Lady Gaga's Big 2012: A Psychic Weighs In

As 2012 rolls along, Lady Gaga has already teased she has some big plans ahead. So MTV News decided to look to New York-based psychic Jesse Bravo to see what fate has in store for the pop superstar. Bravo recently rolled up to the MTV News offices and looked into his crystal ball.

"Lady Gaga for 2012, it's going to be sort of a slower year for her because she has her tour, which means she's not putting out a lot of new material," Bravo explained, despite Gaga's tease that she is working on her follow-up to 2011's Born This Way. "So for me, when I sort of looked up around there to see what was happening for her, I saw her sales sort of slow down because of new material. But she's also building up this new momentum for running her base for this tour. This tour is going to be really good for her."

Gaga has already thought about the Born This Way Ball, tweeting over the holidays that she was pondering the things she wants to sell on tour. "Designing merch for the tour, when you see it you will die. #deathbyinexpensiveglamour," she wrote.

Mother Monster is also famously known for her wild style, which Bravo said won't disappoint in the next 12 months. "I believe her next big outfit is a cross between two things, and I was sort of stuck in between, like, where I should go with this because I saw two outfits, which means they can come in succession," he said. "I don't know which one is going to come first. But I will believe the one that I saw is this outfit, and I can't really describe it, but it's going to have lights embedded in it. So it's going to be pretty bizarre. And then I saw another outfit and it's like a body outfit, one that you spray-paint on, and I don't know if it's a stars-and-stripes theme, but I saw that there were stars and stripes in the right areas."

In addition to all the ups in her career, Gaga's personal life will also prosper, according to Bravo, which means that she may get even more serious with her rumored beau and "You and I" co-star, "Vampire Diaries" actor Taylor Kinney.

"Her personal life is going to stay stable for a while. The reason why is that on the outside she shows she's a strong character — and for business she is — but on the inside she's a mush. And so as a result, she needs to have her relationship in place, especially right now when she needs that support on going on something that's so big," he said. "Two years is a long, long time [to tour]. I don't think that relationship is going ... it's not going out."

Just how serious might they get? Well, Gaga, believe it or not, is already pondering a family, according to Bravo. (Although she did note in a recent interview that the only family she is focused on is her new music.)

"I also feel this need of having children. So I don't know how this is going to play because we know she has a tour and she's not going to stop the tour short to have a child," Bravo predicted. "And I know that work is on her mind, but I know that [her spirit guide] Liberace is telling me about a child. And I know that in the back of her mind, she wants one. I think with her, it's about scheduling ... and I would say we're looking somewhere at 2014-2015. That's going to be her time."

What do you think about Jesse Bravo's predictions for Lady Gaga? Tell us in the comments!

'Talk Nerdy to Me' returns with an all-new episode about Bane's hard-to-decipher voice, 'Star Trek 2' and the MTV Movie Brawl 2012 tournament.
By Josh Wigler

Welcome to 2012, fellow nerds! With return trips to Middle-earth and Gotham City in the cards, not to mention sightings of Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Ridley Scott's return to sci-fi on the horizon, the coming months are sure to usher in one of the most geek-friendly years of all time.

It's only appropriate then that "Talk Nerdy to Me" (the MTV News one-stop shop for all things comic books, movies and television) rises to the size and stature of the new year. That means more Hulk hands, light-sabers and action figures, more punch-out sound effects and — most importantly — more heated nerdy debate to come all throughout 2012 ... and it all starts now!

Watch the embedded video for the latest episode of "Talk Nerdy to Me," and read on for a synopsis of what we discussed this week on the show!

The Bane Problem
"Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" has been kicking ass and taking names at the box office for weeks now, thanks in no small part to the "Dark Knight Rises" prologue attached to IMAX prints of the Tom Cruise action vehicle. Fans are raving about the first look at Christopher Nolan's last Batman movie, except for one teensy, tiny problem: Bane's voice. The Caped Crusader's newest nemesis' mask-muffled muttering has left some viewers scratching their heads, and Nolan's apparent insistence on not improving the clarity of Bane's dialogue has only led to further bewilderment. But should fans really be so worried about the so-called "Bane problem," or is it all much ado about nothing? Find out what Team Nerdy thinks in this week's episode.

"Sherlock" Goes to Space
Between playing Britain's greatest detective and Middle-earth's most fearsome dragon, how many more iconic roles does Benedict Cumberbatch need to plop on his plate? Why not give him one more: The "Sherlock" and "War Horse" actor is beaming aboard J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek 2" as the film's lead villain, ending a long search that's seen actors Benicio del Toro and Edgar Ramirez circling the role. But the question remains: Who is Cumberbatch playing? "Nerdy's" Brian Phares expects a new character, while the rest of the team feels like screaming "KHAAAAAAAN!" Who do you think Cumberbatch is playing?

The Brawl for It All
Finally, nothing like a shameless plug to start the new year right! Team Nerdy took some time to talk about MTV Movie Brawl 2012, our current tournament to decide which movie you guys are most excited to see in the coming year. Some flicks like "Hunger Games" and "Breaking Dawn" are dominating as expected, but others — namely "The Dark Knight Rises," "Skyfall" and "The Amazing Spider-Man" — are underperforming, so much so that some so-called "shoo-ins" might not even make it into the March Madness-style bracket kicking off on Monday. We already put the question to "Avengers" and "Spider-Man" fans, but it bears repeating to the Batman and Bond crowd: Where are you guys? Time's running out!

Rihanna Leads 2012 Crossovers Into New Territory

'Battleship' takes pop star from Billboard to big screen, while Taylor Swift and Brooklyn Decker forge ahead in new career paths.
By Kara Warner

During this optimistic first week of the new year, it's time to think about our favorite entertainers who are poised to make a big impact outside their typical areas of expertise. We're talkin' crossovers, of course, including multitalented musicians-turned-actors, actors-turned-musicians, models-turned-actors, actors-turned-authors, wrestlers-turned-actors and other hyphenates!

Here's a look at a few of the stars who are making moves in new directions this year:

Rihanna
We've glimpsed her acting chops during performances and dramatic videos, but this year, RiRi is making the big move from music to movies with a role in the expected summer blockbuster "Battleship," due May 18. Not much has been revealed about her character yet, but we did get a brief look at her in action as a strong, capable Marine in the trailer. We also see her wielding a rather large gun alongside co-star Taylor Kitsch.

Brooklyn Decker
Speaking of attractive "Battleship" stars, swimsuit model-turned-actress Brooklyn Decker continues to carve out a new niche in her career. The blond beauty made a splash in last year's "Just Go With It," alongside Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, and will next be seen in the ensemble romantic comedy "What to Expect When You're Expecting," in which Decker plays Dennis Quaid's much younger wife. "Expecting" opens one week ahead of "Battleship," in which she plays Liam Neeson's daughter and Kitsch's girlfriend.

Chris Brown
Although he's still devoting the majority of his time to music, Chris Brown is broadening his horizons with forays into directing and acting. First up is Wale's clip for "Slight Work," which Brown co-directed with Godfrey Tabarez. He told MTV News recently that the gig didn't even feel like work. "This video is just fun," he said. "I mean, we're young, so it's only right to just do what we wanna do." Brown will also continue to pursue acting jobs in 2012, the first of which is "Planet B Boy," likely followed by a role in "Think Like a Man," based on the Steve Harvey book.

Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift has already has crossover success musically, when she went from a country singer to a mainstream sensation. This year, after her big-screen debut in 2011's star-stuffed "Valentine's Day" opposite then-boyfriend Taylor Lautner, it seems likely that Swift will once again be up on the big screen. Rumor has it the 22-year-old has been offered a role in the equally star-studded movie musical "Les Misérables," alongside Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, Helena Bonham Carter and possibly Amanda Seyfried. Fan reaction to the news has been mixed, but if she doesn't end up in that film, we're confident she'll wind up in another soon enough.

Honorable Mention: The Rock
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson deserves a lot of credit for becoming a successful and exceedingly popular wrestler with the WWE to begin with, the momentum from which he turned into an equally lucrative film career. Then last year he returned to the world of wrestling after a nearly seven-year hiatus, which was received with fans losing their minds, in a good way. Check out the video for proof. A few months later, he returned to the big screen in "Fast Five," which was one of the year's biggest hits at the box office. And don't forget his musical "stylings" on Wyclef Jean's catchy tune "It Doesn't Matter." The man cannot be stopped. Not only that, but after years of being branded simply as "The Rock," he is just as often referred to by his real name, Dwayne Johnson.

Perhaps we should consider awarding the most successful of this year's crossover stars with a "Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Crossover Star of Achievement" trophy?

The "Jersey Shore" gang heads back to their spiritual home of Seaside Heights on the fifth season, which premieres Thursday (January 5) at 10 p.m. ET. And from the sound of things, that triumphant return couldn't have come quickly enough. After a drama-filled Italian holiday, the "Shore" stars were looking forward to getting back to the boardwalk.

"We're hitting the boardwalk hard and [there's] just overall excitement," JWoww told MTV News. "[There was] the anticipation and the anxiety of just being home, because we were away from our family and friends for so long. It's a little overwhelming."

Those same sentiments were echoed by the guys of the "Shore" earlier this week, when they told MTV News that the in-house tensions that plagued the cast during season four — infighting, headbutting, ill-fated hookups and vehicular mishaps — had all but disappeared by the time they hit Seaside (thanks to the availability of good barbers and "easy women").

The girls were especially happy to bid arrivederci to Italy. And let's just say they hit the ground running.

"I think in Italy it was all drama because we missed home and obviously some people were stirring up unnecessary fake rumors in the house," Snooki sighed. "So when we get back to Jersey, you're gonna see that pan out more. But altogether I think we just couldn't wait to get home and we went crazy."

Are you excited for the fifth season of "Jersey Shore"? Share your thoughts in the comments!

The fifth season of "Jersey Shore" premieres Thursday, January 5, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. For continuing "Shore" coverage, be sure to check in with MTV's Remote Control blog.

Chris Brown Won't Be Doing Interviews In 2012

'If people are going to judge anything, judge him for his talent,' manager tells Billboard of crafting strategy for the pop&B star.

There'll be no chair-throwing in 2012. After a year in which Chris Brown's applause-worthy feats — Billboard 200 chart-topper F.A.M.E. and a successful tour of the same name — at times threatened to be overshadowed by his penchant for (social) media gaffes, the singer's team has announced they're implementing a ban on interviews.

Asked whether there was a specific strategy planned for Brown in the New Year, the 22-year-old's manager, Tina Davis, told Billboard magazine it was to "not have him do interviews but to concentrate on performing and recording," adding that the idea had been germinating for some time.

Last May, Breezy made headlines after a "Good Morning America" interview, when he vented frustration over a line of questioning that zeroed in on ex Rihanna by hurling a chair through a backstage window afterward. The wave of bad press that ensued hit just as the Virginia-born crooner was making the rounds to promote his fourth studio effort, F.A.M.E. Now, as he preps the follow-up to that disc, Fortune, Davis seems determined to steer clear of any possible speed bumps.

"We're not trying to be rude, selfish or disrespectful to anyone in any way," she told the mag. "If people are going to judge anything, judge him for his talent. He signed up to sing and entertain. Not to talk about his personal life."

Brown may be taking a cue from another superstar, Kanye West, whose self-imposed press-lockout has yielded some impressively expansive Twitter sprees. But it remains to be seen whether the singer will take to the social-networking site as an outlet in similar fashion.

On New Year's Eve, the "Look at Me Now" singer sent a heartfelt message to his fan faithful: "I LOVE Team Breezy unconditionally! Goodbye 2011. Let 2012 bring as much peace positivity and happiness as possible!" he wrote in a hopeful, if wistful, post. He hasn't tweeted since.

What do you think of C.Breezy giving the press the cold shoulder this year? Sound off on our Facebook page or in the comments below.

'Them two are rap greats and for them two to actually want to do a project with me, it's unbelievable,' Pill tells 'RapFix Live.'

Pill's situation with Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group may not have worked out, but the Atlanta spitter has his eyes set on a collaborative project with Killer Mike and OutKast's Big Boi.

"We working, we thinking about dropping a tape, honestly 'cause me and Big and all us we done did records already," Pill told "RapFix Live." "We thinking about droppin' a tape and then droppin' an album."

In February 2011, Killer Mike revealed that he, Big Boi and Pill were forming a group, which is still unnamed. There isn't much in the way of details, but Pill insists that the trio is putting something together.

"We already workin', we getting' it in. It's a full-time grind," he said. "Them two are rap greats and for them two to actually want to do a project with me, it's unbelievable."

The "Trap Goin' Ham" rapper made headlines earlier this week when he revealed to MTV News that despite his close affiliation with Rozay's MMG label and appearing on his Self Made compilation, Pill was never technically signed to Maybach. The MC, who charges that MMG's parent label, Warner Music Group (to which he is currently signed), never gave him a fair push on radio or TV. He is now looking to be released from Warner.

Still, Pill is far from being in the dumps. In the coming weeks, Pillionaire plans to drop his solo mixtape The Epidemic and then, of course, is the project with Killer Mike and Big Boi, which he is excited about. While Pill does acknowledge Mike's and Big's respective greatness, he makes it clear that he is no slouch on the mic.

"For other people to try to think that I'm not lyrical enough or I'm not as good a rapper — you got guys that everybody looks up to as rappers doin' a project with me," he said. "So you know I'm just ready for that sh-- to actually take off so we can show people what hip-hop look like in the flesh."

Are you looking forward to Pill's group album with Big Boi and Killer Mike? Let us know in the comments.

'Star Trek 2' Has Benedict Cumberbatch 'Over The Moon'

'I'm hugely, hugely excited,' actor says of his villainous role in the sequel.
By Kara Warner

With the Internets still atwitter over Benedict Cumberbatch's casting in the "Star Trek" sequel, the man himself gushed about the news at a press event Thursday (January 5).

The "War Horse" and "Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy" star addressed reporters via satellite during the Television Critics Association press tour for his hit TV show "Sherlock." When asked about the casting news, who he'll play and how he feels about being chosen for the role, Cumberbatch was expectedly vague.

"There's a lawyer standing here saying that I can't say anything," he joked. "I'm hugely, hugely excited and I'm very, very flattered. I'm very, very excited, but obviously I'm not here to talk about that. I will, in the future, I'm sure. I'm just getting my head around the fact that it's happened. If you'll forgive me, I'll pass on that. But my headline is that I'm over the moon."

Cumberbatch will take on an unknown villainous role in the sequel, for which director J.J. Abrams reportedly pursued Benicio Del Toro and later Édgar Ramirez. Although Abrams has refused to comment on exactly what villain will be in "Trek 2," plenty of speculators remain convinced that the British actor will portray the genetically engineered superhuman Khan, originally played and made famous by Ricardo Montalbán in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan."

In addition to his role in the highly anticipated sequel, look out for plenty more Cumberbatch this year and next, via his two key roles in Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit," doing the voice and motion capture for Smaug and likely both for the Necromancer.

"It's very flattering," Cumberbatch said at the TCA event of his recent rise to stardom and public recognition. "It's very important to remember that whatever scale you're working at, or your work is being received, or approved of, it is a job. You have to do your job well, so you can't get carried away by too much of it."

Check out everything we've got on "Star Trek 2."

Adele Helps Push Music Biz To First Sales Jump Since 2004

Music sales posted a 3 percent sales increase last year, thanks in no small part to 21.
By James Montgomery

Call it the Adele Effect: Music sales actually rose in 2011, the first time the industry has posted a gain in seven years.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, overall sales were up a modest 3 percent last year, as consumers purchased some 458 million albums — digital downloads of albums rose 20 percent, to 103 million, while sales of compact discs sank nearly 6 percent, to 225 million — and downloaded more than 1.2 billion singles, a 9 percent increase from the previous year. It's all a welcome change of pace for the music industry, which in recent years has been battered by double-digit declines in sales.

And, while there are certainly mitigating factors that contributed to the sales gains — the RIAA's ongoing antipiracy efforts, an increase of consumers with mobile devices, the rise of services like Spotify and Google Music — it certainly didn't hurt that Adele released one of the biggest-selling albums in recent memory last year, not to mention a pair of much-downloaded singles. Her 21 album sold more than 5.8 million copies in 2011 — the most of any album since Usher's Confessions in 2004 (which, incidentally, marks the last year the industry saw increases in total sales) — and her massive "Rolling in the Deep" has also sold some 5.8 million copies. She sold nearly 900,000 copies of her debut album, 19, last year, too.

Big sellers like Lady Gaga's Born This Way and Michael Bublé's Christmas also helped bolster sales. And while it remains to be seen if this jump was just an aberration, you're not going to hear anyone in the music biz complaining. Let's hope Adele will release a new album this year, too.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel might not be speaking up about their alleged engagement, but that doesn't mean Timberlake's grandma can't weigh in!

Sadie Bomar confirmed the news to Gossip Cop, saying, "He called me on Christmas Day and told me he's engaged." She added that her superstar grandson gave her strict orders to keep quiet "until after the holidays."

Bomar added that she's "so happy" for the couple and that Biel has her thumbs-up. "The family loves Jessie," she said. "She's a very sweet girl."

Despite earlier reports that the two had gotten engaged in Wyoming, Bomar said they were actually in Montana at the time. Sources told People magazine that the twosome were in Big Sky Country vacationing when he asked her to marry him with a "custom-designed" ring.

Bomar has been making the media rounds since the news broke Wednesday. She also confirmed the engagement to "The Wendy Williams Show," saying "she's very excited for them."

Timberlake and Biel began dating in 2007 and broke up briefly in 2011 before getting back together later that year. In 2011, Timberlake opened up a bit about his feelings for Biel to Vanity Fair. "She is the single-handedly most significant person in my life. In my 30 years, she is the most special person, OK?" he said. "I don't want to say much more, because I have to protect things that are dear to me — for instance, her."

When asked about having to deal with all the attention the pair have received over the years, Biel told Vogue, "I don't want to talk about it. I don't feel the need to clear anything up. It's the most precious thing that I have in my life, and I care about it so much that I don't care about what anyone says or thinks. I have just not addressed it in any real way, and I'm not going to. It's mine. And I really like that about it."

Mac Miller Shows His 'Soul' In New Video

After fun videos like 'Frick Park Market' and 'Party on Fifth Ave.,' Miller gets serious in 'Of the Soul.'
By Rob Markman

After partying on Fifth Ave., Mac Miller decided to slow things down for the fourth video from his #1 debut, Blue Slide Park.

With the Ian Wolfson-directed "Of the Soul" clip, Miller simplifies his visual, electing to shoot against a brick wall with BSP-themed art painted on it.

In previous Blue Slide videos like "Frick Park Market," "Smile Back" and "Party on Fifth Ave.," the Pittsburgh rap breakout dressed up in costume, put his acting skills on display and danced, but in his latest, he just sort of stands there — and raps. It's all fitting, of course, when you consider the mellowed-out sound bed that production team I.D. Labs laid on "Of the Soul."

It was early Thursday morning (January 5) when Mac tweeted the YouTube link for the video, which has clocked in more than 65,000 views in about 16 hours. "Don't even know what's in my head anymore, though," the 19-year-old MC starts off spitting, looking into the camera wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.

There isn't much to it — just Mac, a couple of outfit changes and three dancing beauties who blend a bit of ballet with hip-hop steps. The simplicity only enhances Miller's bars, which ultimately deal with his growth from a regular kid to rap's newest phenom. "Some expect me to be the greatest ever/ Hear me on the radio, sh-- will change forever/ Now I'm just a pop sensation, f--- ya expectations/ I'mma be the best, have some patience/ You thought that it was great then poof/ It was nothin' but some déjà vu," Mac raps to close the somber song.

It may not be Miller's most exciting video, but it may be his most honest.

Nickelback Laugh Off Potential Black Keys Beef

'Thanks to the drummer in the Black Keys [for] calling us the biggest band in the world,' Nickelback tweet.
By James Montgomery

As they proved in their "Funny or Die" spoof of that whole Detroit Lions/Thanksgiving fiasco, Nickelback are not exactly adverse to poking fun at themselves. So it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that they've chosen to respond to Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney's recent digs with a laugh.

In the new issue of Rolling Stone, the Keys kitsman called Chad Kroeger and company "watered-down, post-grunge crap," adding that "rock and roll is dying because people became OK with Nickelback being the biggest band in the world." On Thursday, the Canadian quartet took to their Twitter account to deflect Carney's criticisms, focusing less on the negative and more on the fact that, well, he did refer to their overall hugeness.

"Thanks to the drummer in the Black Keys [for] calling us the biggest band in the world in Rolling Stone," the band wrote, before adding a very snide "Hehe."

That seems to be the extent of the 'Back's response to Carney, who last year rankled Lady Gaga's fanbase when he compared the Mother Monster to Madonna on his Twitter account. A spokesperson for Nickelback did not respond to MTV News' request for comment on the matter, but we're pretty sure Carney saw their retort, as he's since retweeted it to his 46,000 followers. And just like that, the first great rock feud of 2012 seems to have reached its inevitable conclusion. Don't fret though, there's still some 360 days left in the year. We're sure someone will rise to the occasion.

Did Nickelback respond appropriately to Patrick Carney's comments? Sound off below!

Kanye West In Talks To Join 'Jetsons' Movie, Producer Confirms

After 'Ye mentioned his possible involvement in the film, Denise Di Novi tells MTV News about a 'fun brainstorming conversation' with the MC.

In what would easily be the coolest movie news of 2012, Kanye West dropped word in the midst of a scorching series of Twitter updates that he was in discussions to join up with a long-gestating adaptation of "The Jetsons."

"I was just discussing becoming the creative director for the Jetson movie," he wrote.

Could it be true? The live-action adaptation of the futuristic Hanna-Barbera cartoon — starring George Jetson, his boy Elroy, daughter Judy, Jane his wife, plus their robot maid Rosie — has been in development for years, with Robert Rodriguez attached to direct at one point. MTV News put in a call to producer Denise Di Novi, who confirmed that talks with 'Ye had indeed taken place.

"Kanye's always been a Jetsons fan, I think because he's so into design and he loves the design aspects," she told us exclusively. "So we had a fun brainstorming conversation."

The call took place after West touched base with producers and told them he was interested in working on the project. "We heard that he knew we were working on the Jetsons," Di Novi said. "He reached out and said he's a huge Jetsons fan. There are a lot of Jetsons fanatics out there, especially people that are into either futuristic science or design. He was interested in creatively brainstorming what we were doing with the movie and what ideas he might have. It was a really friendly, preliminary conversation."

At this point, though, Di Novi is unsure if Kanye will actually sign on to become creative director of "The Jetsons." "He was going to think about it more and see if he got inspired visually," she said. "He's a very visual artist."

Kanye did mention in his Twitter spree that he was annoyed about one suggestion that arose during the conversation. "Someone on the call yelled out.. you should do a Jetsons tour!" he wrote. "This just happened a few hours ago. I was very insulted of course because for anyone that's seen the Watch the Throne Tour...Or Coachella or Glow in the Dark or Runaway.. you know I have real ideas."

Di Novi, however, said the tour comment was nothing more than a good-natured joke, especially because her production company is involved solely in the movie business. "We were just kind of joking about that," said Di Nova, whose credits include "Crazy, Stupid, Love" and many Tim Burton films. "I don't know if he would want to do that, but it was just a fun comment."

'Akira' Movie Shut Down To Reassess Budget

Kristen Stewart is reportedly in talks to star alongside Garrett Hedlund in the manga adaptation.

Though "Akira" has had significant developments in recent months — including potentially adding Kristen Stewart to the cast — Warner Bros. has shut down production on the live-action adaptation of the classic anime and manga.

For years, "Akira" had been an on-again, off-again production, with the likes of Keanu Reeves and Albert Hughes involved at one point. But the most recent attempt at the film — with "Unknown" director Jaume Collet-Serra and "Harry Potter" screenwriter Steve Kloves retouching the script — made the most progress on the property to date, getting as far as casting Garrett Hedlund as Kaneda, the lead.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the story of the shutdown, citing a source close to the production. According to the report, Warner Bros. closed the Vancouver production offices in order to reassess the budget, which the studio feared was too high. Over the next two weeks, producers will meet with Collet-Serra to work on the script with an eye on reducing costs. Insiders claim that Warner Bros. is looking to reduce the $90 million budget to the realm of $60 million or $70 million.

The proposed $90 million was already half of what it was for Hughes' production. Lowering the budget to that level was one of the accomplishments under Collet-Serra's version of the film, along with casting Hedlund in the lead and eyeing high-profile stars for the supporting roles.

Kristen Stewart, Ken Watanabe and Helena Bonham-Carter were three of the stars in various stages of negotiations to join the film. The "Twilight" star had reportedly been offered the female lead as Kei, while Watanabe stepped up for the Colonel after Gary Oldman turned down the role.

Sources close to the production tell THR that despite the setback, "Akira" is far from dead, saying, "It's a very resilient movie. Warner Bros. just won't let it die."

Three times might be the charm for Drew Barrymore. The actress is engaged to art consultant boyfriend Will Kopelman.

Sources tell People magazine that the couple got engaged in Sun Valley, Idaho, where they had been vacationing over the holiday. The source added, "They are very happy together." Kopelman reportedly asked the actress to marry him with a colorless, radiant-cut diamond ring designed by Graff.

The newly engaged couple, who began dating last February, spent 10 days in the area and were spotted by locals at various restaurants, including Vintage and Kiki's Café. As they near their one-year anniversary, Barrymore and Kopelman had planned to get engaged around this time, sources told Us Weekly.

The source says Barrymore has been "yearning to get married and have kids," adding, "He's madly in love and knows she's 'The One.' "

Barrymore was previously married to MTV personality Tom Green, and she had a monthlong union with Jeremy Thomas. The actress has also been linked to Justin Long and Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti in the past.

In the September 2010 issue of Marie Claire, Barrymore opened up about her philosophies on love. "I'm happy to say that, at 35 years old, I feel I know less than ever," she said. "But in a liberating way. I'm trying to figure out how to make relationships work. The only thing I know is that there aren't any rules. There should be no infrastructure on how a couple is supposed to work. Life isn't like that."

In the same issue, she defined what she thinks true love is. "It smells good — like somebody's skin," she said. "It's amazing to me that, when you fall in love with someone, you just start to love the way they smell. If I have to go away from someone, I say, 'Wear this T-shirt for five days in a row, then I'm going to take it with me.' "

Lady Gaga and Beyoncé are besties, and when the Mother Monster sat down with "The Insider," she gushed about her pal's skills as a soon-to-be mommy.

"Of course she is [going to be a good mom]. That's a tremendous understatement," the singer said. "She's the nicest female I've met in the industry. She's wonderful!"

The two have quite the history together. Gaga and Beyoncé have appeared on two tracks (and in two videos) together for "Telephone" and "Video Phone." And while Beyoncé is nearing motherhood, Gaga admits she wants to wait a bit longer before giving birth to anything — but new music, that is. "Someday. Long, long day from now!" she said. "My next baby will be my new record."

When MTV News caught up with Gaga last month, she opened up about her plans to release the follow-up to Born This Way. "I've started writing it and I have the name for it and all the concepts are beginning to flourish and take place," she told MTV News.

But much like Beyoncé and her baby, a due date for the Mother Monster's next album is still to be determined. "I'm excited to put it out, but it's not done yet. So I'll put it out when it's done."

Meanwhile, one psychic who spoke to MTV News helped us try to nail down just when we should expect Jayoncé's baby. "I feel that Beyoncé's 2012 is going to be very, very exciting," Jesse Bravo told MTV News. "I get the date of January 8 to January 14 of her giving birth to her first son."

When do you think Jayoncé's baby will come? Make your predictions in the comments!

'The Hunger Games' In 2012: Our Five Forecasts

Posted: 04 Jan 2012 11:29 PM PST

From the film's premiere to casting 'Catching Fire,' Hobnobbing takes a look at what to look forward to this year.
By Amy Wilkinson

The past year boasted a cornucopia of "Hunger Games" highlights for fans to chew on, from the casting of Jennifer Lawrence as gritty heroine Katniss Everdeen to the first full-length trailer to the recent debut of Taylor Swift's soundtrack song "Safe and Sound." But as bountiful as 2011's harvest was, 2012 will offer a bumper crop of news from the big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins' dystopian tome as it finally hits theaters March 23.

Though our calls to Greasy Sae's Psychic Hotline have gone unanswered, we have a few educated guesses about what the new year holds for Panem's people. Read on for our five forecasts:

1. One more trailer
With just about two and a half months to go until the first film's debut, we'd bet a silver parachute that fans will get to feast on one more look at Katniss, Peeta and Gale before the tributes enter the arena. What another clip would include, well, we're less sure about that, but we wouldn't mind a closer look at life in District 12 or a more detailed glimpse at the other 22 tributes.

2. A full soundtrack announcement
Swift, the Civil Wars, the Decemberists and Arcade Fire's husband/wife duo of Win Butler and Regine Chassagne have all been secured for the T-Bone Burnett-produced soundtrack, but we suspect a few more artists will enter the fray before all is said and sung. I've already made my plea for Florence and the Machine, while NextMovie suggested acts like Snow Patrol and Regina Spektor for the much-anticipated album. We'll keep our ears to the ground for this one.

3. The film's premiere
Unless the apocalypse comes early, March 23 will be a blessed day for "Hunger Games" acolytes, as the flick will finally blaze into theaters. We expect more than a few faithful to camp out at their local cineplex for a midnight showing. And we're more than ready to drool over whatever confections Lawrence wears on the red carpet during the movie's premieres and publicity circuit.

4. Casting "Catching Fire"
With the second "Hunger Games" installment already slated for a November 22, 2013, release (and an Oscar-winning writer being eyed for the script), we expect the follow-up to begin shooting in mid- to late 2012 — which means a whole new slew of casting calls! Where are you Finnick, Johanna, Beetee and Mags?

5. First look at "Catching Fire"
Asking for a celluloid sneak would be a stretch, but we don't think it's completely inconceivable to think a first snapshot might find its way to the Web by the final days of 2012. Here's hoping the "Catching Fire" director (whomever he/she will be) isn't afraid to take a cue from "Breaking Dawn" helmer Bill Condon, who released the first photographic teaser for the final "Twilight" installments over Thanksgiving in 2010. Happy holidays, "Hunger Games" fans?

Kanye West: The Anatomy Of A Twitter Spree

Have trouble connecting the dots on Kanye's string of tweets? MTV News breaks it down.
By Rob Markman

Kanye West has never had a shortage of ideas, and on Wednesday night into Thursday morning (January 5), the rap star spoke — or, rather, wrote — his mind on Twitter in a 91-message manifesto.

'Ye, who is currently in London, went off on a gang of topics, including his women's fashion line, the Grammys, his design dreams for the MTV Video Music Awards and the vision for his new 22-division company, DONDA. Unorganized but informative, Yeezy put the string of tweets into context on his 39th post, writing: "This is just a train of thought .. but figure it's better to read than trained thoughts."

If you had trouble following 'Ye's 24-hour stream of creative consciousness, don't worry — MTV News has you covered with this breakdown:

Wednesday, 1 p.m.
A gracious Yeezy takes to Twitter to thank everyone for supporting his women's fashion line, which he unveiled in Paris back in October. Two hours later, 'Ye corrects reports that the line is called DW.

Key Tweet: "The name of the line is Kanye West not DW... The Dw was a design element placed on the invite in homage to my mom : )"

Wednesday, 7 p.m.
With plenty of time lapses between tweets, no one could have guessed what West had in store in the hours to come. He clearly started off slow, quoting Da Vinci for his fourth tweet of the day.

Key Tweet: " 'Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.' - Leonardo Da Vinci"

Wednesday, 9 p.m.
This just in: Kanye West is without representation after Cara Lewis got her Jerry Maguire on.

Key Tweet: "More clarity... I have no agency representing me currently... William Morris was fired after Cara lewis quit. I love Cara Lewis : )"

Wednesday, 11 p.m.
West picks up the action. Inspired by his fashion workspace, Yeezy talks about how challenging and fun it is to work on clothing designs. It's been an eight-year journey for the Louis Vuitton Don, who turned down offers to do an urban clothing line in favor of something more upscale. How are his fashion endeavors funded, you ask? All the Kanye concert tickets you've bought, of course.

Key Tweet: "I did the first fashion show out of my own pocket and used the money I made touring to follow my passion."

Wednesday, midnight
'Ye goes on a tear during the midnight hour, sending a whopping 48 tweets. It was approximately 5 a.m. in London, and Kanye couldn't sleep because his dreams kept him "woke." And what dreams he has. The rapper recounts his days hopping from Japan to Rome to Paris, interning at Fendi, working with Louis Vuitton, being courted by Versace and designing his Air Yeezys for Nike. What, you thought West was a newbie to the fashion game? No, he learned how to design shoes at the Giuseppe Zanotti factory and broke bread with fashion luminaries like Azzedine Alaïa. Things weren't all good, though. The Chicago MC/producer admits that the language barrier in Paris hindered him some.

West rattles on, reminiscing about the times he spent fur shopping with his mother, Donda West, who died in 2007. Kanye then reveals that he was in talks to become a creative director for a possible "Jetsons" Movie. (West ..."Heartless" video.) West showcased art inspired by the iconic animated series in his 2008 "Heartless" video.

Of course, no Yeezy rant would be complete without some type of Grammy commentary, and this time, the outspoken rapper noted that he appreciated all his 2012 nominations.

The biggest news of the night came when Kanye announced that he had started a 22-division design company called DONDA. He hopes DONDA will group free thinkers and various professionals in a creative space to help simplify and improve the human experience. The company's mission: "To marry our wants and needs," West writes.

Key Tweet: "DONDA will be comprised of over 22 divisions with a goal to make products and experiences that people want and can afford..."

Thursday, 1 a.m.
Continuing to detail his DONDA experience, 'Ye says the Watch the Throne Tour, with its stunning visual cubes, was just a small part of what the company can do. He aims to one day present seven screens onstage. He's taking 10 steps at a time, he said, with plans to design for the 2016 Olympics and the MTV Video Music Awards — imagine that!

Before ending his day of Twitter enlightenment, a compassionate 'Ye turns his attention toward education, writing that he and "Otis" video director and noted filmmaker Spike Jonze want to create a summer school that experiments with new curriculums for children. Why can't kids use iPhones while taking tests? Yeezy wonders.

He hasn't bought a chain or a car in two years, Kanye writes. Instead, he reinvests his dollars into creativity and his grand scheme to change the world for the better.

Key Tweet: "We need to take what Michael Jackson felt and [Alexander] Mcqueen and Steve Jobs and we need make things better..."

Pop star also donates $100,000 to Las Vegas elementary school with help of 'Ellen' show.

Justin Bieber was enlisted by Ellen DeGeneres to help give back to Whitney Elementary, a Las Vegas school that helps underprivileged children. And in addition to donating $100,000 and $100,000 worth of toys, the always-charitable singer performed for the room full of Beliebers.

Bieber even answered some burning questions about his hair, his favorite color and his rise to fame. But, perhaps it was his response about his lady love, Selena Gomez, that had the room most giggly.

"What do me and Selena do on the weekends?" he pondered to the room full of school kids. "We go to the movies. And we kiss," he whispered, later laughing, "No, we don't do that." He answered a number of other of the kids' inquiries in a rather quick-fire round. "Do I miss home? Yes, very much," he said. "Cause I'm always traveling and I'm always away from a lot of my family and friends. So, it can be hard. But, once I get to go home and see my family, it's always a pleasure." Before leaving, he had these words of wisdom for the kids: "Be nice to each other and treat each other with respect and grow up to be people of character."

The episode aired Wednesday and when he chatted with the school's principal, Sherrie Gahn, he opened up about his own struggles growing up in Canada. "I'm here to bring a smile to these kids' faces. For me, I grew up and I didn't have a lot. We went to food banks to get food for me and my grandparents. Really, if I didn't have my grandparents to help me and these kids they have you to help them," he said. "And it's really special."

Kim Kardashian Barbie Doll On The Way?

Sisters Kim, Khloé and Kourtney are set to be immortalized in a series of limited-edition dolls, reportedly due this year.

It was probably inevitable, given that their empire currently includes everything from Twitter-themed nail polishes to televised marriages, but now it appears that the Kardashians are set to make the final push in their bid for pop-culture supremacy: becoming Barbie dolls.

Yes, according to Us Weekly, Kim, Khloé and Kourtney are set to be immortalized as Barbie's pals in a "limited-edition" series of dolls. Us also cites a source who says that the dolls "will reflect the girls' measurements and may even come in Kardashian-designed outfits."

Kim seemed to hint that a team-up with the folks at Mattel — the brand behind the iconic doll — was in the works during Christmas, when she took to her Twitter account to post a series of messages to Barbie's "totally official and completely fabulous" account.

In one tweet, she sent "Barbs" holiday well-wishes and asked what her longtime beau Ken got her for Christmas.

In another, Kardashian teased to the doll that "I'm sure we will be seeing lots of each other" in 2012.

E! News then reported that the Kardashian Barbies are in the works and should be available later this year. They added that the limited-edition dolls are unofficially being referred to as "Dash dolls," since they'll be outfitted in fashions that can be purchased at the Kardashian's Dash boutiques (of course).

There's yet to be any sort of official confirmation from Mattel about the Kardashian dolls. When reached by MTV News, a spokesperson for the toy manufacturer would only respond that "we do not comment on product rumors."

What do you think of the Kardashians getting their own Barbie dolls? Tell us on our Facebook page or in the comments below!
