The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive

We came across an ill rumor yesterday. If 50 Cent were to perform at his "40 Day" neighborhood gathering in Southside Queens on August 30, he would have brought Cam'ron onstage with him. Wow. A real dope moment for the fans, but it would be very shocking — hypothetically speaking, since the two exchanged a myriad of disses years ago. But hey, if G-Unit are now doing records with D-Block, anything is possible. As luck would have it, we ran into Killa Cam recently in Harlem. We set up a joint interview with Cam, Vado and DJ Drama while they filmed a video for the mixtape track "Ric Flair," and during a break in filming, Killa addressed the rumors.

"Nah, I'm not going to no show in Queens," Cam said. "I don't know how true it is ... a few of my people — associates — said [some of 50's associates] was trying to reach out. But I ain't going to no concert in Queens. Come up to Harlem Week. We could sit down and have the roundtable meeting if you really wanna be serious. Or meet anywhere ... we can meet in Benihana's if you wanna be serious. It don't matter. I'm not squashing a problem we had in Queens at your event. That's the same way he got other artists to come to his shows, whether they was down with Dipset or D-Block or T.S., or whatever the case may be. It ain't no real beef, but we ain't gonna squash what we had at a Queens event. We'll meet halfway — Triborough Bridge or something. But I ain't going to no show in Queens. I'll be at Harlem Week."

One day the bosses may sit down, but in the meantime, Killa is focusing on his new crew, the U.N., and lead artist Vado.

"We work every day. I got the U.N., Charlie Clipse, Bird Lady, Dipset West. It's like two different record labels under one umbrella. As far as the U.N. album, how deep we are? We got like 60, 70 songs done. That's why we knock the mixtapes out because if it don't come out, the music starts getting old. I wanna put it out before I start saying, 'Dag, remember that joint we did last January?' But we're done [recording] — we could put an album out tomorrow if we needed to."

In early September, Cam is dropping the Boss of All Bosses Part 2 mixtape. That will be followed by the U.N. album, Vado's solo debut and Cam's next solo opus.

"It's flooded — the schedule's crazy."

Robert Pattinson And Kristen Stewart Are 'Definitely On,' Perez Hilton Says

'I think they're trying to keep it loosey-goosey,' gossip blogger says of 'Twilight' co-stars.

Perez Hilton is not one to shy away from sharing his opinion. So, as photos of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart getting cuddly at a Kings of Leon concert emerged, the outspoken blogger didn't hesitate to weigh in.

Hilton can't be sure, but judging by the evidence, he's going to say that these two "Twilight" stars definitely have feelings for one another. "I think that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are definitely hooking up," the self-proclaimed gossip gangsta told MTV News. "I don't know if they're dating ... I think they're trying to keep it loosey-goosey."

Perez didn't think that the pair were trying to drum up publicity by taking their displays of affection public at the concert, since each have such an "awkward" relationship with the media to begin with. But he did say that perhaps the pair are engaging in a "showmance" — an on-set romance.

"Hey, they're together and, according to multiple reports, they've been getting very friendly in public," he said, noting that all the new photos of the pair help prove that "they're definitely on."

Halfway through the conversation Perez decided that perhaps the duo have "more than just a hook-up situation," adding that, in his opinion, the onscreen lovers certainly aren't doing it for the attention. "I don't think that Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are the kind to court any kind of media attention."

However, Us Weekly reported that the pair are now more comfortable with taking their alleged romance public. A source tells the magazine, "They've decided to be more public about going out now. They're not boyfriend and girlfriend, but they've definitely hooked up."

Drake Is Finding His 'Real' Voice

'I can only rap about what's going on around me,' he says of his evolution as a lyricist.

When Fabolous wanted to put out a remix of "Throw It in the Bag," he flipped the beat and invited another MC to join in. For Drake, though, who got the call from Loso to collaborate on the remix, things weren't quiet so simple.

"Fab is talking about something very specific," Drake said of the shopping-spree-based tune. "He's talking about going to a store and buying [girls] things. I've never done that before. I've bought something for a female, but I can't walk into a store with her and buy her something that she asks for or buy her something in front of her face. I feel like that's impersonal. I feel like I'm being used at that point."

The Young Money artist put his rhymes together, but he warned Fabolous that his verse might be a different take on things. "It's not exactly going with [the] concept, but it's a real situation," Drake said.

That formula, using real life to inspire his art, is what has helped the Toronto lyricist evolve from his first mixtape, Room for Improvement, through his breakout collection, So Far Gone.

"I was listening the other day to a really old song I did — well, old to me. It was about three or four years old," Drake said. "And I noticed, for the first time in my career, I noticed some consistency. Although my content was more braggadocious, because I really didn't have anything back then, so I wanted to speak like I had everything. That's just being young and being influenced by other people. But I noticed I was still talking about myself. If I complimented myself, I would follow it up. I'd catch myself.

"Now it's at that point where I can only rap about what's going on around me," he said.

Marshall Mathers has an army of supporters, and thanks to them, Eminem has risen to the top of the fan voting in our Hottest MC poll. With 40 percent of the votes thus far, he's pulled ahead of Joe Budden and 50 Cent, who had been the leading vote getters in the weeks since we opened the poll. Now that those votes are being factored into this year's official list, it seems fans are aware that the stakes are higher.

A reader named Stacey is among the Em fans wearing the cyberspace rally cap and encouraging folks to get behind the Detroit rap legend. "Eminem is the hottest one in this list!!! Vote for Eminem," she wrote.

Meanwhile, a commenter called the Champ has posted a top 10 list: "1. Eminem; 2. 50 Cent; 3. Kanye West; 4. T.I.; 5. Jay-Z; 6. Fabolous; 7. Lloyd Banks; 8. Young Jeezy; 9. Drake; 10. Lil Wayne.

"Em is the undisputed Hottest MC. Relapse [is the] best album put out since [T.I.'s] Paper Trail," Champ added. "Lyrically and artistically, he is simply on another level than Jay-Z, Weezy and Kanye."

But don't count out Lil Wayne. It looks like more of his fans are going to step to the plate and show support for Weezy F. Baby.

"Lil Wayne is the best rapper alive," user CaliSky wrote. "Eminem is definitely talented, but have you heard Tha Carter III? What about his new track, 'I'ma Go Getta'? And now he's doing this rock/rap blend? Lil Wayne for sure has my vote."

Due to the whopping 420 percent increase in voting, we decided to delay revealing the MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust's list and let you guys weigh in. We're encouraging everyone to continue to be engaged in this conversation and cast your vote for the Hottest MCs in the Game until September 21.

When the poll closes, we'll tally up your votes for the top 10 along with the votes from the Hip-Hop Brain Trust. The official list of the Hottest MCs in the Game will be unveiled this October.

Tokio Hotel Fans Go Wild For 'Automatic'

On Tuesday, MTV News posted an exclusive snippet of "Automatic," the first single off Tokio Hotel's much anticipated Humanoid album, and let's just say we've been pretty amazed by the reaction.

We always knew Tokio Hotel fans were a dedicated bunch, but we never expected this. You guys showed up en masse to have a listen to 45-seconds of the band's new single, and you let us know what you thought of it too. We got comments from all over the world (more proof that TH truly are a global phenomenon), more than a few marriage proposals for the Kaulitz brothers, and a whole lot of takes on Tokio Hotel's new sound and look.

(We also got a great video response from a pair of super-excited Canadian sisters. Keep those Your.MTV.com submissions coming!)

In fact, it was all so overwhelming that we decided to share some of the best reactions with all of you. And if you still want to weigh in on Tokio Hotel's "Automatic," you can do it in the comments below. It's not too late to join the conversation!

"I think people weren't really taking the guys seriously when they said they wanted to go for a different sound. I'm actually happy that TH is changing it up a bit. It's refreshing." — Ta-Ti

"[It] gives me goose bumps, especially the German version. Soo good, I'm craving the video. People who can't feel it should just turn their speakers louder." — Sima

"I agree with lots of people that it is leaning towards the pop-y side, but I think the instruments make it a definite TH song. I think TH have this special way that they make their music. ... No matter how different it is from their other songs, you still know it's them. I thought Bill's vocals are really good and his English is definitely much better. The little techno addition to his vocals also enhances the vocal sound, and it makes his voice with the song even more positive." — Kittygirl09

"I've been waiting for so long for their new album, and when I heard just a bit of 'Automatic,' I was f---in' blown away! It's AMAZING in every way and I love, love, love how Bill is doing his vocals! So beautiful and creative, it took my breath away!" — BeMyHeavenTonightx3

"Bill's voice has this amazingly powerful quality to it. I'd definitely agree with the U2 and Coldplay and even the Angels & Airwaves comparisons. The music and flowing quality of the vocals and lyrics just seem to agree with that combination. Though, this is a lot more mainstream and poppy than I had anticipated. I'm much more a fan of their harder tracks. ... I guess the rest of the album will have something different to offer, but for now I'm very pleased with this." — Sami-Hikari

"I get butterflies in my stomach from listening to this, and I have listened to this song probably over 50 times now! It's soooo good! I'm so proud of the Kaulitz boys. How they make such an awesome song on a simple car ride. Amazing!" — Beanybudd

"Loving this article! I agree with the Coldplay comparison of the guitars — during the refrain of the word 'automatic,' the way the guitars rise and warble and sing so beautifully is very similar to a Coldplay sound relief. Which is basically AMAZING! Oh this song is going to be so good." — MidnightMonsoon

"I really like this, but it is more pop-ish than usual. But haven't they said that this song is really different from the rest and there's a lot of 'dark, anthem-y stuff'? I hope it's like a mix of stuff. But I still love this." — WhoLovesTHandTheKaulitzTwins?ME!!!

"With all the talk about their 'new sound' and the drastic change in their 'look,' we were a little worried that they wouldn't sound like TH anymore ... But they sound FANTASTIC! Bill sounds better than ever and we CAN'T WAIT to hear the rest of Humanoid!!!! Thanks so much, MTV.com!!!!" — Elderhausgirlz

Tony Yayo: '40 Day' Will Be Memorable Whether 50 Cent Performs Or Not

New York City mayor stated 50 will not perform.

The G-Unit says that their neighborhood extravaganza, called both "40 Day" and "Family Day," is slated to take place on August 30 in the New York City neighborhood of Southside Jamaica, Queens.

The event is a free gathering of people in the neighborhood, taking place outside of the "40 Projects," a.k.a. the South Jamaica Houses development. According to 50 and the Unit, there will be music, plenty of food and many of Fif's big name celebrity friends mingling with the folks. G-Unit's Tony Yayo even said the event will have amusement park rides.

However, On Monday, the New York Post published an article claiming that "40 Day" had people in 50's home neighborhood cowering in fear; the articles quotes several locals who are leery of potential violence. This writer (who grew up and still has ties to the neighborhood) is hearing a different story from locals, who seem excited to have 50, Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks giving back to the community. 50 promoted the positivity of the event while pushing his War Angel LP LP and Forever King mixtapes a few weeks back.

In any event, the negative publicity seems to have gone all the way to New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office. When interviewed about the event, Bloomberg told the Post, "Our understanding after talking with 50 Cent is, he has no plans to perform whatsoever. He might go, but he's not going to perform."

On Tuesday, Tony Yayo said the day will be memorable no matter what.

"The mayor was saying he spoke to 50 and he agreed that it wouldn't be a performance. Yo, I can't get at the mayor," Yayo laughed. "I don't even wanna say anything bad about him — I don't wanna get pulled over when I leave from outta here! But 50's big, 50s bigger than life. Rumor is he spent over half a million dollars on this." However, 50 definitely will be taking the stage on August 29 at the Six Flags Amusement Park in New Jersey.

"I know he has over 30 busses for Great Adventure on the 29th. To me, it's a positive thing — it's giving back. Just like how they did Baisley Park," Yayo said, referring to Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson Community Garden, which 50 dedicated late last year.

Katy Perry Calls Lady Gaga Hermaphrodite Rumors 'Calculated'

'She knows what she's doing,' Perry says of Gaga's mischievous master plan.

For nearly a month now — after photos of her performance at the Glastonbury Festival supposedly revealed a mysterious, below-the-belt bulge — rumors have been swirling 'round the Internet that Lady Gaga is a hermaphrodite.

And as ridiculous as that may sound, the whispers just wouldn't go away (of course, it didn't help matters when a bunch of blogs picked up a supposed quote from Gaga, in which she "confirmed" the rumors). It got so bad that even ABC News got in on the act, asking Gaga's manager about the issue. Surprisingly, he actually chose to respond, calling the quote — and the rumors — "completely ridiculous."

And even that hasn't stopped the story from continuing. So, really, it should come as no surprise that on Tuesday, London's Daily Mirror decided to ask Katy Perry about the hermaphrodite thing. According to Perry, the rumors are part of Gaga's elaborate, media-tweaking master plan.

"Oh, please. It's all very calculated," she told the newspaper. "She knows what she's doing. She put something in her knickers, a mini strap-on. Bless her if she does have a di--, but I am certain she doesn't."

A spokesperson for Perry did not respond to MTV News' request for comment on the Mirror interview, nor did a spokesperson for Gaga.

We already knew that Rihanna and Kanye West appear on "Run This Town," the second single from Jay-Z's upcoming The Blueprint 3. And judging by the entire track listing Jigga released on his Web site on Tuesday, he's going to have plenty of help on the 15 tracks of the eagerly anticipated sequel, which drops on September 11.

The long-in-the-works opus will kick off with "What We Talkin' About," a collaboration with eccentric singer Luke Steele of the Australian new-wave act Empire of the Sun. That's followed by the songs "Thank You" and the album's first single, "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)."

Next up is "Empire State of Mind" with Alicia Keys, "Real As It Gets" with Young Jeezy, "On to the Next One" with Swizz Beatz and "Off That" with currently laid-up Lil Wayne protégé Drake. Though vets like Pharrell ("So Ambitious") and 'Ye ("Hate") also make appearances, Jay has plenty of other fresh talent on tap, from Kid Cudi ("Already Home") to Mr Hudson ("Young Forever") and rapper J. Cole ("A Star Is Born").

Jay, who will be among the performers at the 2009 Video Music Awards on September 13, also goes it alone on a couple of other tracks, "Venus Vs. Mars" and "Reminder."

The track listing does not reveal one of the most intriguing collaborations that was rumored to appear on the album, a hook-up with psychedelic rockers MGMT, but they could still be sampled on one of the songs.

Iconic filmmaker John Hughes died August 6 of a heart attack, and while the tributes to him have not been as plentiful as they were for Michael Jackson, there have still been plenty of stars who have paid tribute to the late director in their work.

The latest comes from over-the-top dance-music duo LMFAO, whose new video for their second single "La La La" is an homage to Hughes' 1985 classic "Weird Science."

The video features LMFAO member Redfoo dreaming up a computer application that creates virtual women, just like the protagonist of "Weird Science." The program then sends the duo into the computer, where they dance with Chelsea Corka from Paradiso Girls and Jonna from "The Real World: Cancun."

MTV News' Tim Kash caught up with the pair a few weeks ago (on the day Hughes died) and asked them about the clip. "We're doing a 'Weird Science' thing," Redfoo said. "We create two girls in a virtual world. It's all green screen and has effects, and it's that feeling of 'on top of the world!' "

They also talked about the interactive opportunity they are offering with the clip. "There's going to be a program and an iPhone application where you're gonna be able to put your picture and the picture of the person you have a crush on on our bodies. So now you're in the video," he said.

"La La La" is the second single from LMFAO's debut album Party Rock, following their breakout hit "I'm in Miami Trick."

Jay-Z's 'Run This Town' Video Feels 'Rebellious,' Director Says

Posted: 19 Aug 2009 02:59 AM PDT

'We wanted you to feel uneasy throughout the piece,' Anthony Mandler says of clip, which features Rihanna and Kanye West.
By Jayson Rodriguez

Throughout Jay-Z's career, the Brooklyn MC has worn the King of New York crown, turned the Hot 97 Summer Jam stage into an annual exhibit of his greatness and probably increased sales of Yankees fitted hats more than Derek Jeter.

So you would think the video for a track called "Run This Town" would be an ode to his hometown, right? Not exactly.

Despite the clip being filmed in the Big Apple, at the historic Fort Trotten Park in Queens, the director, Anthony Mandler, said he wanted to avoid any semblance of New York's iconic imagery.

"I wanted something that didn't fit into 'this is New York, this is a building or a street [you know],' " he explained to MTV News. "I wanted it to feel more ancient. I wanted it to feel more European but on American soil. I didn't want it to have a framework, like, 'Oh, we're riding in New York.' "

Instead, the "Run This Town" video is a nihilistic, chaotic account of militia-like entities revolting, complete with Molotov-cocktail explosions, riot-like activity and the high-powered trio of Hov, Kanye West, and Rihanna performing in the midst of it all.

Mandler said the piece was more culturally inspired from current events, compared to the clip for "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)," which referenced the Italian film "Zabriskie Point."

"There's a tone and feeling to the song," Mandler said of the Blueprint 3 track. (Check out the album's full track list here.) "There's a militia, a march and a kind of rambunctious energy to it that, for me, I immediately wanted to tap into. I showed [Jay] some references from the classic rebellious zones of the world. We live in a very orderly society in America, but when you get into Brazil, you get into the Middle East, you get into Africa, you get into Eastern Europe, when you get into places like that, there's a different sort of 'we run this town' [going on]. There's less order and more chaos. So we looked at a lot of those references, new photos and historical photos, to capture that kind of falling-apart feeling."

Through the use of lighting effects and editing techniques, Mandler said he played up the aggression in the shots, creating more stark and tension-filled imagery. Mandler has worked with both Jay-Z ("Lost Ones," "D.O.A.") and Rihanna ("Disturbia," "Rehab") multiple times, but this was his first time collaborating with West. The director said he was able to successfully capture the essence of each artist while still retaining the original focus for the video.

"We wanted you to feel uneasy throughout the piece," he said. "We wanted there to be a constant layer of tension through the piece. Even in the way I shot — where the camera comes by Jay, it doesn't stop on him, it goes to Rihanna — there's kind of this chaos of revealing and covering and concealing. And things happen offscreen that you don't see.

"I think people are really gonna flip on this," he added.

"Run This Town" premieres Thursday on MTV.
