Last week, Beyoncé and Jay-Z left Lenox Hill Hospital with their new bundle of joy, Blue Ivy Carter. Born on January 7, baby Blue already made history when she became the youngest to make it on a Billboard chart, so it's safe to assume that Blue is destined for success.

For now, Blue and Mom are hopefully resting at home in what is sure to be a very chic nursery. So what could Beyoncé and Jay-Z's nursery for Blue look like? To get an idea, MTV News caught up with Andrea Edmunds, the president of PoshTots, a designer of choice for celebrity parents looking to create a dream nursery.

Edmunds has worked with Heidi Klum, Kimora Lee Simmons, Gwyneth Paltrow and a host of other stars to help get their homes ready for a baby. On Thursday, Edmunds stopped by MTV News and put together a dream nursery for Blue Ivy, which included a star favorite item, the Dynasty iron cradle.

"A cradle is a must for moms who want babies close by. We have a lot of celebrity moms who have purchased this actual cradle." Edmunds said of the cradle, which retails for $2,000. "It's sophisticated, it's elegant and — look at it — I think it says Beyoncé."

Edmunds also brought along some of her most popular baby gifts, which include angora booties (a popular gift among celebrities like George Clooney and Paltrow). "A silk charmeuse blanket retails for $450, and it's a favorite gift. Gwyneth Paltrow has given this as baby gifts and it's a favorite among celebrities."

Now, Edmunds would not divulge if Beyoncé is a client, but rumors have been swirling that she and Jay-Z registered for her Fantasy Coach Carriage Crib, which retails for $20,000. "I will tell you that we do have a coach carriage, and we have sold the coach carriage." Edmunds said. "We do work with a lot of celebrities, and we do respect our clients' confidentiality."

What do you think Blue's nursery looks like? Let us know in the comments.

Rocko Shows Gift Of Gab On New Mixtape

Mixtape Daily: Main Pick

Headliners: Rocko and DJ Scream

Representing: Atlanta

Mixtape: G.O.G. (Gift of Gab)

Real Spit: Rocko got that gift of gab. The "Umma Do Me" rapper first made his name with his 2007 single and then went on to release his major-label debut, Self Made, a year later. There have been some hiccups along the way, but through it all the Atlanta rapper has remained one of his city's most-beloved figures. The A1 Entertainment CEO has been instrumental in Future's burgeoning career, but is still focused on his music as well. Need proof? Just check his latest, G.O.G.

Throughout the mixtape, Rocko crafts bouncy tracks with hit potential, while at the same time sharing his real-life experiences. On "Balance," Rocko teams with Verse Simmonds, and together they sing and rap about the tightrope walk they conduct when mixing business with their personal lives. The Zaytoven-produced "The Choice is Yours" is equally as enlightening. Rocko raps about moving from an illegal life to the legal music business.

Future appears on "Take U Away," "Squares Out Your Circle" and "Power of That P," on which he and Rocko employ tons of alliteration, using the letter "p" to speak about the many ways in which power manifest.

Over the course of 19 tracks, Rocko provides an even-keeled listen; with no noticeable dips, the DJ Scream-helmed mixtape bangs throughout. Then again, we expected nothing less.

Joints to Check For
» "Good Enough" - "One of my joints on there is that, 'Good just ain't good enough.' I always say that because that's just how I feel, that's how I inspire myself. I wake up, first thing I do is I fall on my knees and pray, then I get up and I hit the ground running because God keeps me in his favor. I'm good, but at the same time, I ain't good enough because I know I can be better. I was put here to be great, so yeah, I'm good but I ain't good enough."

Golden Globes 2012: Winners And Losers

Christopher Plummer charmed, while Ricky Gervais managed to both succeed and fail as host.

The winners of the 2012 Golden Globes have already been tabulated by the briefcase-toting folks at Ernst & Young and announced to the world.

But wins by the likes of "The Artist" and "The Descendants" only tell us part of the story. Who truly came out on top Sunday evening? Who didn't get a chance to take the stage and thank every single person they've ever known and many who they've never met? Let's take a look at true winners and losers at the ceremony.

Winner: Ricky Gervais
Ricky Gervais made a triumphant return to the Globes' stage after last year's controversy, winning over Hollywood frenemies and delivering a very funny opening monologue.

Loser: Ricky Gervais
The comedian might have talked a big game heading into the show, but Gervais' performance was a restrained one after last year's hullabaloo. What's great about the comedian is how he coats a witty mean-spiritedness with kindly, winking, you-know-I-still-love-you sugar. When your biggest dig is a fish-in-the-barrel attack on "The Tourist," you know you've caved to the worrywarts in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Loser: "The Tourist"
Two years running, the show's laughingstock. Not even its star, Johnny Depp, felt compelled to rescue this dud from Gervais' verbal assault.

Winner: The dog from "The Artist"
Not only did his tricks onstage make for the night's most-adorable acceptance-speech moment, but he was the only winner whose backstage urination was socially acceptable, rather than drunken and embarrassing.

Winner: Christopher Plummer
At the age of 82, the "Beginners" star is finally getting his moment. The only way Plummer could be more graceful and loveable would be if he'd broken into a tune from "The Sound of Music" after thanking his wife of 40 years.

Winner: Seth Rogen's penis
The actor stood next to Kate Beckinsale. His member stood at attention. And the audience laughed and laughed and laughed.

Winner: Martin Henderson
Peter Dinklage's suggestion during his speech to Google Henderson's name brought much attention to the plight of the little-known man, who was seriously injured in a dwarf-tossing incident.

Loser: Viola Davis
It's hard to consider the "Help" star a loser this awards season, considering how many wins she's already collected, but her loss to Meryl Streep stands out as the biggest snub of the Globes. We hope we can add Davis to the winners' circle come Oscar night.

Loser: Meryl Streep's glasses
Though Streep won Best Actress in a Drama, her spectacles abandoned her in her time of need, leaving the "Iron Lady" star unable to read her speech and consequently cursing up a storm. On second thought, perhaps we should shift this one over to "Winner."

Winner: Bryan Cranston
He might have inexplicably lost to Kelsey Grammer for best actor in a TV drama, but anyone watching the boob tube in 2011 knows that Cranston's turn in "Breaking Bad" was the finest performance of the year.

Winner: Reese Witherspoon's stylist
The dress was perfect. The hair was perfect-er.

Winner: Madonna
Madonna won an award. She delivered the night's biggest slam on Gervais' shoulders. She looked great.

Loser: Anyone in a category with Kate Winslet
This is pretty much a perennial fact: Kate Winslet does not lose at awards shows. Sorry, other very-talented ladies. Kate Winslet does not lose at awards shows.

On Sunday night, the hottest celebrities in Hollywood gathered for the 2012 Golden Globes to celebrate one of the biggest nights in movies, television, and, of course, fashion. The stars shone bright on the red carpet, showing off gorgeous mermaid-style gowns, plunging necklines and sparkling headbands.

Yet, it wasn't all about bright colors: The big trend for the night was nude-hued gowns, worn by everyone from Jessica Biel and Heidi Klum to "Modern Family" actress Sarah Hyland. "This one is really different," Hyland told MTV News of her beige lace Dolce & Gabbana gown. "I never really wore lace before so I feel very feminine in it. It's very vintage-y, classy, and I like that."

While Hyland's dress was covered in lace, first-time attendee and Best Supporting Actress nominee for "The Help," Jessica Chastain decided to adorn herself from head to toe in pearls. "It was love at first sight with this dress," Chastain said of her white Givenchy gown. "This is my first Golden Globes. There's something very pure about this dress. I'm a very pure girl."

Looking radiant in a silver Julien Macdonald gown was Nicole Richie, who finished off her look with her very own House of Harlow bag. "I thought she looked amazing," Celebuzz producer Rachel Maresca told MTV News. "We haven't seen her on a red carpet in a long time, and she came out wowing everybody. She's in Julien Macdonald with a fully beaded dress. She said it was little bit heavy, but she looked very comfortable in it, and she's rocking a House of Harlow, her own designed bag."

A-list actresses flooded the red carpet, including Angelina Jolie in a draped ivory Atelier Versace gown with red accents, Charlize Theron in a pink Dior Couture gown complete with high slit and Cartier headband, and Emma Stone in a purple and red accent Lanvin gown with a plunging neckline.

Yet, it was a lady in red that might have stolen the show: Reese Witherspoon dazzled in a tight-fitted scarlet Zac Posen dress with a sweetheart neckline, deciding to keep the rest of her look laidback with wavy hair.

"Her hair for me looked 'gorgeous without trying' type of look," Maresca said. "The dress was made for her; it looks great."

Who do you think was the best dressed at the Golden Globes? Sound off below!

Golden Globes Behind The Mic: My Bizarre Star-Filled Night

MTV News reporter spends awards-show night chatting with George Clooney and chasing Lindsay Lohan and Diddy.
By Josh Horowitz

On Sunday, I covered my fourth (fifth? It's all getting a bit fuzzy in my mid-30s) Golden Globes, and let me tell you, it was wild! I laughed with George Clooney, bro'd out with Michael Fassbender, ogled Michelle Williams' trophy up close, and capped the night off with Diddy and Lindsay Lohan. I also was in bed eating a piece of cheesecake from room service before midnight. All of these things are true. Such is the bizarre event the Hollywood Foreign Press puts on every year. You're a sketchy odd bunch, but you throw a hell of a party, guys! Thanks for the memories.

I've been lucky enough to cover the Oscars and the entire awards-show circuit the past few years at MTV News, and it is a fantastically glamorous and surreal bubble filled with moments that bend the mind (it's like "Inception" if everyone were pretty. Huh?). It's also a job — meaning it's filled with massive frustrations and insults, just as anyone experiences in their 9 to 5. Unfortunately for me, when I start whining about "Glee" star Cory Monteith racing by me at a party, ignoring my request for an interview, most people want to punch me in the face. I get it. I really do. But I can be as miserable as the next person (actually, I think I can be more miserable than the next person), and no one is going to take away my right to bitch about a pushy publicist who gives me an earful about her client I'd be a fool not to talk to. Nobody!

I couldn't bring you all with me to the Globes, unfortunately. Well, come on, where would I have put you? Really, be sensible! But I can give you a peek into some illuminating/ absurd/ just plain odd moments I experiences in my strange gig.

George Clooney and I are best friends!
George Clooney and I are not best friends. George Clooney doesn't know my name. George Clooney is not inviting me to Lake Como. My wife and I are not going on a double date with him and his Amazonian girlfriend (seriously, was she in Avatar?). But George Clooney sure is good at seeming like you're his best friend.

I interviewed George a couple days ago at the Critics' Choice red carpet (most notable for me calling him old and him taking my microphone away). And a few days before that, we talked to him in New York at the National Board of Review red carpet ('tis the season). When the Cloonster (I can call him that: We have an understanding) saw me Sunday night, moments before his Best Actor win, he said he was relieved I was wearing a tie tonight but I still need to do something about the scruff. Dreamy, right? BFFs!

Actually, he'd combined me in his memory with a fellow MTV News-er, whom he'd talked to at the NBR in New York without the tie. It's all good, George. You have a lot on your plate. See you at the Oscars.

The night belonged to Fassbender's member
That doesn't rhyme does it? I'm waiting for my flight home to New York (Al Roker is here!) and it will just have to do. Though Michael Fassbender didn't win a prize for "Shame" Sunday night (see previous item on the Cloonster), he was a big topic in my red carpet interviews. Before I get to the silly stuff, let me just echo many by saying he delivers an awesome performance in "Shame" that should not be missed. Not good for a date night though. You've been warned.

Anyway, Fassbender is an all-around cool guy in my experience. Exhibit A: When I sprung an impromptu After Hours on him a month ago wherein he had the task of identifying celebrities based solely on photos of their penises (he did really well!). Last night, he told me friends have been giving him grief for being a "penis expert." Later in the night, Fassbender's genitalia came up (so to speak) in my conversations with Ewan McGregor (of course) and Paris Hilton (er, also of course?). Let it be known that Paris has not seen "Shame" yet but seemed quite excited when I told her what she was in for.

Lindsay Lohan and Diddy have odd ideas about interviews
Where would one run into the likes of Ewan McGregor and the star of "The Hottie and the Nottie"? (I tease: Paris actually couldn't have been sweeter). Why the Weinstein afterparty! Also Meryl Streep and Kim Kardashian. America really is a melting pot! The Weinstein party (er, the carpet heading into it — I never went in) was a festive one and why not? Harvey's flicks dominated.

Uggie, the dog from "The Artist," seemed thrilled to be there. As did the whole gang from "My Week with Marilyn," celebrating Michelle Williams' win. But it was the random folks that were most fun to talk to. Why look, it's Chris Tucker! Say, it's a real housewife! And then there was Diddy swaggering as only he can down the carpet. I practically threw myself in his path so we could talk. He stopped, but he didn't exactly talk. Instead he had his "spokesman" (Swizz Beatz by his side) answer all my questions. Whatever works, Diddy.

And then there was the last interview of the night. Truth be told, it wasn't much of an interview. Just as we were packing up our troubles, there she was: the one, the only, Lindsay Lohan. "This is it!" I screamed to no one in particular. Lindsay raced by, only to reconsider. I was going to get something good. Cloonster was but an amuse-bouche. This is what it was all about. Tears would be shed. Confessions made. That weird stripper movie of hers would be dissected. "So, I hear you're playing Elizabeth Taylor soon?" I began. She smiled and grabbed my arm. And without a word, she was gone. Thank you, Hollywood Foreign Press. Thank you.

Jon Huntsman Drops Out Of Presidential Race

Posted: 16 Jan 2012 08:55 AM PST

Former Obama ambassador failed to pick up momentum in race.
By Gil Kaufman

After a series of disappointing finishes and a failure to emerge from the pack, former Utah governor Jon Huntsman announced his withdrawal from the 2012 presidential race on Monday (January 16). Huntsman threw his support behind leading candidate Mitt Romney in a bid to unite a Republican party that is sorely divided over which candidate will take on President Obama in November.

"Our campaign for the presidency ends, but our campaign for a (better) American continues," Huntsman said during an official announcement in South Carolina during which he made a plea to the remaining candidates to stop launching attack ads on each other because "the current toxic form of our political discourse does not help our cause."

Huntsman served as ambassador to China in the Obama administration and was the sole voice of moderation amid a pack of White House contenders that have done their utmost to highlight their conservative bona fides. After skipping campaigning in Iowa
to focus all his energies on last week's New Hampshire primary, he came in a distant third to Romney and Ron Paul.

And though he put on a brave face and said his #3 finish in New Hampshire was a "ticket to ride" to the next contest in South Carolina on January 21, the reality of his anemic support base appears to have become clear to the man whose bid was launched on the promise of bringing civility back to the process. Almost from the start, Huntsman was unable to win over a Republican voting base that looked at his service in the current Democrat administration with scorn and blanched at his support on some social issues, including civil unions for gay couples.

In a campaign that struggled to pull polling numbers out of the single digits for most of the past year, one of the bright spots for Huntsman was the media embrace of his music-loving daughters'
social-networking prowess. Sisters Mary Anne, 26, Abby, 25, and Liddy, 24, helped focus some attention on their dad's often-overlooked campaign with their irreverent viral videos and tweets..

Speaking to MTV's Power of 12 last week in New Hampshire, the Huntsman trio said the grueling campaign was a "family affair"
that they were really enjoying. "We call it a roller coaster: You never know which way the car is going to go," said Abby on the eve of the Granite State contest when it looked like her dad's poll numbers were finally inching up into the solid double digits.

"We think [social media] is crucially important for this election cycle, especially for our younger generation, so we've kind of run with it," added Liddy, referring to such now-infamous bits as a YouTube send-up of former candidate Herman Cain's "smoking" commercial and a Justin Timberlake remake promoting their dad. Despite his pledge to endorse Romney, just last week Huntsman referred to the former Massachusetts governor as "unelectable."

With Huntsman — who, like Romney, was vying to be the nation's first Mormon president — out of the race, leading candidate Romney is now facing off against Paul, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, former House speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Governor Rick Perry.

Idris Elba might have been celebrating at the 2012 Golden Globes for his "Luther" win, but he has a number of high-profile projects coming up also worth cheering over. MTV News' Josh Horowitz caught up with the British actor to get an update on Elba's role in several of 2013's biggest movies.

Next year, Elba will star in Guillermo del Toro's big, ambitious, monster versus robot movie "Pacific Rim." The actor has been in Toronto filming del Toro's first film since 2008's "Hellboy II: The Golden Army," and he said he can't wait to get back.

"I'm going back tomorrow morning. I've been there for five months," Elba said. "I love it. Guillermo's a genius, and the film we're making is a huge film, bad monster movie and robots and me."

If starring in del Toro's next film wasn't enough, Elba also has his own spot in the Marvel universe to worry about. The actor confirmed that his character, Heimdall, would be making another appearance soon. " 'Thor 2' for sure," Elba said. " 'Avengers,' we're not sure about, but 'Thor 2' we're going at it again."

Elba won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for "Luther," a BBC series about a troubled detective. He shared his excitement about winning for a smaller show. "This is great. We made our little show in London, and now we're getting this worldwide recognition of it," Elba said. "Love it."

In its first season, "Game of Thrones" struck a chord not only with fans but with critics as well, and on the carpet at the 2012 Golden Globes, showrunner David Benioff shared some hints about season two with MTV News' Josh Horowitz.

"A lot of bloodshed, as they're used to. More romance, I think, than season one. There are some great love stories starting up," Benioff said about the next season, which premieres April 1 on HBO.

The first season of "Game of Thrones" earned several nominations from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, including Best Drama Series and Best Supporting Actor, which Peter Dinklage won.

According to Benioff, season two will be about expanding the world of the television show. For production, that meant traveling all over the world. "The worlds just keep getting bigger and bigger," Benioff said. "We traveled to Croatia and Iceland and again to Northern Ireland this year. I think it looks even better than last season."

The prospect of a new season is a nerve-racking one for Benioff, but the showrunner said that the series' work behind the camera ensures a great second season. "Obviously, I'm biased, but you're always nervous going into a new season," he said. "Can you match what happened before? I think our directors and our cinematographers took it to a whole different place."

Benioff ended his tease for season two with a hint that is sure to make any fan giddy with excitement. "It looks absolutely gorgeous," he said. "And the dragons are getting bigger."

Smaug In 'The Hobbit' Will Be 'Extraordinary'

Motion-capture wizard Andy Serkis took some time off from filming "The Hobbit" to hit the red carpet at the 2012 Golden Globes, but it seems like he left all of his precious Middle-earth secrets back in New Zealand.

When Serkis took some time to chat with MTV News' Josh Horowitz, he refused to give any clue what the legendary dragon Smaug might look like on the big screen. "I can't give any secrets away, none of those trade secrets," Serkis said. "I can't say that because actually it's still under wraps."

In "The Hobbit," Serkis reprises the role that made him a capture-performance all-star: Gollum. Additionally, he will step behind the camera as the director of the films' second unit.

An iconic character in J.R.R. Tolkien's mythological world, Smaug is the impetus for all of the action in Peter Jackson's upcoming "Lord of the Rings" prequel, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." Such a revered character is bound to come with a high level of security.

Serkis suggested that there might be more to his own secrecy than just avoiding spoilers. According to the actor, Weta Workshop is still working on the creature's look. "It's still a very secret character that is very closely safeguarded, and it's still in the design process," he said.

The little we do know about Smaug is more than enough to get us excited. Benedict Cumberbatch will voice Smaug in "The Hobbit" before going where no man has gone before as the villain in J.J. Abrams' next "Star Trek."

Serkis said that with Cumberbatch as Smaug, audiences certainly have something to look forward to. "With an actor like Benedict Cumberbatch playing him, it will be extraordinary," he said.

'Bridesmaids' Director 'Pulling For' Melissa McCarthy Oscar

'I think we got a good shot with Melissa [for Best Supporting Actress],' Paul Feig tells us on the Golden Globes red carpet.
By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Joshua Horowitz

"Bridesmaids" might have walked away from the Golden Globes empty-handed, but the raunchy comedy is still considered a dark horse for the upcoming Oscar race. Nominees won't be announced until January 24, and many experts are guessing that the film might sneak into the pool of Best Picture nominees.

Director Paul Feig is similarly optimistic. MTV News caught up with him on the red carpet before the Globes where he chatted about his predictions for "Bridesmaids'" Oscar chances.

"I'm really pulling for Melissa [McCarthy]. I think we got a good shot with Melissa [for Best Supporting Actress]," he said. "I think the girls have a good shot for the screenplay."

But what about their Best Picture odds? Feig isn't holding his breath.

"Look, nothing would make me happier," he said. "I think that's a real tough one because the way the voting for the Academy is set up for Best Pictures this year is tough. We have to get a lot of, like, 'best movie of the year' votes, which, like, we're good, but we're not the best movie of the year. I'd like to say we were, but what an ass I would sound like if I did say that."

That lends itself to a different argument that says the Academy Awards should follow the Globes' model and separate the drama and comedy categories. As a comedic director and producer for over a decade, Feig said he sees the upside in that split.

His argument is that it's easier to create a showy drama that appeals to critics than a showy comedy that does the same. In his experience, showy comedies typically distance the intended audience, though that isn't always the case.

"I thought 'The Hangover' was very showy in that way, filmmaking-wise. But it's hard because most comedy needs to be very relatable. Like, if I were to do 'Bridesmaids' kind of very stylistic, I think I would alienate the audience, you know," he said. "As a filmmaker, my theory is always, 'Take the backseat. Don't show off. Let the girls be the focus.' "

Golden Globes 2012: Best And Worst Moments

Posted: 16 Jan 2012 07:13 AM PST

Peter Dinklage's acceptance speech and Seth Rogen's shocking one-liner rank among best Globes moments — but there were FAILs too.
By Josh Wigler

In spite of some predictable results ("The Artist" wins everything! Again!) and a far tamer-than-expected performance from returning host Ricky Gervais, there were some moments at the 2012 Golden Globes worth standing up and saluting — from victories for a handful of small-screen underdogs to appearances from real-life dogs.

Of course, there were other moments we would just as soon forget. Read on for our list of the best and worst of Sunday's (January 15) Globes!

Best Penis Joke: Seth Rogen
On a night peppered with lewd, "members only" humor that included Madonna trying to steal a smooch from Gervais and George Clooney offering "Shame" star Michael Fassbender a few golf tips, it was "50/50" comedian Seth Rogen who came out swinging with the most shocking one-liner of the night. Rogen called attention to his "concealed erection" while standing next to Kate Beckinsale, and it's a good thing she wasn't in character as "Underworld" badass Selene, or else that joke may have ended very, very differently.

Best Google Alert: Peter Dinklage
This year's Globes gave Dinklage yet another deserved win for playing Tyrion Lannister on "Game of Thrones." But the actor didn't simply accept his award, he sent every viewer with access to the Internet straight to the Web with instructions to Google Martin Henderson. No, he did not mean the "Torque" actor. Instead, Dinklage successfully called attention to a dwarf-tossing victim in England, using the Globes as a platform to highlight a greater issue.

Least Prepared Winner: Meryl Streep
When you hold the record for receiving the most Golden Globe nominations of any actor in history, one would think you'd be a bit more prepared when an award actually came your way. During Sunday night's broadcast, however, Streep was genuinely stunned by her Best Actress victory for "The Iron Lady." In a discombobulated acceptance speech, she thanked actors who weren't even nominated for awards and dragged on for way too frakkin' long. Meryl, we love you, but please: a little preparation goes a long way. At this point in your storied career, there's really no excuse for getting played off the stage.

Biggest Mistake: The "Boss" Wins Over Walter White
No disrespect intended to the former Frasier Crane, who has ruled the small screen in many incarnations over the years. Grammar's work on Starz's freshman drama "Boss" is worth acclaim, no doubt, but is it worth more than "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston's continued excellence as chemistry teacher-turned-meth cook? Not a chance. Four years into the AMC thriller and Cranston continues to top himself with every episode in his role as Walter White. He is the danger, and there's no question that he should have won the Globe this year.

Spot-On Award: "Homeland"
On the flip side, voters got it right by awarding Showtime's "Homeland" with two major awards: one for Best Drama and one to Claire Danes for Best Actress in a TV Drama. Danes' mentally unstable counterterrorism agent Carrie Mathison is one of the most original and moving lead characters to hit the small screen in recent years, and the actress' victory in this category is more than deserved. Likewise, the series itself was one of the brightest TV offerings of 2011, absolutely required viewing for anyone fascinated by the world of espionage and the War on Terror.

Best Dog: Uggie, "The Artist"
In a year dominated by awesome movie dogs, Jack from "The Artist" — played by Uggie the Jack Russell terrier — was the only one respectful enough to actually show up to the Golden Globes. By default, Uggie wins our inaugural Best Dog award. To the other canines: shame on you for staying home.

The mutual love between George Clooney and his "Ocean's Eleven" co-star Brad Pitt is anything but new. But on Sunday night (January 15), their love was on full-display as the pals put on some major emotional PDA for Golden Globe viewers.

In pop culture, three's a trend, and if that's the case, consider the Pitt/Clooney bromance incredibly trendy.

Walking out with a cane, an obvious friendly jab at Pitt's current use of a cane, Clooney brought the first bromantic moment when he presented the video package paying homage to his friend's Golden Globe-nominated film, "Moneyball."

"I have to give it back to him or he can't make it to the bar otherwise," Clooney said of the cane. "It's been called a baseball movie that's not a baseball movie because it transcends the sport. This a David and Goliath story of a general manager, his assistant and a failing Oakland A's team who takes on powerhouse teams like the New York Yankees. It's a movie about turning conventional wisdom on its head. And it's nominated for four Golden Globes, including ones for Jonah Hill and some up-and-comer named Brad Pitt."

Pitt then showed Clooney some love back when he hit the stage to present the package for the Clooney-directed "The Ides of March." "Young, idealistic campaign workers and dirty politics are the focus of a movie that shows how the desire for power can corrupt anyone in the political process," he said. "Ryan Gosling is nominated tonight for acting and co-star George Clooney received Golden Globes nominations for his writing and directing of the film."

The final shout-out of the night came when Clooney won for Best Actor -- Drama for his work in "The Descendants," beating out Pitt. While Pitt may not have won, his presence was felt on the stage.

"Wow, well, that's the funny thing about evenings like this. You get the chance to catch up with old friends and see people that you haven't seen in a long time," he said before diving into the compliments for Pitt. "I wanted to say it's nice to see Brad and it's nice to be able to tell him not just what wonderful work he's doing in two films this year, but also what wonderful work he does in the world to the rest of the people. I'm a fan," he added, before also praising "Shame" star Michael Fassbender for his own talents in the frontal-nudity department.

In the weeks leading up to the show, Clooney was poised for many a "death match" at the onslaught of awards season.

What The Golden Globes Tell Us About The Oscars

Some unexpected wins at the Golden Globes change the race leading up to next month's Academy Awards.

Most people will tell you that they only care about the Golden Globes because of what the list of winners says about the Oscars. While the Globes aren't historically the best predictors of Academy Award winners, they do often give a signal of where things are, heading into Oscar night.

This year was no different, but don't expect people to be erasing their picks from their Oscar ballot just yet.

Here is what this year's Golden Globe winners tell us about the Oscars.

Sorry, Brad
This year's awards season has been marked by a lack of front-runners in most categories. Even with the dozens of critic organizations that have already awarded their year-end prizes, going into Globes night, no one performance or film stood out as the one to beat. (The closest one to a sure bet is Christopher Plumber for "The Beginners.") Until Sunday, three men could have realistically been considered favorites for Best Actor: Brad Pitt, Jean Dujardin and George Clooney. Since "The Artist" skated by on a questionable comedy categorization, both Dujardin and Clooney took home Golden Globe statues and landed themselves at the front of the Oscar pack. This is essentially the end of Pitt's Oscar run this year.

Best Actress Award Is Up for Grabs
Most analysts had considered Viola Davis the clear favorite to win Best Actress, but her loss Sunday night to the reigning queen of award shows Meryl Streep signals a change in the tide. The two actresses were neck and neck for the category, but lukewarm to negative reviews for "The Iron Lady" began to hurt Streep's chances just weeks before award season got into full swing. Since "The Help" was generally considered a better film, Davis got the vote of confidence from many over the often-nominated Streep. Though she had been considered one of the favorites going into the Golden Globes, Streep's victory is somewhat of an upset and proof positive that the Best Actress race is far from decided.

"The Descendants" vs. "The Artist"
These are the two films that have fought again and again for Best Picture awards for the past weeks, but the Globes did not offer any great insight for the Oscars. "The Descendants" and "The Artist" both took home the Best Picture award for their respective categories, despite the latter actually being a drama. The only thing we know for sure now is that these are the two films vying for Best Picture, with the "The Artist" maintaining a definite lead. Many considered "Hugo" a contender, and Martin Scorsese's win for Best Director gives some validity to those claims, but for all intents and purposes, any film that isn't "The Artist," "The Descendants" or "Hugo" should throw in the towel now.

Ricky Gervais' Five Best Golden Globes Jokes

Posted: 16 Jan 2012 05:47 AM PST

He might have been a bit tamer than last year's hosting gig, but he still had quite a few zingers.
By Ryan J. Downey

In several interviews, Ricky Gervais made it clear that he felt a responsibility to skewer the rich and famous assembled at the Golden Globes this year. It's not about the people in the room; it's about the people watching at home. We are in a deep economic crisis, after all. Let's get this in perspective: They're the wealthiest, most privileged people in the world," he told Esquire in a recent interview. Many of the promotional spots leading up to his return as host took this angle, as well.

This year, the co-creator and co-star of the often fame-and-fortune skewering "Life's Too Short," "The Ricky Gervais Show," "An Idiot Abroad," "Extras" and both the U.K. and U.S. version of "The Office" saved most of his acerbic venom for several folks who weren't in attendance: Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, Adam Sandler and Eddie Murphy. And a few of the jokes directed at larger targets seemed to have compliments thinly hidden in their premises: Clooney is handsome, Firth is well-loved, Portman puts family first. Hardly biting.

But in fairness, Gervais promising to up the ante from his stellar performance last year is a bit like Paul McCartney promising to outdo The White Album. Some things in art and life come down to time, place, circumstance and the right convergence of events (Ricky would probably be upset if we suggested divine intervention). And while another comedic actor may have had the edgiest joke of the night ("Hello, I'm Seth Rogen, and I am currently trying to conceal a massive erection," said while standing about a foot away from Kate Beckinsale), Gervais certainly still generated several laughs. "It's so good having a job where you can get drunk and say what you want. And they pay you," he said at one point during the telecast.

In case you missed 'em, here are the five funniest things the massively talented Englishman had to say:

5. "Tonight you get Britain's biggest comedian, hosting the world's second biggest awards show on America's third biggest network. Sorry, is it? Fourth. It's fourth. For any of you who don't know, the Golden Globes are just like the Oscars, but without all that esteem. The Golden Globes are to the Oscars what Kim Kardashian is to Kate Middleton. A bit louder, a bit trashier, a bit drunker and more easily bought. Allegedly. Nothing's been proved."

4. "What's with all the divorces? What's going on? Arnold and Maria, J.Lo and Marc Anthony, Ashton and Demi. Kim Kardashian and some guy no one will remember. He wasn't around long. Seventy-two days. A marriage that lasted 72 days. I've sat through longer James Cameron acceptance speeches."

3. "Who needs the Oscars? Not me. And not Eddie Murphy. He walked out on them, and good for him. But when the man who said yes to 'Norbit' says no to you, you know you're in trouble. I love Eddie Murphy. He loves dressing up, doesn't he? Versatile. He's versatile. No, he is. Bit of trivia for you: Eddie Murphy and Adam Sandler between them played all the parts in the movie 'The Help.' Isn't that brilliant. They were brilliant. I can't believe they're not here. Or maybe they are. They're masters of disguise."

2. "Justin Bieber nearly had to take a paternity test. What a waste of a test that would have been. No, he's not the father. The only way that he could impregnate a girl was if he borrowed one of Martha Stewart's old turkey basters."

1. To Johnny Depp: "I want to ask you a question. And be honest. Are you on recreational drugs? I'm joking, that's not the question. And we all know the answer. Have you seen 'The Tourist' yet?"

'Smash' Vs. 'Glee': Katharine McPhee Breaks It Down

During the Golden Globes on Sunday night (January 15), there was one promo that played nearly on a loop. The commercial for NBC's new music-themed prime-time drama, "Smash," seemed to play almost as much as the show itself, which featured funny barbs from host Ricky Gervais, an equally funny response from Golden Globe-winner Madonna and a big win for "The Descendants," which took home Best Motion Picture - Drama.

Before the Golden Globes kicked off, MTV News caught up with "Smash" leading lady and former American Idol Katharine McPhee on the red carpet. She happily explained how there's really no competition between her forthcoming show and that other singing show on Fox, "Glee."

"You know, we're so secluded from L.A., where they're shooting 'Glee,' and we haven't had any interaction. No one's had any sort of conversations. We're just actually really grateful that 'Glee' has opened the door," she said. "And has made music work on television."

In teases for the show, McPhee is seen covering Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful," and when we caught up with her, she told us that later on in the season there will be a Rihanna cover. McPhee even went on to share what famed actors and singers will also appear on the highly anticipated show.

"Well, we have Uma Thurman, who's not a pop star but a movie star. She's actually shooting with us already," she said. "[One Republic frontman] Ryan Tedder is a guest star. So he's a pop star and an amazing writer. Oh god, and Nick Jonas. We're doing pretty good for the first season." "Smash," also starring Debra Messing and Anjelica Huston and produced by Steven Spielberg, premieres February 6. The show follows the behind-the-scenes staging of a Broadway show about Marilyn Monroe, who is certainly in the zeitgeist nowadays as Michelle Williams just nabbed a Golden Globe for her portrayal of the Hollywood icon in "My Week With Marilyn."

Benedict Cumberbatch Teases 'Star Trek 2' Role

Talk that Cumberbatch is playing the new 'Trek' villain is 'just supposition,' the actor said at the 2012 Golden Globes.

Ever since British actor Benedict Cumberbatch was announced as part of the cast of "Star Trek 2," fans have been arguing back and forth over who the "Sherlock" star might be playing in J.J. Abrams' upcoming sequel. Lots of speculation has centered on whether he'd be playing a familiar villain in "Trek" lore — like Khan Noonien Singh, the most popular theory to date — or an entirely new bad guy.

But perhaps we've all been barking up the wrong tree (or beaming aboard the wrong ship, as it were) as Cumberbatch teased to MTV News on the Golden Globes red carpet Sunday night (January 15) that he might not be playing an antagonist at all.

"I don't think we do know that, actually," Cumberbatch told MTV's Josh Horowitz when asked if his "Star Trek" role is a villainous one. "That's just supposition. And that's all I'm going to say about it."

Perhaps some clues can be found in the fact that Cumberbatch has been preparing for his role by consulting friends and family members better versed in the "Star Trek" universe than he is.

"I started [becoming a 'Star Trek' fan] slowly, but quite genuinely, when he rebooted it with this last film," the actor said of his own "Trek" familiarity. "I have lots of friends and family, all sorts of people who've loved all of the series and all of the films. I've been introduced to it through them and now I'm going back to them and asking them questions so I can get up to speed with true Trekkies."

Though the character's identity remains concealed, whomever Cumberbatch is playing requires no small amount of physical preparation. The actor said he's been "working out nonstop," indicating that his part in "Star Trek 2" is a very physical one. But even if preparation has been somewhat grueling, the actor insists that he's having a blast getting ready for the role.

"[Abrams has] great ideas. It's been great fun to prep," Cumberbatch said. "I start [shooting] next week, which is really exciting, and I can't say any more than that."
