People are still talking about Nicki Minaj's colorful performance at the VMA pre-show with special guest Will.I.Am, and she recognizes what a big milestone it was in her young career.

"That was an amazing look," Nicki told MTV News right after the main show Sunday night. "I'm so thankful to have that opportunity. As an underground female rapper, that's the biggest accomplishment so far."

Nicki also threw kudos to her Young Money family member (and Twitter ex-husband) Drake. "Our divorce isn't finalized yet," Nicki joked before assessing Drake's performance of "Fancy" with Mary J. Blige and Swizz Beatz. "No, he was amazing. He's always spot-on. I thought Mary sounded like honey. Honey! Amazing. And, of course, my baby Swizz Beatz was up there. I loved it."

The day after the show, Nicki was back in her hometown of New York performing as part of Jay-Z and Eminem's Home and Home concert series. Minaj came out with Jiggaman and Kanye West for "Monster."

"I've just been blessed to be on a song with two living legends," Nicki told DJ Drama recently on his Gangsta Grillz radio program. "In my book, Jay and Kanye are icons, and I never in a billion years would have thought I would be on a song with one of them, let alone both of them. I'm happy people think I murdered the record. It just feels exciting to be a part of that collab. Seriously."

Minaj's VMA pre-show performance won over some new fans as well as her peers.

"I think Nicki Minaj is the truth," Katy Perry said of Minaj. "I think she is amazing, and I love her sense of style. I love her beautiful figure. It's hot."

"What I love about Nicki is she has the eye of the tiger and she is fearless," Minaj choreographer Laurie Ann Gibson said. "These are the components that I saw about three years ago in Lady Gaga. I thought, 'This is going to be fantastic.' Her swag is amazing."

Lindsay Lohan Reportedly Fails Drug Test

Actress could face 30 days in jail.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

After wrapping up jail and rehab stints, Lindsay Lohan might not be completely in the clear.

The troubled starlet has reportedly failed a drug test, according to TMZ. Although the actress was released from jail early, only serving 13 days of her 90-day sentence, before staying in rehab for 23 days, Lohan was held to several conditions after her release.

Lohan was ordered to submit to random twice-weekly drug and alcohol tests in addition to attending a 12-step program, participate in at least four psychotherapy sessions a week and attend behavior therapy sessions twice a week. If she fails a drug and alcohol test, she is required to return to jail for 30 days.

Despite her recent legal drama, Lohan has maintained that she does not have debilitating issues with drugs and alcohol. The actress was ordered to wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet in May after missing a mandatory court hearing, which went off at an MTV Movie Awards afterparty. The alarm prompted a California judge to issue a warrant for Lohan's arrest and double her bail, although Lohan's lawyer later insisted her client tested negative for alcohol.

In a pre-jail interview with Vanity Fair, the actress insisted she wasn't struggling with addiction.

"If I were the alcoholic everyone says I am, then putting a [SCRAM] bracelet on would have ended me up in detox, in the emergency room, because I would have had to come down from all the things that people say I'm taking and my father says I'm taking — so that says something, because I was fine," Lohan said.

"I think everyone has their own addictions and hopefully learns how to get past them," Lohan said, insisting that most of her issues stem from her strained relationship with her father. "I think my biggest focus for myself is learning how to continue to get through the trauma that my father has caused in my life."

Russell Brand was reportedly arrested after getting involved in a physical altercation with a member of the paparazzi. People magazine reports that the "Get Him to the Greek" star got into a "tussle" with a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport and the paparazzo then bizarrely took it upon himself to place the actor under arrest.

Airport police were called to the scene after a "report of a battery involving a celebrity and a commercial photographer," and the alleged victim made a "private person's arrest," according to a police statement. Brand was then interviewed by airport police and taken into custody for suspected battery, Us Weekly reports. He and fiancée Katy Perry did not board their scheduled flight to Las Vegas. The star will be booked at the LAPD Pacific division, a spokesperson told the magazine.

At press time, Brand's camp had yet to issue a statement on the matter.

Brand had been arrested 11 times before Friday's incident, including for public nudity at anti-globalization protests in 2001. In his best-selling memoir, "My Booky Wook: A Memoir of Sex, Drugs and Stand-Up," Brand recounted a slew of sordid tales, including his addiction to sex and heroin. However, in all his prior indiscretions — and there are many — Brand has not been known to act out with any sort of physical violence.

More recently, the two-time MTV Video Music Awards host has been in the headlines for his engagement to Perry. The couple met at the 2009 VMAs and were engaged in January.

T.I.'s Arrest Companion Identified As Convicted Felon

Tip may have further violated probation by driving with Cortez 'C-Rod' Thomas, who was also in on rapper's 2007 attempt to purchase illegal firearms.

T.I. might be in more trouble with the law than originally believed.

According to reports, T.I. was accompanied by a convicted felon when he was pulled over and arrested in Los Angeles on September 1. It's a strict no-no for convicted felons — Tip is also a felon — to associate with each other.

Now, documents uncovered by TheSmokingGun.com reveal that the felon was reportedly Cortez "C-Rod" Thomas, the man who allegedly helped facilitate T.I.'s attempted illegal firearm purchase in October 2007, which led to the Atlanta MC's most recent prison stint and subsequent probation.

Thomas, according to records, allegedly assisted T.I. (born Clifford Harris) by transferring a wealth of cash to the rapper's bodyguard. The bodyguard was later set up by federal officials and agreed to participate in a sting against the "Takers" star.

Thomas was never charged in the incident, but he is named and information regarding his past is included in material related to T.I.'s original case. Thomas' rap sheet includes drug charges and claims of physical intimidation; earlier this year, he was convicted on felony drugs and weapon charges and received 15 years probation.

The new information adds to the case being mounted against T.I. In addition to the controlled substances found in his car — later identified as Ecstasy, marijuana — the rapper may have also had the opiate codeine in his system, according to TMZ.

The Atlanta judge who oversaw T.I.'s gun case and structured an experimental plea deal with him has ordered the rapper to appear in court to explain his actions and make a case for why his behavior doesn't violate the terms of his probation.

"We are very disappointed in Mr. Harris' recent conduct," United States Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said in an e-mail to MTV News on Friday (September 17). "We will make our sentencing recommendation at the revocation hearing."

A hearing date for T.I. had not been scheduled at press time.

Nelly And Kelly Rowland 'Extend The Story' Of 'Dilemma' With 'Gone'

The last time Nelly and Kelly Rowland collaborated, they scored a pop smash with their 2002 hit "Dilemma," which was named one of the most popular songs of the decade by Billboard.

Now, eight years later, the duo are reuniting to give it another go, but to hear Nelly explain it, the forthcoming track "Gone" isn't a sequel to "Dilemma." Rather, the song, from Nelly's upcoming release 5.0, is an "update."

"I don't want to say it's a sequel. I don't want to diminish anything with 'Dilemma' or have an expectation you can't live up to when you do that," Nelly told MTV News. "When you do that type of thing, there's people who are already, 'I don't wanna hear it. It's supposed to be "Dilemma." ' You already being negative [before] pushing the button!

"It's one of those things where we did reconnect," he continued. "Our chemistry has already proven to be good, whether it was onstage or in the studio. It was something that we wanted to reconnect with. It was produced by Jim Jonsin. ... It's a cool joint. I think people will get it. It can never be 'Dilemma,' but we wanted to extend the story. It's continuing the story a little bit more, seeing her again."

Before "Gone" hits the airwaves, however, Nelly is riding high off the success of "Just a Dream" cracking the top 10 on the Hot 100 chart. The record, also produced by Jonsin, is Nelly's return to the charts in the wake of his commercially disappointing last album, 2008's Brass Knuckles. He credited his fans with the song's success.

"It's always great when your fans come out and support [you] anytime in your career," he said about the achievement. "But definitely after 10 years, and when you haven't been quite on the scene as much as your fans would like you to, but when they do get a glimpse of you and they feel good, it also makes you feel good."

Kid Cudi Admits Past Cocaine Use

'I wasn't prepared for a '60 Minutes' interview every time,' Cudi tells Complex of using drugs to cope with fame.
By Steven Roberts

Kid Cudi's Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager remains one of this year's most anticipated albums. But Cudi recently made headlines for other reasons, when he was arrested in June on charges of felony criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance. Cudi opens up about his drug use, the arrest and more in a new magazine cover story.

"People wanted to know a lot about my personal life and I wasn't prepared for a '60 Minutes' interview every time," Cudi told Complex. "Doing bumps [of cocaine], I was able to get through the day, but then I would smoke weed to calm me down — it was the only way I could get through the day without people noticing I was doing it."

Cudi has made no secret about his love of marijuana, but the rapper explained in the magazine's October/November issue that he started using cocaine to help him get through interviews. While he claims he never thought it was a problem, he admitted his coke use was like "high-fiving death a couple of times." It took a lot for him to open up about the substance abuse on his upcoming new album, but he wanted to be candid with fans.

"I don't feel like I need to explain myself to anyone besides the fans. My fans don't believe sh-- until they hear me say it, and those are true Kid Cudi fans. I want them to know the story."

Cudi revealed that he had a revelation as he was walked out of court.

"It was really just like, 'Man, you got it f---ing going on, and you were about to piss it all away for some bullsh--.' Everywhere I go, people be looking at me like I'm some type of f---ing crackhead now. Nobody wants to have their f---ing name attached to a maniac, to a f----up, so everyone distances themselves."

Cudi also credited the birth of his daughter with helping him to turn things around. "She's my best friend and she doesn't even know it. That's why I always told myself I'm going to make these songs for my kids, so they can follow along and know my story, if something was ever to happen to me."

The follow-up to Cudi's debut will be a darker effort because it reflects where his life was at the time. When MTV News caught up with Cudi on the VMA white carpet, he talked a little more about what he set out to do on Mr. Rager.

"With Mr. Rager, I kind of wanted to try something different with the writing this time," Cudi said. "It's just me kind of telling my story, but in a different format, in a different way, just writing it in a poetic manner. I wanted to do more poetic raps, whether it's just rhymes or stuff like that or sometimes just repeating things just to get certain lines across, just to get people thinking."

Rick Ross Stands By T.I., Talks New Collabos

'Regardless of what it is, you don't turn your back on him,' Ross says of Tip's legal issues.
By Shaheem Reid

No matter what, Rick Ross said he's going to stand by his friend T.I. The King of the South is in some serious trouble and could have his probation revoked after he and his wife were arrested earlier this month on drug charges.

"I think just being firm and being men of our word is what that's about at the end of the day," Ross said last week in L.A. during VMA weekend about supporting Tip. "Once you become an ally and a partner, you anticipate the ups and the downs. You gotta be a soldier. The shoe is gonna be on the other foot, either way it goes, when you getting money in the streets, period. Just being G's, man. It is what it is, man. A lot of times, these situations be blown out of proportion and made into a lot bigger than what they are.

"As long as the real G's and the leaders set the example of 'This is what you do when your brother gets into trouble,' " Ross added. "Regardless of what it is, you don't turn your back on him; you ride with him. ... You gotta stick to the script. When situations come, you stay firm. If that's your homie, that's your homie."

Several years ago, before Ross and Tip met, Ricky Rozay publicly denounced Tip over a misunderstanding. Since then, however, all ill will has been quashed between the two, and not only have they become cool, they have worked together several times on other artists' tracks. This year, Ross pulled Tip in on his Teflon Don album via "Maybach Music III." Tip called on Ross for a track on the upcoming King Uncaged album, "Pledge Allegiance to the Swag."

Ross said "Pledge" and two other new songs were recorded with Tip while the two were in Miami.

"I'mma be honest: That was the first time me and the homie actually got in the studio and I saw him work his magic," Ross recalled. "To be honest, I was blown away by the homie. He came by the spot. He was like, 'I'm in Miami. I'm in a good mood, big homie.' He had just tied his knot. Congratulations to him and Tiny. He was like, 'I'm swinging through the city.' I was like, 'Come through. I'm over at my spot. The Swisher Suite. Let's get it in.' The homie came through, walked in. I had the beat on. Your man Tip, 10 minutes tops, 'Let's record.' The homie laid his verse. We played some more music. Another 10 minutes, laid another verse. So he actually did two features for me. I did his feature. We got it all done in a matter of time. Left, went to the club after that."

'Catfish' Subject Is A 'Bit More Wary' When It Comes To The Web

Nev Schulman now understands where taking risks 'can lead when it comes to the Internet.'
By Kara Warner

The much-buzzed-about little indie that could, "Catfish," is finally in theaters. Despite the unusual approach Universal took with the marketing campaign — i.e., setting up the Sundance darling as a genre or horror-like film — it is a must-see movie with a very timely and unique message.

The heavily hyped documentary revolves around NYC-based photographer Nev Schulman and a series of curious events that occur when he begins an online friendship with an 8-year-old girl and a romantic relationship with her older sister.

When MTV News caught up with the filmmakers, Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, they addressed the persistent "is it real?" debate. A few weeks later, we had the opportunity to sit down with all three of the "Catfish" guys: the filmmakers and the movie's star/subject, Nev Schulman.

Because the film exposes a very real and, at times, emotional real-life experience related to the realm of online relationships and social networking, we asked Nev if he has since changed his virtual presence or approach (without revealing any spoilers, of course).

"Through all of this, basically, I'm trying to stay true to my regular behavior," Schulman said. "I like to take risks, putting myself out there, saying yes to things. I have certainly a new appreciation for where that can lead when it comes to the Internet," he explained. "So when it comes to meeting new people online, I'm definitely a little bit more wary now as far as getting to know them too personally before I actually meet with them in person, but as far as using the Internet and Facebook and Twitter and YouTube and having accounts on all these social-networking websites, I think it's great. I think that there's a lot of good that can come from it."

Nev Schulman added that until you really know someone, it's best to err on the private side of things. At least in the beginning of a virtual relationship — no matter if it's platonic or romantic.

"Basically, what it comes down to is, keep it private, because you can always share with people once you're ready to, but there's no reason to willy-nilly share everything about yourself with anybody."

Drake Calls T.I.'s Legal Issues An 'Unfortunate Situation'

There was one conspicuously absent person Sunday night during Drake's performance of "Fancy" at the VMAs. Drizzy had special guests Swizz Beatz and Mary J. Blige join him onstage, but the other person who performs on the album version of he record, T.I., was not there. Tip has been dealing with matters more important than entertainment lately.

T.I. was arrested for alleged drug possession in Los Angeles at the beginning of this month, and there is a chance that his probation could be revoked.

While rehearsing for "Fancy" at the VMAs, Drake sat down and reflected on his friend's circumstances.

"I care about Tip a lot," Drake said. "He's held me down since the beginning. He's always been extremely nice to me and embraced me. Before he went to prison, to this day, I still talk about the conversation he had with me about the game and trying to stay focused.

"It hurt me the other day that somehow he found himself again in that kind of predicament. Especially with [the success of the movie] they just had out ['Takers']. It's a personal thing. I'm not really here to say things about another man. Tip is a very smart man. I just think that, a part of me wishes he realized the power in the movement he has and what a legend he is and not get in trouble anymore. I just wish that wouldn't happen. The man that he is, the trouble he gets into doesn't reflect the person he is. He's just a great individual. Yeah, it's an unfortunate situation," Drake continued.

What do you think about Drake's thoughts on T.I.? Let us know in the comments.

'It's not necessarily an homage to him,' she says of the ink that reminds her of 'Passion Play' co-star.

Anyone familiar with the ever-changing Internet news cycle should know to tread carefully where celebrity stories are concerned, particularly those that involve engaged actresses falling in love with co-stars and expressing that emotion via tattoos.

Case in point, a chat we had with Megan Fox back in June, wherein the easy-on-the-eyes actress revealed to MTV News that she feels a special bond with her "Passion Play" co-star Mickey Rourke — so much so that she got inked in his honor.

"I actually got a tattoo that is sort of in honor of him," she told us at the time. "It's on my ribs. I don't know if it's been photographed yet, but it'll come out eventually, I'm sure. I just love him very much and think he's very special."

Incredibly enough, that little blurb was taken out of context by several outlets of the tabloid variety. So when we ran into Fox again recently, she helped clarify the rumor-gone-wild.

"Maybe it was your fault," Fox said at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she was promoting "Passion Play." "But it turned into, even though I was in love with [husband] Brian [Austin Green], it turned into that I was secretly in love with Mickey Rourke and got a tattoo to release the angst," she said. "It was not about that. I have a tattoo that is a Nietzsche quote that sort of basically is about marching to the beat of your own drummer and not being afraid to do that. I was saying that it reminds me of Mickey, of course, because he clearly is not marching to anyone else's drummer, drumbeat, and that's all. It's not necessarily an homage to him."

And there you have it, Megan Fox fans: ink explained.

Young Money's Shanell Says Street Single Is For 'Boss' Chicks

'The way I write my love songs comes out different,' R&B upstart says of penning Nicki Minaj-assisted 'Cupid's Got a Gun.'
By Jayson Rodriguez

Young Money's Shanell has a voice as sweet as red velvet cake, but the singer/songwriter isn't your average R&B pop tart. On her new single "Cupid's Got a Gun" featuring Nicki Minaj, she's as sharp with her lyrics as her boss Lil Wayne is with his rhymes. Shanell says the song represents the "tough skin" type of girls.

"Me and my homegirl Mika Means were actually in the studio and we were coming up with stuff and we started that song, "Cupid's Got a Gun,' " Shanell told MTV News this week. "It's a love song, but it's a love song told in a different way. I'm not really a mushy person, so I express my emotions, it's like, instead of saying I love you, it's I f---ing love you. So the way I write my love songs comes out different. And it's this energy that I felt that it needed, 'cause I consider myself a boss type of chick and I got a tough skin. I thought Nicki would be perfect to be on this record to exemplify that boss type of energy. I played it for her and she jumped right on it."

The song is the first effort from her forthcoming debut album. According to Shanell, "Cupid's Got a Gun" wasn't slated to be the first single but after it leaked to the Web earlier this month it drew a strong response. As a result, she and her team are prepping to work the song as a street single to tease the upcoming LP. She hopes to drop that full-length for the masses next summer. Meanwhile, she has her hand in other projects like her gig as the face of clothing line Married to the Mob's fall collection.

The singer has also written a video treatment for "Cupid's" that she described as a combination of "Smooth Criminal" and the movies "Sin City" and "Kill Bill."

"As a writer, there's a picture in my head and I'm basically writing a story to the pictures that flash in my head," Shanell explained. "So I always had the visual for the video in my head. But once we got Nicki on it, I thought, Oh, [those three as a mix would work]. I've written it out and I'm looking for a director now."

So what do a foulmouthed, washed-up Major Leaguer and a slightly macabre, menacing rocker have in common? Nothing, really. And yet, when admitted "Eastbound and Down" superfan Marilyn Manson strolled down the Astroturf-lined green carpet at HBO's premiere for the show's second season Thursday, he seemed right at home.

When MTV News caught up with the "Beautiful People" singer, we asked him to deliver a few of his favorite Kenny Powers quotes.

"It would be really hard to pick because there are so many," Manson said. "I would say maybe my favorite ... 'With every set of t--s comes a gaping hole of need that even Kenny Powers can fill.' That might be my favorite. Just basic. Or, 'Can I do you from behind with a "Scream" mask?' The mask from 'Scream.' Because I did that, personally, myself," Manson admitted or joked, we couldn't quite tell.

Regarding a possible Manson cameo on the show, the rocker said he just wants to play the role of Powers' awkward sidekick Stevie Janowski (played by actor Steve Little).

"My cameo would be playing ... Stevie Janowski, that would be perfect."

We suggested he could potentially play his brother.

"No, just playing him. I want to play him," Manson insisted. "That's it. It's a challenge. I can do whatever I want. Don't tell me what not to do," he said with a slight smile, ending the conversation with another patented Powers quote.

Manson's "Eastbound and Down" obsession was recently revealed in a story featured in Interview magazine.

"Whenever I see Manson, he's repeating entire chunks of dialogue and dressed like Kenny," Adam Bhala Lough, who is directing Manson in the movie "Splatter Sisters," revealed. "He just walks around dressed like this and f---s with people on the street. If a waiter or valet tells him, 'Have a nice day,' he'll respond, 'Don't tell me what to do.' Stuff like that. He's even dressed like this when I'm at his house watching Béatrice Dalle films and 'Hoarders.' "

My Chemical Romance Return With <i>Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys</i>

Black Parade producer Rob Cavallo has re-teamed with MCR for upcoming LP.

It's been nearly three years in the making, and during that time, it's been called a "no-concept" record, a down-and-dirty punk album, a "love letter to rock and roll" and, most recently, a fast-and-loose celebration of the Jersey Shore and "that era when heavy metal was yet to become hair rock."

But now we actually know what to call My Chemical Romance's fourth album: Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.

That's according to MCR's label, Reprise Records, which confirmed the title to MTV News on Friday afternoon (September 17), putting to end a day of solid speculation that started when U.K. retailer HMV accidentally listed the album title and a tentative release date on its website (a posting that has since been corrected).

Reprise would not confirm whether Danger Days will be hitting stores November 22 — or the 23rd here in the U.S. — as the HMV site states, nor would Reprise confirm the title of the first single from the album. Several sites have reported that it will be called "Bulletproof Heart" and would head to radio September 28.

In recent days, MCR seem to have begun ramping up the promotion for, well, something, posting artwork supposedly intended to be the album cover — and a mysterious "Transmissions" page — on their website.

Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys is the follow-up to My Chem's ultra-ambitious 2006 effort The Black Parade and will re-team the band with producer Rob Cavallo (who helmed the sessions for Parade too), according to Reprise. Initially, My Chem were working with producer Brendan O'Brien on the new album, but it's not clear whether any of those earlier songs will end up on Danger Days, and Reprise did not respond to MTV News' request for comment on that matter.

What do you think of MCR's new album title? Let us know in the comments!

Mary J. Blige Says New Album Will Sound Like '<i>My Life</i> 2011'

Mary J. Blige has switched it up in recent years, collaborating with hot young voices like Drake and Trey Songz and even trying her hand at rapping. The nine-time Grammy winner has pretty much conquered the R&B game, so it's fitting that her next effort will take listeners back to some of the classic Mary sounds that started it all.

"Swizz [Beatz] and I, [we're] in the studio cooking up something real nice," Blige told MTV News backstage at the VMAs. The songbird, who hit the stage on Sunday with Swizzy and Drizzy for "Fancy," revealed that she and the super-producer are crafting sonic heat similar to her first two studio albums but plan to update the vintage Blige sound. "[It will be] more like [What's the 411?], My Life 2011, '12. It's headed [in] that direction but in a new [way]. Not what it used to be."

Blige dished that the follow-up to 2009's Stronger With Each Tear may come with some club joints but didn't promise any of the house-music-inspired rhythms that have popped up in hits like "OMG" and "Closer" from fellow R&B vets Usher and Ne-Yo.

"Right now, it's going in the Mary direction, which is R&B and hip-hop and soul," Blige said. "If it goes into the club direction, it will probably be more soulful than futuristic."

Blige has time to decide whether some speaker-rattling joints will make her next album as she's set to kick off another major undertaking before her upcoming LP drops. The songstress will rock a headlining tour this fall and has recruited budding soul stars Jazmine Sullivan and Miguel for the trek, which kicks off October 2 in Mobile, Alabama. R&B vet El DeBarge is slated to appear on certain dates.

Kid Rock's Waffle House Brawl Results In $40,000 Payout

On Friday (September 17), a jury awarded $40,000 to the man who sued Kid Rock after the star and his entourage sparked a brawl in 2007, according to The Associated Press.

The sum was awarded to Harlen Akins, who initially sought $6,000 in medical fees and an unspecified amount of punitive damages. Punitive damages were not awarded, but Akins will receive $40,000 in compensatory damages. Rock will not shoulder the entire amount and is only responsible for 15 percent. Guitarist Jason Krause will pay the majority of the sum, 70 percent, because he was found to have lobbed the first punch. Rock's personal assistant James Murphy will dole out 10 percent, and his executive assistant Brian Lang will pay 5 percent.

Rock (born Robert James Ritchie) and his crew were sued by Akins following a scuffle at an Atlanta-area Waffle House three years ago. The fight apparently broke out after Akins exchanged words with a woman accompanying Rock's entourage. The rocker testified Thursday that he never physically assaulted Akins but did rail at him. "I gave it to him verbally. I said, 'Shut your mouth, man,' " Rock said.

The star insisted Akins insulted the entourage member while Akins maintained that he was speaking to the woman about text messages and phone calls he received from her. "I still don't even know what did I say to him to start this jumping on me," Akins said in court. Both Rock and Akins have admitted to being intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Akins' lawyer said he and his client were pleased with the verdict. "We feel vindicated and we are very satisfied," Eric Hertz said.

Rock's lawyer insisted the case was all about securing a major windfall from the multiplatinum-selling rapper. "As far as we were concerned, it was just about money," said William Horton, who represented Rock and his entourage.

Rock was previously sentenced to a year of probation and fined $1,000 in 2008 for his involvement in the restaurant clash.

Edward Norton Calls Marvel's 'Avengers' Comments 'Disingenuous'

'My life's way too good on too many levels to be over-intense about things like that,' he tells MTV News.

A war of words broke out in July between Edward Norton and Marvel production chief Kevin Feige after it became clear the actor wouldn't reprise his Hulk role in the superhero all-star flick "The Avengers."

Feige accused Norton of lacking sufficient "creativity and collaborative spirit," while Norton took the high road, saying he was simply "appreciative of the outpouring of support from fans of the Hulk and the Avengers."

Months later, while promoting "Stone" at the Toronto Film Festival, Norton went into greater detail about his dust-up with Marvel. Feige's accusations clearly still irk him, but the actor once again strove to avoid engaging in overly negative words.

"The thing that was disingenuous about some of the stuff that had gone on is it was a very professional and very respectful business situation," he told MTV News. "We really couldn't work it out on a business level, and I know that's disappointing to some people, but it's nobody's fault. I don't have any disrespect for anybody's decisions in the business framework. You do what you feel you need to do on both sides, and that's totally fine.

"I have no idea why anybody tried to characterize it as anything other than that kind of a decision, which is absolutely what it was," added Norton, who took over the Hulk role in 2008 following Eric Bana's 2003 turn.

Yet Feige publicly stated the opposite in July, weeks before Marvel announced that Mark Ruffalo would be next in line to play Hulk for the planned 2012 "Avengers" film. "Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members," Feige said at the time.

Taking such behind-the-scenes negotiations public was a surprisingly in-your-face move on Marvel's part, but calling Feige's comments "disingenuous" was as confrontational as Norton would let himself become. "My life's way too good on too many levels to be over-intense about things like that," he said.

"I didn't want to be negative about anything," he said earlier in our interview. "I had a great time doing that. I was very happy to be part of it all. People's response to that film was great. That's everything you want. If you're going to do one of those, and be in those long traditions of those things we all grew up in, you don't want to be in one of the bad ones. So I'm really happy people had a good thing with that."

Blake Lively Compares 'The Town' And 'Green Lantern'

"Gossip Girl" star Blake Lively has been expanding on her Upper East Side roots of late. She landed the coveted role of Carol Ferris opposite Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan in "The Green Lantern" and can be seen holding her own with Ben Affleck and Jeremy Renner in this week's "The Town."

When MTV News caught up with the leading lady recently, we asked her how the effects work and acting requirements differed between the two very different roles.

"With all the special effects, you're in a big soundstage with blue walls and the world you're acting opposite will be created months after you're finished shooting," Lively said of her work on "Lantern." "So to watch that will be a very different experience, because I don't know half of what I'm going to see. It's so exciting, seeing all the visual arts and all the amazing effects they're creating and the main characters they're creating. I cannot wait to see it, because that's one of the most important elements in our story."

Regarding "The Town," Lively said there's really no comparison because there's no CGI in the movie.

"Everything you're seeing, we were doing in the moment," she explained. "You're just playing off of each other, a lot of reacting and a lot of improv. It was a very different experience, but both [movies] I just treasure so much. To get to do a role like this that is so dark and so different and so broken and then to go be in a superhero movie opposite such amazing actors and an incredible director, and not just be the damsel in distress, be a fighter pilot, be his boss at the company, to play women with strengths are the characters I'm most attracted to."

But will moviegoers — specifically the always-knowledgeable fans of the "Lantern" source material — get to see any signs of Ferris' eventual villainy in the film? "No, not yet," Lively said. "Well, I mean, there are always winks and homages to certain things in the comics for the fans, but I don't think you know yet how evil she turns."

Keanu Reeves Is 'Trying' To Make 'Bill And Ted' Sequel

'To me, I'd love to play the role. I'd love to work with Alex and Chris and Ed again,' Reeves says.

It was on the glittering red carpet at the Oscars in March that Keanu Reeves tossed us a most excellent bit of semi-news about a potential new "Bill and Ted" sequel. "I'm trying, I'm trying," he said.

Was he serious? Just joking in the midst of the overly serious awards season circus? We honestly weren't sure. So when we got a chance to chat with Reeves again — this time at the Toronto Film Festival, where he was promoting "Henry's Crime" — we had to probe further. Is a third "Bill and Ted" flick really in the works? Might Reeves reunite with co-star Alex Winter and writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon?

Perhaps. And Reeves is positively giddy about the possibility that it actually could happen.

"We're trying. Alex and I are still friends and we're talking, and we're talking to Chris and Ed," Reeves said. "They're going to try and see if they can write something. To me, I'd love to play the role. I'd love to work with Alex and Chris and Ed again."

"We'll see what they do. If it's a film that can stand up on its own ... and I'm meeting people now, they've shown the film to their kids," he added. "We just seek to entertain, and if that could be something that could be worthwhile, on its own ..."

Whether or not Matheson and Solomon hit on an idea that is worthwhile, of course, is only the first of many questions surrounding the chance that another "Bill and Ted" becomes a reality. But it's worth noting, as well, how darn enthusiastic Reeves is about the project.

During our chat, he popped off joke after joke about "Bill and Ted," mixing his humor with genuine hope ("That would be amazing!" he declared at one point). He veered from one wacky pitch to the next — everything from a 3-D black-and-white sequel to a multi-director feature involving Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola and Werner Herzog. Will a third "Bill and Ted" happen? Who knows? But it sure is fun to hear Reeves launch into an impression of Herzog describing the project.

"I was just pushed by the idea of this innocence being confronted by the nihilism of the world," he joked. "And I thought that these two clowns could push our perspective of reality and truth to the forefront of meaning and knowledge."
