Now that Britney Spears has announced that she will be releasing a new album in March 2011, fans must be wondering what her latest musical endeavor will sound like. The as-yet-untitled effort is a follow-up to 2008's well-received Circus, which helped resurrect the singer's career after a dark time in her life. No information regarding the upcoming album has emerged, but Britney's faithful followers have watched her change up her look and sound with each single over the span of her decade-plus career, as she evolved from a bubblegum-pop princess to a sexy dance-club siren. Let's trace Spears' musical journey by taking a look at some of her most memorable tunes.

In 1999, a fresh-faced Spears released " ...Baby One More Time" (produced by Max Martin), the title track off her massive debut album. She got the conversation about her sexuality started thanks to a provocative video in which she danced around in a Catholic school uniform, as well as the song's equally provocative lyrics, where she longingly sang, "My loneliness is killing me/ I must confess, I still believe/ When I'm not with you I lose my mind/ Give me a sign/ Hit me baby one more time." It's to be noted that the song originally was intended for TLC.

In the video for "Oops! ... I Did It Again" (produced by Martin and Rami Yacoub), Spears' smash from the 2000 album of the same name, the pigtails and skirt were gone, replaced by a red catsuit. That visual, as well as the song's lyrical content, reflected Spears' evolution from naughty schoolgirl to intergalactic sex kitten, both in her video and on the song's lyrical content.

For "I'm a Slave 4 U" (produced by the Neptunes) off 2001's Britney, Spears declared her sexual independence. No longer was she just teasing about the idea that she loved the beat of dance music and how sexy it made her feel, instead she was explicitly sharing it with the world. Plus, who could forget all the sweat in that video.

In 2003, Spears teamed up with the Queen of Pop, Madonna, for "Me Against the Music" (produced by Christopher Stewart and Penelope Magnet), the sexy lead single from In the Zone. While the darker, more synth-heavy "Toxic" would become the album's defining tune, "Me Against the Music" picked up where "Slave" left off: Spears battling the demon she has inside of her that just loves to come out on the dance floor.

After a few years of not putting out any music, Spears hit the club again with 2007's "Gimme More" (produced by Danja) off the aptly titled Blackout. Between the release of In the Zone and Blackout, Spears had married, divorced and become a mother — she also had started to act erratically. The track, which relied more heavily on underground dance and electro than most of Spears' previous singles, was a highly sexualized tune about getting it on.

After the darkness of Blackout, Spears got back to her fun and frolicking old ways on the 2008 Circus single "Womanizer" (produced by the Outsyders). The track was a return to form for Spears after the lackluster response to Blackout, and it brought the discussion back around to her music and away from her sometimes topsy-turvy personal life. In the song's video, Spears gets back at a player, and really has the last laugh. The clip also features ffotage of a completely nude Britney in a steamy sauna.

In 2009, Spears shot to the top of the charts with the danceable track "Three" (produced by Martin and Shellback) off The Singles Collection. The tune was an instant smash, and featured Spears robotically singing about a ménage à trois over a club beat.

As for what's next for the singer, very little is known about her forthcoming album, although a couple of her producers have dropped some hints. Dr. Luke said that the music will "be a departure from what you've heard," while Danja called it "hard-hitting, uptempo [and] high-energy." Spears, meanwhile, is very clear about how she thinks the record is sounding. "I AM IN L-O-V-E WITH IT!" she tweeted.

Lady Gaga Keeps MTV News' Top 25 Songs Of 2010 Rolling

On Thursday, MTV News began our countdown of the Top 25 Songs of 2010, revealing our picks for 25 through 18. On Friday (December 3), we're unveiling 17 through 11, a list that includes heavy-hitters like Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and B.o.B.

And if seeing those kinds of names outside the top 10 shocks you, well, you're not alone. But in a year with so many really great songs, some tough decisions had to be made — and MTV News staffers were the ones making the calls. Over the past month, we asked them to come up with their own lists of their 25 favorite songs of 2010; they didn't have to be singles and, really, they didn't even have to be released in 2010. We were looking for any song that made an impact this year, be it commercially, culturally or critically. When we finally received all the lists, we had proof of just what a year it was: More than 300 different songs from some 200 artists were chosen, and it was up to a select few to tabulate the results and create a top 25.

Using a point system — the #1 song on each list received 25 points, the #25 song received 1 point — we spent the next few weeks whittling down the lists. Finally, after some frantic addition (math was never our strong suit) and some rather spirited debate, we had our list — and we feel it's a great one, full of songs by artists both big and small, yet all impactful in some way. It wasn't easy, but we got it done.

This week, we'll roll out 25 through 11, and then on Monday, we'll begin to unveil our top 10. Oh, and we're interested in seeing your lists too. Feel free to add them in the comments below. But now, without further ado, let's look back on the year that was, by continuing our countdown of the Top 25 Songs of 2010:

17. Rihanna, "Rude Boy"
Total Points: 65

A straight-up sex jam from the formerly demure Ms. Fenty, "Rude Boy" was the third single from the Rated R album, but unlike most everything else on the disc, it's not a morbid, morose affair. Rather, it's full of swirling synths and rushing handclaps, jerking along on a dancehall lilt and RiRi's newfound ragga swagger. Straying from the drama that had enveloped her life during the recording of the album, "Rude Boy" is Rihanna looking for love — or, more specifically, a man to give that love to her. And on this night, it may be you. Can you get it up? Is you big enough? No pressure or anything.

16. Lady Gaga, "Alejandro"
Total Points: 77

It's perhaps the most, uh, oddball track in Lady Gaga's increasingly odd arsenal — in that it sounds like Madonna's "La Isla Bonita" (or an Ace of Base B-side) — so it should come as no surprise to anyone that she decided to release it as a single, complete with a nine-minute video in which she swallows a rosary and pouts like Marlene Dietrich. Sure, Katy Perry might not have liked it all that much, but the rest of us marveled at Gaga's bravado, not only to transform a breezy ode to summertime love into a curio from the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, but to carry such a retro-leaning song all the way to the upper reaches of the Hot 100. There truly isn't anything she can't do.

15. Rihanna, "Only Girl (In the World)"
Total Points: 90

By the time she released Loud, Rihanna was telling anyone who would listen that she was done being dire and just wanted to have some fun. And, well, there were few songs released this year as flat-out fun as "Only Girl," a bubbly slice of club pop with — arguably — 2010's best chorus, a super-charged, positively life-affirming thing that somehow sounded best when it was shouted very loudly from the middle of a packed dance floor. Or in the shower. The greatest pop songs work no matter where you hear them, and "Only Girl (In the World)" is most definitely a great pop song.

14. B.o.B (featuring Bruno Mars), "Nothin' on You"
Total Points: 91

The first of B.o.B's two heart-on-his-sleeve hits, "Nothin' on You" is a sweet, almost hokey love letter to the girls that rock both his — and crooner/producer Bruno Mars' — world, and it's notable not only for its downright viral level of catchiness (seriously, listen to it and see how long it takes you to start singing "Na-na-na-nothin' on you, babe!"), but because it introduced the world to two of the year's biggest breakout stars. They'll travel far and wide, but B.o.B and Bruno will always come back home to you. Shout-out to girls who pay their taxes!

13. Kanye West (featuring Bon Iver, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross), "Monster"
Total Points: 94

The year's most appropriately titled track, "Monster" is a menacing, maniacal posse cut, growling along on a beastly backbeat (courtesy of King Kanye) and downright angry verses from Ross (who proudly proclaims himself to be a "fat mother----er"), Jay (who raps about Sasquatch and whines that he doesn't get enough loooove), West (who would like to put your lady parts in a sarcophagus) and, most notably, Nicki (who more than stands up to her heavyweight competition; she K.O.'s them all). If most of 'Ye's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is an exploration of his madcap life, "Monster" is a look deep inside his own psyche. More terrifyingly, it's his snarling superego.

12. B.o.B (featuring Hayley Williams), "Airplanes"
Total Points: 99

Like Kanye, B.o.B isn't afraid to point out the fact that everything in the fabulous life isn't necessarily all that fabulous, that no matter how many ringtones you sell or how many people you surround yourself with, you're still going to be unhappy and, ultimately, alone. So instead you spend your nights wishing on airplanes and holding your phone in your lap, hoping against hope, thinking about how that job as a sandwich artist wasn't really all that bad, in retrospect. And then in the morning, you get up and do it all over again. Because you have to. Swoony and somber, "Airplanes" is proof that even rappers can get emo. Do people even use that word anymore?

11. Katy Perry, "Teenage Dream"
Total Points: 102

The beauty of "Teenage Dream" is its simplicity: It is a song about being helplessly, head-over-heels in love and nothing more. It doesn't matter that, at the time of this writing, Katy Perry is 26 years old, or that she's happily married to a famous British comedian; you still believe her when she's singing it (it probably has something to do with the way she hits the chorus: "You! Make! Me!"). Shoot, as "Glee" proved, you don't even have to be a girl to record a convincing version of the song. "Teenage Dream" proves that, when it comes to matters of the heart, it's always best to keep it simple — truthfully, swooningly so.

MTV News' Top 25 Songs of 2010 countdown continues Monday, when we roll out our top 10 picks. So make sure to keep checking back to see what song we've named #1, and don't forget to share your picks with us in the comments below!

Diddy-Dirty Money Ladies Talk 'SNL' Debut, <i>Vogue</i> Mixtape

'We were ... like, 'Oh my God, that's Robert De Niro!' ladies say of sharing 'Saturday Night Live' episode with Hollywood veteran.

Diddy-Dirty Money's long-awaited concept album, Last Train to Paris, will finally arrive in stores December 14, and the trio are about make their "Saturday Night Live" debut. But there's one thing in particular that makes this time especially thrilling for the Dirty Money ladies, Dawn Richard and Kalenna: meeting Hollywood heavyweight Robert De Niro.

"What's crazy is that Kalenna and I are both huge Robert De Niro fans and he's hosting, and so it's really exciting, because it's a time when the album is coming out December 14," Richard told MTV News on Friday (December 3), the day before the crew is slated to rock the "SNL" stage. "We only got a week and a half left [before the album's release]. It's a really good time for us. Our album ... just really hit the Internet airwaves, and it's crazy because everyone's giving us positive feedback."

Even though one of their screen idols was milling about Studio H8, the ladies resisted the urge to pounce on the Hollywood legend — for now.

"We did get to speak in the hallway. We didn't get any pictures. We didn't want to be groupies or anything. We were inside groupies like, 'Oh my God, that's Robert De Niro!' But we was just trying to get it all contained and stay pretty professional. We were moving. We were trying on clothes that day. We had rehearsal, so we wanted to get the lighting right, the sound," Kalenna explained, adding with a laugh, "But we'll see him tomorrow. We're gonna jump on his back when we see him."

Aside from tackling Oscar-winning actors, the songstresses are readying for the release of the long-delayed Paris project. But judging by the album's star-crammed lineup and creative relationship with a bevy of game-changing celebs, they're probably not the type of broads you'd slap with the "groupie" label.

"It's kind of a payoff for us," Richard said of the album's release. "I know when Kalenna and I speak, we sometimes feel giddy because people like Grace Jones, Trey Songz, Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa, Usher — I mean pioneers of the game said, 'You know what? We want to be on your album,' " the ex-Danity Kane star said, adding that Lil Wayne and Drake also contributed to the record.

The ladies maintain that more than just being a collabo-fest, Paris is a labor of love that has been years in the making, pegging the origin of the project years before the trio's team-up was announced.

"December 14 is gonna be a really big day for us because it's not one year of saying, 'Oh, we're gonna just decide to put an album together.' It's three years of making sure that people digested what we wanted to give them and they really appreciated the sound that was given," Richard said.

After such a long incubation period, the album deserved a stunningly fabulous introduction to the fans. The crew cooked up an exceedingly fierce "prelude" to the record by releasing a collection of sleek Paris snippets this week hosted by fashion's go-to publication, Vogue, and features drops from sartorial superstars like Isaac Mizrahi and longtime Vogue contributor André Leon Talley.

"I think the album represents couture, it represents avant garde, it represents that elegance that is Vogue. We all thought it right that, why not have the best, like Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs, [Vogue Editor in Chief] Anna Wintour — translate what this sound really is?" Richard said. "How many people can say they had Anna Wintour on a record? Not even an album, just a mixtape? It's audacious, disrespectful, and I feel like it's a little bit raw, and that's what Dirty Money is."

Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal: A Timeline Of Their Romance

Five weeks and many lattes later, we look back on the budding romance between the country superstar and the A-list heartthrob.

Five weeks and many coffee-runs later, Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal appear to be the real deal. The couple have been spotted across the country, grabbing lattes and canoodling. And the latest issue of US Weekly proclaims the pair are "in love." So MTV News decided to look back on how the budding romance got started.

It all kicked off in late October when Swift and Gyllenhaal stopped by "Saturday Night Live" in support of that night's host, Swift's bestie, Emma Stone. Swift and Gyllenhaal followed the hangout session with a lunch date in Brooklyn, where they were also joined by Stone.

Shortly after that first sighting, Swift sat down with Ellen DeGeneres and danced around the rumors, saying only, "I'm always optimistic about love."

Then in early November, Jake and Taylor were spotted in Big Sur, California, lounging by a pool and getting sundaes at McConnell's ice cream shop. One source said, "Taylor laughed at everything Jake said," and added that the pair seemed "happy" and "friendly."

What initially appeared to be a casual fling seemed to heat up as rumors hit the Net in mid-November that Gyllenhaal had rented a private jet to fly Swift out to the U.K. to hang out while he promoted "Love and Other Drugs." That date, however, was far more costly than a few scoops of ice cream as it reportedly cost the Hollywood heartthrob more than $150,000. Still, Gyllenhaal's "Other Drugs" co-star Anne Hathaway brushed off the romance rumors.

For Thanksgiving, Taylor and Jake returned to Brooklyn, where they spent the weekend visiting Jake's sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and husband Peter Sarsgaard. Maggie later said spending the holiday with the pop star was "great." The new couple then headed to Nashville, where they were repeatedly spotted, yes, getting coffee and strolling arm in arm.

While Swift continues to remain mum on the subject, she recently gave a review of Gyllenhaal's latest flick, describing "Love and Other Drugs" as "a good movie."

When pressed for more details about Jake, she said, "I write in great detail about my personal life, but I don't talk about it."

What do you think of Taylor and Jake dating? Do they make a good couple? Tell us in the comments!

Barbie Rocks Lady Gaga's Outrageous 2010 Outfits

One unique hallmark of pop-culture superstardom is getting a doll fashioned in her super-fabulous image. But when we're talking about Lady Gaga, one plastic figurine suited up in a signature costume just isn't enough. That's also what the folks at Entertainment Weekly thought, so they tricked out an assortment of Barbies in miniature versions of some of Gaga's most memorable 2010 looks.

In a tribute to one of the magazine's Entertainers of the Year, stylists re-created six of Gaga's most headline-grabbing ensembles for the foot-tall diva. Barbie is wrapped up in strips of raw meat for a doll-size take on Gaga's meat dress from the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, her fleshy booties affixed to her feet with dental floss and a miniature Cher with big hair and a skimpy bodysuit handing her a Moonman in front of a VMA step-and-repeat.

Barbie is also outfitted in her own version of the lacy beekeeper-chic look Gaga rocked to attend her sister's high school graduation. Lending the image a sense of authenticity, the picture of Barbie in a cream-colored jumpsuit and voluminous black veil was actually snapped at the Germanottas' alma mater on New York's Upper East Side.

Another of the songstress' show-stopping NYC appearances is revisited, as Barbie dons a mini-dress made of brown human-hair extensions and ropes of sparkly jewels with a mic attached to her hand, paying homage to Gaga's intimate show at the Plaza Hotel's Oak Room in September.

Both Gaga and longtime CNN anchor Larry King get the Mattel treatment in black-and-white collared shirts, suspenders, spectacles and slicked-back locks to commemorate the pop sensation's interview in June.

Barbie gets raunchy on a jail-cell bed — legs askew and hand on her crotch — swathed in a few strategically placed slivers of a yellow rain poncho similar to Brian Lichtenberg's creation for Gaga and Beyoncé's "Telephone" video. Gaga's cigarette-packed shades and chain-link body jewelry are also scaled down for Barbie for another "Telephone" scene. The iconic doll also gives a sartorial shout-out to Gaga's partner-in-music-video-crime, sporting bangs and a cowboy hat like Beyoncé's character, Honey B.

Cee Lo's latest hit, the Grammy-nominated, lyrically bird-flipping jam "F--- You," is all about unapologetically sticking it to a former flame. But back when the MC was a teen, he was fairly well-behaved, spending a lot of time toiling at a bevy of random gigs.

"When I was 17, I did just about every odd job that you can think of. I worked for a temporary agency called Talent Tree, and they would call you as availabilities came in," Cee Lo recalls in the latest episode of "When I Was 17," which premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. "I worked at a bank. I worked at a shoe warehouse. I worked for Xerox. All we do is make copies of documents all night. It paid pretty good to do that too."

The ex-Goodie Mob MC also remembers a gig at a snack-packaging facility that churned out compact cartons of assorted salty munchies.

"I remember one that was really funny — I worked in a warehouse where they were putting together the Frito-Lay variety boxes of chips," The Lady Killer singer explains. "I was on the end and I would push them through the plastic part where they would kinda do the overlay of plastic."

The "Closet Freak" belter recalls an incident in which the chips took a messy detour on their road to plastic-wrapped destiny.

"One time I look back over the conveyor belt, and I just remember potato chips just falling all over the floor," he says. As the chips slid from the conveyor belt, Cee Lo decided it was time to make his exit as well.

"I was like, 'Oh, no. I'm out!' " he says.

"When I Was 17" — this week featuring Cee Lo, Audrina Patridge and Miss J — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.

Kate Bosworth Calls 'Warrior's Way' 'Hodgepodge' Of Genres

Those who've seen the trailers for "The Warrior's Way" may be confused as to what genre the highly stylized actually fits into. Turns out there are so many things going on even the film's stars are finding it difficult to categorize the ninja/Western-style flick.

"I suppose I've been sort of describing it as outside the box," Kate Bosworth told MTV News. "Even reading the screenplay was a really unique experience, and that is what really excited me about the film," she said. "I've never read anything like it before, so the idea of an audience never seeing a film like that before is always an initial thrill going into making a movie."

Bosworth described the film, which opened on Friday (December 3), as a cross-culture, cross-genre extravaganza. "Visually, it's just so beautiful," the actress said. "You have cowboys and ninjas, and clowns and babies and Westerns, and it's just a hodgepodge of excitement happening in this movie."

Speaking of excitement, Bosworth experienced plenty on set, particularly during her character's fight sequences and the training required to execute them.

"I would've liked to have had more time [training], to be totally honest with you, because this film sort of happened really quickly," Bosworth explained. "It was sort of one of those things that you read and everyone came onboard and then you're flying to New Zealand and training and trying to keep up, and then shooting.

"I trained as much as possible, obviously, because I wanted to be prepared," she added. "The sequences are so intricate. They're more of a dance with the other actor than a fight, even. So it was almost like learning ballet, I think, more than martial arts."

"The Warrior's Way" also stars Danny Huston and Korean superstar Jang Dong Gun.

With 2010 coming to a close, M.I.A. has already announced her plans for the new year: Flood the Web with some new music. On Friday (December 3), the electro-dance superstar tweeted that she's going to drop a mixtape on December 31.

"Vicky leekx mixtape coming new years eve!" she wrote. The indie-music luminary didn't elaborate on the sound of the project but added that she plans to churn out a suite of tracks that will make an impact. "Layin bad minds to rest 2010!"

The "Born Free" artist has been trekking across Europe on tour and is slated to be on the road until December 12, according to her MySpace page. But it appears she was able to squeeze in some studio time while ripping stages overseas. And although her politically charged lyricism and genre-smashing beats have captivated her fans, the story behind the production of her music often rivals the British star's singular vibe.

M.I.A.'s 2007 pastiche of reggae-inflected, worldly electro, Kala, reflected the global sensibility of recording pretty much everywhere on Earth other than her homebase at the time, Brooklyn, while stuck in immigration limbo. For 2010's /\/\/\Y/\ she pretty much stayed put, but still banged out the album in dramatic fashion: hunkering down in a custom-built studio beneath her home.

"I built a room under the house that was kind of like a cave; you had to go down into it," she told MTV News in July. "And then I just sort of made it as creative as possible for me — I was just sort of making the furniture and making the pictures, covered all the walls with stuff that I made, so it feels like every step of the way, I was working on the layers of this sort of environment."

Producer talks to Mixtape Daily about Eminem-featuring Detox track.

Behind the Beats: Alex Da Kid

At this rate, Alex Da Kid might want to consider changing his name to Alexander Da Great pretty soon.

The British beatsmith was nominated for five Grammys this week for his work on B.o.B's blockbuster hit "Airplanes" and Eminem's chart-topper "Love the Way You Lie." He also produced Nicki Minaj's "Massive Attack."

While he only has a few placements under his belt, the producer has a knack for knocking what he does do out of the park.

His next big single comes courtesy of his work with Dr. Dre.

The veteran hip-hop producer invited Alex Da Kid to work with him on a track for his forthcoming Detox project, "I Need a Doctor" featuring Eminem.

"That was amazing," ADK told Mixtape Daily about the experience. "He's one of my favorite producers of all time. Everybody knows how much of a perfectionist he is: He's been working on his album for 11 years. For him to bring me in, trust me, not micro-manage me, and let me bring what I do to the table, I can't even describe how that makes me feel."

The song recently arrived online, and on the number, Eminem attempts to turn the tables on his mentor. The MC credited Dre with being one of the people to help him out of his funk the past few years, so on "I Need a Doctor," Em looks to repay the producer.

"It hurts when I see you struggle/ You come to me with ideas/ You say they're pieces, so I'm puzzled," Eminem raps on the track. " 'Cause the sh-- I hear is crazy/ But you're either getting lazy/ Or don't believe in you no more/ Seem like your own opinion is not one you can form/ Can't make a decision/ You keep questioning yourself, second guessing/ It's almost like you're begging for my help/ Like I'm your leader; you're supposed to be my mentor/ I can endure no more/ Don't you remember who you are?"

"I think it's gonna be huge," Alex Da Kid said. "It's just my opinion, but it's one of my favorite songs that I did and just what it means for hip-hop."

Next Wave of Flav

» On T.I.'s "Castle Walls": "I feel like they both relate to the song: Both T.I. and Christina Aguilera are on a comeback, and they could really relate to the message on the hook. And they're both iconic, to me, so you can never count an icon out."

» On Diddy-Dirty Money's "Coming Home": "That's the most-added at radio over the last three weeks, which is cool."

» On Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie (Part II)": "That may be a single soon."

'America's Next Top Model' Coach Miss J Recalls Big Break On 'When I Was 17'

'I put on this attitude,' the runway trainer says of his Jean Paul Gaultier encounter as a teen.
By Jocelyn Vena

These days, Miss J is as recognizable to people outside the fashion community as he is to those inside, thanks to his signature walk and sassy attitude displayed week after week as a runway coach on "America's Next Top Model." But when he was a teenager, he was just trying to figure out how to pronounce Jean-Paul Gaultier's name.

"When I was 17, I became very into the fashion world," he recalls on this week's episode of "When I Was 17," which also features "Hills" alum Audrina Patridge and Cee Lo Green. "So one day, my friend said, 'Oh my God, I just read in The New York Times that designer Jean-Paul Gaultier is coming to New York, and he's doing a fashion show. He's using models from the street. Maybe you should go see him.' And I didn't know who he was."

Besides not knowing who the French designer was, he also didn't think he had what it took to model. "And I thought, 'Model?' " he recalled, noting that he didn't think he was "perfect" enough for that career. " 'My skin's too dark, my nose is too wide, my lips are too full.' But I thought, 'Why not?'

"I went to Bergdorf Goodman for the casting," he continued. "There was hundreds of people waiting. I thought to myself, 'What's gonna make me stand out?' and I just thought, 'Be yourself, personality.' I had nothing else to sell."

His encounter with the designer was a bit rocky, but it all worked out in the end, thanks to his signature strut. "When I got to see him, he said, 'Hello.' And I said, 'Hello.' He put me in clothing, and I remember I wasn't wearing underwear that day. I wasn't wearing panties, but I hid in the corner, put on the outfit and I put on this attitude... but I got the show."

"When I Was 17" — this week featuring Cee Lo, Audrina Patridge and Miss J — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.

For Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian And More Celebs, 'Digital Death' Continues

Artists haven't reached $1 million mark to resurrect their online profiles.
By Gil Kaufman

The original plan was for artists such as Usher, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Hudson and Ryan Seacrest to stage their "digital deaths" until $1 million was raised for Alicia Keys' BuyLife.org charity effort. The campaign kicked off in coordination with Wednesday's World AIDS Day and included the social-media-savvy stars staging a Digital Life Sacrifice by signing off their Facebook, Twitter and other online communication sites until the fund-raising goal was reached.

According to a ticker on the BuyLife.org site, as of Friday (December 3) at noon, more than $183,493 had been raised in the effort to buy back the stars' online presence.

Kardashian was among the participants who posed for posters bringing attention to the effort. In hers, she lies in a casket while wearing a cocktail dress and clutching her cell phone. Celebrities such as mega-tweeter Seacrest agreed to sign off all social networks on Tuesday, and as of Friday, he was staying true to his pledge. The top tweet on Seacrest's site read, "Ryan Seacrest would love to chat but he's dead. Buy back his life & fight HIV/AIDS."

A spokesperson for the campaign could not be reached at press time to give an update on what the plan is should the $1 million goal not be reached. With the target figure still on the distant horizon, it appeared that it could take some time to rack up the $1 million and it's unclear how long the stars — many of whom use social media daily to communicate with fans and break news — are committed to staying digitally deceased.

But even before he digitally died, Seacrest was already sweating his ability to unplug. "One hour until I sign off Twitter," he wrote Tuesday night. "I'm not gonna like not being connected with u guys! Argh ... how do I manage Twitter withdrawals??"

At press time, Gaga's Twitter page was also stalled out with multiple pleas posted Wednesday to donate to the charity.

The beneficiary of the campaign, Keys' Keep a Child Alive, helps provide money for medical care and support services for children and families impacted by HIV and AIDS in Africa and India.

Janelle Monáe and Keys' husband, producer Swizz Beatz, are among the other stars who are participating in the stunt, along with the cast of MTV's "The Buried Life," Elijah Wood, Jay Sean, Khloé Kardashian and photographer David LaChapelle.

"It's so important to shock you to the point of waking up," Keys told The Associated Press. "It's not that people don't care or it's not that people don't want to do something, it's that they never thought of it quite like that. ... This is such a direct and instantly emotional way and a little sarcastic, you know, of a way to get people to pay attention."

Keys founded Keep a Child Alive in 2003, and on September 30, she and co-founder Leigh Blake launched Buy Life. As part of the campaign, they've issued a $35 gray T-shirt with a barcode on it, and users who've uploaded the Stickybits or Wimo applications to their smartphones can donate $10 to the charity by scanning any Buy Life shirt with their devices.

"This Shirt Fights AIDS," reads the back of the shirt. "Scan the bar code or Text 'BUYLIFE' to 90999 to Join the Fight." It's unlikely that Gaga — who has 24 million Facebook fans — and the others will be digitally deceased for long, as between them the celebs have nearly 29 million followers just on Twitter.

Text the first name of the celebrity you are mourning to 90999, and $10 will instantly be donated to the cause.

When Jamie Foxx throws a party, you can be sure he's going to have a star-studded guest list. And what better way to celebrate the holidays than with a new studio album from the Grammy- and Academy Award-winning double threat, on which he brings his A-list pals along for the ride?

Slipping in just under the 2010 wire on December 21 will be Foxx's third studio album for J Records, Best Night of My Life, led by the first single "Fall for Your Type" featuring Drake. According to his label, the follow-up to Foxx's multiplatinum 2008 album Intuition, which spawned the club staple "Blame It," will feature his same patented mix of R&B ballads and club tracks.

Among the songs on the 15-track album are "Best Night of My Life" (featuring Wiz Khalifa), "Living Better Now" (featuring Rick Ross), "Freak" (featuring Rico Love), "Hit It Like This," "Yep Dat's Me" (featuring Ludacris and Soulja Boy Tell'em), "Gorgeous," "15 Minutes," "Sleeping Pill," "Rejoice," "All Said and Done" and the hidden bonus track "Sex on the Beach."

Foxx recently promised "Extra" that "there's a song on there for every woman," making sure his favorite constituency knows he hasn't forgotten about them.

The album will also feature "Winner," which MTV reported in March will celebrate a reunion of T.I. and Justin Timberlake, who were last heard together on Tip's "Dead and Gone."

The track was leaked last year with just JT and Foxx's voices on it, but just as he was prepping for release from prison earlier this year, the new version with T.I.'s verse hit New York radio. "I'm the fresher, go ask whoever that," Tip raps on the song. "King back, money long as an old Cadillac." It's unlikely the trio will be able to perform the song live anytime soon, though, as the King of the South is back behind bars for 11 months for a probation violation.

Among the producers who worked on Foxx's new album are Eric Hudson (Trey Songz, Brandy), Bink! (Kanye West, Rick Ross), Danja (Snoop Dogg, Pink), Rico Love (Beyoncé, Usher), Noah "40" Shebib (Drake, Lil Wayne) and Malay & KP (Fantasia).

50 Cent Calls Michael Jackson Collabo The '2010 Version' Of 'Thriller'

In less than two weeks, Michael Jackson's first posthumous album, Michael, will hit stores and include a string of unreleased MJ tracks. The 10-song set includes a collaboration between the iconic performer and 50 Cent.

In a candid interview that appeared on MJJackson.com, 50 Cent reminiscences about how the song "Monster" came about.

"I didn't have the opportunity to physically be in Michael Jackson's presence," Fif said. "But my DJ, Whoo Kid, he had the opportunity to actually meet Mike, because he was interested in working with me and he said that he had something he wanted me to actually hear, a song he created. He thought it would be perfect for us to collaborate on and then he put me on the telephone."

While 50 has teamed up with a slew of artists in the past, he said the Jackson opportunity was unlike any other. "I don't usually get nervous, because I really don't care about a lot of the artists," he said. "But Mike is special. He's different. I don't know how to explain it."

After the shocking news of Jackson's sudden death, Fif received a call to come into the studio and perform his portion of the track. Once in the studio, the rapper worked with producer Teddy Riley (Jackson's Dangerous) on the song. "When I sat down and listened to the actual song, I was excited. I said, 'This is the 2010 version of "Thriller," ' " the rapper recalled. A snippet of the track (minus 50) reportedly leaked onto the Internet just a few days ago.

Despite not being able to actually record the track with Jackson, 50 Cent intended to make his mark on the song. "I missed an opportunity to be on a record not just with a great artist, but a legend," he lamented. "So I wanted more, and I made adjustments to my cadence so I don't sound like I sound on music that people have previously heard from me, because I'm adjusting to the production."

While not everyone has been excited about the posthumous release, Fif thinks it will be welcomed by most. "I think this album is more special," he said. "It'll be embraced different because it's the last of really great material that Mike created, so I think people will want it to go in their actual collection to go in their Michael Jackson material. It's a great example of how the art and the material will last longer than we will."

Last July, the MC told MTV News that he was inspired by a piece of artwork featuring the legendary performer for the cover of his Forever King mixtape. "When Michael Jackson passed, there was a piece of artwork that had 'King of Pop, King of Rap' with me and his pictures," he said." "That's what gave me the concept of the artwork. There's a real human skull that's got diamonds embedded in it."

Nicole Kidman Talks Babies, Nightmares At 'Rabbit Hole' Premiere

'I was having nightmares and I was really shaken,' she tells MTV News about tackling difficult role.
By Eric Ditzian

Several years ago, when Nicole Kidman was pregnant with her daughter, she began developing a big-screen adaptation of "Rabbit Hole," the Pulitzer Prize-winning play about parents suffering through the unimaginable loss of their young son.

The experience of bringing a life into the world while simultaneously shepherding a project about a life lost was an intensely affecting one for the actress, as she explained on Thursday at the film's red-carpet premiere. When production on "Rabbit Hole" began, daughter Sunday Rose was a year old, and Kidman found it difficult to let go of the characters at the end of each day.

"[It] deeply affects me," she told MTV News. "There were times when I woke in the middle of the night and I was having nightmares and I was really shaken by it. And that's when I know when something's really seeped into my subconscious and is disturbing me."

Co-star Aaron Eckhart — who plays Kidman's husband, one half of a couple being torn apart by the death of their child — similarly found himself reevaluating the idea of marriage and fatherhood. "It made me reflect on parenthood," he explained. "I'm not a father and I'm not married. Maybe someday I will be. I just put myself in that position of losing my son and almost losing my wife. I learned a lot about grief."

As dark as the material can be at times, the red carpet was anything but a depressing affair. Kidman was all smiles as she posed for pictures and answered questions alongside her husband, country music star Keith Urban. Jon Hamm, Parker Posey and co-star Sandra Oh were also on-hand for the celebration. Director John Cameron Mitchell pointed out that the festive mood was in keeping with the overall message of "Rabbit Hole," which opens in limited release on December 17.

"It isn't depressing," he said. "You are going to intense places, but everybody loves a good cry. Some people get that out in therapy, but many Americans do it through their entertainment. And this is an entertaining film despite its heaviness and it does end up with a lot of hope."

BROOKLYN, New York — The Big Easy is ready to take on Brooklyn.

On Friday (December 3), some of New Orleans' signature music artists kick off the Red Hot + New Orleans festival at the borough's BAM Howard Gilman Opera House. The two-day music cabaret will unload legendary acts including Ivan Neville, Irma Thomas, Dr. John, rap duo Partners-N-Crime, world-renowned producer Mannie Fresh and the show's musical director, , with his Orleans Avenue bandmates.

Andrews' first stab as the production's musical director comes just days after snagging his first Grammy nod in the best contemporary jazz album category for his acclaimed CD Backatown. The trumpeter, whose performance style is often described as recalling the "lips of Louis Armstrong," also appeared as himself in a recurring role on the HBO show "Treme" earlier this year. Trombone says sharing the Brooklyn stage with some of his city's top acts will be an honor.

"[I'm] happy to be here representing New Orleans," Trombone told MTV News backstage after a rehearsal at BAM. "I'm making a donation to the AIDS task force of New Orleans, presenting the music of New Orleans and doing it for a good cause."

Trombone says delivering the classic New Orleans sound to an audience of mostly New Yorkers isn't difficult at all.

"I get to play some of my favorite songs that I grew up on with some of the people that wrote the songs, like Ivan Neville. The world-famous Mannie Fresh [is here]," he said. "I'm honored to be here and there's not much directing I have to do. They're all legends."

Neville shares Trombone's excitement about playing alongside his regional peers at Red Hot.

"Glad to be a part of such a cool thing with some New Orleans legends," Neville said. "Young legends. It's an honor to be here. It's a wonderful thing."

The Red Hot series plans to donate part of the proceeds from the event to New Orleans' NO/AIDS Task Force in commemoration of World AIDS Day. Mannie Fresh says the event is every music lover's dream.

"They got people like Irma Thomas, Dr John," he said. "That's crazy, [getting] that in one place for a good cause. Come and enjoy yourself. New Orleans is in the house."

Soulja Boy Makes Wishes Known With 'Grammy'

SB tells 'RapFix Live' he wants The DeAndre Way to show 'Soulja Boy has grown, he's developed, he's matured, and he's going places.'

Soulja Boy Tell'em has gone on record with his goal to be taken more seriously as a lyricist.

Kanye West and 50 Cent are two peers of the young rapper who have co-signed his talent, which he first showed off in 2007 with the playful "Crank That (Soulja Boy)."

On his new album, The DeAndre Way, however, SB is yearning to be seen as more than just an artist who has an affinity for making the teen set dance.

"Grammy," featuring Ester Dean, is a slow-turning contemplation of his career and his desire to win one of the music industry's most-coveted awards.

"That was really to strike that emotion, to tell that story," Soulja Boy told MTV News during an appearance on "RapFix Live" on Thursday. "This album, I want people to take from it that Soulja Boy has grown, he's developed, he's matured, and he's going places."

In the past year, SB has stepped up to the plate to rhyme alongside a higher caliber of rapper than ever before, from Drake to 50 Cent.

The G-Unit superstar has long been an admirer of his labelmate, which SB talked about with MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway.

"To have 50 have my back, that's definitely exciting; it's an achievement. 50 don't mess with no rappers," Soulja explained. "When I came out, there [was] a lot of people that was hating on me [and] felt like I wasn't real to the game — don't hate the player, hate the game. 50 shed light on me, and he came to my defense."

'Black Swan': The Reviews Are In!

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 09:20 AM PST

One critic gushes that the psychological drama and its star, Natalie Portman, are 'unmissable and unforgettable.'
By Eric Ditzian

Only folks in eight select major metropolitan cities across North America will have a chance to see "Black Swan" this weekend. And as for the weekend after that, unless you're a proud resident of, say, Detroit or happen to be swooping into St Louis for a little holiday, you'll still be out of luck. The rest of the country will have to wait a full two weeks from now, as Fox Searchlight slowly rolls out this Oscar darling about the ultra-competitive world of professional ballet.

Is it any consolation to say that even if you can't see "Black Swan" this weekend, you can at least read the thoughts of those who have? Well, you can, because reviews for Darren Aronofsky's follow-up to "The Wrestler" have been pouring in. Here's what the critics are saying about "Black Swan."

The Story

"Nina Sayers (Natalie Portman) has obsessively perfected her flawless technique at an unnamed New York company for years when she's finally considered for the lead in an upcoming production of 'Swan Lake.' As her manipulative artistic director, Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel), observes, Nina possesses all the innocence and self-control of the Swan Queen, but his 'stripped-down, visceral' version of the ballet demands that she also portray the Black Queen. She's a sinuous, primal persona he doesn't think Nina can pull off. It's difficult to disagree: With her breathy whisper of a voice, cosseted home life with overprotective mother Erica (Barbara Hershey) and wide-eyed sexual naïveté, Nina remains a child-woman swaddled in feathery scarves and downy pink shrugs. What's more, a tattooed ingenue named Lily (Mila Kunis, in a smashing breakout performance) has just joined the company, presenting a loose-limbed, smoky-eyed threat to Nina's tightly wound rectitude." — Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post

The Performances

"Portman's performance is a revelation from this actress who was a 13-year-old charmer in 'Beautiful Girls' (1996). She has never played a character this obsessed before, and never faced a greater physical challenge (she prepared by training for 10 months). Somehow she goes over the top and yet stays in character: Even at the extremes, you don't catch her acting. The other actors are like dance partners holding her aloft. Barbara Hershey provides a perfectly calibrated performance as a mother whose love is real, whose shortcomings are not signaled, whose own perfectionism has all been focused on the creation of her daughter." — Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

The Direction

"As for Aronosfky, this is the stripped down and gritty director he became for 'The Wrestler,' on display yet again to showcase yet another amazing individual performance. 'Black Swan' is eerily beautiful in its best moments, but if you've seen Aronofsky's older work, you know he's capable of even more complex and layered visual wizardry. Instead he's restrained, for the most part letting the film's haunting performance from Portman speak for itself, resorting to visual trickery only in careful measure." — Josh Tyler, Cinema Blend

The Dissenters

"There's something demented about 'Black Swan' and not in a good way. It's excessive and psychologically imprecise, coarse where it should be refined and too much like a David Cronenberg horror movie in places where restraint and intellectual rigor are called for ... The line between realized artistry and mental disorder can be blurry, and this is where the filmmakers, particularly Aronofsky, lose control and come near turning 'Black Swan' into a full-blown psycho movie. Every object becomes a potential weapon. Blood is everywhere. Yet the more flamboyant the movie gets, the less dramatic, and the movie's lack of clarity in its fundamental psychological terms becomes a letdown. Yes, she's cracking up, but how she's cracking up becomes muddled." — Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle

The Final Word

"In lesser hands, the plot could be campy soapsuds. OK, sometimes it is. But Aronofsky, taking off from a script by Mark Heyman, Andres Heinz and John J. McLaughlin, is a fearless visionary ... 'Black Swan' is a high-wire act for Aronofsky and Portman as they lure us into Nina's tormented mind. The swirling hand-held camerawork of Matthew Libatique, coupled with a Clint Mansell score that channels Tchaikovsky's ecstatic dread, adds to the whirlwind. At the center of it all is Portman. The actress, 29, trained in ballet as a child and drilled hard for nearly a year to master the choreography and do most of her own dancing. Portman's portrait of an artist under siege is unmissable and unforgettable. So is the movie. You won't know what hit you." — Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

Drake Calls Four Grammy Nominations 'Dream Come True'

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 09:54 AM PST

Rapper hopes to make it to the stage to 'thank the people that have done so much for me.'
By James Dinh

Drake's life has certainly changed in recent years. And like many musicians, the singer/rapper has dreamed of the moment when he'd walk up to the podium to accept the music industry's most coveted award: a Grammy. The Toronto lyricist spoke with Global Grind about his four Grammy nods, including Best Rap Album for Thank Me Later.

"It's always, to get any type of Grammy accolade or anything, it's cliché but it's a dream come true in the literal sense, that thing you have between sleeping and waking up," the rapper said. "That time spent I used to think about being on the stage and being able to thank the people that have done so much for me in my life."

Drake described a long-standing dream he's had since his acting days on "Degrassi: The Next Generation." "I've been having this dream, I never knew where it was and it never really specified what the award was," he continued. "But I knew it was a night I could let the people know — the people in my life know — how much they have done with me. To have four opportunities to have that chance is incredible."

In addition to his Best Rap nod, Drizzy is also up for Best New Artist, Best Rap Solo Performance for "Over" and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for "Fancy" with T.I. and Swizz Beatz.

Fans better get used to seeing the 24-year-old rapper hit award-show stages, as it was recently announced that Drake will take hosting duties at the 2011 Juno Awards, which air live on CTV on Sunday, March 27.

With academy and industry acclaim under his belt, Drake also tells the hip-hop blog that he understands the ups and downs of media scrutiny. "I'll be honest with you, some of these gossip sites, it's scary how accurate they actually might be or are," he said. "Sometimes they really have real things to report first. But then there's other times it's just a slow day. I usually pop up on the slow days, to be honest with you, 'cause they say some sh-- and I have to say where did you even get that from."

He goes on to explain that certain media outlets "pride themselves on trying to tear down artists," adding that it's hurtful to see industry newbies undergo such early career tribulations.

The 53rd annual Grammy Awards air February 13 on CBS at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Do you think Drake will pick up any awards at this year's Grammys? Sound off below!

Can't wait for the November 18, 2011, release of part one of "Breaking Dawn"? Well, on Thursday some bootleg footage of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart shooting scenes for the flick hit the Internet.

The footage was shot in Brazil, where Bella and Edward's honeymoon scenes take place. It shows the duo kneeling on a beach and sharing some unheard dialogue before kissing. They go through the scene a few times before they break and walk away from the spot where they're shooting. Stewart is wearing a blue sweater over a bathing suit, while Pattinson sports a white tank top and shorts, an outfit visible in photographs posted online.

While these aren't official images from the film, last month an official photo from "Breaking Dawn" was released for public consumption. In it, Bella's hand is holding feathers from a pillow that Edward destroyed while the pair had sex for the first time on Isle Esme. Stewart and Pattinson were also spotted kissing in Rio de Janeiro last month while shooting more scenes for the film.

Despite all the sexiness that could take place in the finale, Summit Entertainment has assured fans that the "Breaking Dawn" films won't be rated R, instead opting to keep the action PG-13. The final installment of the "Twilight" franchise, "Breaking Dawn, Part 2," is set for a November 2012 release, capping off four years and five films. Both parts of the final book are being directed by Bill Condon.

Aaron Eckhart Says He Won't Be In 'Dark Knight Rises'

'I was heartbroken,' actor says of learning that he won't return as Harvey Dent.
By Eric Ditzian

Back in July at San Diego Comic-Con, , asking the director whether he'd be cast in the next installment of the franchise. "You know, I'm available," Eckhart laughed.

Nolan, it seems, heard that call, because he ended up chatting with Eckhart about "The Dark Knight Rises" and finally telling the actor, who played crusader-turned-bad-guy Harvey Dent, whether or not his services would be needed.

"Chris and I had a meeting, on the beach, just the two of us," Eckhart told MTV News on the red carpet for "Rabbit Hole" on Thursday. "I said, 'Chris, a lot of people are asking me if I'm in the next 'Batman.' And Chris said, 'Yes?' I said, 'Am I?' He looked at me and he said, 'No.' "

Wait, a meeting on the beach? Is this a true story?

"It actually is," Eckhart replied. "It's even weirder than I'm explaining it."

So there you have it: official confirmation that Dent won't show his two faces on the big screen come the film's July 2012 release. But, um, what of this strange beachside meeting?

"We found ourselves alone on the beach together on a stormy day and he delivered the news to me," Eckhart explained. "And I was heartbroken. I was heartbroken. But Chris has his reasons and my life must go on."

As Eckhart explained this summer, Nolan's original plan was to bring back Heath Ledger's Joker for the new film. But Ledger's death in 2008 of course changed that plan. Nolan will be starting over, with a new villain or possibly more than one. And that's fine with Eckhart.

"Honestly, it was Heath's movie to go on," he told us Thursday. "We had a great movie. I'm so honored to be a part of that movie. I know Chris has got something in store that is going to blow everybody away."
