With 13 nominations, there was no way Lady Gaga was going home empty-handed at Sunday night's (September 12) MTV Video Music Awards. And when the international pop/fashion icon stepped up to accept her sixth award of the night, for Video of the Year, she did what she always does: broke off a piece for her legion of fans by teasing the name of her upcoming album.

On a night when Kanye West seemingly came all the way back from music jail with yet another eye-popping performance that put most (or at least some) of last year's stage-crashing antics to rest, Taylor Swift appeared to answer Kanye's bum-rush with some lyrical barbs of her own, and everyone from Justin Bieber and B.o.B to Drake and Nicki Minaj made their VMA debuts. In the end, though, the night belonged to Mother Monster.

Gaga got the night started early with a pre-show win for Best Dance Video for "Bad Romance" and Best Collaboration for "Telephone" with Beyoncé, the beginning of what would be an avalanche of trophies and, of course, a parade of one-of-a-kind outfits that were as beautiful as they were complicated.

Even without one of her iconic performances, Lady G made her presence known, sidling down the white carpet in a regal gold-and-burgundy ball gown by the late Alexander McQueen, topped by a metallic golden mohawk headpiece over a gray-and-blue wig, accompanied by some special guests in uniform.

The night blasted off in high fashion, with Eminem making his triumphant return to the VMA stage courtesy of a gritty run through his comeback single, "Not Afraid." Accompanied by an orchestra, chorus of gospel singers and drummers, he was joined later on by Rihanna for a few bars of their smash domestic-strife hit "Love the Way You Lie."

Host Chelsea Handler didn't waste time getting to the funny, strutting to the stage with an homage to her love affair with rappers, as Lil Jon and Flo Rida gave her a hard pat on the backside to pump her up before the show. The high didn't last long, though, as surprise guest star Lindsay Lohan confronted the "Chelsea Lately" comedian in the hallway and berated her when she noticed the vodka-loving funnywoman's blinking alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet.

As expected, Handler pulled no punches in lampooning the night's musical stars in her opening monologue, taking the stage to Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" while wearing a model of a suburban home on her head and releasing a single white dove from under her skirt as a group of red-leather-clad dancers gyrated all around. "God, I don't know how you do it, wearing that sh-- on your head, Lady Gaga," she quipped.

The night's first award, for Best Female Video, began the Gaga-lanche as the epic "Bad Romance" clip notched another win. Striding to the stage in her flowing McQueen dress and her 10-inch golden lobster-claw heels, Gaga gushed, "It's such a dream come true to be here tonight, and tonight, little monsters, we're the cool kids at the party."

Jared Leto and his 30 Second to Mars bandmates were probably bummed they rode their bikes to the big party, because it's gonna be a big pain to balance that Best Rock Video Moonman for the Leto-directed "Kings and Queens" on their handlebars on the way home. But we suspect they won't mind. "This award doesn't so much belong to us; it belongs to the most amazing family of friends and fans around the world that we could have ever imagined," Leto said.

Running through the crowd in a varsity jacket, Justin Bieber hopped onto the stage outside the Nokia Theatre and busted through his signature hit "Baby" surrounded by male dancers in B-blinged red sweaters, ending "Somebody to Love" with one of his signature drum solos. The night also brought a silky-smooth set from his mentor, Usher, who slid gracefully through "DJ Got Us Falling in Love" and "OMG."

Bieber was so jacked to win Best New Artist that the teen wandered around a bit while trying to get to the stage as he passed competitor Ke$ha on his way to accept the Moonman for his "Baby" video.

Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine made a lasting impression in her VMA debut with a high-energy performance of her breakthrough hit "Dog Days Are Over," and house artist deadmau5, wearing his signature mouse head, tricked-out with a giant digital display, did his best to take the show into commercials in style, with assists from Travie McCoy, who broke off a bit of "Billionaire," Jason Derülo, who showed off his green laser gloves during "Ridin' Solo" and Swedish dancing queen Robyn, grinding out her "Dancing on My Own."

Though the competition was stiff, you had to know that Eminem was going to snag Best Male Video for his riveting "Not Afraid." Unfortunately, Shady had to leave as soon as his performance ended to get back to New York for his second set of shows with Jay-Z, so Nicki Minaj accepted on his behalf. He will have to also wait for the shipment of his Best Hip-Hop Video award for "Not Afraid," since he snagged that one later in the show.

Mother Monster was at it again in the Best Pop Video category, slaying the competition with yet another win for "Bad Romance." She'd changed into yet another complicated contraption, this one a giant shiny black gown that required two handlers to negotiate, topped by a set of black liberty spikes on her head. "Yeah!" she screamed, hoisting the statue in the air and teasing MTV for asking her to cut so much out of the clip, which she said she defiantly refused. "Because we were born this way, baby!" she howled, in an unwitting preview of her announcement a short time later.

When it came time for the big one, it was one icon (Cher) handing it over to a new icon, yes, Gaga, for "Bad Romance." Dressed in a seemingly flesh-free version of her now-infamous meat dress, Gaga quipped, "I never thought I'd be asking Cher to hold my meat purse." Overcome with emotion, Gaga said she was nervous going into the show that she would let her beloved fans down. She, of course, didn't do that and celebrated by announcing the name of her upcoming record, Born This Way, busting out the soulful chorus to the title track as a bonus.

It was a cakewalk for Gaga in the professional categories as well, as "Bad Romance" took the awards for Editing, Direction and Choreography, while the Special Effects award went to Muse for "Uprising" and Welch snagged one win for Art Direction for "Dog Days Are Over." The cinematography nod went to Jay-Z and Alicia Keys for "Empire State of Mind."

Kanye West may have written a song for his onetime stage-crashing victim, Taylor Swift, but it was Swift who made her feelings known about West's now-infamous 2009 stage dive. In keeping with her style of chronicling her ups and downs in her highly personal lyrics, Swift debuted the tune on the show, seeming entitled "Innocent."

She artfully left the lyrics vague but pointedly hit lines about losing your balance on a tightrope while cautioning that it's not too late to get it back. "Thirty-two is still growing up now/ Who you are is not what you did/ You're still an innocent."

From mixtapes and watching the VMAs at home to storming the big stage, Drake made the most of his debut on the show. Teaming up with Swizz Beatz and Mary J. Blige for the Rat Pack-alicious white tuxedo and Vegas lounge saunter through "Fancy," Drizzy strutted out like he'd been coming to the big game, like, forever, his name in bright lights above the stage.

Though they only met a day before, B.o.B and Paramore's Hayley Williams were in perfect sync with a piano-tickling Bruno Mars during a run through B.o.B's "Airplanes," which morphed into an emotional sway through a verse of "The Only Exception" by Paramore.

As promised, Linkin Park found an epic setting to match the triumphant sound of their single, "The Catalyst," setting up shop outside Los Angeles' iconic Griffith Park Observatory to howl out the lyrics to their song about living on the edge.

The night came to a close with a typically riveting performance from last year's VMA goat, Kanye West. Walking onto the black-and-white starburst stage in a red suit, black shirt and neck full of gold chains, leaning into a vintage MPC drum machine set up on a Doric column and plinking out the melody to his new song, "Runaway," as three ballet dancers trailing giant swatches of pale fabric ran circles around him.

If Swift got her revenge earlier in the night, Kanye helped her out, singing the lines, "I'm so gifted at finding at what I don't like the most/ So I think that it's time for us to have a toast/ Let's have a toast for the douche bags/ Let's have a toast for the a--holes/ Let's have a toast for the scumbags/ Every one of them that I know."

As usual, it was just Kanye alone onstage for the most part, joined briefly by the Clipse's Pusha T mid-song for a typically searing verse. In the end, Kanye grabbed an Auto-Tuned mic and repeated the chorus one more time and raised his hand in triumph as a shower of golden sparks rained down behind him and the crowd shouted his name, perhaps signaling his complete return from the pop culture doghouse.

LOS ANGELES — Redemption seems certain for Kanye West after he premiered a new song during the closing set at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.

The host of the evening certainly thought so: She was singing the tune when MTV News spotted her on the way back to her dressing room.

"Shout out to the douche bags," Chelsea Handler sang while walking down the stairs from the backstage area. "I need that as a mix."

West received a loud ovation from the various music industry insiders, MTV staffers and photographers gathered backstage when he and his entourage headed back to the area post-performance. Aziz Ansari — this year's MTV Movie Awards host — introduced the performance and sought out 'Ye afterward to offer praise.

The Clipse's Pusha T, who is featured on the track and joined West onstage, was jubilant backstage as well.

"I'm happy," Steve Victor, a member of Pusha T's management team, beamed to MTV News.

When West finally made it to his room, he and his team roared their approval. "Shout out to the a--holes," they sang in unison as they closed the door to huddle for a personal moment.

Rihanna arrived and congratulated West backstage before making a beeline for the exit. And Florence and the Machine's lead singer, Florence Welch, ventured into 'Ye's dressing room and returned with a smile.

Drake spoke to MTV News, calling West's performance "dope"; he had also stopped to chat with the Chicago rapper in his VMA dressing room. He collects moments, the Toronto star said.

Immediately after 'Ye finished his performance at the Nokia Theatre, the crowd began chanting their approval: "Kanye, Kanye, Kanye!"

Lady Gaga's VMA Triumph, Behind The Scenes

LOS ANGELES — Moments after "Bad Romance" won the award for Video of the Year— and moments after she announced the title of her upcoming album, Born This Way — Lady Gaga walked off the Video Music Awards stage, arm-in-arm with Cher and tried very hard to fight back tears.

She succeeded (to varying degrees), and as she descended the staircase, Moonman in one hand, clutch in the other, Gaga didn't look like the biggest pop star on the planet. Instead, she looked humble, emotional and downright human (or, you know, as human as anyone wearing a dress made of meat could be).

It was a rare moment, for sure, one only a host of people — a few stagehands, a publicist or two, Cher and, well, MTV News — were privileged enough to see. And in a second, it was over. Gaga and Cher embraced, and she was whisked away, into a waiting elevator, to the dressing-room area beneath the Nokia Theatre.

And only down there did Gaga cut loose. Because as soon as the elevator doors parted, she strode down the carpeted hallway, and though she was still dabbing tears away from her eyes, she was also laughing now, too, almost as if she couldn't believe what had just happened: that she had won Video of the Year, that she had announced the title of her new album (and sung the hook from the presumptive title track) in front of an audience of millions, that freaking Cher had handed her the award. The 2010 VMAs were, in a lot of ways, her crowning moment. And she no doubt realized that, because a smile broke out across her face, and her army of stylists emerged from her dressing room and broke into a loud round of applause.

We followed as close as we could, but soon, the hallway was filled with Gaga's team. They stood on either side of the hallway, still clapping, whooping loudly. And Gaga cheered along with them, and then disappeared into her dressing room. Someone in her entourage shouted, "Big f---ing night," and they couldn't have been more right. The door closed behind them, two beefy security guards assumed their positions outside it, and Gaga's celebration began. You could hear it halfway down the hallway. And it was much deserved. It was a big f---ing night, indeed.

Chelsea Handler's Best VMA Moments

Host chases Justin Bieber, mocks Lady Gaga, gets visit from Lindsay Lohan.
By Kara Warner

From the self-deprecating teaser promos leading up to the show to her haphazard Lady Gaga impersonation to countless brazen one-liners and a skit involving spontaneous impregnation courtesy of a quick dip in the "Jersey Shore" hot tub, Chelsea Handler nailed her first-time VMA-hosting gig.

The sassy and outspoken E! talk-show host kicked things off with a pre-taped video, in which she was repeatedly smacked on the rear at random, as well as given a brutal coaching session from Lindsay Lohan.

Here's a rundown of our fave Chelsea Handler VMA moments:

Handler's Entrance/Monologue
Handler dropped down to the stage amidst a group of dancers, wearing a house on her head and a glittery outfit. Once in place to deliver her opening remarks, she told the crowd: "My plan was to stay sober the entire show, but, in an interesting twist, I am as high as a kite. That's the last time I do a prayer circle with Snoop Dogg."

Speaking about the fact that the last time a woman hosted the show was Roseanne Barr in 1994, Handler poked fun at some of the nominees' activities that particular year.

"Justin Timberlake was in the Mickey Mouse Club pretending he wasn't having sex with Britney Spears," Handler joked. "'The Situation' was just a classy way to refer to a teenage pregnancy. And Justin Bieber's mom had just given birth to her 401k plan."

Best New Artist 2010 Meet-and-Greet Sketches
In another pre-taped video segment, Handler hilariously introduced herself to the Best New Artist nominees, including Ke$ha and Justin Bieber. Handler admitted a bit of a crush on the "Tik Tok" singer, and made the clip with Bieber memorable by accusing the teen star of wearing a wig and chasing him down trying to grab it.

Hot-Tub Party With the "Jersey Shore" Cast
Handler showed she had no problem getting wet and wild. When the Situation hollered out to Handler from their famous hot tub and asked her to join in the fun, she actually walked over and climbed into the tub with JWoww, Snooki and Pauly D. Cut to commercial. When the show came back, Handler complained about feeling disgusting, and when she stood up to get out of the tub, had been spontaneously impregnated.

Kanye West Debuts New Song At VMAs

MC toasts 'scumbags' and 'douche bags' in new song from forthcoming album.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

As MTV Video Music Awards host Chelsea Handler put it, Kanye West was the "big, black elephant in the room" at this year's show. Following a long and well-documented history of awards-show rants, Kanye's return to the VMAs was a much-buzzed-about event.

And West knew it.

Instead of completely avoiding the controversy of last year's VMAs, Yeezy turned the event into fodder for his new track, which he debuted at the close of the show.

Funnyman Aziz Ansari sent up the "I'mma let you finish" debacle by yukking it up on a phone call from "Jersey Shore" castmember Ronnie but tossing to West's performance. The MC walked to the middle of the stage alone, sporting a fire-engine-red suit and gold chains, to a white MPC on a pedestal. West then punched out a few notes from his new song, the companion film for which viewers got a peek at during the pre-show, in the center of the black-and-white stage. A trio of dancers dashed onstage carrying beige scarves before West picked up the mic and began to spit.

"I always find something wrong/ You been putting up with my sh-- way too long," the MC rhymed, presumably referring to his various headline-hogging outbursts. "I'm so gifted at finding what I don't like the most."

Then 'Ye, who has weathered an outsize amount of criticism, dedicated the performance to his mother and let loose.

"Let's have a toast for the douche bags/ Let's have a toast for the a--holes/ Let's have a toast for scumbags," West sang. The MC then dished out advice to listeners who may be dealing with the aforementioned "bags." "I got a plan/ Run away as fast as you can."

West collaborator and Clipse MC Pusha T then hit the stage, channeling "Miami Vice"-cool in a blush-colored blazer as the trio of dancers posed on the side. "I'm just young, rich and tasteless," Push spit.

For many, the performance can be seen as a major turning point in 'Ye's career. The producer and lyricist has spent the past year grappling with the downward turn of his public persona and retreated from the spotlight. Yeezy returned with the epic track "Power," got back into the awards-show game at the BET Awards and previewed new music for tech tastemakers in intimate workplace performances. And of course, he joined Twitter, typing out an entertaining and candid stream of missives, including an apology to Taylor Swift (Swift, for her part, also referenced the mic-grabbing business in her own VMA performance).

After rhyming the chorus once again, switching up his vocals with a reverb effect, West closed the performance on a triumphant note. The crowd chanted "Kanye!" as a curtain of pyro rained down onto the stage.

Lady Gaga's Eclectic VMA Fashion Choices

Posted: 12 Sep 2010 11:11 PM PDT

From a design by Alexander McQueen to her ensemble made of meat, Gaga didn't fail to disappoint in the fashion department.
By Jocelyn Vena

Lady Gaga may have worn more outfits at the 2009 VMAs, but this year she wore a little dress made of meat. So, if the fashionistas of the world were wondering if Gaga could top herself in the fashion department, the answer appears to be yes.

For her first outfit of the night, when Gaga hit the VMA white carpet and already won two of her eight VMAs, she was wearing an Alexander McQueen outfit that consisted of taffeta, a feather Mohawk, a Renaissance art design and her famous "Bad Romance" McQueen lobster claw heels. And Gaga thanked McQueen in her acceptance speech for Best Female Video for his fashion contributions to the video.

Later on, Gaga donned a very large black dress complete with a cone-bra-like structure and a plastic Mohawk headband. The dress was difficult for her to walk in and required help from several burly men to make her way to the stage to accept her Moonman. She told the crowd, "I didn't really quite think all the wins through. This outfit is too heavy to walk in."

The dress (and bag and hat) that will certainly have everyone talking is her "meat" dress, which she wore when she won Video of the Year for "Bad Romance." The dress was an obvious homage to the PETA-criticized bikini Lady Gaga recently wore for Vogue Hommes Japan.

Earlier this week, celebrity stylist Robert Verdi predicted that Gaga would be in a fashion category all her own on VMA night, particularly after last year's costumes. "I think that when you have to compete with yourself, it's very difficult, and at some point you have to completely evolve and become something other than what people know you to be," he explained. "But this year, with 13 nominations, I think were gonna find Lady Gaga in competition with herself to come up with a whole array of costumes and changes that continue to reinforce this idea that she's a force to be reckoned with."

LOS ANGELES — You can't be the epitome of cool, and then land on your face or keister. Drake had a classy yet energetic and exciting performance Sunday night at the MTV Video Music Awards.

While walking the white carpet leading up to the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, Drake stopped to hug and talk to Justin Bieber, and then watched Nicki Minaj perform "Your Love," and "Check It Out" with will.i.am.

Drizzy revealed to MTV News the primary thought that would be going through his head before taking the VMA stage.

"Don't fall. That's the biggest thing, especially since I'm performing in dress shoes for the first time tonight," he said. "So 'don't fall' is my biggest thing. Other than that, man, it's just really about, the stage is so vast. You gotta come out, you gotta shine. You gotta own it and you gotta have fun. You gotta smile, you gotta make people at home feel that they are right there with you having fun. That's it, really.

Other than that, I wanna see other people be great. Hopefully take home an award. I worked really hard on that video," he said of "Find Your Love," which was up for Best Male Video, along with the Best Hip-Hop Video nominated "Forever."

Drake didn't win any Moonmen at the 2010 VMAs, but he won the crowd over with "Fancy." Everyone stood on their feet for Drake, Mary J. Blige and Swizz Beatz.

There have been a few murmurings and rumors around about whether or not Pusha T, one-half of hip-hop duo the Clipse, has in fact signed with Kanye West. And if folks weren't caught up in trying to figure out all the nuances in West's tongue-in-cheek, seemingly self-deprecating Video Music Awards performance, hip-hop blogs might have gone haywire when Pusha T came out and dropped a verse on the debut of West's single at Sunday night's show.

After his performance, Pusha T did confirm to MTV News in the RapFix post-show that he has officially signed with West's label, G.O.O.D. Music.

"I'm definitely signed with G.O.O.D. Music. I'm definitely doing my solo project through G.O.O.D. Music," the Virginia MC confirmed to MTV News' Sway. "The Clipse is definitely coming with a new Clipse project. We're definitely coming with the Re-Up Game project. The family is still here, man. It's just all about G.O.O.D. Music, straight up."

The confirmation puts an end to a bit of flirty back-and-forth the MC has had with the media with regard to whether or not he was officially linked up with West. Several weeks ago, he danced around the subject, saying, "I mean, you know, I been to Hawaii. Hawaii is a nice place. 'Good music' is made down there, ya know? So, yeah, I was there. I can't say too much about that. I think everybody's gonna be in for a big surprise. A very big surprise."

On Friday, West dropped the latest offering from his G.O.O.D. Friday movement, also called "G.O.O.D Friday." The song features Big Sean, Kid Cudi, Common, Charlie Wilson and ... Pusha T.

Taylor Swift's New Song Lyrics: What Do You Think?

Taylor Swift debuted a new song at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (September 12), and we want to know what you think of the yet-untitled track's personal lyrics. The song is said to be from Taylor's upcoming Speak Now album and will seemingly be titled "Innocent" or "Still an Innocent." Below are the lyrics as far as we could gather. If you know the missing words, help us out. And share your thoughts in the comments!

I guess you really did it this time
Left yourself in your war path
Lost your balance on a tightrope
Lost your mind trying to get it back

Wasn't it easier in your lunch box days?
Always a bigger bed to crawl into
Wasn't it beautiful when you believed in everything
And everybody believed in you?

It's all right, just wait and see
Your streaming lights are still bright to me oh
Who you are is not what you've been
You're still an innocent
You're still an innocent

There's some things you can't speak of
But tonight you'll leave it all again
You wouldn't be shattered on the floor now
If only you would sing only what you know ...

Wasn't it easy you're in your firefly-catching days
And everything out of reach, someone bigger brought down to you
Wasn't it beautiful running wild till you fell asleep
Before the monsters caught up to you?

It's all right, just wait and see
Your streaming lights are still bright to me oh
Who you are is not who you've been
You're still an innocent
It's OK, life is a tough crowd
32 and still growing up now
Who you are is not what you did
You're still an innocent

Time turns flames to ambers
You'll have new Septembers
Every one of us has messed up too
Mind change like the weather
I hope you remember today is never too late
To be brave (ohh)

It's all right, just wait and see
Your streaming lights are bright to me oh
Who you are is not where you've been
You're still an innocent
It's OK, life is a tough crowd
32 and still growing up now
Who you are is not what you did
You're still an innocent
Lost your balance on a tightrope
It's never too late to get it back

LOS ANGELES — Three cheers to Lady Gaga for following through with her promises! When Gaga picked up the biggest award at the Video Music Awards on Sunday night (September 12), Video of the Year for "Bad Romance," she came through on an earlier vow that she would reveal the title for her new album if she won the coveted award.

"I promised that if I won this, I would announce the name of my new album," Gaga said, a bit overcome with the emotion of it all. "It's called Born This Way." She then wowed the crowd even further by singing the chorus to the yet-unreleased title song.

Gaga has teased a few details of the album, calling it the "absolute greatest work" she's ever done.

"I'm so excited about it," Gaga said. "The message, the melodies, the direction, the meaning, what it will mean to my fans and what it will mean to me in my own life — it's utter liberation. I'm on the quest to create the anthem for my generation for the next decade, so that's what I've done."

The superstar also has yet to reveal what producers she's working with. "I will never tell, because as soon as I tell, everyone starts working with them," she said. "So all I can say is that nobody knows who they are. They're all new."

Regarding potential guest artists who may or may not appear on the project, when we caught up with Akon on the VMA white carpet just before the show, he revealed a few details about his studio time with the Lady, but not any specifics about the sound.

"Now that, that's something I need her to describe," Akon said. "If I describe it," he began, mulling over whether he should reveal anything, then reconsidered: "No, no, just let her describe it, trust me."

He went on to say that Gaga is an icon, plain and simple. "She's the biggest artist ever, next to MJ," Akon said. "And that is in three years. So you can imagine 10 years from now, 20 years from now. She's amazing, man."

Lady Gaga's 'Bad Romance' Wins Video Of The Year VMA

Lady Gaga has done it again. After dominating the night with 13 -- count 'em, 13! -- Video Music Awards noms, the seemingly overnight superstar took home the night's top prize, Video of the Year.

The award was presented by pop legend Cher, who reminded us that she went risqué back when some of the nominees were zygotes by wearing the same revealing outfit she donned in her "If I Could Turn Back Time" video 21 years ago. "I have shoes older than most of these nominees," she joked.

Accepting the freaky-fashion baton passed on by Cher, Gaga stood to accept her sixth statue of the night, wearing a thigh-length cloth version of her now-infamous meat outfit from the cover of Vogue Hommes Japan.

"I never thought I'd be asking Cher to hold my meat purse," she said, as she passed the flesh-colored pouch.

Directed by Francis Lawrence — who also did videos for Britney Spears, Will Smith and Aerosmith, as well as the films "I Am Legend" and "Constantine" — Gaga's "Bad Romance" video follows the alter ego of the woman born Stefani Germanotta into a surreal bath house where, depending on who you ask, supermodels drag her, kidnap her and sell her into sex slavery (or record-label bigwigs trap her, make her over into something she is not and force her to bed the music industry ... which she kills). And some people had the nerve to think it was just a song about being in love with your best guy friend.

Last year, Gaga was MTV's Best New Artist. This year, the New York native, who has sold more than 15 million albums and 51 million singles worldwide, beat out an eclectic group of musicians to claim this year's top prize. The other Video of the Year contenders were B.o.B's "Airplanes," Eminem's "Not Afraid," 30 Seconds to Mars' "Kings and Queens," Florence and the Machine's "Dog Days Are Over" and one of Gaga's own videos "Telephone" (the collabo she did with Beyoncé).

"I promised that if I won this, I would announce the name of my new album," Gaga said. "It's called Born This Way." She then sang the chorus to the yet-to-be-released title song.

Are you happy Gaga won the night's big prize? Let us know in the comments!

Rick Ross 'Salutes' Eminem After VMA Rehearsal

'Seeing him in person brought his rhymes that much more alive to me,' he says of Em's Saturday night run-through.

LOS ANGELES -- Rick Ross got the girl, but he wasn't afraid to give Eminem props.

The Bawse got a major look at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night (September 12), picking up host Chelsea Handler on his four-wheeler and driving out of the house. The night before the big show, Ross had the opportunity to play fly on the wall. He saw Eminem's rehearsal of "Not Afraid" and "Love the Way You Lie" a full day before fans laid their eyes on it.

"I actually had a chance to sit through the whole rehearsal yesterday, man, and got to watch Eminem rehearse and perform for the first time," Ross said on the white carpet. "You know, I gotta salute him. I gotta take my hat off. He's a dope lyricist. Actually, seeing him in person brought his rhymes that much more alive to me. I'm actually looking forward to seeing Eminem do his thing."

In the past, Ross has both challenged Slim Shady to a battle as well as said he wanted to collaborate with the Detroit rhyme icon. The Miami hitmaker did say that he and Em did not meet during the practice.

"Nah, not at all," Ross said when asked if they crossed paths. "I just played my position. Waited for my opportunity to rehearse. I wanted to take my hat off to commend a fellow MC."

What did you think of Em's performance? Let us know in the comments!

Nicki Minaj Has 'Swag' Like Lady Gaga, Choreographer Says

Laurie Ann Gibson says Minaj has 'the components that I saw about three years ago in Lady Gaga.'

Could Nicki Minaj be the next Lady Gaga? Laurie Ann Gibson certainly thinks so. Choreographer extraordinaire Gibson worked with Gaga to create the dance chemistry in Gaga's MTV Video Music Award-winning "Bad Romance" video and also put together Minaj's VMA pre-show dance routine for her song "Check It Out," with will.i.am.

Minaj, who was dressed in a pink-and-purple spacesuit and coiffed with a cotton-candy-colored wig, impressed her live audience with her dance moves. Accompanied by two dancers in matching outfits, Minaj stood stock-still like a futuristic superhero for the song's intro before wiggling her hips into the Gibson-choreographed moves.

Gibson, who MTV viewers will remember from Sean (Diddy) Combs' "Making the Band," told MTV News that Minaj has the makings of a superstar. "What I love about Nicki is she has the eye of the tiger and she is fearless," Gibson said. "These are the components that I saw about three years ago in Lady Gaga. I thought, 'This is going to be fantastic.' Her swag is amazing."

And just what was that robotic movement we saw Minaj do during her performance? "The idea is that we're Barbies landing from outer space," Gibson explained. "It's doll-like. It's amazing."

Gibson is working on a reality show with Ryan Seacrest that will feature her life as a creative director and choreographer. She says the show will appear on E! sometime in the near future, and it will follow her climb to become a female version of Combs, her mentor and collaborator.

Taylor Swift Sings To Kanye West, Maybe, At VMAs

Swift debuts ballad about someone who lost his path in life.

A year after Kanye West interrupted her Best Female Artist acceptance speech, Taylor Swift took the stage for a surprise performance without any interference at the 2010 Video Music Awards. But while the rapper didn't appear onstage during her set, he might have been the subject of her new song, which is from her upcoming album Speak Now.

In a simple white dress, the singer kept her performance of the new song inside the theater, as opposed to last year's New York subway production. Moments from last year's Kanye fiasco flashed on an old television screen before the camera panned to a darkly lit Swift. As the songstress played her steel guitar, she sang the story of an individual who has lost his path. "I guess you really did it this time/ Left yourself in your war path/ Lost your balance on a tight rope/ Lost your mind trying to get it back," she sang.

Swift slowly began to walk away from her old-country-house set and toward the center main stage as song lyrics began to flash on the background screens. A bright sunset emerged behind her, possibly revealing that the 20-year-old has put such events behind her.

While there's no confirmation as to whether the song is about West, phrases like "32 and still growing up now" seem to indicate as much.

It's no surprise that Swift's personal life seems to be the center of her new material. Earlier this year, she explained to fans that she was going to infuse her life experiences into her music, saying, "I've experienced a lot of things that I've been dying to write about and a lot of things that I wanted to say in the moment that I didn't," she told fans during a live chat about her album.

Rumors of a Swift performance have been circulating the Internet for days. Some reports even indicated that the singer was to be joined onstage by West, who recently apologized for last year's fiasco (again) and revealed that he's written a song for the pop star.

Swift was nominated for Best Female Video for her fairytale high school walkthrough clip "15," but lost the Moonman to Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance."

It shouldn't be too big of a surprise that Kanye West's closing Video Music Awards performance, during which he debuted his new song, got MTV viewers talking on Twitter. West easily topped MTV's Twitter Tracker, generating more than 4,300 tweets a minute and making it clear his appearance was one of the biggest moments of the night.

Even after the awards show ended, the Nokia Theatre crowd could be heard chanting West's name.

Gabezacchaeus tweeted, "thank you @kanyewest for making a song about me," referencing West's ode to all the jerks in the world.

"Kanye West = genius," JagneShaw added.

Jay_West_FSG tweeted, "I toast my fellow a--holes in the name of Kanye West," and JayClarkSOD kept it simple with "Kanye west is da sh-- #thatisall."

West took to his own Twitter account at noon on Sunday (September 12), writing, "I wish my Mom was here but I know she's looking down. I want to make her so happy today."

Mj_obsessed_xo responded to that post after Kanye's performance, tweeting, "You have my heart again . <3." And Joeenco tweeted back to West, "you def did."

But not everyone was loving West's closing performance.

ParkerOnline tweeted, "IM A HUGGGGGGGE KANYE WEST FAN BUT I CANT EVEN BACK HIM ON THAT PERFORMANCE.. I JUST WASTED 4MINS OF MY LIFE."

Cpatterson33 said, "Kanye West is just terrible," while Helene123 said, "Hmm, alrighty then!!! Kanye, what the hell was that???"

Then there were the Twitter followers who called West out on his choice of outfit, a bright red with matching shoes.

Tonyacrys tweeted, "Kanye's suit was so red I felt the need to dim the tv or adjust the color on my tv. I was like damn Rudolph why your suit so bright?"

Justin Bieber Wins Best New Artist VMA

Newbie caps off a big year with a Moonman for smash video 'Baby.'

This year, a slew of music newbies pumped out catchy hits and worked a signature style, be it side-swept bangs or cartoonish wigs. With so many choices, it's a good thing we left the business of picking this year's 2010 MTV Video Music Awards Best New Artist up to the fans at home. And to no one's surprise, they chose Justin Bieber.

The VMA rookie took home the Moonman for the smash clip "Baby." The video was up against some chart-topping competition, as Jason Derülo ("In My Head"), Ke$ha ("Tik Tok"), Nicki Minaj ("Massive Attack") and Broken Bells ("The Ghost Inside") were all up for hardware.

"Wow," the teen sensation gasped after making his way to the stage. Bieber said that as a young kid from Canada, he was surprised by the honor, saying, "This means a lot to me." The teen star shouted out music industry execs, showed respect to his "big bro" ("Thank you to Usher for being my mentor") and, of course, his fans: "Thank you to everybody here."

The win was another highlight of a big night for the teen superstar and his army of Beliebers. Bieber hit the stage early in the night for a throwback-themed rendition of his hits "Baby" and "Somebody to Love," which included his own amped-up drum solo.

Bieber, who presented last year, was excited to take his VMA experience to the next level and hit the stage at this year's festivities.

"I'm excited to be performing at the VMAs. It is all still unbelievable, because last year I went for the first time and no one knew who I was," Bieber said recently. "Just really shows that dreams can come true and what incredible, dedicated fans I have. I'm a lucky guy and grateful. Now I just want to get on that stage, have some fun in front of my heroes, because at the end of the day I'm still a kid and still a fan."

B.o.B, Hayley Williams Perform Rousing 'Airplanes' At VMAs

They may have met for the first time on Saturday, but B.o.B and Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams had real chemistry when they performed their hit "Airplanes" at Sunday's Video Music Awards.

Joined by Bruno Mars, B.o.B and Williams performed a medley that also included "Nothin' on You" and Paramore's "Only Exception" at the 2010.

Beginning with this spring's anthem "Nothin' on You," Mars crooned his way through the track's chorus until an energetic B.o.B appeared on the other side of the Nokia Theatre stage. "Give it up to my homie, B.o.B," Mars screamed.

After bringing the song to a pause, B.o.B transitioned into his other 2010 smash, "Airplanes." Decked out in a white ensemble, Williams walked through a misty entrance as she met the MC at center stage.

"Can we pretend that airplanes/ In the night sky, are like shooting stars?/ I could really use a wish right now/ Wish right now, wish right now," she belted.

The duo sang smiling and dancing slightly side by side, as a lightning backdrop flickered in the background. With the song coming to an end, Williams walked to the back of the stage as "Only Exception" began to play. Joined by her band, the frontwoman grabbed a mic. As she sang the track, a sea of golden light bulbs were suspended above their heads.

During rehearsals for the big performance on Saturday, MTV News asked B.o.B what fans could expect from his and Hayley's VMA set. "I think just the fact that me and her are performing on the stage at the same [event] is gonna be spectacular," he told us.

B.o.B and Williams were nominated for Best Collaboration Video for "Airplanes," but lost out to Lady Gaga's "Telephone," featuring Beyoncé.

NBA All-Star Ron Artest Gives VMA Ticket Away To His Daughter

Right outside Kanye West's dressing room -- before his big performance at Sunday night's (September 12) Video Music Awards -- NBA All-Star and World Champion Los Angeles Lakers forward Ron Artest was sitting down on the floor with his arms on his knees.

When asked why he wasn't sitting in a seat, Ron smiled a huge grin. "I gave my ticket to my daughter," he told MTV News backstage. "She wanted to see the show. I didn't get to see it. I let her go. It's all about her."

While the VMAs were held at the Nokia Theatre, right next door to the Lakers' home, the Staples Center, Ron Ron said he wasn't interested in calling in any special favors. "Nah man, I'm good," he laughed.

Ron didn't get to see any of the show and was very interested in how the proceedings were turning out. There was one MC in particular he wanted to know about.

"Did Rick Ross perform?" Artest asked. When told that the Bawse didn't rock the mic but instead had a special moment with VMA host Chelsea Handler, Ron frowned.

"He didn't do 'B.M.F.'? Aw, man!" he protested. "They should have let him do that. He would have shut it down. 'I think I'm Big Meech, Larry Hoover,' " Artest rapped, quoting Ross' "Blowin' Money Fast" lyrics.

Ron did get a chance to see some of the show. He rolled with the G.O.O.D. Music crew to the house to see Kanye West and Pusha T debut "Runaway." Ron stood with Big Sean and some of 'Ye's crew as the Louis Vuitton Don rocked the night.

In a move that surprised, well, no one, voters went goo-goo for Lady Gaga, crowning her the queen of MTV's 27th Annual Video Music Awards. Gaga was nominated for 13 Moonmen but she took home only eight (largely because she was up against herself in a few categories), including statues for the heavy-hitter categories of Video of the Year, Best Pop Video and Best Female Video. The artist who opened the show, Eminem, came in a distant second with hardware for Best Hip Hop Video and Best Male Video.

Unfortunately, Em had to leave the ceremony to catch a red eye to New York so he missed out on his own awards. Did you miss any of the VMA action? Just in case, here's a list of the night's big winners.
