NEW YORK — At 7:30 p.m. on the nose, the house lights went down, the girls went crazy, and Jingle Ball 2010 got the party started Friday (December 10) for a rousing night of music and fun at Madison Square Garden.

Kim Kardashian, in a white body-hugging dress, kicked off the night's festivities by noting that it was her first time ever at MSG, then bringing Taio Cruz to the stage. He played "Break Your Heart" and "Dynamite," and for his track "Higher," he was joined by Travie McCoy, though the song usually features British pop princess Kylie Minogue.

Jesse McCartney was on hand to proudly invite Bruno Mars to the stage. The Grammy nominee played drums for an excited crowd.

He played "Billionaire," and the entire room sang along as McCoy joined him for their ode to getting famous. The crowd ate it up. He then slowed it down with "Grenade." The set ended with "Just the Way You Are" to the delight of the crowd.

Jay Sean beat-boxed, then helped introduce Paramore to the stage. The band brought some loud, boombastic rock to the show thanks to a set that included "Brick by Boring Brick."

"Anybody else care to join the party tonight?" frontwoman Hayley Williams asked the crowd before blaring out "Misery" and inviting a fan onstage to sing with her. They finished it off with "The Only Exception."

B.o.B was next to the stage. The rapper got real with his track "Don't Let Me Fall." Then the crowd went insane for "Magic." As if that didn't get the girls hyped enough, Bruno Mars returned for "Beautiful Girls."

"Everybody put your hands up," B.o.B told the crowd before playing his massive "Airplanes" with Williams by his side.

The crowd went nuts when Flo Rida introduced Selena Gomez for her dance-tastic performance of "Round and Round." Gomez looked like a true disco queen in her little black dress and heels.

She thanked Katy Perry for her next track, "Rock God," then got trancey for her song "A Year Without Rain," and ended her set with "Naturally," crediting it as the reason she got a spot on the radio tour.

The show took an adult contemporary and old school turn when Michael Buble arrived to croon tunes such as "Hollywood" and "Haven't Met You Yet," and for "Let it Snow," he got in the crowd and paid homage to the season, dusting MSG with snow confetti.

Katy Perry brought the girl power in her performance, which featured ballerinas, Christmas trees, Santa Clauses and Perry popping out of a gift box in a latex toy soldier costume for "Hot n Cold."

"This is Madison Square Garden!" she shouted to the crowd. "This is something I've dreamt about for a long time."

"This next song is about falling in love with a foreigner, like far away ... Not even in England," she said to introduce "E.T."

After a jazzy version of "I Kissed a Girl," she proudly proclaimed, "Let's dedicate this West Coast anthem to the East Coast right now," ending her performance with "California Gurls" as red and green confetti fell from the ceiling.

Pauly D prompted the loudest screams of the night when he introduced Enrique Iglesias. The Latin pop star played the clean version of "Tonight," followed by older jams such as "Escape" and "Hero," serenading a girl from the audience.

With the swooning complete, Iglesias ended with fan favorite "I Like It."

Kardashian returned, telling the crowd, "I think I'm catching a fever," before the night's most-anticipated performance: Justin Bieber.

In a plaid top and khakis, the teen star got his party started with "Somebody to Love." Bieber was in full swagga mode, dancing like a seasoned pro and getting the crowd hyped.

"The last time I was here for Jingle Ball, I had a broken foot, and this year, I'm here and both my limbs are working," he joked. "We shot a movie here, and it's coming out in February, and I think we should show you a preview."

The trailer transitioned to "Never Say Never." Bieber even brought out a surprise guest, Jayden Smith, to join him.

"I had someone who's really special to me, and I decided to bring him out," he then announced, calling for Sean Kingston for "Eenie Meenie." The girls went crazy as the pals went back and forth on the cut.

"I think I want to slow it down a little bit. My acoustic album had an extra song on it that's really important to me. But first, I need everyone to close their eyes and 'Pray,' " he said before the inspirational ballad.

He then teased the excited crowd, saying, "I think we should do one more song," and listing some of his track names.

He settled on "Baby." "Who wants to be my baby?" he asked. He ended the night with showers of fireworks and confetti, saying, "You guys are amazing."

Usher's 'OMG' Is MTV News' #1 Song Of 2010!

Club smash, featuring will.i.am, tops our list of the Top 25 Songs of the year.

MTV News' Top 25 Songs of 2010 has reached an end. We've already counted down the rest, and now it's time to get to the best: Usher's "OMG," the song that perfectly sums up the past 12 months of popular music — and makes you wanna move until you can't move no more.

If 2010 proved anything, it's that a DJ really can save your life ... or at least get you to #1 on the Hot 100. After years of staring at each other from across the room, hip-hop, pop and R&B all decided to finally get in bed with dance music, and the results weren't always pretty, but they were certainly successful. To date, only 17 songs have made it to the top spot of Billboard's singles chart in 2010, and nearly two-thirds of them — from Ke$ha's "Tik Tok" to Far East Movement's "Like a G6" — were, in some way, dance songs.

In that regard, no song better sums up 2010 pop music quite like Usher's "OMG," the dance song to end all dance songs. Sure, it may not have matched the swagger of Kanye West's "Power," the snarl of Rick Ross' "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)" or the inbox-clogging spread of Cee Lo's "F--- You," but it didn't have to. None of those songs went to #1, after all. "OMG" did. Twice.

Even among songs that managed to snag that top spot — Eminem and Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie," Katy Perry's "California Gurls," B.o.B and Bruno Mars' "Nothin' on You" — "OMG" stood out from the pack, mostly because of its pedigree. It's not a stretch to say that any of those tracks could've (and probably would've) been #1 in any other year; "OMG" could only have done it in 2010, because it was crafted to do nothing else. No other song this year was as of the moment, as singular and shiny and downright undeniable. There's a reason it was named on more ballots than any other song on our countdown and justly takes the title of MTV News' #1 Song of 2010.

And while all that is important, it's largely beside the point. "OMG" is the kind of song that truly defies deep inspection, because it's not exactly headphone music. Rather, it was made for the clubs, designed to envelop you on the dance floor and not let go until the final "oh-ohh-oh-ooh-oh." And in that regard, it succeeds in spades. It is a masterful melding of R&B, and Euro dance, all icy synths and handclaps, starbursts and stutters and sing-along chants. It ebbs and flows, stops and starts, pumps and preens. Simply put, you cannot listen to it without moving in some way. (MTV's Dee Caligiuri, who voted on our countdown, probably put it best one night when she declared: "There are so many dances you can do to it!") And if that's not the definition of a success, well, then I don't know what is.

A large portion of the credit for "OMG" has to go to will.i.am, who not only produced the track (I know!), but was smart enough to see this whole dance thing coming when he teamed up with producer David Guetta last year. Those songs — "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling" — were, of course, massive, but neither of them are as good as this. Given full control, Will goes off the deep end, cramming the song with every dance trick in the book — and probably some new ones he just invented on the spot. And Usher, whose career, truth be told, was sort of in need of a shot in the arm, is the beneficiary. He floats and gloats above the mix, suave and cocksure, knowing that he is exactly the right man at the right time. That time, of course, had to be 2010.

Because in a year when so many big-name acts embraced the DJ, he flat-out did it better than any of them. "OMG" represents the peak of the dance-pop era in which we live, a song as undeniable as it is of the moment. We can only speculate as to what next year will bring, but there's really no denying that, as 2010 comes to a close, Usher stands above all else, reinvigorated and ready for more. It's enough to make you say "Oh My God," really.

How does Usher's "OMG" rank among the year's best songs? Let us know in the comments!

Dr. Dre's 'Kush' Video And Other Comeback Clips

Like memorable videos from Jay-Z, Eminem and T.I., the legendary producer's latest work heralds his return to the game.

Dr. Dre's video for "Kush," the lead single off Detox, hit the Net on Friday (December 10), and the clip seems to confirm the much-delayed album will be released in the near future. It's only been a little more than a decade since the doctor dropped his last project, after all. But seeing the new video, featuring Snoop Dogg and Akon, brought to mind some other recent comeback stories in hip-hop. Here, we give you a rundown of the videos that accompanied them.

Eminem, "We Made You"
Released in 2009, "We Made You" was Marshall Mathers' first solo look since his '05 Encore album. In a sense, he picked up right where he left off, bashing celebrities and mocking the public's love affair with pop culture. But the plan backfired, and Em left the impression that the only one obsessed with pop culture — dated pop culture, at that — was Em. As a result, his Relapse was critically panned as a comeback album; it wasn't until this year's Recovery that Eminem truly re-established his place in music.

Jay-Z, "Show Me What You Got"
Hov announced his retirement from rap as a solo artist in 2003 with The Black Album. But only three years later, he returned with a new album, Kingdom Come and a video for its lead single, "Show Me What You Got." The Just Blaze-produced track compelled director F. Gary Gray, known for being selective about his projects, to helm the video. The video was filmed in Monaco, and Jay enlistedJay enlisted race car drivers Danica Patrick and Dale Earnhardt Jr. for the well-received clip.

Kanye West, "Power"
Inspired by director Marco Brambilla's "Civilization" installation at New York's Standard Hotel, the video for 'Ye's "Power" was dubbed "Portrait of Power." Less a music video than a piece of moving art, the visual showed Kanye surrounded by angels and assorted religious imagery. Coming off "Taylor-gate," its epic quality matched the brooding scope of the song and it proved to be the right approach as critics and fans alike lapped it up.

T.I., "I'm Back"
T.I. had served out a yearlong prison stint, when he returned in April with "I'm Back." The video found the Atlanta rapper getting reacquainted with his life on the outside, namely foreign cars, expensive jewelry and the 'hood. Rapping with an American flag as the backdrop, Tip seemed to be saying, "I'm still a shining example of the American Dream." Or, perhaps it was an allusion to career plans gone awry, an American Dream deferred. The MC's comeback has hit some speed bumps, as his No Mercy album was released this week while the rapper serves out a new 11-month prison sentence.

Dr. Dre, "Still D.R.E."
"Kush" isn't the first video Dre made fans wait umpteen years for. The super-producer did the same with "Still D.R.E.," which was the lead song from 1999's The Chronic 2001. It had been seven years since he'd dropped The Chronic. Clearly, Dre likes to take his time. The "Still D.R.E." clip, featuring Snoop Dogg, found the doctor celebrating low-riders, scantily clad women and, of course, gangsta music.

What's your favorite comeback video? Tell us in the comments!

Miley Cyrus Isn't Breaking The Law In Bong Video, Experts Say

Posted: 10 Dec 2010 01:45 AM PST

Video allegedly shows her smoking salvia, which is legal in California.
By James Montgomery

By now, you've probably seen the video of Miley Cyrus allegedly smoking salvia from a bong, and you're probably wondering whether she might face legal repercussions as a result of the clip. According to organizations on either side of the ongoing war over drug legalization, the answer is no.

"[The video] might be embarrassing to her, but it does not put her in any legal risk," Keith Stroup, legal counsel at the marijuana advocacy group NORML, told MTV News on Friday (December 10). "At the moment, [salvia] is not illegal in California, so even if she walked out on the street and smoked it in front of police, she couldn't be arrested. And the video of her smoking isn't enough to get her in trouble, because there's no proof she wasn't smoking tobacco."

"Salvia is a drug of concern," said Michael Sanders, a spokesperson for the Drug Enforcement Agency. "We are taking steps to look further into it, but for right now, it is not a schedule-one narcotic."

Under the Controlled Substance Act, U.S. drug policy assigns narcotics into five different "schedules" — marijuana is a schedule-one drug, as it has "a high potential for abuse ... [and] no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States," cocaine is a schedule two, etc. — which are determined by two federal agencies: the DEA and the Food and Drug Administration. The DEA does not currently list salvia, an herb that, when smoked, provides a powerful psychoactive punch, though several states have made it illegal. In California, where the Cyrus video was allegedly shot, it is illegal to provide salvia to minors; however, it is legal for them to possess it.

Since the Cyrus video was not only allegedly shot in California but was also done so five days after her 18th birthday (according to TMZ), the pop star wasn't breaking any laws. Though, as Stroup put it, all of that may change soon.

"Until recently, [salvia] was perfectly legal, frankly because no one paid attention to it. It's only after a little attention was paid to it in the media that states begin passing legislation about it," he said. "Drug policy in this country is, by a large part, based on a social response or a political response, but the bottom line is, they don't want people getting high."

'Thor' Trailer Premieres Online

Marvel's next great superhero lays a smackdown in brand-new clip with a fearsome Chris Hemsworth in title role.
By Josh Wigler

A scene from "Thor"

A bearded man in a blue shirt sits silently in a holding room as a man identified as Agent Paul Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D. interrogates him.

"It's not easy to do what you did," says Coulson, who has apprehended the man only after he disarms several of the official's fellow agents. "You made my men look like a bunch of minimum-wage mall cops. That's hurtful. Would you like to tell me where you received your training? Afghanistan? Chechnya? Who are you?"

With just a single look, the man answers Coulson's question, and that of comic book movie enthusiasts everywhere. The man is Thor, and come May 2011, you'll know his name well.

On Friday (December 10), Marvel Studios and Yahoo! Movies released the first official trailer for "Thor," director Kenneth Branagh's forthcoming adaptation of the classic comic book character's story. Chris Hemsworth stars in the title role alongside an impressive cast that includes Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins and Kat Dennings.

In "Thor," our hero hails from Asgard, a faraway, mystical land filled with deadly warriors, powerful sorcerers and other forms of danger. Thor himself is a brave and courageous warrior, but an arrogant one as well. After his reckless behavior reignites an ancient Asgardian feud, Thor is cast out of his homeland by its ruler, his father Odin (Hopkins), and forced to live on Earth to learn a lesson in humility.

But when he lands in mortal territory, Thor gets more than he bargained for in the form of Jane Foster (Portman), a beautiful young scientist with an instant connection to the valiant warrior. Soon, a terrible Asgardian force threatens to destroy Earth, and it's up to Thor to save the day and prevent both of these worlds from utter annihilation.

The official trailer — showcasing much of the same footage that Comic-Con attendees saw over the summer — highlights the film's several action sequences, including a battle between Thor and the Destroyer, an enchanted suit-of-armor hell-bent on destroying the Thunder God. But it's the character work that has our interest piqued: Not only do Portman and the rest of the supporting cast look superb, but Hemsworth positively exudes the godly charm one needs to play Thor.

After seeing this trailer, Robert Downey Jr. might want to watch his back, because Iron Man officially has some competition in the coolest superhero contest!

"Thor" arrives in theaters on May 20, 2011.

Raheem DeVaughn Explains Sexy 'She's Single' Video

Posted: 10 Dec 2010 06:04 AM PST

'I just really wanted to make a video that captures line by line what it is I'm talking about on the record,' soul singer tells MTV News.

While many of the 2011 Grammy nominees were celebrating their nods, soul singer Raheem DeVaughn was stirring up Web controversy.

The Washington, D.C., crooner dropped the visual for his Jackin' 4 Beats mixtape cut "She's Single" a day before the Recording Academy recognized his third album, "The Love & War MasterPeace," with a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album. DeVaughn also said he dropped the joint a day before World AIDS Day and featured a plug for Magnum condoms to bring attention to the issue of safe sex. However, for many, the accolade and the activism were eclipsed by the sexed-up clip, which features DeVaughn engaging in some acrobatic bedroom moves with a lady friend.

When MTV News caught up with the singer via phone recently, he explained that the video, which became a trending topic on Twitter, wasn't crafted to be overly racy, but rather reflects DeVaughn's creative space at the moment.

"I've shown my soul in so many other different lights. I'm in a real sexy mode right now, grown-man sexy," he said. "That's really just what I wanted to capture. I wanted to really make a video that captures line by line what it is I'm talking about on the record."

In order to embody the baby-making vibe of the song, the video must feature imagery that rivals lyrics like, "I'll let you ride it like Ferrari," and "I hit it, hit it, hit it like a hockey stick." And the "Customer" singer did not hold back with the accompanying visual, packing the clip with crimson-lit scenes of DeVaughn consorting in the nude with a woman who's stepping out on her man. However, DeVaughn doesn't consider the video a raunch-fest, but rather an honest portrait of what goes down between consenting adults who want to indulge privately in a steamy romp.

"I wouldn't necessarily call it raunchy," he said." I think it's more tasteful. If that's the word cats choose to run with it, I've seen a lot more raunchy stuff than that. It ain't like I'm poppin' off with the ménage or got four or five different girls in the room. I'm really just showing the interaction between black man [and] black woman. It's imagery, and it's the most intimate moments. It is what it is. At the end of the day, it's art."

DeVaughn also maintained that the video is consistent with much of his previous work — which ranges from the sultry to the socially conscious — in terms of the level of detail and work he puts in to each clip.

"When I make my socially conscious songs, I go hard with the lyrical content, I go hard with the imagery. It's no different than the risks I've taken in my lyrics ... as far as the artistry. That's where I'm at right now," he said.

He also added that although it's not his first time speaking candidly about gettin' down in his music, he thought it was time to elaborate on the sexy nature of his words.

"My lyrics have always been very sensual. I think people have always wondered, 'What's it's like? What's the image like?' " he said.

While fans may have been curious about Raheem's moves between the sheets, the singer said he didn't expect such a strong response to the video.

"I wouldn't have guessed in a million years, though, that it would get the response that it's been getting. It's really kind of hard to gauge in these ... times who's checking for you. At the end of the day, it's all good," he said. "It's been interesting the feedback I've been getting. I'm surprised. Ninety-five percent of the feedback has been good, though, to know that people out there appreciate art in its purest form and appreciate my music and appreciate the image I gave them."

Video featuring Snoop Dogg and Akon shows revelers frozen in time until the Doctor arrives.

Detox is on the way. And as the latest proof that Dr. Dre's long-awaited album will see the light of day soon, he premiered the video to the first single, "Kush," co-starring Snoop Dogg and Akon, on Friday (December 10).

The video, directed by Joseph Kahn (Eminem, Britney Spears), begins as Dre is seated in a sleek, black Lamborghini, attempting to flick a lighter. Once the Left Coast maestro ignites it, the beat drops, and he exits the car.

Dre approaches the club in a setting similar to "The Next Episode," one of his past hits. But the festivities around him are ice cold; the club patrons are statue-like, frozen in the parking lot and inside, in mid groove. The good doctor's last project was 1999's 2001, and perhaps things haven't been quite the same without him, the video suggests.

Snoop Dogg kicks things off on the second verse, and the lanky L.A. rhyme spitter is surrounded by a bevy of beautiful, frozen women. They're smiling, drinks are pouring, but they're also statues compared to the rapper.

As Dre makes his way into the club and to the bar, however, the party livens up.

Dre pulls out his lighter, engraved with the song's title, and holds it to the sprinklers overhead, setting them off. As water rains down on the partygoers, they come back to life, gyrating to the thumping track's production. Later, Dre and Snoop leave the club, and Dre drives off into the night on an empty highway, surrounded by the streaking lights of cars that are no longer there.

Recently, Eminem told his satellite radio station, Shade 45, that he and Dre have been in the studio wrapping up Detox. "Kush" and "I Need A Doctor," featuring Eminem, leaked back to back in November.

Robert Pattinson Drives 'Intense' Bidding On Charity Auction Website

This week, a fan paid $80,000 in a charity auction through CharityBuzz to meet Robert Pattinson and get to visit the set of "Breaking Dawn." And while it comes as no surprise that fans were clamoring for the chance to get up close and personal with the actor, Glenda Luft, director of communications for the site, told MTV News the bidding war was more intense than they could have ever imagined.

"Bidding was definitely intense!" she told MTV News. "The package was hovering at $47,000 for a few days and then at $67,000, but we were so thrilled to see it jump to $80,000 in the very last moments of the auction."

So how did it all come together? "Summit Entertainment put the auction package together to raise funds for the GO Campaign, which empowers vulnerable children and orphans around the world," she explained. "Summit included the incredibly rare opportunity to visit the set of 'Twilight: Breaking Dawn' in Vancouver for four people total, with hotel accommodations at a deluxe executive suite at the elite Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver and VIP limousine service to and from the 'Breaking Dawn' set. As if that wasn't enough, Summit also promised the winner an opportunity to meet Robert Pattinson on set!"

There was one major stipulation: "The fans will need to be on their best behavior, as there is a strict conduct code to act in a 'responsible and appropriate manner at all times during the experience.' "

The fan might be excited, but so is the charity. "The GO Campaign was thrilled when we learned we'd have this 'Twilight' auction item because of all the good work it will help us accomplish," Scott Fifer, executive director of the GO Campaign, said in a statement. "The funds raised will help us support tens of thousands of children around the world."

While they couldn't share anything about the winner, Luft did share that Pattinson's popularity made him one of the biggest auctions of the year — but he was beat by a Beatle. "This is one of our top celebrity auctions of the season, but not the highest in CharityBuzz's history," she said. "Yesterday, we auctioned the chance to meet Paul McCartney for $130,000!"

Luft added that other big auctions on the site right now include chances to meet Prince William, U2's The Edge and Taylor Swift.

MTV News just named Usher's "OMG" the #1 song of 2010, and clearly we're not alone in our admiration. But what is it like to watch it performed night after night? Miguel, who is currently opening for Usher's OMG Tour gave us a little insight.

"There's so much anticipation for this song when he comes out, and he really gives the fans what they want," Miguel laughs. "He kills it every night."

Before his latest string of hits, Usher was out of the spotlight for a period of time in 2009, when he was dealing with personal issues including a divorce. Miguel finds his 2010 comeback inspiring.

"There was a period of time, when a lot of people didn't believe in Usher and thought he was finished ... just kind of going to ride off into the sunset and disappear," the up-and-coming singer noted.

With the release of Raymond vs. Raymond and its extended, companion EP, Versus, in 2010, Usher proved the skeptics wrong with chart-toppers including "OMG" and "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love."

"He's such a tremendous example of perseverance and determination," Miguel beamed. "I was there throughout this album, so I've seen the adversity that he's had to overcome perception-wise."

Miley Cyrus' Dad Billy Ray 'So Sad' About Bong Video

'There is much beyond my control right now,' singer/actress' father tweets Friday.

Earlier Friday (December 10), footage of Miley Cyrus smoking from a bong appeared online. In the clip, Cyrus giggles and talks to an unidentified woman who is filming the teen star. The bong was reportedly filled with salvia, a psychoactive herb that is legal in California.

On Friday afternoon, Cyrus' father, Billy Ray, took to Twitter to express his disappointment over the video. "Sorry guys. I had no idea," he wrote. "Just saw this stuff for the first time myself. I'm so sad. There is much beyond my control right now."

Just hours before he reacted to his daughter's clip, he tweeted about Jesus being on Twitter, seemingly unaware of the scandal that was brewing online. "Oh wow! I'm so excited !!!" he wrote. "I tweeted follow Jesus and He showed up!!! I didn't know He was on twitter!!! I'm following Him ......"

The video was reportedly filmed in Cyrus' L.A.-area home on November 28, just days after she turned 18. "Having a little bit of a bad trip," she laughs in the video, moments after taking a hit from the bong. Cyrus then looks off in the distance and asks, "Is that Liam [Hemsworth]'s lookalike, or what the hell is that? Is that my boyfriend?"

She then spends the next 90 seconds laughing uncontrollably while someone behind the camera asks her to "tell us your thoughts, girl, tell us what's on your mind!" The footage reportedly got out when "someone stole or copied the video from that friend's camera," a source told TMZ. A rep for the star has yet to comment on the matter.

Legal experts weighed in, noting that Cyrus is not breaking the law in the video since she was of age and allegedly smoked the substance in a state where salvia is legal. "[The video] might be embarrassing to her, but it does not put her in any legal risk," Keith Stroup, legal counsel at the marijuana advocacy group NORML, told MTV News on Friday.

"We are taking steps to look further into it."

She was overlooked by the Grammys, but Ke$ha dominated radio and the charts in 2010 with her Auto-Tuned electro-pop and a distinctive "garbage chic" style that had everybody talking.

In the latest issue of Billboard, the party-girl pop star opens up about her whirlwind rise to the top, saying she has no regrets about her breakthrough year.

"Are you kidding me? I pretty much feel like I've been reborn into this completely different existence," the singer told the magazine when asked how life had changed for her. "My entire life has become making music and playing shows, and I love it. I've accepted the fact that my fans are now my family, and I won't be having boyfriends. I'll just be having a really amazing relationship with the radio."

The pop star said that although she "wasn't clueless" about what fame might bring, it far exceeded her expectations. "It's just not at all what I expected it to be like," she said. "It's really intense, more intense than I ever thought it would be."

Recalling paparazzi chasing her as she made her arrival at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, Ke$ha said, "I was having an anxiety attack, like, 'I just wrote some pop songs, man!' "

Ke$ha, who graces the mag's cover wearing a crown as she pops a bottle of champagne, also talked about her big debut single, saying, "Sometimes I need to remind myself that 'Tik Tok' only went to #1 in January, because it kind of feels like it was 17 years ago."

The mag went on to ask if "Tik Tok" was the best way to introduced herself to the public. "I don't know. We didn't really know which song to come out with first," Ke$ha said. "It was kind of a debate, because I didn't initially come out as a rapper; I've always been a singer. So having my first single classified as kind of a rap song felt bizarre to me. But now it's become something of a trademark, and it's becoming more legitimate. I've talked to some of my favorite rap artists over the past year — artists who are idols — and they've given me mad props."

Lauryn Hill Set To Perform String Of East Coast Concerts

Lauryn Hill is inching closer to a comeback. At this summer's Rock the Bells, the reclusive raptress emerged for four tour stops, giving front-to-back performances of her classic debut, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, almost a dozen years to the day after its release. Now, L-Boogie is set to meet her hungry public again with a grip of shows along the East Coast.

According to Brooklyn Vegan, Hill will hit Boston, New York and Miami for a string of shows beginning December 20. She'll make stops at Brooklyn's Music Hall of Williamsburg at the end of the month, and the Bowery Ballroom in New York City on New Year's Day. The "Ex-Factor" singer will then resume the jaunt in the spring with a pair of performances in the Magic City as part of Miami's Jazz in the Gardens Festival. Tickets for the first trio of shows went on sale on Friday (December 10); no additional dates have been announced.

At this summer's Rock the Bells, Hill chuckled when we asked her about a due date for fresh material, but told MTV News, "We're getting closer. That's all I can say."

The ex-Fugees frontwoman, who became something of a voice for a generation of pre-millennium girls drawn to her cerebral brand of rap&B, shunned the limelight not long after the jaw-dropping success of her debut. But in August, she remarked that the industry had changed in recent years, adding that she was feeling sparked by how eclectic music in the age of MP3s was sounding.

"You got a lot of young talent out there," Hill observed. "Because we don't necessarily have the same sort of industry complex that used to exist, people don't always give, I want to say, proper respect to. But they're doing it in a really kind of unusual, unique and hard-core way."

Lauryn Hill tour dates, according to Brooklyn Vegan:

» 12/20 - Boston, MA @ Wilbur Theatre
» 12/28 - Brooklyn, NY @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
» 1/1 - New York, NY @ Bowery Ballroom
» 3/19 - Miami, FL @ Jazz in the Gardens Festival
» 3/20 - Miami, FL @ Jazz in the Gardens Festival

'Jersey Shore' Star Ronnie Recalls Losing His Virginity At 17

On Saturday's 'When I Was 17,' everybody's favorite juicehead remembers his first time.

We've seen "Jersey Shore" juicehead Ronnie get into a lot scrapes on the boardwalk, but as it turns out, he has always had a penchant for, ahem, outdoor activities. On an all-"Jersey Shore" episode of "When I Was 17," which also features stories from Ron Ron's girl Sammi and Staten Island native Vinny, Ronnie remembers the first time he had sex.

"When I was 17 I lost my virginity," Ronnie admits.

Ronnie's friend T.J. adds that the event happened in someone else's ride, and that that person wasn't aware of it — until now.

"Ronnie lost his virginity in the backseat of my grandmother's Camry," T.J. reveals. "The worst part about that is that she still drives it, so I'm probably gonna catch crap for this."

"When you're young, the place to have sex is in the car," Ronnie rationalizes.

The Bronx native explains the spur-of-the-moment nature of how everything went down.

"It just happened randomly," he says. "[I was] hanging out on the corner with my friend and some girl walks up to him and she's like, 'Your friend's hot. I wanna hook up.' We went to go find a nice quiet spot ... literally down the block."

Although for Ronnie, where the hookup happened didn't really matter that much. "I'm about to get laid for the first time. I'm like, I'll do it on the hood of the car right now, I don't care," he says.

Even though it was his debut run knockin' boots, Ron had an audience checking out the moment.

"My friends were watching from the car behind me. They were like watching through the window and stuff like that," he recalls.

"We were looking, he had the windows down," T.J. admits. "It was a pretty wild scene."

Ronnie also discusses his technique for making love in such a tight space.

"I just pretty much did the head tuck. You tuck your head in between her head and her shoulders and you just like 1, 2, 3, 4. Like three pumps ... and you're done," he says. "It's awesome."

"When I Was 17" — this week featuring Ronnie, Vinny and Sammi — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. ET/PT on MTV.

Angelina Jolie's Bosnian War Film Producer Brushes Off Controversy

Producing partner Graham King also tells MTV News that when he visited the set, first-time director Jolie had 'total command of that crew.'

Last week, Angelina Jolie hit back against criticism of her still-untitled Bosnian War drama, which has been the focus of complaints by a women's group, by simply saying, "There's one person who has a gripe."

Jolie's producing partner on the film, Graham King, echoed that sentiment when he told MTV News recently that the criticism has received too much attention. "Yeah, a little bit," he said, laughing.

At issue has been a rumored plot line said to involve a rape victim falling in love with her captor. A rep for Jolie has already said there is no such story line, though the full plot remains shrouded in mystery.

"There are many twists in the plot that address the sensitive nature of the relationship between the main characters, and that will be revealed once the film is released," Jolie said.

Nonetheless, the controversy has persisted, with Bakira Hasecic, the president of the Association of Women Victims of War, filing a complaint about the movie with the United Nations refugee agency.

When we sat down with King in Paris, where he was promoting "The Tourist" (another project of his in which Jolie stars), the producer was not only quick to dismiss the criticism but also to speak highly of Jolie's work on her directorial debut.

"I went to that set two weeks ago, and she had total command of that crew," he said. "It was just a real joy to see her behind that monitor, and I think it's going to be a really good piece of material."

Whether Brad Pitt will play a part remains to be seen. Recent reports have suggested Jolie's husband will pop up in a cameo. All Jolie would tell us in Paris was "Possibly," and King was similarly cagey: "We'll see," he said.

Kings Of Leon's 'Pyro' Video: All Drunks Go To Heaven

Band's new video is a solemn affair with a grandiose ending.
By James Montgomery

If you're looking for cheery Christmastime viewing, perhaps it's best to avoid the Kings of Leon's brand-new "Pyro" video, four-plus minutes of drunks and depression that, ultimately, gets (sorta) uplifting — but, wow, what a psychic slog it is to get to that point.

The clip takes place entirely in a seedy bar — kind of like the Kings said it would last month — one filled entirely with downtrodden dregs: stumbling drunkards, lecherous lotharios, broken-down bikers, each of them lost in their own boozy worlds, alone together in the room. Their stupors are momentarily broken by the arrival of a young man, who comes in out of the cold to get a drink and then heroically interjects himself in a fight between a burly man and his terrified girlfriend.

He is rewarded for his bravery by getting beaten up — first by the man in question, and then by his surly friends, who take turns pounding on him before tossing him through a mirror while a dead-eyed stripper slowly gyrates away (of course there's a dead-eyed stripper in this place). The sundry of drunks cheer this savagery on and even the bartender gets in on the act, tossing one of the men a baseball bat, presumably to finish off the job. Meanwhile, the band — played by the Kings themselves — plays on, watching the brutality unfold around them.

But then, something sorta miraculous happens. Our hero — flat on his back — slowly begins to rise. His wounds magically heal. He opens his eyes and ascends to the heavens. His assailants can't believe it, and they recoil in shock. Soon, everyone else in the bar begins levitating too — first the purer souls (a caretaker, a terrified young woman, the dead-eyed stripper) and then the rest of the room. The clip ends with everyone slowly floating off into the great beyond, perhaps freed from their personal prisons by this single act of heroism. Or maybe they're all just really wasted.

Either way, that mass ascension manages to put a slightly affirming — not to mention incredibly artistic — capper on the video. "Pyro" is a solemn, sometimes grotesque thing, but there's a strange beauty to it too. Like a diamond broche on a barroom floor, it sparkles despite all the grime it's coated in. It may not be the easiest thing to watch, but it's ultimately rewarding — chill-inducingly so. Drink up.

Justin Bieber, Katy Perry Top Google's 'Zeitgeist' List Of 2010

Eminem, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj also rank high on Google's lists of the year's most popular searches.

It may not come as a surprise to you, but Justin Bieber is very popular. The latest evidence of this is the just-released Google "Zeitgeist" chart, which aggregated the billions of queries the search engine received in 2010 and compiled them into one list of the most-searched topics of the year. And Bieber came out on top.

JB edged out Katy Perry, Selena Gomez and the omnipresent Kim Kardashian to claim the #1 spot on Google's "Fastest Rising People" list, which took the most popular people searches of the year and compared them to data from 2009. Eminem came in at #5, followed by Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Lautner, Megan Fox and Robert Pattinson.

Bieber was also #1 on the "Fastest Rising in Entertainment" list (ahead of Shakira, Eminem and, uh, Netflix), and landed at #3 on the general "Fastest Rising" list — bested only by Chatroulette and Apple's iPad — making him the highest actual human being on the list.

And that's using data from the entire world; if you narrow the list to include only searches done in the U.S., Bieber is #1 once again — by an even larger margin. The teen star's total searches more than doubled those of Ke$ha, who comes in at #2, followed by Wiz Khalifa, Nicki Minaj and "Mad Men" star Christina Hendricks. Heidi Montag, Katy Perry, Kid Cudi, Kim Kardashian and Lindsay Lohan round out the rest of the Top 10.

Miley Cyrus Caught Smoking From Bong On Video

Video was reportedly shot shortly after the singer's 18th birthday.
By James Montgomery

Last month, Miley Cyrus told MTV News about her plans for her 18th birthday, which she said would probably include "a fun party and then maybe ... a vacation with my family." On Friday (December 10), we finally saw footage of that party — or, at least a party — though Miley probably wishes we hadn't.

TMZ.com has posted a video clip of Cyrus smoking a bong — reportedly filled with salvia, a psychoactive (though, in her home state of California, technically legal) herb — and then collapsing in a fit of giggles while her friends egg her on ... and, somewhat inexplicably, Bush's "Come Down" blasts in the background.

"Having a little bit of a bad trip," Cyrus laughs in the video, moments after taking a hit. She then randomly switches topics, shouting (at something or someone off camera), "Is that Liam [Hemsworth]'s lookalike, or what the hell is that? Is that my boyfriend?"

She then spends roughly the next 90 seconds laughing uncontrollably while someone behind the camera asks her to "tell us your thoughts, girl, tell us what's on your mind!" and an unidentified man in the background totally houses a box of Frosted Flakes.

According to TMZ, the video was shot in Cyrus' Los Angeles-area home on November 28 — five days after her 18th birthday — and it was one of her friends who did the filming. The website quotes an anonymous source as saying that "someone stole or copied the video from that friend's camera."

At press time, a spokesperson for Cyrus had not responded to MTV News' request for comment on the video.

Kevin Jonas Says He's Had No Contact With Demi Lovato

When Kevin Jonas and bodyguard Big Rob called into "The Seven" on Thursday to talk about the X the Text campaign they're involved in with Allstate, the elder statesman of the Jonas Brothers commented on Demi Lovato, who left her tour with the JoBros last month to seek treatment for personal issues.

The guys have remained mum on the subject since Lovato left the tour, not addressing the matter until now, when they sent the singer/actress their well-wishes.

"I really haven't had any contact [with her]," Kevin said on "The Seven." "Of course, we wish her well in her recovery."

On the subject of texting, host Julie Alexandria asked Kevin if the rumor was true that middle Jonas brother, Joe, texted Taylor Swift back in 2008 to end the pair's relationship.

"No, that is not true," he answered about the two-year-old incident. "People have all their speculations, and she seems to talk about it in all her songs, so it's fine."

All drama aside, Kevin dished a bit about what the brothers are working on and looked ahead to some of the projects he and his brothers are gearing up to get cracking on for the new year.

"There's a lot of really cool things happening, a lot of new TV, a lot of new music and a lot of buzz about Joe's project, different things like that, so we're really excited," he said. "We'll probably lock ourselves in the studio for a couple of months and make an album that we love and we're proud of."

'The Tourist': The Reviews Are In!

Posted: 09 Dec 2010 10:58 PM PST

Not all critics were won over by Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp's star power.
By Eric Ditzian

Critics may not be fawning over "The Tourist," but Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie remain big box-office draws, perhaps even more so internationally than here in the States. So while oodles of critics continue to take shots at the new flick, it's likely to attract a sizeable audience.

But will "The Tourist" top the $20 million mark? Will it fall short? Is the movie the right choice for you this weekend, as it faces other new entrants like "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" or the platform release "The Fighter"? Check out what the critics are saying and decide for yourself.

The Story
"One morning in Paris (France, we're helpfully informed), the exquisite Elise Ward (Jolie) strolls down to her favorite cafe and receives a letter from her lover, Alexander Pearce, whom we eventually learn is an elusive, high-class thief wanted for stealing $744 million. Her actions are closely monitored by a team of Scotland Yard detectives led by Inspector Acheson (Paul Bettany, high-strung), whose determination to collar Pearce borders on obsession. Following Pearce's exact instructions, Elise hops a Venice-bound train, where she subtly puts the moves on Frank Tupelo (Depp), a random, slightly rumpled American traveler whose provenance ('a math teacher from Wisconsin') is the script's idea of a joke worth repeating. Employing an arsenal of suggestive glances and coy one-liners, Elise contrives to throw the cops off the scent by making them think Frank is Pearce." — Justin Chang, Variety

The Elegant Details
" 'The Tourist' is one of those movies that will leave some viewers scratching their heads, wondering why there isn't more action, more snazzy editing, more obvious crackle between its stars, Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. But I suspect the people who get 'The Tourist' will simply adore it: It's the kind of espionage caper that doesn't get made anymore, a visually sensuous picture made with tender attention to detail and an elegant, understated sense of humor. In style and construction, its spiritual godfather is Stanley Donen's 'Charade'; thematically, its fairy godmother is Preston Sturges' 'The Lady Eve.' If it were a drink, it would be a Bellini, fizzy and sweet and dry all at the same time." — Stephanie Zacharek, Movieline

The Romantic Drama
" 'The Tourist' nearly works as a slow-paced, romantic drama. Unfortunately this isn't a slow-paced, romantic drama; it's supposed to be some kind of action-thriller. But the script is as light on action as it is on thrills and director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's movie crawls by at a snail's pace, relying on star chemistry and beautiful backdrops to keep you interested in all the moments when nothing of any real consequence seems to be happening. While it's true that there's pleasure to be had in watching Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie motoring endlessly through the watery, stunning streets of Venice, there's barely enough here to justify making it a movie." — Josh Tyler, Cinema Blend

The Dissenters
"Star power can cover up a multitude of shortcomings in a film. Turns out stupidity isn't one of them. Nor is a lack of chemistry when those stars are tossed into the same orbit. Throw in the feeling that they aren't really trying, but instead showed up for the mondo payday and the first-rate locations and you have ... well, you have 'The Tourist,' with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, a movie that is difficult to characterize as a disappointment because mediocrity seems to be what they were shooting for." — Bill Goodyknoontz, The Arizona Republic

The Final Word
"It's probably best to head into 'The Tourist' with the mindset that you're going on an actual vacation yourself. If you're in the mood for mindless, escapist fun — dazzling scenery, elegant evenings, decadent hotel suites and expensive clothes — you'll be fine. There are all the obligatory chases and shootouts you'd expect in a romantic action caper, but you never get the sense that anyone's in real danger. There are twists, but they won't make you think too terribly hard, and in the end you will have devoted fewer than two hours of your life to a decent diversion." — Christy Lemire, The Associated Press
