Remember when Britney Spears and Madonna kissed at the 2003 VMAs and it felt like some ceremonial passing of the pop-queen crown? Well, in some ways, that's sort of how it was when Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus took the stage together at the Teen Choice Awards — just minus the liplock.

Cyrus presented Spears with the Ultimate Choice Award at the show and before the two pop princesses hit the stage, she spoke to MTV News about how excited she was to finally be sharing the stage with her idol. "I'm doing something special with her tonight," Cyrus told MTV News on the red carpet.

Cyrus further explained that in addition to pairing up for the awards show, the girls have known each other and have been friendly for quite a while.

"She's a good friend of the family," Cyrus, who also performed her new single, "Party in the USA," said. "So I'm just happy to finally be able to really show everyone that she's back and she never went anywhere."

In addition to both Miley and Britney finding success at a young age, Miley was quick to point out that the two, who are about 11 years apart in age, also share a common ground in terms of their upbringing. "I love how successful her music is doing right now and [I am] just proud of her," she said. "You know, another Southern girl ... I love that."

Joe Budden Wants Jay-Z And Eminem To Top 2009 Hottest MCs List

The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive

Please forgive us — no main pick on Monday, and now an abbreviated version of Don't Sleep.

Don't fret! We're going to be coming back so hard next week with Slaughterhouse. The four-man crew (Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I and Royce Da 5'9") came through, and not only talked about their debut group LP in stores right now, but also weighed in our 2009 Hottest MCs in the Game list.

All four need to be included in the conversation, because of their ferocious lyricism and loyal following. But who do the fellas think should make the list besides themselves?

"I can't front — the young boy Drake is spitting," Joell Ortiz said. "I'm interested in seeing where he goes with his career. Just aside from singing, the dude can rap. I wanna see what he does too. Bun B too. Shout-out to Bun B."

Joe Budden was less forthcoming when talking about who he thought was superior on the mic.

"These n---as that's dope, they don't need the sh-- to be confirmed," he said. "They don't need my confirmation. They know they're dope. Stay in your lane. ... I ain't shouting nobody out. It's dope n---as out there. We're dope. It's other dope n---as out there. I ain't shouting n---as out though."

Joe eventually changed his mind, picking the same two guys Crooked I had mentioned just a few minutes before him: Eminem and Jay-Z.

"Jay and Em is still at the top, and that's it. Everybody else is trying to reach out. I love Blu. Blu, and I still love [Kool] G Rap. It's a million n---as to name. Jay right now, at his age, is still better than n---as. But when you write that hottest list, you're not gonna put Jay and Em at 1 and 2. You're not. Don't lie to me and say you are. Don't insult my intelligence. In 2009, you're not gonna put Jay and Em 1 and 2 on your list. You can bet me money.

"I like T.I., Fabolous, I just like dudes who can spit," Joe added. "I didn't look for too much else."

Don't Sleep: Necessary Notables

Mixtape: The Network

Headliner: Young Chris

Co-Starring: DJ Don Cannon

Key Collaborations: "Free Peedi" with Beanie Sigel and Tu Phace; "Last 2" with Beanie Sigel and Freeway; and "Hot Sh--" with Peedi Crakk, Black Thought, Tu Phace and Wale

Essential Info: "The labels are calling. We done created some bidding wars," Young Chris said last week, strolling in Times Square.

Chris is still down with Jay-Z. He wears his Roc-A-Fella chain faithfully, while awaiting a new deal to distribute his records.

"I ain't drop a mixtape since 30 Days, 30 Verses," Chris explained of his much-talked-about street release last year. "I ain't put out a tape all year. I needed to put something out. The 30 Days, 30 Verses held me over for a few months."

Chris' The Network just came out with DJ Don Cannon hosting.

"It stuck with me because of the Internet, and that's just me. I work with everybody," he said of the tape's title. "I'm a networking person. I started working on it immediately. The Asher Roth beat [for] 'Class of My Own,' shot a video to it. I did the Drake 'Successful' beat. Cool, put it out. Then I came, and I said, 'I want to do all originals.' I reached out to 9th Wonder. He sent me a few records. [So did] Chad West and Green Lantern."

Green produced "Superflyness." "I went to the studio with him, he liked my work ethic," Chris recalled. "I told him, 'Don't be biased. If you don't like it, I'll start from scratch.' Then I have 'Last 2,' one of my favorites on The Network. Freeway came through. We did a live stream in the studio. The whole world watched us do it — no pen, no pad. Two days later, I ran into Beanie Sigel. I told him, 'I need you to anchor it.' "

Is 50 Cent One Of The Hottest MCs In The Game?

Will Fif earn a place on our 2009 list? Keep checking MTVNews.com to find out.

The debate is on. Readers and hip-hop fans made their voices heard on the heels of the announcement that the list of 2009's Hottest MCs in the Game is coming soon. On August 17, we'll start revealing the names, starting with #10 and continuing with #9 through #6 from August 18-21. The remaining five names will be shown during the episode of "Making His Band" on August 24.

Thousands have participated in our poll, telling us their choices for hottest MC, with a few hundred leaving comments, justifying different picks and predicting who the MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust will place on their list. One of the top vote-getters was 50 Cent. The G-Unit General doesn't flood the guest appearances and he hasn't put out a solo LP since 2007's Curtis, but Fif has been very active on the mixtape circuit. This summer alone he's put out the War Angel LP and Forever King — but will that be enough to earn a place on the list? You'll find out shortly. Fif himself told Mixtape Daily that he wouldn't mind getting some accolades — but he doesn't expect them.

"I made a mistake," Fif said recently in New York City. "Early on [in my career], I said, 'They'll get the trophy, I'll get the checks.' That's because I wasn't receiving the acknowledgement based on the aggressive content I was putting out. I've been nominated for 16 Grammy awards and still ain't got no trophies. Largest debut in hip-hop to date — they just ignored it when it was time to give the trophies out. So I just started saying, 'They can have the trophies and I'll have the checks.' That didn't mean that I didn't have love for the actual art form. But to give a basic answer that people would understand, I would be secure with my life, I'll continue make music, but I won't be in front of them and get recognized. I'll get a lifetime-achievement award after based on my full body of work. At that point, it'll be too much for them to ignore."

The debate over who is the hottest MC of 2009 is on! Cast your vote now — series begins August 17, with the top MC being revealed on the August 24 episode of "Making His Band" at 10:00 p.m. ET!

Kris Allen Is 'Sad' Paula Abdul Is Leaving 'American Idol'

You would think, what with him being the reigning "American Idol" champ and all, that Kris Allen would have been given some sort of super-secret debriefing about Paula Abdul's shocking departure from the show. But you'd be wrong.

Seems Allen — and the rest of his fellow "Idol" contestants — found out just like you and I: They read the news on Abdul's Twitter account.

"I heard about it on Twitter, and I think it's sad, you know? Paula's been a part of the show for a long time, since the beginning, and I think the show will miss her, I really do," he told MTV News on Monday. "But the show will go on, for sure. I think it will still do great, and Paula will do great things too."

Allen agreed with "Idol" alum Brooke White's assertions that Abdul's positivity and willingness to work with contestants was what the show will miss the most. And he sees her applying those qualities to whatever she does next, whether it's a return to music or a move to another television show.

"She did that song ['I'm Just Here For The Music'] on the show, so maybe she'll go back into music," he said. "She's probably got some shows of her own, too, so she might go back to that."

When Allen first learned about Abdul's departure, he was backstage at the American Idols Live! tour — and the news quickly spread to his fellow contestants. So who took the news the hardest?

"Probably Danny [Gokey] or Matt [Giraud]," Allen said. "Paula loved Danny, but who doesn't love Danny?"

"Good Girls Go Bad" has become the inescapable song of the summer, and the overwhelming success of Cobra Starship's collaboration with "Gossip Girl" star Leighton Meester is most surprising to the actress herself.

"The Cobra Starship song has been amazing," she told MTV News backstage at the Teen Choice Awards, where Meester won for Choice TV Actress: Drama and her show won for Choice TV: Drama. "That's been working out really well."

The song — from Cobra Starship's latest album, Hot Mess, out Tuesday (August 11) — has won over radio DJs and fans alike and also finds itself up for two Video Music Awards: Best Pop Video and Best Direction.

"I know that they're really happy, and we're nominated for a couple VMAs," Meester said.

But the actress, who is spending her time away from the music world shooting the next season of "Gossip Girl," admitted that neither she nor the band had any idea if anyone would like the song. "I just liked the song," she explained. "That's why we did it. We liked the song, and it just became this wonderful thing, so I'm excited."

Not only is Meester featured on the Cobra Starship track, but she's also hard at work on her own solo album, which she hopes to have out by November. "[My music] is very electric, a little bit trippy," she said. "It's [got] a good vibe."

'Twilight' actress' rep tells MTV News that leaked pictures 'are illegal and are being unlawfully displayed.'

It looks like "Twilight" star Ashley Greene is the latest starlet caught up in a nude-photo scandal. After Perez Hilton posted naked pictures that appeared to be of Greene, her rep stepped in and released a statement.

"The photos in question, which appear to be of our client, are illegal and are being unlawfully displayed," her rep told MTV News in a statement Monday (August 10). "Our client intends to take legal action."

Although the statement doesn't confirm whether the photos are of Greene, they have since been taken off Perez Hilton's Web site and replaced with the following statement: "The nude images have been removed from PerezHilton.com at the request of Greene's attorneys."

Greene made a splash at the Teen Choice Awards, where the "Twilight" crew won 11 awards. Greene was singled out as Choice Fresh Face Female and called her win "incredible."

Before the photos hit the Web, everyone was talking about another picture of Greene apparently kissing "Gossip Girl" star Chace Crawford. TMZ reported that the pair had been hanging out for a while, but up until the picture, taken early Monday, had kept the relationship on the down low.

At the Teen Choice Awards, it was another starlet who was making all the headlines for her photo scandal, after comedian Dane Cook poked fun at Vanessa Hudgens for her photos leaked last week, as well as in 2007. "Girl, you gots to keep your clothes on!" he said during the show. "Phones are for phone calls, girl."

Media mogul talks about her interview with Jay on Gayle King's radio show.

Looks like Jay-Z made a new fan during his sit-down with Oprah Winfrey over the weekend.

The media mogul phoned in to best friend Gayle King's satellite radio show on Monday (August 10) and gushed about her time with the iconic rapper.

"Oh, Jay-Z, my new best friend," Oprah told King.

Winfrey had long been critical of hip-hop, but in recent years she's opened up to inviting rappers, including Common and Ludacris, appear on her show.

On Sunday, Winfrey and Jay-Z ventured to the rapper's native Marcy Projects in Brooklyn, New York. The pair surprised many as they reportedly sat down on the front steps of his grandmother's old building. Winfrey said she doesn't agree with all of Jay-Z's music, but she took a liking to him as a person.

The media mogul was smitten, King teased.

"He was so charming and delightful, and he smelled so good," Winfrey said. "And it's that kind of thing where you hug a guy, and the scent is sort of buried in them. When we went to the second location, I could still smell him on me. It was like, 'Oh, this is wonderful.' "

Winfrey said that her interview with Hov would be for her magazine, O, though she didn't disclose which issue the piece would be for or what topics they discussed. She said the two-hour interview delved into Jay-Z, the person, and was more appropriate for a magazine piece as opposed to television, which has to be interrupted for commercials.

"It was really a conversation, and at the end of the day, you feel like you get to know someone," she said. "I feel like I met a new friend. It was really great."

Young Buck Buries Beef, Thanks 50 Cent

Former G-Unit member admits, 'Maybe I got out of pocket a little bit.'
By Jayson Rodriguez

First, the Game attempts to make nice with 50 Cent and G-Unit, apologizing to estranged former crew recently for his behavior. Now, is fellow former G-Unit member Young Buck getting in on the act?

Not quite. But the Tennessee rap titan, who was ejected from G-Unit last year, is making amends. In a video interview that circulated online over the weekend, Buck said he's set to refocus on his music career, and his reemergence won't include any barbs at his old boss.

In fact, like the Game, Buck thanked 50 for giving him his big break.

"My whole strategy for coming back and f---ing with this rap sh-- is the total opposite of what people think I'm gonna do," he said. "I think a lot of motherf-----s think I'mma come out, beef with 50 and holler 'F--- G-Unit!' and all that. I'm not even looking to do it like that. I'm looking to make straight, good music, and do my thing through the music. Win from the hits itself. 'Cause that other sh-- ain't about nothing."

MTV News request for comment to Young Buck's camp had not been granted at press time.

The Southern lyricist said he hopes to forge forward with his own brand. In the past he signed former 2Pac affiliates the Outlawz to his Cashville label. Although he was signed to 50 Cent's G-Unit Records, Buck never hid his desire to branch out.

"I'd rather get out here and establish Buck," he continued. " 'Cause everybody establishes themselves. 50 Cent established 50 Cent. 50 Cent established G-Unit. I thank 50 Cent for what he did, giving me the opportunity to establish my talent on a boss base, where I was able to get myself heard on an international level."

Although Buck downplayed any issues he had with his former crew, he did admit his role in getting himself kicked out of G-Unit. Buck performed with or reconciled with Lil Wayne, Jadakiss and Game on separate occasions, angering 50, who at the time was engaged in battles with each camp. The moves eventually led to Buck's ouster.

"Maybe I got out of pocket a little bit," he said. "Because I played a part in it, too. So I can't sit here and act like I never did sh--. I played just as much a part in it as anyone I was with, whether it was 50 or [Lloyd] Banks or [Tony] Yayo, beefing with someone unnecessarily. They had a reason at the time, but when it was all said and done, no one got shot. And nothing came from it."

When Dane Cook took the stage to present Megan Fox and Robert Pattinson with the Choice Hotties award at the Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night, the comedian decided he should be the man to address Vanessa Hudgens' most recent round of nude photos, which hit the Internet last week.

"Before I do the Choice Hotties, can I just say what everybody in the room is thinking but nobody has said?" he announced to the audience, before scanning it to find "Bandslam" star Vanessa Hudgens, who was one of the nominees for Choice Hottie. Hudgens then half-heartedly raised her hand, looking like she knew or was fearing what was going to happen next.

"Girl, you gots to keep your clothes on! Phones are for phone calls, girl," he told the "High School Musical" star, who didn't seem very amused, judging by her reaction to his joke.

Without addressing it further, Cook then went into his presenting duties. Hudgens lost out on being one of the choice hotties of the night to Megan Fox and Robert Pattinson. When both Pattinson and Fox won, they thanked their fans for the honor.

"I have to say that the hottest hottie, that hottest teens are the Twilight fans," Pattinson said about winning. "And thank you to Stephenie Meyer and the usuals."

While Hudgens' reps have not commented on the photos, they are reportedly several years old and were taken before her 2007 nude-photo scandal.

The Teen Choice Awards air on Fox Monday night (August 10) at 8 p.m. ET.

The "Hottest MCs in the Game" is back! It's highly regarded, extremely controversial and bolder than ever. We're proud to announce that starting next Monday (August 17), we'll begin to reveal our list of hip-hop's top 10 kings of 2009 on MTVNews.com. This one is going to be a doozy!

As always, the MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust has been keeping a close collective eye and ear to the game. We've been watching who's been moving the needle on the culture, who has impacted the game with superior skill, unmatched style and uncannily superior execution with their art and business. It's not just music — it's about a movement. The Brain Trust sequestered ourselves and deliberated a ranking, and the results will begin to be revealed next week — with the unveiling of the top spot happening on Diddy's "Making His Band" airing August 24 at 10 p.m.

For the MCs who think they belong on the list, ask yourselves the same questions the Brain Trust members ask themselves: Has your heat been sustaining? You can't just be hot in your 'hood or in your region. Does your reach go national — and international? Can you set the globe on fire?

Last year, thousands and thousands joined in on the conversation we first sparked in 2007. Last year was Kanye West's time: He took the crown from the champ of two years ago, Lil Wayne. 'Ye killed guest spots such as Young Jeezy's "Put On," and his Graduation was the opus of its time.

In 2009, we want you to put up and definitely not shut up. Let your frustrations or your props be heard. Each time we reveal another pick on our list, comment on it. Send e-mails, send video — we're going to put lots of it out there. And today, blast off! We want you to start sending in your lists — but be sure you're talking about the Hottest MC right now, not of all time (we already gave Jay-Z that trophy a couple of years back). There's a poll below with names of certain selected MCs: All you have to pick the name you feel is the hottest right now. The results will be tabulated. So get to it!

Don't agree with our selections? Did we exclude one of your favorites? Let us know in the comments below!

The debate over who is the hottest MC of 2009 is on! Cast your vote now — series begins August 17, with the top MC being revealed on the August 24 episode of "Making His Band" at 10:00 p.m. ET!
