Rick Ross' 'B.M.F.' Is MTV News' #4 Song Of 2010

The Teflon Don's chilling street anthem places high on our year-end list of Top 25 Songs.

Starting last week, MTV News began counting down the Top 25 Songs of 2010, a list that's already included the likes of Chris Brown and Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Eminem. Now, we're unveiling our #4 pick: Rick Ross's thrilling, chilling "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)."

They say in South Florida, it's not so much the heat as it is the humidity. And there were few songs released in 2010 as humid as Rick Ross' "B.M.F.," a track that's practically dripping with swagger and snarl, big-screen boasts and back-alley bravado. From its oft-repeated opening verse — "I think I'm Big Meech/ Larry Hoover" — to its doom-y, boom-y bass and stabbing synth strains, it's an unrelenting, unfathomably heavy thing; a blunt-force, concrete-slab of a song that no one besides the Teflon Don could wield.

"B.M.F." wasn't a huge mainstream hit, mostly because it wasn't designed to be. But from the moment it first premiered in May — on Ross' Albert Anastasia EP — "B.M.F." put both the streets and the clubs in a stranglehold, and it didn't let up for the rest of the year. And you get the feeling that's exactly what Ricky was hoping for. After all, the song is a masterwork of clenched-fist tension, starting with Lex Luger's taut, hefty production work and continuing right on through the dense wordplay, equal parts braggadocio ("Rozay, that's my nickname/ Cocaine runnin' through my big vein") and street-wise slang ("I got that Archie Bunker/ And it's so white, I just might charge you double"). No matter how you slice it — or break it up and sell it — this is the very definition of a street single.

Although Ross' detractors could (and did) point to the song as a prime example of his rather, uh, inventive imagination, "B.M.F." packs such a wallop that any debate about its authenticity seems rather pointless. Ross has always been a gifted storyteller, as evidenced by the wide-screen world he's created for himself, a downright "Scarface"-ian sphere of swagger and sophistication. And this song is perhaps his most accomplished work to date. It's a dispatch from the trenches of that glitzy world, a document of the hustle and the sweat that makes the whole thing possible. Ross' character (as it were) has always been double-sided: equal parts glamour and grime. Accordingly, "B.M.F. is the black yin to "Super High" 's white-suited yang. It's no wonder he sounds totally winded midway through — spinning a yarn this weighty is hard work.

In the end, it doesn't matter whether Ross actually moves keys of coke through Biscayne Bay, not when he keeps telling tales as unflinchingly hard and compellingly deep as "B.M.F." With his minks and Maybachs, mansions and machine guns, Ross' whole shtick may be downright fictional, but his talent, his power, his heft is unquestionably real. And this song is the thrilling, chilling proof. Hallelujah.

Christian Bale To Eminem On Extreme Weight Loss: 'Don't Do It!'

Em took cues from Bale's 'Machinist' transformation for his own '3 A.M.' video.

Christian Bale has done it again. The dude has gone ahead and lost a ton of weight for a role, this time to play real-life boxing champ-turned-crackhead-turned-boxing trainer Dickie Eklund in "The Fighter." It's a startling transformation, and the performance has rightly made Bale the front-runner to win a Best Supporting Actor Oscar.

But not everyone is focused on his "Fighter" weight loss. Bale dropped more than 60 pounds for 2004's "The Machinist," and it's that physical makeover that attracted the attention of Eminem. Last year, the hip-hop star said in an interview that he attempted to mirror's Bale's "Machinist" look for his "3 A.M." music video.

"I was thinking they could make my spine look real crazy like in that movie," Em told Complex. "I started getting real skinny so my veins would pop out and I was trying to get that look, but it just didn't work. My body won't really let me get that low."

That's probably a good thing, because according to Bale, losing so much weight is nothing short of insane.

"Holy crap, that guy needs help in that case!" the actor laughed when we told him about Eminem's quest. " 'Don't do it, don't do it,' I'd tell him."

Joking aside, Bale went on to speak about the surprising effects of losing so much weight. "I was the calmest mentally that I've ever been in my life," he explained. "You just go beyond any bodily needs. Your energy gets to such a low point that it all just becomes mental. You felt like some sort of guru that could go sit on top of a mountain.

"Mentally, it does wonders, but I would never sacrifice the joys, the ups and the downs, the roller coaster of life for that calmness," he added. "I'd rather be getting in there, getting involved and having it a bit more raw than that."

Ryan Gosling Talks Marriage Plans: 'I'm A Grown-Ass Man'

'Blue Valentine' star tells MTV News, 'It depends on the lady.'

Over the span of his career, Ryan Gosling has become a certifiable Hollywood heartthrob. And in the process, he's been linked to some of Hollywood's rising female stars, most notably an on-again, offscreen romance with his "Notebook" co-star Rachel McAdams.

In his latest flick, the depressing love story "Blue Valentine," Gosling and Michelle Williams take a look at what it means to keep a marriage together, and Gosling admits that he is approaching that stage in his life where marriage is a consideration.

"I'm a grown-ass man," he joked to MTV News about hitting the big 3-0 and what that means for his love life.

The film — which the Motion Picture Association of America previously rated NC-17 (thanks to graphic sex scenes) before deeming it R after a studio appeal — takes a realistic look at love and the evolution and devolution of a marriage. So, has playing this role scared Gosling away from the idea of marriage?

"To me, that stuff's funny," he said. "Just the idea that you're just gonna get married. It depends on the lady. You have to meet somebody that you feel like you can go down that road with. I don't want to just do it arbitrarily to say that I did."

In January, Gosling spoke to MTV News about "Blue Valentine" at the Sundance Film Festival. "It's a lot of pressure to watch it with all those people," he explained. "Also, it's a racy movie, so it's hard to watch those scenes with so many people."

Check out everything we've got on "Blue Valentine."

As Angelina Jolie told MTV News in July, Sleeping Beauty was her favorite character as a child, and she relished the idea of potentially taking part in a Tim Burton-directed tweaking of the fairy tale told from the perspective of the evil fairy godmother.

"I would love to," she said of possibly starring in the animated film "Maleficent." "It's all new and being discussed, but I loved her when I was a little girl. She was my favorite. Tim Burton, the chance to work with him would be extraordinary."

By that summer, she'd already wrapped production on "The Tourist" alongside Johnny Depp, who has collaborated with Burton on seven films and is gearing up for work on an eighth, "Dark Shadows."

So, would Jolie want to work with Depp again in a Burton film?

"Oh, of course," Jolie told MTV News in Paris while promoting "The Tourist." "I think every actor would be open to that. They are such a special team, and so you'd feel like you'd be entering a family that is such a wonderful, existing family."

For now, Burton is plowing ahead with preproduction on "Dark Shadows," an adaptation of the '60s-era supernatural soap opera, and is eyeing a spring 2011 start date. But as he told us recently, he's continuing to develop "Maleficent" and hopes Jolie will take part.

"I'd love to work with her," the director said last month. "We're working on a script for that. It's hard to know when that script will be ready. But I'm a huge fan. I'd love to work with her. That would be a good one."

Who do you think should star in Tim Burton's "Maleficent"? Share your ideas in the comments below!

You've heard of a ball drop on New Year's Eve, but MTV has something a little different lined up for its big New Year's Eve celebration this year. "Jersey Shore" star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi will climb into a ball that will be lowered into New York's Times Square to help ring in 2011 at the "MTV New Year's Bash."

She, of course, won't be alone, as castmate the Situation will also be on hand, along with rapper Flo Rida and host comedian Whitney Cummings and another "Jersey" castmember, Pauly D, who will serve as the night's DJ.

It wouldn't be a New Year's celebration without some serious fist-pumping, so the Sitch and other "Jersey Shore" castmembers will help lead the crowd in a fist-pumping frenzy in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record.

In addition to two songs from Flo Rida, the live, hour-long show will feature a celebration of the top entertainment stories of the year, with comedians and celebrities offering their own unique takes on the music, TV shows, Internet happenings, relationships and, yes, douche bags who made 2010 an unforgettable year.

While Cummings will be hosting the show live from the MTV studios in Times Square, the hosts of "The Seven," Kevin Manno and Julie Alexandria, will be reporting on the festivities down below, and the "Shore" kids will make sure to keep the crowd hyped.

They will also be on hand to unveil an exclusive sneak preview of the upcoming third season of the "Shore" during the NYE special, which kicks off at 11 p.m. ET.

Don't miss "MTV New Year's Bash," starting at 11 p.m. ET on New Year's Eve!

Cee Lo Green's 'F--- You' Is MTV News' #5 Song Of 2010

Posted: 08 Dec 2010 07:52 AM PST

Motown-inspired track became the most unlikely hit of the year and one of our Top 25 Songs.
By Kyle Anderson

First of all, let's get the title out of the way. The song that comes in at #5 on MTV News' Top 25 Songs of 2010 list is called "F--- You" (and though we can't type it out, you know what we're talking about). It isn't "Forget You" (which is what "Good Morning America" viewers and radio listeners hear) or "FU" or even "Fox News" (which was the lyric change Cee Lo Green made when he performed the song on "The Colbert Report"), and that's an important distinction.

The first single from Green's new album The Lady Killer is a phenomenal marriage of rage, angst and giddiness that cannot properly be expressed with the word "forget." It's too angry, too thrilling and too singular for a radio edit, which is why it landed so high on this list.

Of all the songs that appear on the upper echelon of this list, "F--- You" might have had the strangest road to the top. There was very little excitement surrounding the release of Green's new album (his third solo joint and his first since scoring huge crossover success with Gnarls Barkley, his collaboration with DJ Danger Mouse) when "F--- You" became an instantaneous viral hit back in August. Thanks to a YouTube clip that did little more than lay out the lyrics to the potty-mouthed revenge tune, the song got passed around at the speed of the Internet, racking up millions of views before it was even available on iTunes. Sensing that he had a hit on his hands, Green quickly cut a new, official video for the song (a brightly colored time-traveling tour through various episodes of traumatic female rejection) and pushed up the release date of the album.

But while it seems like "F--- You" should be a novelty song, it managed to transcend fleeting popularity, and that's because of the song's absolutely impeccable production. Co-written and produced by the Smeezingtons (the song-doctor collective that features breakout star Bruno Mars), "F--- You" uses a funky Motown groove and bright-as-sunshine horns to build a spectacularly catchy groove over which Cee Lo can let his voice (which is all helium and rubber bands) dance all over it like an extra-angry Al Green.

The language should have sunk "F--- You" (in addition to the chorus, there are a handful of S-bombs and mentions of the N-word, hardly the things you can say in a crossover pop hit), but the jubilation with which Cee Lo delivered his vindictive lyric sheet wrapped everybody up, turning Cee Lo into a morning-show-friendly pop star (again) and spinning "F--- You" into an unusual hit. The song peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and pushed The Lady Killer to the top 10 on the album chart as well. Cee Lo's greatest "F--- You"-related trick may be yet to come, as the song was just nominated for Grammys (Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Urban Alternative Performance and Best Short Form Music Video). And in perhaps the greatest testament of a song's greatness in 2010, "F--- You" got covered on an episode of the hit TV show "Glee" (by guest star Gwyneth Paltrow, no less).

While there was no shortage of blunt honesty on the radio in 2010 (Eminem and Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie" certainly put the cards on the table), Cee Lo Green's "F--- You" was a special kind of honesty, as it dressed it up in a jaw-droppingly fun package. Green had plenty of poison to share, but he did it with a smile — and that's what made "F--- You" so special. (And yeah, the cursing helped too.)

How does Cee Lo Green's "F--- You" rank among the year's best songs? Let us know in the comments!

Eminem, Lady Gaga, Antoine Dodson: MTV News' Top 25 Songs Explained

Posted: 07 Dec 2010 11:47 PM PST

The inner torment of crafting the perfect year-end list, in Bigger Than the Sound.
By James Montgomery

Eminem
Photo: Getty Images

Making lists is a necessary (and, some might say, unnecessarily complicated) component of writing about music, an annual rite of passage that's as much about personal choice as it is about pure politics.

Because no matter how much your favorite writer may protest, he or she always struggles with their year-end list, trying to strike the right balance between their favorite songs or albums and the actual favorites of the record-buying public. It is a dilemma of duty, really: Should the list shine a light on some unjustly overlooked acts (an explicit part of a music journalist's job) or attempt to make it an accurate representation of the year that was? Do we throw our support behind a small song that's really, truly great — ignoring the fact that no one heard it — or give in to the notion that a tune downloaded by more than 5 million people had more impact and, therefore, more inherent worth? And, really, how do you even begin to measure something like that in the first place?

Then, there are the rather insane (and equally immeasurable) questions every journo is confronted with ... stuff like, "What will my worldly contemporaries think of my picks?" (a.k.a. "I should probably put this Senegalese Mbalax compilation at number 10") or "'Teach Me How to Dougie' is a terrible song, but even my aunt in Virginia sent me the video, so does that make it one of the year's best?" Or the fact that, no matter how left-of-center (or right on) a list may be, it'll still be judged mercilessly by fellow music writers, and their reaction will, by logical extension, also be a judgment on you. Feelings are hurt. Reputations are crushed. Making a list is tougher than you could possibly imagine.

So, you can probably understand why, a few months ago, when MTV News began kicking around the idea of doing a Top Songs of 2010 countdown — and opening the process up to the entire newsroom — I was a bit hesitant. In years past, I'd just made my own list and let the chips fall where they may. For better or worse, things were just easier this way. I could blend the indie with the mainstream, balance the massive with the minimal. And, most important, I could defend each and every pick.

This year, the idea was much bigger, and the end result (in my opinion, at least) could've been much more disastrous: a list that ignored the work of acts like the National, LCD Soundsystem and Robyn in favor of, say, 25 Eminem songs. To me, that didn't seem particularly accurate — no offense to Em — or worthwhile. But still, we had meetings, we set parameters, and we pressed on.

Using a loose set of rules — songs didn't have to be singles and didn't even have to be released in 2010, they just had to have made an impact this year, be it commercially, culturally, or critically — we sent out ballots to MTV News' writers, editors and producers. And then we waited with bated breath.

What we received back were lists of delightfully dizzying size and scope: All in all, nearly 200 artists (everyone from Adam Lambert to Zola Jesus) and 300 songs made the cut. We began gleefully whittling them down, using nothing more than an inverse point system — the #1 song on each list received 25 points, the #25 song received 1 point — to determine our final list. It was tough (math has never really been our strong suit), but I'm incredibly happy that we did it.

Because the end result was, of course, MTV News' inaugural Top 25 Songs of 2010 list, which began rolling out last week and will conclude on Friday when we unveil our pick for the year's top song. Like pretty much everything else about the list — Katy Perry at #11, aforementioned Eminem at #9 and Robyn at #6 — our #1 will surprise a lot of people. And, ultimately, I think that's what any good list should do.

We've already heard the complaints from Lady Gaga's Little Monsters and Eminem's Stans and gotten kudos from folks who love the National and Robyn, which leads me to believe that we've done our job. ... We managed to make a list full of songs by artists both big and small, yet all impactful in some way. It is, IMHO, a true representation of the year that was. The numbers don't lie, no matter how angry the Em fans might be about it.

To keep the conversation going, we've begun rolling out some of our staffers' personal lists on the Newsroom Blog and, in the interest of transparency, I'm going to reveal my list right now. This is the one I submitted to MTV News' countdown, and as you can tell, I had all the internal debates I mentioned earlier. I played politics and threw some personal picks in there. (I'll be honest, by putting Titus Andronicus at #1, I was secretly hoping they'd crack MTV's Top 25.) I hemmed and hawed and finally just had to hit 'Send' and be done with the whole thing. As you can see, neither Eminem nor Ke$ha made my list — but Antoine Dodson did. Maybe I should've changed that. Maybe I still will. Making lists is hard work ... but it's also work I'll never tire of doing.

It's big and bad but with surprisingly few 'bots — the trailer to "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" finally premiered online Wednesday (December 8).

The teaser for the latest installment in the high-tech robot saga actually features a lot of footage that many Americans have already seen from the U.S.' historic 1969 mission to the moon.

Scientists in crew cuts and glasses mill about the space center while famed anchor Walter Cronkite narrates the revolutionary event via archival footage. However, in the preview, there is one significant moon discovery that the world didn't see. As the astronauts bop along glacially in zero gravity, they come across an enormous craft that has crashed, which dwarfs the moonmen's spaceship in size and sophistication.

Sweeping shots of the vessel reveal an elaborately constructed enterprise as the astronauts gawk in wonder and confidently report back to the space station that there are no discernible signs of life. However, as the camera dives into the inner sanctum of the craft, the eye of a seemingly out-of-commission 'bot begins to light up.

The franchise's stars have insisted that this is the must-see installment of the series.

"This is, and I'm not just BS-ing you, it's the best movie we've made of the three by far," Shia LaBeouf told MTV News recently. "The script is the best script we've had. The second movie, we were in the middle of a writers' strike, writing on the go," he explained. "The first movie, we had the discovery, and this movie really is the fruition of the rhythm we've created out of five years working together. I'm super proud of this movie."

Co-star Josh Duhamel, who got to check out some of the footage, also gave the flick early raves.

"I've seen about 10 minutes of it — just the stuff we shot in Chicago — and it's pretty awesome," he said in October. "It's all in Michael Bay's head, so you never know what the film's going to turn out like, but judging by the script and what we've shot, it's, I think, every bit as good, if not better than, the first two."

"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" is set to hit theaters in July.

Diddy, Yoko Ono And More Remember John Lennon

Decades after his passing, John Lennon remains one of the most influential artists in pop music, with the Beatles catalog getting snapped up on iTunes and fans as protective of his legacy as ever.

On the 30th anniversary of his death Wednesday (December 8), fans participated in Lennon tributes across the globe — including a diverse lineup of Lennon's high-profile acolytes and members of his family who shared their thoughts about the game-changing activist and musician.

"RIP JOHN LENNON. ONE OF MUSICS GREATEST," Bad Boy mogul Diddy tweeted.

Fellow British musician and Kinks frontman Ray Davies recalled learning of Lennon's death from a reporter just days after running into the superstar's widow, Yoko Ono, on the streets of New York. Davies said Lennon's sound had always inspired him to pursue his own career. "I thought back to when I was a 17-year-old student in the recreation room at art college and heard John sing 'Twist and Shout' on the record player, and how I was blown away by his directness," Davis wrote in an op-ed piece for The New York Times. "How his voice cut through all the nonsense and sent a message to me that said, 'If I can do it then so can you, so get up off your backside and play some rock 'n' roll,' as if to throw down a musical gauntlet."

In her own tribute to Lennon, Ono blogged about an intimate moment she and her husband shared laughing about the fact that he had been preparing their tea incorrectly for years.

"On this day, the day he was assassinated for being a truth seeker and a communicator, what I remember is the night we both cracked up drinking tea," she wrote on her website, ImaginePeace.com."They say teenagers laugh with a drop of a hat. But nowadays I see many teenagers angry and sad at each other. John and I were hardly teenagers. But my memory of us is that we were a couple who laughed."

Lennon's son with Ono, Sean, tweeted his appreciation for the messages of support from fans. "Thank you for all the kind words. Let's all just pray for peace on earth," he wrote. "That's what he cared about most."

Ono echoed a similar sentiment in her letter, reminding fans that Lennon's ongoing efforts to effect change were central to his mission while he was still alive.

"The most important gift we received from him was not words, but deeds. He believed in Truth, and had dared to speak up. We all knew that he upset certain powerful people with it. But that was John. He couldn't have been in any other way," she wrote. "If he were here now, I think he would have shouted so we can all hear it. That truth was important. Because without knowing all the truth of what we did, we could not achieve world peace."

Lindsay Lohan's next career move may include busting some moves on national TV.

According to Radar Online, the actress is in talks to cut some rugs on ABC's hit ballroom-dance competition show, "Dancing With the Stars."

" 'Dancing With the Stars' producers have had Lindsay on their wish list of castmates for a very long time," an unnamed source told the website.

Although the starlet's offscreen antics have grabbed more headlines lately than her acting chops, Lohan's current approach to treatment has apparently impressed producers, who are ready to take a chance on the actress.

"The producers were concerned about her erratic behavior, but they are taking another look at asking her to come on for the next season because she is doing so well at her sober living facility," the source said. "The producers are aware that she would be available because she isn't going to be filming 'Inferno.' "

As the source pointed out, Lohan will have some time on her hands when she returns to the Hollywood scene. The actress was ousted from the Linda Lovelace biopic last month and replaced by "Watchmen" and "Couples Retreat" star Malin Akerman.

Lohan's mother, Dina, recently said that the "Mean Girls" star has really turned things around in rehab, describing her as a "different person."

"It was life-changing. The Betty Ford Center is just an amazing place," Dina said. "And I spent two weeks there in family sessions and you're not necessarily with the person who's in the facility. You spend time with families of addiction [talking about] the codependency. They're helping the families deal with the problem. ... [She's] happy and relaxed. She's been in a couple of facilities, but this one, to me, has really changed her. ... They bring the problem to the surface."

Lohan's camp did not respond to MTV News' request for comment at press time, while a show rep said "we don't respond to casting rumors."

Thirty years after John Lennon's death, fans and curious bystanders made their way to Central Park's Strawberry Fields on Wednesday (December 8) to pay their respects to the late Beatle.

Despite the cold weather, hundreds were gathered at any given moment to leave gifts, sing his songs and remember the music icon whose message of peace and unity still burns strong today.

"I think it's very spiritual," Flora Bromley said. "Everybody is just singing the songs. It's just a good feeling coming here."

"You can see what Lennon did with all the people," Carlos Rivera noticed. "You feel at home."

Some people just happened to discover the event by chance. Tara Heilingoetter was out to take pictures of the park when she noticed the commotion coming from Strawberry Fields. "I walked over and enjoyed the music and the singing and just the reflection on his life," Tara said. "I thought it was really beautiful."

Emily Vannorstrand said she has been a Beatles fan for her whole life, being raised by parents who were fans. "He had one common message: to spread love through music," Emily said. "And this is what I saw today."

The atmosphere, though recognizing a tragic event, brought a sense of hope and peace among the attendants. "Everybody is just in a good mood today!" observed second-generation Lennon fan Connie Solos.

Dressed up as a member of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Raymond Brisson ventured all the way from Rhode Island to celebrate Lennon's legacy. "There will always be a Strawberry Fields in everybody's heart," he declared. "John Lennon will always be there, no matter where we are or where we go."

Trick Daddy may call himself the mayor of Miami, but the city's tourism board would probably think twice before hiring the rapper as a spokesman.

According to the thug star, his hometown isn't fit for outsiders. And that's the sentiment he shares in his new book "Magic City: Trials of a Native Son." The first-time author writes candidly about his experiences in the sunny locale.

"I told the truth about the Miami life. It's a nice place to visit but you don't want to live here," he told MTV News about the book. "I lived through two major riots and three Category 5 hurricanes, I don't know if a lot of people could say that. And we grew up with the notion of 'If it wasn't for bad luck, there would be none,' so I decided, 'Let me write this book and give insight on what the real Miami is like on the other side of the bridge.' "

The tome is a gritty portrayal of the city, matching the material he spits on his albums. He said he decided to write the book after seeing so many projects — from documentaries to TV shows — shot in Miami, but not representing, what he felt, was the true essence of the 305.

Everything isn't South Beach, he said.

"They glorified Miami like it's a beautiful place, a beautiful city," he explained. "Miami don't got all the pretty women." He continued, "Crackheads are my best friends, and all the dope they was talking about in [the 2006 documentary] 'Cocaine Cowboys,' we were the ones that sold it. We killed each other over it and we were the ones that became addicted to it. Our kids' kids will still have to pay for this in years to come."

"Magic City" was published late last month and was co-written with Peter Bailey, who spent three years working with the rapper on the book. Now that the book is complete, however, TD said he's ready to return to music. He's in the process of putting together www.Thug.com, 2, which he hopes will remind fans of his appeal.

"A lot of people love my music but it's hard to really say that they are #1 Trick fans; they've bought a lot of bullsh-- over the years," he explained. "And me dealing with lupus and getting in trouble with jail, had opportunities to put myself in situations with people saying, 'Trick don't like to work.' I'm telling you this, I'm ready to work, I go everywhere but the electric chair, 'cause I done seen, heard everything but the wind."

'Jersey Shore' Star Vinny Recalls Pet Shark On 'When I Was 17'

Vinny Guadagnino does pretty well with the ladies on the on "Jersey Shore," but the reality star spent more time chasing furry creatures than girls growing up on New York's Staten Island.

As he explains on this week's episode of "When I Was 17," Vinny was a regular Dr. Doolittle.

"I've always been into animals, like, my whole life," he says in the episode, which airs Saturday at 11 a.m. ET and features fellow "Jersey Shore" stars and sometimes-couple Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola. "I've had like a million animals since I was 17. I had snakes, ferrets, and cats and dogs. I remember I had a hedgehog."

His Uncle Angelo says that visiting his nephew was like going to a kind of residential zoo. "It's easier to say what pets didn't he have, 'cause he was into every kind of pet you can imagine," he explains.

Vinny's mom, Paula, adds that the Guadagnino household might as well have been the neighborhood's official zoo.

"He used to say, 'You guys should really think about charging admission instead of going to the zoo.' He had a lot of pets," she recalls. And her son was particularly close to one of his pets, according to Paula. "I never knew how someone could get so attached to a shark."

Vinny cops to being something of a shark whisperer in his teen years. "When I was 17, I had a shark, a real-deal shark in a 55-gallon saltwater tank," he reveals. "I was so corny. I would get my webcam, and I used to put the webcam into the tank. I used to play 'Jaws' and feed the shark goldfish, live goldfish, while I was playing 'Jaws.' ... It was pretty cool, nonetheless, not gonna lie."

His friends definitely found it amusing. "This shark was like his light. He'd talk to it for hours," says Vinny's buddy Zani.

"When I Was 17" — this week featuring "Jersey Shore" stars Vinny, Ronnie and Sammi — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV

Christina Aguilera Semi-Nude Photos Hit The Net

'We are attempting to determine the identity of the hackers,' singer's rep says.

On Wednesday (December 8), racy photos of Christina Aguilera hit the Web. In a handful of shots, the singer appears semi-nude in what looks like a wardrobe room.

In one picture, Aguilera wears a see-through, white T-shirt and jeans, in another she's dressed in nude-colored underwear and holds her robe partially open, displaying her stomach. But it's two other stills that have had the Internet abuzz. Appearing in some kind of costume, the singer sits in a sexy pose on a Lucite stool — wearing only rhinestone chains and pasties — and touches herself provocatively.

Aguilera's rep told Us Weekly that while the photos are of the "Burlesque" star, they were leaked and not meant to be viewed by the public. "The photos of Christina Aguilera being leaked to the press were illegally obtained by a hacker who tapped into Christina's personal stylist's account," the rep said. "The photos were taken in the privacy of Ms. Aguilera's home and were used only in a personal exchange between the star and her stylist."

The rep went on to disparage those who leaked the photos, which were reportedly taken before the singer announced her split from husband Jordan Bratman.

"We find the actions of the hackers and the press who purchased and/or obtained these photos to be irresponsible and actionable," the rep continued. "We are attempting to determine the identity of the hackers and will pursue them aggressively. Their conduct is reprehensible."

Aretha Franklin has cancer, according to multiple reports.

A relative has confirmed to Detroit's Fox 2 news station that the iconic songstress is battling the disease, while The Detroit News reports that Franklin is suffering from pancreatic cancer.

Franklin was recently forced to cancel all her upcoming concert dates through May and underwent surgery last Thursday while fans helmed a prayer vigil in her native Detroit. Although she did not disclose the nature of her illness, the soul great released a statement saying the procedure was "highly successful."

"God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country," Franklin said. "God bless you all for your prayers!"

The reports cropped up the same day that civil-rights leader the Reverend Jesse Jackson gave an update about the singer's condition. "She's conscious, communicating and taking daily walks up and down the hall," Jackson told The Associated Press on Wednesday (December 8). He said he had visited the soul icon about four or five times, and added that her "spirits are high, and her faith is strong." "She has amazing strength — body, religion and faith," he said. "It's what he keeps her going."

The reported cancer diagnosis also comes after Franklin broke two ribs from a fall in August, which forced her to miss two concerts in New York.

The music luminary has been secretive about her health problems in the past. In 2004, Franklin was hospitalized for an undisclosed illness.

Share your well-wishes for Franklin and her family in the comments.

'Blue Valentine' NC-17 Rating Overturned

MPAA changes film's rating to an R after Weinstein Company appeal.
By Eric Ditzian

"Blue Valentine," the Ryan Gosling- and Michelle Williams-starring indie with a shot at a slew of Oscar nominations, was dealt a surprising blow in October when the Motion Picture Association of America slapped the drama with an NC-17 rating.

Now, after a personal appeal from Weinstein Company co-founder Harvey Weinstein, the MPAA has reversed course and changed the film's rating to an R, according to Variety.

The film had originally received the restrictive NC-17 rating due to what the MPAA termed a "shocking, gory depiction of a dying marriage." The most sexually explicit scene showed Gosling performing oral sex on Williams. But as observers pointed out in recent weeks, many films that feature oral sex — such as this year's "Black Swan," also an awards-season darling — nonetheless receive an R rating.

The Weinstein Company, which bought "Blue Valentine" after a buzzy debut at the Sundance Film Festival, lodged an official complaint with the MPAA in October. "We respect the work of the MPAA and we hope, after having a chance to sit down with them, they will see that our appeal is reasonable, and the film, which is an honest and personal portrait of a relationship, would be significantly harmed by such a rating," the company said in a statement at the time.

While the film, which is set to hit theaters December 31, would have seen its advertising opportunities and box-office potential adversely affected by the NC-17 rating, the publicity surrounding the rating also served as something of a PR tool. According to Deadline Hollywood, the MPAA's reversal came in a unanimous decision.

In a recent interview, Gosling spoke out about what he saw as a ratings double standard when it came to sex scenes on the big screen. "There's plenty of oral sex scenes in a lot of movies, where it's a man receiving it from a woman — and they're R-rated," he said. " 'Black Swan' has an oral scene between two women and that's an R rating, but ours is between a husband and his wife and that's NC-17? ... It stigmatizes the movie in a big way."

T.I.'s Manager Says Repeat Prison Bids 'Get Frustrating'

'But I'm in it to the end,' Grand Hustle's Jason Geter tells MTV News of standing by No Mercy MC.

On Tuesday, T.I. released his seventh album, No Mercy, was released with the MC behind bars at an Arkansas correctional facility, where he's serving 11 months for a parole violation. While T.I. addressed fans directly Tuesday, thanking them for their support, MTV News spoke with the Grand Hustle rapper's label partner and manager Jason Geter about promoting another Tip album while the MC is away.

"I'm human, so of course it gets frustrating," Geter said. "But at the same time, I'm in it.

"I've been in it since day one. I've been friends with him as well as business partners, so you just have to switch your hats. You have to look at it from both standpoints: the business and the personal side. Sure, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't frustrating for me and for him, but I'm in it to the end."

Geter said he talks to the King of the South quite often.

"I speak to him on a daily basis, through e-mail," Geter said. "He's cool; he's dealing with it. With him, it's crazy. He's better prepared than most for this situation because — I don't want this to sound wrong — but he has been in jail so much. Still, he's definitely tired of it, I'm sure."

Since T.I. is incarcerated in a federal correctional facility, he's allowed access to e-mail, unlike Lil Wayne, who was reprimanded for possessing even an iPod during his stint at Rikers Island. Recently, Tip took to his TrapMuzik.com website and essentially said that if he wasn't such a troublemaker, he wouldn't be as interesting to his fans.

While Geter said, "I don't know if I agree with all of his words," the MC plans to release future online entries: "We're going to do things from time to time and speak out; It'll just be whatever's on his mind," Geter explained.

As for Tip's new wife, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle, whom the MC married earlier this year, she's holding strong.

"His family is very close-knit and very large," Geter said. "Sure, Tiny's there by herself, but her mom and Tip's mom aren't far away. I'm sure the kids are definitely missing their dad. At this point, they're just dealing."

K'Naan Film Will Get Beyond Exotic Backstory, DJ Skee Says

Skee tells Mixtape Daily new documentary, 'Up Close,' will introduce 'Wavin' Flag' rapper to Stateside hip-hop fans.

DJ Skee made his mark with mixtapes before moving onto radio, and now the multimedia entrepreneur is breaking into the documentary biz via his Skee.TV production company.

The project, "Up Close," is a doc series set to kick off with a three-part look at Somalian rapper K'Naan. The international star's "Wavin' Flag" became the official anthem for the 2010 World Cup and his live shows have earned him critical acclaim.

But in hip-hop circles, K'Naan still isn't as recognizable as a Young Jeezy or a Talib Kweli. So Skee sought out the wordsmith to uncover the story behind his rise.

"It was interesting 'cause I was able to see what he did overseas and internationally. He did the World Cup theme song, a #1 record in 22 countries, having Coke invest $200 million into his campaign and single," Skee explained to Mixtape Daily.

"He was a dope talent. I heard the music, but I wanted to see what he was about. I checked out a show and didn't really know what to expect. I thought some fans, a mixed group of people, maybe. I went and there was all young cats, and they knew every word to every song. There was even a point where they played the intro to 'Wavin' Flag' and he just held his microphone out for 10 minutes and held them captive — he didn't even say a word."

The rapper's calling card is that he's a Somalian immigrant who traveled to Toronto to learn English and eventually made it in the music business. But according to Skee, "it's almost like he's a sob story and [people feel like] he doesn't belong in this hip-hop world, but he gets props from Jay-Z and Nas."

For the doc, directed by Matt Alonzo and Michael Busalacchi, Skee followed K'Naan around during three tour stops: Boston, New York and Washington, D.C. The footage will be released in three parts, each telling a different story about the artist; afterward, the complete project will be available to view at Skee.TV.

Ultimately, Skee is hoping fans get a glimpse into K'Naan's life and discover for themselves what makes the artist beloved around the world.

"People are so finicky, they think he's only cool 'cause he has that story," Skee said. "People don't attach to the music. They say, 'Dope story,' but don't give it a chance. I wanted to show a different side. That story had been told, even if he has the most boring story, which he doesn't. His music is so compelling and what he's doing is, too, so I want to show that side and that new side and open people's eyes to get that respect he deserves over here."

Fans can check out part 1 of "Up Close" at Skee.TV on Thursday.

Young Jeezy's manager, Demetrius Ellerbee, has denied a report that the rapper was arrested in the Bahamas on Saturday.

"It's not true," Ellerbee told MTV News.

According to Bahamian newspaper The Tribune, Jeezy was on his way to a show in an area of the island called New Providence when he was arrested by local officials. While the reason for his arrest was not specified, the paper says the rapper wasn't held for very long.

"He was here with us a short while. He passed through the station briefly on Saturday," said Superintendent Ashton Greenslade, an officer at the Wulff Road station. "He was booked in here and taken to CDU (Central Detective Unit)."

A Tribune source surmised that the Atlanta MC was simply "in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Elsewhere, Rick Ross recently responded to what he took as a dis from Young Jeezy in The Source magazine, stemming from the pair's beef regarding Ross' "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)." Following the release of the Bawse's single, Jeezy dropped his own "B.M.F." freestyle and the pair have been on the outs since.

"It's not like I'm in Miami and you in New York," said Ross. "We see each other. That's the only issue I had. It was sideways. So I made a record, 'Summer's Mine,' just to [let him know], if we gonna play that sport, let's put it on the table like men. If it was just a freestyle that the world took the wrong way, leave it alone. That's how I took it."
