The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive

"Hollywood" isn't just the name of a Jay-Z song — Hov still wants to get into the movie biz. Before he retired for the first time about six years ago, Jay said one of the things he wanted to focus on after rapping was making movies. Well, obviously even when he was in "retirement," Jay never stopped rapping — it's in the man's DNA. Still, the Jiggaman told us he hasn't given up laying down a blueprint for success in Tinseltown.

"I do. I do," Jay insisted about whether he still wants to make movies in the future. "I'm taking my time. It may seem like it's taking forever, but when I do, it's gonna be something added to the genre. I just don't wanna do a couple movies and be gone. I want it to be something that's really important, so I'm taking my time with it. Hopefully when I arrive [in Hollywood], I can leave a footprint."

While movies are still a ways off, music is here in abundance. Jay's Blueprint 3 hits stores on September 11 with the lead cuts "Run This Town" and "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)." His song with Drake, "Off That," recently leaked.

The Streets Is Talking: News & Notes From the Underground

The Baddest Chick is back. Trina tells us she's dropping a new LP, Amazin, in 2010. The Miami starlet is getting an early jump on things with the release of her new single "It's My Attitude."

"It's the new anthem!" she boasted. "I think the record is what my fans have been missing from me. I just went in the studio like, 'I'm not playing around. It's all or nothing. Go hard or go home!' It's a real strong, sassy record and it has attitude. I wanted to come with a record that can bang in the clubs!"

Aubrey O'Day Wants To Get 'Gritty' On Her Reality Show

'I don't want to play a role to get ratings,' former Danity Kane singer says.

Just because her time on "Making the Band" has come to an end doesn't mean Aubrey O'Day is through with documenting her life on TV. The reality star is actually readying a new show that revolves around just her, but she's realizing that telling the truth while the cameras are rolling isn't as easy as it seemed the first time around.

"There's a lot of problems I'm having doing it, in the sense that everyone's really used to making 15-minutes-of-fame-type shows, shows that have train wrecks," she told MTV News about her show, which has yet to find a premiere date. "I don't want to play a role to get ratings."

This time around, O'Day wants to make a show on her own terms. "I don't want to make up story lines," she said. "We've made up enough story lines for 'Making the Band.' I want to make a reality show. I want to tell people the truth. I'm doing some gritty things."

O'Day, who is also hard at work prepping for her Las Vegas debut in "Peepshow," said she's already filmed some of the series and that the focus thus far has been on that new career path.

"My reality show just filmed the first few episodes when I went out to Vegas to announce my arrival at 'Peepshow,' and wow," she said. "It was quite an experience. Doing it on my own is a whole 'nother ballgame. It's about coming off that very public breakup, processing that and then moving on, and can I make it or is my 15 minutes up?"

September 13, the night of the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, was already shaping up to be a pretty busy evening for Beyoncé, who's nominated for a whopping nine Moonmen. Now, it's going to be even busier.

That's because B — who's up for Video of the Year and Best Female Video for her eye-popping, hip-shaking "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" clip — has just been added to the growing list of VMA performers, too.

Beyoncé will take the stage to sing "Sweet Dreams," the latest single off her multi-platinum I Am ... Sasha Fierce album. She joins the likes of husband Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Green Day, Pink and Muse, all of whom have also been confirmed as performers at the '09 VMAs.

This will mark the third time the real-life Sasha Fierce has performed at the show. In 2003, she shared the stage with Jay for "Crazy in Love." Then in 2006, she brought the house down with a fiery version of her single "Ring the Alarm."

Also, while the big show is taking place, there's going to be plenty happening on MTV.com too. That's where we'll exclusively unveil Death Cab for Cutie's "Meet Me on the Equinox," which has just been tapped as the first single off the "New Moon" soundtrack, which hits stores on October 20.

And if that isn't enough VMA news we've got for you, it's also been confirmed that up-and-coming rapper Wale and the legendary Washington, D.C., go-go band UCB will serve as the official house band for the night. As his work with Lady Gaga on the song "Chillin' " proves, Wale is no stranger to collaborations, so he should feel right at home when he joins forces with the All-American Rejects, Pitbull and 3OH!3 to perform versions of the year's biggest hits.

The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards will take place September 13 at 9 p.m. ET. Additional celebrity presenters and performers will be announced in the coming weeks. To be the first to find out the inside scoop, follow the Inside MTV Twitter account at Twitter.com/InsideMTV.

Heidi And Spencer To Contemplate Kids On 'The Hills'

Stephanie Pratt says Heidi Montag has 'baby fever' too soon.

Slowly but surely, fans are starting to get a sense of what a Lauren Conrad-free "Hills" is going to be like when the show comes back on September 29. And, it seems like things are really about to go crazy this season.

This time, we're not just talking about the trouble Kristin Cavallari will stir up when she joins the cast. There are also some murmurs out there that newlyweds Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are looking to start a family. "Hills" exec producer Liz Gateley recently told People that Speidi might be thinking about kids, and Stephanie Pratt confirmed to MTV News that this is a distinct possibility.

"Heidi is the one with the baby fever; Spencer is not," Pratt said, adding that she doesn't think the couple is ready for kids yet. "They're looking for a house."

Heidi may have caught the baby fever from hanging around with Stephanie and Spencer's nieces, Stephanie speculated. Or she may have happened on the idea at her local bookstore.

"Here's the deal: Basically, Heidi got married; [then] she's like, 'Oh my God, what do I do?' " Stephanie explained. "She's like, 'Thank you, God, for my marriage. What do I do?' I really feel like she went to a bookstore and saw 'Newlyweds: The Wife's Edition,' and so now she's like, 'I still want to get a house with a white picket fence. ... and then probably a dog, and then we'll move on to kids. And I want to take cooking lessons.' "

But Stephanie keeps trying to convince her 22-year-old sister-in-law that this doesn't need to be the case. "I'm like, 'You don't have to do that,' " she said. "I keep telling her, 'You don't have to get a dog [either].' A dog is a kid. They're just too busy."

Young Jeezy Wants To Make His Own 'Hood's Hottest MCs List

'Some people wanna be a lyricist. Me, I wanna be real,' Jeezy says of his potential placement on our list of 2009 Hottest MCs in the Game.

The Snowman can bring the heat in any weather. Young Jeezy has been consistently showing his pull with the fans on Young Money Presents: The America's Most Wanted Music Festival, keeping spectators on their feet throughout his set with not just his own music, but by showing off with fellow celebrities. LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, E-40 and others have come out onstage to show love to Jeezy throughout his visits to different states. The Recession was one of the best-received albums of 2008 ... heck, "My President" alone makes the LP a must-have. The Atlanta king is street credible, has swag — excuse us, Mr. Jeezy, savoir faire — for days, but is it enough to get him on the 2009 Hottest MCs list? If he does make it, should he be top five? So much to debate. (To see what it takes to make the list, check out our Hottest MCs criteria.)

Young recently told us he has his own ideas for the Hottest MCs list, saying that we should make a 'Hood's Hottest MCs list of the realest street cats in the game. He would even like to sit down with some of his rap friends and make up a list.

"Even with me, when y'all first put in the bracket, some people think different," he explained. "Some people wanna be a lyricist. Me, I wanna be real. It's gotta be different categories."

Jeezy does agree you could be real and not be hot.

"You can," Young noted. "There's a lot of cats that do. You gotta get that list though. There's a lot of cats underground you might not even know about that everybody listens to."

Jeezy also notes that when the MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust makes their Hottest list, they shouldn't include legends against some of the younger artists.

"You shouldn't put a Nas on there. Or a KRS-One. That's crazy to put those cats in the same category. They think differently. That's why we should do mine. ... It's gonna cause more controversy than you think. People gonna be calling being like, 'He ain't really like that.' "

Exclusive: 'New Moon' Song By Death Cab For Cutie To Be Unveiled On MTV.com September 13

DCFC bassist Nick Harmer talks about 'Meet Me on the Equinox,' to premiere on Video Music Awards day.

Death Cab for Cutie's contribution to the "New Moon" soundtrack, "Meet Me on the Equinox," will premiere on MTV.com on September 13, the day of the Video Music Awards.

In an exclusive interview with MTV News, DCFC bassist Nick Harmer talked about the song — which will be the lead single from the second film in the "Twilight" series — and the mysterious way it ended up on the most-anticipated soundtrack of the year.

"We didn't expect it would be chosen for the first single — we were thinking it would be a part of the soundtrack, maybe," Harmer laughed. "I have no idea if ['Twilight' author] Stephenie Meyer approved it or what. It's been an exciting process, because we've been so removed from it. We were in L.A. for a week and we went into the studio and wrote and recorded the song and submitted it. We didn't know where anything stood, and then we just got a call last week like, 'Guess what — your song has been chosen as the first single.' "

Harmer is the first to admit that Death Cab and "Twilight" seem like an unusual pairing (only guitarist/producer Chris Walla has read the entire series), but upon closer inspection, they actually have plenty in common: most of which has to do with geography and, of course, matters of the heart.

"The big connection for us is 'Here's a wildly popular book series about vampires — which are awesome — set in the Northwest,' and we happen to be from the Northwest as well, so there's this sort of hometown pride kind of thing going on," Harmer said. "I'm kind of happy that Stephenie Meyer put Forks, Washington, on the map for the entire globe.

"I think that a lot of our songs in general concern a lot of the things the main characters in the books are going through: There's a lot of stuff about relationships beginning and ending, and the questioning that happens around being in love and falling out of love," he continued. "That's a comfort zone for us, so a lot of the lyrical content [frontman] Ben [Gibbard] writes also happens to line up with what the characters are going through in the film. Basically the 'Twilight' series is about love, and that's a major theme for us. So, it wasn't difficult for us at all."

As for the song itself, Harmer describes it as "pretty dark and brooding, lyrically," and though it was written specifically for the "New Moon" film, don't expect it to vary much from the Death Cab formula.

"I'm pretty sure Ben didn't try to write a song from the perspective of one of the characters from the novel. The emotional stuff is what he homed in on, because that's what we do," he said. "It's an uptempo song ... it fits right into the Death Cab canon. The lyrics are darker and brooding, the music is a little more up. I don't know if it's a rock song ... when you hear it, you'll think, 'Yep, that's a Death Cab song.' "

Paramore's Hayley Williams On Baby Rumors: 'Just Call Me Octomom'

'What is this, the 10th time?' frontwoman says of renewed pregnancy talk.
By James Montgomery

It's basically become an annual tradition at this point: Some blog publishes a rumor that Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams is pregnant and that said pregnancy will somehow lead to the implosion of her band.

Last year, there were the whispers that Williams was having a baby and, as a result, Paramore were calling it quits. Things got so out-of-hand that Williams was forced to deny the rumors on Paramore's official site, writing a lengthy post that included the sentence "For the record, my Eggo is not preggo."

Now, with a new record and a headlining tour on the horizon, those rumors are back again.

On Wednesday, a blog called Rock On: Altitude — which promotes a mobile media channel of the same name — published a piece with the headline "Is Hayley Williams of Paramore Pregnant" (no question mark necessary, apparently). In it, they write, "Just when the big headlining tour has been announced, now comes word from the rumor mill that ... Williams is actually pregnant!"

The post fails to mention where these rumors were started (or being propagated, for that matter), but promises readers they'll keep them up to date on the situation, concluding with, "Stay tuned for details, and if this big tour suddenly gets 'postponed,' we'll know the real reason why."

Somewhat understandably, the post irked Williams, who took to her Twitter account (a luxury she did not have in previous years) to address the report. "What is this, the 10th time?" she wrote, linking to the Rock On story. "Just call me 'Octomom.' "

An hour later, in a second tweet, she poked fun at the rumor again. "Been staying up too late, so I took a Tylenol PM to knock myself up — I mean OUT," she wrote. "I am so sleepy. Goodnight world!"

That was apparently all she had to say about the matter, as she's since taken to tweeting about episodes of "True Blood" (she's a Sookie fan) and letting fans know that she likes Greek food (you hear that, Nick Neofitidis?).

MTV News attempted to contact the site through its parent company, GoTV, but at press time, those attempts had proved unsuccessful.

Who Had The Hottest Verse: Eminem, Lil Wayne, Drake Or Kanye West?

We debate the MCs joining forces for the 'Forever' collabo, in Off the Dome.

Why do we do it? Tell' em that it's human nature (shout-out to Mike the Greatest). As hip-hop fans, when we hear a rap posse cut — especially a huge rap posse cut — we have to sit down and assess who had the best verse. It's just what we do.

Remember bickering if it was Big Daddy Kane over Kool G Rap on "The Symphony"? And you, yes you, swore up and down that nobody could measure up to Notorious B.I.G.'s lead-off verse on "The Points" about a decade ago. More recently, it was the "Swagga Like Us" debate — my personal favorite on that record was Kanye West. Now we move to "Forever": Drake, Eminem, Lil Wayne and Kanye West. That lineup is impeccable.

"Forever," like "Swagga," is especially impressive because it came about without any prior warning. No Twitter updates from the studio session — just a little heads-up from Mack Maine and boom, the song appeared. As promised, myself and my always-trusted partner Rahman Dukes sat down and came up with our picks of who stole the show. Also as promised, we brought in the third member of the 1515 Boys, Jayson Rodriguez, to share his opinion.

As for me personally, I was surprised by Eminem. I said it. Slim Shady has been real quiet (except that Mariah Carey dis) since Relapse dropped. But he came back with a vengeance, using a machine-gun flow to have the hottest appearance on the record in my opinion. What do Rahman and Jayson have to say about this? They're not co-signing me this time. And don't forget to tell us what you think in the comments section.

Christina Milian Explains Significance Of Album Title, Elope

Christina Milian may be bringing it on in her new flick, but the singer/actress is also hard at work on her music career as well. Milian couldn't be more excited for her forthcoming album, Elope. She hopes to have it out by the end of the year — but if you're expecting any more info on its release date, you'd better ask someone else.

"I'm excited. I'm, like, waiting forever, like, 'When does the single come out?' " she jokingly told MTV News. "I don't even know."

She was even unsure of the title of the album, which she worked on with her real-life love and fiancé, The Dream. "It's called Elope right now. Who knows, knowing me — I'm changing constantly," she offered. "But it's called Elope. I did it with The-Dream and Tricky Stewart.

"I'm really excited. It's [about] a young female growing into a woman, and it's very honest. The album's fun, so I'm looking forward to performing it."

She explained that the projected album title does reflect events in her own life, just not in the way that you might think.

"Actually, the name change came ... I don't know if I was engaged yet, but it really didn't have anything to do with it — more so about taking a step as a woman and making decisions on my own and doing things without necessarily the permissions of others. And I think that's really more about adulthood and coming into adulthood," she explained. "I think that's where we came up with that one."

John Mayer Mug Shot Leads To Media Tussle

Singer offered to donate $25,000 to charity if TMZ found photo from 2001, but Smoking Gun apparently beat them to the punch.

It's not often that you hear about celebrities getting playful with their mug shots, but it's just been that kind of week. John Mayer's mug shot from 2001 has become the subject of a rather bizarre media tussle.

It all started earlier this week, when Fall Out Boy singer Patrick Stump was arrested in Los Angeles for driving without a valid license, and his mug shot made the rounds. In apparent commiseration, John Mayer took to Twitter and revealed that back in 2001 he was arrested for the same offense as Stump, noting that "It's the lamest answer to the question 'why you in here?' " He then took it a step further by tweeting:

"Challenge: if Harvey Levin at TMZ can produce my mug shot, I will donate 25k to the charity of his choice."

TMZ then said the Mayer mug shot was "on its way." However, at 3:03 p.m. on Thursday (August 27) TheSmokingGun.com beat TMZ to the punch, claiming to have found the photo first:

"While he technically made this offer, via Twitter, to the gossip site TMZ, we figured it applied to any other bounty hunters. Like The Smoking Gun, for example. So, as seen below, here's Mayer's mug shot. The photo was snapped after the performer was collared by Georgia cops in May 2001 for speeding and driving without a license. To those keeping score, TSG was the first site to post Mayer's mug shot, which we did today at 3:03 PM."

TMZ.com also claims to have been the first Web site to locate the picture, also claiming to have posted the photo at 3:03 p.m.

Several minutes later, TheSmokingGun.com updated its entry with the following addendum:

"A post to our Twitter page (tsgnews) noting that 'Mayer owes us $25,000' was also made at 3:03 p.m. For its part, TMZ posted the photo at 3:10 p.m., with the site's customary 'EXCLUSIVE' claim. While the TMZ item carries a backdated 'posted' time of 3:03 p.m., a check of the item's comments section shows that the first comment was recorded at, not surprisingly, 3:10 p.m., moments after the photo appeared on the gossip site. Both sites received the image from Ashanti Moore, an administrative assistant with the Atlanta Department of Corrections, who e-mailed the photo to TMZ (but only after it first appeared on TSG)."

So what does a 2001 mug shot of John Mayer mean? A lot to a charity, if Mayer comes through with his pledge!

A rep for Mayer had no comment when contacted by MTV News about the matter.
