When Rick Ross thinks about Eminem making a Mariah Carey dis record instead of responding to his jabs toward Slim Shady, the Miami Bawse just cracks up laughing.

"You know what my thoughts are, man. We just laugh at it," Ross told us recently in New Mexico.

"He's smart," Ross said about Eminem not addressing him and avoiding a rhyme battle. "That's what I'm waiting for. That'll be a gift — a great Christmas present for me. But y'all know what I think. I think everybody knows. It's all 'hood, man. Shout-out to Mariah Carey, she needs to reach out to me. We could eradicate some things."

The vibe is not 100 percent antagonistic, however, when it comes to Ross' thoughts on Marshall Mathers — he actually has some praise for Em's latest verse.

"On a better note, I wanna shout out Eminem. I heard a record he did with Cash Money's own Lil Wayne and Drake and Kanye West. Eminem, you're smart. I understand ... we all know what you doing now. You're moving on to better things. Like I said, he might wanna do a record with me. We here. Triple Cs."

Ross, the Carol City Cartel, Masspike Miles and the rest of his musical family are putting out their mixtape Maybach Music Part III: White Sand real soon. The title signifies that they started in the streets and are now indulging in the finer things in life.

"We still on that hustle," Ross said. "I'm hungry like a new artist. It's a double disc of all new music as well as a DVD. It's taking the street mixtapes to the next level."

Triple Cs are filming the video for their first single, "Go," with the Birdman featured in the production. The album Custom Cars and Cycles is due to drop this fall.

Jay-Z Remembers DJ AM As 'Someone That Really Loved What He Did'

'He had a bandage on his head, and he was ready to go,' Jay says of performing with AM less than a month after he survived a plane crash.

NEW YORK — DJ AM was resilient as both a person and a professional, Jay-Z recalled of the late DJ.

The Brooklyn rapper tapped AM last September to back him for a gig in Los Angeles to help christen the reopening of the Hollywood Palladium the following month. When word broke the very next day that AM — along with Travis Barker — were critically injured in a plane crash, though, the Blueprint superstar wasn't concerned about AM making the show anymore; he just wanted him to tend to his health.

The celebrity DJ, however, did everything in his power to make the date. Less than a month after surviving the crash, which took the lives of the four other passengers aboard, AM announced he would honor his commitment to Jay-Z. The DJ told People magazine at the time that the show with the iconic MC was "the biggest thing that's happened in my career."

His resolve definitely impressed Jay-Z, who was introduced to the DJ the day before his tragic plane crash.

"I met him the day before the plane crash," Jay told MTV News on Monday, days after AM was found dead in his New York apartment. "We were doing the concert, and he told me that he had to go down to South Carolina to do a show with Travis, and then we'd go and do our show.

"The plane crash happened, and I'm thinking, 'Let him recover. We'll talk about that some other time,' " Jay continued. "He called, like, 'Nah, man, I'm still ready to go.' I was shocked by that at first. He came, he had a bandage on his head, and he was ready to go. He was someone that really loved what he did. That's passion: to love what you do and still go forward."

The two impressed the crowd throughout their performance together. At one point, Jay ventured behind the turntables while AM hammed it up for the crowd. "Make some noise for DJ AM," Jay ordered the crowd.

Having already canceled their Monday show in upstate New York following the death of friend DJ AM, Blink-182 have now postponed the next two dates on their tour, as they continue to mourn.

In a statement posted late Tuesday (September 1) on bassist Mark Hoppus' blog, the guys announced they are rescheduling their Wednesday night show in Cleveland and their Thursday night show in St. Louis and, as a result, were reshuffling subsequent dates on the tour.

"After much thought and consideration, Blink-182 has rescheduled their next two shows in order for Travis Barker to mourn the loss of his dear friend Adam Goldstein," the statement read. "Blink-182 will now play St. Louis, MO on Sept 29 and Cleveland, OH on Sept 30. To accommodate the change, shows in Charlotte, NC and Atlanta, GA have also moved to October 6th and 7th, respectively.

"All previously purchased tickets will be honored and the band will resume their current tour on September 4th in Kansas City, MO," the statement continued. "Travis, Mark and Tom would like to thank all their fans for their support during this difficult time."

Rumors of the postponement had been spreading throughout the day, starting when Taking Back Sunday guitarist Eddie Reyes — whose band has been opening for Blink on selected dates — tweeted that he was "home for three days" with his family and that he and his bandmates would "see you guys back in Kansas City."

Later, Alternative Press quoted "a representative for Weezer" (who are also on the Blink tour) that the Cleveland show had already been canceled and the St. Louis show was about to be.

A spokesperson for Blink-182 could not be reached for comment about the postponed dates.

Heidi Montag And Spencer Pratt Can't Agree On Baby Plans

'I'm not sure the world wants a Spencer Pratt spawn,' the male half of Speidi says.

Heidi Montag definitely has babies on the brain. However, it seems husband Spencer Pratt is not ready to be in the family way. And he seems serious about the whole no-babies-right-now rule.

"I think I'm ready," Heidi told MTV News. "I think I was born ready. I'm very maternal. I'm very loving. I would be the best mom ever. [He feels] not quite the same, but maybe he just doesn't know he wants kids yet. I think he never wants kids, but maybe I'll have a surprise for him."

Heidi knows the consequences of surprising Spencer with a pregnancy — she may find herself in divorce court. "He said, 'That's the quickest way to divorce,' " she explained. "I said, 'No, sucker — you'll be locked in. What do you mean?' "

Spencer revealed that Heidi's wanted a baby for some time now. "Heidi is, like, trying to have a baby like it's going to buy a new pair of Louis Vuittons. She's really ready to start this family. She's not playing. And that's what I'm saying — you can't sneak a baby."

And it seems like Heidi wasn't joking about Spencer's divorce plans. He went on to say that if there's a new party added to this family anytime soon, he'll be out. "What happens if she does? I told her there's a divorce or adoption. If she's not down with the adoption, I think it's divorce," he said. "I'm a baby. I'm not prepared. And I'm not sure the world wants a Spencer Pratt spawn."

Sublime Reunion: New Lead Singer, Same Old Dysfunction

Posted: 02 Sep 2009 03:51 AM PDT

Chaos surrounding band's re-formation is only fitting, in Bigger Than the Sound.
By James Montgomery

Sublime, with original frontman Bradley Nowell
Photo: Skunk Records, Inc.

On February 28, at a Mexican restaurant in Sparks, Nevada, Sublime reunited onstage for the first time in more than a decade, playing a hit-filled set before a few hundred awestruck, half-drunk revelers. Or maybe they didn't, since this Sublime consisted of drummer Bud Gaugh, bassist Eric Wilson and — in the place of late, lamented (and, at this point, practically sanctified) frontman Bradley Nowell — some dude named Rome. The genuine article it most certainly wasn't.

So, really, who knows? To some — most notably, Thad Peterson, who booked the show — it was very much the return of Sublime, a point that he made to me repeatedly when I spoke to him all those months ago. ("They sure sounded like Sublime," he enthused. "It was incredible.") To others — like, say, 90 percent of the commenters on sites like PunkDisasters.com — attempting to replace Nowell was close to blasphemy, a move akin to Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl jamming with J.D. Fortune and calling the end result Nirvana.

And herein lies the problem with all things Sublime: It's been 13 years since Nowell died of a heroin overdose, and in the years following his death, the band has sold something north of 17 million albums worldwide, becoming an institution and ascending to the first level of rock immortality. And yet, seemingly no one can agree on anything.

And I'm not even wading into the debate about whether a Rome-fronted Sublime is even really Sublime at all. To me, that's largely semantics. Like it or not, the band is back, due to appear at the 2009 Cypress Hill Smoke Out (as trumpeted in a press release sent Monday), alongside the likes of Pennywise and Cheech and Chong, which seems sort of perfect, when you consider the history of the band.

No, what I'm talking about is the behind-the-scenes stuff, the inner-workings (or lack thereof) of a band for whom drugs and death and dysfunction are par for the course, a band that has spent the past 13 years getting arrested, getting wasted and getting perilously close to obsolescence. And they've been perfectly OK with most of it.

I know this because, ever since the night Sublime may or may not have reunited in Sparks, I've been attempting to land an interview with them. For six months now, I've played phone tag with someone very close to their daily operations — a very nice, very mellow SoCal guy who just might be in over his head — and I've heard more horror stories than you could possibly believe. Possible legal battles. Debates over the use of the Sublime name. Battles to stay clean. Rumors of stints in rehab. With each bit of bad news, the promise of an interview (and "a big announcement") kept getting pushed back. Looking in my desk calendar now, I have the name "SUBLIME" written next to dates like March 11, May 1 and May 4. They all came and went without a bit of news.

And, of course, I'm not blaming my contact for any of this. Like I said, he just seemed to be doing the best he could, and none of these catastrophes fazed him in the least. Seems they become fairly regular occurrences when you're working with a band as checkered as Sublime.

And somehow — much like the band sharing the stage with Pennywise and Cheech and Chong — all this chaos has seemed somewhat fitting. Sublime were born out of squalor, out of weed smoke and empty 40 bottles, out of violence and grime and poverty. They existed amid all these things, rose above them, but they never really left them, because they influenced the music they made. And, after Nowell died, Gaugh and Wilson basically returned to them. And — by many accounts — they've been there ever since. Dysfunction is what this band runs on. It's what made them who they were and are today.

So, when the news of the band's Smoke Out appearance broke, I called, texted and e-mailed my guy. It took him about a day to respond with a quick e-mail and the promise of a phone call. I still haven't received that call, of course, and to be honest, I'm not even certain I ever will. But that's OK. If anything, it made me realize that even if Sublime are carrying on with a new frontman, they're still the same band — deeply flawed, supremely dysfunctional, and completely fine with both of those things.

Some things never change, either because they can't, or because they won't. So long as the tunes are still good, what's the difference, really?

Lil Wayne's 'Behind The Music' Shows MC's False Start, Ultimate Rise

Hour-long episode set to air September 10 on VH1.
By Jayson Rodriguez

Lil Wayne was already on rap's radar back when he was a member of Cash Money Records' Hot Boyz crew. But when the collective — featuring Juvenile, BG, Young Turk and Wayne — disbanded, the New Orleans native's solo career sputtered despite showing promise on his major-label debut, Tha Block Is Hot.

In the rapper's upcoming "Behind the Music" special, set to air September 10 on VH1, he talks openly about scrapping his rhyme books during a furious recording session, where he transformed from Cash Money's young sidekick to the label's heavyweight superstar.

"The only way I won't be able to rap anything I've written again is to record everything I've ever written before once," he explained of what led to his now notebook-free style.

The result was a 35-minute freestyle called "10,000 Bars," on which Wayne's disjointed rhymes, parts of various working songs, become a cathartic release and set the tone for his memorable mixtape run and a series of Carter albums.

"That changed Wayne as an artist," his longtime manager, Cortez Bryant, said.

In the wake of that recording session, Wayne developed a spastic, flowing, free-association style. Songs like "A Milli" and "I Feel Like Dying," along with his Dedication 3 mixtape, cemented his prowess. The real confirmation came with his first-week sales of 1 million copies of Tha Carter III and his Grammy win for Best Rap Album this year.

The hour-long "Behind the Music" also looks at Lil Wayne's rise to pop stardom and features a number of familiar faces from his past: Juvenile, BG and producer Mannie Fresh offer insight in the MC's prolific ascendance; Turk, the fourth Hot Boyz member, is currently incarcerated.

Lil Wayne's still-pending court case in New York for allegedly carrying a weapon is examined. He also opens up about his 2004 marriage to his high school sweetheart and the mother of his first child. Throughout the show, the rapper's drug use and the shooting that almost took his life as a child are also detailed.

"I just slid to the door in my own blood," Wayne said of his self-inflicted gunshot wound and the aftermath.

The rapper's New York gun case stems from 2007 arrest following his first headlining show in Manhattan. Wayne's tour bus was stopped moments after his show and the rapper was arrested and later released. Wayne is due back in a New York court later this month.

In his interview with CNN's Larry King, Chris Brown said that he's ashamed of what happened in the early-morning hours of February 8, when he assaulted then-girlfriend Rihanna.

In the latest clip released from the interview that took place last week and is scheduled to air Wednesday night (September 2), King asks Brown how he feels about the reports documenting the attack.

"When you look at this, do you feel like you're looking at someone else?" King asks Brown, who is dressed in a light-blue sweater, white oxford and blue bowtie for his first televised interview since the assault.

"Yeah, from the outside looking in, what you see on TV, when they sayin' this, when they sayin' that," replies Brown, who released a statement on Monday saying that the first excerpt of the interview, in which Brown says he doesn't remember the incident, was taken out of context.

"You punched her a number of times; you threatened to beat the blank out of her," King continues. "[You] also said you were gonna kill her. You bit her on the ear and finger."

Brown, his eyes cast down, mumbles "yeah" to King's comments but offers no further explanation of his actions.

"You don't appear like a violent person," King says. "In fact, you appear rather calm, rather nice. So, what happened to you, do you think?"

Brown, who has never before publicly discussed the events of that night other than in his video apology, shakes his head and says, "I guess that night is just one of those nights I wish I could just take back, and I really regret and I feel totally ashamed of what I did."

The singer pleaded guilty to felony assault on June 22 in a deal that helped him avoid up to five years in jail, but includes five years of probation, six months of community labor service and an order to keep away from Rihanna for five years.

Brown also sat down with People magazine last week, with mother Joyce Hawkins by his side, and said that he was still in love with Rihanna. "I never fell out of love with her," he said. "That just wouldn't go away." He also said that after the assault, he was "distraught ... I went to my mom on the same night and told [her] what happened and broke down."

And while Brown has spoken about the domestic violence against his mother he witnessed growing up, he said he feels like he's different from his stepfather. "I feel like he enjoyed it," Brown said of Donnelle Hawkins, who has denied abusing Joyce Hawkins. "He was an abuser. It was continuous."

Just days after DJ AM was found dead in his New York apartment, his girlfriend, model and actress Hayley Wood, is speaking out about the tragedy. In a statement, she disputed reports that the pair were broken up at the time of AM's death.

"Any indication that this horribly tragic accident happened because of a rumored breakup is not only untrue but disgusting," she told Us Weekly in a statement. "We were very much together at the time of his passing, and I love him very much."

When news first broke of his death, sources told various news outlets that AM (born Adam Goldstein) was "completely devastated" over a breakup with his girlfriend of about one year, 22-year-old Wood, only about a week prior to his death.

"She ended it, and he didn't want it to end," a source reportedly told People about the rumored split. "The breakup hurt him. He hadn't been in a good place lately. For the past week, he wasn't really around, he was keeping to himself, and he was blowing people off."

Meanwhile, the night AM's body was discovered in his New York apartment, a blond woman believed to be Wood was seen leaving the building. According to eyewitnesses, the woman appeared to be "visibly shaken" as she made her way from the apartment to a nearby taxi with an unidentified friend by her side.

Kristin Cavallari made a lot of promises that she'd be spicing things up when she joined "The Hills." And judging by a new teaser out for season five of the show, which premieres on September 29, she was telling the truth.

The clip confirms the rumor that Cavallari and Justin Bobby are starting up a romance, and it looks like Audrina Patridge isn't the only one who has a problem with her new co-star's ways.

"Lauren basically told us she's a man eater. She's a boyfriend stealer," Audrina shares about the new girl. Later on in the trailer, she says, "These are peoples' lives that she's messing with. People do have hearts and feelings."

Stephanie Pratt seems especially apprehensive about Cavallari. "She's like a disease you can't get rid of," she says. "She's the girl who's going to stab us all in the back, and she doesn't care. ... How can one person turn all of our lives upside down?"

Meanwhile, things get serious for Holly Montag, who is confronted about her drinking by her sister, Heidi Montag, and brother-in-law, Spencer Pratt, who would like to see Holly get help. "I think Holly might need to go to rehab," Heidi says. "I want to help [her] however we can."

And, as Stephanie hinted to MTV News earlier this week, Spencer reacts uncomfortably to Heidi's talk of wanting to start a family. He confides to his sister, "If you hear her talk about a baby, just tell her, 'Yo, Spencer's not having a baby for 100 years.' "

Aubrey O'Day has released a statement about a clip of her appearance Monday night (August 31) on the Fox News program, "Hannity," in which the former Danity Kane singer calls Fidel Castro and Adolf Hitler "brilliant."

In the statement released to MTV News, the singer reasserts what she said on the show, emphasizing that just because she thinks they were smart doesn't mean she condones the notorious leaders' "evil behavior."

"Murderers and dictators generally are some of the smartest people out there — they just use their brain power for evil purposes," O'Day said. "I don't condone any of their evil behavior, but I was asked about their intellectual firepower ... and in my opinion you can't have a low IQ and wreak that much havoc on the world. What Hitler succeeded in doing was deplorable. And I hope we never see such an abusive use of power again."

In the interview, O'Day also mentioned that she had met Castro and "worked with him" when she was in Cuba. In the statement she goes into greater depth about that encounter.

"I was a college student on a program called Semester at Sea. Through that program, chosen political-science students attended a half-day seminar of Fidel Castro and his thoughts on basically everything except Cuba's relationship with the U.S.," she recalled. "It was very interesting."

O'Day was ostensibly invited to "Hannity" share her opinion on a recent U.N. report on international sex-education guidelines, which recommends that children be taught about masturbation. The Playboy model said she agreed with the recommendation, citing the lack of information on HIV and AIDS she witnessed when visiting places in Africa.
