On Thursday, Robert Pattinson was grazed by a taxi in downtown New York near the Strand Bookstore while filming his upcoming drama "Remember Me." The "Twilight" star was reportedly fleeing from hysterical fans at the time of the near-crash.

One bystander, Nicholas Berrios, told MTV News that he caught sight of the accident as he was walking near the accident's site at Broadway and 12th Street around lunchtime, saying he "heard a lot of commotion."

"I looked, and a lot of people were around this one guy," he recalled about the incident, adding that he didn't realize that guy was RPattz until he got to work and was told that the actor had been hit by a car.

"I was like, 'Whoa!' " he said of his reaction when he found out the scene was all about Pattinson. "I could have totally gotten an autograph. ... I'm a pretty big fan of Robert Pattinson and 'Twilight.' It's funny, 'cause a lot of people don't have a visual of it. It was a pretty big scene [of girls and bodyguards]. The girls were loud and upset. I just wish I knew it was him!"

When MTV News contacted the Taxi and Limousine Commission in New York City about the incident, a spokesperson said they had no knowledge of the accident beyond media reports and also no knowledge whether an accident report had been filed. No one at the Commission had talked to the driver, nor did they know who the driver was. The NYPD press office told MTV News that an accident report had not been filed.

Stephanie Pratt's Confession Highlights Need For Bulimia Awareness

"Hills" star Stephanie Pratt surprised many of her fans this week when she decided to open up about her struggle with bulimia, which she kept well hidden from the cameras while on the show. Pratt said she made the revelation increase awareness about the eating disorder, and she's probably already made many fans ask, "What exactly is bulimia?"

By definition, a person suffering from bulimia nervosa, a serious psychiatric illness, has episodes of binge eating followed by self-induced vomiting and/or the use of laxatives or other means of eliminating the food. The disease can be triggered by a number of different factors, according to Danielle Shelov, a psychologist at New York's Columbus Park Collaborative, where she helps treat eating disorders.

"It can be a variety of things, usually something has gone on somewhere along the line that allows them to feel like something is missing, or something is lacking in their life, or maybe they feel out of control, or maybe they feel they have nothing that's their own," Shelov explained. "So a lot of times the function of an eating disorder will be to have something of their own and to give them something to control."

Shelov shared five behavioral warning signs to look out for if you suspect a friend might have an eating disorder like bulimia:

1) Depression, irritability and isolation from others.

2) Preoccupation with appearance to the point of being intensely fixated on their body.

3) Social isolation and withdrawal from all activities and social circles.

4) Preoccupation with exercise.

5) Preoccupation with food.

Dr. Drew Pinsky told MTV News that bulimia can also be caused by external forces. "There is no doubt that the pressures our society puts on young women contribute to the risk for an eating disorder," he said, adding that there has been an increase in young men who have an eating disorder as well. "We put a high value on looking a certain way, being thin, being young, being perfect and naturally somebody who has esteem issues, doesn't feel well, doesn't feel okay is trying to fix it by fixing the outside."

Dr. Drew likened being bulimic to being a drug addict or a cutter. "Now, there's two forces at work with bulimia: One, I need to look a certain way so I feel OK about myself, but secondly, ultimately, eating disorders become a bid to regulate emotions almost the same way addiction is," Dr. Drew said. "It helps them feel better in an unregulated emotional state, so literally, the bulimia, the purging, the eating is, believe it or not, a bid to feel better."

Dr. Drew stressed that if you suspect that a friend has bulimia, you should help them find treatment immediately, adding that one in five people suffering from an eating disorder dies of complications from the disease.

According to Shelov, it's important to find the right kind of help for someone suffering from the disease. "They need to find someone who has experience dealing with these issues, because they are complex and they are unique," she said. "It's important you find people who are skilled in this.

"Second of all, you find a place that can cater to all different levels of illness," Shelov added. "There are different places for different kinds of things. Many times there has to be a nutrition component treated, a therapeutic component treated as well as a medication component. Ideally, all those are treated simultaneously."

Joe Jonas Confirms Brother Nick And Miley Cyrus Are Dating

'I don't think anybody is as famous as Miley Cyrus,' Joe tells Larry King after the talk-show host asked if his girlfriend were as high-profile as Nick's.

It seems like Joe Jonas may have accidentally outed Nick Jonas' recently rekindled romance with Miley Cyrus when the brothers — who kick off their tour Saturday — were on "Larry King Live" Thursday night.

When Larry got to talking about who the guys were dating, Joe remained mum on specifics, simply confirming that he does have a girlfriend. As Larry pressed on, wondering if Joe's lady love, Camilla Belle, is as famous as Nick's girlfriend, he surprised everyone by saying, "I don't think anybody is as famous as Miley Cyrus."

Reps for both artists had not responded to MTV News' requests for comment at press time.

Kevin tried to smooth things over by telling Larry the guys have never been shy about their dating lives. "For all of us, we've always said we always date," he explained, while Nick looked visibly uncomfortable with the topic, stating he wants to keep things private. Kevin added, "For us, it is kind of odd to have people all around the world so concerned with a 16-year-old's love life."

But Kevin couldn't avoid questions about his own love life. "Yes, always dating, been together with someone for a very long time and very happy," Kevin said of his girlfriend, Danielle DeLeasa. When asked if he'd marry her, he said, "We'll see. She's an amazing girl."

Miley recently revealed that she and Nick had "reconnected." "He's my best friend, and we still hang out all the time, and we've definitely reconnected," she said when asked if it's weird to work with her ex. "And we don't know what's going to happen in the future, but right now we're just kicking it and hanging out as much as we can."

Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey Fans Clash Over Facebook Pics

'Can we just stop all the hate already?' one commenter asks Gokey's online detractors.
By James Montgomery

It started with some Facebook photos, a dinner at Buca di Beppo, a few unsavory comments and an autographed picture, then quickly escalated into an Internet maelstrom that topped Twitter's Trending Topics list and became one of the most-searched subjects on Google. It's Danny Gokey-gate, and it just won't go away.

On Thursday, MTV News posted an article that attempted to explain the entire issue, and fans of Gokey and Adam Lambert took up the fight from there, inundating our site with comments that touched on some pretty big subjects.

Namely, homophobia and religion, two issues that are at the heart of the whole controversy in the first place. Were the comments Gokey's cousin and her friends left below the Facebook pics homophobic? How about the ones Gokey himself made during a Comcast chat earlier this week (which went, in part, "I accept gay people, but people have to accept my beliefs ... we agree to disagree")? Or were all those things just examples of the Gokeys expressing their religious beliefs, which — last time we checked — they are more than entitled to have?

To be honest, we were sort of blown away by the debate, so much so that we decided to showcase it. Below are some of the best comments, as left by MTV.com users. And if you feel like your voice hasn't been heard yet, feel free to chime in below.

"I saw this trending last night. It seems that a LiveJournal community didn't like the actions of Gokey and his cousin. I can't blame them for that, and the whole stunt that Gokey and his family perpetrated deserved to be exposed. This wasn't the first homophobic blip on Gokey's radar, and it's pretty clear that he and members of his family aren't the most tolerant folks around. It's very disappointing." - LisaNYC

"I warmed to Danny towards the end of the series and thought he was hard done by a lot of fans of the other contestants. How wrong could I have been? What a twonk! He and his family are an insult to Christianity and general humanity." - FrankieBaby84

"I see the Glamberts are already here posting their Danny hate. If Danny is to be held accountable for what his cousin said and did, then Adam is to be held accountable for all the hateful things his brother Neil — a.k.a. negativeneil at Vote for the Worst — has been spewing about Danny for the last three months. Can we just stop all the hate already?" - Lizzy

"Wow, this is amazing. People really need to figure out what is important in life ... or find other hobbies other than bashing Danny Gokey. I think people have made it their full-time job to bash the man. Interestingly enough, it's not even Danny's photos. If Adam was ashamed over what he was wearing or the way he looked, why did he perform in 'Wicked'? I'm not connecting the dots here. If Danny has said that he's cool with Adam and Adam says he's cool with Danny, why are fans getting so hostile towards Gokey? I think it's just showing ignorance on your behalf rather than stating that Danny is showing hate. ... Danny has repeatedly stated that he has his 'beliefs' and Adam has his 'beliefs.' ... Why can we accept Adam's beliefs and not Danny's? That seems like hatred too, huh?" - PerkyPrincess3

"[Danny] and his entire family give Christians a bad name. That entire [Facebook] page is sickening, as are the comments and ill intent behind everything they did that night to Lambert, from taking photos with him so they could mock him to Danny printing out photos and then turning around and making a joke out of it with his cousin." - Sumer

"My, my, don't we have innocent folk here? NOT!! Playing a joke on a friend, since when is that bad? Oh yeah, when people like you take it out of context. Danny's joke to Adam was harmless. Remember Adam has a 'free will' and could've refused to sign it, and I'm sure Danny would've gotten it. But Adam signed it. That's a sense of approval, don't you think? ... Danny's Christianity has nothing to do with joking. Danny is human, he is not God. It's obvious you are interested in Danny if you take the time to post a comment and/or read about him. People, grow up. Oh, I have a better idea, instead of reading this stuff, read the Bible and write in a journal." - MarieVal

"What Danny did was premeditated and vile. Out of thousands of fab pictures of Adam, he took the time to find one he knew would embarrass Adam, printed it out and brought it to dinner [and] had the nerve to ask Adam to sign it at dinner. This shows malice and a mean, evil spirit. Adam's face in that picture broke my heart. Made me sad that people like Danny Gokey are alive and well in the U.S. and call themselves Christian. How dare they when their behavior is anything but what God tried to teach? Danny disgusts me." - Aubry

"I love that picture of Adam. It's good to be green." - Glambertfan

'Hills' Star Lauren Conrad Says Novel 'L.A. Candy' Not Based On Show

'I didn't take anything specifically that happened to me,' she says of the characters and situations in her first novel.

Lauren Conrad is officially a novelist. The former "Hills" star just released her debut novel, "L.A. Candy," to the masses, but if the plot sounds much like her own life, Conrad assures her fans out there that this is a work of pure fiction.

"I didn't take anything specifically that happened to me. The only thing that I did was ... it was a way to show not necessarily me but just the other side of being on a show like ours," Conrad told MTV News. "For everyone that's done it I think you see one side and you don't see the other. It's kind of an interesting story to tell."

The plot revolves around a girl named Jane Roberts who moves to Hollywood and eventually gets her own reality show, which bears the same name as the book. She ends up working at an events company and it features all of the ups and downs of Jane's personal and professional lives.

So, if you're still not convinced that it's all made up — or you're one of the readers trying to decipher which characters are based on her friends from "The Hills" — think again. Conrad insists these are characters she concocted on her own.

"I think people already think some of the characters are based on certain characters, but the thing is, I think everyone has certain people in their life," she said. "Everyone has someone they really don't get along with. Everyone has a best friend. They have their parents. They have all these different people in their life and so does this character [Jane] and they all represent different people who change you."

LOS ANGELES — After Robert Pattinson was grazed by a taxi cab while filming his romantic drama "Remember Me" on Thursday, his "Twilight" co-star Ashley Greene sent out a message of support to her fellow actor — and a bit of advice.

"Don't run in the streets, Rob!" Greene told MTV News while on the red carpet at the Los Angeles Lakers' NBA championship celebration, which took place at Club Nokia.

Pattinson was reportedly clipped by the cab as he fled frenzied fans. The incident took place in front of the Strand Book Store on Broadway and 12th Street in Manhattan, where "Remember Me" was filming. Onlookers were said to react with shock as a bewildered Pattinson stood in the street and the driver slammed the brakes. According to a report by Radar Online, one of the actor's bodyguards yelled at the fans, "You see what you did, you almost killed him!"

On the red carpet in L.A., Greene told us she'd just heard news of the accident "a second ago." "I'm glad you're OK," she said to RPattz. "I'm so glad he's OK."

The taxi incident caps a dramatic few days on the set of "Remember Me." Earlier in the week, Pattinson had been mobbed by aggressive "Twilight" devotees, who tried to hug the 23-year-old as his security team attempted to protect him.

The movie will be filming in Manhattan for the next four weeks. Co-starring "Lost" actress Emilie de Ravin, the film tells the story of a young couple whose budding relationship is complicated by a succession of family tragedies.

Spencer Pratt, Lauren Conrad Lend Support To Stephanie Pratt

Stephanie Pratt's "Hills" co-stars have voiced their support after she revealed her struggles with bulimia earlier this week. Her brother, Spencer Pratt, and friend/ former co-star Lauren Conrad say they're proud of Stephanie for being open about her struggle with the eating disorder.

"I love and support Stephanie," Spencer told MTV News in a statement. "We all have our problems from time to time. But she's my sister and I'm always praying for her."

When MTV News caught up with Stephanie's former "Hills" co-star, Lauren Conrad, on Thursday, she seemed distraught by the news and said she wished she could have been there sooner for her friend.

"I've known that Stephanie has definitely struggled with the show and tried to be there for her in any way I could," she said. "It's actually really upsetting to see, and hurtful because you never want to see someone you care about go through that. We've all spoken to Stephanie and obviously we're there for her, supporting her.

"I think it was very brave of her to come forward and admit that she had a problem, and I think from here she's going to work on that and I think that's a very important step for her to take."

Lauren described one of the warning signs associated with eating disorders. The fact that Stephanie was unable to come to Lauren for help is one of the warning signs that Danielle Shelov, a psychologist at New York's Columbus Park Collaborative, told MTV News about. She said that people with eating disorders tend to withdraw from their friends and family.
