One of the unexpected pleasures and surprises during this new season of "American Idol" has undoubtedly been the addition of judge Steven Tyler. Whether waiting for his next endearing words of encouragement or recapping his numerous outlandish and creative expletives, America is having as much fun watching Tyler as he seems to be having himself.

And aside from Tyler's newfound fans, via "Idol," no one is more thrilled for his resurgence in popularity than his daughter Liv. When MTV News caught up with her while promoting her new film "Super" recently, we asked for her thoughts on her dad's new gig.

"I haven't been watching every single [episode], which I feel really bad about, but I've been watching a lot and I love it," Tyler revealed. "I feel really proud of him and happy for him. He's had a rough few years, a couple of years in particular, and I'm really happy for him that he's enjoying himself so much," she said."

Liv went on to say that she always knew how much fun he was, but she is glad everyone else is getting to see the other side to his rock-star persona too.

"He's so happy and naturally good at what he's doing, it's really nice," she said. "It's so funny for me, everybody keeps coming up to me going, 'Your dad, he's so sweet and he's so funny!' And of course it's the man that I've known my whole life, who tells all those kinds of jokes and has that big heart," Tyler said with a smile. "I'm really happy for him."

Selena Gomez Says Her Next Album Is 'More Mature'

Selena Gomez isn't a little girl anymore. She's 18, in a high-profile romance and has left Disney Channel's "Wizards of Waverly Place" behind for less tween fare. Her next step also includes her forthcoming album and the empowering first single "Who Says."

"We haven't decided [a] title [yet for the album] and we're dealing with the album artwork, 'cause it is very different and I'm growing up," she told MTV News. "It's a lot more mature."

Gomez admits that she really loves stepping out of the Disney shadow to grow up in a big way on this album. "I'm growing," she said. "I'm constantly changing, and it's fun being able to express that for my fans. So this album is a huge rave; it really is. It's funky, it's different. I'm liking it."

The album will not feature any duets or collaborations, but Gomez does have a wish list just in case she feels the need to throw someone on one of the tracks between now and the summer release date. "All of it is pretty much me," she said of the yet-untitled album. "I love Bruno Mars; I'm obsessed with him. I love B.o.B. I love Adele's new record; it's insane. I would love to even just meet her."

Gomez has previously shared that "there's a lot more depth [on this album]." She has tracks on it that fully express the wide range of emotions she feels as a young woman in the spotlight. "There is one [song] that I'm completely in love with, and it was written by Pixie Lott, who I am obsessed with," she said. "And it's my mom's favorite song. It's very sweet. It's kind of a ballad, but not really. It's basically about living in the moment; it's about enjoying right now. I'm very much enjoying right now. I'm in a good place."

Jennifer Hudson Says I Remember Me Reflects 'Different Chapters'

'In 29 years, I've lived four different lives,' she tells MTV News about title of her just-released album.

Jennifer Hudson is declaring I Remember Me on her new album, which drops this week. The album is the singer's follow-up to her lauded 2008 self-titled debut, but this time around Hudson's life is much different than it was three years ago.

Hudson has a fiancé, a son and several big-time awards under her belt, including Grammys and an Oscar. Hudson was also struck by tragedy in 2008, when her mom, brother and nephew were murdered by her sister's estranged husband. With all the accolades and changes in her life, Jennifer says she found the perfect title for her sophomore release.

"I decided to name the album I Remember Me 'cause I feel like, in 29 years, I've lived four different lives and there's nothing the same as it was 10 years ago for me today, and so that's where it came from."

Hudson hooked up with Ryan Tedder, Diane Warren, Alicia Keys and even R. Kelly, who was working behind the scenes on the diva's latest opus without her knowledge. And this album will reflect on both the good and the bad she's experienced so far.

"I feel like my life is different chapters of a book," she explained. "It's like, OK, what's going to happen in this next chapter or this chapter is completely different than the first one, so that's why [it's called I Remember Me]."

Hudson said that she's been through a kind of transformation, both emotionally and physically, and the new album is teaching her things about herself too.

"Oh my god! It's like a new me. It's like a new introduction of myself — for myself and to others as well — in every way, from image to music to everything," she said. "And it's like, in a way, for me I'm rediscovering myself at the same time. I like the old me too ... if I could just marry the two together, then I feel like I'm in good shape."

Plans for Nate Dogg's funeral and wake are starting to shape up, according to a source close to the late singer's family.

Nate Dogg died last week of yet-undetermined causes. The "Regulate" star suffered two strokes in recent years and never fully recovered from the setbacks brought on by the second one, his manager, Rod McGrew, told the media.

The crooner is tentatively set to be laid to rest this Saturday with a ceremony preceding the event at the Long Beach Airport, which will be open to fans, according to the family friend. The next day, another tentative event is in the works: a memorial benefit at the Los Angeles Convention Center hosted by DJ Quik.

McGrew did not respond to MTV News' request for comment about the events; a representative for Quik was unable to confirm the information when we contacted him.

Warren G, who teamed with Nate Dogg for his hit "Regulate," spoke to MTV News about his friend's death following a South by Southwest tribute concert.

"I was out on the Sweat Tour with Snoop, and we had got the word from his family on what was going on, and it was just a crushing blow for us," he said. "Just from going to see him and lifting his spirits up when he was in therapy and stuff like that, it's just crazy for that to happen. And I still don't believe it, you know what I'm saying?

"It kind of hurts me when I look at this shirt [the organizers of the SXSW tribute show sold Nate Dogg T-shirts, with proceeds going to the late singer's family], it's like, 'Damn, that's my homeboy on this shirt,' " he continued. "And I'm hurting, and you know, a lot of people are showing tons of support for his family, for his homeboys, and we really and truly appreciate that. It's real love."

Share your well-wishes for Nate Dogg's friends and family in the comments.

30 Seconds To Mars, Linkin Park Survive To March Madness Round 2

Blink-182, My Chemical Romance, Panic! at the Disco also advance; second-round voting opens Tuesday on the Newsroom blog.

The first round of MTV's Musical March Madness 2011 tournament is in the books, and, unlike the actual NCAA bracket, ours has been relatively free of upsets so far. In fact, about the closest thing we've got to a VCU is Sum 41, who shocked the world by knocking off #1 seed Arcade Fire in the battle of Canada.

Check out our updated MMM Bracket right here!

There were, of course, other eye-opening results: #11 Adele nipping #6 Kid Rock, #12 Patrick Stump getting by #5 Neon Trees (who couldn't muster the bluster of Gene Hackman to advance), and #9 Disturbed ripping #8 Dave Matthews Band. But overall, the first round played out about how you would expect it. And while that may have been a bummer for fans of underdogs, it's also a great thing for the tournament, because with the lesser bands tossed to the wayside, what we're left with is a bracket positively loaded with talent. Let's take a look, region-by-region.

Second-round voting begins Tuesday over on the Newsroom blog.

Midwest

The top-seeded Foo Fighters cruised past #16 the Damned Things, #2 the Black Keys wiped the floor with #15 Bret Michaels, #3 Vampire Weekend got by #14 Bright Eyes ... in short, the higher-ranked bands did quite well in the first round. In fact, aside from Disturbed's and Patrick Stump's wins, about the only shocking result to come out of the Midwest was #4 Rise Against knocking off #13 Pete Wentz (and Black Cards), whom many had circled as a potential dark horse favorite. Oh, and defending champs Coheed and Cambria also had a strong showing, only further cementing their cause to repeat. Here are our second-round matchups.

#1 Foo Fighters vs. #9 Disturbed
#12 Patrick Stump vs. #4 Rise Against
#6 Coheed and Cambria vs. #3 Vampire Weekend
#7 Avenged Sevenfold vs. #2 The Black Keys

Voting in the Midwest Region tips off Tuesday over on the Newsroom blog.

West

Another region that saw the favorites do very well: #1 30 Seconds to Mars ripped (very game) #16 Yellowcard, #2 Blink-182 took care of business against #15 All Time Low (despite some rather spirited trash talk from the ATL guys), #3 Green Day overcame #14 Adam Lambert, etc. In fact, there wasn't a higher-seeded team that lost in the West, which makes the second-round a defacto "Bracket of Death." Here's a look:

#1 30 Seconds to Mars vs. #8 Pearl Jam
#5 Panic at the Disco vs. #4 Florence & the Machine
#6 U2 vs. #3 Green Day
#7 Red Hot Chili Peppers vs. #2 Blink-182

Voting in the West Region starts Wednesday over on the Newsroom blog.

South

Once again, the big boys took care of business: #1 Linkin Park smothered #16 Sleigh Bells, #2 Muse murdered #15 Cobra Starship, #5 Paramore rallied late to knock off #12 No Doubt. But there were some upsets in the South. #14 Tokio Hotel held off a game #2 Mumford & Sons, and #11 Adele slipped by #6 Kid Rock. In the second-round, we're left with a bracket that's loaded with blockbuster matchups (the Paramore/ Kings of Leon tilt should be a barn-burner), with only four bands advancing to the Sweet 16. Here's where we stand in round #2:

#1 Linkin Park vs. #8 R.E.M.
#5 Paramore vs. #4 Kings of Leon
#11 Adele vs. #14 Tokio Hotel
#7 Weezer vs. #2 Muse

Voting in the South Region begins Thursday over on the Newsroom blog.

East

Things didn't quite pan out the way the experts had predicted in the East, as #16 Sum 41 throttled #1 Arcade Fire -- the kind of upset that just never happens in the NCAAs (seriously, it has never happened), and #11 Rage Against The Machine took down #6 Cage the Elephant. Those shockers set up some potentially thrilling second-round matchups (Rage/ My Chem should be a classic), and the guys in Sum face another tough challenge in Coldplay. Here's a look:

#15 Sum 41 vs. #8 Coldplay
#5 Phoenix vs. #4 the Strokes
#11 Rage Against the Machine vs. #3 My Chemical Romance
#7 Owl City vs. #2 Radiohead

Voting in the East Region launches Friday over on the Newsroom blog.

MTV's Musical March Madness moves on to the second round! Voting begins Tuesday and continues until Sunday, at which point we'll move on to the Sweet 16. All winners are determined by your votes, so if your favorite act is still in the tournament, it's be up to you to guide them to glory. You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM -- but get ready, things only get tougher from here on out!

Chris Brown Calls 'Look At Me Now' His 'First Rap Video'

C.Breezy gets assists from Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes and dons Jordans for his best Mars Blackmon impression in bouncy new clip.
By Rebecca Thomas

It's gotta be the moves. Chris Brown, all rubbery limbs and sporting a Mars Blackmon-inspired bicycle cap, shows off some fleet-footed footwork in his new "Look at Me Now" video. With looks from Young Money captain Lil Wayne and a fire-breathing Busta Rhymes, a pile of '90s-era baggy sweats and tees, a series of ferocious dance battles, as well as an ode to those classic Nike/Jordan spots, the dizzying clip leaves you breathless. And that's exactly how Chris wanted it.

" 'Look at Me Now' is kind of like my first rap, rap video," Chris laughed when he sat down with MTV News on Friday. "I wanted to do like old school, not really old school but, like, back-in-the-day [style]."

Back in the day, for the 21-year-old, meant reviving 1990s staples like "big baggy clothes" and "a lot of art, graffiti." "I tried to blend all of those components into one and make it fun and exciting," he told us.

With the song's swirling production (courtesy of Diplo and Jean Baptiste) setting the breakneck pace, the Collin Tilley-directed video for "Look at Me Now" lets C.Breezy showcase his inner-MC — Brown instructs his doubters to "say hi" to a section of his anatomy some fans may now be all too familiar with — but it also lets him play with his budding Renaissance Man thing, capturing Chris as crooner, dancer and artist.

In several hilarious frames, the F.A.M.E. singer turns up cheesing in the horn-rimmed glasses and baseball jersey that were the signature of director Spike Lee's Mars Blackmon creation, a bespectacled superfan who hawked Jordans in the early '90s for Nike. In those vintage ads, Mars set out to decode just what made baller Michael Jordan "the best player in the universe" — eventually ruling out the extra-long shorts, the haircut, etc., and zeroing in one element: "it's gotta be the shoes."

"I kind of did the Mars Blackmon outfit with the Brooklyn [hat] and the whole [outfit], I always was a fan of that and that was always fresh to me when I saw Spike Lee with Jordan," Chris explained. "So I was like, man, I'mma do that outfit just to pay tribute to him."

Of course, Chris didn't pull off his first official hip-hop vid on his own. Assists from Lil Tunechi and Busta give the visual added heft. And Brown said the song, like the video, works because the collabos are organic. (Weezy's a longtime collaborator and Busta's rapid-fire flow feels tailor-made for the track.)

"Working with Wayne is always incredible. I've had Wayne on every single album I've done," he added. "Being able to work with these guys is incredible," he said of Bus and Wayne. "I think I build most of my collaborations off of the relationships that I built with these guys over the years."

Chris' new album, F.A.M.E., drops on Tuesday.

"RapFix Live" is back Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET, and our special guest is G.O.O.D. Music/ Def Jam rapper Big Sean. The Detroit MC and 2010 XXL Freshmen 10 alum will be fresh from rocking South by Southwest this past weekend with Jay-Z and his G.O.O.D Music family, including mentor Kanye West.

Big Sean first made a name for himself about four years ago when his song "Getcha Some" was a standout on West's Can't Tell Me Nothing mixtape.

After catching Yeezy at a radio station and impressing him with an impromptu audition, Sean passed on a scholarship to Michigan State University to tour with West and eventually signed with the Chicago rapper's G.O.O.D. Music imprint in 2007.

Since then, Sean has released three volumes of his Finally Famous mixtapes (The Mixtape, U Know Big Sean and BIG) to keep his fans satiated, and he was also a regular on West's G.O.O.D. Friday music leaks. After a few delays, Sean's long-in-the-making debut album, Finally Famous: The Album, has an official release date of May 3.

Right now, Sean can be heard on the album's No I.D.-produced lead single "My Last," which features R&B crooner Chris Brown.

"I've seen and [gone] from doing shows in Detroit and getting booed to people just looking to a couple people knowing the words to doing sold-out shows with thousands and thousands of people just knowing [my songs]," Sean told MTV News from the set of the video for "My Last." "And it [comes from] years of grinding, man."

Sean performed the song at SXSW and the Detroit spitter also has a verse on West's soon-to-be-released "All of the Lights" remix with Drake and Lil Wayne.

Don't miss "RapFix Live" with Big Sean on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com.

Some of pop music's biggest artists, including Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj, are lending their tunes for a good cause. On Monday (March 21), it was announced that Universal Music is rushing out a digital-only compilation album to raise awareness and funds for those affected by the 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan.

While the lineup and track list have yet to be finalized, other chart-toppers expected to be featured on the release include U2 and Bon Jovi. Lady Gaga may also appear on the album. Proceeds from sales will go to the Japanese Red Cross.

"We are doing it only digitally because it is faster, and this will be a worldwide release. The plan is to have it available later this week," a spokesperson for Universal Music said.

In order to maximize proceeds, the record label plans to find more acts willing to waive royalties that would have come from having their tracks appear on the compilation.

Universal Music is not the only music-industry player reaching to support Japan disaster relief. Most recently, the Black Eyed Peas announced that the music video for their tune "Just Can't Get Enough" would be used to promote awareness and funds for victims of the tragic event. The clip, which was shot in Japan one week before the earthquake and tsunami hit, finds the BEP bandmates traveling throughout Toyko.

Earlier this month, Lady Gaga designed a special prayer bracelet with all proceeds going to relief efforts. In just two days, the pop singer and her legion of little monsters raised more than $250,000.

For more information on what you can do to help with earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan head to MTV Act, or text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

Robert Pattinson's MTV Live Chat: Everything He Said About 'Twilight'

From 'Breaking Dawn' to leading lady Kristen Stewart, RPattz was an open book.

Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson likes his leading ladies "hot," thinks his "Breaking Dawn" love scene with Kristen Stewart is "funny" and looks back at his first "Twilight" red carpet and thinks, "I looked like an old alcoholic."

Yes, we ranged far and wide across the "Twilight" universe on Friday night during "MTV First: Robert Pattinson," a 30-minute live chat with the 24-year-old star. In fact, we hit so many topics of interest to fans of the vampire franchise that we've gathered them all on one page. Consider this a Twi-cheat sheet of everything Pattinson had to say about the series:

On Kristen Stewart
While Rob drew a line of comparison between his "Twilight" co-star and other leading ladies with whom he's shared the screen — "I like being in movies with lots of hot girls," he laughed — he also pointed out how different he is from Stewart.

"I like the kind of cerebral aspect of things, and she has kind of an immediate emotional response to stuff every single time," he said about making various acting choices. "She's like, 'Why can't you understand? It's obvious. You don't know. You shouldn't be an actor!' "

Unsurprisingly, the duo's upcoming "Breaking Dawn" love scene — which we got a peek at in a photo earlier this year — also cropped up during the conversation. "You've got to really know what you're doing. If it's just a sort of arbitrary love scene, it'd be quite difficult," he explained. "The one on 'Breaking Dawn' is pretty funny."

On "Breaking Dawn"
Of all the new talent joining the franchise, 10-year-old Mackenzie Foy, who plays Edward and Bella's daughter, is the one everyone has an eye on. "She's a great actress. She's really sweet," Pattinson told us. "She has to do a hard part as well, because she's doing — I don't want to get into special-effects stuff — but she's playing a baby in some scenes. Oh, man, some of the stuff is so strange. I mean, we've done very strange things on the 'Breaking Dawn' shoot."

Rob also dished a bit about the musical aspects of the upcoming films, shooting down a rumor that he'll sing a lullaby but revealing he will show off some of his musical abilities. "I did play some piano. I'm not sure if that's supposed to be secret," he said. "I was very impressed. I hadn't played piano in years, and I learned it in about 10 seconds."

On Revisiting the Past
While we had Rob live and in studio, we couldn't help but flash back to our first-ever "Twilight" interview back in the spring of 2008. Though much time has passed, Pattinson said that now, much like then, he still can't quite grasp the full breadth of Twi-mania. What has changed, he added, is how he acts during interviews.

"I never got that I was supposed to be talking about 'Twilight.' I thought I had to be funny all the time and that's it," he said.

But he doesn't regret trying to be the always-on funnyman. Looking back on the last few years, Pattinson told us he really has just one regret. "I wouldn't have worn the suit I wore for the first 'Twilight' premiere. It was too small," he said. "I was also a little bit nervous, so I had a couple of drinks beforehand. I look like an old alcoholic."

Yung Berg Talks Dropping Mr. Ward After 'Falling Back'

'I took a little break to get my production right,' the 'Sexy Lady' MC tells MTV News about his new mixtape.
By Jayson Rodriguez

Yung Berg's been a big hit on the blogs during his career, but not always for having big records (though he has more than a couple of those on his musical résumé).

The Chicago rapper arrived on the scene with his breakout number "Sexy Lady," but then found himself making a series of headlines for all the wrong reasons: feuding with people over jewelry or ill-advised comments.

Berg shied away from the spotlight, working as a songwriter (Diddy, Leighton Meester) before finally returning from his hiatus with his new mixtape, Mr. Ward.

"I been falling back, I took a little break to get my production right," he told MTV News recently. "A lot of people didn't know I was producing those records, 'Sexy Lady,' 'Sexy Can I,' 'The Business.' I was producing those records, [but] people didn't know. I fell back and just went back in with a bunch of different people. Right now, I got the new mixtape, Mr. Ward, and I thought the best thing for me to do is to collaborate with people that I work with behind the scenes and let people know the alliance."

He recruited a slew of artists to join him on the project, from longtime go-to guy Ray J to Shawty Lo to Young Chris. In spite of the number of names on his guest list, Berg insists Mr. Ward is still his party.

"It flows right; it's not like it's overcrowded," he said.

'I'm hurting,' Warren tells MTV News after raucous SXSW tribute to late friend.
By James Montgomery

On Saturday night at South by Southwest, Warren G, Daz, Kurupt and Snoop Dogg paid homage to their late friend Nate Dogg with a raucous tribute show that celebrated the music of a man who lived every day to the fullest.

And while the mood onstage was definitely joyous — the quartet performed many of the songs Nate leant his voice to, in a poignant tribute to his talents — backstage at Austin's Venue 222, things were much more muted. In fact, when Warren G spoke to MTV News about his late cohort, he didn't hide the fact that he (and everyone who ever knew Nate Dogg) was still hurting inside.

In fact, starting with the moment he heard the news of Nate's passing, things have been far from normal.

"I was out on the Sweat Tour with Snoop, and we had got the word from his family on what was going on, and it was just a crushing blow for us," Warren said. "Just, from going to see him and lifting his spirits up when he was in therapy, and stuff like that, it's just crazy for that to happen.

And though they took the stage that night with a heavy heart, Warren and his cohorts also did it knowing that their friend was with them in spirit, and that by honoring his music, they were also honoring a man they all knew and loved.

"It means a lot, you know, because this is something that's being done for a person that we really love. It's deeper than music, that's a brother to us, to me and Kurupt and Snoop and Daz ... it's really deeper than that," he said. "I mean, like, I'm not a psychic or a genie or a gypsy or anything, but I know deep down in my heart he's around us, he's with us ... he's with us in spirit. Everything we do, he's a part of it."

A Tribe Called Quest 'Encourage' Fans To See 'Beats, Rhymes & Life'

Although A Tribe Called Quest felt some of the business behind Michael Rapaport's documentary on the group was Industry Rule #4080 (read: shady), they still want fans to go see the film. "Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest" is a window into not only the career of one of hip-hop's most influential acts, they said, but also the culture itself.

"I encourage everybody still to see this film," Q-Tip told MTV News. "Not only because it's about us, but it's really about the hip-hop movement, man. It really, really is, that's on everything. It's a celebration not only of Tribe, but of the culture. Of what goes into making records: the ups, the downs, the switching of the times. It's a beautiful story about hip-hop. He really did a great job, and I commend him for it, still. He really did an amazing job."

According to Q-Tip, he and Tribe just want to get the story totally correct.

"Again, this is just another warning shot ... a flare coming from the cannon so that they can get this thing right," Q-Tip said.

The MC also expressed the necessity for seminal rap artists and groups to tell their stories on their own terms. "Everybody out there in hip-hop who's crossed that threshold, who's done work, who has a history — whether it be Queen Latifah or Rakim or Wu-Tang or Jay-Z or Nas or Ice Cube or N.W.A — yo, tell y'all own stories," Q-Tip said, looking into the camera for emphasis. "Be in charge of your own stories, you hear me?"

The Queens MC then likened rappers to griots: West African storytellers who share their tales via oral tradition.

"We gotta pass our own stories on," Q-Tip continued. "This is part of our tradition as African-Americans predominantly. Let's tell our own stories. We can let everybody come in and participate with us in this, but don't fall for the Hollywood, nobody's ever done this before. We hip-hop, man. This is a hip-hop nation. We crack the mold, we break the rules. We define this culture that we in right now, this Western culture, the sh-- that's moving around the world, whether it be Tribe to Lil Wayne, Drake to Kanye, I don't care. This hip-hop sh-- is our sh--, and when we start moving in, control your stories, man. Tell your stories — that's what I learned from this."

Wondering what Katy Perry's new music video for "E.T." will look like? Well, fans still might be wondering after they check out the clip Perry shared Monday (March 21), but at least they'll know what this extraterrestrial's spacecraft looks like.

She tweeted a teaser to the video, which will feature a cameo from Kanye West, who drops a few bars on the song. Her message on the tweet simply reads: "EXTRATRESSTRIALS ARE COMING."

In the 19-second teaser, an orb-shaped UFO drops from the sky. Then the clip, which features the booming opening beats of the spacey dance track, tells fans the video will be "Landing March 31."

This is the second look Perry has shared with fans from the video, steered by Floria Sigismondi, who has directed videos for Christina Aguilera, Marilyn Manson and the White Stripes, and directed Kristen Stewart in "The Runaways."

In the previously released photo, West appears in street clothes while Perry is dressed up perhaps as the alien character she sings about in the song, complete with pastel-colored makeup and a giant braided headpiece. In fact, the look harks back to some of the costumes former Sigismondi collaborator Björk has worn.

The song will be the fourth single off Perry's Teenage Dream album, released last year. She made it clear at the time that she wanted the videos for the album to be a spectacle.

"I'm looking forward to making music videos on this new album," she explained. "There's a story to the songs. ... I'm really excited about ... making those music videos that are going to be larger than life."

Hanson Are 'Proud' Of SXSW 4 Japan Benefit, But Aren't Done Yet

On Saturday, with less than a day of preparation, Hanson somehow managed to pull off a 12-hour live-stream benefit for the earthquake and tsunami recovery efforts in Japan. They followed that up with an early (like, 12:20 a.m. early) morning performance on Sunday at South by Southwest. And on Monday, they finally took a minute to reflect on what turned out to be a very eventful weekend.

"The whole thing was a labor of love ... in the sense of nobody's really getting anything out of it, other than our desire to give and give of ourselves. I don't think I'll ever forget it," Zac Hanson told MTV News. "The people that put themselves out for this — and most of them will not really get the credit — the work that was done by the people that work for us, the friends and the colleagues that threw down and just started calling musicians they knew ... we're still having people saying they want to help out. It still continues, even though the first live broadcast is over."

The SXSW 4 Japan benefit started with the goal of raising $100,000 for the Red Cross' disaster recovery efforts, and Zac Hanson was happy to report that not only did he and his brothers achieve that goal, they blew right past it. Though, after having some time to think back on the event, he's more amazed by the sheer effort everyone put out to help make the broadcast a reality.

"For me, I feel like we really gave as much as we could. Nobody held anything back. I think we really accomplished something. The money that was raised, the $100,000-plus and all the text donations ... at the end, that is a meaningful amount of money, but ... it's more about that we did something," he said. "And I think the feeling of saying to the people of Japan, 'Look, we've got your backs, we're here, we're looking out for you, we're here when you need us,' I feel proud of everyone who was involved."

Hanson said the next step is compiling all the musical performances — and, as he put it, there is "an insane amount of music" — into a digital album that can be downloaded by fans, with all proceeds going to the Red Cross. And he added that, though he's proud of every single person who helped out in some way, there's still plenty more to be done. In fact, he and his brothers would've kept going, if not for that pesky need for sleep.

"We all finally crashed at around 2 or 3 in the morning," he laughed. "And then we slept for 12 straight hours."

Donations for the Red Cross can still be made through the SXSW 4 Japan site or by texting REDCROSS to 90999.

'Skins' Star Eleanor Zichy Previews Season Finale

As the premiere season of "Skins" wraps up Monday night (March 21), the show is in many ways coming full circle. The season opened with a look at Tony, a cad and manipulator who plays by his own rules. Throughout the first nine episodes, all of the characters have showed different sides of themselves and their lives. The finale will take a look at Tony's younger sister, Eura.

"Eura is Tony's younger sister, and she remains very mysterious throughout the series," Eleanor Zichy explained to MTV News. "She's not in every episode, but she comes up very sporadically — sometimes with the group, most of the time not ... until the final episode, where you'll get to know more about her."

While it seems that Zichy's character hasn't always been at the center of the action (and there's been plenty of it), that's about to change. "Eura is the younger sister, so there's a bit of a discontent," she described. "You'll see something between Cadie and Eura, and Chris considers her Tony's weird little sister."

While the episode will certainly have fans talking Tuesday morning, the show has had lots of attention throughout its nine-week run. Some loved it, and others wondered if it was too racy for teens. But the cast has always made the point that the show is about a lot more than just sex and drugs.

"All we have to say is ... you have to watch it and see the story lines, the friendships, the politics between these kids, what their relationships are," Zichy explained. "They're like a family."

Don't miss the "Skins" season finale Monday (March 21) at 10 p.m. ET/PT, 9 p.m. Central on MTV.

Panic! At The Disco Explain 'The Overture,' Prep For Vices & Virtues Release

Their mini-movie is out now; their new album is in stores Tuesday.

Panic! at the Disco officially return Tuesday with Vices & Virtues, their first album in three years and the first since the departure of Ryan Ross and Jon Walker. But, of course, if you're a fan, you probably already knew both of those things.

What fans may not know is the message behind "The Overture," the mini-movie teaser the band posted earlier this month. Opening with a scene of frontman Brendon Urie telling two shadowy specters — who most assume represent Ross and Walker — "I'm gonna miss you guys ... looks like we're going to have to part ways" and featuring Panic! and a host of fantastical characters embarking on a journey (to points unknown), most seem to assume the clip represents the band putting their past to bed and heading out into the future.

And while those assumptions are (in part) correct, the way Urie and drummer Spencer Smith see it, "The Overture" (and, really, most of Vices & Virtues) is about something else entirely: the obstacles they overcame just to make it to this point.

"I guess the entire theme to be covered in a word would be 'perseverance.' It's really learning to drop your baggage and keep pressing forward with what you want to do. And having the passion but also the perseverance," Urie told MTV News. "So we're gathering up people [and] we're not really sure where we're going, and how it's going to be, how the trip's going to be, but that's not the point. You never really know how it's going to end up, and that was important for us to get that message out, too, because we've learned that in the past couple of years."

While Urie and Smith were mum about the identities of those two darkened figures at the beginning of the video, it's safe to speculate that they are, in fact, Ross and Walker. But they also represent basically everything Panic! at the Disco has had to endure ever since they burst onto the scene in 2005 with A Fever You Can't Sweat Out — the labels, the gossip and, yes, the almost-breakup. Because, like everything the band does these days, they're parting ways with the past.

"[The figures are] mostly a metaphor [for] that idea of what we thought we were in the past, learning to just let that go and pushing forward with the ideas we knew we wanted to do for this record," Urie said.

Emily Browning Talks Auditioning For 'Hunger Games'

'Sucker Punch' star also opens up about declining 'Twilight' audition.

The role might have recently gone to Jennifer Lawrence, but there was a point in time when "Sucker Punch" star Emily Browning might have played District 12 champion Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming Lionsgate adaptation of "The Hunger Games."

"I read for ['Hunger Games'] a couple of times, but I've never read the book, to be honest -- which I know is terrible of me," Browning said in an interview with the Playlist. "I was nervous about it."

Despite the fact Browning started out her acting career as one of the leads in an adaptation of a popular children's series, it was that experience that turned her off from moving on to starring in the young-adult genre. She admitted that there was a period of time between when she filmed 2004's "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" and when she agreed to come onboard Friday's "Sucker Punch" that she seriously considered quitting acting altogether.

It was during that time that she found out "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer said she would be the perfect Bella Swan for the upcoming adaptation of the novel, but Browning wasn't ready to commit to a franchise.

"I was just exhausted, and I was like, 'I'm sorry, but I just can't sign onto a trilogy right now,' " Browning told MTV News in 2009, after she finished "The Uninvited." "To be honest, if I had gone on to do the film straight after 'The Uninvited,' I would not have been a good Bella . and I'm hoping people realize that now."

But it was the fact that she was vilified for reportedly turning down the "Twilight" role that caused Browning to remain so hush-hush about trying out for "Hunger Games."

"It's always hard for me to talk about these kinds of things, because I know there was a big deal with 'Twilight' and my involvement with people wanting me to do 'Twilight,' so I'm always like, 'Oh, people love this book so much, I don't want to get involved, I don't want to talk about it!' " Browning explained. "I read for ['Hunger Games'] a couple of times, but I think every single girl in Hollywood read for it a couple of times, to be honest."

Kelly Clarkson 'Will Sing Her Butt Off' On New Record, Songwriter Says

'When it comes out, the fans will be happy ... it'll be good times,' Claude Kelly says.

While fans may have to wait until September to hear Kelly Clarkson's new album, songwriter Claude Kelly is revealing some details about what fans will hear once the album drops. He recently worked on the album with Clarkson, and while he's not completely sure which tracks will make the final cut, he said that Clarkson will be back bigger and better than ever.

"I'm not surprised 'cause the music industry is full of unexpected things," he said of the delay. "I will say that I'd be willing to bet that the reason it was pushed back was not for anything as horrible or earth-shattering as people think — it's probably [just] a better setup."

Describing the current pop scene as "congested," Claude Kelly thinks that a slightly delayed release will work in Clarkson's favor. "They want to make sure that the arena is clean for Kelly Clarkson's return, 'cause when she comes back, she always comes back pretty big," he said. "They want to make sure when her first single comes out, there's nothing out there that's competing with it. I don't know for sure, but Kelly always does it big, so when it comes out, the fans will be happy and she'll sing her butt off and it'll be good times."

Kelly and Clarkson have been working on some fun up-tempo tracks for the album. "The songs I did write for her were in true Kelly Clarkson form, singer records that showcase her voice, but also show her edge and her attitude and her personality," he explained. "[It's] always up-tempo for me when it comes to Kelly. I like to hear her in kick-butt mode. She has an edge to her voice that you want to hear her sing high and get in your face."

Over the weekend, Clarkson debuted a ballad titled "Why Don't You Try" at Muhammad Ali's 17th Annual Celebrity Fight Night in Arizona and it definitely displayed big voice. The track is a cover of songwriter Eric Hutchinson's 2009 tune.
