On Tuesday, Selena Gomez will release her new album, A Year Without Rain. Fans already love its singles "Round & Round" and the title track, and now Gomez has the ultimate seal of approval on the album from her pal and fellow superstar Taylor Swift.

"It was so funny, I got to see her and we played each other both of our records, and I was so excited," Gomez told MTV News. "I'm so excited for her record 'cause it's amazing. But then she heard mine and it's so funny 'cause she's very passionate and she's very dramatic — which I think is why we're friends because we're both dramatic — but she has her favorites already."

So, what are the Swift-approved tracks? "She likes 'Rock God and 'Ghost of You' a lot," Gomez said. "But she definitely danced and had her little thing. She's completely honest with me, so it was nice to have her feedback."

Gomez is just as stoked for Swift's October release of her highly anticipated Speak Now album. "My favorite songs from her record would be 'Dear John' and another one ... it's number 13 on the record 'cause that's her favorite number ... it's really sweet," she teased. "There's two that I'm absolutely in love with."

With fans already getting a taste of Swift's new album thanks to "Mine" and the VMA-premiered track "Innocent" hitting the airwaves, Gomez thinks they'll really love what they hear. "Her album is going to be awesome. I think people are gonna be really surprised. It's not different [but] you just don't really believe she could top it, in a way," she explained. "She took her style and made it bigger. It's going to be really good."

James Franco Is 'Fascinated' By 'Twilight'

Posted: 20 Sep 2010 03:52 AM PDT

'The go-to guys, Taylor and Rob, are in the tent [and] it's almost like a 'Brokeback Mountain' scene,' he tells MTV News of 'Eclipse.'

James Franco is becoming not only an actor-of-all-trades, what with his stints in dramas, comedies and soap operas, but also a bit of a Renaissance man, having gone back to school for a master's degree, filming a documentary, etc. So it should come as no surprise that he has some very insightful thoughts on the phenomenon that is "Twilight."

When we caught up with Franco at the Toronto International Film Festival recently, where he was alongside director Danny Boyle promoting their buzzy "127 Hours," we asked him his thoughts on the series.

"I haven't read the last one! I kind of know what happens ... some very strange birth, right?" he asked rhetorically about Stephenie Meyer's fourth book in the series, "Breaking Dawn." "I read a part of it. I think I got to the sex scene, but it was so brief, I didn't even know if it was the actual sex scene," he admitted. "It was kind of a letdown after all that buildup."

But did he enjoy the three novels he has read?

"I wouldn't say I enjoy them, but I'm fascinated with them. I'm interested in the metaphor of the vampire placed in the high school setting and how a relationship with a vampire can stand in for general feelings that people have as teenagers," he said. "And the obsession people have with that is also fascinating to me."

Franco also revealed that he has seen the three "Twilight" movies, enough to call out series superstars Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner by first names and cite the infamous "tent scene" in the process.

"The movies are interesting also because they've really become part of the whole 'Twilight' phenomenon, and it's really hard to extricate those actors from the reading experience or just the phenomenon of 'Twilight' now. They've become a part of it to the point that the movies are almost commenting on themselves," Franco said. "There will be a scene where the go-to guys, Taylor and Rob, are in the tent, it's almost like a 'Brokeback Mountain' scene, where the two guys are talking in a tent and the girl is asleep, and they're having, like, this romantic moment almost through her, in a way. One of them says, 'Well, I'm hotter than you,' and it's almost like they're winking at the fans, like to the Team Jacob or the Team Edwards."

Perhaps we should enlist Mr. Franco for further "Twilight" analysis ...

Megan Fox Is 'Kind Of Hooked' On 'Real Housewives'

'It's really embarrassing,' she says of her reality-TV viewing

Newlywed Megan Fox seems to have settled into a very domestic routine.

The "Jonah Hex" actress made it official with her longtime beau, Brian Austin Green, in June and even through she's been juggling film projects and hitting the promo circuit in recent months, it appears she's also been boning up on her reality TV.

"I've been watching 'Real Housewives.' It's embarrassing, but I have," Fox admitted to MTV News during an interview at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she was promoting "Passion Play." Fox didn't mention whether her recent nuptials have completely changed her taste in television, but she did reveal that she's gained a newfound interest in the show. "You know, I hated previous seasons of the New Jersey 'Housewives,' but this season I got kind of hooked on that, and it's really embarrassing."

Fox might be just now getting into the Bravo hit about a crew of catfighting 40ish New Jersey dames flashing their cash and spewing fiery tirades against one another, but any proper "Real Housewives of New Jersey" addict has seen the epic reunion in which newly bankrupt Teresa Giudice and newly departed "Housewives" co-star Danielle Staub go at it. So MTV News had to ask: Is Fox officially a "Housewives" junkie?

"I didn't see the reunion, [but] it's TiVo'd," Fox said, indicating she planned to play back the recorded mayhem when she got a chance. "I hear it's scandalous."

Fox probably hasn't had time to empty her TiVo with the range of projects on her plate, including the upcoming "Passion Play," in which she plays Lily, a circus freak with wings sprouting from her back.

New Boyz Move On From 'Jerkin' ' With Too Cool to Care

Posted: 20 Sep 2010 05:10 AM PDT

'It may not be jerk tracks, but it's a lot better than the first album,' Legacy says of group's sophomore album.
By Steven Roberts

The New Boyz broke onto the scene in early 2009 with their hit song "You're a Jerk," becoming, for all intents and purposes, the face of SoCal's skinny-jeaned, bright-colored, fun-going jerkin' culture. Their song helped to spread "jerkin' " around the country and was responsible for your younger siblings, cousins, aunt, uncles and everyone else doing the Roger Rabbit and dropping it low to the ground last summer.

But like most artists, the New Boyz felt the need to either evolve or be remembered as the soundtrack to an embarrassing moment at a family BBQ. MTV News caught up with the New Boyz ahead of the release of their sophomore album, Too Cool to Care, and the duo said it was difficult telling die-hard jerkin' fans that their new album wouldn't have much jerkin' music.

"When we announced that the new album isn't going to have too much jerkin' stuff on it, they were kind of shocked," Legacy said. "But I think they are going to be really, really satisfied with this album because it may not be jerk tracks, but it's a lot better than the first album, which was full of jerk tracks. I promise ya'll we're not going to let ya'll down with this one."

Legacy promised that they were not abandoning their jerkin' roots, however. He said the group wanted to show themselves as artists, but also plan to release a mixtape geared more toward partying and dancing.

"The album is more important," Ben J said. "That's the one you really look at. When you put out a mixtape, that's the one you have fun with. So we're going to put out the mixtape and put the club bangers, the dance tracks, whatever [on it]."

Their debut album, Skinny Jeanz and a Mic, was critically well-received, as the duo impressed with their lyrics and delivery. But Legacy said he felt that many detractors were more concerned with clothes and the dance-y beats.

"One of the things with Skinny Jeans and a Mic, bar-wise, delivery, we were getting off, but the tracks were so different, crazy and dance record-y that people kind of ignored that," said Legacy. "They were more focused on these dudes wearing skinny jeans, 'they are making jerk stuff,' so that's why we made sure on this second album, we let it be known that we can go in."

Street King: Shawty Lo

Holding It Down For: Bankhead

Mixtape: Bowen Homes Carlos

Real Spit: Shawty Lo will continue to salute his projects until the day he goes to that upper room. With his projects torn down by the city of Atlanta, Lo keeps the memory alive on his new mixtape, Bowen Homes Carlos.

"It's the good, the bad and the ugly," Shawty said about the Bowen projects being demolished. "Good thing is, there was a lot of murders going on in Bowen Homes. The crime rate was high. It's bad for the people who lived there and are unfortunate and do not have anything. There were no extra bills. Zero rent. Now they gotta get out there and try to make it. It's getting harder and harder these days."

Lo's BH movement is more than music. He's coming out with a documentary, a fragrance and a writing project.

"What makes this mixtape special, I got a DVD that comes with it. It's called 'Bowen Homes Carlos' also. So it's a visual that comes with this mix CD. I got a new cologne, Lo Seduction. It's for the fellas, but it could go unisex. I got the book 'BHC.' It's about my life when I was coming up in Bankhead, when I didn't have nothing, when I was unfortunate. My mother was on drugs, my daddy was elsewhere. I was raised by my grandmother. When she passed to cancer, that put me in the streets. I turned a negative into a positive. There's only one judge, and that's the man above. It feels good to be here. I must've done something right."

Joints to Check For

» "Birds." "Me, my man Gucci Mane and the Birdman are on that song," Lo said. "Two bosses with another boss. I really can't talk about birds on MTV. I'll just say pigeons, falcons, chickens. everything. Birds."

» "Tunnel Vision." "M.O.N.E.Y.!" the Atlanta native explained about what the song is about. "Money, man. M.O.N.E.Y. is all I see. I'm focused, man. Look at my eyes. Money. Mine is all I see."

» "Say Yeah" (featuring Snoop Dogg). "That track was brought to me by my homie CJ. When I did it, it sounded like a West Coast feel. So I got Uncle Snoop. He blessed me with a verse."

Lady Gaga To Attend Maine Anti-'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Rally

Lady Gaga's campaign against the U.S. Armed Forces' "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy has been building momentum in the past few weeks. The singer has publicly championed the repeal of the measure, by flying out members of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network for the VMAs, tweeting her opinions to senators and releasing viral videos urging her fans to get involved in the cause.

Now, after hitting the white carpet and taking to the Web, Gaga is heading to Maine to raise awareness at a large gay-rights event. The pop superstar is slated to appear at the #4the14k rally organized by the SLDN in Portland, Maine on Monday. The title references the approximately 14,000 citizens discharged under DADT, and veterans affected by the military's controversial measure will address attendees. The event will kick off at 4 p.m. ET.

"Meet me in Portland, Maine 2moro, 9/20 to help repeal #DADT. I'm holding a Rally + speaking live in Deering Oaks Park," Gaga tweeted on Sunday (September 19).

SLDN maintains that the organization seeks to draw the support of Republican Maine Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, who could significantly affect the passing of the National Defense Authorization Act, a bill which includes the repeal of DADT. The bill would benefit from bipartisan support in order to overtake Arizona Senator John McCain's filibuster.

Gaga has been working with the organization recently and detailed her views on DADT in a viral video released on Friday.

"[The] SLDN's advocacy proves that these soldiers are being searched; superiors are going through their e-mails and private belongings, calling family members and operating based on assumptions. Ultimately, the law is being enforced using gay profiling. ... In short, not only is the law unconstitutional, but it's not even being properly enforced by the government," Gaga said.

"I am here to be a voice for my generation, not the generation of the senators who are voting, but for the youth of this country, the generation that is affected by this law and whose children will be affected," she continued. "We are not asking you to agree with or approve the moral implications of homosexuality; we're asking you to do your job, to protect the constitution."

Katy Perry Hits Las Vegas For Bachelorette Party

Like many brides-to-be, Katy Perry didn't let anything come between her and a final night of single-girl debauchery — not even the arrest of her fiancé, Russell Brand.

Perry, whose future husband was taken into custody after an altercation with a paparazzo at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday, hit Las Vegas Saturday night for a bachelorette party thrown by fellow pop princess and celebrity bestie Rihanna.

Vegas celebrity columnist Robin Leach dished that the "California Gurls" singer and a few pals hit the pool at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Saturday afternoon with a bunch of huge pink playthings. Later that night, the "Waking Up in Vegas" star made a fittingly grand appearance at the MGM Grand for a performance of Cirque du Soleil's "KÀ," showing up with 25 partygoers in a stretch limousine. Perry and Rihanna were later snapped hanging out backstage with the cast before living it up at XS nightclub into the wee hours.

According to People, Perry even stuck to some typical bachelorette-party traditions and rocked a veil poolside. The starlet, of course, put her own saucy spin on things by affixing the bridal garb to her bikini bottom. When she hit XS later, the future bride swapped out the swimsuit for a glittering black dress and tiny top hat with a veil.

After commenting earlier this year that she had to pull off a bachelorette party to rival Perry's upcoming nuptials, it appears party planner Rihanna made sure the affair was packed with festivities.

"I have to come up with something cool, because she's getting married in India," Rihanna said in April. "So I'm like, 'OK, now what do I do to match that?' "

Perry seemed pleased with resulting bash and joked on Twitter Saturday, typing, "Signing up for a liver transplant now."

Even though she was rocking through her last days as a single lady, Perry didn't forget about her man. On Friday, the singer stood up for Brand, tweeting, "If you cross the line & try an put a lens up my dress, my fiancé will do his job & protect me. #standbyyourman #don'tf---withtheBrands."

#2 "Easy A" ($18.2 million)
#3 "Devil" ($12.6 million)
#4 "Resident Evil: Afterlife" ($10.1 million)
#5 "Alpha and Omega" ($9.2 million)

In a weekend stacked with new movies, the bank-robbery action pic "The Town" ran the box office. The film, which also took the top spot on Friday, roped in an estimated $23.8 million, a showing that has probably eased the mind of directorBen Affleck, who once told MTV News that he felt "a huge amount of pressure" crafting the flick.

The high-school laugh-getter "Easy A,", received decent marks from audiences, coming in at #2. The teen-friendly comedy, driven by rising screen star Emma Stone, who fought through an asthma attack to complete one of the film's pretend-sex scenes, rang up $18.2 million in ticket sales.

M. Night Shyamalan's latest project "Devil," featuring a crew of strangers trapped in an elevator as creepy stuff goes down in the confined space, nabbed the third-place slot. The thriller, which even gets a few screams out of Shyamalan, posted $12.6 million during its debut in theaters.

"Resident Evil: Afterlife," slipped to fourth place in its second week on screens. Pushed down by three hearty debuts, the zombie-blasting Milla Jovovich-vehicle raked in another $10.1 million. The number brings the film's total haul to an estimated $44 milllion. In addition to the film's strong showing, Jovovich recently confirmed that a fifth "Resident Evil" movie is on the way.

The animated cross-country adventure "Alpha and Omega", packed with voice-over performances from a diverse cast of stars including Justin Long, Hayden Panettiere, Christina Ricci, Danny Glover and Dennis Hopper, came in fifth place. The story of two wolves (voiced by Long and Panettiere) making their way back home opened with an estimated $9.2 million.

Lady Gaga Fans Speak Out Against 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell'

Singer posts online videos of fans urging senators to repeal controversial policy.

When it comes to the repeal of the U.S. Armed Forces' controversial "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, Lady Gaga is proving that she's not giving up without a fight.

Gaga, who has often used her celebrity to speak out in favor of gay rights, recently launched a campaign to prompt lawmakers to repeal "Don't Ask," which bars openly gay Americans from serving in the military and has prompted the discharge of thousands of servicemembers. She walked the VMA white carpet with former members of the military who were kicked out because of their sexual orientation and she has been tweeting with high-profile politicians such as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. The pop icon has also blasted Arizona Senator John McCain for his attempt at blocking the repeal of the measure.

On Friday, Gaga released a video statement explaining her views on the policy, imploring several senators to vote in favor of the Defense Authorization Bill which contains language that would lead to the repeal of "Don't Ask," and actually picking up the phone and calling New York Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. She closed the video urging viewers to address their senators and support Reid in his efforts to bring down the policy.

And when Mother Monster speaks, her fans listen.

Gaga released another video linking to over 30 thirty video clips from young people voicing their dedication to changing "Don't Ask."

"Hi everyone, this is Gaga. Hello Senator McCain. I've been on the internet all day watching videos that have been sent in to repeal 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell,' Gaga says. "It's overwhelming, it's emotional and quite honestly I can't believe it. So, I wanted you to see them. Please watch, here they are," the megastar says before blowing a kiss.

A playlist featuring fans from around the country follows the taped statement, beginning with a message from Alicia, an openly gay fan who recounts her experience in the military.

"I chose to serve, I did not choose to be gay," Alicia says. "Please repeal 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.' It is difficult enough to find soldiers, sailors and airmen who have the honor, courage and commitment to serve."

Alicia insists that the policy contributes to a culture of fear among servicemembers, and recalls going to extreme lengths to fit in, including marrying a man and later "contributing to the near 75 percent divorce rate in the military."

In a video posted from the account 5awesomemonsters, one young woman declares, "It's not fair that in the world that we live in today, society is much more OK with two men holding guns, than men holding hands."

A pair of friends, Lauren and Ellie in Colorado, sent a video showing fans how to call lawmakers, before leaving a voicemail for Senator Michael Bennet and getting their neighbors to ring up the politician as well.

The calls apparently worked as Senator Bennet later responded with his own online video pledging his support for the cause.

"Thanks for your advocacy [and] making sure your voices are heard. It's so important for you to be involved in our democracy," Bennet says. "So, my answer to you is that I support the repeal of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.' "

User americanpie3491 posted a video in which a young lady cheerfully calls Michigan Senator Carl Levin to thank him for his commitment to repealing the law.

Evan in Indiana filmed a video after calling politicians Evan Bayh and Richard Lugar and asking them to support fellow senators Reid and Levin.

"A person's sexuality has no impact on their ability to serve and defend our country," Evan says. "I hope you take this message into consideration and remember that you have been elected to be my voice."

Florida resident Diana suggested that the policy is inconsistent with other U.S. laws, such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964, aimed at combating discriminatory practices in the workplace.

"Other places we work at, we're not able to be discriminated against because of marital status, religion or sexual orientation," Diana states. "What makes it OK to discriminate against soldiers who are fighting for this country for democracy and are willing to give their lives for this country?"

Rachelseesfireworks put up a slideshow featuring a young woman holding a series of white placards, including one that read, "They serve your country with their heart, so why can't they use that same heart to love whomever they want?"

"If you're under the impression that one person is less valuable than another because of their sexual orientation, you are very wrong," Alexander Michael says in his video, before ringing his senator. "If they are willing to die for this country, you should give them the equal opportunity as another person."

Gaga fan inesthomasine explained why she believes it's important for young people to get involved in the movement.

"We are the generation that needs to have our voices heard," she says. "Because if we choose not to, we will live with the consequences for years to come."

Former co-stars and offscreen newlyweds Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem have revealed their latest collaboration: a baby.

Speculation spiked recently when a photo of Cruz on the set of the upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" surfaced sporting a noticeably fuller waistline. Bardem, who tied the knot with Cruz in July, has confirmed that his new wife is expecting.

"It is true," Bardem told reporters at a press conference in Rome promoting his summer romance film "Eat Pray Love." "I am very happy." Bardem said the Oscar-winning couple had not decided on a name yet.

Although the actor did confirm the pregnancy, he declined to dish any further, adhering to the stars' tendency to keep their personal lives private. "Don't make me say anything else," Bardem said.

The Spanish actors, who met in 1992 while filming "Jamón, Jamón" and teamed up once again for the 2008 Woody Allen-helmed movie "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," married in a small ceremony in the Bahamas in early July. The duo also have his-and-hers Oscar statuettes. Cruz won Best Supporting Actress for "Vicky" and Bardem took home Best Supporting Actor for his turn as a hair-raising murderer in "No Country for Old Men."

Up next for Cruz will be the fourth installment of the swashbuckling "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise in which the actress plays Blackbeard's daughter. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer told MTV News that Cruz, who will shake up the series as Captain Jack Sparrow's love interest, is expected to bring the heat in the upcoming role. "She's so fiery and fun," Bruckheimer said. "I can just imagine how the screen is going to sizzle with [Cruz and Depp] on it."

Big Boi, Rutina Wesley, Joey Lawrence Reminisce On 'When I Was 17'

The stars remember flunking tests and having no underwear on the latest episode.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

"When I was 17 years old, I went to go [take] my driver's license test," Big Boi remembered on the latest episode of "When I Was 17". Although the young MC was already showing tons of promise and was well on his way to hip-hop stardom with fellow ATLien and Outkast spitter Andre 3000, there was one task that eluded the budding star.

"I was so worried about trying to parallel park. I was always trying to slide this way, slide that way. I'm so nervous about that, I get in the car, I'm driving and the man's like, 'Well, you did great and everything, you can parallel park, but you didn't put on your seatbelt, so you failed.' I was like, 'Damn.' "

Like Big Boi, "Blossom" hunk Joey Russo was a talented teen dealing with fame. Unlike the young MC, Russo had to handle a unique professional experience that only comes with the ability to spark teen girl hysteria with a flip of your pretty, pretty hair: having your own doll.

"Of course I have a Joey Russo doll ... or 30," Lawrence's mother Donna quipped. Although the plastic Joey doppelganger was mom-approved, the TV teen idol didn't think the plastic likeness truly captured his image.

"Doesn't it look a cross between something from "Grease"?" Lawrence said, examining the figure decked out in mid-'90s finery like ripped jeans and a leather jacket. "It's like Danny Zuko meets me, sort of."

Lawrence did concede that making the Russo doll was a cool process "because you'd go and they had the molds of your head and you had to sign off and say 'Mmm that nose is nice.' "

The doll-makers got the noses fine, but they needed some motherly advice when it came to plastic Russo's too-hot-for-TV-parts. Mama Lawrence insisted the doll be outfitted with some underwear.

"I didn't want there to be any attention on areas that shouldn't be discussed," Lawrence's mom explained. Whoa.

"True Blood" starlet Rutina Wesley was still flirting with the idea of fame when she was 17 and of course, what better way to live out starry-eyed dreams than to appear in a production of the musical "Fame."

"What I love about 'Fame' is it's sort of like I was living 'Fame.' I was going to a performing-arts high school, [and] I knew the hard work it took to be there. The auditions were brutal for that show, I remember I had to dance, sing and act, and it was really tough," Wesley recalled. As die-hard fans of "True Blood" know, the actress found her true home was in the spotlight.

"The theater at my school was awesome," she laughed. "It was a 1,400-seat auditorium, so, being in that auditorium at 17, and having, like 1,400 people cheer for you was, like, one of the most amazing feelings that I've ever felt, energy-wise. It just felt right."

"When I Was 17" airs Saturdays at 11 a.m. on MTV.
