The "Hottest MCs in the Game" is back! It's highly regarded, extremely controversial and bolder than ever. We're proud to announce that starting next Monday (August 17), we'll begin to reveal our list of hip-hop's top 10 kings of 2009 on MTVNews.com. This one is going to be a doozy!

As always, the MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust has been keeping a close collective eye and ear to the game. We've been watching who's been moving the needle on the culture, who has impacted the game with superior skill, unmatched style and uncannily superior execution with their art and business. It's not just music — it's about a movement. The Brain Trust sequestered ourselves and deliberated a ranking, and the results will begin to be revealed next week — with the unveiling of the top spot happening on Diddy's "Making His Band" airing August 24 at 10 p.m.

For the MCs who think they belong on the list, ask yourselves the same questions the Brain Trust members ask themselves: Has your heat been sustaining? You can't just be hot in your 'hood or in your region. Does your reach go national — and international? Can you set the globe on fire?

Last year, thousands and thousands joined in on the conversation we first sparked in 2007. Last year was Kanye West's time: He took the crown from the champ of two years ago, Lil Wayne. 'Ye killed guest spots such as Young Jeezy's "Put On," and his Graduation was the opus of its time.

In 2009, we want you to put up and definitely not shut up. Let your frustrations or your props be heard. Each time we reveal another pick on our list, comment on it. Send e-mails, send video — we're going to put lots of it out there. And today, blast off! We want you to start sending in your lists — but be sure you're talking about the Hottest MC right now, not of all time (we already gave Jay-Z that trophy a couple of years back). There's a poll below with names of certain selected MCs: All you have to pick the name you feel is the hottest right now. The results will be tabulated. So get to it!

Who is the Hottest MC in the Game right now?

Don't agree with our selections? Did we exclude one of your favorites? Let us know in the comments below!

The debate over who is the hottest MC of 2009 is on! Cast your vote now — series begins August 17, with the top MC being revealed on the August 24 episode of "Making His Band" at 10:00 p.m. ET!

Shock to the heart. No Main Pick today. We decided to fall back in order to make our grand announcement that we start rolling out picks for the 2009 Hottest MCs in the Game on Monday, August 17. Get on point, get your arguments ready — we look forward to hearing from you about our picks.

Mixtape Daily still goes, though. Today, Lil Wayne's gorgeous It girl, Nicki Minaj, makes her return to these parts. She has a few stories to share about her and the crew getting down onstage and off and what they've been cooking up in the studio.

The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive

Nicki Minaj and Drake roll like brothers and sisters. So it was no surprise when Nicki told us about a playful spat they had on tour at the Young Money Presents: America's Most Wanted Music Festival.

"Actually I think Drake is wack and I don't think he deserves [his accolades]," she joked. "I'm sorry. We just had a fight in the back. I was about to punch him dead in his face. [One of his mangers] Cortez intervened."

Minaj got a little more serious, clarifying that she and Drake do not have any gripes with one another. They are thick as thieves.

"We're super-close," she explained. "Before all of this started, I would tell him, 'You're a star.' And he'd be like, 'You're a star.' And we'd kinda been each other's biggest fans. To see his dreams come into fruition, it makes me very happy. And my mentor is the great Lil Wayne. I have great influences around me right now. I'm looking to raise the bar and not let them down."

Nicki's one of the featured acts on Lil Wayne's Young Money family album, dropping the same day as his solo LP The Rebirth on November 24. Minaj already has a few favorite tracks.

"There's a song called 'Girl You Know,' " she revealed. "I'm just gonna say the Barbie dolls are gonna love it. I think Omarion is on that one. Of course, Tyga, [Jae] Millz and Drake, Gudda Gudda, Wayne. It was so well put together. I think that's gonna be a big one. We have another one called 'Young Money' salute. Not sure if that one's gonna become a single, but it's real spittin'. It brings us back to times when he had teams that where invincible, like the Bad Boy movement, the Cash Money movement."

UNIVERSAL CITY, California —; The teens have once again spoken, and their favorites seem to be "Twilight," Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus and "Gossip Girl." There were 83 Million votes cast for the 2009 Teen Choice Awards, and as the results were unveiled Sunday night (August 9), it was a meeting of many big, beautiful, bizarrely matched superstars at the Gibson Amphitheatre.

The evening was hosted by the Jonas Brothers, who began the festivities by "interrupting" a Barack Obama press conference, then took dares from fans (who gave them such challenges as speed-hugging a line of fans — Kim Kardashian cut in near the end) and also rocked out with a full brass backing band. Highlights of the evening included "Twilight" winning 11 awards and Britney receiving the Ultimate Choice Award.

"This is an honor, you've got to love the teens. We're here because of them," beamed Chace Crawford, moments before heading inside to take home the Choice TV Actor: Drama award for "Gossip Girl." "I don't know what I would say to Britney Spears. Hopefully, I'll bump into her."

"Wow, I would need to think about what I would say to her," laughed Taylor Lautner, finally revealing what he'd ask the superstar if stuck on an elevator with Britney: "So, what are you doing tonight?"

Moments before the taping began, Britney and her entourage had the backstage swag shop emptied so she could pick up some goodies. Britney parked her kids in front of the "Band Hero" video game, where they banged away on the instruments while she snagged free sneakers, hats and other items.

Once inside, the awards were presented fast and furious. Lautner, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Justin Chon, Robert Pattinson, Nikki Reed, Jackson Rathbone and Catherine Hardwicke took the stage and braved the shrieks to take home surfboard trophies for Best Drama, Romance, Actor (Pattinson), Actress (Stewart), Villain (Cam Gigandet), Fresh Face Female (Greene), Fresh Face Male (Lautner), Liplock (Stewart and Pattinson) and Rumble (Pattinson and Gigandet). Another highlight came when RPattz and Megan Fox came onstage together to accept their matching Hottie awards.

"I'm doing something special with her tonight," Miley Cyrus told us before the show of the night's biggest moment, when she presented Britney with her Ultimate Choice Award. "She's a good friend of the family, so I'm just happy to finally show everyone that she's back, and she never went anywhere. She's had a successful career, I'm proud of her — and both of us being Southern girls, I love that."

Hugh Jackman was presented with the award for Choice Movie: Action Adventure in a way we can safely assume no one ever has before: by getting his face tattooed on a Jonas Brother. "They had a little challenge to Kevin, one of the Jonas brothers, to tattoo the winner of the award on his arm. So, they announced it by showing the tattoo," Jackman grinned backstage, promising that the award for "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" only made him more resolved to return the character to the screen soon. "I thought that was pretty good work for one commercial break — that was probably the quickest tattoo in the history of the world! But it was a good way to get it. And particularly good for me for my street cred, because my kids like the Jonas Brothers — and just be being near them, that's all that matters."

Other big winners included Zac Efron (Actor Comedy, "17 Again" and Actor Music/Dance, "HSM3"), "The Hills" (Choice TV: Reality, and Female Reality, Lauren Conrad) and Beyoncé (Choice Music R&B Artist and R& BTrack for "Single Ladies"). Sean Kingston stole the show with a memorable performance, as did Black Eyed Peas — who surfed above the crowd.

"We just wanted to try something different," Taboo told us after the show. "Flying in the air over the crowd? I was scared. But it was exciting; we got the opportunity to do something different. It was great."

"We had a fantastic night. We pulled in 11 — that was amazing," marveled Jackson Rathbone after the show, reflecting back on all the "Twilight" triumphs. "I got to sit next to my Ashley Greene, and she won 'Fresh Face,' along with Taylor. It was amazing to have everything go the way it did."

"The universe didn't explode — like some people may have thought — if the two of them came in contact," laughed Miley's "Hannah Montana" co-star Jason Earles, remembering the moment when she and Britney were onstage together. "It was cool, it was almost like a passing of the torch."

"I wish Britney Spears would've performed. I didn't get to meet her, but I was so excited she was there. She looks great — I'm so happy for her," said an excited Ashley Greene afterward. "She's had a rough couple of years, but she looked phenomenal. And Sean Kingston? His performance was cool, the dancers ... I just ran into him [backstage]. Now I'm going to go download his stuff."

The Teen Choice Awards air Monday, August 10 at 10:00 p.m. ET on Fox.

Britney Spears, 'Twilight' Cast Bring Style To Teen Choice Awards

We take a look at the red-carpet fashion of Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers and more stars arriving at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards.

UNIVERSAL CITY, California — It was an A-list night at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards as the big names — hosts the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears, to name a few — brought star wattage and unique style to the red carpet in front of the Gibson Amphitheatre.

The fellas kept it relaxed. The JoBros, hosts and nominees, all opted for a jacket and dress pants, but each look varied slightly. Kevin donned an all-black look as Joe kept it slightly "Miami Vice"-esque with his neon T-shirt. Meanwhile, Nick added a dash of color in a different way, opting for a beige blazer. The youngest "Bonus" Jonas, Frankie, kept the blazer look going by pairing his with jeans.

Fellow heartthrob RPattz wore a shiny suit jacket with a flannel-style button-down and gray jeans, topped with his signature tousled hair. His "New Moon" co-star Taylor Lautner also wore gray jeans, but matched them with a gray vest, striped tie and white button-down shirt.

Lautner and "Gossip Girl" star Chace Crawford came dangerously close to showing up in the same outfit, but Crawford's jeans were slightly darker and his vest and button-down were blue. And not to be outdone by the guy who took his role in "Footloose," Zac Efron looked sleek and laid-back in his plaid top, jeans and sneakers.

The ladies, however, embraced edgier looks. Last year's host, Miley Cyrus, wore a sparkly, super-short black miniskirt with a plain white tank top, studded belt and an array of necklaces that mid-'80s Madonna would have been proud of.

Kristen Stewart also joined the black-and-white club, rocking a black romper-style dress with metal detailing over a plain white tank. Fellow "Twilight" lass, Nikki Reed, went in a completely different direction wearing a feminine peach-colored dress.

Ashley Tisdale also went edgy, pairing her strapless black-and-purple dress with studded peep-toe shoes. Purple seemed to be the choice color of the ladies — Vanessa Hudgens also wore it, although hers was of a royal shade and cut a softer silhouette. Miley's BFF, Selena Gomez, wore a soft violet one-shoulder dress and "The Hills" star Audrina Patridge kept the purple love alive in strapless, rouched minidress.

However, the most-anticipated arrival of the night had to be Britney Spears, who wore her blond hair long and straight and went for the classic little black dress — changing up the classic just a bit with sparkly fabric and asymmetrical design.

The Teen Choice Awards air Monday, August 10 at 10:00 p.m. ET on Fox.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Tool Close Lollapalooza's Colorful Day Two

CHICAGO — First came the rain on Friday, then the heat on Saturday. But Lollapalooza breeds a hearty stock, so with slip 'n slides, togas and giant Chinese peasant hats in tow, out came the 70,000-plus for another day of music that was capped by fill-in headliners the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and doomy metal icons Tool.

Taking the place of the Beastie Boys, who had to drop out several weeks ago due to MC Adam Yauch's bout with cancer of the salivary gland, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs brought their always-colorful A-game, led, as usual, by fashion-forward singer Karen O, who took the stage in a kaleidoscopic, towering bird costume. Down on the south end, things couldn't have looked and sounded any more different, as Tool singer Maynard James Keenan stripped down to a pair of black workout shorts and moaned the lyrics to his band's turgid D&D metal as giant H.R. Giger-like images of giant bugs and morphing aliens were projected on the big screens.

Saturday dawned hot and steamy, with a chance of furnace blasts, as Friday's buckets of rain turned some parts of Grant Park into a fetid field of chocolate-colored slop that smelled like the elephant house at the zoo. English trio Band of Skulls had the honors of kicking off day two with a raucous set of dirty blues that included the stomper, "Death by Diamonds and Pearls." Also working early was nasal folkie Ezra Furman and his band, the Harpoons, who charmed with the quirky plea for personal space, "I Wanna Be Ignored," a sentiment lost on some of the golden-knee-high-gladiator-sandal-feather-mask-and-giant-sombrero-wearing masses.

It was hard to ignore the big crowd for the relatively unknown Thenewno2. The band is led by Dhani Harrison, who told us a bit later that his dad, late Beatle George Harrison, forbade him to attend Lollapalooza as a youth, and said he could go when he performed at it. Well, Harrison finally arrived, and his five piece band played a mind-expanding set of raga rock that swooped and swayed in psychedelic washes, mixing shoegazer noise with more contemporary glitch rock, and, of course, Harrison's eerily familiar voice.

The debut album by Miike Snow — which features the Swedish production duo known as Bloodshy & Avant (Britney Spears, Madonna) and American singer Andrew Wyatt — is full of catchy falsetto synth pop. But onstage, with the group wearing totally weather-inappropriate black satin jackets and black jeans, songs like "Silvia" and "Plastic Jungle" came off like throbbing techno rock brain teasers, ebbing and flowing with a hypnotic thrum.

Stomping around the stage like a petulant little girl, Norwegian rocker Ida Maria regaled the crowd with her many songs about drinking and its less appetizing aftermath ("Morning Light," "Louie"), bounding around in a shiny gold dress with what appeared to be a lengthy poem scrawled on one of her forearms. Minneapolis hip-hop crew Atmosphere drew a huge crowd on the south stage midday, with thousands of hands pumping in the air for "Puppets," and lots of knowing nods when lead rapper Slug threw in a lyrical reference to the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" in honor of the missing legendary crew.

In their Lollapalooza debut, England's Arctic Monkeys thrashed out of the gate with the trippy "This House Is a Circus" and pub-fueled bounce of "Fluorescent Adolescent," letting up a bit as they moved through a few too-slow songs before hitting their clattering stride again on the breakthrough hit, "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor."

Seemingly recovered from previous vocal problems, Santigold looked regal in an animal-print jumper and bejeweled crown as she reworked "You'll Find a Way," "Shove It" and "Say Aha," with dub and mashed-up live beats in front of an audience packed with girls wearing animal feathers in their hair and glittery golden eye shadow.

They were also decked out for Sweden's answer to Lady Gaga, Lykke Li, whose entire body pulsed like a pint-size percussion instrument. Moving in frenzied blur as if possessed by the rhythm, Li smashed a tambourine, struck a crash cymbal and honked on a kazoo during "Dance, Dance, Dance," and thrummed on her chest during the slinky "Little Bit."

The thrum was mind-zapping when sonic amoeba Animal Collective abandoned the more poppy song structures of their most recent album, Merriweather Post Pavilion and moved a blissed-out crowd with a set of loose, trancy falsetto incantations, trippy visuals and dense, throbbing bass and synthesized clicks. Singer Avey Tare often looked as if he himself was lost himself in the sonic brainwash.

The day also featured the melodic hardcore rantings of Chicago's own Rise Against, the hippie friendly jamming of Gomez, Coheed and Cambria's ear-shredding prog metal arias and some rocking blues from Ben Harper and the Relentless7.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs didn't shy away from the unenviable task of filling in for the Beastie Boys. Guitarist Nick Zinner tossed in a few bars of the B Boys' "So Watcha Want" at the end of the grinding, Led Zeppelin-like dirge "Phenomena." Dressed, as usual, in a colorful ensemble, singer Karen O danced like an indie disco queen during "Gold Lion" and the spiky "Honeybear," ably working the big stage with her larger-than-life persona and eliciting some knowing nods from likely newbies with the burbling intro to the band's recent hit, "Zero."

A quick 9 p.m. stroll past Perry's dance area, where, as was the case all day, thousands were jumping and twirling to the sounds of party music emerging from what looked like a giant flashing spaceship, yielded an earful of some seriously tweaked dancehall reggae moving into hardcore hippie techno. On the other main stage, though, there were no such glow-stick-twirling vibes, as Tool helped close out the night with a grinding, visual overload set of prog/industrial metal that brought out the faithful, many proudly wearing their weathered black Tool shirts.

"Stinkfist" got the majority of the dirty and exhausted crowd to wake up, and "Forty Six & 2" built slowly to an anthemic chorus that had the masses raising their voices along with Mohawked Keenan's unmistakable growl. Guitarist Adam Jones' work shredded faces, and appropriately enough, the video playing behind the band was a digital face being destroyed, just one of the band's signature disturbing visuals, which ranged from babies being born inside brains to quite a bit more things piercing eyeballs than would seem totally necessary.

They swayed and jumped, predictably going ballistic by the time "Schism" came on, with drummer Danny Carey tearing up his kit on the bridge to the final build. Ending with the bleak, ominous "Vicarious," Tool left without an encore, which seemed fine for the spent masses shuffling off into the humid night air.
