'Jersey Shore' Girls Dish On 'The Unit'

In the season five premiere, "Jersey Shore" picks up right where it left off, bringing nothing but drama. But this time, it was brought by someone from outside the house: Jonny "The Unit."

During the premiere episode on Thursday, Mike "The Situation" introduces us to his best friend, who wasted no time stirring up tension among Snooki, her boyfriend Jionni and Mike.

" 'The Unit' is another part of Mike," Deena told MTV News. "He's like Mike's unit, it's kind of unreal. He kind of, like, gives Mike more 'umph' to be, like, a jerk."

Snooki added, "He's like Mike times 10, so it's, like, gross, gross, gross. It's not attractive."

In the season five kickoff, the housemates immediately go from the cobblestone streets of Florence to the boardwalk of Seaside, New Jersey. To celebrate their big return, the crew is given a surprise homecoming party, which brought out everyone's friends and family.

Yet the celebration quickly turned sour when "The Unit" threatened to tell Snooki's boyfriend, Jionni, that he witnessed she and "The Situation" hooking up — a story line that was heavily followed during season four in Florence.

"I think in Italy it was all drama because we missed home and obviously some people were stirring up unnecessary, fake rumors in the house," Snooki told MTV News before the premiere. "So when we get back to Jersey, you're gonna see that pan out more."

It doesn't seem like we've seen the last of "The Unit." After the two had a heated conversation at the welcome-home party, Snooki offered an apology, which he reluctantly accepted — for now.

What did you think of "The Unit?" Let us know in the comments.

Kelly Clarkson Talks About Reuniting With 'SNL' 'Family'

Saturday will be the pop singer's third time as the show's musical guest.

This weekend, Kelly Clarkson is making her third appearance on "Saturday Night Live" as the musical guest. But the bubbly singer insists that being a part of NBC's iconic show will never feel old hat.

"I'm a three-peat! I've made it," Clarkson exclaimed to MTV News when we caught up with her at rehearsals. "It's a legendary stage! I've been watching it since I was a kid. I think we all have."

More so than the enormity of playing Studio 8H, Clarkson said she digs the vibe of the cast and crew. "It's a fun environment. You don't feel like you're working ... This is like a family place. Everybody here is nice to people who aren't famous. You know what I'm saying? They're nice to my makeup artist, my hair guy ... I hate people who are just nice to famous people. It bothers me. I want to kick 'em," she chuckled.

Clarkson still thinks about her first appearance on "SNL" in 2005, when she became the first "American Idol" winner to snag a musical guest spot. Even cooler, she got to flex her comedic muscles in a couple of skits with former cast members Amy Poehler and Horatio Sanz. "I remember I was so excited. First of all, Horatio? He's hard to do skits with because you laugh 'cause he laughs all the time at [himself]. So you're laughing 'cause he's laughing, and I'm trying to keep a straight face. I had so much fun."

But this go-around, Clarkson's too busy to participate in any sketches, even though the politically charged "SNL" could write comedy gold for Clarkson, who recently found herself in the middle of the presidential race when she casually tweeted about digging Ron Paul's campaign. The singer's always down to poke fun at herself and be goofy, but alas, tour rehearsals are top priority. "We're literally flying in and out [of New York]. Charles Barkley's hosting, so he's doing all the skits."

Kelly fans can still look forward to two high-energy performances. During Saturday night's show, Clarkson and her band will rock her #1 single, "Mr. Know It All," as well as her latest hit, "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)."

'Avatar 2' Underwater Filming Has Sam Worthington 'Nervous'

'I love the ocean, but I'm just a bit unsure about it,' actor tells MTV News about James Cameron sequel.

The upcoming sequel to James Cameron's record-breaking film "Avatar" is going to showcase a whole new area of Pandora.

With the destruction of the Na'vi's Hometree in the first flick, Jake Sully, Neytiri and the rest of the tribe are apparently going to be spending some quality time in the planet's ocean. And, to try to keep the filmgoing experience as authentic as possible, Cameron would like to shoot those scenes underwater.

As an avid fan of diving, this is a passion project for Cameron, though he admitted to MTV News in the past that he likes to keep his work and extracurriculars separate. At least it's not going to be all new to him, as Cameron previously said that he learned a few tricks from producing the underwater thriller "Sanctum." The difficulty is trying to figure out how to do performance capture underwater, which is something he said has never been done before.

In preparation for the film, Cameron is apparently trying to convince his leading man, Sam Worthington, to go diving with him.

"He's trying to get me to scuba-dive," Worthington told MTV News on Friday (January 6). "I've never been, but he got me the gear and the tanks, so I've got to give it a go. I've got to get my lessons. I'm a bit nervous."

Worthington's quickly running out of time to start training, though, as his "Avatar" costar Sigourney Weaver started the rumor that Cameron plans to get the cameras rolling on "Avatar 2" at some point in 2012.

Worthington admitted that he's a little uncomfortable with the concept of learning how to scuba-dive and shooting underwater. Turns out he's more afraid of filming in the ocean than he was of heights, a fear he had to cope with while shooting his upcoming thriller "Man on a Ledge," out January 27.

"I love the ocean, but I'm just a bit unsure about it. I suppose once I'm down there and have done it, it will be [snaps fingers]," Worthington said. "I'm not worried about [the unknown]; that's the exciting part. It's more the claustrophobia."

But sacrifices must be made for the greater good of the film. Cameron told MTV News that he wanted to shoot in the water because "we'll have characters that are in and under the water." At least Worthington has a better sense of how the ocean plotline will fit into the greater "Avatar" narrative than we do.

"I don't know when [Cameron]'s going to start 'Avatar 2,' but I know he's been telling me bits about it," he said.

Check out everything we've got on "Avatar 2."

Las Vegas Set To Launch EDM Into High Gear In 2012

Marquee Nightclub's one-year anniversary rings in new year with performances by Avicii, Kaskade.

Two years ago, we probably wouldn't be writing this story. In fact, nobody would be. But dance music has taken Sin City by storm so rapidly that it's simply impossible to ignore.

Last year drew America's largest EDM festival to Las Vegas. And with it came a core of A-list international acts passing through town and calling many of the city's hottest venues home, turning America's Playground into what some called America's Ibiza. As the American palate skews ever toward dance, Las Vegas club life is healthier than ever.

MTV News ventured back to the desert to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Marquee Nightclub and further prove that this EDM mecca is not only thriving but poised to smash 2012.

"I think it's only fitting that we ended the year with two amazing artists [Kaskade and Avicii]," said Jason Strauss, owner and co-founder of Strategic Group, the entity behind Marquee, Tao and LAVO. "To have an explosive partner artist like Tim [Avicii] to be with us is going to be historic for us and really tie in this whole year the way it should be".

Marquee certainly has reason to celebrate. In just one year, it's been able to obtain a power lineup of residencies from the likes of Above & Beyond, ATB, Benny Benassi, Chuckie, Dirty South, Erick Morillo, Kaskade, Markus Schulz and Redfoo. Add Hardwell and a half dozen new DJs to the 2012 lineup, along with cutting-edge sight and sound, and it's clear that Marquee has planted a flag in the upper echelon of the Vegas EDM scene.

"I really like the club feeling of Marquee," Avicii (born Tim Bergling) said prior to his set. "The production is amazing and that kind of creates a really unique vibe from the DJ perspective."

This past weekend, the mega venue started off in high gear with a staggering 12-hour set from Kaskade, followed by an anniversary show from Avicii, who just a couple of years ago, couldn't even buy a lady a drink.

"I had my first gig at Wet Republic about two years ago and they wouldn't even let me into the club," he recalled. "They had two guards escort me to the DJ booth and then straight off because of alcohol and everything."

Avicii and a slew of other influential players have partnered with some of the world's premier venues to bring EDM into the heart of American cool culture.

"It's been big all throughout America, but I think this is where you can really see it because you get the biggest DJs in the world playing here every week," Avicii said. "I don't know any other place that has the same lineups that Vegas does."

"Everyone goes there. People from all kinds, all sorts, they like all kinds of music," Fedde le Grand recently told MTV News. "It's very important that dance music is in Vegas because people from all around come. Especially with dance music, you have to experience it to really get it."

EDM's influence in Vegas has become so prominent that the city has declared an official holiday honoring one of the genre's biggest names. Mayor Carolyn Goodman has issued a proclamation officially declaring January 2, 2012, "deadmau5 Day" in the City of Las Vegas, marking the date deadmau5 launched his exclusive partnership with Wynn Las Vegas.

Do you plan to be in Vegas in 2012? Tell us which EDM artist you'd like to see while in Sin City in the comments below!

MTV's Power Of 12 Headed To New Hampshire

Sway Calloway tells CBS' 'Early Show' about MTV's New Hampshire primary coverage and election-year plans.
By Gil Kaufman

Photo: CBS News

MTV News already showed you some of the Power of 12 on Tuesday in Iowa when we spoke to a number of poll-goers about their choices in that first-in-the-nation presidential caucus. And our young voter initiative will continue next Tuesday as we descend on New Hampshire for the first primary of the season.

This time, our correspondent Sway Calloway will be on hand to speak to voters about what issues are on their minds, which candidates are likely to get their vote and what they're looking for from their leaders as campaign 2012 heats up.

Sway dropped in on CBS' "Early Show" on Friday (January 6) to talk up the initiative, telling reporters Nancy Cordes and Jim Axelrod why the nation's 45 million millennial (18-29) voters could hold the key to this year's contest. "They can help set the agenda," Sway said. "It's about the individual vote and, collectively, they could change the whole entire election. We've seen this in the past, just four year ago. That's what the Power of 12 is all about."

And that, Sway added, is the reason behind the Power of 12 hub, a clearinghouse for information on voting and a resource for young voters to get information and become informed about the issues. A continuation of MTV's two-decade-plus commitment to political engagement, the Power of 12 initiative is an updated way to engage a new generation in the importance of political participation.

"The Power of 12 is about now. It's about 2012. It's about this generation who are experiencing a different economic climate, as well as political climate," Sway explained. "A lot of young Americans are feeling disillusioned, but they're not disengaged with the political process. We saw the turnout with Occupy Wall Street. But when I go out in the streets and I talk to young potential voters, some of their concerns are student loans, how to pay for college and coming out of college and not having jobs."

It remains to be seen whether young voters will come out to support the remaining Republican candidates in New Hampshire. But in Iowa they showed up loud and proud for libertarian Ron Paul, even if voters under 30 only ended up representing 4 percent of the total vote in the Hawkeye state.

Asked whether those voters will turn out for incumbent president Barack Obama the way they did in 2008, Sway said that while Obama still has the highest approval rating among that group for Democrats, "young voters will definitely set the agenda. If the candidates are wise, it would behoove them to tap into this 'Power of 12' and utilize this power and talk to this young vote."

T.I. Pumps New Album With 'Intellectual Ignorance'

'We got a lot of hot, old-school, vintage T.I. records on there,' T.I. tells MTV News of Trouble Man.

Who records more than 70 songs for his album and estimates that it's only 75 percent done? T.I., that's who. Since his release from prison in September, Tip has been releasing music nonstop. Aside from the slew of remixes he's done for others (Meek Mill's "Ima Boss" and 2 Chainz's "Spend It") and the mixtape he just dropped on New Year's Day (F--k da City Up), the King of the South is working overtime on his upcoming eighth solo album, Trouble Man.

"The album is about 75 percent done. We got a lot of hot, old-school, vintage T.I. records on there," Tip told MTV News in December while he was in Atlanta promoting his mixtape. "I'm talking like gutter, gangsta, intellectual ignorance, hard-core stadium sh--, but at the same time we got those over-the-top crossover records as well, big features and whatnot that we plan on putting into play."

T.I. started his career with 2001's I'm Serious, and while his debut album didn't make a major impact on the charts, songs like the drug-selling ode "Dope Boyz" made him a prominent fixture in Atlanta's underground. Through the years, T.I. has been able to straddle the line, mixing dirty street anthems with pop hits like "Live Your Life" with Rihanna and "Dead and Gone" with Justin Timberlake.

While T.I. maintains Trouble Man will have an overwhelming street appeal, judging from the LP's features it will have a rhythmic influence and possible pop presence as well. "I got one with Akon, did a few records with Rico Love. Man, I got records with just about everybody," he said. "We just putting it together, we done did about 70 records. So now we're in the narrowing-down process. So we'll narrow them down, we'll do probably about 15 more."

It's quite possible that some of the next 15 or so records that Tip records will be with Dr. Dre, whom he collaborated with on F--k da City Up. "We plan on getting back in and coming up with a few more, so you never know what could become of that," he said.

What are you hoping for on T.I.'s next album? Let us know in the comments.

'Dark Shadows' Trailer: Three Things We Want To See

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 12:34 AM PST

From Eva Green's witch, Angelique, to what's really up with Dr. Hoffman, here are the top things we're itching to see.
By John Mitchell

We are just five months away from the release of the hottest vampire movie that doesn't sparkle in the sunshine, and we're starting to get excited. Very excited.

But unlike the other major movies that have earned themselves a column here at MTV — "The Avengers," "The Dark Knight Rises," "The Hunger Games" and "The Twilight Saga" — we are still waiting for a trailer for "Dark Shadows." And, well, we're starting to get pretty impatient.

So far, director Tim Burton has kept a tight lid on his vampire soap opera — only a few official pics from the set (and one much-discussed paparazzi shot of Johnny Depp in character as Barnabas Collins) have been released. But the new year should bring fresh blood. We know filming has wrapped and that things apparently went so well on set that Michelle Pfeiffer told MTV News while promoting "New Year's Eve" that working on "Dark Shadows" was "a dream job." Pfeiffer, who plays family matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, added that she hopes the film does well so "we can do a bunch of them, because it was such a fantastic, creative group of people."

Whether that on-set camaraderie will translate into the campy big-screen spook-fest we're hoping for remains to be seen, and while we hope the trailer doesn't give too much away, here are a few things we're hoping to see when it arrives.

1. Eva Green in action as Angelique
Angelique Bouchard is the witch who turned Barnabas into a vampire in the late 1700s after their affair went sour. She's a woman with an axe to grind and has been haunting and cursing the Collins family ever since. So far, the only image we've seen of Green in character is the full cast shot, in which she stands in the background wearing modern clothes.

We hope the trailer gives us a taste of how the "Casino Royale" Bond girl is going to play the over-the-top villainess. This is a scenery-chewing role that any actress worth her salt would have a field day with. We have faith that the super sexy starlet will do it justice, but a little advance evidence would be nice. We want to see corsets, blood and maybe a voodoo doll or two.

2. A little insight into what Dr. Hoffman is up to
For us, one of the biggest mysteries of the film is exactly what role Helena Bonham Carter's Dr. Julia Hoffman will play in the shenanigans at Collinwood Mansion. The actress has described her character as "an alcoholic psychologist," and screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith told Entertainment Weekly that Hoffman "has been there for years, working with David [Collins] but not making any progress. He still claims he sees ghosts and talks with his dead mother."

Grahame-Smith goes on to describe the character as "a woman with a lot of secrets herself" who is "interested in Barnabas in more than one way."

What no one has mentioned is Hoffman's role, in the original series, as a blood disorders specialist who attempts to cure Barnabas of his vampirism. We'll be watching this trailer very closely to see if HBC is carrying more vials than she is notepads.

3. Collinwood Mansion
We got a glimpse of the manor in the cast shot, with its Gothic windows and ancient-looking rugs, but we're excited to see the rest of the haunted mansion. Overlooking the Atlantic from Collinsport, Maine, the house contains a room that is a gateway to a parallel time, for goodness' sake. Given that so much of the action of the series takes place within the walls of the mansion, we're really hoping that Burton and his first-class team of art directors, set designers and cinematographers got it right and captured the regal horror of the place.

What will you be looking for in a "Dark Shadows" trailer? Sound off in the comments below and tweet me at @JohnMitchell83 with your thoughts and suggestions for future columns!

Van Halen Rock New York City With Intimate Show

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 09:15 AM PST

The quartet took over NYC's tiny Café Wha? to announce their new album, and picked up the tab.
By James Montgomery

NEW YORK — There are the traditional ways that bands announce their comeback, and then there's the Van Halen way, in which you take over a hole-in-the-wall New York City club, cram it with every music writer in the biz (and some celebs, too) and practically burn the place to the ground with a hit-packed 70-minute set. Oh, and just to ensure maximum good times, you pick up the bar tab, too. For everybody.

On Thursday night in NYC, VH hyped A Different Kind of Truth — their first album with original frontman David Lee Roth in almost 30 years — and their massive tour that kicks off next month. The fiery, fierce, fantastic show took place at the venerable Café Wha?, the Greenwich Village club that has played host to the likes of Bob Dylan and Peter, Paul & Mary. In an apparent nod to the place's folk roots, Roth even strummed an acoustic guitar for a minute, which was about as muted as things got.

From the second they strode onto the tiny stage — Roth in overalls and a newsboy cap, Eddie, Alex and Wolfgang Van Halen in workman-like blue jeans and T-shirts — it was one massive party. And not just because the booze was free.

Roth joked "Welcome to Occupy Van Halen, everybody!" and then they were off, launching into a cover of the Kinks' "You Really Got Me," which was stretched out to allow Roth and Eddie Van Halen to trade vocal shouts and guitar licks. Their classic "Running With the Devil" had the crowd (which included everyone from Jimmy Fallon to Roth's uncle Manny, who owned the Wha? Until 1988) losing their collective minds.

That song wrapped with Roth planting a kiss on bassist (and Eddie's son) Wolfgang's cheek, and sent the dynamic frontman into a lengthy monologue. He regaled the crowd with stories about his time as a New York City EMT and pleaded with the "guys from the press" to introduce him to Lady Gaga. He then fired into back-to-back burners "Somebody Get Me a Doctor" and "Everybody Wants Some."

"The last time I stood onstage this low, we had to have the car back by midnight," Roth said, a comment that highlighted what made the show so special: Not only was it the smallest show VH had played in decades, but it was unquestionably one of the happiest. For a band whose past is so dotted with acrimony, everybody on stage looked like they were having an absolute blast, joking between songs, smiles plastered to their faces. And, yes, that mood was matched by the folks in attendance.

Up next was the new (though technically more than 30-year-old) "She's the Woman," which, in a welcome break from reunited-rock-legend tradition, was actually kind of killer. Following it were colossally surging smashes like "Panama," "Hot for Teacher," "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" and, of course, the set-closing "Jump," which sent the crowd back out onto the Village streets deliriously happy — and slightly inebriated. It was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of night, and seemingly everyone realized it, especially Van Halen. They looked great and sounded even better, a reminder of their prominence in rock's all-time pantheon and a promise that this new tour is a can't-miss. And boy do they know how to throw a party.

Daniel Radcliffe 'Threw Himself' Into 'Woman In Black'

'I found it incredibly exciting seeing Dan playing such a mature role,' screenwriter Jane Goldman tells MTV News.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

Later this month, Daniel Radcliffe will leave the friendly ghosts of Hogwarts behind in favor of a much darker haunting. His first major post-"Potter" role comes with the adaptation of Susan Hill's beloved Victorian ghost story "The Woman in Black."

The film represents a major challenge for Radcliffe and his star persona. It's his biggest movie release as a mere leading Muggle, and fans want to know: Can "The Woman in Black" help Radcliffe make the all-important leap from child star to adult actor? "Woman in Black" screenwriter Jane Goldman thinks so.

"It's an extraordinary achievement," she said. "I think we were all just blown away by his performance. I think that's going to be pretty exciting for his fans."

Goldman recently made a name for herself penning some of the most successful comic book adaptations in recent years. Her writing credit appears on "Kick-Ass" and "X-Men: First Class," as well as spy thriller "The Debt."

Radcliffe's role presents something entirely different for the actor, who, believe it or not, plays a father and widower in the film. This stark change really stands out for Goldman, considering that Radcliffe played a younger character in the last few "Potter" films. "In a sense, with the last few years of 'Potter,' he was playing younger than he is," she said. "He is a young man, but he also threw himself totally into this ['Woman in Black'] role, and the fact that he's so believable as a widower and as a father [is impressive]."

What excited Goldman most about Radcliffe's performance was the maturity he brought to it. "I found it incredibly exciting seeing Dan playing such a mature role," she said. "I think that will be a fun and really interesting thing for his audience to see. He's really playing a man."

Jason Derulo's Canceled Tour Was Going To Be 'Very Different'

'There will be somewhat of a story line, almost like a musical,' Derülo told MTV News before fracturing his neck.
By Christina Garibaldi

Jason Derülo

On Thursday Jason Derülo was forced to cancel his upcoming Future History world tour due to a fracture in his neck from rehearsal. Derülo addressed his fans via Twitter, saying, "I fractured my neck doing tumbling & acrobatics 4 tour! Always tryin 2 push boundaries 4 YOU! Like my new chain? ;)"

In December, Derülo sat down with MTV News to talk about his tour, which was to kick off next month in Glasgow, and explained that he was putting himself through a rigorous rehearsal schedule.

"Right after the holidays I'm starting to really prepare for the tour so I'll be in tap rehearsals, gymnastics and doing all this other stuff that is going to enhance the show," Derülo said. "So I'll have a month and a half of preparation."

The "Don't Wanna Go Home" singer, who recently performed on MTV's "NYE in NYC 2012," released a statement via his label, which read, "To all my fans who planned to come to the Future History world tour, the pain of letting you down cuts me way deeper than this injury I've sustained. My fans mean everything to me, so I'm praying for a speedy recovery in order to perform for you in the near future."

And it seems that Derülo had his fans in mind when planning his upcoming stage performance. "For my show I want to bring a performance-art element. It won't just be a 'run of the mill' me standing in front of a band, it will be a lot of dancing, obviously, but there will be somewhat of a story line, almost like a musical. So it's a show that's going to be very different than anything people have ever seen. I've just really, really been trying to focus on creating something that is new, something that is fresh, so that when my fans come, it will be an experience."

There's still no word on whether these tour dates will be rescheduled, but Derülo, who said he would have liked to have Miguel or Travie McCoy join him on the tour, did tell MTV News he is planning on releasing more singles off his sophomore album, Future History, in the new year.

Post your get-well wishes for Derülo in the comments below.

Nicki Minaj's 'Super Bass' Becomes Christian Anthem

Students at the University of Florida unveil 'Super Grace,' an ode to 'the boys with the true religion.'
By James Montgomery

When Nicki Minaj first dropped "Super Bass," she probably never thought it'd go on to be her biggest hit ... and we're willing to bet she definitely didn't think it would become an anthem for Christian coupling.

And yet, it has. Thanks to some students at the University of Florida, Nicki's ode to the boys with the booming systems has been re-imagined as "Super Grace," a contemporary commentary "about the single Christian girl's struggle to appreciate the wonderful Christian men in her life."

Written by UF student Raychel Manko, and first performed during a homecoming "Skit Night" for the university's Christian Greek organizations, "Grace" pays homage to "the boys with the true religion ... in love with the Lord and done with sinning." It was apparently such a hit — it won first place at the competition — that Manko and her fellow Gators were inspired to make an accompanying music video. And, oh, what a video it is.

In the clip, Manko dons a bright blue wig (a nod to Nicki's eternally evolving hairstyles), preaches from the pulpit, checks out some like-minded guys whilst praying, spits lines like, "You know I really have a thing for Christ-centered guys/ I mean, sigh, I'm gonna cry" (you can read the full lyrics over on her blog) and, of course, inspires some rather zesty choreographed dance routines.

The video was first uploaded on Christmas and has, to date, racked up just 1,100 views. But in recent days, it's begun to make the rounds on sites like Buzzfeed, which sort of guarantees it's well on its way to viral status. Manko, of course, remains unfazed by it all. In fact, she seems more concerned with meeting those Christian guys: as the "Grace" YouTube page states, "Raychel does not have blue hair in real life, and she looks better without it."

What do you think of the "Super Grace" remix? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page or in the comments!

'Devil Inside' Advance Screenings Draw Passionate Reactions

Fans report being terrified, but some critics tweet about audiences booing at film's conclusion.

"The Devil Inside," the latest entry in the found-footage genre, screened Thursday night for special sneak-preview audiences and had the crowds screaming for two very different reasons.

Some of the audience members, like Adam Geldres, found themselves shaken up after the screening; Geldres insisted that it was "one of the scariest movies [he's] seen."

Ashlei Lien felt the same way. After the screening, she told MTV News and said, "I don't even want to pray, because I'm scared because in the movie he prays ..." but she couldn't finish her thought.

The film, which follows a young woman as she travels to Rome to meet with her possessed and dangerous mother, garnered passionate reactions across the board, but Twitter told a different story than the viewers we caught up with after the screening. Passion is not always positive.

Soon after the advance screenings ended, critics, who were also in attendance, took to Twitter to share the reactions many of them witnessed. Many reported booing at separate screenings as soon as the film ended.

Drew McWeeny from HitFix (@DrewAtHitFix) shared his experience from a regular midnight showing. "Wow. 'The Devil Inside' is a big ol' burn. Active booing in the (sold-out) theater tonight."

El Mayimbe from Latino Review (@elmayimbe) said that audiences were even more hostile at one New York screening. "Audience at NYC screening were ready to kill the filmmakers if they were in attendance. So they took it out on poor ushers."

SPOILER ALERT The controversy stemmed from the film's ending, which comes abruptly and, as many people claim, arbitrarily. A title on the screen then directs fans to a website to find out more.

Rihanna's run at the record books continues unabated, as the "We Found Love" singer has been named by Nielsen SoundScan as the top-selling digital artist ever.

The Talk That Talk diva has moved an incredible 47.5 million digital downloads since bursting onto the scene in 2005, giving her a comfortable lead over second-place Black Eyed Peas, who have career digital sales of 42.4 million. Eminem trails BEP by just 100,000 for third place with over 42.29 million in sales. Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift came in at fourth and fifth, respectively, with career digital sales of 42.08 million and 41.82 million.

Katy Perry, Lil Wayne, Beyoncé, Kanye West and Britney Spears round out the top 10.

Rihanna can add the title to her ever-increasing list of chart accolades. Late last year, she leapt past Janet Jackson and Stevie Wonder on the list of artists with the most #1 singles when "We Found Love" topped the charts, becoming her 11th #1 and tying her with Whitney Houston. Only the Supremes, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley and the Beatles have more chart-toppers. The single also helped the pop star make Billboard history as the solo artist to reach 20 top tens the fastest. It took her six years and four months to reach that total, five less than it took Madonna.

While Rihanna leads in overall combined sales, none of her songs placed individually on the all-time list of top-selling digital songs, which is led by BEP's "I Got a Feeling." "Feeling" has sold 7.68 million downloads, besting the second-place track — Lady Gaga's "Poker Face" — by more than a million downloads. "Face" and another Gaga hit, "Just Dance," both boast digital sales of approximately 6.5 million, more than another BEP jam, "Boom Boom Pow," which took fourth place with 6.2 million in sales.

Further down the list at #7 is MTV's Song of 2011, "Rolling in the Deep." Adele's chart-topping, Grammy-nominated smash has moved more than 5.9 million downloads since its late-2010 release. Flo Rida's "Low," Ke$ha's "Tik Tok" and Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" also appear on the list of best-selling digital tracks.

She's just one of several pop stars bridging the gap between hip-hop and rap.

Demi Lovato and Eminem are not two names often tied together. But the pop singer recently shared that she'd like to change that, saying she'd love to hit the studio with the legendary rapper.

"Hopefully, I can work with Eminem," the singer told E! News about her dream collaboration. "He's my favorite rapper, so anything with him would be amazing."

Hip-hop fans might be surprised to hear about Lovato's love for the genre, but Lovatics are more familiar with it. She made headlines last fall with her gut-busting cover of "How to Love" by Lil Wayne. When she spoke to MTV News about the deeply personal track, she fessed up about her love for the rapper and his song.

"I just loved the way that Lil Wayne took a risk doing the song 'How to Love,' and when I really listened to it, it's such a great song," she said. "It has such a deep meaning to it and I wanted to perform that, and I put a little spin on it and tried to make it a little more empowering. And I think it fit with the platform and the message that I have with my fans."

Lovato's one of many artists crossing over between pop and hip-hop. Taylor Swift was at the forefront of the trend in 2011, hitting the stage with the likes of T.I. and Nicki Minaj. And Justin Bieber said he'll likely work with Drake and Kanye West on his 2012 release, Believe. So it seems this trend isn't going away anytime soon.

Emma Stone is ready to ride in a "Little White Corvette" in her next flick.

"The Help" star is attached to the comedy, for which she'll reportedly make $1 million up-front, Deadline reports. The story, which returns the actress to her funny-lady roots, follows two siblings who find cocaine in their dead father's old Corvette. They attempt to cash in on the million-dollar bundle when they head down to Miami to sell it off. The part of her sibling has yet to be cast.

Stone has been interested in the project, for which she will also serve as executive producer, since mid-2011. Production is scheduled to begin this summer.

Until then, comic book fans everywhere are looking forward to seeing her take on Gwen Stacy in "The Amazing Spider-Man"; she'll also reconnect with her "Crazy, Stupid, Love" co-star Ryan Gosling in the period drama "Gangster Squad." Both films are out later this year, and both are fighting it out in the MTV Movie Brawl 2012.

As awards season rages on, Stone's breakout film, "The Help," continues to generate buzz. The movie and its stars are up for five awards at the Golden Globes on January 15, including Best Motion Picture - Drama; Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama for Viola Davis; Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for both Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer; and Best Original Song - Motion Picture for Mary J. Blige's "The Living Proof." Oscar nominations will be announced on January 24.

It all starts with the stories for Odd Future vocalist Frank Ocean. Now that the California breakout singer/songwriter has completed his first tour, he has his eyes set on his first major label release. Ocean sat down with BBC News to talk about the impact of his 2011 free Internet album Nostalgia, Ultra and what fans can expect from his first major-label album. "On this record, on this latest body of work I've been doing, I think it succinctly defines me as an artist for where I am right now, and that was the aim, just to make something that represents where you are at that time," he told BBC News on camera. "It's about the stories. If I write 14 stories that I love, then the next step is to get the environment of music around it to best envelop the story and all kinds of sonic goodness."

While little is known about Ocean's next LP, which is due out on Def Jam this spring, the anticipation has been steadily building. After releasing Nostalgia, Ultra, the then-unknown saw his fanbase grow by leaps and bounds thanks to soul-drenched ballads like "Novacane" and "Swim Good." During his Fall 2011 tour, however, Frank performed two new songs slated for the still-untitled album: "Super Rich Kids" and the bouncy and bassy "Disillusioned." Whether they make the final track list remains to be seen.

In just a few months, the OFWGKTA singer shot up from music's underground and began working with superstars Jay-Z, Kanye West and Beyoncé, contributing to Watch the Throne and B's 4.

"I guess I'm just inspired to tell stories," Frank said about his writing process. "You gotta make sure the listener is listening to you, so if you put it into a song, often times, if the song is striking enough, then you can really deliver the story most effectively while keeping the ear of the listener the whole time. I guess it all starts with the stories for me."

How much are you anticipating Frank Ocean's next album? Tells us in the comments.

Apparently you can't keep Nick Cannon down for long. Just days after being hospitalized for mild kidney failure, the TV personality let his fans know he's ready to put it all behind him.

Cannon took to Twitter to post a photo of himself in the hospital, getting his hair cut. He tweeted simply, "getting back to business." He later took to the social networking site to promote some of his pals who were DJing in Los Angeles.

One of Cannon's DJ friends spoke to People.com about his condition. "I was beyond shocked when I learned Nick had a kidney issue," DJ Irie said. "Of all the people, he is healthy beyond belief. He does not drink, he eats healthy and he works out regularly." The cause of Cannon's kidney failure is still unknown, and his friend reiterated just how well he takes care of himself. "Nick practices all of these healthy habits every day of his life," he said. "But he is rational and smart and taking care of it by being in the hospital, where he belongs now."

Cannon was transferred to an L.A.-area facility after initially being hospitalized in Aspen, where he was vacationing with his wife, Mariah Carey, and their twins, Moroccan and Monroe. "As always, he's in good spirits considering the situation," Carey said about her hubby, noting that he was "in a lot of pain" and that "the situation is not easy. We really appreciate everybody's love and support."

Selena Gomez will wave her magic wand one final time on January 6 when the series finale of "Wizards of Waverly Place" airs. And as she looks forward to what's next in 2012, she says one thing she won't be doing is releasing new music.

"We're going to take a break from music," Gomez told E! News. "My band and I are going to chill on that for a second. I'll be doing two films in the beginning of [2012], which I'm excited about. They are both different and things I've never played before and will be fun for me."

As she closes the door on "Wizards" for good, and on her music for now, the teen superstar says that saying goodbye to her Disney show is bittersweet. "[My fans are] definitely not [ready for it to end], according to my Twitter feed and everything else," she said. "Of course, we could stay on, but we want to move on and stuff. But the show will live on forever and we're all grateful for that. I spent more time with them than my own family. It was amazing."

But fans of the star should prepare for what's next. Gomez will shoot the darker "Spring Breakers" in early 2012 and has been rumored to be attached to a film called "Hot Mess."

For "Spring Breakers," Gomez will work with director Harmony Korine (the man behind the super-dark '90s classic "Kids"). The movie revolves around a group of college girls who rob a restaurant to pay for their spring break. After they land in jail, they become entangled with the drug and arms dealer who bailed them out. James Franco, Vanessa Hudgens and Emma Roberts are also attached to the project.

"It's a different character than I have ever played before," Gomez told MTV News about the project. "It's a different kind of vibe, I think, than people are used to seeing me in. What you're going to see is more raw, I think. It's going to be raw and more about acting."
