs and she will always be amazing." Her pal Stephanie Griffin added, "She's unstoppable!"

Sarah explained that Spears' spirit is why fans will certainly scoop up copies of the singer's latest, which features production from Dr. Luke and Max Martin, as well as collaborations with artists like will.i.am. "Britney's back but she sealed the deal ... everything!" she gushed. "She's feisty! She never gives up!"

Femme Fatale is a nonstop party album, complete with sexy beats, Britney's signature cooing singing style and lots of references to wanting to get busy with hot dudes. "I've heard a couple of songs and I have to say it's definitely amazing ... She knows what she's doing," Thomas explained. "And I think she's definitely going to have some surprises up her sleeve this next album ... The entertainment power she has, the way she flaunts herself onstage, she's not afraid to be different. It's inspiring to me."

Randi mirrors Thomas' feelings on why fans have stuck with the singer through her ups and downs and are just as excited as ever for this latest release. "Why do we love her? She's awesome," said Randi. "She's an influence on everything. No matter what she does she's always going to be sexy."

Mixtapes: The Allies and Royal Flush 2

Headliner: CyHi Da Prynce

Key cameos: Big Sean, Pusha T, J. Cole, etc.

Essential info: CyHi Da Prynce knows what his next two projects are (a pair of mixtapes), but the Georgia rapper is calling on a higher power when it comes to getting a release date for his debut album. No, he's not calling on mentor Kanye West; rather, the "So Appalled" star is seeking an answer in the biblical sense.

"At the end of April, I want to put out Royal Flush 2 and I wanna release The Allies when school is coming back in," CyHi told Mixtape Daily. "Those two projects, I want them to be my last mixtapes that I put out before my album. I'm speaking my album into existence this year. God says, 'If you ask, you shall receive,' so I'm asking, and hopefully I'll receive it sometime soon. I'm sending a pigeon or something, even a text message."

For his debut, The Hard Way Musical, the G.O.O.D. Music artist is already a few songs in.

"My album is a lot of storytelling. It's heartfelt, but at the same time it's hip-hop to the T," he said of the collection. "Royal Flush is more so the different parts of me, but my album is gonna be more the story of me."

Katy Perry's much-anticipated "E.T." video will land Thursday exclusively on MTV and MTV.com.

The video — directed by Floria Sigismondi and featuring none other than Kanye West — will first premiere at noon on MTV.com, VH1.com and LogoTV.com.

"MTV First: Katy Perry's 'E.T.' " will bow on air at 7:53 p.m. ET, and then tosses to MTV.com's live stream, direct from the MTV Newsroom, featuring MTV News correspondent Sway's exclusive interview with Perry, an interview with Sigismondi, and reaction from Perry's fans.

"MTV First" caps off a full day of Katy-related content across all MTV platforms. Beginning on Thursday morning, MTV and MTV Hits will feature blocks of Perry's best-known videos, and at 5 p.m. ET, MTV's "The Seven" will feature an interview with Perry. And just before the on-air premiere of "E.T.," fans will be treated to an exclusive introduction from Katy herself.

On Friday — the day after the video's premiere — TeenNick, Logo and Tr3s will spotlight the video as part of TeenNick's "Obsess This" music block, Logo's "NewNowNext" and Tr3s' "Fresca Video."

And though the premiere is still three days away, promotion for the clip has already begun: Not only has Perry been tweeting photos of her fans after they've been "abducted" by extraterrestrials, but now it seems that both her website and Facebook page have also been taken over by the same aliens, who are communicating with fans in a bizarre written language.

Don't miss the premiere of Katy Perry's "E.T." video, featuring Kanye West, at 7:53 p.m. ET Thursday on MTV, followed by our live "MTV First" interview with Katy Perry on MTV.com!

Snoop Dogg Remembers Nate Dogg As A 'Genuine' Homey

'It was the things he did for me as a friend before I had a record deal,' Snoop tells MTV News.
By Steven Roberts

Nate Dogg was laid to rest this past weekend in his hometown of Long Beach, California. Several artists came to pay their last respects, including Dr. Dre, Daz and Kurupt. They gathered alongside the G-Funk crooner's friends and family on a gloomy Saturday morning. At his funeral, an emotional Snoop Dogg spoke about how the two attended the same high school.

"1986, Poly High School, that's where we connected for the first time," Snoop reflected on his friend. "We didn't know each other, but the music connected us. We built a brotherhood, a friendship."

On Monday (March 28), MTV News caught up with Snoop after his appearance on "The Seven," and he elaborated on what his friendship with Nate meant to him.

"As a friend, Nate Dogg, was like a brother, a homey, someone who understood Snoop Dogg, someone who understood the struggle of Snoop Dogg, because he was a part of the struggle of Snoop Dogg. We created a group, 213: me, him and Warren G, back in the late '80s that spawned our careers."

The rapper and the crooner collaborated frequently throughout their careers, recording G-Funk hits like "It Ain't No Fun" and "Bitch Please," but for Snoop it was all about the time they spent together coming up.

"His friendship meant so much to me, because it was more about before we made records, as opposed to when people [saw] us in the limelight. It was the things he did for me as a friend before I had a record deal. The belief he had in me as an artist, as a homey, and just staying down and sticking to the rules of the game. That's what made Nate so genuine."

30 Seconds To Mars, My Chemical Romance Roll On To Musical March Madness Sweet 16

Posted: 28 Mar 2011 09:12 AM PDT

Linkin Park, Panic! at the Disco, Disturbed and Sum 41 are also still in the running!
By James Montgomery

Two weeks ago, when we tipped off the 2011 Musical March Madness tournament, sixty-four bands entered the fray with championship dreams on their minds. For 32 of those bands, that dream died after one round. And for half of the remaining 32, the dream is over today.

Because we've reached the Sweet 16, the midway point on the quest for the 2011 MMM title. And while the bands still left standing would no doubt like a moment to recover from their epic battles, as any tournament vet will tell you, there's no rest for the weary. From here on out, the challenges only get tougher, and the cost of defeat is high: To come so close and leave empty-handed would be a heartbreaker, indeed.

Check out our updated MMM Bracket right here!

So just who will be left in the competition? Well, our Sweet 16 is certainly packed with some prohibitive favorites — #1 seeds 30 Seconds to Mars and Linkin Park, #2s Blink-182 and Muse, tournament-tested vets like Panic! at the Disco and Tokio Hotel, not to mention last year's champ, Coheed and Cambria — but there are also a host of underdogs still in the mix (#9 Disturbed, #16 Sum 41), and if they've survived this long, you'd be foolish to count them out now.

Sweet 16 voting is now under way over on the Newsroom blog!

Voting in the Sweet 16 will continue until Tuesday at midnight, and then it's on to the Elite 8 (we weren't kidding about that "no rest for the weary" thing). So while you consider your votes, here's a look at the matchups.

Midwest

There were upsets galore in the Midwest — #12 Patrick Stump edged #4 Rise Against, #7 Avenged Sevenfold knocked off #2 the Black Keys — though perhaps none was as huge as Disturbed's eye-opening victory over #1 the Foo Fighters, which served notice to the rest of the field that David Draiman and Co. were legitimate MMM threats. They draw Stump in the Sweet 16 and, at this point, an Elite 8 spot is a definite possibility. In the other matchup, Avenged face a tough challenge in defending champs Coheed and Cambria, who steamrolled Vampire Weekend in their second-round tilt and may very well be the team to beat in this year's tourney.

#9 Disturbed vs. #12 Patrick Stump
#6 Coheed and Cambria vs. #7 Avenged Sevenfold

West

Top-seeded 30 Seconds to Mars continue to live up to their billing, as they handled #8 Pearl Jam to earn a berth in the Sweet 16. The same can be said about #5 Panic! at the Disco, who got by #4 Florence and the Machine ... unfortunately, the two bands go head-to-head with a spot in the Elite 8 on the line. There may be no bigger matchup in the tournament to date. In the bottom half of the bracket, #3 Green Day fell behind early to #6 U2, but staged a late comeback to advance, and Blink-182 rallied the troops to knock off #7 the Red Hot Chili Peppers. And if Green Day versus Blink is the undercard, well, then you know the West was a brutal region indeed.

#1 30 Seconds to Mars vs. #5 Panic! at the Disco
#3 Green Day vs. #2 Blink-182

South

In a region that, to date, has produced more blow-out victories than any other in the 2011 MMM tournament, it's fitting that the four bands left standing were the ones who did all of the blowing out. #1 Linkin Park ripped #8 R.E.M. in the second round, #5 Paramore surged past #4 Kings of Leon, #14 Tokio Hotel breezed by #11 Adele and #2 Muse easily handled #7 Weezer. Will any of the South's Sweet 16 matchups be close? We're willing to bet that this time out, they'll buck the region's trends. We could be in for a pair of thrillers.

#1 Linkin Park vs. #5 Paramore
#14 Tokio Hotel vs. #2 Muse

East

At this point, is there anyone who can stop Sum 41? The 16th-seeded Canadian quartet continued their VCU-like run through the MMM tourney, scoring their second-straight upset victory when they sent #8 Coldplay packing in round two. In the Sweet 16, they'll face off against #4 the Strokes, who handled #5 Phoenix with relative ease in the second round ... and, frankly, we like Sum's chances (even if Deryck Whibley doesn't). In the bottom half of the bracket, #3 My Chemical Romance — who took down #11 Rage Against Machine in round two — and #2 Radiohead, who ripped #7 Owl City, square off in a matchup that's the very definition of a style clash.

#16 Sum 41 vs. #4 the Strokes
#3 My Chemical Romance vs. #2 Radiohead

MTV's Musical March Madness has reached the Sweet 16! Voting is now open and will continue until Tuesday at midnight, when we'll roll on to the Elite 8. All winners are determined by your votes, so, if your favorite act is still standing, it's up to you to guide them to glory. You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM — but get ready, things only get tougher from here on out!

Britney Spears Was 'Over-The-Top' In Las Vegas, Palms Owner Says

'Anytime Britney comes to the Palms, we always welcome her with open arms,' George Maloof tells MTV News.

Last Friday, Britney Spears brought her own razzle-dazzle to the already-glittering city of Las Vegas. She played a fan-pleasing three-song set at Rain nightclub at the Palms Hotel and Casino, where the show was being taped for an MTV special airing this week.

Hours before Britney took the stage, MTV News caught up with Palms owner George Maloof, who gushed about how awesome it was to have Britney on hand for her first Femme Fatale live performance.

"I think this one's going to be really over-the-top," he said of Spears' show, which will be included in the MTV special. "And we're all excited about her new album, and I heard it's spectacular, so here we go: Britney Spears at the Palms."

Spears hyped the release of Femme Fatale in a big way during Friday's nightclub set, performing lead singles "Hold It Against Me" and "Till the World Ends" while also debuting the will.i.am-produced "Big Fat Bass." Each track required a new body-hugging costume — including a black latex catsuit covered in red LED lights — to accommodate her trademark dance moves.

Check out photos from Britney's Las Vegas show.

Maloof, who has known Britney for the better part of the last decade, said that while he's friendly with the star, he's still excited that she chose his hotel for the performance. "It's the biggest star in the world, so it's an honor for us. And anytime Britney comes to the Palms, we always welcome her with open arms, so it's going to be great," he said. "We try and keep it a secret. It's pretty difficult in this day and age, but there's so much anticipation."

Spears wasn't the only big name on the marquee for the show. "Jersey Shore" star DJ Pauly D was also on hand to warm up the crowd. "Pauly D is one of our resident DJs, so we bring the Palms and Pauly D, pop culture together here with Britney Spears, and it's going to be a madhouse."

For fans who couldn't be at the Vegas show themselves, Maloof set the scene: "I think they're going to see pyrotechnics. I think they're going to see a very sexy show in a very unique and intimate venue that's one-of-a-kind. ... It'll be a lot of fun. I want to hear the songs. I'm excited about the album, so that's what I'm looking forward to. I know she can perform, I know she can dance, and I'm just waiting for this great album."

After months of video and song teasers, Spears' Femme Fatale is due in stores Tuesday, which will also be "Britney Takeover Day" on MTV.

Will you be first in line for Britney's new album on Tuesday? Let us know in the comments!

Mindless Behavior might be made up of four boys in their early teens, but that hasn't stopped them from grabbing the attention of established stars like Ciara, Lil Twist and Tyga, who are all featured on the remix of their hit debut single "My Girl."

The remix video debuted on BET's "106 and Park" on Monday (March 28), and MTV was on the set with the young stars a few weeks ago, just days before they kicked off their tour as Janet Jackson's opening act.

" 'My Girl' needs to just branch out," said Ray Ray, surrounded by his bandmates. " 'My Girl' is the best record ever!"

As a follow-up to their video for the original version of the song, the 'My Girl' remix video delivers plenty of choreographed dancing, references to the art and etiquette of text messaging, and teenage girls dancing around the miniature heartthrobs.

In the video, Ciara dances alongside Mindless Behavior in an industrial-like setting. Lil Twist and Tyga rap in a room full of excited fans while the boys dance along.

"A year ago, we were fans of these artists," Princeton noted. "And now we're working with them. Just to know that is great."

Ciara jumped at the opportunity to work alongside the boys. "These kids are stars to me, and they asked me to be part of the remix," she said. "I was like, 'I'm gonna be a part of this!' "

Once a teen prodigy herself, Ciara already shared something in common with Mindless Behavior. "I remember when I was young. It's really just about being a part of something that's young and fresh and something that I believe in. In this case, they're young and I want to make sure I fit in that way. I give them the young 'CiCi' in me, I guess you could say."

MIAMI — On its third and final day, the Ultra Music Festival delivered a blazing one-two punch of trance and house star power for the 50,000 fans in attendance on closing day of the annual get-together held at Bicentennial Park.

The Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am joined an impressive roster of house-music performers that included Laidback Luke, Steve Aoki, Erick Morillo, Robbie Rivera, Wolfgang Gartner and David Guetta.

Dutch trance music star Armin van Buuren celebrated the 500th broadcast of his A State of Trance show, this time dubbed ASOT 500, in honor of the milestone. The show filled in the slot normally taken by Carl Cox's stage on Friday and Saturday, and van Buuren brought some well-known trance-DJ friends like Cosmic Gate, Gareth Emery, Ferry Corsten, ATB and the night's closer, Sander Van Doorn, all of whom helped to pack a few thousand fans into the tent, chest to back, to capacity.

Just before 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, AVB joined friend/countryman/collaborator Corsten onstage. But a hug and a few jokes later and it was van Buuren's turn to steer the ASOT 500 ship, and he throttled into his set. Van Buuren also held down hosting duties throughout the night, revealing in an on air-interview with ATB the pair have collaborated on a track titled "Vice Versa."

On the main stage, Gartner didn't just hit fans with hits like "Spacejunk," "Illmerica," and his deadmau5 collabo, "Animal Rights." He also tested out a few new songs, including still-unreleased gems "818," and his next single, the electro-house banger "Forever," which features vocals by will.i.am.

Later, house legend Morillo blessed the crowd with three top-notch vocalists: Rachel Starr, former Pussycat Doll Jessica Sutta, and powerhouse singer Shawnee Taylor took turns joining him onstage. Fans sang along with Taylor as she belted the hits "Stronger" and "Live Your Life" among others. Finally, Diddy joined his buddy Morillo onstage, dropping his bars from Dirty South's remix of Diddy-Dirty Money's "Coming Home," a Miami Music Week DJ-set staple.

David Guetta was feeling particularly electro-clubby. He hammered fans with hair-raising renditions of his material, kicking things off with "Gettin' Over You," and then a baritone horn-driven thumper of a tune that some fans may have heard days before at Mansion.

Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am joined Guetta onstage at various points of the night, adding vocals to Guetta's remixes of BEP hits "The Time," and "I Gotta Feeling." But probably the more unexpected cameo was Flo Rida, who showed up with an entourage of Super Soaker-wielding friends and charged onto the stage for the Guetta/Flo hit "Club Can't Handle Me."

Perhaps the most moving moment of the day came when rising star Afrojack joined Guetta and addressed the audience. "Miami, last year, I played here for the first time, through David," Afrojack said. "I had a great time. David is all about the love. David, I love you. Miami, I love you. This guy is the f---ing sh--! So Miami, make some noise for David Guetta!"

Needless to say, the crowd seemed to agree with the 22-year-old Dutch phenom. They returned his request with a roar.

Rick Ross might not have gotten his man in Wiz Khalifa, who he wanted to ink to a deal with his Maybach Music Group, but the Miami boss' first pick, Wale, wasn't a bad backup.

Ross thinks the Washington, D.C., rhyme spitter has a chance to follow in the footsteps of another guy who was also considered "unconventional" when he first signed on with his crew. Wale could be the next Kanye West, Ross told MTV News.

"They may be unconventional, but to me, it comes naturally," Ross said about moving to sign Wale and Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill.

"After spending months of my summer working with Kanye, I learned and seen so many different visions and ideas come to light. I was there for 'Flashing Lights,' when it was actually titled another title that me and Kanye went back and forth about. And when I think about Wale, I think about Kanye.

"And the kind of rhymes Wale has been laying down the last few months, since we been in the studio, I'm pretty sure there's gonna be a lot of similarities as far as the pictures that he paints," the Bawse continued. "Of course, Kanye is one of the greats of our time but I see that same potential in Wale."

At the moment, Ross and his MMG roster, which also includes Pill, his Triple C fam and Masspike Miles, among others, are working on the Self Made compilation set to arrive on "Maybach 24." Ross suggested Wale's next solo album should be out "two to three months after that" group project.

While the Maybach Music head said Wale is poised to make big waves, the Miami MC was making waves of his own over the weekend, but probably not the kind he's aiming for. Ross was arrested on Friday in Louisiana on a marijuana possession charges and subsequently released with a misdemeanor summons. Ross is now in New York and scheduled to take the stage in Long Island on Monday night (March 28) as part of Lil Wayne's I Am Still Music Tour lineup.

What do you think of Ross comparing Wale to Kanye? Tell us in the comments!

"How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" star Daniel Radcliffe will perform the same routine eight times a week on Broadway for the rest of the year and into 2012, but the actor will happily take that relative monotony instead of the exhaustive rehearsals he's endured for the last several months.

"It feels very good to have opened — it really does," he told MTV News following the musical's premiere Sunday. "We've had a long-ish preview period — I can't say long anymore because of 'Spider-Man' — but it feels great to be here and know the show is set now and we don't have to rehearse during the day and we get to chill out. Honestly, coming in and doing a two-and-a-half-hour show every evening will seem like a holiday after the last couple months."

The work has clearly paid off, as reviews for his performance have been largely positive. "Daniel Radcliffe is so adorable in his Broadway musical debut, you just want to pinch his cheeks," wrote the New York Post. "It's not just his youth — the 'Harry Potter' star is 21 — but the endearing amount of dedication and enthusiasm he pours into steering the [play]."

That's got to feel good for a guy who's gone on record that he has no particular talent for singing and dancing. But Radcliffe put in the work, and now he's looking forward to a bit more time to himself. Not that he's got ambitious plans for his downtime.

When MTV News asked if he'll have a chance to enjoy New York City, he said, "I will be able to now because the day-to-day rehearsal will have stopped. I'm just kind of relaxing and reading and chilling out. You know this; I don't do anything interesting!"

Will Ferrell, Jon Stewart Crack Jokes At The Comedy Awards

'The Golden Globes celebrate comedies every year — comedies like 'Burlesque' and 'The Tourist,' ' Andy Samberg points out to MTV News.

If there were an awards show to celebrate the very best in comedy, you'd probably want Will Ferrell and Adam McKay there on the red carpet riffing about how "The Other Guys" was snubbed at the Oscars and now finally their genius is being recognized.

"I was with Will during the Academy Awards, and he slowly got drunker and said, 'What about my kind?' " you'd want McKay to say.

"I kept saying, 'It has to be nominated! It has to be on there!' " Ferrell would answer.

"And I said, 'Will, we know ahead of time if it's going to be nominated," McKay would respond.

And Ferrell would shoot back, "'No, tonight's going to special! They're going to announce a secret nomination.' "

Here's the funny thing: There is such an awards show — Comedy Central held the first annual Comedy Awards on Saturday night — and that exchange is exactly how Ferrell and McKay began a red-carpet chat with MTV News. And as other celebs joined them on the carpet — Jon Stewart, Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Andy Samberg, Tracy Morgan — they picked up on Ferrell and McKay's theme: Does comedy need an awards show, or is laughter all the reward comedians need?

"It's all about winning things!" Andy Richter declared. "That's the reason we all got into this. It's all about trinkets and trophies."

Not so, said Stewart. "I'm not sure anything needs acknowledgement anymore, especially in the show-business arena," the "Daily Show" host told us. "But here's what I think it is: These carpets get no other use, and it would be wasteful not to use them. If you think about it that way, none of this is necessary."

Samberg, meanwhile, deadpanned that before the Comedy Awards, there was one show in particular around to reward the funniest people of the year. "The Golden Globes celebrate comedies every year — comedies like 'Burlesque' and 'The Tourist,' " he said. "And 'Chicago' — another hilarious comedy. So no, we don't need this night."

Britney Spears Is A True 'Superstar,' San Francisco Drag Queens Say

Britney Spears had a busy weekend. She performed for her fans in San Francisco, just days after she graced the stage in Las Vegas at the Palms, where MTV was filming her for an upcoming special.

At her San Francisco show, which was being taped for "Good Morning America," Spears had five drag queens in over-the-top costumes warm up the crowd with their sassy back-and-forth. After the performance, MTV News caught up with two of the queens, who told us it was a lot of fun opening for the femme fatale.

"As a huge Britney fan, it was amazing," Pollo Del Mar told us. "I was excited just to have Britney Spears here in San Francisco, but to participate and be a part of it was amazing."

"It was a treat," Donna Sachet added. "I had a great time up there. Five drag queens, all different types of drag, we loved it. We were complimented that Britney wanted to start with something like that."

During her set, Spears performed three tracks from Femme Fatale, out Tuesday, and Pollo gushed that the pop star did a great job.

"I thought it was amazing," Pollo said. "It shows why she's a superstar and certainly I think that the crowd response showed that she's beloved. ... The reason I love Britney Spears is throughout her career, she's shown she's human, she's fallible ... I think that makes her someone people can rally behind and love."

Spears performance featured three eye-catching costumes, complete with sequins, latex and lights. "We do get ideas from her costuming and from her dancers and her energy," Donna admitted.

Fans were equally dazzled by Spears' set. "It was amazing," a fan named Sarah told us after the show wrapped. "It was so hot! We live here in the city, and she was sexier than ever and I'd go lesbian for her. She really blew it up."

My Chemical Romance have announced plans to release a charity version of their song "Sing," with all proceeds going to the Red Cross' disaster relief efforts in Japan. But they're not doing it alone. Instead, they're reaching out to members of their MCRmy to help the cause.

The band is asking fans to submit videos, pictures, drawings and written messages to the people of Japan through social sites like Twitter — using the hashtag #SINGItForJapan — which they'll then compile into a video to be paired with the song.

"We'd like to send messages of hope to Japan from people all over the world. ... Go wherever your creativity and heart takes you. It could be as simple as you holding up a sign with '#SINGItForJapan' written on it, or anything else you can dream up," guitarist Ray Toro wrote on the band's official site. "From what we've seen on tour, we know you guys can dream bigger than we ever could. Don't be afraid to get your families involved. If you are inspired to do something alone, that's great too. But we encourage you to get a big group of people from your community together. We want Japan to know just how many people are behind them."

Toro added that the band got the idea after noticing that, in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunamis that ravaged Japan, fans were sending messages of support to the nation using the hashtag.

"After the news of the earthquake and tsunami spread, I did what most people did. I stopped and stared at the TV. I sat at the computer, constantly refreshing CNN in hopes of some good news," he wrote. "And I went to Twitter to see what people were saying. I noticed a hashtag, 'SINGItForJapan,' where you kids were writing messages of hope, saying prayers and sending your condolences and well wishes to survivors. It moved me in a profound way."

The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, March 30, at 8 p.m. ET. There's no news on just when the band's new version of "Sing" will be made available, but for more information — and to submit material for #SINGItForJapan — check out My Chemical Romance's official site.

Will Weak 'Sucker Punch' Showing Affect Zack Snyder's 'Superman'?

Critics, Hollywood insiders weigh in the possibility that the director may be removed from the upcoming superhero reboot.

There was a time, after "Dawn of the Dead" and "300," when few might have argued against handing Superman's cape to director Zack Snyder and telling him, "Resurrect this franchise!" Then came his polarizing adaptation of "Watchmen" and a disappointing box-office performance in "Legend of the Guardians," neither of which prevented Warner Bros. from giving Snyder the "Superman" gig last October. Now, though, in the wake of the critical drubbing and weak opening weekend of "Sucker Punch," some industry insiders suspect that the studio and its corporate parent are starting to wonder if Snyder — a director with a keen visual eye but not always the deftest storytelling touch — is truly the right man for the job.

In fact, David Poland of Movie City News even speculated that the director might end up departing the production. "Next month would be the moment when Snyder 'decides to do a more personal project,' if he was being given the heave-ho," the critic told MTV News.

Not that Poland or anyone else is suggesting that Snyder has one foot out the door. Certainly helping matters is that "The Dark Knight Rises" director Christopher Nolan has taken on a much-vaunted "godfather" role on "Superman."

"With Nolan shepherding 'Superman,' Warner Bros. will likely have complete trust in their collective vision as they attempt to reboot one of Hollywood's golden franchises," said Jeff Bock, box-office analyst for entertainment-research firm Exhibitor Relations. "Yes, 'Sucker Punch' is a creative and financial disappointment, and probably the last time in quite a while that Snyder will be given free reign over a film, but he was never going to have that creative autonomy with 'Superman' regardless."

Yet Nolan's guidance is hardly enough to ensure "Superman" success on the level of "Batman Begins" or "The Dark Knight." James Cameron, for instance, took on an executive-producer role on "Sanctum" — one can clearly see his input both in the visuals and the storyline — but no one would argue that the film resides in the same creative universe as "Avatar." What's more, it remains unclear how engaged Nolan will be as he readies production on "The Dark Knight Rises."

"How involved will Nolan really be? His ['Batman'] casting is ahead of 'Superman''s," said Poland. "[Is] Nolan godfathering Snyder or just WB? Is he there to give script notes or to really assert an influence? It's an unknown."

Poland maintains that Snyder's hiring always seemed to be a move spearheaded by Warner Bros. Pictures Group president Jeff Robinov rather than Nolan, since the two directors possess vastly different stylistic vocabularies. In this sense, it may not be that WB is reassessing Snyder so much as that Robinov's higher-ups at Time Warner are.

"[I]t's more about the bosses second-guessing. Will the noise level turn [CEO] Jeff Bewkes' head?" noted Poland. "Could another 'Superman' flop — meaning just $400 million worldwide, hit numbers for most films — change how Jeff Robinov is seen inside the company? ... I do believe that [Snyder] is Robinov's guy and that Robinov's career is on the line here."

It's important to note, however, that Warner Bros. certainly knew what it had in "Sucker Punch" before hiring Snyder — its commercial and critical reception couldn't have come as an inordinate surprise. Nor was its box-office debut ($19 million) especially shocking, according to Gitesh Pandya, editor of BoxOfficeGuru.com. "The opening was only a tad bit below expectations," he said. "If a branded film like 'Watchmen' opened like this, then it would be a big deal. The visuals were impressive and that's a major factor when it comes to a superhero tentpole. Many directors with far less action experience were handed comic-book epics before."

But even action-savvy helmers have faltered with "Superman." Just ask Bryan Singer. The thing is, after Singer's "Superman Returns" failed to resonate with the public in 2006, Warner Bros. can hardly afford to stumble again. According to Bock, WB understands that "it's do or die time," and continues to have confidence that its pairing of Snyder and Nolan was the right choice.

"[T]hey needed Nolan in a godfather capacity, and Snyder to up the hip quotient," Bock said. "Snyder knows how to create a dynamic spectacle on the silver screen, as he has shown with '300' and 'Dawn of the Dead,' and with Nolan guiding the story process, 'Superman' may just be the next big thing — again."

It's nearing that time of year when the hottest acts in music come together to take the stage for 102.7 KIIS-FM's Wango Tango in Los Angeles. On Monday (March 28), Ryan Seacrest took to his morning radio show to announce that he and Britney Spears will co-host the annual music fest, which will feature performances from Ke$ha, Jennifer Lopez and Selena Gomez.

Other acts scheduled for the concert event include Pitbull, Far East Movement, Jason DeRulo, Lupe Fiasco, T-Pain, New Boys and Cobra Starship. YouTube sensation Cody Simpson will round out the star-studded performance roster.

While Spears may just be hitting the stage as special guest co-host, the "Hold It Against Me" singer, coming off of hot weekend shows in Las Vegas and San Francisco, is no stranger to the Wango Tango stage. When her career was just taking off in 1999, the pop star performed at the annual festival and returned a few years later in 2001 to guest-host the festivities.

Tickets for Wango Tango 2011, which takes place May 14 at the Staples Center, go on sale to KISS Club VIPs on Friday, April 1, and to the general public on Saturday, April 2. Fans may also want to keep an eye on the hit radio station's Facebook page, where they revealed they will be giving away meet-and-greet passes for Ke$ha.

Wiz Khalifa Wants To Rap Over 'Really Tight' Mumford & Sons Song

Spring Break is a chance for willing college kids to try something new. So in the spirit of the yearly tradition, Wiz Khalifa — one of the performers at MTV's Spring Break 2011, along with Snoop Dogg, Pitbull and Lupe Fiasco — spoke to MTV News about experimenting with rhyming.

We asked the "Black and Yellow" star whose music he would pick if he could rap over any other artist's song.

"Mumford & Sons, they got a really tight song that I wanna rap over," Wiz said. "That I would totally rap over if I had the chance to 'cause usually, when I see the video or hear the song, I get it real quick but now I have to ask again. I forgot. [Editor's note: Wiz is likely referring either to M&S singles "Little Lion Man" or "The Cave."] "They're tight and really musical," he said about the West London quartet. "I like the instruments they use, like bongos. It's tight and acceptable."

Although Wiz took to the Las Vegas stage joined by his DJ, the Pittsburgh rapper said he also had a band in mind if he needed a crew to back him: the Disco Biscuits.

"They're hard," he explained. "It's just sound-y. When you get that vibe and that music, it just feels good and makes you feel a certain way when you hear it."

Khalifa, an MTV News 11 for '11 pick, is set to celebrate his major-label debut on Tuesday, when Rolling Papers arrives in stores and at online retailers.

"We got a couple of surprises along the way to keep people interested," he told MTV News last month. "But really, other than that, the album is done. We're really excited. Everyone is excited. [Warner Music Group executive] Lyor [Cohen] came through to a session. I got so much support from the single and going into the album. So when we do drop it, I think we'll get that response that everyone was expecting."

Catch Wiz performing in Las Vegas during MTV's Spring Break on Monday night (March 28) on MTV at 9:50 p.m. ET.
