Behind the Beats is back. Two weeks in a row, we had to hold back because of other pressing developments, but we still have love for our DJs and producers. Today, Jim Jonsin checks in to speak on his multitude of upcoming tracks and what's been taking so long for his signee B.o.B, a.k.a. Bobby Ray, to come out with his debut (Rebel Rock Records has a partnership with Grand Hustle/ Atlantic).

And just because we stunt hard, we're hitting you with more Drake. Yeah, there's been a lot of Drizzy this week on the site, but what do you want us to do, sit on content concerning the game's most sought-after free agent? For the first time, Drake talks about working with Jay-Z on Blueprint 3 as well as Mary J. Blige on her new record "The One."

Behind the Beats: Jim Jonsin

Get your hip-hop guys right: Jim Jones runs with the Diplomats; Jim Jonsin produces hit records.

Jonsin did get a kick out of reading some of the original credits for the song "Pop Champagne," which mixed up the two Jims. Jonsin got a call from his manager asking if they should pop champagne for real and celebrate upcoming publishing checks. Obviously not. But Jim Jonsin has more than enough work to keep him and his managers drowning in Moët Rosé all year long.

"I don't like answering phone calls all the time," he said about the downside to being one of the hottest producers in the game. "My managers can do that."

Last year, Jonsin smashed the game with two of the biggest songs of 2008: Lil Wayne's "Lollipop" and T.I.'s "Whatever You Like." This year, his amazing streak continued, most notably with Soulja Boy Tell'em's #1 hit "Kiss Me Thru the Phone."

"Rock and roll is pretty much what I listen to most of the time and hip-hop," said Jonsin, sitting in Chung King Studios with a group of musicians and a couple of songwriters. "So I use all those influences. And I love rock. I'm gonna try to do as much as I can in that, get my Rick Rubin on."

He has Linkin Park and Daughtry lined up to work out his rock aggression, and he's still trying to figure out what direction to take Carrie Underwood. Meanwhile, he has Usher as his most notable R&B client right now. As for hip-hop, he's got Young Dro, Trick Daddy, Pitbull and a Nipsey Hussle and Wyclef Jean collabo called "Hello."

Jonsin started out in the music game in the '80s in Miami during the Luther Campbell era.

"I was playing everything, infusing hip-hop with rock and roll," he said. "Miami bass music, disco music, R&B. I would even play a cappella slow jams over bass beats or rock the drum machine under the a cappella while I was playing."

He made a few electronica albums under various stage names (Jim Jonsin is actually not his given name either). He always wanted to produce hip-hop, but with the Miami bass sound so dominant in his hometown, he couldn't find an end — until the music shifted. His breakthrough year was 2004, when he produced "Dammit Man" for Pitbull and "Let's Go" for Trick Daddy. Jamie Foxx's "Unpredictable" was one of the big hits he enjoyed the following year. From there, he's been laying them down for the likes of Twista, Bow Wow and Omarion, Beyoncé, Fat Joe and Danity Kane.

"The one thing I think is wack," he said of his industry gripes, "I can deliver you a record in January of last year, and you hear the record now, and you're like, 'Oh, my God. That's that fire.' That's the same sh-- from last year. We got old records in the catalog being sold. But that's just how it goes when you're hot."

Franchise Player

"The label got their own ideas of what they wanted," Jonsin said of the album delay for B.o.B, a.k.a. Bobby Ray, whom he signed. "We just did this joint venture with T.I. So you got Atlantic, Grand Hustle and Rebel Rock. My thing with Bob from the beginning was, 'Find what you want to do. Whatever it is, I'll help you.' Throughout all this, he's been growing and finding out what he loves most. He's finding himself listening to more Coldplay and things like that. So he's influenced by that. So we go in the studio and said, 'What's the first thing that comes to mind?' And we did it. And we just did three songs. They're like pop/rock/hip-hop. Fun and exciting. Summertime jams."

Five-Star Stellar Hits

» Jamie Foxx - "Unpredictable"
» Lil Wayne - "Lollipop"
» Slim Thug - "I Run"
» T.I. - "Whatever You Like"
» Trick Daddy (featuring Lil Jon and Jim Jonsin) - "Let's Go"

Hottest Streak Thus Far

2008-present: "Whatever You Like" by T.I. (2008), "Lollipop" by Lil Wayne (2008), "Kiss Me Thru the Phone" by Soulja Boy Tell'em (2009)

The Streets Is Talking: News & Notes From The Underground

Drake can confirm that at least one of his major collaborations will be a single soon. He said to look for his record with Mary J. Blige to get a full push soon. Funny note on that record: Besides blowing her a kiss at the Summer Jam concert a couple of weeks ago and her catching it, Drizzy still hasn't formally met the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul.

Everybody has been talking about a Jay-Z record featuring Drake that's supposed to be a big summer single leading into the Blueprint 3's release on September 11. Well, Drake said he did work with Jay, but Hov has not yet confirmed that their studio tag-team will be a single.

"The Mary thing was set up as a single," the Young Money White Knight said on the set of the "Best I Ever Had" video in Brooklyn a few days ago. "The Jay thing, I don't now how official that is. I just read that on the Internet. But it's cool. I'm glad the work I'm doing is something that people are even considering putting out as a single. 'Cause singles, you have to be confident in those songs when you're talking about singles. It's great. I'm glad that I'm delivering for people."

The Jonas Brothers kick off their big summer tour on Saturday in Dallas. And the guys, who will be performing in the round, assure fans that when they shill out money for tickets, they will be buying a seat to the concert spectacle of the year.

"I mean, you walk out there right now ... that looks big, and then you add a lot of people in there and that's even bigger, and then they also don't have seats on the floor yet," Joe Jonas told MTV News. "So there's seats going to be all over the floor too, so it's like, 'Whoa.' It's intense."

The intensity includes a water curtain, which led to the guys making an interesting list of things you may or may not see when you hit up one of their shows this summer. "We're going to bring a mountain on the stage with us," Joe said, before Kevin jokingly added, "And volcanoes and dinosaurs. We're bringing them back."

Not only will the guys have a water curtain for real (the dinosaurs and volcanoes will not be included on this stretch of the tour), but they will also have mechanics that will certainly bring them closer to their fans. "We do have a water curtain on the stage. There's a lot of stuff that's going on," Kevin explained. "We have an arm that lifts out of the stage that goes about 30 feet that swings us over the audience."

But Joe wanted to be sure we got what Kevin meant by an arm. "A big, like, mechanical-looking arm — not an actual arm," he explained.

If these rappers stick to their schedules, September is going to be a huge month for hip-hop. Jay-Z announced his Blueprint 3 for September 11, while Gucci Mane and 50 Cent also told MTV News they are dropping that month as well.

Add one more name to the list now: Plies. He's coming with Goon Affiliated less than six months after putting out Da Realist. The Florida native chose MTV News to debut his first single, "Becky."

"Some of you all will be mad at me for saying this, but I'm in love with Becky!" the MC said in a statement.

As promised, Goon Affiliated will feature some special guest MCs, a first for a Plies album.

Plies told us in April that there were three Big Apple spitters he was thinking about reaching out to for his album. "I was open about being a big supporter of Jadakiss," Plies said of the LOX member. "I met him in Philly, but like I told him, I was f---ing with him for a while. I never forget the line he used about how he was 'the first man to cook base on a Foreman grill.' That was the sh--! And then I'm a big Maino fan, as well as [Fabolous]. Those three dudes I always f--- with."

Look for an exclusive interview with Plies about "Becky," his album and a new direction of tracks he's going with on his LP in the coming days on MTVNews.com.

According to multiple sources, "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson was grazed by a taxi Thursday afternoon (June 18) in New York while filming his upcoming drama "Remember Me." The "Twilight" star was reportedly fleeing from hysterical fans at the time of the near-accident.

RadarOnline.com is claiming to have witnessed it all, saying that he was "clipped" by the cab as it zoomed past him in front of the Strand Bookstore on Broadway and 12th Street. Pattinson had been inside the bookstore for most of the morning shooting "Remember Me" — a film about two young lovers dealing with family tragedies — and when he emerged from the bookstore, swarms of fans descended upon him. As five security guards tried to escort RPattz across the street in the rain, the taxi grazed the actor.

MTV News reached out to Pattinson's manager, as well as "Twilight" studio Summit Entertainment, for more information — as of press time, neither had a comment about the incident.

According to reports, the taxi made contact with Pattinson's hip. The nearby fans reacted with shock, a stunned RPattz stood in the middle of the road, and the cab driver slammed on his brakes when he realized what had happened. Reportedly, a bodyguard screamed at the fans, "You see what you did, you almost killed him!"

The event comes just a few days after video emerged of Pattinson and his security team being mobbed by "Twilight" fans telling the actor "We love you!" and attempting to hug him. Pattinson will be in Manhattan for the next four weeks shooting "Remember Me," which co-stars "Lost" actress Emilie de Ravin.

"As yet, it's still untitled at the moment," Pattinson said of the film when we caught up with him recently at the MTV Movie Awards. "It's a kind of drama, love-story kind of thing. It's cool; it's a really great script."

Is Gucci Mane going from the Trap House to the penthouse? After appearing on a remix of the Black Eyed Peas' #1 single "Boom Boom Pow," the Atlanta MC recorded his biggest collaboration to date: a remix of Mariah Carey's new single "Obsessed."

"That joint hard, ain't it? It was crazy," he said about working with Mariah. "It was big."

Gucci said 50 Cent's manager, Chris Lighty, orchestrated the guest appearance.

"Shout-out to Mariah Carey and her whole squad and my boy Chris Lighty," Gucci said. "He got me and Mariah together. I appreciate it. He put me on there as well as her. Both of them are smart for doing that. The song came out hard. Mariah knew I wanted to do a song with her. It finally happened, and it turned out hard. I just flew up there to New York, went in the studio with her. I flew right out and went back on the road. When I do a song with people, I like to really get in the studio with them so I could feel they swag and they could feel mine. The music comes out better."

Gucci said he actually heard the Black Eyed Peas remix all over the radio when he came to the Apple to work with Carey. "My boy Will.I.Am put me on there," he said. "He said he's been liking my stuff. So he got the record to me. It was hard."

Earlier this week, Gucci debuted the song "Awesome," featuring Snoop Dogg, on V103 with DJ Greg Street. It was one of four records the pair recorded in one day during Snoop's recent trip to the ATL.

"That junk is so hard," Mane boasted. "The hook goes, 'Drop top's awesome/ You know it's awesome/ Air Max, '95, got them from Walter's.' Then Snoop is talking about he went to Walter's and got his Chuck Taylors from there. I talk about how I got my Air Max from there. It's a clothing store, real famous spot in Atlanta where everybody goes. We're going to shoot the video there. This is our fourth song we made together. We been talking on the phone for the past year and half. He said he likes my stuff and his kids like my stuff. I was supposed to be on his last album, Ego Trippin'. I did a song and it didn't make it."

"We just did three more [songs]," Gucc continued about Snoop. "We did one for his album Malice in Wonderland. It's called 'Opposites.' Look forward to that. I did another song for his album called 'Party Animal,' and we're trying to get Fergie on there."

Gucci's collaborations don't look like they will stop. He also teamed up with Plies on "Wasted."

"If you ain't got that, you ain't got nothing," he said. "Any DJ who don't got that, ain't up on game. That's the new secret weapon to get the club jumpin' in the South."

Mane is hoping his momentum will translate into his most successful album. His label moved Gucci's release date up from late 2009 to September. He's going to record the project in just a few days.

"It's hard for me to come up with a great title," he said of his LP. " It's so much going on right now. I gotta think of a good name. I thought it was coming out a little later than that, so I gotta get on my game. I'm going into the studio next week and make my whole album.

Aubrey O'Day was robbed on Wednesday in Los Angeles as the former Danity Kane member and "Making the Band" star was on her way to a television shoot.

According to TMZ, O'Day was robbed on her way to tape a segment for the TV Guide Network. O'Day claims that she was walking down an alley near the building where the shoot was going to take place, when "someone ran behind me and stole everything I was holding."

The items she claims were stolen include a dress by designer Zac Posen. Aside from the missing items, the singer is fine.

"Aubrey is doing well," her rep said in a statement about the incident. "She is just a bit shaken up from the day's chaos and is grateful that she and those around her were unharmed."

Most recently, O'Day, who posed for Playboy earlier this year, told MTV News that she was "excited" to hear about "Hills" star Heidi Montag posing for the magazine's September issue. "I'm excited that Heidi will join the long list of Playboy cover girls!" she said in a statement. "I hope she enjoyed the shoot and feels as liberated as I did! Good luck!"

The news of Heidi's shoot confirmed months of online speculation that the "Hills" star would be featured in the pages of the famous lad mag. "There is nudity," a source told People. "It's tasteful — she had a lot of fun with it."

Stephanie Pratt Tells MTV News: ' 'The Hills' Did Not Make Me Bulimic'

When the new issue of Us Weekly hits newsstands this week, it will feature a cover story about "Hills" star Stephanie Pratt's struggle with bulimia. But now Pratt says that she was battling an eating disorder long before she joined the MTV show's cast.

" 'The Hills' did not make me bulimic," she told MTV News Wednesday night. "It was my own issues with self-esteem, and if anything, my life on 'The Hills' has only helped me get healthy, 'cause I know how lucky I am to have this job and to have the chance to be a role model."

Stephanie said she wanted to shed light on eating disorders to help parents recognize whether their children have the same problem.

"My mom and dad were very hands-on parents," Pratt said. "They were never on vacations or anything like that, and I did everything right under their noses — I did drugs, I threw up my food — in the same house as them. And for them to never see that, my mom was just like, 'What did I do wrong?'

"If she had known the signs of what to look for, I could have been helped a lot earlier," she continued. "I'm so thankful I got professional help and I'm healthy now, but I just really wanted to do this to help all of those moms to see those signs in their daughters. [Bulimia is] such an ugly, ugly word. I wish I could have danced around it and said I had eating issues, but this isn't an article for me to shine."

Pratt said she spent a lot of time ashamed of her body-image issues and never discussed them with her castmates, including her brother, Spencer. But now she's happy she can come clean about her former problems.

"I'm the latest castmember to come on the show, and I look up to all of them, and I'm definitely not going to be like, 'Oh, Lauren, you're so great, but I'm a disaster,' " she said. "And so I kept it a secret, and that's when it's bad. The more I can stress about being honest, [the better]. Again, you are as healthy as your secrets."

Kanye West, Megan Fox And Other Celebrity Yearbook Photos Revealed!

Posted: 18 Jun 2009 12:27 AM PDT

To celebrate the Class of '09, we check out the senior portraits of Stephenie Meyer, Kate Gosselin and more.
By Jim Cantiello

Kanye West's Yearbook Photo
Photo: YEARBOOK LIBRARY

The yearbook photo is the most important pictures a teenager takes. (Some teen stars whose less-formal pics have leaked to the Web might disagree.) More so than any snapshot tagged on Facebook, or even that lovely pic taken at the DMV, the yearbook portrait is the picture that will define your high school experience for decades to come, whether you like it or not.

It is not surprising, then, that celebrities' yearbook photos have always been a pop-culture curiosity. Learning that Brad Pitt was a skinny dweeb in high school, for example, makes other skinny dweebs feel like they could turn into the Sexiest Man Alive, earn a zillion dollars, marry a hot lady and adopt half of Africa too! There's something really comforting in knowing that back before they had 'round-the-clock stylists and makeup artists, celebrities looked just like us, warts and all.

We've tracked down some of our favorite current celebrities and analyzed their high school portraits to get a little insight into where they came from.

(Check out our favorite celebrity yearbook photos here.)

Adam Lambert wasn't always the glamazon rocker we met on "American Idol." Back in his high school days, he was a healthy-looking strawberry-blond theater geek who liked sleeping in class. Perhaps he was dreaming about performing with Kiss while wearing an outfit from the Thunderdome.

Megan Fox's sophomore portrait will likely make girls hate her even more. Yep, she's always been that smoking hot. And thanks to the classic framing of a school photo, her funky thumbs are nowhere to be found.

By the time Tyra Banks graduated from high school, she had already traveled the world for her modeling career, so it's shocking that TyTy's photo is 40 percent less fierce than one would expect. On "America's Next Top Model," Queen Tyra is always chewing out girls for looking more like actresses than models. If only modern-day Tyra could time-travel back to teach high school Tyra a lesson.

Fergie was also a child star, having headlined the cheesy series "Kids Incorporated" in her younger days. By the time she was a senior, she was g-l-a-m-o-r-o-u-s, and showed a lot of c-l-e-a-v-a-g-e in her senior portrait. Is that flossy flossy or tacky tacky?

You learn a lot about Kate Kreider (who would eventually grow up to become reality-TV star/ tabloid-cover staple Kate Gosselin) by looking at her yearbook. A blurb about the then-senior reveals that she disliked the Friendly's food chain (why?!), her nicknames were "Bruise" and, uh, "Bruce," and she had lots of signature quotations, such as "Uh, I hated that!" "I need a nap!" "Not today" and "I love it." (It doesn't mention whether she was really good at rolling her eyes and being passive-aggressive, though. Perhaps those are skills she picked up later in life?) The most interesting quote, however, is, "Aww Jonny, you're SO cute!" If she only knew...

Speaking of reality stars, Spencer Pratt's sophomore pic is quite telling. Even back then, he was connected at the hip with a vacant-looking blonde. Some things never change.

And finally, "Twilight" author Stephanie Meyer (or, as her classmates knew her, Stephanie Morgan) looked like your average teenage bookworm. And for a girl who was in love with a vampire, her skin tone is pretty rosy. ("Twilight" is an autobiography, right?)

Congratulations to the Class of '09. Our advice to the future leaders of the world? Hold on to your yearbooks. You never know which one of your classmates will become the next big thing.

It's Class of '09 Week on MTVNews.com, where we're celebrating a memorable time in the lives of more than 3 million high school seniors: graduation! We're rolling out articles and videos with graduation memories from your favorite celebrities and much more. Be sure to upload your own three-minute video for our Class of '09 Valedictory Search to Your.MTV.com — the winner will be flown to New York for lunch with MTV News' Sway and will attend a taping of MTV's new series "It's On With Alexa Chung."
