Beyonce's Baby, Britney's Betrothal And More: 2012 Predictions

We forecast the year that will be for your favorite stars, in Bigger Than the Sound.
By James Montgomery

Welcome to 2012, the year that will either bring us the end of civilization as we know it or perhaps flying cars (finally!) Of course, between those two events, there's also going to be a presidential election, the London Olympics and that last "Twilight" movie (finally x 100!), not to mention a whole lot of activity within the lives of your favorite stars, too: Babies, weddings, honorary doctorates in nanotechnology; this is the year it'll all happen.

Which is why, with the new year upon us, I've decided to get my Kreskin on with these predictions for 2012. Don't ask me to gaze deep into my crystal ball and try to foresee who'll win the White House or the World Series, because, seriously, if I knew that, don't you think I'd be wagering right now? Instead, I'm tackling the important topics. Here's my 2012 forecast for the Beyoncés and Britneys of the world ... partly cloudy, with a zero-percent chance of accuracy.

» Beyoncé and Jay-Z will welcome a daughter, who, upon her, uh, release, will also release her debut single, "Run the World (Me)."

» Adele will win every single Grammy, including a stunning upset of Eres Un Farsante in the Best Regional Mexican Or Tejano Album category.

» Britney Spears and Jason Trawick will tie the knot in an elaborate, multi-denominational ceremony held — eh, I don't even care enough to finish this one.

» Katy Perry, having finally run out of singles to release off Teenage Dream, will spend the entirety of 2012 shooting videos for objects around her house. Her hits will include "Toaster," "KitchenAid Tilt-Head Stand Mixer" and "This Towel Set Someone Gave Russell and I for Our Wedding That We Keep in the Guest Bathroom."

» Dr. Dre will indefinitely scrap Detox and instead drop a more age-appropriate album called The Chronic Arthritis.

» Lady Gaga will wear a crazy hat or something.

» Rihanna will release six albums in 2012, each more raunchy than the last. Titles include Speculum, [Censored] [Censored] On My [Censored], and Songs About F---ing, which, oddly, will be a note-for-note remake of Big Black's Songs About F---ing.

» Dave Grohl is sure to do something awesome.

» Drake's sweater game will become so advanced that he will surpass Bill Cosby as the world's foremost expert on multi-hued knitwear. On a related note, he will also release a comedy album called To Russell, My Brother, Whom I Slept With.

» Nicki Minaj will stun the fashionistas when she appears at the annual Met Ball wearing a nice pantsuit she bought at Bealls.

» Justin Bieber will finally get that bike without the training wheels, since he's a big boy now.

» The Black Keys, buoyed by the success of their "Lonely Boy" video, will shoot another dance-only clip for "Gold on the Ceiling," this one set at Gallagher's 2000 and featuring nothing but topless women. Surprisingly, it will become the most-viewed music video in the history of everything.

» Lil Wayne will come full circle, get a tattoo of his face on his face.

» Guns N' Roses will reunite at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in April, only with that dude who plays a guitar shaped like a foot filling in for Slash and Tommy Stinson replacing Duff on bass. So, actually, it won't be Guns N' Roses at all.

» Coldplay's Chris Martin is just going to be fingerpainting everything.

» Rick Ross will be named the Memphis Restaurant Association's Restaurateur of the Year for his tremendous achievements in Wingstop-ery.

» Kanye West will literally explode.

» Fans of Skrillex will stop and realize that, in 1997, EDM was poised take over America too, and we ended up with Limp Bizkit as a result.

Iowa Caucus: Newt Gingrich Supporter Stands By Her Man

'I think he can beat Barack Obama,' 21-year-old tells MTV News.

URBANDALE, IOWA — With just hours to go before Iowa voters go to caucus, even as Newt Gingrich's poll numbers slipped from their former lofty perch to fourth place, one of his most-fervent campaign staffers told MTV News on Monday that she's blocking it out and keeping her eye on the prize.

"I don't pay a lot of attention to those polls. ... I like to focus on the goal to the very end," said Myranda Kazos, an energetic political pixie who has moved into a hotel room in Des Moines and put her life on hold in order to help Gingrich finish strong in Iowa. "I'm here to work and do the very best I can."

Kazos, 21, plans to take her LSAT exam soon, but in the meantime, she said she's logging 18-hour days working for the Gingrich campaign. Her hoarse voice is a testament to the handful of all-nighters she's pulled, as well as all-in days during which the self-described Newt obsessive has made more than 900 calls to voters in an attempt to lock in their vote.

The history and political science major at the University of South Dakota first got involved in politics in 2006 and has been a proud conservative booster ever since. In fact, though she can't caucus again this year because she's a South Dakota resident, she has some strong reasons for coming out for Gingrich.

"I think he can beat Barack Obama," she said confidently, bucking the trend of the 41 percent of Iowa voters who were reportedly undecided as the big day loomed, according to a poll released Monday. "I think he has the résumé, the intellect, the charisma. ... I don't think the other ones can [beat Obama]. ... I believe in his policies 100 percent."

With the 7 p.m. Tuesday caucus hour fast approaching, the main Des Moines campaign offices for the former Speaker of the House were not as frantic as you might imagine.

Around lunch time (hot dogs and baked beans, bananas, cookies and lots of Diet Coke), more than a dozen campaign volunteers and staffers were working their cell phones as they made the final round of voter calls from a non-descript workspace tucked into a generic office park on the outskirts of town. (In fact, it was just around the corner from the slightly buzzier campaign headquarters of former Senator Rick Santorum, who had made a surprise surge over the past week to overtake Gingrich in the final polling.)

Across the room, a grade-school-age campaign worker markered a Newt sign ("Salute for Newt!") in the shadow of what looked like her other scrawled handiwork ("I Newt It!" "We've Got Nthusiasm!") as another plugged into her iTouch and dozed on a blanket in a far corner behind her mother's desk.

Kazos stressed that she's not a one-issue voter, but that there are several aspects of Gingrich's résumé that appeal to her.

"I like the concept of a candidate who has a broad spectrum of things that I like and a broad spectrum of things I think he could actually do," she said, naming a strong defense, his solid Christian conservative values, views on abortion and gay marriage, and a robust economy as her top concerns.

Among the other issues she said she agrees with Gingrich on is his immigration policy. "I like the fact that it's something that's realistic. ... If those people are gang members ... we'll target those ones and kick them out, but [otherwise] let's help people find a plan where they can stay, let's work on securing the border."

If you've been anywhere near a TV during the past week or so, it was impossible to avoid the landslide of negative ads against Gingrich, portraying him as a flip-flopper, Democrat sympathizer and lobbying machine.

But Kazos, who said she's too busy working to watch much TV, said she's proud that Gingrich has taken the high road and not lavished millions on attack ads against his rivals. "At the end of the day, I say, a conservative is someone who cares about the country. ... At the end of the day, we all agree that we don't want Barack Obama in office," she said. "We want a win for the conservative party, our values, our beliefs. If the other candidates truly wanted that the way I do, the way Newt does, they wouldn't attack the other candidates."

Ke$ha Looks Forward To An 'Absolutely Crazy' 2012

'People say that rock and roll is dead, and it is my mission and my goal to resurrect it,' singer says of her next album.

With 2011 behind her, Ke$ha knows exactly how she'll be spending the next few months. She's preparing to hit the studio in early 2012 for her next album. And while she's favored Auto-Tune, club beats and lyrics about glitter for her past musical endeavors, this time around, anything is possible.

"I think that my first record was heavily influenced by Licensed to Ill and the Beastie Boys and that [first] record is, like, very brash and very sassy and very unapologetic and irreverent. And I love that," she told MTV News about her 2010 debut Animal.

"I'm really proud of that, but I have learned over the past three years of doing this that being vulnerable doesn't mean you're weak. I very much want to be seen as a strong woman, but I realize that vulnerability can also be a strength. So on my next record, you are going to hear probably a little more of that. I'm not going to make an acoustic, sad entire record. But you might hear a little bit more vulnerability on the next record 'cause I have realized just from this Dylan cover coming out [on Amnesty International's anniversary album] that it can be such a strength and a nice balance to humanize the other side of my personality," she added.

"I've been writing but I haven't gone in with [producer Dr. Luke] yet. He's working on stuff and I'm working on stuff for it. But [to] actually start, we go into the studio in January, early January."

If fans are looking for something new from K-Dollar Sign and can't wait for this next record, she already has some music for you to listen to. She recently dropped her latest "Sleazy" remix and will be one of the many artists covering Bob Dylan for the Amnesty International anniversary album out on January 24. But even with all that out in the world, she's especially excited for this next album.

"I feel like I don't necessarily agree, but people say that rock and roll is dead, and it is my mission and my goal to resurrect it in the form of my pop music," she declared. "That's the goal. We'll see what happens. That's a very ambitious and lofty goal, but that's my goal."

As one year ends and another begins, the bedazzled singer took a moment to reflect on 2011, and it was quite the wild ride for her.

"The whole year has been absolutely crazy, but I think that my tour, my headlining tour with LMFAO and Spank Rock, that was like really exciting to be a headliner for the first time really in my life, to be playing some of the same places I was playing opening for Rihanna," she said. "Sometimes you get caught up in the details, but when you're onstage at Jones Beach in front of 10,000 people, those moments, money can't buy those moments."

Noting that her appearance at Glastonbury Festival also topped her list of accomplishments for 2011, she admits she's still reeling from Britney Spears' recording of "Till the World Ends," which she penned.

"That song just came on the radio and I have to say, I love hearing Britney Spears sing my lyrics, every single day. It never gets old. I get so excited," she said. "It's better than any drug when you hear Britney Spears sing a song you wrote."

K hopes that in the next year, more people will see that she's a lot more than just glitter and hot pants. "I have a lot of growing and evolving to do," she explained. "I'm definitely not a one-trick pony and I think more people are starting to see that more and more."

For Undecided Iowa Caucus Voters, It's About Jobs

'I want somebody who can do more than just speak the rhetoric,' Iowan tells MTV News, as poll finds 41 percent still selecting a candidate.

URBANDALE, IOWA — You've heard a lot about the 99 percent, but not nearly as much about the 41 percent. That's the amount of voters Monday's (January 2) final polling found had still not made up their minds about who they are going to vote for in the Iowa caucus on Tuesday night.

"Iowans uniquely have a chance to go out and meet the candidates, and listen to them talk. ... Each candidate has had a chance to be at the top of the polls, but none of the polls represent the 100,000 or so Iowans that will vote tomorrow night," Jeremy Danilson said about the multiple opportunities voters in his state have to get face time with candidates in the first-in-the-nation primary. "I think everyone's taking their time, wants to make the best choice that they can."

Danilson, 28, has lived in Iowa most of his life, but is participating in his first caucus Tuesday after becoming more engaged in politics during his final two years in law school. Like a lot of young voters in Iowa, he's taking the plunge after being inspired by real-life issues that are affecting his life now that he's out of school.

"I'm personally leaning towards Newt Gingrich right now," said Danilson, who has attended two debates in Iowa and met a number of candidates face-to-face more than once, including Rep. Michele Bachmann, former Senator Rick Santorum, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, Rep. Ron Paul, Texas Governor Rick Perry, as well as Gingrich, with whom he's had two intimate, sit-down meetings in a small student group. "I feel like he actually understands where we are historically and where we need to go and uniquely has the ability to implement the change he's talking about."

Danilson's wife, Sara, 23, a waitress at the suburban OverTime sports bar, just finished her undergraduate degree and is actively looking for a full-time job as well. She said she got wrapped up in caucus fever because of Jeremy, but unlike her husband, with just over 24 hours to go, she had not yet decided which candidate is getting her vote.

"This is probably the first time I've really paid attention to what's going on as far as politics," she said of why the 2012 caucus has grabbed her attention. "I'm purely basing my decision off of the caucuses. I don't have a set candidate. There's nobody I'm really impressed with at this time.

"I'm excited to hear what people are going to say," she continued. "It's not going to be people working for the campaign. It's going to be real people, real Iowans, expressing how they feel about the candidates."

For Sara, who graduated in April with a B.A. in business administration, issue #1 is jobs. Specifically, what the GOP candidates will do to help her find one. "I've been applying to about everything," she said. "At first, I was kind of picky, and then I was just, 'Click, apply, click, apply,' because I can't find anything."

The couple both have student loans to start paying back soon, and they're looking for a candidate who will address the job situation and give them hope for paying off a mountain of debt that could easily overwhelm them if they can't find employment soon.

"Jobs is huge," said Jeremy, who is studying for his bar exam and working hard to find a job before he must start making loan payments in April. "I initially thought an undergrad degree would guarantee me a job. That's not the case, as Sara's struggling with that. Law school doesn't guarantee you a job either."

The time for stump speeches is over as far as Sara is concerned, and her night-of decision at a local high school auditorium will come down to the closing arguments from her friends and neighbors about the candidate they think can lead the country.

"The other thing is: I want somebody who can do more than just speak the rhetoric," Jeremy added about the nasty rhetoric that has filled the air, along with copious attack ads, in Iowa. "I need to believe that the candidate can actually accomplish what they're talking about."

Sara said she liked the tax plans for both Gingrich and Romney after doing research on the candidates' websites, while Jeremy said balancing the federal budget was another huge issue for him.

"Sara and I, we can only spend the money that we make," he said. "Why doesn't the [federal] government have to do that also? When I do get a job, I don't want to pay half my income in taxes."

Ron Paul Energizing First-Time Caucusers In Iowa

"He's one of the only honest politicians left," one voter says of Dr. Paul.
By Gil Kaufman, with reporting by Andrew Jenks

DES MOINES, IOWA — There's a very good reason that long-serving Texas Congressman and Tea Party Godfather Ron Paul has rocketed up the ranks in this crucial early caucus state: passion. Specifically, the kind of wide-eyed enthusiasm and dedication he inspires in young first-time caucusers like Carl Bisenius and his friends.

"I've made my decision and I'm going to vote for Ron Paul," said Bisenius, 19, of neighboring Ankeny, Iowa. "Mostly because he seems the most honest. He's got the best record out of all of them and I really agree with everything he says." Bisenius said he's been absorbing as much information as he can about the Republicans vying for the nomination while volunteering at a Paul call center in his hometown and he's convinced that the libertarian fire starter is the one who can beat President Obama.

"A lot of people are sick of politicians lying all the time, and he's one of the only honest politicians left," said Bisenius.

As he huddled around a table on Sunday night at Mullet's, a beer and burgers joint in the shadow of the state capitol in downtown Des Moines, Bisenius' confidence was bolstered by some cold, hard facts from friend Jay Fieser, 20, of Iowa City. A political science major the University of Iowa, Fieser said he paid "a bit" of attention to the 2008 election in which Paul also ran and has since learned enough about early 20th century foreign policy that he believes Rep. Paul is the man for the job.

"I think it would be interesting to see the United States going back to some kind of policies like that ... ending the policing of the world," said Fieser about Paul's non-interventionist arguments. As he spoke, an endless barrage of commercials from candidates Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry flashed by on the bar's flat screen TVs as the top candidates made a final, furious push to woo Hawkeye State voters.

"His foreign policy is what really drew me to him ... I don't like the two-party system here and he doesn't seem heavily invested in the Republican Party and they don't seem to like him that much. People are saying if he gets elected there will be a reshuffling of the parties and I'd like to see that."

Paul has drawn attention for a number of his beliefs, inlcuding not intervening in international conflicts, voting against the Iraq war, withdrawing from the United Nations, rejecting amnesty for illegal aliens and eliminating such federal government agencies as the Departments of Education, Energy, Commerce and IRS.

And, in some ways, Fieser said it is precisely because the rank-and-file of the GOP and the mainstream media have ignored or ridiculed Dr. Paul that he is so interested in the former obstetrician's views. "People are kind of sick of what's been going on in Washington for so long ... I think they're really staring to look at Ron Paul because of that," he said.

It is one of Paul's more radical ideas — returning the U.S. to the gold standard — that caught the eye of first-time caucuser Daniel Swenson, 18. "He seems to be the really only candidate that his voting record reflects his policies and principles he stands for. That's what really draws me to him," he said, citing Paul's claims that returning to the standard the country abandoned in 1933 in order to emerge from the Great Depression could help turn around our current economic crisis.

Like his friends, Danielson said he planned to do his part in the days leading up to Tuesday's vote by talking to his family and other undecided voters about Paul's policies and trying to sway them to cast a vote for the second-time presidential candidate.

Tom Cruise's domination of the holidays continued as "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" remained the #1 movie at the box office, taking in $31.3 million over the New Year's weekend. The fourth entry in the action franchise made an estimated $134 million in just 17 days, which is about what "Mission: Impossible III" made during its entire theatrical run.

"Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" was the runner-up in the box office race, collecting $22.1 million during its second weekend in theaters for $132.1 million total. Robert Downey Jr.'s second outing as the famous detective of classic literature carried an estimated production budget of $90 million.

"Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked," the third movie in the series, came in third on the New Year's box office scorecard. "Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked" jumped 45 percent from last weekend with $18.3 million for a $94.6 million total, which is about $45 million behind where the first "Alvin and the Chipmunks" stood at the same point in its run.

Steven Spielberg's "War Horse" was in a close race for the #4 spot with David Fincher's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." "War Horse" took in an estimated $16.4 million (for a $42.9 million total) while "Dragon Tattoo" earned another $16.8 million, which was a 16 percent increase from the weekend before. The first American adaptation of the popular Swedish novel has made a total of $57.1 million. Filmmaker Cameron Crowe's "We Bought a Zoo" was #5 with $14.3 million for a $41.8 million total.

Garry Marshall's critically reviled ensemble rom-com "New Year's Eve" doubled its previous weekend, thanks no doubt to the arrival of the holiday for which it's named. The follow-up to "Valentine's Day" has made just $46.4 million since its release, however, and 93 percent of film critics panned the flick, according to film review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.

Looking back at the 2011 box office, the final "Harry Potter" film was #1 overall with its $381 million gross. "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" was just behind with $352.3 million. Rounding out the top five were "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" ($275.4 million), "The Hangover Part II" ($254.4 million) and "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" ($241 million).

Check out everything we've got on "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol."

Katy Perry And Russell Brand: Experts Dissect Divorce Announcement

Holiday announcement 'is a time-honored celeb tradition. It gets buried a bit because of all the year-end news,' celebrity-news editor says.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand might have decided to announce their divorce over the weekend for a good reason. Celebrity-news experts explain to MTV News why celebs choose to make big announcements on holidays.

David Caplan, a celebrity-news editor who has worked at People and Star, noted that confirming separations during a busy time falls under "PR 101." "Burying a celeb split over a holiday is a time-honored celeb tradition, really kicked off by Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey back in the day, when they finally split and announced it the night before Thanksgiving," he explained. "It's a smart tactical move on their end, as it gets buried a bit because of all the year-end news."

See a timeline of Katy Perry and Russell Brand's relationship.

Caplan added that it's not just about a slower news cycle, but also a slower work schedule for those in the celebrities' inner circle and those who get paid to follow celeb news. "From a logistics point of view, news outlets, particularly the celebrity media, are either shut down or working with a skeletal staff, so pursuing the story and advancing it is difficult since it simply means there are less reporters available to dig further and to disseminate the story to the public," he noted. "Plus, celeb publicists are typically not too available over a holiday, which makes getting info harder for the journalist, which means less gets disseminated to the public.

"And the less that gets disseminated to the public, particularly anything that Katy or Russell's publicists didn't send out, the happier Katy and Russell are, since they're, in a way, controlling the flow and content of information about their split to the public."

While more details begin to leak from inside their now-defunct relationship, one expert explained that it's only a matter of time before even more specifics come out. "Holidays are always the time when celebs think they bury bad news, but those days are over," explained Rob Shuter, columnist for HuffPost Celebrity. "Now the news cycle is 24/7, 365 days a year. I'm sure over the next few weeks, we will all know exactly what went wrong."

Perry and Brand announced their split Friday, after one year of marriage. While Brand released a statement about the separation, as of press time, Perry had yet to speak about it.

What Does Hip-Hop Have In Store For 2012?

Posted: 02 Jan 2012 05:44 AM PST

Here's our rundown of the huge year ahead in hip-hop album releases, tours and new artists.
By Rob Markman

Photo: MTV News

The new year has just started and already 2012 is shaping up to be huge for hip-hop. Not only did Jay-Z hint that we'd be getting separate solo albums from him and Kanye West, Hov told MTV News that we just may get another Throne album. Will another tour follow?

Jay and Yeezy aren't the only ones gearing up for huge releases this year. Rick Ross, T.I., Nicki Minaj and Nas are all on deck to drop in 2012, and there rumors of an OutKast reunion — then again, there are always rumors of an OutKast reunion. What about Dr. Dre's Detox? Will 2012 be the year it finally drops?

Drake will begin his Club Paradise tour in February. What better way to bring his platinum-selling Take Care to life than by hitting the road, right? What about Diddy? Seems the Bad Boy head honcho is building his rap roster and looking to once again dominate with music. Can Machine Gun Kelly, Red Café and French Montana put the storied label back on top?

Only time will tell what the next 12 months will bring, but 2012 already seems to be filled with so much hip-hop promise.

Albums We're Looking Forward To
Hov released his last solo album, Blueprint III, in 2009, and quite frankly, going three years without a Jay solo feels like a crime. After captivating fans with his and Yeezy's WTT team-up, Jay told MTV News that he and 'Ye will not only drop separate solo LPs, but possibly a new Throne LP as well. Oh yeah, and who could forget Kanye's G.O.O.D. Music compilation?

T.I.'s Trouble Man should return the King of the South to his top spot, and Rick Ross will be looking to prove that his 2011 health scare couldn't slow him down with his upcoming God Forgives, I Don't. Nas may have scrapped the Life Is Good title for his 10th album, but based off of the LP's first single, "Nasty," MTV News has high hopes just the same. 50 Cent and Fabolous are both riding high off of their respective 2011 mixtape releases, so expect them both to be in album mode in the coming months.

Nicki Minaj and Wiz Khalifa will also look to prove that they can overcome the dreaded sophomore jinx with their respective albums, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded and O.N.I.F.C. Speaking of sophomore albums, can Eminem lend his Midas touch to the upcoming Slaughterhouse LP? Hell, we'll be happy as long as it's super-lyrical!

As far as Dr. Dre's Detox and OutKast's always-rumored reunion album, we can only hope.

Must-See Tours
For the most part, artists don't go announcing tours too far in advance, but fans have already begun looking forward to Drake's Club Paradise Tour, which begins on Valentine's Day in Miami.

With Nicki, Tyga and Lil Twist all scheduled to drop albums, is it too far-fetched to expect an all-YMCMB tour? Now that would be something.

The Rise of New Artists
It seems rap is breeding more new stars than ever before. Wiz Khalifa earned himself a gold debut, and his Rostrum Records labelmate Mac Miller snagged the #1 album with his first LP, Blue Slide Park. Big Sean and J. Cole took their mixtape grind to the major label, and Wale rejuvenated his career with his sophomore LP, Ambition.

Wale's Maybach Music partner-in-rhyme Meek Mill is set to drop his first album and capitalize off of his deafening street buzz, and MTV News' 2011 Hottest Breakthrough MC Machine Gun Kelly hopes that his deal on Bad Boy Records will enhance his cult fanbase.

Speaking of Bad Boy, Diddy seems to be building quite the roster. Can Red Café and the recently signed French Montana rekindle Puff's musical flame? You gotta stay tuned.

What hip-hop music are you looking forward to in 2012? Tell us in the comments!
