Here in the States, Madonna sat down with ABC News and had some interesting comments about Lady Gaga. In another interview, on Friday's (January 13) "The Graham Norton Show," the singer seemed to take the high road and likened her early days of hustling in New York City to Gaga's beginnings.

"When I first saw her, I saw her performing at a very small club in Manhattan a couple of years ago, maybe it was like three years ago," she said. "I was actually really impressed by her. I thought she was really cool and she did remind me of me back in the day. I liked her rawness and there was something fresh about there and ballsy, and when she spoke to the audience, she sounded like she had a similar sense of humor to me, quite ironic, and I liked her. So I do think she is very talented."

That was really the end of the subject during their chat, other than when Madonna teased the British talk-show host about naming his dog after her. However, when he said his other dog was named Bailey, she quipped, "Not Gaga?"

Some of that sentiment was mirrored in Madge's ABC interview, the rest of which airs on Friday's night's 20/20. While she did call Gaga's "Born This Way" song "reductive" when asked about comparisons to her own "Express Yourself," she went on to say that she sees a lot of her own work in Gaga's.

"I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it's amusing and flattering and well-done," she said, later adding that she thinks Gaga is "a very talented artist" and that she's making a "statement about taking something that was in the zeitgeist, you know, 20 years ago and turning it inside out and reinterpreting it."

Madonna is currently making the rounds promoting her next album, M.D.N.A., as well as her film "W.E."

Nicki Minaj Producers Explain 'Your Love' Sample

Pop and Oak faced major sample issues with Pink Friday track, in Mixtape Daily.

Behind the Beats: Pop and Oak
Fans might not know Pop and Oak by name, but they damn sure know their beats. Trey Songz's "Unusual," Big Sean and Kanye West's "Marvin & Chardonnay" and, of course, Nicki Minaj's 2010 single "Your Love" are just a few of the duo's hits.

Now they're up for a Grammy thanks to their work on Nicki's Pink Friday, which is nominated in the Best Rap Album category.

Pop, a Philadelphia native, and his production partner, Oak, who hails from Istanbul, Turkey, have been working as a duo since 2008, back when they first produced "Your Love" for a then-emerging Minaj. " 'Your Love' was a song that didn't make Beam Me Up Scotty, the mixtape," Pop told Mixtape Daily.

Nicki was super-critical of her performance on the song, but after it eventually leaked at the top of 2010, there was no stopping it — well, there was one little obstacle to clear. The original leaked version featured a sample of Annie Lennox's 1995 version of "No More I Love You's," but after the U.K. singer wouldn't clear the sample, Pop and Oak had to come up with an alternative.

"They didn't let us clear the sample, so the version that leaked wasn't the version that got on the radio. We ended up re-creating it," Oak said.

The duo redid the sample a little too well, it seemed. Even after the switch-up, Lennox's lawyers continued to reach out, thinking Nicki's new version of "Your Love" still incorporated the sample. "They thought what they were hearing on the radio was still the master," Oak said.

"Annie Lennox thought she was hearing herself, which was fly as hell," Pop added.

Vinny's 'Jersey Shore' Anxiety 'Will Help Others'

Psychiatrist talks to MTV News after the star left the show on Thursday's episode to address his lifelong struggle with clinical anxiety.
By James Montgomery

On Thursday night's "Jersey Shore," viewers were given a glimpse inside Vinny Guadagnino's lifelong (though closely guarded) struggle with clinical anxiety — a battle that finally forced him to leave the show and return home to Staten Island.

It was a decidedly somber moment on a show that more often than not focuses solely on good times. But Guadagnino's condition shouldn't come as all that much of a shock: according to estimates, 15 to 25 percent of the population suffer from some form of anxiety disorder, and most of the time, those conditions remain undiagnosed. Which is why the "Shore" star going public with his personal struggle is such a big deal. Perhaps by doing so, he will inspire others to do the same.

"I was really struck by the honesty and the candor. I didn't expect that to be on national television," Dr. Sue Varma, a Manhattan psychiatrist and faculty member at NYU's Langone Medical Center, told MTV News. "As private as it is, if you're a public figure like he is, and you're dealing with an issue, you can bring awareness to it. It will help other people suffering from [an anxiety disorder] to come out without fear of being ostracized. It will get people talking and get people help."

Varma said that many of the thoughts and feelings Guadagnino discussed on the episode are all fairly common to those suffering from an anxiety disorder. And his anxiety was only exacerbated by his hard-charging Seaside Heights surroundings.

"You hear Vinny talking about not having his family around, not having a regular sleep schedule, going out a lot, drinking ... routine is really big, sleep is huge. For every psychiatric disorder, sleep is a symptom, either sleeping too little or sleeping too much," she said. "Often you'll hear somebody say they're having ruminating thoughts, they're obsessing, they're thinking about the same things over and over again, and often that keeps them from falling asleep.

"People who are anxious tend to stay in their head, because it helps them avoid their emotions. As long as they're thinking, they feel they're doing something to prevent something bad from happening. And that disconnects them from their surroundings," she continued. "And a lot of people who have anxiety also have depression, and depression brings about changes in appetite, loss of concentration, memory problems and, in severe cases, even suicide. You become isolated ... you lose your sense of pleasure in life. And anxiety, when it's untreated, when somebody feels it's out of control, that can bring on depression."

And the fact that Guadagnino managed to keep his anxiety a secret for so long doesn't surprise Varma one bit; after all, millions suffer from similar disorders, and more often than not, their friends and family aren't even aware of it. Or, if they are, they're not sure how they can help.

"All psychiatric conditions are medical conditions, so in the way people have diabetes or high blood pressure, that needs to be taken seriously, they have real biological circumstances, so does anxiety or depression," she continued. "It's a medical disorder, and people really think it's a mood, a phase that you're in, a funk that you're in, and you can just snap out of it. You can't. Anxiety disorders are really an umbrella, and there's seven or eight major categories that fall under that. People who have it are integrated amongst us ... there are plenty of people that you're working with that you don't realize have it, because they seem so functional. And having seen previous episodes, I wouldn't have realized [Guadagnino had a disorder] until he came forward."

Varma added that there are a variety of treatments available to those battling anxiety disorders — but the key is getting those with conditions to admit they need help. That's always been the biggest battle, though now that Guadagnino has gone public, perhaps those like him will follow suit.

"It's really important to let people know that there's no stigma in this," Varma said. "There are millions of people suffering from this, and it's treatable."

"Vinny knew he needed to make some changes and reach out for support from his family to feel better," said Courtney Knowles of the Jed Foundation. "Taking those steps can be hard, but so many people like Vinny have found ways to manage their anxiety. Hopefully, his example will remove some of the stigma around these conditions, and inspire others to take action to feel better and improve their lives."

Pete Wentz Talks Future Of Black Cards

Despite departure of singer Bebe Rexha, Wentz tells MTV News 'Black Cards isn't done.'
By James Montgomery

Pete Wentz is reshuffling Black Cards, his post-Fall Out Boy project that, to date, has yielded a string of poppy, peppy live shows and a handful of remixes, but not a proper album (despite promises it would be coming in the summer of 2011).

The changes began earlier this week, when the group deleted the name of frontwoman Bebe Rexha from their Facebook page and announced a new mixtape that had her noticeably absent on the cover. That touched off a wave of speculation that Rexha had been booted from the band, and that perhaps the very future of Black Cards was in doubt.

On Friday (January 13), the band officially confirmed Rexha's departure in a statement on their website that also seemed to hint that perhaps the Black Cards were finished. (Wentz closed the statement with "The Black Cards are dead. Long live the Black Cards.") But, in a series of emails to MTV News, Wentz let it be known that the band will continue — in one form or another.

"Right now, [the band] is just Spencer [Peterson] and me. Who knows what tomorrow brings. There are a bunch of people I'd like to collaborate with and make some noise," he wrote. "We have a few brand new songs that I can't wait for people to hear."

Of course, Wentz didn't clarify whether the Black Cards would be making music as a proper band, or as a remix project, as they've been doing in recent months. "Albums are so 20th Century," he wrote when asked about the band's upcoming plans. "Mixtape out in the next week or so." But he did want to set the record straight about Rexha's departure. Simply put, it was anything but acrimonious.

"Don't believe everything you read. Fact checking isn't really a priority for internet message boards," he wrote. "[It was] a mutual decision. Bebe will forever be a homie, and we look forward to hearing music from her solo career."

Wentz also said that he hoped the songs the band recorded with Rexha would see the light of day eventually ("I'd hate for them to just gather dust," he wrote), and closed by basically contradicting everything he had written in that official statement. Namely, the Black Cards aren't finished ... no matter who's in the band.

"Black Cards isn't done," he wrote. "More than the mixtape will be released."

Lana Del Rey Says 'Saturday Night Live' Gig Not A 'Fluke'

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 12:09 AM PST

'I may not have a record out now, but I have been singing for a very long time,' Del Rey tells critics who argue she hasn't earned 'SNL' slot.
By James Montgomery

Lana Del Rey

Within the span of six months, Lana Del Rey has risen from a much-discussed blog curio to a major-label recording artist with an anticipated disc (Born to Die, due at the end of the month) waiting in the wings.

It's the kind of leap few have made, one that's led many to question whether she deserves so much so quickly. This weekend, she'll perform on "Saturday Night Live," the kind of gig usually reserved for the biggest of the big — and, yes, those same critics have already expressed their displeasure over that fact.

So when Del Rey stopped by the MTV Newsroom earlier this week to discuss her meteoric climb, we asked about the backlash over her "SNL" performance. Not surprisingly, she had plenty to say on the matter.

"I definitely think it's an honor. ... I don't think they've ever had anyone [perform] who didn't even have a record out, so I do appreciate it," she said. "[But I got it] because I'm a good musician. And I may not have a record out now, but I have been singing for a very long time, and I think that ['SNL' creator] Lorne [Michaels] knows that, and everyone over there knows that. It's not a fluke decision.

"It's not a traditional choice for 'Saturday Night Live,' especially because the content of the record is different; it's not pop," she continued. "But they're also having ... Bon Iver, so again, not the most traditional choice."

Though she's aware there will be plenty of folks watching her Saturday, Del Rey remains rather unfazed by the whole thing. In fact, she doesn't care what her critics have to say, and she's not interested in debating whether she's paid her dues. To be honest, she's just focused on not screwing up royally.

"You just think to yourself, 'Don't f--- up.' And that's it. That's all you ever think with live television. You hope that it goes well, and I'm just going to put my dress on, there's going to be a spotlight, I got this amazing band I've worked with this year, they'll be there," she said. "I don't even know what I'm singing yet. I'm singing 'Video Games,' and I don't know what the second song is. ... A lot of it depends on what's going on with my family and everyone around me. If I have other things to think about, and I'm not in my own way, it doesn't really matter. Sometimes it seems more important to me than others."

While Katy Perry was missing in action at Wednesdays People's Choice Awards, where she won five prizes, the pop star was spotted on the set of an Adidas commercial in California this week.

A photograph of Perry, who happened to be wearing the new Adidas Originals X Jeremy Scott collection, posing with fan Eric Berlanger first appeared on the It's Just Roxie Tumblr page before going viral. It marks the first time that the pop singer has been photographed after her husband Russell Brand filed for divorce New Year's weekend. The last time she was photographed was in the days leading up to the announcement, when she was in Hawaii on vacation without Brand.

"It was great to see her. I met her a couple times before," Berlanger told UsMagazine.com of hanging with Perry on the Santa Barbara shoot (the singer hails from the SoCal town). "I am a big fan! She was great, really nice. She seemed happy."

As Perry settles back into public life after her split from Brand, she has also resumed her usual cat tweeting ways. On Thursday (January 12), she only wrote "meow," before posting a photo of her cat Kitty Purry.

As the Grammy Awards approach, it seems like fans will see more of the colorful singer. Perry is up for two awards at the February 12 show, and she is scheduled for two concerts later this month, one in Jakarta, Indonesia, and another in the Philippines.

"I am so grateful for all the love and support I've had from people around the world," she wrote a week after Brand filed for divorce in her first comments about the split. "You guys have made my heart happy again."

Tim Burton Had To 'Find The Tone' For 'Dark Shadows'

Director talks to MTV News about time travel, 3-D and skipping his homework to watch the melodramatic vampire soap.
By John Mitchell

Director Tim Burton has kept such a tight lid on his forthcoming big-screen adaptation of the late-'60s soap opera "Dark Shadows" that last week we were forced to imagine things we'd want to see in a trailer for the film because one hasn't even dropped yet.

News on the film has been scarce — until now! Last week, MTV's resident movie guru Josh Horowitz talked to Burton about his busy 2012, and the director was forced to dish on his biggest project of the year. Burton told MTV News he was busy "editing and doing effects" for the film now. Though the film will not be "an effects-heavy picture, it's still got stuff in there," he said.

At the BAFTA Britannia Awards late last year, MTV News talked to Burton's partner Helena Bonham Carter, who appears frequently in his films, including "Alice in Wonderland," "Sweeney Todd" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," and she told us that "Shadows" was a childhood obsession of Burton's. "This was a thing that he raced home to see when he was about age 10," she said. "So it was returning to his childhood roots of what he loved watching."

Burton echoed her comments, telling MTV, "People like Michelle [Pfeiffer] grew up watching it. Some of the cast knew about it, some didn't, but they were all game for it — getting into the weird spirit of what 'Dark Shadows' was. There was a generation of us who would run home from school to watch it. That's probably why we were such bad students. We should have been doing homework; we were watching 'Dark Shadows' instead."

"Shadows" bested "Spider-Man" to make the Elite Eight and is up against "The Dark Knight Rises" in round two of the MTV Movie Brawl 2012 — vote here!

For the director, the most difficult thing in bringing "Shadows" to the big screen has been mastering the tone of the melodramatic soap. "It was hard to put into words the tone it was. It had a weird seriousness, but it was funny in a way that wasn't really funny. We just had to feel our way through it to find the tone," Burton said. "We didn't do any real rehearsals, because the cast all came in at different times. But there was an old photo of the [original] cast which I always remembered, so a couple days before shooting, we got the whole cast together to take a similar shot so everyone could see each other and get that vibe from doing a group photo. That helped set the tone more than anything."

Burton didn't reveal much about the vampire flick's plot but did (somewhat) resolve a few lingering questions we've had about the film. Asked if the film's story — like that of the show — would include time travel, the director admitted that, while audiences will get to see the Collins family in the late-1700s, most of the film is set "in 1972, which to the era of 'Dark Shadows' is the modern era."

Elaborating further on time travel, Burton added, "For me, that's when the show kind of made me want to do homework. I was like, 'Wait a minute!' That came near the end of the trail of the series."

So it seems unlikely that the main story line resurrected for the early '90s remake of the series, which had Victoria Winters traveling through time to Collinwood circa Barnabas' (Johnny Depp) transformation into a vampire, will be incorporated here. Perhaps the trip back Burton refers to here is instead a flashback to show audiences how Angelique (Eva Green) used her evil magic to turn Barnabas into a creature of the night?

Burton also confirmed that the film will not be released in 3-D, as his version of "Alice" was. "No. It's the '70s, man. Only 'Frankenstein's Bloody Terror' was in 3-D," the director tells MTV News. "That's the only one I remember from that time."

Knowing that we won't have to wear a pair of funny glasses to get the full effect of "Dark Shadows" makes us even more excited for the May 11 release!

Are you excited that Burton and company are keeping the time-travel plot out of "Dark Shadows"? Sound off in the comments below and tweet me @JohnMitchell83 with your thoughts and suggestions for future columns!

'Abraham Lincoln' Star Benjamin Walker Is One To Watch In 2012

Walker talks to MTV News about playing a vampire-killing president.
By Josh Horowitz

MTV News' first couple minutes on the set of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" last spring were freaky. There we were, on a soundstage in New Orleans, and yet standing in front of us was the 16th President of the United States himself. A Fox publicist's assurance that we were set to talk to Benjamin Walker, star and namesake of "Vampire Hunter," rather than the man who was gunned down in a theater in 1865, did little to diminish the creepiness, because we were starring at no actor but Honest Abe himself.

Eventually we composed ourselves, and an epic and whirlwind day on the set of director Timur Bekmambetov's adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's best-selling novel proceeded without a hitch. Now, we're rolling out our exclusive look at the set, including interviews with Walker, Bekmambetov and costar Anthony Mackie. It's all part of our Ones to Watch series, a weeklong look at actors and actresses set to have amazing years in 2012.

Out of his Abe getup and with "Vampire Hunter" set for release on June 22, Walker called us up to chat in greater depth about his experience in the genre mashup and why the film will show us Lincoln as we've truly never seen him before.

MTV News: Is it a daunting proposition knowing what's to come? This is a summer tent pole and you're the guy. Do you feel a little bit of that weight?

Benjamin Walker: Having never done it, I really don't even know what to be afraid of. I'm just taking it in stride.

MTV: Was this role, when you heard about it, something that was like, "Oh my god, that's something I'm dying to do?" Or was it something that took a little discussing with your team to say, "Hey, this would be cool for you."

Walker: Well, I had just finished doing a rock musical about Andrew Jackson, so I was already suited for it. What really got me excited was Timur. I liked his work, and as soon as I found out he was directing it, I wanted to be a part of it.

MTV: Can you give me a sense of what the process was like in getting the role? Did you have to go through multiple auditions and screen tests?

Walker: I met him in LA months before I got the job, and then he came and saw the Andrew Jackson show. There was a test that we did together with no prosthetics, and then we had the test Greg Cannom and Will Huff, the makeup artists. After that, the deal was closed, but we're talking about over the span of six or seven months.

MTV: What's the preparation for a role like this? What were the things you needed to get done before you stepped onto set for the first time?

Walker: First off, I had to lose about 30 pounds. I put on a lot of weight for Andrew Jackson, and Lincoln, particularly later in his life, was a very slight man. I learned ax fighting, which was a whole new martial art that they created for the film. Then I started brushing up on my Abe Lincoln history.

MTV: Was the weight loss easy for you to do?

Walker: Who can do that? It's the easiest way to do it, when a studio's willing to help you do it, and then you're training at the same time so you're exercising regularly and heavily. Certainly the easiest way to do it, but certainly not pleasant.

MTV: Tell me about Lincoln's fighting style.

Walker: The stunt guys and the fight choreographer, Mic Rodgers, who is a stunt legend, and a gentleman named Don Lee — all of these guys are martial artists and stuntmen. They created a form of fighting that would be unique to Lincoln at that time, that's never been in a movie before. As I'm learning it, they're creating it. It was really fascinating.

MTV: What is it comparable to?

Walker: It's comparable to a kind of bow staff fighting. If you imagine a shorter bow staff with a blade on the end of it, a kind of continuously spinning, ruthless and simultaneously graceful martial art.

MTV: When I was on set, I noticed the makeup on you was remarkable up close. I would imagine that you have to do this fighting stuff in that getup, obviously. That seems like a twofold challenge for you. Did that get in the way at all?

Walker: It became uncomfortable over time. You start to sweat under it. You're wearing a three-piece wool suit and fighting vampires and you're wearing a mask. It really becomes uncomfortable, but the men who created it, Greg Cannom and Will Huff, are absolute geniuses. If I ever felt frustrated, all I had to do was catch a reflection of this amazing sculpture that they had created on my face. The frustration would just fall away because I knew how great it looked.

MTV: Did your friends or wife visit you on set, and what did they make of your look?

Walker: Mostly everyone was creeped out by it because it's Abraham Lincoln, and I'm talking about where we're going to go have dinner.

MTV: So you didn't ever walk off set in downtown New Orleans as Abraham Lincoln?

Walker: No, because we're trying to keep it and how magnificent it looks as secret as possible. I was kind of sequestered to a tent anytime I was off shooting.

MTV: I'm anxious to see some finished footage in a trailer. Have they shown you much yet?

Walker: I've only seen some ADR material, and it's very, very exciting.

MTV: Did you guys shoot it in 3-D or are you posting it in 3-D?

Walker: If I'm not mistaken, we're posting it in 3-D.

MTV: Was the book itself useful? Had you read the book prior to this opportunity coming up?

Walker: I read the book as soon as I knew I was going to meet on it. It's helpful in terms of understanding the style and the seriousness with which we embrace this mashup, but there are going to be things in the movie that are surprises to people who know the book. But, also, we pay homage to what's great about the book.

MTV: My sense is — correct me if I'm wrong — that it feels like I was on the set of a Lincoln biopic because I didn't see any of the action stuff. It feels like it was all shooting extremely seriously and then you add that layer of crazy action and irreverence in that form. Does it feel like we're in a drama that's infected with action and violence?

Walker: It's more like we looked at Lincoln through the lens of that. What we do is embrace a dramatic story. It's in the title. You get it. Vampires. Now we commit to it, and you get to go on that ride.

MTV: Do you feel a little bit of resentment toward Mr. Daniel Day-Lewis? This guy can't let you be the one Lincoln of the year. You have some competition from the greatest living actor on the planet.

Walker: Luckily, they're very different movies.

MTV: What can you guarantee to me is better about your Lincoln movie than his Lincoln movie?

Walker: Our vampires will be much better than their vampires.

MTV: Although, I would like to see Daniel Day-Lewis fight vampires. You could do a mashup there one day. Are your presidential days behind you?

Walker: I would love to continue through the cannon of American presidents. They're fascinating people. America's story is a story that fascinates me. I'll never turn down a president.

MTV: Let it be known to casting directors everywhere.

Walker: It has to be a weird interpretation of the president, apparently.

MTV: A very specialized career you have going. 'Paradise Lost,' what's going on with that? Is that a stop? Is that a go?

Walker: It sounds like what they're trying to do is so ambitious they need a little bit more time to prep. They're looking for the summer, which is fine by me. It's also the kind of movie that if we're not ready, we don't need to start. They're doing something in a technological aspect that nobody's ever done in a movie. If they want a little extra time, they can have it.

MTV: I assume you're jazzed about that one. You like the script and you like the interpretation? We haven't seen many blockbusters made of poems in the history of cinema, but this will be something unique, I think.

Walker: That story is the story that began all stories. It's one of the greatest stories of all time. It's something I studied in school and I'm excited to be a part of.

MTV: Are you still doing some comedy in New York or elsewhere?

Walker: Oh yeah, Find the Funny is at Joe's Pub usually the first of every month. We're working out some kinks for the New Year, but we're certainly going to be starting out here shortly. It's something I love to do and something I love to be a part of.

MTV: That side of you is something we haven't seen on the big screen yet. Is that opportunity is exciting for you? To bring a little bit of that stage persona to the big screen work?

Walker: I think it would be a lot of fun. There's little greater in life than making someone laugh. If you can do it in the medium of film, it's even more rewards, I imagine.

MTV: Do you know what the next gig is, whether it's on stage or in front of the camera?

Walker: Well, the industry is coming back together after the holidays. There are a lot of possibilities. "Paradise" moving has changed some things. So far, I'm gearing up for the press tour for "Lincoln," which is going to be a huge undertaking.

MTV: Have you talked to friends and family that have gone through this sort of thing yet to know what you're getting into? It's a lot of sitting in hotel rooms and answering the same questions for hours on end, carpets.

Walker: I could probably ask you what it's like. You know better than anybody. You probably have to be much more miserable than I have to be.

MTV: I'm looking forward to seeing how glazed over your eyes are when I see you at your first junket. Will it be your first junket you've done?

Walker: You can reserve the right, because we know each other, to reach across the table and swat me, to bring me back to life if you need to.

MTV: There was talk that you did a workshop for this "American Psycho" musical. Was that something that was fun? Is that something you're hoping might come together in another form?

Walker: I'd love to do it. The music was great. Duncan Sheik did the music. It's a very timely story right now. It's a musical about the deregulation of American finance through the lens of a crazy person. It's a lot of fun. The thing that's great about "American Psycho" as a play or musical is that it's funnier.

MTV: Were you a fan of Mary Harron's film? Obviously, Christian Bale was amazing in that as well.

Walker: That was an amazing movie.

MTV: A little bit of a different take, it sounds like. I guess accentuate the humor a little bit more.

Walker: A lot of the things that happened in the film were inferred through voice-over, with a stage play, it's direct address. You're literally having a conversation with the audience.

MTV: Is there Phil Collins? Is there Genesis in the stage play?

Walker: Oh, yeah. "Feel It Coming In the Air Tonight."

The series premiere of MTV's new docu-reality show "Caged" brought plenty of hard knocks and drama on Monday night. The show centers on the lives of MMA fighters both in the cage and out, and from what we saw, both bring heavy blows.

From the rocky relationship between castmembers Wes and Red to fellow fighter Daniel's tragic loss of his girlfriend Hannah, this season is sure to bring plenty of drama. Even the training leading up to a big fight had its heart-pounding moments, like Wes' decision to don a sauna suit in a hot car in order to sweat away water weight.

While the premiere focused more on the personal lives of Daniel and Wes, episode two brings more attention to the series' other standout castmember Matt, a.k.a. "Danger."

"In the next episode, you'll see a little more of my story and [the show] will start picking up more with me," Danger told MTV News.

In last Monday's episode we saw a bit of that story begin to develop. Danger confronted his sister about her decision to be a stripper, but the season teaser shown at the end of the episode alluded to an even bigger family problem: his mother's struggles with alcohol.

"At the time, my mother was going through a really difficult time, so I move in with her, I quit my job and start training full time. And it's a roller coaster of emotions and all sorts of things go wrong, all sorts of things go right, and a lot of things fell into my favor and a lot of things didn't," Danger said. "But y'all stay tuned and hopefully enjoy my story and become a fan of mine. I'm a hardworking fighter and I think you'll be able to tell."

While we've seen the downs, the series isn't without its ups. Danger was careful not to reveal too much, but he clued us in to what some of those ups will include over the course of this season.

"In coming episodes, you'll be able to see good friends of mine — a buddy of mine, Tony Kelly, he's coming up. He's a good training partner and one of my best training partners. I've been training with that dude now for two, three years — so very excited to see him get his opportunity to shine."

You can catch "Caged" on Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on MTV.

Jersey Shore High Five: Vinny Leaves?!

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 10:02 PM PST

Plus: Pauly gets burned ... and robbed.
By Jim Cantiello

Vinny on "Jersey Shore" on Thursday

Thursday night's "Jersey Shore" brought back season-one hookups and introduced a new kleptomaniac, while Pauly's "GTL" game is all out of whack thanks to a gnarly tanning-bed sunburn. Plus, Vinny's anxiety disorder caught up with him and the fan favorite moved out of the house for some R&R. Oh no! Click on the embedded video below to catch my five favorite moments from this week's "Jersey Shore."

5. Jionni Gets Wet
After the gang got caught in the rain, Snooki's man Jionni needed some dry threads.

What a guy the Situation is! Gives Jionni the clothes off his back and gives America the need for brain bleach yet again when he brings up the rumor that Snooki's mouth and his "situation" are intimately familiar with each other. Woof.

4. Winner Winner Chicken Dinner
At Karma, the girls got a little tipsy. Obvs. And Deena shared an adorable euphemism for getting her sex on.

I wonder what Snooki calls it!

So in other words, sex with Deena is like winning a trip to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory and sex with Snooki is like a flavorless, usually dry overcooked slab of meat. Noted.

3. Face Off
DJ Pauly D said, "Screw SPF" and ended up S-O-L. That sound could only mean one thing: A "Jersey Shore" r-r-r-r-r-remix!!!

2. Sticky-Fingered Hookup
Later, Pauly got down with a DTF girl, but as soon as the smooshing ended, Pauly's long national nightmare began ...

To add insult to injury, DTF girl turned out to be Winona Ryder with a touch of that crazy Israeli girl from season one. Because the next day? "Ding dong, here's your chain that I stole. Yay, I'm back on television! Hi, mom, I'm a star!" God help us if she keeps coming back to find her missing shoes. I'm on to you, shady lady.

1. Vinny Leaves?!
Ugh, feelings? Boring! Get drunk, f--- a girl ... I don't watch this show for touchy-feely crap. Boooo!

But seriously, poor Vinny says he's having severe anxiety attacks. I know what will make him feel better. Vinny, smack Snooki in the face with your balls.

Still depressed? Hmm, that usually works. I don't know what's gonna happen!

Vinny actually left?!?

So now who has the biggest penis in the house? This is important, "Jersey Shore"! Don't leave us hangin'! Pun intended?

'Sweet Valley High' To Be A Musical, Diablo Cody Confirms

Diablo Cody explored the life of one particular "Young Adult" author in her screenplay for the Charlize Theron film. Next up, she herself is taking on the challenge of adapting a beloved young-adult franchise, "Sweet Valley High," for the big screen.

And while she's knee-deep in work for the project, when MTV News caught up with the screenwriter at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards on Thursday night in Los Angeles, she revealed one very juicy detail about the adaptation.

"Oh my gosh! OK, so I am so excited about 'Sweet Valley High.' There's original songs being written for it right now, which is the most exciting development. They're amazing. They're being written by these Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning songwriters from Broadway who are the best," she gushed, confirming that the film will be a musical version of the novels. "Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt, who wrote [the Broadway show] 'Next to Normal'; they're amazing and I'm sorry, I could go on and on. But I'm very excited about 'Sweet Valley High.' It's going to blow people's minds. I haven't really had the chance to talk about this yet, so it's exciting."

The Francine Pascal novels (which debuted in 1983) follow the lives of twin teenagers, Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, who live in Sweet Valley, California. The series is full of puppy love, teen angst and the kind of drama and comedy that keeps people tuning into the CW and ABC Family week after week. If you've never read the books before, Cody assures you that you can still love the movie. "It [has] a lot of familiar '80s awesomeness for fans of the series, and if you've never heard of 'Sweet Valley High' you will want to," she said, noting that casting plans are still to be determined.

"Obviously I will be playing the twins. Old-fashioned '60s-style split screen," she joked.

Check out everything we've got on "Sweet Valley High."

Lil Wayne has a story to tell. Well, Lil Wayne probably has a bunch of stories to tell, but this fall the multiplatinum rap superstar will release "Gone Till November," his memoir based on the diaries he kept while he was locked up for eight months on Rikers Island in New York.

The book, which will come out in November, two years after Weezy's release from prison, is being described as an internal monologue, according to the Associated Press. It will be released through Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group.

Weezy was freed from Rikers Island on November 4, 2010, after he served eight months of a year-long sentence for an attempted gun possession charge. Police had arrested the rapper in 2007 following his headlining performance at New York's Beacon Theatre. Wayne eventually pleaded guilty to the charge and turned himself in to authorities in March of 2010.

MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway caught up with Wayne in Miami at a welcome-home party just days after his prison release. When asked how his transition from prison was going, Weezy simply responded with a grin. "I forgot about yesterday," he said after thanking his fans and family for their support.

He hasn't completely forgotten, however, now that Wayne, who has since toured the world and released his double-platinum Tha Carter IV, plans to reminisce a little.

Will you be picking up Lil Wayne's "Gone Till November"? Tell us in the comments

Amber Rose Called Kim Kardashian 'Home Wrecker' Out Of Frustration

'I don't date men in relationships; I don't do that to other women,' Rose says on 'RapFix Live.'

Maybe "home wrecker" wasn't the best way to describe Kim Kardashian, but Amber Rose contends that she was defending herself when she recently told Star magazine that Kimmy and her former beau, Kanye West, were carrying on an affair behind Rose's back.

"I don't like to call women names, because I'm about women empowerment. I spoke on my emotions that day — I was just so frustrated," Rose told MTV News' Sway when she appeared on "RapFix Live" on Wednesday.

The rumor mill has been buzzing that it was Rose who caused the breakup between Kardashian and NFL star Reggie Bush. Amber does admit to dating Reggie, but she insists that it was after his relationship with Kim and after her romance with Kanye had ended.

It's all very accusatory, yet Amber maintains that Kardashian sent pictures of herself to West while he was still in a relationship with Rose. When Sway asked about the pictures, the "Fame" singer didn't want to comment any further, but she stood behind her original comments. "The story, it's true," she said.

What Amber couldn't stand behind was the name-calling. She says she called Kim a home wrecker out of frustration. "I hear that all the time, Sway, and I'm like, that's not true," Rose said of the rumor that she came between Bush and Kardashian.

Rose went on to reenact her Star interview, paraphrasing what she told the reporter. "Kim is the home wrecker, I'm not the home wrecker. I don't date men in relationships; I don't do that to other women," Amber said. "I got frustrated and I said it."

Part of the frustration came from the media-savvy Kardashian family, Amber said. "I feel like Kim and her family, they manipulate the media and they want people to believe what they want them to believe," she said. "I just had to put the truth out there and I had to get it off my chest."

The stately model, who is now dating Wiz Khalifa (and seems very happy, we must say), explained that she and Bush dated briefly in a rebound relationship after she split with 'Ye and he split with Kim, but there was no affair between them. "We were both kind of, like, hurt," she said. "We were each other's rebounds, basically. It was nothing serious. We didn't love each other. We just became good friends, basically."

Justin Bieber Teams Up With will.i.am For <i>Believe</i>

He's already teased that Drake and Kanye West may make appearances on his next album, and on Thursday, Justin Bieber confirmed that another music industry heavyweight, will.i.am, will be assisting him on Believe.

Letting his fans know on Twitter that he's "gonna make that," the Black Eyed Peas frontman hyped up the collaboration further when he added, "let's make a hit tomorrow!! #collab. 'I gotta feeling this song is ganne be bigger than huge' #willpower."

The news comes as Bieber is deep in the studio working on his highly anticipated 2012 release. The team-up should make for an interesting track for the teen star. With Bieber hoping to recapture some of that Justin Timberlake/Timbaland magic from Timberlake's Future Sex/Love Sounds, will.i.am could bring some of that frenetic pop energy to Bieber's own work.

Last year, will made headlines when he worked with Britney Spears on her Femme Fatale song "Big Fat Bass."

Earlier this week, Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, teased that what he's heard of Believe has been "ridiculous." Bieber will turn 18 in March, and his team is hoping to bridge the gap between the boy we met on "Baby" and the man he's growing up to be.

"The only conversation we've had about Justin's album that we're about to do is it's really important that it's the proper transition, because we've seen him [with] 'Baby,' now we're watching him grow up," Bieber's longtime vocal producer, Kuk Harrell, told MTV News in November. "And we can't just throw him into the adult game right away. It has to be the proper transition. There's a record in between."

Are you excited for Justin Bieber's collabo with will.i.am? Let us know in the comments!

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' 'Sounds Very Familiar' To Madonna

'I certainly think she references me a lot in her work,' Queen of Pop tells ABC News.
By Jocelyn Vena

There was a hot debate raging about 12 months ago when Lady Gaga dropped her song "Born This Way," with people questioning whether the song sounds too much like Madonna's 1980s hit "Express Yourself."

As the discussion went viral, fans, critics and even Lady Gaga herself weighed in on it. Now, as Madge preps the release of her next album, M.D.N.A., and her film "W.E.," she's finally weighing in on the controversy. Madonna, known for her curt, pithy responses when asked about anyone who might take a cue or two from her playbook, sat down with ABC News recently and had some choice words for pop's latest princess.

"I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it's amusing and flattering and well-done," she explained of her onetime "Saturday Night Live" co-star. "When I heard ['Born This Way'] on the radio ... I said, 'that sounds very familiar' ... It felt reductive."

When asked if "reductive" was good or bad, Madonna replied, "Look it up."

The Queen of Pop did call Gaga "a very talented artist" and explained that she thinks that she's making a "statement about taking something that was in the Zeitgeist, you know, 20 years ago and turning it inside out and reinterpreting it."

Madonna also addressed her apparent penchant for kissing female pop stars. She recently made headlines when her "Gimme All Your Luvin" cohort Nicki Minaj tweeted that Madge had kissed her on the set of her video.

In true Madonna fashion, she brushed it off, saying, "It was her birthday. I gave her a birthday kiss. No tongue!"

Of course, Nicki is not the first pop star Madonna has locked lips with. Back in 2003, Madge shared kisses on the VMA stage with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. "Nice moment, good kisser. Cool," she remarked of Spears. When asked if she would kiss Spears again, she replied, "No, I already did it. I don't like to repeat myself."

For those who may have missed the "Nightline" interview on Thursday, it will air on Friday night (January 13) on "20/20."

Beyonce, Diddy Design Re-Election Swag For President Obama

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 05:45 AM PST

'Runway to Win' effort will donate proceeds to president's campaign.
By Gil Kaufman

Beyonce and Tina Knowles's design for President Obama's re-election campaign

Beyoncé was clearly keeping very busy in the weeks leading up to the birth of Billboard record-setting baby Blue Ivy
. Among the projects she participated in is "Runway to Win," in which a number of celebrities and fashion industry icons were tapped to design T-shirts and other swag for President Obama's re-election campaign.

According to New York magazine, the effort was spearheaded by Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who wrangled a number of her friends and fashion world peers to design shirts, tote bags, scarves and bracelets for the Obama campaign.

In addition to Beyoncé, Diddy and hip-hip impresario Russell Simmons, others who've thrown in include First Lady Michelle Obama fave designer Jason Wu, as well as Rachel Roy, Narciso Rodriguez, Marc Jacobs, Diane Von Furstenberg, rag & bone, Altuzarra, Alexander Wang, Tory Burch and Tracy Reese.

Beyoncé's effort, designed in conjunction with her mother, Tina Knowles, is a $45 white T-shirt with the phrases "yes we can," "words do inspire" and "transform a nation together," randomly scattered across the front in different fonts. Simmons' and Diddy's shirts have not yet been revealed.

The current fundraiser is a sequel of sorts to a similar campaign in 2008 called "Runway to Change," and the proceeds will go to the Obama Victory Fund. Pre-orders are being taken now and all the items are slated to go on sale online on February 7.

Though much of the attention has been focused on the increasingly nasty battle among a group of Republican politicians fighting to gain their party's presidential nomination, as MTV's Powerof12 has reported in both Iowa
 and New Hampshire
, the Obama re-election campaign is in full gear as well.

Adele To Make Performance Return At Brit Awards

After nearly four months of silence, Adele will break the whisper spell on February 21 at the Brit Awards. The Grammy-nominated singer has been off the live performance radar since surgery to stop bleeding from a polyp on her vocal cords
in November, but organizers of the show confirmed on Thursday that she will sing again at the event where she is nominated for three awards.

"F---ing happy, thank you for the nods xx," she Tweeted on Thursday in response to the nominations.

Adele is not, however, the most nominated act at the Brits. She shares three nods with Jessie J, while unknown-in-the U.S. singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran topped an nominees with four nominations. Among the acts tapped in the International Group category are: Foo Fighters, Fleet Foxes, Jay-Z/Kanye West, Lady Antebellum and Maroon 5. In the International Female Solo Artist Rihanna will face off against Beyoncé, Bjork, Feist and Lady Gaga.

While the Brit Awards confirmation is great news for Adele's fans, there is still no word on whether she'll take the stage
at the February 12 Grammy Awards, where she's up for six honors. She also Tweeted the message, "Looking forward to the @theGrammys on Feb. 12!" a short after her Brit Awards note, indicating that, at the very least, she'll be in the room for the show.

A recent report claimed that she is in talks to sing on the show now that she's begun talking again with her doctor's permission. Since she doesn't want to rush back and injure her vocal cord again, the singer is reportedly waiting until early next month to decide if she can sing in public again as early as the Grammys.
