With all the 2010 wrap-up stories and year-end lists dominating these last few days, it's time to start thinking beyond New Year's Eve and into the new year. And you know what that means: New Year's resolutions. The most popular vows generally revolve around health (weight loss, exercise, quitting smoking) and finance (spend less).

However when MTV News caught up with a few of our favorite stars recently to find out what they resolve to do in 2011, their commitments were a bit more unique.

"My New Year's resolution is to stay true to myself," "Bottoms Up" singer Trey Songz revealed. "Regardless of what anybody says, I'll never let anybody else's thoughts dictate that of my own."

"Probably just progress more as an actor," said 12-year-old "Modern Family" scene-stealer Rico Rodriguez.

Avril Lavigne had three broad goals in mind: "Be healthy, focus hard, make sure to see [my] family."

MTV's own "Jersey Shore" standout Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino said his plans involve moving from the small screen to the big one. "[I might be] doing maybe a movie or something," he teased.

Chart-topping pink princess Nicki Minaj offered the most colorful response: "[I'll be] touring around the world. It's looking like the biggest, baddest, I don't know ... I should've had something better to say," she began, and then invented a few words on the spot, for emphasis on just how big 2011 will be for the "Your Love" singer. "[I'm going to be the] biggest, baddest, boldest, booming-est, fearless-ocity-est, Pink Friday-est, girl," she promised.

Which celeb will fulfill their New Year's resolution? Tell us in the comments!

Don't miss "MTV New Year's Bash," starting at 10:30 p.m. ET on New Year's Eve!

How Katy Perry Avoided A Sophomore Slump

Critics weigh in on pop star's rise thanks to Teenage Dream.

In 2008, Katy Perry proclaimed she was One of the Boys, going around town kissing girls and "Waking Up in Vegas." Then two years later, Perry released her triumphant sophomore effort, Teenage Dream, a spirited mix of sugary love ballads and feisty anthems.

Many artists have fallen victim to the dreaded sophomore slump, delivering fans and critics a disappointing second album. Instead, Perry stuck to her pop guns and gave everyone what they wanted: fun, quirky pop songs.

While her contemporaries were busy rapping, like Ke$ha, or making grandiose political statements, like Lady Gaga, Perry just wanted to have fun. She wanted her fans to dance around in daisy dukes, and it paid off: She had a string of #1 hits including "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream" and her empowerment anthem "Firework."

So, when MTV News asked a few critics just what it is that helped solidify Perry's pop star status in 2010, they had this to say:

Perry looks like a pop star, but isn't as polished as most of them. Elliot Wilson of RapRadar.com explained, "She has a rock-chick kind of attitude, but at the same time she can pass for a pop princess.

"What I like about Katy Perry is that she seems kind of rebellious. People want to peg what the artist should be, and then you see the artist's growth, and I think that she's challenging. I think she's brash and bold."

Plus, over the course of the past 12 months, she's used that persona to sell herself and her music. "She's very good at the marketing side of things," Noah Callahan of Complex explained. "She has a very clear aesthetic. It's very digestible and understandable, and it doesn't hurt that she's very easy on the eyes."

Writer Julianne Esobado-Shepard credits Perry's kooky persona as one of the reasons why she's been so embraced by pop lovers.

"She's got hooks. Again, [her producer] Dr. Luke just kind of murdered it, especially with 'Teenage Dream,' " she said. "She's sort of a blank slate in a way. She's like an avatar of what people think they want, which is again like boobs. The fact that she likes shooting things out of her boobs so much has really gone a long way for her career."

Natalie Portman, Reese Witherspoon, More Round Out December Love Report

This month was full of celebrity engagements, weddings and a few breakups.

December has been an interesting month for Hollywood in the love department. There have been several shocking splits and even more engagements, with one seemingly pouring in every hour on the hour. Let's also not forget that some couples tied the knot. As December wraps up, MTV News is taking a look back on a busy month for love.

The Engagements

Tony Romo and TV sports reporter Candice Crawford (sister of Chace Crawford) kicked off engagement-palooza earlier this month when they announced they were going to marry. Quickly all of Hollywood joined suit with LeAnn Rimes, Lily Allen and Ginnifer Goodwin all getting engaged.

Two of Hollywood's most famous actresses also announced their engagements this month. Reese Witherspoon announced Tuesday that she will marry Hollywood agent Jim Toth, and Natalie Portman had a lot of good news, sharing that she is set to marry "Black Swan" ballet dancer Benjamin Millepied and that the two are expecting a baby.

The Weddings

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden married in mid-December after having four years and two kids together. We assume they just wanted to make sure they really liked each other before they said "I do."

On Tuesday we learned that Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky tied the knot. And finally, "Lord of the Rings" actor Billy Boyd also married this month.

The Breakups

It was surprising to hear that Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds were divorcing after two years of marriage, but the couple confirmed the news in mid-December. Equally shocking was the news that Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens were separating after several years as one of young Hollywood's favorite couples.

Filming for the upcoming season of "Dexter" might be a little awkward now that the show's star, Michael C. Hall, and his TV sister, Jennifer Carpenter, are divorcing. And just this week, fans learned that Rihanna and her baseball beau, Matt Kemp, decided to split because of their busy schedules.

Which December hookup or breakup most surprised you? Tell us in the comments below!

Britney Spears is making sure to start the year off right with new music. As speculated, the pop princess is set to premiere her brand-new track called "Hold It Against Me" late next week, according to Entertainment Weekly. In the latest issue of the magazine, Sharon Dastur, program director for New York's Z100, dished a few details about the pop star's anticipated new single.

"It's produced by Dr. Luke and Max Martin," Dastur revealed. "And the beat that they give her is really unique compared to other artists — this infectious bass beat beneath the song. Plus, the hook is just amazing. It will be out on January 7."

Rumored lyrics to "Hold It Against Me" circulated on the Internet earlier this week, but Britney's camp has yet to confirm whether they are real or not. And while details about the track remain scarce, a tweet from Dr. Luke indicated that it will feature a guitar.

Fans began speculating about Britney's new single when PopJustice.com reported on the song earlier this month. Dr. Luke also began to tease fans about the tune, tweeting, "I/we never wrote a song called 'don't hold it against me'.... BewaRe of InaccuraTe info kids ;-) We did write 'hold it against me' but those lyrics are NOT the lyrics ...."

Swedish producer Shellback recently spoke about Spears' work ethic and professionalism while working on her new LP, which drops in March. "[Britney]'s actually damn professional. You read a lot on the Internet that Britney is not singing and mimes, but she is actually damn professional," he said. "She's done it since she was 16. And just rhythmic way, she is f---ing awesome! And you do not have to go through and talk about the rhythms and stuff that you sometimes have to do. She's very easy in the studio."

The "3" singer has already begun casting dancers for a new music video. Just last week, the fansite BreatheHeavy.com posted a notice sent out by Britney's team announcing auditions for a video shooting in January. In a video purported to be shot during auditions, which were coordinated by choreographer and former Britney collaborator Brian Friedman, dancers are seen learning a routine to "Criminal Intent" by Swedish songstress Robyn.

We take a look at the parties hosted by everyone from Rihanna to 30 Seconds to Mars on Friday night.

Ah, New Year's Eve. A night for outlandish celebrations, noisy party favors, fireworks, countdowns, kisses and, sometimes, plain-old debauchery. The haters out there refer to December 31 as "amateur night," referring to the common phenomenon of revelers' tendencies to overindulge themselves with partying and adult beverages. The non-haters, however, take advantage of the holiday's merry theme to get dressed up and attend a fancy party. Maybe even a fancy party at a nightclub, hosted by a celebrity.

For those looking to possibly rub elbows with a celeb, if you live in or are heading to Miami, Las Vegas or New York, you're in luck. The soirees hosted by famous faces are a-plenty in those towns.

The biggest event in Vegas looks to be the grand opening of the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. On Thursday, Florence and the Machine will perform at the opening of the casino's Marquee nightclub and then on Friday, New Year's Eve, the party includes a star-studded dinner and performances by Jay-Z and Coldplay. Celeb attendees expected to start 2011 at Marquee include: Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Wahlberg, Kristin Davis, Ellen Pompeo, Rashida Jones, Kellan Lutz, Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan, Haylie Duff, Nick Zano, James Marsden, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Tim Olyphant, Leah Remini, Tyler Perry, Abigail Spencer, Emmy Rossum, Jessica Szohr, Mark Salling and Selita Ebanks.

Other celeb-hosted parties at venues on the Las Vegas Strip include a 30 Seconds to Mars performance at the Pearl Theater in the Palms Hotel and Casino; B.o.B and Bruno Mars at Jet Nightclub in the Mirage Hotel and Casino; Diddy at LAX in the Luxor; "Girls Next Door" alum Holly Madison at Lavo in the Palazzo; Jay Sean at the Bank in the Bellagio; Kim Kardashian at Tao in the Venetian; Nelly at HAZE Nightclub in ARIA Resort and Casino; and last but not least, Rihanna will be at PURE Nightclub in Caesars Palace.

Miami features a similarly star-studded list of affairs. Usher, Trey Songz and Miguel will perform at the American Airlines Arena, after which Songz will head to LUX nightclub to host their festivities. Drake is hosting a party at Wall at the W South Beach, along with DJs Sinatra, Phresh and Jacomino. Porn actress-turned-"Entourage" hottie Sasha Grey is hosting a celebration at Catalina Beach Club. Leona Lewis and Natasha Bedingfield will perform at the South Beach Jam on the Sand, where streets will be closed to cars for a three-day party leading up to the Orange Bowl. Kourtney Kardashian will be at Plunge in the Gansevoort South Hotel, and Lil' Jon will DJ and MC at Cameo nightclub, while Nicki Minaj is hosting an "All Pink Everything" shindig at Mansion with the Harajuku Barbie Dancers.

And then of course in New York City, MTV will be ringing in the New Year with comedian Whitney Cummings, a performance by Flo Rida and some fist-pumping action from our very own "Jersey Shore" cast, who will premiere footage from their upcoming new season.

Kim Kardashian might not be having Kanye West's baby, but the two certainly seem to be up to something. The duo were spotted at the same Culver City, California, recording studio on Tuesday. Kim was accompanied by momager Kris Jenner as well as TV cameras, while Kanye showed up all on his own.

In photos posted on TooFab.com, Kim is seen walking into the studio wearing boots, a baggy T-shirt and cargo jeans. Kanye, who is set to make an appearance on Kim's new show airing this January, is seen wearing leather pants, a white T-shirt and a leather jacket.

"OMG u guys have no idea what I'm doing today! You are gonna DIE!!!! OMGGGG I'm nervous!!!!!!" she tweeted the same day the duo were spotted at the studio.

"Its going down in here!!! Will twitpic soon! I'm turning it ooooonnnn!!!!" she later added. "What should my alter ego name be? What an amazing day!!! I'm finished for today...but we have a few more to go! Can't twitpic just yet but will soon! Feels so good to overcome a fear!"

Whatever she's up to, with or without Kanye, Kim was still busy on Wednesday (December 29). She tweeted, "Day #2 let's go!"

For his part, Kanye has been pretty quiet on Twitter. His last tweet was on December 27, when he shared, "New dreams... New problems... New solutions."

In November, when rumors first surfaced that they were up to something musically, Kim danced around the topic. "He's a musical genius, so I would be honored to work with Kanye," she told MTV News. "It's all in fun. We're just trying to have a good time."

Eminem, Jay-Z Track 'Syllables' Leaks Online

Leave it to the last two Hottest MCs winner, Eminem and Jay-Z, to lament the lost art of lyricism in hip-hop.

The two top-notch rappers — along with Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Stat Quo and Cashis — spit about catchy choruses and gimmicks taking over the game on "Syllables." The track is a buried studio gem from old recording sessions that made its way online on Tuesday night.

"If we got to dumb down our style and A-B-C it, then so be it," Em raps over slow piano stabs. "'Cause nowadays, these kids, geez/ Don't give a sh-- about lyrics, all they want to hear is a beat and that's it/ Long as they can go to the club and get blitz, pick up some chicks and get some digits.

"We don't know a word to the verse, we only know the chorus," he adds later. "'Cause the chorus repeats the same four words for us."

It's unclear when the song was recorded, although Cashis confirmed that the number was dated via a Twitter post.

"I recorded it a while ago but it just came out today," wrote the rapper. "Timing is everything." The tune likely dates back to when Cashis was a newcomer on Shady Records (Stat Quo, an upstart Aftermath signee at the time, has since left the label).

Meanwhile, a track called "Topless" featuring Eminem and Nas also hit the Net on Tuesday night. A previous version of the song with Nas and T.I. has been circulating online for some time.

Em and Tip both rap in cadences similar to Dr. Dre, a sign that their vocals are references for the producer.

Injured 'Spider-Man' Actor Leaves Hospital For Rehab

Christopher Tierney had back surgery after suffering a 20-foot fall during a preview performance of the Broadway musical.
By Terri Schwartz

Injured "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" actor Christopher Tierney has begun inpatient rehabilitation after spending nine days in the intensive care unit at Bellevue Hospital, his father told The Associated Press.

Tierney sustained several injuries and had to receive back surgery for his cracked vertebrae after he fell more than 20 feet during a performance December 20. He walked for the first time after his injury on Monday.

Even though there haven't been any new injuries plaguing the $65 million Broadway show, "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" has been surrounded by bad press in recent days. On Tuesday, lead actress Natalie Mendoza decided to leave the show after she suffered a concussion in November. Also, theater critics from Newsday and Bloomberg News chose to purchase tickets to preview performances of the musical instead of following the unspoken Broadway agreement to wait until a critics performance to watch the musical. Their reviews were generally unfavorable, and those involved in the production were not pleased, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Michael Riedel, a critic from theNew York Post, checked out the show last Thursday but was asked to move from the good seat he paid for to a terrible balcony seat for "safety reasons." After asking if the row he was in (D) was labeled "D for death," the theater manager clarified that the seat was actually sold twice and that his ticket would be refunded if he moved to a seat in the orchestra. He was unable to see many of the flying stunts from that vantage point. "Injured or cheated. Take your pick," he wrote.

Director Julie Taymor chose to cancel a New York Times event where she would have been interviewed about the play, citing scheduling conflicts. A press representative for Taymor told The Hollywood Reporter that "with the changes to the Spider-Man production schedule, Julie will be deep in rehearsals and will not be available to participate." The event was scheduled for January 8 and Taymor would have been interviewed by Times theater reporter Patrick Healy (who was at the same preview performance as Riedel).

Last week, several preview performances were canceled after Tierney's injury while new safety measures were put into effect. The musical is slated for an official open on February 7.

Kelly Osbourne Isn't First Celeb To Publicly Lash Out At An Ex

Our relationship expert offers advice after reality star's Twitter tirade against Luke Worrall and David Arquette's candid sex talk about Courteney Cox.
By Kara Warner

After Kelly Osbourne's recent Twitter tirade against ex-fiancé Luke Worrall, which included several potentially slanderous and profanity-laced statements, it seemed wise that the reality star said she'd be signing off Twitter for a while, hopefully in order to recover from her heartbreak and stop airing any more dirty laundry in such a public setting.

Osbourne's incident reminded us of David Arquette calling into Howard Stern and discussing his and ex Courteney Cox's sex life on the radio.

This got us to thinking: How do you bounce back from such emotional, and often regrettable, actions? According to relationship expert Amy Laurent, the first thing to do: Stop talking.

"The worst thing you can do is lash out in public," Laurent told MTV News. "The way [Osbourne] comes off is not good. I don't know the ins and outs of their relationship, but the best thing she can do is to stop talking. Don't say a word more."

Laurent added that Osbourne's reactions were a natural part of the grieving process, but that she should make some kind of comment or apology, acknowledging the fact that she was hurt, upset and just plain heartbroken.

"When you get your heart broken, [the first cycle of grief] is the sadness, the depression, crying, and then the next cycle is to get angry," Laurent explained. "That's the natural progression."

Laurent added, with regard to Arquette's situation, he should have gone straight to Cox to apologize. "If you're still talking to them, go to that person you broke up with and apologize and see if you can join forces," she said. " 'I'm sorry I was stupid.' Try and have that other person support you to clean it up."

For anyone suffering from a recent breakup, not just celebrities, Laurent recommended staying away from sites like Facebook and Twitter.

"Don't Facebook stalk," she said. "I would recommend to totally refrain from any of that stuff, even making little comments in reference. ... And don't do anything impulsively, she added. It's hard to do when you're emotional, when you have a broken heart, but you have to slow down and not do anything impulsive."

For celebs, however, the bar for expected good behavior after breaking up with another famous face is much higher. Laurent said there's an aspect of censorship to which celebs unfortunately have to adhere.

"Nobody ever wants to think that they have to censor themselves, but to a certain extent, [celebrities] can't 100 percent be themselves," she said. "Someone like David Arquette, he is more easily forgivable, people want to like him. He's a perfect example of how people make mistakes and you can kind of fix those mistakes if you're willing to admit it."

Laurent said Osbourne's rant, unfortunately, went way too far.

"You have to show a level of restraint, even if that person cheated on you, treated you like absolute dirt. You still can't lash out, because you're not going to get that sympathy from the public if you do that," she said. "But I think she's sensitive and young. I feel bad for her. I hope people keep that in mind when they judge her, but I hope she really learns from this."

Was Osbourne's rant justified? How can she recover? Tell us in the comments!

OK, so Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez aren't kissing and telling when it comes to the status of their relationship, and they're also not kissing and snapping photos. When a picture leaked online of what appeared to be the teen stars caught in a lip-lock, fans began to wonder if perhaps the rumors of their romance were true.

But a rep for Bieber told Celebuzz that the photo, which originally appeared on Bieber fan site Bieber Heiress, is a fake. The rep added that they hope "no one is actually paying money for that photo" since the couple in the photo are not actually Bieber and Gomez.

But those aren't the only rumors circulating about Justin and Selena. E! News reports that the pair were seen hanging out in Miami ordering room service at the Gansevoort Hotel, where Bieber was staying under the alias Chandler Bing, Matthew Perry's character from "Friends." They reportedly ordered some late-night food from STK on December 18 at around 1 a.m. The two were spotted in the hallway of the hotel. What did they drink with their meal? Pepsi and ginger ale.

Bieber recently tweeted about rumors, writing, "Chillin and happy. Its been a fun year with a lot of blessings. Some crazy rumors but so much love and memories. We r just gettin started!! So enjoy the holidays. Get crazy and have some laughs. Life is too short. At least that is what they tell me. #newyearsIsComin."

Matthew Morrison Calls Lindsay Lohan 'Fair Game' For 'Glee' Jabs

Lindsay Lohan's trials and tribulations have landed the starlet at the center of sideswipe jokes and as inspiration for future films. While the actress may not be too pleased with the wisecracking and mockery, "Glee" star Matthew Morrison thinks the 24-year-old actress should lighten up a bit.

"Access Hollywood" recently caught up with the "Glee" actor, who admitted that his show's recent Lohan sideswipe is just another instance of the series' usual humor, which often intertwines pop culture references.

"You know, when it comes to 'Glee,' I think everyone is fair game," Morrison told host Maria Menounos. "We poke fun at ourselves all the time. I don't think anyone really gets away from the 'Glee' scathing." He then added, "Sorry Lindsay."

Just last month, Lohan's mother, Dina, slammed the aforementioned "Glee" episode, which featured guest star Gwyneth Paltrow's character, Holly Holliday, poking fun at the troubled star. During the scene, Holliday gives a lecture in which she says, "Lindsey [sic] Lohan is totally crazy, right?" in Spanish. The ridicule continues when Holliday quizzes the class on numbers by asking, "How many times has Lindsay Lohan been to rehab?"

Dina told Radar Online that her daughter was deeply hurt by the show and Paltrow's participation in it. "Lindsay is so upset with Gwyneth," Dina said. "Lindsay was watching it while in [the] Betty Ford [rehab center], then she called me and was upset and said, 'Why did she have to do that?' We are the first to make fun of ourselves in our family. And Lindsay has even done 'SNL' a few times, but Gwyneth went overboard and it was unnecessary."

While Morrison didn't express too much sympathy for Lohan, he did gush about Katie Couric's guest-starring role on the highly anticipated post-Super Bowl episode of "Glee."

When asked about the news anchor's upcoming appearance, the "Glee" star described working with Couric as "awesome." He then shared, "We did this impromptu dance together. She showed me this thing called the pretzel," before demonstrating the maneuver to Menounos.

Morrison revealed that Couric plays herself on the episode and makes a visit to McKinley High to interview Sue Sylvester (played by Jane Lynch) as part of a "20 Biggest Losers of the Year" assignment.

"I can't give away too much because there's so many amazing lines that Jane has in that scene," he explained. "The last one is the best, but I can't say it. But yeah, [Couric] played herself. She was so much fun. I love her. She's such a great energy."

Nicole Richie has officially completed her probation in connection with a 2006 DUI case, TMZ reports. Richie was put on probation that year in connection with DUI charges she received after being pulled over while driving the wrong way on a Los Angeles freeway.

Richie's lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, went to court Wednesday morning (December 29) to present the judge with proof that her client had completed the terms of her probation. The verification included a report from the alcohol-education program that the reality-TV star had been attending for the last 18 months. Richie was supposed to end her probation in February 2011, but the judge agreed to terminate it early after ruling that all the terms had been sufficiently completed.

Earlier this month, Richie and her longtime beau, Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden, finally tied the knot after dating for four years and having two kids together. The wedding took place in California at the home of Nicole's dad, Lionel Richie. An array of stars helped the couple celebrate the nuptials, including No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani, celebrity DJ Samantha Ronson and Madden's twin and Good Charlotte bandmate, Benji. Reverend Run presided over the ceremony. The couple have a 1-year-old son, Sparrow, and an almost-3-year-old daughter, Harlow.

The pair made headlines last February when they announced their engagement. Richie broke the news during an appearance on "The Late Show With David Letterman," while Madden took to Twitter to let the world know.

In October 2009, Richie opened up about being a parent. "I couldn't be happier," Richie explained to People. "The only thing you want is for your kids to be healthy and happy, and they are. I'm right where I belong."

Candace Cameron Bure Opens Up About Her Struggle With Bulimia

Actress calls her post-'Full House' eating disorder 'a very dangerous cycle.'

The troubled histories of Lindsay Lohan, Corey Haim and countless others have proven that the life of a child star is never easy, and "Full House" actress Candace Cameron Bure reveals in her new book, "Reshaping It All," that she was no exception. The actress best known as DJ Tanner on the hit show shared for the first time that she struggled with bulimia in her youth.

Cameron Bure was 11 when "Full House" hit the small screen in 1987 and went through puberty in front of a national audience. By the time the show ended its run in 1995, she was 19 and had gone through all of her life's most awkward stages on television. After the show ended, she admitted to People magazine that she began binging and purging while adjusting to life in Canada with her new husband, NHL hockey player Valeri Bure.

"It's a very dangerous cycle that can just start to consume your life and really take over," she said. "It wasn't about me trying to lose weight. It was all about emotions."

During the fourth season of "Full House," an episode focused on Cameron Bure's character DJ dealt with the teenager going on a crash diet to try to look better for a friend's pool party. DJ tried only eating water popsicles, going to the gym to exercise excessively and then eventually stopped eating altogether for three days and almost collapsed before her family intervened. Though DJ learned that anorexia was the wrong way to solve body-image issues, it seems as if the problem still lingered in Cameron Bure's own psyche.

Now at a healthy weight, 34-year-old Cameron Bure is the star of ABC Family's "Make It or Break It." She said she's in the best shape of her life by healthy means and stays fit thanks to plenty of family exercise with her pro-athlete husband and their three children and a diet philosophy that allows everything, including her self-professed "weakness," dessert, in moderation.

Andrew Garfield Says Tobey Maguire Gave His 'Spider-Man' Blessing

'It was generous of him to reach out and say something, so I'm thankful,' new Spidey tells BBC News.

One would expect that there were some hard feelings after Sony dropped their planned "Spider-Man 4" movie early this year and chose instead to pursue a reboot of the franchise focusing on a teenage Peter Parker. But the star of the upcoming "Spider-Man" film, Andrew Garfield, said that isn't the case.

In fact, during an interview with BBC News, Garfield said that, though he still hasn't met Tobey Maguire, the previous star of the "Spider-Man" franchise has willingly passed the torch to the young British actor.

"[Maguire] sent me a lovely message through a mutual friend," Garfield revealed. "He gave me his support, and it meant a great deal, of course, because part of the reason I love and have continued to love this character was because of his portrayal. To step into those shoes is no mean feat. It was generous of him to reach out and say something, so I'm thankful."

News that Garfield had been chosen to play Spidey was announced on July 1 after a series of casting rumors. This has been a big year for Garfield, as he earned his first Golden Globe nomination for his role in "The Social Network" and is likely to earn an Oscar nod as well. Maguire has been doing pretty well for himself since the news, too.

As a huge fan of Spider-Man since he was 4 years old, Garfield was thrilled to be cast as his comic book hero. This franchise is a big step away from his previous dramatic roles, but Garfield compared Stan Lee's comic books to a "modern kind of Greek mythology" in terms of their themes.

Filming began on the movie two weeks before Christmas, and the star confirmed that the footage is being shot in 3-D for its planned 2012 release. Garfield said footage was shown on the camera monitors in 3-D as well, so director Marc Webb and the rest of the production staff would sit behind the camera wearing their "silly glasses" while he and co-star Emma Stone performed.

As for his casting, Garfield told BBC News, "It's wonderful in theory, isn't it? You kind of go, 'Well, this is going to be great.' But then, of course, in practice, it's obviously a great deal of hard work and a great deal of pressure, but wonderful. It's incredible."

R&B singer Pleasure P spent the majority of the past 12 months lying low after allegations of sexual misconduct with a child. Don't expect the new year to go the same way.

The singer lashed out against his detractors via Twitter on Tuesday; presumably, the targets of his tirade were members of his former group, Pretty Ricky.

"Mutha f---as talking bout let it go i aint letting sh-- go half the world think im something that im not yall dont know what that feels like," he wrote. "I had a year to prepare for war now war is about to begin if n---az thought it was over they got another thing coming hahahahahahaha."

The diatribe began when the singer tweeted that he heard what he characterized as "the worst song ever" and asked his followers to guess who recorded the number. Pretty Ricky recently released a new track, "Cookie Cutter," that's been embraced relatively slowly, considering their past work.

Last December, an anonymous source alleged that Pleasure P molested a young child, which the singer responded by calling the charge against him "vile" and "disgusting." A legal document that appeared online traced some involvement in the case back to members of Pretty Ricky's camp. The group denied any involvement in a statement to MTV News at the time. Pleasure P has been pursuing the party he feels is responsible, though he would not confirm that person's identity.

After a tumultuous year, however, the Grammy-nominated Pleasure P appears to be ready to fight fire with hits. He sent his followers a new track, "She Likes," featuring LaToya Luckett, that appears to be slated for his sophomore set, Pleasure Principles.

"We dont do it for the streets we do it for the sheetz lol what it izzzzzzzz," he wrote before posting the record.

Lindsay Lohan is days away from being released from the rehab facility she's been receiving treatment in for the past few months, and it seems that the troubled starlet is already plotting out her post-rehab future. According to E! News, Lohan is looking to expand her fashion brand.

The website reports that through her 6126 fashion line, which now predominately sells leggings, Lohan wants to start designing footwear. A rep for the fashion line told the site, "She'll finalize everything when she's out." The rep added that the shoes Lohan was mulling over for the line would be "classic, glamorous, timeless with a sexy flair."

An announcement is expected to be made early next year, and the line is expected to debut next fall. A 6126 rep did not respond to MTV News' requests for further information about the report.

Lohan recently found herself in trouble after a worker at the Betty Ford rehab facility pressed charges against the actress for allegedly assaulting her earlier this month. After being fired from her job at the facility, the technician dropped charges against Lohan, saying she does not want "in any way, shape or form to do anything that would violate Lindsay's probation or cause an arrest."

In November, Lohan was let go from an upcoming film project, "Inferno," after she became too much of a liability. "We are withdrawing our offer from Lindsay Lohan," director Matthew Wilder said. "We are currently in negotiations [with another actress] and working out the legalities of bringing her onboard."

Love continued to linger in the air Wednesday (December 29) as Billy Boyd, best known as Pippin the hobbit in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Ali McKinnon.

Though he earned international fame and legions of fans for a quest for a different One Ring, The Evening Times reports Boyd kept the wedding very small and intimate.

Boyd and McKinnon met in 2002 at a pantomime (British winter musical comedy theater) she was appearing in. The two have a 4-year-old son, Jack, and have been living together in Glasgow's West End for several years.

The Evening Times reports the two were married at Oran Mor, just around the corner from their home. The venue sounds like something straight out of Middle Earth, but it's actually a converted church that was turned into a cultural center including a couple of restaurants and bars, a nightclub and, of course, a beautiful private-events space.

Oran Mor wedding coordinator Louise Turner said she'd met with the couple a few times and "they have been lovely to deal with." She said only 30 friends and family members attended the ceremony, and the reception was planned for about 160. "It's not a massive bash, and it will be quite intimate," Turner said.

The "Rings" cast has stayed close since the premiere of "Return of the King" in 2003, and the U.K.'s Daily Mail posted a picture of Elijah Wood and Dominic Monaghan flanking the happy groom at the ceremony.

In addition to his role in the three "Lord of the Rings" films, Boyd won acclaim for his roles in "The Stone of Destiny," "The Flying Scotsman" and "On a Clear Day." He was named Britain's most eligible bachelor, placing ahead of Prince William, who got engaged this year.

Elton John received a better Christmas present than most on Saturday when he and his husband, David Furnish, became proud parents of an adopted baby boy they named Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John. The "Benny and the Jets" singer has now spoken with UsMagazine.com about how it feels to have his longtime desire to become a father come true.

"For many years we have talked about fulfilling one of our greatest wishes by becoming parents," he said. "And now this wish has been granted to us, we feel so blessed and lucky."

While many celebrities are ringing in the New Year with engagement news, John and Furnish celebrated Christmas with the arrival of the 7-pound, 15-ounce baby, which was delivered by an unidentified surrogate. This is the first child for John, 63.

A joint statement released by John and Furnish on Monday announced, "Zachary is healthy and doing well. [We are] overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this very special moment."

John and Furnish had attempted to adopt an HIV-positive 14-month-old boy from the Ukraine last year, but were prevented by government officials because of the pop icon's age and marital status. But that didn't turn the British singer away from his dream to become a father. He and Furnish hired a surrogate for the pregnancy, though they are keeping those details private.

This may be the couple's first child, they are no strangers when it comes to kids. John and his husband serve as godparents to a combined six children, including John Lennon's son Sean, Elizabeth Hurley's son Damien, and David and Victoria Beckham's sons Brooklyn and Romeo.

Want to congratulate John and Furnish? Send your well-wishes to them in the comments.
