The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive

Plies' brother Ronell "Big Gates" Levatte returned home in April after a three-year prison stint, and we got a chance to meet him during BET Hip-Hop Awards weekend in Atlanta. Gates was a very humble cat, saying he heard nothing but great things about us and we definitely say the same.

One of Gates' first duties was picking all the songs for his baby brother's new Goon Affiliated album. With "Becky" already a juggernaut in the clubs, it's safe to say he knows what he's doing.

"Hey, man, P got a lot of songs," Gates told us exclusively on the BET red carpet.

"He actually records a lot of songs he don't put out," Gates continued. "Going through that whole process of all them songs — just about all of them are hits anyway — it was a hard process. But I think I got it pretty much nailed to the T."

Any favorites?

"All of them," Gates added. "My whole purpose was to pick 18 classic songs. I wanted to like all 18 the same. I wanted to say, 'This my favorite, this my favorite, this my favorite.' So I think we got that."

"We ain't calling it a classic — we calling it an antique," Plies chimed in. "It ain't just me that's saying it, the streets are saying it. We ain't doing the classic, we did them the last three [albums], so it's fortified: Goon Affiliated the antique."

"We done stepped up," Gates declared. "New terminology — antique instead of classic."

Plies' new single is "Medicine," featuring Keri Hilson. Goon Affiliated has no official release date at press time.

Exclusive: Beyonce And Lady Gaga's 'Video Phone' Clip Confirmed!

All week, gossip sites have been abuzz with rumors that two of the fiercest divas in the game — Beyoncé and Lady Gaga — had joined forces on a super-secret video for B's "Video Phone."

It was a fairly big deal, and accordingly there's been much quoting of "insider" sources and "my boy [who] worked as a stylist for [Gaga's] dancers," but no confirmation from any major contributor to the project — until now.

On Thursday (October 15), a spokesperson for director Hype Williams confirmed to MTV News that that both Beyoncé and Gaga appear in the "Video Phone" clip, which Williams shot last weekend in Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood.

Williams' spokesperson would not confirm any additional information about the "Video Phone" shoot, but, according to Life and Style magazine, security on set was extremely tight, and the video is shaping up to be a fashion bonanza, with Beyoncé wearing "a feathered dress" and Gaga sporting "something wild ... the fashion is sick and insane."

Mirroring the Life and Style report, another source posted on Pulse Music Board that the "Video Phone" clip was shot on a "closed set [with] no cameras or video phones" allowed. Apparently, the video version of the song — which is from Beyoncé's 2008 I Am ... Sasha Fierce album — features B and Gaga trading up-tempo verses, and sees Gaga adding an extra verse to the tune. The clip also features "lots of choreography" and "more dancers than the two girls [Beyoncé is] always with."

At press time, spokespeople for Beyoncé and Lady Gaga could not be reached or would not comment on the video.

Lady Gaga cannot be stopped. Less than two weeks after her planned outing with Kanye West was mothballed, Gaga has announced plans for her upcoming North American tour, called "The Monster Ball."

The outing, with support from rapper Kid Cudi, was announced on the singer's official site on Thursday (October 15), with a promise that it will be the first-ever "pop electro opera." The first date of the 22-show tour is November 27 at the Bell Center in Montreal, and current plans call for it to finish with two dates at Radio City Music Hall in New York on January 20-21.

"The Haus of Gaga had been designing 'The Monster Ball' for premiere in 2010 at the O2 Arena in London, but due to diligent work and preparation, 'The Monster Ball' will begin on November 27 in Montreal," Gaga said in a statement posted on her site. " 'The Monster Ball' is a multimedia artistic experience in the style of the first-ever 'pop electro opera.' "

A week before the tour kicks off, on November 23, Gaga will release the re-packaged version of her breakthrough 4 million-selling debut, The Fame, called The Fame Monster. Fan site GagaDaily.com claims to have the official listing of the eight new songs on the bonus disc: "Bad Romance," "Alejandro," "Monster," "So Happy I Could Die," "Speechless," "Dance in the Dark," "Telephone" and "Teeth." A spokesperson for Gaga did not return requests for confirmation on the track listing at press time.

"I wrote about everything I didn't write on The Fame," Gaga said last week in a press release about the new songs. "While traveling the world for two years, I've encountered several monsters, each represented by a different song on the new record: my 'Fear of Sex Monster,' my 'Fear of Alcohol Monster,' my 'Fear of Love Monster,' my 'Fear of Death Monster,' my 'Fear of Loneliness Monster,' etc." She did not further specify the exact titles of the new songs, except for one called "Speechless" and "Bad Romance," the song that she officially debuted at an Alexander McQueen fashion show in Paris last week.

While Gaga is expected to play all her hits on the tour, she warned her fans to be ready for the new material as well. "A message to all my little monsters: The Fame Monster will come out four days before the first live show," she said. "You have exactly 96 hours to learn all of the lyrics so you can sing along. Dress accordingly."

The Monster Ball dates are:

While Britney Spears fans rejoice that her new single, "3," debuted at the top of the charts this week, the pop star made their celebration even sweeter by releasing images from her video shoot for the song, which was shot last week.

In a black-and-white photo on her Twitter page, Britney is dressed in a sheer, black, belly-baring top and straight pants and surrounded by six male dancers. Behind them is a white wall hung with barcode-like light installations.

In an additional photo on her site, Britney is seen sitting in a makeup chair in a sparkly little black dress, looking at the mirror. Other photos obtained by MTV News show her in a white leotard, dancing provocatively with two of the male dancers.

"I am so happy y'all love it because I do this all for you. I can't wait till you see the video!" she tweeted on Wednesday. And last week, she informed her followers, "2nd day shooting my 3 video in LA with Diane Martel. Lot's of new choreography from Tone & Rich. It's gonna be hot!"

Spears also took to Twitter to thank her fans for making her new track an instant hit. "I want to thank my fans for making '3' the #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100," she said. "I am truly blessed with the greatest fans in the world."

The song is set to be featured on Britney's upcoming hits album, The Singles Collection, out on November 24.

'New Moon' Soundtrack Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

Posted: 16 Oct 2009 03:52 AM PDT

We've been following the 'Twilight' music madness since the beginning.
By Eric Ditzian

Early last November, weeks before Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart introduced the world to "Twilight" movie madness, the film's soundtrack shot straight to the top of the Billboard albums chart. After conquering bookstores and on its way to a $70 million opening weekend at theaters, "Twilight" had showed it could rock your iPod too.

Fast-forward a year, and it's set to happen again. Little more than a month before "New Moon" premieres, the movie's soundtrack is looking to make a splash when it drops Friday (October 16). MTV News has been mapping the universe of "New Moon" music for months — which bands made the cut, which bands didn't, what the lucky few had to say about being selected — and we've gathered all our reporting together so you will know everything there is to know about the movie's tunes, in MTV's "New Moon" soundtrack cheat sheet:

The First Soundtrack
News about the original "Twilight" soundtrack started to trickle out as early as April 2008, when MTV News visited the movie's Oregon set and reported that to the disc. That summer at Comic-Con, director Catherine Hardwicke confirmed the info, saying he'd composed three songs. While only one RPattz track, "Never Think," made the cut, the Brit actor was joined on the soundtrack by Muse, Paramore, Perry Farrell and Linkin Park, among others.

" 'Twilight' really caught my attention and held it," Paramore's Hayley Williams told MTV News that September. "I'm really excited to see the book adapted to film and excited that our band gets to be a part of the phenomenon."

The soundtrack ended up selling 164,700 its first week on its way to achieving double-platinum status.

Collecting the 'New Moon' Sounds
Which bands would get the call for the soundtrack sequel? For months, there was a whole lot of speculation without much in the way of solid answers. Coldplay, Kelly Clarkson, Thom Yorke and the Kings of Leon were among the names floated early on. The first verified news came in August, when MTV News revealed that Death Cab for Cutie had secured the soundtrack's first single with their tune "Meet Me on the Equinox." We then premiered the song during VMA weekend.

After weeks of guesswork and insider leaks, "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer unveiled the full track list on her Web site September 21. The artists and bands included Muse, the Killers, Thom Yorke, Lykke Li and OK Go.

The Artists Speak
Ever since the lineup went public, MTV News has been hitting up these musicians for their thoughts on joining the "Twilight" universe and the inside word about the songs they've contributed.

"We were all really excited to be asked to write for it, because it had become such a massive phenomenon," Death Cab frontman Ben Gibbard said. "We wrote and recorded the song and turned it in, and you hoped the people deemed it worthy."

It was indeed deemed worthy, as was the track recorded by Bon Iver and St. Vincent called "Rosyln." "I think there's something vampirey and creepy about the two of us singing together," said St. Vincent, whose real name is Annie Clark. "It's a simple, stripped-down kind of song. It's really elegant and beautiful."

Swedish singer Lykke Li revealed that she caught an early viewing of "New Moon," sat down at the piano and composed "Possibility." "It's almost like a fever haze," she explained. "It's very repetitive, like a mood you go into. ... The lyrics are like, 'When you walk, you walk like a thief with blood on your hands, because I die when you leave me.' "

Returning for the second "Twilight" soundtrack, Muse said they were thankful for the increased exposure. "I think our music has reached out to whole loads of new people that haven't heard us before," drummer Dominic Howard said. "It's great to know that people are discovering our music. It's a nice side project to be involved in."

The Vampire Future
The "Twilight" future is actually arriving a bit early this year — four days, to be exact — after the soundtrack release date was shifted from October 20 to October 16. But what comes next? "Eclipse," the third of the franchise films, is in the midst of shooting in Vancouver. Which musicians might make it onto that soundtrack?

Muse have hinted that the band will be contributing music yet again to the franchise. "We might even do something for the third one," Howard told us. "How about that for a scoop?"

But for now, it's all just speculation. And here's some more: Jackson Rathbone, who plays vampire Jasper Cullen, leads a band called 100 Monkeys, which is providing the soundtrack and score for his upcoming movie "Girlfriend." Could this mean that Rathbone might show up on "Eclipse," as Pattinson did on "Twilight"?

"We'd love it," Rathbone told MTV News in June. "[But] we're not really pushing for it. It's one of those things where if they want to put our song on the album, I'm not going to complain."

Check out everything we've got on "The Twilight Saga: New Moon."

Floyd Mayweather Talks Feud With Rick Ross

Posted: 15 Oct 2009 01:08 AM PDT

'The thing I'm gonna do is stay in my lane and let him stay in his lane,' boxer says of verbal jabs from the Miami MC.
By Tim Kash

Floyd "Money" Mayweather is not someone you want to trade blows with — in the ring or over the radio.

As a professional boxer, he has 40 wins under his belt. As a business mogul, Mayweather lives up to his nickname "Money Mayweather" — his last three title fights generated close to $300 million in revenue. And as an entertainer, Mayweather loves to floss.

Boxing and hip-hop fans alike may remember that 50 Cent was a member of Mayweather's ringside entourage at his 2007 super welterweight fight against Oscar De La Hoya. It was this friendship with 50 that launched Mayweather into an ongoing verbal sparring match with 50's rival Rick Ross.

When Rick Ross dropped the line, "That Mayweather money looking funny in the light" on the track "Mafia Music" in reference to the rumors that Mayweather allegedly owed the IRS over $6 million, Mayweather understandably took offense. He hit back at Ross in interviews, criticizing Ross' pre-rap career as a corrections officer, saying, "If I need someone arrested, I'll call him." And when the Rick Ross and Triple C's track "Go" dropped, the war between the two heated up. The video began with Ross saying, "F--- Floyd Mayweather," before continuing to make fun of the sparrer's IRS problems.

"I just think that when you are on a certain level, you just let things go by," Mayweather said about the situation. "I'm a fighter. That's what I do. I'm into contact. He's a rapper. That's what he do. The thing I'm gonna do is stay in my lane and let him stay in his lane."

But it seems Rick Ross might also be a fan of Floyd Mayweather — in fact, Mayweather says Ross was at his 2007 fight against Ricky Hatton. "He paid money to see me ... I appreciate the donation from Rick Ross," Mayweather said.

Ryan Ross Ready To Release Young Veins' Take A Vacation

Posted: 15 Oct 2009 03:21 AM PDT

Former Panic! at the Disco guitarist is ready to debut 'more accessible' music from his new band.
By James Montgomery

Ryan Ross
Photo: MTV News

Despite what you may have read, Ryan Ross isn't a drug addict. He isn't a troublemaker or a "rock star" either. He wasn't the reason Panic! at the Disco split up. He's just a guy with a new band (and a new album) who just so happens to also be carrying around a ton of baggage. And he'll happily discuss all of it with you.

"I don't take myself very seriously. I gave up on trying to prove anything to people. If something is funny to me, it's funny," he said. "I don't really take anything very seriously, I guess, unless it's about the band. I would say my main goal is to be one of the top 20 most-hated people on the Internet. I'm well on my way."

He probably is. For reasons that he can't seem to comprehend, Ross — who, along with former Panic! bassist Jon Walker, left their former bandmates behind to start the Young Veins earlier this summer — has been saddled with a bit of a bad-boy tag, mostly by kids who now claim to be his former fans. Which is why every time he posts a blurry photo on his Twitter account or cracks a joke about getting married in a shotgun ceremony, it's not only taken as gospel, but as more proof that he's lost his mind.

And he has absolutely no problem with any of that.

"See, that's another thing — comedy doesn't come across that well on Twitter. I would've figured, come on, if I'm as bad as people think I am, I would've had a way better wedding than that. I wouldn't have done it over Twitter," Ross laughed. "So, no. I did not get married. We thought it would be funny — nobody else thought it was funny. Friends of mine were like, 'Congratulations!' and I was like, 'Dude, are you serious — you actually thought it was a legitimate thing?' People didn't think it was funny."

And rather than try to address any of the rumors surrounding him, Ross has instead decided to disappear from public view, throwing himself headlong into finishing the Veins' debut, Take a Vacation. It's a decision that's only caused his legend to grow exponentially. To a lot of Panic! fans, Ross is a spook story — the dark yin to Brendon Urie and Spencer Smith's bright and shiny yang. He's basically a mystery — albeit one with a very active Twitter presence.

But now, with Vacation done, he's starting the long climb back into the spotlight. And though the Veins currently don't have a label (they're in the process of shopping the finished disc) or any solid tour plans, Ross is ready to welcome his fans — both current and former — back into his world. He just hopes they're ready.

"I hope that our other fans love [the record]. I hope the kids from Panic! like it too," he said. "I think it's more accessible and maybe better than our last record was. In terms of pop songs, I think they're better pop songs. It's not like we're trying to do this cooler than cool new bands — it's pop songs, you know?"

Wisin Y Yandel Launch Next Phase Of Revolucion With T-Pain

After cracking the top 10 on the U.S. albums charts with La Revolución, scoring their first-ever VMA nom and collaborating with hip-hop giants like 50 Cent and Akon, Wisin y Yandel are set to release another album. And the reggaetón hitmakers remain steadfast in their quest to stretch the boundaries of Latin music , this time recruiting T-Pain for the first single, "Imaginate."

"It's a very different song, and once again, we're breaking down the language barrier," Wisin told MTV News from the video set. "His verses are in English, and we sing in Spanish, repping for all the Latinos. And [T-Pain is] repping the American market."

"I don't think I could've rapped in Spanish anyway," Pain joked. "I'm just doing the hook. You know, classic T-Pain: I make great hooks. They wanted to do something with me, and I wanted to do something with them. And I think it worked out great."

The video, which also features actors Wilmer Valderamma and Amaury Nolasco, tells the dramatic tale of a love triangle that ends in tragedy. It includes a grim funeral scene complete with fake rain that was shot at a cemetery on the outskirts of L.A.

"My role in the video, I'm just supporting them with their friend being dead and whatnot. That's why we're in the cemetery," said T-Pain, who flew from Africa to Atlanta the night before and arrived in L.A. an hour before the Sunday morning shoot. "It's not really spooking me out. I actually own a hearse. I just don't like walking on people's graves. It's hard not to, they're so close together. It's crazy."

The single "Imaginate" will be featured on the Grammy-winning duo's forthcoming album La Evolución, a re-release of La Revolución that includes five new tracks along with remixes from the double-platinum LP.

"This new track with T-Pain will be on there," Wisin said. "We also have a new track with Enrique Iglesias called 'Gracias a Ti' and a remix with Akon of 'All Up to You.' It's gonna be a hot album."

"There's also some reggaetón songs on there that I think the fans have been waiting to hear from us. So I think they're really going to like it," Yandel added.

Meanwhile, La Revolución continues to dominate. Wisin y Yandel are up for three Latin Grammys next month, including "Best Latin Urban Song" with 50 Cent for their "Mujeres en el Club" collaboration. And the duo, who are currently playing to sold-out crowds on their world tour, also scored an American Music Award nod and six nominations from Premios MTV (Latin American VMAs).

Wisin y Yandel are scheduled to perform with 50 Cent at Premios MTV, which airs Thursday (October 15) at 10 p.m. on MTV Tr3s.

Muse May Be On Third 'Twilight' Soundtrack Too

Muse are apparently fully embracing their status as the "Twilight" band. They've already had their track "Supermassive Black Hole" on the first film's soundtrack, and come Friday, Twilighters can get their hands on the "New Moon" soundtrack, which features the group's remixed track "I Belong to You."

Now it looks like there's a good chance the British rockers will be back for even more vampy fun on the "Eclipse" soundtrack. "It's great to have the feeling of being a new band again in so many people's eyes or minds ... we might even do something for the third one," drummer Dominic Howard told MTV News. "How about that for a scoop?"

Nothing is set in stone yet, but Howard noted that besides being a favorite of "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer, they also have an in with "Eclipse" director David Slade.

"[Slade is] kind of a friend of ours 'cause he directed about three or four of our videos for the second album, and he's a really great video director," Howard explained. "I know he did that really great kind of sick horror [film '30 Days of Night'] which was a bit of a vampire/zombie vibe, wasn't it? So I think he's a great director, and he's quite a funny character as well. So, yeah, we might do something for him as well."

Although Muse have no problems selling albums without the assistance of "Twilight," Howard notes that they're not going to pass up the chance to work on music for the hugely popular franchise. "That's not the sole reason why people know about us, because this is now our fifth album," he said. "But it's a nice side project to be involved with."
