Brad Pitt and 'The Artist' star Jean Dujardin are our picks for Drama and Comedy prizes.

We only have a couple of days until the madness of Sunday's Golden Globes is upon us and we (hopefully) get unpredictable acceptance speeches, winners and wardrobe choices. Until that big day, we can only make predictions as to who will take home the coveted trophies.

Here are our thoughts on the categories of Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical.

Best Actor - Drama
This category pits a pair of attractive, buzz-worthy superstars-in-the-making against three classically handsome and universally beloved leading men. Because these awards are handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press, which is a small group of seasoned international journalists, they tend to award old favorites versus new blood.

Who Will Win: Brad Pitt for "Moneyball," not only because he is a critical and collective favorite, but because he hasn't attended the show or been nominated since 2009 for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."

Who Should Win: Pitt or George Clooney for "The Descendants." Ryan Gosling ("The Ides of March") and Michael Fassbender ("Shame") definitely deserve to win at some point, and they will — just not this year. Leonardo DiCaprio is also in the mix for "J. Edgar."

Best Actor - Comedy or Musical
One thing we appreciate most about the Globes is the recognition of films in the Comedy or Musical genre; too often these types of films get overlooked by other awards shows when they deserve as much attention as the dramatic pieces. And while the nominated performances in the category this year cannot be categorized as full-on comedies or musicals, they are decidedly lighter films, with dramatic elements woven in. An eclectic bunch, to say the least.

Who Will Win: Jean Dujardin for "The Artist." Remember this is the Hollywood Foreign Press we're talking about, and "The Artist" is a wonderfully well-received foreign film. In black-and-white. With no dialogue. It is artsy cinematic goodness, the HFPA's favorite. Dujardin is a slam-dunk.

Who Should Win: Dujardin, followed very, very closely by Joseph Gordon-Levitt for his wonderful warm and moving portrayal of a young cancer survivor in "50/50." Similar to what was mentioned about Gosling and Fassbender in the Drama categories, Gordon-Levitt definitely has a Globe win in his future.

Drake And The Weeknd Work Like 'Family'

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 03:53 AM PST

Producer 40 says Drake's 'Crew Love' was 'an important record for him to make, and the Weeknd was someone that he wanted to include on that.'

To his fans, the Weeknd is quite mysterious. Though the Toronto singer/songwriter stayed plenty busy putting out three free albums online last year, he has shied away from the spotlight, making very few public appearances and doing only a small number of interviews.

While he remains an enigma to fans, to Drake, Noah "40" Shebib and the entire October's Very Own team, the Weeknd (real name: Abel Tesfaye) is family.

"Weeknd is obviously someone very close to us and our family. He's from Toronto and someone we've been associated with and working with for quite some time," Shebib told MTV News when we visited Toronto in December. "So that's close to home, that's easy. He's in and out of the studio whatever the case is — that's family."

Weeknd released his first album House of Balloons in March, then its follow-up Thursday in August and then completed the trilogy with Echoes of Silence in December. His music has no doubt caused a stir, and he was most recently tapped to perform at the upcoming Coachella music festival. Two key appearances on Drake's Take Care also did a lot to raise the Weeknd's musical profile. His soulful wails drive Drizzy's pulsating hometown dedication "Crew Love." Even to the unfamiliar, it's impossible not to notice Tesfaye's key contribution.

" 'Crew Love' was just a moment for Drake, as far as the content of the record and what was going on around him in his life and his people and his team and how much he cares for them," 40 explained. "That was just an important record for him to make, and the Weeknd was someone that he wanted to include on that, and that made sense."

On "The Ride," the Weeknd contributes in a different way, blending his vocals into the background of the track while Drake raps throughout. It's almost as if the emerging vocalist is an instrument, rather than a guest on the track. " 'The Ride' was really just a vibe, it was a vibe that the Weeknd caught, and it was just so crazy that Drake wanted to rap on it," Shebib said. "On 'The Ride,' he's definitely an instrument, and he's singing all through Drake's vocals."

It is all a great introduction for an artist with a ton of potential, but as for what the Weeknd has planned next, no one really knows. "He's not interested in playing the game right now," Shebib said. "He wants to put out his music, and I think when he's finished putting out his music, he'll reassess his feelings on the game."

After our interview with 40, the Weeknd released the third mixtape in his trilogy (Echoes of Silence), and now we wait to see what's next.

Teresa Palmer Is One To Watch In 2012

We're keeping an eye on Teresa's three upcoming projects: 'Wish You Were Here,' 'AWOL' and 'Warm Bodies.'

Amazingly enough, our week of Ones to Watch in 2012 profiles is coming to an end. Over the past few days, we've highlighted a few of the stars who we feel will make the biggest impact in Hollywood this year. They are the rising stars of action, drama and blockbusters, who have the potential to be future award winners.

The latest One to Watch is Aussie-born beauty Teresa Palmer, who fits into all of those categories and has not one, but three movies in which audiences can see her this year: the Australian indie and official Sundance Film Festival selection "Wish You Were Here" opposite Joel Edgerton, '60s-set war drama "AWOL" with fellow Aussie and One to Watch Liam Hemsworth and "Warm Bodies," a zombie romance based on Isaac Marion's acclaimed novel.

MTV News was lucky enough to catch up with Palmer recently to talk about her expectations for the year and what she loves most about her upcoming films, as well as the status on Six and that "I Am Number Four" sequel.

MTV News: With the new year just getting started, do you have any specific goals or expectations for yourself?

Teresa Palmer: Every year, I write a very elaborate journal, which I find to be very therapeutic and such a nice tool to have. This year, my New Year's resolutions and goals, I had eight pages worth of stuff. Mainly it was goals that I've set for myself, and I know it's going to be a busy year. I'm sure it's going to be full of peaks and valleys, but I tend to do that every year and stick to what those goals are.

MTV : We've seen you in plenty of films before this year, but how is 2012 different from other years?

Palmer: This is the first time I've had three films come out in a year. I'm really excited because I've balanced between doing a big studio film, which I've been doing a lot in the last few years, with a cool independent. I have a cool independent film coming out called "Wish You Were Here" with Joel Edgerton and it's Australian, which is super exciting for me because I haven't been back to Australia to work in a few years. And then of course I have "Warm Bodies" coming out in August and then I have a period piece which is a much smaller movie again, set in the 1960s around the Vietnam war, called "AWOL," and that's with Liam Hemsworth. They're just very different characters. I couldn't really draw any similarities between the three girls that I play, and that's certainly a draw card for me when I select the project. It's just exciting, the diversity in the roles this year. It's great.

MTV: We've been following "Warm Bodies" for a while now. It's a very different film from what people think. How do you describe it?

Palmer: "Warm Bodies" is a truly unique zombie film. Yes, it has those elements of a zombie movie, and for those who embrace that genre, they're not going to be disappointed because we have a lot of those typical action sequences in zombie films, but really, at the heart of the story is this relationship between R and Julie, and it's unlike anything I think you've seen on film before. It's so sweet, and there's a lot humor. It really is, believe it or not, grounded in a reality. I think people can absolutely relate to R, who plays our lovable zombie. He's an outsider, and it's very much an "Edward Scissorhands"-type story and it's really beautiful how this romance blossoms. It was such a strong script and truly very special, and that's what drew me to the project in the first place. It's just exceeded my expectations throughout filming, and the little of what I've seen I'm really excited about, I think more so than any other film I've been in, which is a great step for me. And I get to see a lot more when we start doing [audio] in a few weeks.

MTV: How would you describe the look of the film?

Palmer: It's a dark, bleak world. There are 400 humans left in society, so it's very much that postapocalyptic world. Empty streets, a huge deserted airport, which always makes for an interesting backdrop. There's a lot of beauty, though, and it surrounds. I think another character in the film really is the music; it's celebrated in our movie. It's just a very eclectic film in the way that we have eccentric pieces and really interesting graffiti that maybe not everyone will notice, but so much effort was put into the look of the film, the backdrops and sets and just the feel of it, that I think it's going to be really interesting on film. We have the production designer who did "Super 8," among a bunch of other films, and it is really epic.

MTV: Is there room for a sequel, or do you feel it's a standalone film?

Palmer: I would love, love to go back and play Julie. I certainly already miss R, and I said to [director] Jonathan Levine just recently "I miss them both so much." I miss R's sweetness and how beautiful he is to Julie and how much he takes care of her. He's struggling so much with being bottled up in a zombie, he doesn't like his existence in that way, and we sort of help each other to grow. I love that. I would be so excited to do another film. At the moment, it lends itself to the one film, but we all sat around drawing up possible ideas in the air, and Isaac Marion was on set with us, and he said he has a couple of ideas. If anything, there might be a prequel, but right now, it's a standalone film. I guess it just depends.

MTV: Have you had any more discussion on the character of Six and a sequel to "I Am Number Four"?

Palmer: I have been poking around asking about that a little bit. I think of all the films I've done so far, that's the character who is most celebrated to me. I meet people who come up to me on the street and say all my lines from "I Am Number Four" and they really loved Six, which is exciting. I've been asked that question a lot recently; I really don't know. I think at the moment, there are no plans to make a sequel, which is a bummer, but you never know. It really depends on how all those sales go, the DVDs and those numbers. It's a money game, I guess, so we will see, but I would love to play her again.

What are you waiting for? Your must-see movie needs your support. It's time to show character, poise and heart. Vote for your picks now at MTV Movie Brawl 2012!

Critics' Choice Movie Awards Celebrate 'The Help'

'The Artist,' George Clooney and Martin Scorsese among the other big winners at the show.

Donald Glover wagged his tongue at Charlize Theron, George Clooney talked Naugahyde leisure suits, Patton Oswalt drank scotch, and a pair of Muppets chimed in via satellite as "The Help" and "The Artist" cleaned up at the 2012 Critics' Choice Movie Awards.

Funnymen hosts Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer jokingly called it "the ninth most exciting night in Hollywood," but while it may not be as prestigious as the Academy Awards, the Critics' Choice Awards are traditionally the strongest indicator of who will get Oscars. All four winners from the major acting categories last year — Colin Firth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale and Melissa Leo — later won Oscars.

"The Artist" won Best Picture and earned Best Director for Michel Hazanavicius, who noted, "There are so many beautiful people here, I have to force myself not to ask [for] autographs." And he wasn't kidding. The beautiful people on-hand included Clooney, Theron, Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kirsten Dunst, Michelle Williams and countless more stars from the screen and behind-the-scenes.

Broadcast live on VH1 from the Hollywood Palladium, the Critics' Choice Awards included three wins for "The Help": Best Actress (Viola Davis), Best Supporting Actress (Octavia Spencer) and Best Acting Ensemble. Clooney won Best Actor for his role in "The Descendants." The awards are voted on by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, made up of more than 250 television, radio and Web critics.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Olivia Harrison, widow of late Beatles guitarist George Harrison, presented the Music + Film Award to DiCaprio's longtime collaborator, filmmaker Martin Scorsese. Bob Dylan, whom Scorsese called "the great one," performed. Fitz and the Tantrums were present throughout the night, playing as the house band in and out of commercial breaks. Sean Penn accepted the Joel Siegel Award live via satellite from Haiti, where he's been continuously busy with the type of humanitarian work for which he was being honored.

The show kicked off with a sketch featuring Huebel and Scheer as "inanimate object actors," as folks like Jon Favreau, Michael Bay and Ray Liotta satirically praised their green-screen work as lamps, guns and spare tires in movies like "Transformers" and "Horrible Bosses." The bit included a cameo from Martin Starr, who astute observers/ comedy fans love from "Party Down" and "Freaks and Geeks."

The hosting pair emerged onstage looking like the "Men in Black" with matching suits and launched into a monologue and faux Q&A that took lighthearted shots at the show itself ("there are no technical awards, because they are boring"), Vin Diesel and Adam Sandler. "Since this show started," Scheer said, "seven more movies with Ryan Gosling have been released."

Dunst and Owen Wilson offered a toast to film critics ("Your words influence millions of movie lovers everywhere," Dunst said) before presenting the first televised award of the night. Octavia Spencer was visibly moved as she accepted Best Supporting Actress. "Well, I'm not prepared. I wasn't a Girl Scout," she said. "Oh my God, this is kind of crazy. Whoo!"

Wilson and Dunst returned ("Do you think the critics bought our toast a minute ago?" Wilson said dryly) to hand Best Supporting Actor to Christopher Plummer for his role as a gay man who comes out late in life in "Beginners." "I'm completely turned on," the 82-year-old screen legend said. "I feel terribly young tonight suddenly, and at my age, I need all the help I can get in that department. Thank you!"

Next came a word from the "BFCA presidents" — Statler and Waldorf from "The Muppets"! The curmudgeonly duo from the Muppet Theater balcony said the show thus far "has more of a plot than 'Tree of Life' " and "three times the laughs of 'Contagion' and 'The Descendants' put together!"

During her first acceptance speech, Spencer had said, "I guess the operative word here is 'Best Supporting,' because I was truly supported by the most amazing cast and crew." And not long after, she was elected by her castmates to speak as they accepted the Best Acting Ensemble Award together, which was presented by "Bridesmaids" costar Maya Rudolph and newcomer Elizabeth Olsen.

Director Gore Verbsinski accepted the Best Animated Feature award for "Rango." "Having never made an animated movie before — it is so incredibly difficult," he acknowledged. "My respect and admiration for my fellow nominees this evening is tremendous."

Patton Oswalt, whose role in "Young Adult" had put him up against Plummer in the Best Supporting Actor category, swigged from a small bottle of scotch when he took the stage to introduce Best Comedy. He implored the audience not to feel sorry for him, however. "There are plenty of nuanced roles for schlubby actors out there. And the ones that [Paul] Giamatti and Philip Seymour Hoffman don't take are all mine!" Producer Judd Apatow dropped two F-bombs as he spoke on behalf of the team behind Best Comedy "Bridesmaids."

"Jerry Lewis once said that he didn't think women were funny," he pointed out. "So I would just like to say, with all respect: F--- him!"

The next section of the show saw Best Foreign Film awarded to the Iranian movie "A Separation" and a sketch parodying Steven Spielberg's "War Horse," complete with an "interview" with the horse from the movie and a scene featuring Michael Cera. Later in the night, the hosts saluted "fictional characters we lost in movies," including (spoiler alert!) "this girl" and "some ninjas" in movies like "13 Assassins," "Shark Night," "Fast Five" and "Scream 4" as a montage that played to the sounds of Boyz II Men's "Say Goodbye to Yesterday."

Paul Rudd presented the award for Best Young Actor/Actress to Thomas Horn from "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close." "Thank you film critics," the former "Jeopardy Kids" champion gushed, "This is amazing!" Former child actor DiCaprio gave a long introduction to his friend and collaborator Scorsese before a series of clips from the filmmaker's classic movies played. DiCaprio was joined by Harrison, and then Marty took the stage himself, shouting out the Hot Club of France, whom he listened to growing up in New York City in the '40s.

NBC sitcom stars Donald Glover ("Community") and Mindy Kaling ("The Office") gave out both of the screenplay awards. Kaling professed her adoration of versatile actor Michael Fassbender ("This is why I came here tonight, to meet him") and Glover acted out what making out with Charlize Theron might look like. Best Adapted Screenplay went to "Moneyball." Best Original Screenplay went to Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris." "We accept this award on his behalf," Kaling said of the absent Allen. "That's awesome!"

Muppet revivalist Jason Segel called all the guys in the Best Director category "my future directors" and told all of them, "I was really honored to learn that I'll be making films with all of you this year" before he handed out the award to Hazanavicius for "The Artist."

"It feels like 'The Help' table is having more fun than us. Here's a fun transition," began Clooney, as he began to talk about continuing earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. "Very few have committed themselves as completely to the people of Haiti as Sean Penn. And he didn't just dip his toe into the humanitarian pool, he dove in. ... Sean isn't here tonight because he's in Haiti, but we have him live by satellite."

Penn thanked "the example" of Joel Siegel and of Clooney. "I was reminded that great filmmaking is truly a humanitarian act," said Penn, referencing the earlier Scorsese montage. "The people of Haiti embrace the work that the committed among you do."

Penn's ex-wife Robin Wright called 2011 "definitely the year of the woman" as she introduced the Best Actress category. "Everything beautiful and complicated about us was onscreen this year," she said. Davis said she was "absolutely so humbled" by her win.

Clooney hugged one of his competitors, buddy Brad Pitt, on the way up to accept his award from Dustin Hoffman, before sharing a story with the crowd about the time his father reminded him of his grandfather's work as a sharecropper, which included a mention of the Naugahyde leisure suit his mother made for him in the sixth grade. "If you're not proud of what you're doing, then do it better," Clooney said his father told him. "I have to say that I am very proud to be in this film."

After "The Artist" won best picture, Heubel and Scheer said their goodbyes. With a wide grin, Scheer advised: "Now let's all get on Twitter and see who's ripping us apart!"

George Clooney Teases Brad Pitt 'Death Match' At Critics' Choice Awards

'Descendants' star, who bested his buddy for Best Actor, also talks politics with MTV News.

It's a pretty good week when you get the chance to talk to George Clooney once. But God bless awards season, because just a few days after catching up with the "Descendants" star on the New York red carpet at the National Board of Review, we snagged some time with him again Thursday (January 12) in Los Angeles at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards.

As always, the guy was utterly charming. Can't wait for the Golden Globes this Sunday! We can't say the same for Clooney, who isn't exactly impressed these days by all the awards-season hubbub.

"The truth is, I think awards are always a very nice thing, in particular in helping films that are small continue to be made, because they are hard to get made," he told MTV News. "There was a time when I was younger that the idea of them was intimidating and the idea of these kinds of shows was intimidating, and now it's just fun, because I get to see people I like that I don't get to see very often."

Of more interest for Clooney is the political horserace rather than the Hollywood one. "There's been a pretty fun debate in the Republican Party; I've enjoyed watching. I'm sad it's coming to a close," he admitted. "I'm a Democrat, so there are things that are fun about it. Listen, they're going to find a guy, and it looks like it's going to be Mitt Romney, and then away we go."

That's a much more entertaining prospect than facing off against his Hollywood friends — guys like "Moneyball" star Brad Pitt, whom he's been faux-battling all awards season. Clooney triumphed this time around, besting his pal for Best Actor at the CCMAs.

"I'm sure there's a death match," he joked of the Clooney-vs.-Pitt hype in the media. "Look, he's my buddy, so everything that happens that's good for him makes me very happy."

'Jersey Shore' Star Vinny Hit 'Breaking Point' Before Leaving

'I had to go home to recharge; Pauly is just not enough,' Staten Islander tells MTV News of taking a break from the boardwalk.

Vinny contemplates leaving on "Jersey Shore"

After spending season four of "Jersey Shore" in Italy, the Seaside gang headed right back to Jersey, as fans saw after last week's season-five premiere. But while they wasted no time getting into their old routine of hitting the gym, tanning and fist-pumping the night away, one castmember wasn't really up for GTL.

"I had to go home to recharge; Pauly is just not enough," Vinny told MTV News , about his departure on Thursday night's (January 11) episode.

And although Ronnie assured us that fans of the hit MTV show would see a much "lighter side" of the crew this year, it seems Vinny had a hard time adjusting to life back in Seaside Heights. With little personal time between the Florence and New Jersey seasons, Vinny decided to pack his bags and head home to Staten Island for a breather.

"We just came from Italy, and you know we all hit a wall at some point," Vinny explained. "We all kind of reached our breaking point in some way because it was so hard, the schedule, you will see my personal problems happen in the first couple of episodes. I'm just the type of person, when I'm feeling like that, I need certain things."

"Jersey Shore" fans know that Pauly D and Vinny share a special bond, so how did his bro handle the Staten Islander's exit? "We almost had a blowup when he left," Pauly revealed. "You just expect him to be there; you don't realize what you got till it's gone, I'll tell you that."

Mike "The Situation" added, "I know [Pauly] was genuinely upset. We were all upset, but Pauly took it to heart, I know that for a fact."

It wasn't just Pauly, though. All of the housemates were affected by Vinny's departure.

"It hit home for a lot of us because we all had to kind of face our emotions, because Vinny's the person that's always our voice of reasoning and [now he] is saying, 'I can't take it anymore,' " JWoww explained. "This is a family, when you have ... a brother or sister leave, it's heartbreaking, it's sad. You really do feel like something is missing in the house."

Kristen Stewart A 'Good Fight' In 'Snow White,' Charlize Theron Says

'The bitch brought it!' she tells MTV News at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards about 'Snow White and the Huntsman' rival.

It's no secret that we are very excited about Kristen Stewart's first big non-"Twilight" movie, "Snow White and the Huntsman," which made it through to the Sweet 16 in the MTV Movie Brawl 2012. We're excited not only because Stewart is the star, but because she is playing an action-star version of Snow White and faces off against a very formidable Evil Queen in Charlize Theron.

The last time we caught up with Theron, she hadn't yet filmed the big fight sequence with Stewart but admitted that she hoped her Evil Queen might get the best of Stewart's Snow White. "I'm just really, really, really hoping I get to kill her," she said with a smile. "That is how the story ends up, right?"

We're pretty sure that isn't how the story ends — especially since we happened to bump into Theron again at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards on Thursday (January 12), and she seemed to be changing her previous tune. When we asked the Oscar winner and Best Actress CCMA nominee for "Young Adult" if she'd filmed the epic fight sequence, she didn't seem too keen to divulge any details.

"Yeah," she admitted, "but I don't want to talk about it."

Why didn't Theron want to talk about it? Did the fight not end in her favor?

"I don't want to talk about it. No! No, it's going to be a surprise," she said, resisting our probing questions. "Dammit, I give you way too much. People have to pay money to go see the movie to see what happens."

Theron finally relented a bit and revealed that Stewart's Snow White does, indeed, kick some ass.

"She was a good fight," Theron said. "She was a good fight. The bitch brought it! There you go. Now you have something."

For those who might not be familiar with the names Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel, this year's hosts of the Critics' Choice Movie Awards, you've very likely seen their faces and comedic stylings in a variety of roles in TV and film.

Scheer is one of our illustrious MTV alumni, having co-created and starred in the sketch comedy series "Human Giant," and can currently be seen in FX's fantasy football-themed bro comedy "The League." You also probably recognize him from a multitude of guest-starring roles in shows and movies like "Parks and Recreation," "30 Rock," "Reno 911," "Party Down," "Piranha," "Happy Endings" and "Children's Hospital."

Huebel's résumé is equally lengthy, and he and Scheer have many projects in common. Huebel also starred in "Human Giant," along with guest stints on "30 Rock," "Reno 911," "Happy Endings," "Party Down," "The League" and "Children's Hospital." The funnyman has also been collecting more and more film roles in recent years, including parts in "I Love You, Man," "Little Fockers," "The Descendants" and the upcoming ensemble comedy "What to Expect When You're Expecting."

Scheer and Huebel proved to be punchy and adept hosts for the Critics' Choice Awards, in that they kept their bits relatively short and allowed the celebrities to shine in the spotlight. Our favorite of their transitional pieces was the lighthearted poking fun at the elaborate motion capture process in "No Movement Motion Capture Artists," which featured great cameos from Michael Bay and Ray Liotta, and their excellent interview piece with Joey the horse from "War Horse," with a cameo by Michael Cera as the horse handler.

After thanking viewers for tuning in, Scheer ended the evening with a self-aware jab at their performance: "Now let's all get on Twitter and see who's ripping us apart!"

Bob Dylan Honors Martin Scorsese At Critics' Choice Movie Awards

Any excuse to hear Bob Dylan play live is a pleasure. The experience is made all the more pleasurable when it's in the service of honoring filmmaker Martin Scorsese.

Such was the case at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards on Thursday (January 12) when Scorsese was selected as the Music + Film honoree. After a scorching montage that touched on not only his feature films but his excellent work in musical documentaries — from the Band's "Last Waltz" to the Rolling Stones' "Shine a Light" — Dylan took the stage to perform "Blind Willie McTell," a tune included in Scorsese's PBS documentary series "The Blues."

The two artists' connection goes back further though, back to the 2005 doc "No Direction Home," which follows Dylan through his musical and cultural development in the 1960s. After an introduction by Leonardo DiCaprio, Scorsese took the stage to deliver a heartfelt speech about how music first impacted his life and how it has influenced his cinematic work.

"Such a great honor and an amazing performance by the great one, Bob Dylan," he began. "This award has a very special significance to me, so I'd like to begin with a special thank-you to Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli and the Hot Club of France. That was the music I used to hear when I was growing up in my apartment in New York, even before we had a TV, in the middle to late '40s.

"Before anything for me, there was music and conversation, and for me they were both the same thing," he added.

Also onstage to present the award to Scorsese was Olivia Harrison, widow of ex-Beatle George Harrison, who was the subject of Scorsese's 2011 documentary "George Harrison: Living in the Material World."

Wiz Khalifa Is 'Perfection,' Amber Rose Gushes

'I cook him breakfast every morning. I rub his feet, I give him kisses,' Amber Rose says on 'RapFix Live.'

Amber Rose went through a range of emotions when she appeared on Wednesday's episode of "RapFix Live." The radiant model spoke excitedly about her new single, "Fame," and also broke down in tears when she described how she is bullied on the streets. But when the subject of her boyfriend, Wiz Khalifa, came up, Rose turned gleeful. "He's so freaking cute, that's my baby right there," Amber gushed. "He's beautiful, he's perfection to me. I don't see any flaws when I look at him."

Wiz and Amber aren't married, though a rumor that they tied the knot did swirl in September. They do, however, live in the same building — practically next door to each other, Amber explained. "When we met, we fell in love and then he moved to L.A. and he wound up moving in my building and we just started our life like that together," she said. "It's good, we're not married yet, and it's good that we still have our separate places. I have a lot of clothes, so my clothes are not going to fit in his condo at all."

Rose is all about her man. The model went into great detail on the lengths that she goes to for Khalifa. She is quite the cook, and Wiz is particularly fond of her spaghetti. "I get up in the morning, I cook him breakfast every morning. I rub his feet, I give him kisses, feed him breakfast in bed," she listed. "I clean the house, I run the shower for him; I iron his clothes and whatever he wants.

"I love him; I would do anything for him. He is a spoiled brat when it comes to me. I don't let him lift a finger; I do everything for him," Rose continued. "I am the wife, I take care of all that. He doesn't have to do anything."

The couple's love is a two-way street, and Amber assures us that the rapper reciprocates her feelings. "He respects me, he loves me, he gives me all that in return," she said. "We kinda do that to each other."

LAS VEGAS — In the past few years, the International Consumer Electronics Show has slowly morphed from an annual pilgrimage for tech geeks into a star-studded event where celebs lend their rallying cries to a variety of new products and services. One quick stroll around the Las Vegas Convention Center, home of CES, or any of its many offsite events, and you'll quickly find yourselves rubbing shoulders with the likes of Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake, Will Smith, 50 Cent, Kelly Clarkson and even "Jersey Shore" stars Snooki and Pauly D.

Biebs was on hand to introduce the mRobo Ultra Bass, a Transformer-like portable MP3 player and speaker that turns into a dancing robot as the music plays, while "Social Network" star Justin Timberlake took the stage at a Panasonic Event and discussed plans for MySpace TV.

Will Smith and Kelly Clarkson surprised the crowd at a Sony press conference with Smith promoting the forthcoming release of "Men in Black 3" and Clarkson closing the event by performing her hit "Mr. Know It All."

Snooki and Pauly D brought a little Seaside swagger to the convention. Snooks helped promote a series of audio products at iHip's booth, telling MTV News, " I am very excited for my new partnership with iHip and to get started on creating my very own headphone line."

Pauly D announced plans to hook up with SMS Audio and its CEO, rapper 50 Cent, to design a new headphone line. "Having my own headphones has always been a dream of mine, and now that dream is a reality," Pauly told MTV News, while 50 Cent added via a press release, "Pauly D has a true passion for music and I know he'll put that same energy into helping us develop and promote a quality headphone line."

Before you run off and book your ticket to Vegas for CES 2013, it's worth noting that the show is closed to the general public, and unless you are Justin Bieber, no one under the age of 18 is allowed in.

Heather Locklear Taken To Hospital After 911 Call

Heather Locklear was rushed to a California hospital on Thursday with what law officials are labeling "a medical emergency."

TMZ reports that the emergency was a dangerous mix of prescription medication and alcohol. She was taken by ambulance from her home after a call was placed to 911.

"Emergency response personnel responded to a medical emergency call at Ms. Locklear's residence," Ventura County Sheriff's Capt. Mike Aranda told People later Thursday. "Once they arrived, it was determined that Ms. Locklear needed to be transported to the hospital for further medical attention."

This is the second medical scare for the 50-year-old actress within the past 13 months. In December of 2010, Locklear landed in the hospital for a brief stay for a bacterial infection.

2011 was not without bumps for the actress either after a split with longtime beau Jack Wagner, once her co-star on "Melrose." The couple had been engaged for only three months.

Locklear had appeared in public as recently as Tuesday night at a Lakers game, reports TMZ.

Locklear had returned to television in 2009 to revive her role as Amanda Woodward on a reboot of "Melrose Place." Locklear had proved dependable for weekly watercooler discussion during the series' original run in the mid-'90s.

'Hunger Games' Looking Fierce In Movie Brawl Elite Eight

What's your pick for the must-see movie of 2012? Cast your vote now!
By Eric Ditzian

Tim Tebow ain't got nothing on the MTV Movie Brawl 2012. Sure, the granter of all-American dreams and thrower of game-winning touchdowns showed some playoff heroics last weekend, but the action in MTV's cinematic tournament had movie groupies alternately sweating, cursing and celebrating just as much as Denver Bronco fans.

To wit, two of Robert Pattinson's upcoming films, "Bel Ami" and "Cosmopolis," faced off in a Sweet Sixteen matchup that was decided by three votes. Tens of thousands of votes were cast, and three clicks launched "Cosmopolis" to victory. On the other side of the bracket, #7 seed "The Woman in Black," an indie horror flick, looked like it didn't have a chance against Universal's big-budget "Snow White and the Huntsman." But Daniel Radcliffe fans came out in force to support the boy wizard's first post-"Harry Potter" flick, showing up Kristen Stewart devotees with a healthy serving of get the hell out of this tournament! When the final tally came in, more than 250,000 votes had been cast, and KStew's fairy tale was headed home with a lot of explaining to do.

Vote For Your Favorite Upcoming Flick In MTV's Movie Brawl 2012!

As least she's still alive in the Brawl, as "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" came through with a commanding victory over "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace," despite the nefarious meddling of "Hunger Games" fans, who were furiously voting for "Phantom Menace" in an attempt to send the vampires to a humiliating defeat. It didn't work. "HG" fans, though, weren't the only ones trying to pull off a bit of bracket-based strategery. "Breaking Dawn" voters came out in force to support "Prometheus" in its fight with "Hunger Games." Once again, the gambit didn't work. But it showed just how merciless this competition is going to be as we inch toward the finals.

Let's take a look at where we stand as the Elite Eight kicks into high gear.

Upper West Region
It's all Pattinson, all the time, as "Breaking Dawn" faces off against "Cosmopolis." The key question here for Twi-fans is whether they're going to vote for RPattz as he's been or RPattz as he's going to be. Will it be out with the old and in with the new, or will the sparkly vampires reign supreme? If you ask us, "Breaking Dawn" ain't going nowhere, but this tourney isn't up to us.

Lower West Region
It's getting dark up in here! "The Dark Knight Rises" limped into the Sweet Sixteen after a disappointing first-round showing, and we were fearful Christopher Nolan's film would face an early ouster at the hands of "Marvel's The Avengers." That didn't happen, and now "Dark Knight" faces a weakened "Dark Shadows" in the Elite Eight. Johnny Depp's upcoming film surprised us all with an outstanding opening-round performance, leading to a #2 seed. But "Shadows" struggled in its matchup, needing up until the final hours of play to put the match away. Momentum is everything in the playoffs, so we have to say "Dark Knight" is in the driver's seat in this game.

Upper East Region
Were it not for the savvy scheming of "Twilight" fans, "Hunger Games" might have walked away from the Sweet Sixteen with the greatest margin of victory in the entire tournament. As it stands, "HG" heads into the Elite Eight with perhaps the easiest matchup of all. "John Carter" and "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" fought back and forth for days, with leads changing hands and the ultimate victor too close to call until an eleventh-hour surge sent "G.I. Joe" ahead. That leaves us wondering if the sequel has enough left in the gas tank to pull off a win. Actually, we're not wondering at all: shut off the lights and put the kids to bed: "Hunger Games" has this in the bag.

Lower East Region
Voters in this region are still reeling from the unexpected departure of "Snow White." There's no time to rest, though. "Woman in Black" has established itself as a dark horse in the Brawl — one that could threaten "Hunger Games" in the Final Four. Before then, however, Radcliffe's flick will have to battle a resurgent "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." Peter Jackson's film waged a hard-fought war with Emma Watson's "Perks of Being a Wallflower" and came out with a narrow 3 percent victory. That's some impressive stuff. Can "Hobbit" keep it going? Is there anything that can keep "Woman in Black" from a trip to the Final Four? We've got until January 16 to decide. That's when voting in the Elite Eight ends. There are no excuses in the Movie Brawl. Get busy voting!

What are you waiting for? Your must-see movie needs your support. It's time to show character, poise and heart. Vote for your picks now at MTV Movie Brawl 2012!

'Bourne Legacy' Star Oscar Isaac Is One To Watch In 2012

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 03:18 AM PST

After a star turn in 'Drive' and a plum part in the globe-trotting franchise, Isaac is poised to top himself this year.
By Josh Horowitz

Oscar Isaac had a pretty damn fine 2011, working with Madonna, Ryan Gosling and Zack Snyder. That's a year nearly anyone in Hollywood — and certainly those trying to leap into its shark-infested waters — would kill to have.

The crazy thing is that Isaac is poised to top himself in 2012. He's starring opposite Jeremy Renner in "The Bourne Legacy," a franchise that has grossed almost a billion dollars since its debut in 2002. And the Coen brothers cast him in the lead role in "Inside Llewyn Davis," a film focusing on the 1960s-era folk music scene in Greenwich Village. No doubt, Isaac is One to Watch this year, which is why we hopped on the phone with the actor recently to discuss everything he has coming up over the next 12 months.

MTV News: We've been following your career for a while here. First of all, you should know there's a lot of huge "Drive" fans in our office.

Oscar Isaac: Nice! I remember going in to see a very early cut of the film and thinking, "I cannot believe I am in this movie!" I was so stoked when I saw it.

MTV: Does it feel like you've recently hit a groove with respect to what's going on with your career?

Isaac: Yeah, I think once I got the Coen brothers film, I could definitely feel a bit of a shift. The dream is definitely in full effect. I just got back from a meeting with the CoBros and it was amazing, man. It was just the three of us sitting around going through the script and showing each other different movies. Plus, I'm a musician — I've been doing that for years — and I get to play lots and lots of music in the film. I'm going to record an album of it in January in New York with T-Bone [Burnett].

MTV: Wow, that's amazing.

Isaac: Yeah, man. If I were to describe the exact perfect scenario for me it would be what's happening for me in January and February in New York. I'm beside myself and can't believe my luck.

MTV: How did you get the part?

Isaac: I found out about it way early on that they were putting together a movie based on the folk scene in the '60s in New York. As soon as I heard that I was like, I've got to get in there. I sent in a tape of me playing one of the songs. It's based on Dave Van Ronk who was known as the "Mayor of MacDougal Street." They really liked what I sent in and they brought me in to audition. Then they made me wait for about a month. I was thinking about it nonstop and then they called and offered it to me. It was unreal to get that call from Joel [Coen].

MTV: Is the stuff you're singing in the movie original music or will it be familiar?

Isaac: It's not overly familiar. They're older folk songs. I don't think anything is being written for it. T-Bone and I have gotten together to do some new arrangements of some of these old songs. There is lots of music in the movie.

MTV: Would you call it a comedy?

Isaac: Oh yeah, most definitely. There's a nihilistic quality to it. It's filled with a wry absurdist sense of humor.

MTV: Who is this guy you play?

Isaac: He's a working-class guy from Queens. He's just trying to make it in this scene. A lot of bad sh-- happens to him. [Laughs.] He's just resilient as f---. He keeps going forward in a slightly Buster Keaton-esque way.

MTV: The put-upon man is definitely a Coen brothers specialty.

Isaac: Yeah, exactly! Going through all their films there is something about that guy who has real heart but is always a couple steps behind. If a pigeon flies over and sh--s on someone, it's going to be that guy. [Laughs.]

MTV: I know you just wrapped on "The Bourne Legacy." I've heard you were in the mix to get the lead role, right?

Isaac: Yeah, I had never done a screen test before. They brought me in and I gave it a go at trying to look cool with a gun. [Laughs.] It was great. I really like Tony [Gilroy]. He's so smart, and he runs a really inclusive set for such a big movie. It felt like an indie movie because all of the conversations were out in the open. It was one of the best shooting experiences I've had.

MTV: How did you end up getting the part you did?

Isaac: After the screen test I got the call saying the studio was not quite ready to pull the trigger on me. But a few weeks later, I got a call from Tony saying we've got this part and we'd love you to do it. I jumped at it, of course. I have to say they definitely got the right guy for the job. I would have acted the sh-- out of it but Jeremy [Renner] is the real deal. The dude has incredible skills. Not only is he a great actor but he's tough as nails.

MTV: Did you have to do some physical training?

Isaac: Believe it or not, my part actually required a great deal of actual acting, not just action. It's a really cool sequence in the film. It's a Western standoff kind of thing going on.

MTV: Do you actually have a name in it? On IMDb you are listed as #3.

Isaac: [Dramatically] I am #3.

What are you waiting for? Your must-see movie needs your support. It's time to show character, poise and heart. Vote for your picks now at MTV Movie Brawl 2012!

Deniz Koyu Talks Quick Rise Into EDM's Elite

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 04:29 AM PST

'I actually got into dance music quite late,' German producer tells MTV News.
By Adam Stewart

One of dance music's hottest underground names of 2011 is geared up to be one of dance music's biggest draws of 2012. For those of you who have not been to a show or listened to a proper comp mix in the past six months, here's your chance to get acquainted with one of the most talented people in the game, Deniz Koyu. MTV News recently sat down with the German producer while he was on tour with Fedde Le Grand, and even he admits that his ascension to the big league is something he never quite expected.

"I actually got into dance music and house music quite late, like 18 or 19," said Koyu, who recently made MTV News' list of EDM Rookies to Watch. "Before, I was just into anything, pop music and indie pop also. I was also a huge fan of Daft Punk — maybe this is one of my big influences. Then there was this era with all this disco house stuff, which influenced me as well. Then electro house was big for a short period of time, then it went into progressive house. So yeah, I kind of got influenced by all of this over the past five years."

In that short time, Koyu has turned his personal tastes into thump-tastic tunes with some of the most unique and well-produced tracks you're likely to find. In fact, less than a month ago, Swedish House Mafia showcased three of his tracks at their highly anticipated Madison Square Garden show, more than any other non-SHM artist in their set. If anything, Koyu's calling card is his ability to avoid being recognized for any one signature thumbprint or production technique, but rather his uncanny ability to produce à la carte anthems with precision and depth, perhaps best personified in his breakthrough club smash "Tung!," whose success he admits was a shock.

"I did it very quickly in, like, four days in the studio, I just had a rough idea — this unique sound. It's hard to describe; it sounds like an instrument, like a vuvuzela," he explained. "I started to play the melody and I got a rough idea with the beats, and then, to be honest, I had no idea what I was actually doing there — I just finished the track there very quickly. I sent it to Fedde, and he was really amazed by the track. I got perfect feedback from it, and I thought, 'Hey, maybe it's a cool track, let's see what happens!' But I didn't think it would go so big."

"Tung!" was just one of many massive tracks, along with "Hertz" and "Hydra," that Koyu blasted out under Fedde le Grand's Flamingo Records imprint to the masses this past year, but perhaps what gave him the most radio and club play was his and Johan Wedel's infectiously addictive remix of James Blunt's "Dangerous."

"I didn't have the [expectations] that it would go that viral — pretty much every big DJ played the track, not only the [Swedish House Mafia] but David Guetta, Tiësto and pretty much everyone!" said Koyu, who tells MTV News that Blunt is actually quite the house head. "He was very much into it, which was surprising to me. I didn't expect James Blunt to be into dance music, but he actually is — he really is. Every summer he spends so much time in Ibiza, he's a house maniac freak even if you don't believe it!"

Since "Dangerous" became a late-year anthem, it should come as no surprise that with Koyu's seemingly magic touch, the remix requests have been pouring in. He was most recently courted by the likes of Ultra Records and Kaskade.

"First they asked me to do another remix for 'Eyes,' and then a few days later they offered the other track with Rebecca and Fiona, 'Turn It Down,' so I could choose between the two," he explained. "It was a hard decision because I really like both tracks. I think they're both amazing. I was always kind of a fan of Rebecca and Fiona. Their voices are great. I like them very much. I took ["Turn It Down"] but they're both great tracks."

But that's not all that's been keeping the producer busy in his spare time. There's also "New Day," his latest tri-laboration with Fedde and Wedel.

"I think if you go into the studio with someone, it doesn't always mean the best comes out of all of the people in there, but I think in this case it really did," Fedde said of the new track. "I think it's a very special, very amazing, very catchy track as well. We're checking at the moment if we can add a small vocal to it, and it should be out at the beginning of the year. We've both been playing it already, and the reactions are awesome."

"There's a lot in the pipeline right now," Koyu added. "I also am doing a remix for Fedde with 'So Much Love.' Then I'm doing some more collaborations — more with Fedde and some other guys I can't say just yet, but it's definitely going to be an exciting year."

Miranda Cosgrove is welcoming her biggest and most political guest star to date on Monday's episode of "iCarly." The teen star will be joined by first lady Michelle Obama in a very special episode of the series aptly called "iMeet the First Lady."

The episode, which airs at 7:30 p.m. ET on Nickelodeon, will follow Carly as she prepares to welcome her military dad home for his birthday. When he's unable to come back from his deployment, the First Lady meets with Carly to thank her for her family's sacrifice and service. Cosgrove said the idea for the episode came courtesy of Mrs. O herself after watching the show with her daughters.

"It was one of the most exciting days in the entire time we've been filming the series in the last five years," she said. "Because there was Secret Service everywhere and there's just so much preparation for her coming and everybody was so excited to meet her. And then she came to the set and she was really down to earth and fun."

Given that Mrs. Obama is such a rookie when it comes to acting, the young Hollywood heavyweight weighed in on the first lady's skills, giving her two thumbs up. "In real life she's really funny, so I think that helped a lot because she just has a really good sense of humor," she said. "So, she has good comic timing."

While the episode is about Carly's experience in a military family, the episode really pays homage to all the military families out there. "This is really the best thing we could have done because it's all about celebrating military families, just really letting all these kids know how important their parents are and how great they are for supporting them," Cosgrove said.

In fact, just to show how much support the show has for these families, the cast has been hosting special screenings of the episode at military bases throughout the country. The last will be held Friday (January 13) near Washington, D.C., at Hayfield Secondary School in Alexandria, Virginia.

"It's been really fun going to all the different military bases and meeting all the families and kids," Cosgrove said. "They're the first ones who get to see it ... The response has been really good."

And at this last screening, Cosgrave will be joined by her super special co-star. "Mrs. Obama is going to be there and we're going to get to see her again," she teased. "And maybe we'll randomly dance."

Critics' Choice Movie Awards Predictions

Brad Pitt or George Clooney? Viola Davis or Meryl Streep? MTV News forecasts who'll take home the prizes tonight at 8 p.m. on VH1.

For those who love awards season, you are likely loving life this week since it's jam-packed with pretty people wearing pretty clothes. Within just five days, there are three major awards shows: last night's People's Choice Awards, the Critics' Choice Movie Awards on Thursday and the Golden Globes on Sunday.

The Critics' Choice Movie Awards air at 8 p.m. Thursday (January 12) on VH1. And since we're only hours away, it's time to evaluate the big categories and make some predictions about who will take home the pretty glass trophies. Since these awards are decided upon by movie critics, we're using the handy critic/review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes to determine which nominees have the best shot at winning.

Check out photos of all the hot stars who walked the red carpet!

Without further ado, here are our predictions for the major categories:

Best Supporting Actor: Albert Brooks will take this category no problem. "Drive" was a hit with critics, especially Brooks' performance. Its 93 percent fresh rating trumps the other nominees in the category, with the closest competition being Christopher Plummer in "Beginners" (84 percent fresh), Andy Serkis in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" (83 percent fresh) and Kenneth Branagh for "My Week With Marilyn" (83 percent fresh).

Best Supporting Actress: Although Bérénice Bejo theoretically leads the pack for "The Artist" with overwhelming critical praise and 97 percent fresh rating, Melissa McCarthy's performance in "Bridesmaids" (90 percent fresh) is one of the most talked-about of the year. This one could very likely go to McCarthy, and we think it should, as great comedic performances don't get enough props. Shailene Woodley is the dark horse for her turn in "The Descendants" (88 percent fresh).

Best Actor: This category is a toughie, packed with A-list heavy-hitters who turned out six solid performances. Again, Jean Dujardin from "The Artist" has the edge by aggregate (97 percent fresh), but we're thinking it will come down to a bout between beloved real-life buddies George Clooney for "The Descendants" (88 percent fresh) and Brad Pitt for "Moneyball" (95 percent fresh).

Best Actress: Our aggregate strategy needs to be overlooked for this category, since the highest rating for the nominated films here is 88 percent fresh for Elizabeth Olsen in the lesser-known "Martha Marcy May Marlene." Even with award favorites Meryl Streep for "The Iron Lady" (56 percent fresh), Charlize Theron for "Young Adult" (79 percent fresh) and Tilda Swinton for "We Need to Talk About Kevin" (83 percent fresh), we think Viola Davis will take home the trophy for her work in "The Help," the film's 76 percent fresh rating notwithstanding since the highest praise for the film went to the acting by Davis and the rest of the ensemble cast.

Best Director: Another very tough call, given the nominations for Hollywood icons Martin Scorsese's "Hugo" (84 percent fresh) and Steven Speilberg's "War Horse" (78 percent fresh) and the continued love for Michel Hazanavicius' "The Artist" (97 percent fresh). We're going to go with Rotten Tomatoes on this one and predict that Hazanavicius will win. The film stands out among its competition for being shot completely in black and white, with no dialogue. Critics love the unique and daring approach Hazanavicius took in making the film.

Best Picture: Based on the fresh ratings for the films in this category, the front-runners here are "The Artist," "Hugo" and "Moneyball." Dark horses are "Drive" and "Midnight In Paris," both at 93 percent fresh. Really it comes down to the two films about film, "The Artist" and "Hugo." It's a decision between a unique, black-and-white silent picture and Martin Scorsese's first-ever foray into the family-friendly genre. How do you choose between such stellar nominees? We're going with "The Artist" and its crowd- and critic-pleasing 97 percent freshness.

Batman is suited up and raring to go on the "Dark Knight Rises" cover of the new Entertainment Weekly.

Christian Bale stands front and center on the magazine's cover as part of EW's 2012 movie preview, showing off a slightly updated batsuit for the first time. It's a nice introduction to the version of the Dark Knight that we'll see onscreen in a little more than six months.

Inside the issue, we're treated to three additional photos, two of which give us great looks at Tom Hardy in full Bane regalia. The pictures come from scenes briefly touched on in the first theatrical trailer, including one of a very scared-looking Commissioner Gordon. In one of the Bane photos, he's looking just off-camera at an unmasked Bruce Wayne, taken from the scene in the trailer when the "You have my permission to die" line is spoken.

The other photo of Hardy shows him at the large-scale brawl between Batman and police and Bane and his minions. We see Bane and Batman locked in hand-to-hand combat, something that has been teased about this film and something we haven't really seen since "Batman Begins."

For better or worse, Bane has been at the center of controversy since the world first heard his voice. In the EW preview, Christopher Nolan addresses the issue of the distorted dialogue, asking for his audience's faith. "I think when people see the film, things will come into focus," he said "Bane is very complex and very Interesting, and when people see the finished film, people will be very entertained by him."

The preview also features an interview with Bale, who opened up about the pressures of bringing the trilogy to a close. "I can tell you the truth because I'm done with it: I felt immense pressure," Bale said. "And I think it's a good pressure, because you owe it to the films — and the people's expectations — to make great work."

'Hunger Games' And Beauty: Grading The Alliance

In the latest Hobnobbing, we ask experts about Lionsgate's style-centric marketing efforts.

"The Hunger Games is the most public, prestigious event of the year in Panem. Cleanliness, dress and comportment offer an opportunity to affirm District pride and Capitol loyalty." This according to teal-tressed Panem talk-show host Caesar Flickerman, whose sound bite appears on the new "Hunger Games" Tumblr Capitol Couture, which saw its soft launch Wednesday. (Use the password "#lookyourbest" to login.)

The site is touted as the "one place to turn for all the tips, tricks and trends you need to look your best" and features a fresh image of Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) flaunting her trademark, flamboyant style — purple lips, pink hair and all. And though the page is a bit barren at the moment, we expect it to brim with fanciful headlines like "Cinna's 10 Tips for Fiery Eyes" and "Effie's Favorite Capitol Colour" very soon.

Of course, District 12's tight-lipped mentor isn't just the face of the new Web property; she's also the "spokeswoman" for the aforementioned Capitol Colours, a new line of District-themed nail polishes launched by China Glaze, and yet another entry in Lionsgate's style-centric marketing campaign, which has raised a few eyebrows (perfectly plucked and otherwise) among ardent fans.

At first blush, it seems a bit of an odd pairing, considering we are talking about a book series focusing on teens fighting to the death in front of a live television audience. Who cares about your manicure when you may die tomorrow from a tracker jacker sting? Not to mention, the story's protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, is more than a little cynical of the Capitol's lust for beauty and perfection. As such, we decided to check in with a few "Hunger Games" fans/experts to see what they think of Lionsgate's sleek campaign.

"I'll admit to being a little confused at first," said The Hob admin Michelle Andreani. "It did seem to feed into the book's criticism of superficiality and elitism, and after reading about Katniss struggling in District 12, it's hard to find the Capitol's luxury, well, luxurious. But that doesn't make the Capitol's citizens, and especially their fashion, any less intriguing. And taking a deeper look into that world is sure to be very cool. So, as the marketing campaign starts unfolding, I'm totally onboard. After all, you can look great and still have heart. Cinna and Effie prove that much, right?"

"Hunger Games" Examiner's Sara Gundell agreed, noting that other campaigns have used seemingly incongruous advertising efforts to positive effect. "I know some fans have complained that it doesn't fit with the book's message or Katniss' feelings on the lavish style of the Capitol. However, a marketing campaign for the movies isn't about conveying the film's message (we wouldn't have bounties of toys and merchandise available for 'WALL-E' if that were the case). It's about promoting the movie and selling tickets. The folks at Lionsgate are doing their job, and they're being very clever and creative about it."

And even though he doesn't wear brightly hued lacquers himself, Hunger Games Fireside Chat host Adam Spunberg said he can see the logic in appealing to the pretty side of things. "As Frances Burney said in the novel 'Evelina': 'It has been long and justly remarked, that folly has ever sought alliance with beauty.' I can really relate to Katniss here, since she and I have about the same interest in nail polish, Capitol Couture and all the rest (my kind of girl)," he said. "Still, we have to realize that the people seeing this movie are not fashion-deprived District 12 citizens or cosmetically inept people like me. In actuality, it's a bunch of nice fans from the Capitol dressing up, wearing makeup and eating popcorn, which makes this marketing strategy anything but folly!"
