Talk-show hosts made the biggest headlines on Monday night's "Dancing With the Stars," with Ricki Lake earning the highest marks and Nancy Grace suffering a near-wardrobe malfunction.

Here's how it all played out:

Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy
The soccer goalie kicked off the competition with the jive, giving the judges exactly what they wanted. It was a fitting opening from Solo, who set the tone for what was to come from other contestants. Hard-to-please head judge Len Goodman said, "It was quick! It was sharp. Unfortunately, you lost your timing a little bit here and there. There wasn't quite the synchronicity. However, having said that, first out, first class." 19/30

Kristin Cavallari and Mark Ballas
In their quickstep, Cavallari was aiming to do a Hollywood-glam interpretation of the dance. Dressed in a sexy, long white gown, à la Marilyn Monroe, the judges said the reality-TV star nailed it. Goodman made a few notes but said he thought it was a great improvement from her first week out. His fellow judges concurred. "I've been bedazzled by the blond bombshell! I love old, Hollywood glamor! This performance was twinkling with pleasure," Bruno Tonioli gushed. Carrie Ann Inaba said: "Last week nervous; this week stunning! You kept your hold, you kept your frame. I thought it was gorgeous!" 22/30

David Arquette and Kym Johnson
The judges appreciated the enthusiasm Arquette offered in his routine this week, saying he followed directions by not holding back. Other than that, they think his routine needs work, saying he lost a lot of technique. Still, he was complimented for gaining confidence. "Carson has some competition! That was Carson-esque! What I love about it is the incredible enthusiasm that came out of you," Inaba said, comparing Arquette to fellow contestant Carson Kressley. "You let it all hang out on the dance floor. I think this is the direction for you to stay in." 18/30

Elisabetta Canalis and Val Chmerkovskiy
The Italian actress and host, who is partnered with newcomer and Maksim's brother Val, impressed the judges with a big improvement from last week. That said, there's work to do. "I'm not going to say much. I'm just going to say this: It's not great, but it was better than last week," Goodman said. "The gears were grinding, the engines were hot. The pistols were pumping. Keep working," Tonioli said. 21/30

Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke
The two danced the jive, and Kardashian looked every bit the surfer dude, dressed in a Hawaiian shirt and his hair done up in a pompadour. The judges said it was a proper performance, and Burke declared that Kardashian is a better dancer than his sister Kim, who was a contestant on another season. "You have the dancing gene and it is coming out!" Burke yelled out. Said Tonioli: "You started to blossom. You're starting to find your own voice. You're having a good time. Your timing was excellent. But I'm telling you, great, great job." 21/30

Carson Kressley and Anna Trebunskaya
Judges said the worst dancers on the show were the most fun to watch, which is the blessing and the curse of this performance. They acknowledged that there was a lot of work put into the routine, but there is much more technical work to be done. "I saw improvement, yet I'm not sure what happened to that improvement in the dance. You were a little wobbly. It had good intent. So that was a little disconcerting. But great enthusiasm," Inaba said. 18/30

Ricki Lake and Derek Hough
Lake and Hough hit the stage dancing to Outkast's "Hey Ya," and Goodman said there were a couple of steps that disturbed them a bit. "I liked the fun. I liked the exuberance. There was a lot of under-the-arm passes. But it was an improvement on last week," Goodman said. His fellow judges didn't exactly agree. Tonioli liked her kicks, and Inaba called it the "best jive of the night so far!" 23/30

Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer
After last week's much-anticipated performance, Bono wanted to up the ante with the quickstep, a difficult routine considering that Bono was nursing a bum knee. In the rehearsal segments, he complained that he had old, creaky knees and said his doctor gave him something to help with his joints. They ended up taking out some of the flashier bits of their routine because of his injuries. Goodman said it was too slow and needed more attack. Everyone else was in agreement. "I could actually see you in pain, but that's part of what goes with the territory on this show. Unfortunately, you're not going to get a great score tonight," Inaba warned. 17/30

Chynna Phillips and Tony Dovolani
The two danced the jive, and the judges thought it was good but lacked exuberance. "I really enjoy watching you dance. It's genuinely pretty. But I will say, I kind of felt like you played it a little safe. After what we saw last week, I said 'she's going to come out and kill this jive,' " Inaba said. 21/30

Nancy Grace and Tristan McManus
The TV host and prosecutor had a bit of a wardrobe malfunction at the end of her routine, but the TV cameras didn't catch it, instead focusing on the reaction of the audience. "On the European version, that would be perfectly fine," host Tom Bergeron joked. Goodman loved her routine, saying, "How refreshing! Let me tell you: Every quickstep has broken the moves of the dance. You did that. I know what people are saying. They're going to say, 'Where's the flash? Where was the razzamatazz?' I don't care. It was a proper quickstep," Goodman said, who gave her an 8. 21/30

J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff
The last couple to take the stage danced the jive and upped the ante from last week's impressive Viennese waltz. The war hero scored high praise from the judges, who said he was born to dance. "You have a feel for the music that comes from within you. The most satisfying overall performance of the night," Tonioli said. 22/30

Britney Spears Responds To 'Criminal' Video Controversy

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 03:25 AM PDT

'The video is a fantasy story,' statement says after U.K. criticism that the clip glorifies violence.

When Britney Spears flew to London earlier this month to shoot her video for "Criminal," she probably didn't think the clip would generate the kind of controversy it has.

And yet, in the week since she wrapped filming, Spears has been taken to task by politicians in the U.K. for a scene in the video, in which the pop star packs a pistol as she flees a London-area building. They've claimed that the image of Brit gripping a gun glamorizes violence and, in the aftermath of the widespread riots that rattled the nation last month, the pop star should "apologize ... for the rudeness and damage that she's done to our community."

Late Monday (September 26), MTV News received a statement from Spears' camp about the "Criminal" controversy — and, from the sound of things, she's not going to be apologizing anytime soon.

"The video is a fantasy story featuring Britney's boyfriend, Jason Trawick, which literally plays out the lyrics of a song written three years before the riots ever happened," the statement read.

Criticisms of the "Criminal" video began last week, after images of Spears and Trawick making an escape from an apparent robbery (with Brit brandishing a replica revolver) began making the rounds. The scene in question was shot in the London borough of Hackney, which was hit hard by the August riots, and local politicians were upset by what they saw as an insensitive gesture by Spears.

"It is only a music video, but it's images like this, with pop stars glamorizing gangs, which means that some young people ... get drawn in," Hackney's Member of Parliament, Diane Abbott, told the ITV news program "London Tonight." "Britney should really know better."

Hackney's council members — who gave Spears' camp the OK to shoot at the nearby Stoke Newington Town Hall — also took issue with the fact that no one involved with the production of the "Criminal" video mentioned that a gun was to be used in the clip and, had they known, they would not have allowed filming in the recently restored building.

"In this case we did not agree that a replica gun could be used at Stoke Newington Town Hall and are disappointed," the council said in a statement to "London Tonight." "We will be raising this matter with the production company."

Justin Bieber And Selena Gomez's Arena Date: How Much Did It Cost?

A regular guy would have dropped serious coin to rent out the Staples Center for a romantic night out.
By Gil Kaufman

Membership has its privileges, and when the club you're in is the elite pop star society, there isn't much you can't get your hands on. That's why a teenager like Justin Bieber was able to swing the swankiest surprise date of all time with his squeeze Selena Gomez on Friday night when he treated her to dinner and a movie at the Staples Center.

Now, before you get any ideas. The 20,000-seat home of the Los Angeles Lakers (and countless major concerts) is not available to just any Joe Schmo. No, Bieber reportedly got the keys to the palace for free because he's sold the joint out three times and owner AEG Live figured they'd throw him a bone. Which got us thinking: What would it cost to treat your sweetie to a Bieber-esque night of steak and "Titanic"?

Check out photos of Justin and Selena.

As you might imagine, the powers-that-be at Staples weren't really willing to spill the beans, but we crunched some numbers on our own and here's what we were able to figure:

$475,000: That's how much it would cost you to buy a high-end VIP luxury suite for 14 at the Staples Center, which would get you about 2,500 tickets a year to Lakers, Clippers and Sparks basketball games; L.A. Kings hockey games; concerts; lectures; X Games; and wrestling matches. Given that the venue holds 20,000, we can only imagine a one-night rental would run you well into the six figures.

$200-plus: Bieber ordered steaks and pasta from the exclusive members-only Lexus Club at Staples, a 130-capacity high-end dining area where even the buffet will run you $57.

Priceless: The lucky couple reportedly watched "Titanic" on their date. Now, most men would try to save a few bucks and rent the regular DVD, but given JB's clear baller tendencies, is it safe to assume he called James Cameron and finagled an early copy of the 3-D anniversary Blu-ray edition that is due out in April?

$299 to $1,199: The price of renting an inflatable, 32- to 40-foot portable movie screen from FunFlicks.com for a special event. That is, assuming the Biebs did not make Gomez crane her neck and watch the whole movie on the Center's Jumbotron.

194: That's how many minutes "Titanic" would run if JB didn't have a remote that would allow him and Selena to skip some of the hours of extras.

2:30 a.m.: That's about how late into the morning the couple would have had to stay at Staples in order to watch all of "Titanic," assuming they started it as soon as they arrived at 11 p.m. and had it running during their meal.

$300,000: The amount Bieber pulls in nightly at each one of his concerts.

$53 million: That's how much Bieber banked in 2010. In other words, don't sweat it: He can afford this kind of date every night of the year if he wants to.

Rihanna is showing no signs of stopping. No, seriously. Only days after the release of her new single "We Found Love," the pop megastar has already started filming a video for the sparkly dance track.

Donning an extremely long safety-pinned shirt, bandana bikini and jeans, the 23-year-old singer was snapped smoking and looking contemplative in a cornfield in Northern Ireland. According to BBC News, hundreds of spectators took to nearby roads to catch a glimpse of the pop star during the video shoot.

Rihanna took to Bangor in Northern Ireland for the video shoot just days before she's set to perform three concerts in Belfast later this week. The jet-setting pop star's last performance was in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, over the weekend.

The Rihanna Navy was tipped off about the pop singer's video shoot Sunday when she took to Twitter. "Im shootin a video in 2 #beatDAT," she wrote, in response to a fan complaining about a lack of sleep.

"We Found Love" is Rih's lead single from her next album, dropping November 21. Produced by dance mastermind Calvin Harris, the tune was released last week via the singer's Facebook page and has rocketed to the #3 spot on the iTunes singles chart. In the "We Found Love" single art, Rihanna sports a retro, TLC-inspired outfit.

Former No Limit MC says, 'My star is still out there in the stratosphere.'

Mystikal has more to celebrate these days. Not only is the New Orleans rapper expecting the birth of a baby boy, the Tarantula has new music on the way and just turned 41 years old. It hasn't always been smooth sailing for Mystikal, who was released from prison in January 2010 after a six-year incarceration stemming from charges of sexual battery, extortion and failing to file tax returns. But Thursday, Mystikal was all smiles as he performed at his own birthday bash at the Sha-La club in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

"I'm in the process of rebranding everything," he told MTV News. "My star is still out there in the stratosphere; I just gotta get the spiderwebs off of it and shine it back up. That's it — simple as that."

Part of that process is getting back in the studio. Though he hasn't released an album since 2001, last year Mystikal hooked up with former Cash Money producer Mannie Fresh, and the two have been slowly cooking up new material.

"We been working. Last couple of weeks, we been coming with some monsters in that studio," Mystikal said before describing his plan for 2011: "I still gotta give them that vintage me, because that's what I am, but I found a way to kinda bring it up to speed and still be contemporary."

Not that Mystikal is ignoring his legacy in the slightest. The former No Limit star performed a string of hits Thursday. "That wasn't really a whole bunch of new material, that was vintage Mystikal," he said. "It just reminds them of a moment in time when things were alright. Everybody remember that moment when "Here I Go" or "Shake it Fast" or "Make 'Em Say Uhh" — they remember that."

Real Spit: Killa Kyleon may still be making a name for himself in rap, but the Houston MC is no rookie.

The seasoned Southern spitter got his start running alongside Big Pokey, Chris Ward and DJ Screw's Screwed Up Click, before really making an impact with Slim Thug's group Boss Hogg Outlawz. It's his gruff vocal tone, butter flow and hard-nosed lyrics that make Killa Kyleon a fan favorite. On his latest mixtape, Candy Paint N Texas Plates 2, Killa puts it all on display.

With the tape's 21 soul-drenched tracks, Killa Ky hooks up with notable producers like Lex Luger, Cookin' Soul and Cy Frye to lay his sound bed. On "Top Down," Killa spits over a dreamy loop that incorporates a small sample from the Notorious B.I.G.'s 1995 song "Who Shot Ya," so it's only right that Kyleon tries his hand over the classic Biggie beat on the next track.

His inspiration isn't all rap. On "Bodies Hit the Floor," Killa recruits Bun B and producer Lex Luger to add a hip-hop twist to Drowning Pool's 2001 metal track "Bodies." It doesn't stop there: On "Hustler's Prayer," Big K.R.I.T. samples Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive" as Ky goes in lyrically against his rap competitors. ("Lyin' about they real on these records in front of cameramen/ Run a background check, them n---as fake as mannequins."

Mac Miller joins in on "Come on Baby," and "Letter to Pimp C" is a heartfelt dedication track to the fallen UGK pioneer. Whether from the Deep South, Northeast or West Coast, Killa Kyleon's Candy Paints & Texas Plates 2 has something for every hip-hop fan.

Joints to Check For
» "Bodies Hit the Floor." "We did a rendition of the track ['Bodies'] by Drowning Pool," Killa said. "We took that, put a little street flip on it, man, put a little Texas style with it, added a little flavor with the homeboy Lex Luger."

» "Who Shot Ya." "It's my remix of Notorious B.I.G.'s 'Who Shot Ya,' " Ky said. "I just wanted to pay a little bit of homage to the big homey. That's one of my favorite rappers, one of my favorite top two rappers in the game. I just wanted to take the track, do my little flip on it, man."

Mac Miller Recruits Bro For <i>Blue Slide Park</i> Art

'I knew I wanted to do something with it that was more than just a picture of me,' Pittsburgh MC tells MTV News.
By Rob Markman

Oh to be a kid again! For his debut album, Blue Slide Park, Mac Miller is paying homage to his childhood stomping grounds of Pittsburgh. The LP cover is a simple, child-like rendition of the playground, drawn by the rapper's (born Malcolm McCormick) older brother, whose first name is actually Miller.

"I knew I wanted to do something with it that was more than just a picture of me," Mac told MTV News.

"Blue Slide Park is a park in Pittsburgh we grew up at," Miller explained to us about the album title's significance. "Being 2, going down slides and then being 6, playing Little League and hanging out there, then being older, coming back there to drink and smoke and party, running from the cops. And now going back there just to chill out and drink a beer."

When Mac and his Most Dope team were seeking inspiration for the artwork, they consulted Google and came across a young girl's drawing, which they eventually used as a basis for the cover design. "We came across this 8-year-old's drawing and we were like, 'Yo, that is like the most simple but incredible thing ever; it's right to the point,' " he recalled. "Basically, the point is making something simple that can represent the whole idea. You look at it and it doesn't look like a park, but you know that's that Blue Slide Park."

The Blue Slide Cover is more Bob Ross than Rick Ross in its design. Deviating from more standard hip-hop cover art, the BSP front panel features a painting of multicolored triangles, with a big blue line right down the middle.

To execute his vision, rather than go with famed hip-hop photogs like Jonathan Mannion or Danny Clinch, Mac recruited his big brother. "He's always worked on art as long as I can remember," Mac said. "He draws all the time and he's getting into graphic design. If I can have my brother work on something for it, that's great."

Mac Miller's Blue Slide Park is due in stores November 8.

On October 15, Drake will make his "Saturday Night Live" debut in an episode hosted by Anna Faris.

NBC made the announcement Monday (September 26), also revealing that Ben Stiller and musical guest Foster the People are booked for the October 8 show. Drake's appearance will come just before the release of his sophomore effort, Take Care, which hits stores October 24 (also his birthday). It also marks the second time a Young Money artist has graced the late-night sketch show this year; Nicki Minaj served as musical guest back in February.

News of Drizzy's "SNL" gig comes just days after the rapper took to his October's Very Own blog to unveil his Take Care LP artwork. In addition to the visual, Drake also wrote a short note to his fans, in which he admitted his anticipation about finally dropping the project.

"Feels like it's been so long," he wrote, before asking a series of questions about awaiting special moments. "Maybe our anticipation is justified by the fact that we genuinely cannot wait to share a moment again? Either way, your life and mine are scheduled to meet on October 24 ... I wouldn't miss it for the world."

Drake told MTV News early this month that the LP's lead single, "Headlines," was the perfect tune to launch the project. "I think it's great; the purpose of that record was solely to deliver a message," he said. "I could've gone with the record that was sort of super radio-friendly, but I really just wanted to talk to the people with the first record."

"Headlines" is just one of many tunes the OVOXO star has released to appease fans' appetites. Just a few weeks ago, the hip-hop heavyweight dropped even more new material, including "Club Paradise," "Free Spirit" and a remix of Waka Flocka Flame's "Round of Applause."

Anne Hathaway's Full Catwoman Costume Revealed

Latest photo of actress in 'Dark Knight Rises' gear shows lots of leather, dangerously high heels and a curious set of ears.

Where are Catwoman's ears? And what's up with her eyewear, perhaps more reminiscent of BluBlockers than something a Gotham City villain would rock?

Those were among our first questions in August when we checked out the first official photo of Anne Hathaway in character. Newly published paparazzi pics from the Los Angeles set of "The Dark Knight Rises," however, might deliver answers to both of those geeky queries. The new shots appear to suggest Catwoman's glasses flip up to create ear-like points above her head. Function and form!

For a full analysis of the new Catwoman costume, click here.

In a sense, then (and if this hypothesis is correct), Hathaway's full costume was on display back in August, just not in a recognizable or complete form. The glasses-into-ears theory appears to be a more logical one than another bit of superhero speculation out there: that Catwoman's mask, based on those hollow-looking ears and some similar design lines, is actually Batman's mask, artfully mangled. While Hathaway's character clearly does a bit of borrowing (or, more likely, stealing) from Bruce Wayne, as in the photo where she rides his Batpod, we're not sold on the similarity between each mask.

The rest of the costume, as revealed in the new photos, is largely what we've already seen: lots of tight leather and a pair of dangerously high-heel boots; we can understand why Hathaway has previously cracked that she is living on kale and dust, just so she can slip into the ensemble. According to Hathaway, the collective reaction to the first look at her Catwoman costume — including in some corners within the MTV Newsroom — was a resounding, "Meh." But the actress also promised us that we've only seen "about a tenth of what that suit can do."

Perhaps her transforming ears — if that's what they really are — represent a few more percentage points. With the rapid pace of photos coming from the "Dark Knight" set, we'll undoubtedly get even more soon.

Lily Collins Is Our New Class' 'Ass-Kicking Girl Next Door'

With 'Mortal Instruments' and 'Snow White' still to come, the badass-yet-relatable actress is destined for mega-fame.
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Kara Warner

Lily Collins
Photo: MTV News

We called it way back in January: Lily Collins was an actress to watch in 2011.

At that point, her career was just heating up following a turn as Sandra Bullock's daughter in "The Blind Side." An impressive series of castings in high-profile films followed: "Priest," "Abduction" opposite Taylor Lautner and an adaptation of the best-selling YA series "The Mortal Instruments." A few months later, she landed the role of Snow White in Relativity Media's Julia Roberts-starring take on the fairy tale.

Collins is making good on our predictions, which is why we've selected her as part of our New Class — a collection of young talent about to rise to the top of Hollywood, including her "Mortal Instruments" co-star Jamie Campbell Bower. With her badass-yet-relatable roles, Collins is our New Class' "Ass-Kicking Girl Next Door."

Though she's had all of 2011 to get used to the spotlight, the whole celebrity thing continues to feel odd.

"It feels very surreal," she told us at the "Abduction" red carpet. "It's weird getting out of a car and people are saying my name. It's still a weird concept to me."

Give her time. Collins told us she'd like to model her career after Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet or Meryl Streep. "I like that none of them have stuck themselves in a box," she said. "They've done all sorts of roles — comedic, dramatic, they've gone from indies to big motion pictures. I love their choices."

And she's a fan of the New Class itself, which includes not only Bower, but Emma Watson, Josh Hutcherson, Julianne Hough and Nina Dobrev.

"It's an honor to be placed in the New Class of actors," Collins said. "I'm doing what I love, and I'm having the best time."

This may not come as a shock to anyone who's marveled at her multitasking ways, but just four months after the release of her Born This Way album, says she's already working on the follow-up, which she says will be released "sooner rather than later."

That's what she told Ryan Seacrest just before the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas, adding that the new disc is just one of many projects she's juggling at the moment.

"I'm actually already working on my next album," she said. "So I've been working on that. I've been planning the next tour, which keeps me very excited and busy because I have lots of new ideas, and I know exactly how I want it to look. I'm also planning my next music video. I have lots of things to do, but in truth, I feel like I'm the most alive when I'm onstage."

And while there's still no release date (or any concrete information) on Gaga's next album, her manager, Troy Carter, recently suggested that, if he has his way, Gaga might give the record away for free.

Check out photos of Lady Gaga and others at the iHeartRadio festival.

"If it was up to me, I'd give away the next album and put it on every handset that I can put it on," Carter said last week at the f8 conference in San Francisco. "You can't be scared to fail. Sometimes we're going to get big results, and sometimes you learn a lesson, make an adjustment and move on."

Gaga made waves back in May with the multitude of methods she promoted Born This Way, including a much-discussed 99-cent pricing scheme with Amazon.com, which temporarily crashed the site.

A spokesperson for Gaga's label could not be reached for comment by MTV News about the new album.

Justin Bieber Rents Staples Center For Date With Selena Gomez

Justin Bieber may only be 17, but the kid has crazy mature boyfriend skills when it comes to doing special things for his girl Selena Gomez. Case in point: The dynamic duo went out for a decent-enough date on Friday night to see Gomez's pal Demi Lovato play a show at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.

Then, according to TMZ, he surprised Gomez after the concert with an even bigger show right next door at the Staples Center, the 20,000-seat home of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Check out photos of Justin and Selena.

After 11 p.m., Bieber told Gomez, "follow me," and the pair walked through an underground tunnel that connects the two arenas. As they walked into the empty building, all Gomez saw was a table for two set up on the floor with a steak and pasta dinner from the venue's fancy restaurant, the Lexus Club.

How much would a private Staples Center date set Justin Bieber back? We crunched the numbers!

The major date was inspired by a scene in the Adam Sandler flick "Mr. Deeds," in which Sandler's character surprises his love interest, Winona Ryder, with a date for two at Madison Square Garden. After the superstar couple's meal, things got even more romantic when "Titanic" began playing on a screen in the arena.

According to reports, Bieber got the venue for free as a thank-you from the bosses at Staples for his string of three previous sell-outs there. After making things way harder for his fellow man with his big-balling gesture, Biebs had a message for all the dudes out there who aren't pulling their weight when it comes to the chivalry department. "Romance isn't dead," he tweeted after his date. "Treat your lady right fellas."

Easy for you to say, dude.

What do you think of Justin's date idea for Selena? Tell us in the comments!

Britney Spears Under Fire For Carrying Gun In 'Criminal' Video

Britney Spears is packing heat in her new "Criminal" video, and that's landed her in hot water with U.K. politicians.

Earlier this month, Spears filmed scenes for the video in and around London, including one in which she flees a building in the borough of Hackney while clutching a pistol. And for a community still scarred from the August riots that spread across the nation, that crossed a line.

Britney Spears responds to the "Criminal" video controversy.

"I think she should apologize and make a sizeable donation to a Hackney charity that deals with young people, in compensation for the rudeness and damage that she's done to our community," borough Councilor Ian Rathbone told the ITV news program "London Tonight."

"It is only a music video, but it's images like this, with pop stars glamorizing gangs, which means that some young people ... get drawn in," Hackney's Member of Parliament, Diane Abbott, added. "Britney should really know better."

Even more concerning was the fact that, according to the Hackney Council, which okayed the video shoot, there was no mention of a gun being used in the "Criminal" production. If there had been, the Council says, Spears and co. most certainly would not have been allowed to film in the borough's recently restored Stoke Newington Town Hall.

"In this case we did not agree that a replica gun could be used at Stoke Newington Town Hall and we are disappointed," the Council said in a statement to "London Tonight." "We will be raising this matter with the production company."

Spears announced that "Criminal" would be her next single backstage at the Video Music Awards, and she has been promoting it with the release of artwork and a new remix album over the past few weeks.

A spokesperson for the singer could not be reached for comment on the "Criminal" controversy by press time.

Jamie Campbell Bower Is Our New Class' 'Next Johnny Depp'

'Johnny Depp has always been a massive inspiration for me,' 'Breaking Dawn' actor tells MTV News.

Jamie Campbell Bower has already been swept up in the frenzy of two of Hollywood's biggest franchises ever, "Twilight" and "Harry Potter." At 22, he's settled for nothing less than A-list flicks, including "Sweeney Todd," "RocknRolla" and playing King Arthur in the miniseries "Camelot."

Thanks to his gypsy style and diverse résumé that includes films both big and small, Bower has been named "Most Likely to Be the Next Johnny Depp" by MTV Movies' New Class Yearbook. And with one Tim Burton film already under his belt, Bower is well on his way to following in the footsteps of the man who's made pirates oh so cool.

But it's what Bower is set to do next that's really going to keep the upward momentum of his career going. In addition to the closing out of the "Twilight" franchise in the next year with roles in "Breaking Dawn" parts 1 and 2, the actor will gear up to star in "The Mortal Instruments" alongside Lily Collins.

He's also a man who can mix it up and star in a period piece like next month's "Anonymous," which centers on the theory that Edward de Vere, earl of Oxford, actually wrote Shakespeare's plays. MTV's Josh Horowitz sat down with Bower recently to discuss all that's in store for the actor.

MTV: This is, like, your time. You have some really cool opportunities right now. Does it feel like this is what you've been working toward?

Jamie Campbell Bower: Well, yes. Being able to do lead roles in pictures or onstage or whatever it is that you're doing in acting is obviously what you strive for because you want to better yourself as an actor and you want to better yourself as a person as well. But that does come with a lot of responsibility and a great deal of weight. At the moment, I'm incredibly nervous and I hope I just don't f--- it up.

MTV: Your ["Mortal Instruments"] audition — I want to hear from you. Did it feel like you embraced Jace?

Bower: This was a big deal for me and so I did a lot of preparation. I sent an email out asking what the character would wear, how he would dress, and I really focused on it. I was constantly, constantly, constantly looking at the lines and looking at the words and trying to nail who this guy was. They've taken a bit of, not a risk, but to put their trust in me and give me that role is very humbling.

MTV: Are we going to see much of you in "Breaking Dawn: Part 1"?

Bower: "Breaking Dawn: Part 1"? You'll see a bit of us [the Volturi]. We're around. "Part 2" is sort of where we really "throw down," would be the correct terminology? "Part 1," for us, is a lot of menacing set dressing. I am the best out-of-focus actor that you've ever seen, aren't I?

MTV: Is there a career to emulate?

Bower: You know, Johnny Depp has always been a massive inspiration for me and he's somebody who has produced an incredible amount of work, and every single piece that he does is amazing. And he also very cleverly manages to stay himself and very much shy away from the limelight, where it could have been very easy for him to put himself in a position where his friends and his family were in danger. And that's a scary thought. I think that's the main thing, to keep focused. It's a job at the end of the day and you have a responsibility to the people you're making the film for.

Just days after once again speaking out against bullying, Lady Gaga dedicated a moving version of "Hair" to teen Jamey Rodemeyer at the iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas on Saturday. The gay teen committed suicide last week after enduring years of bullying by his school peers, inspiring Gaga to tweet that she was going to meet with President Obama to encourage him to pass legislation outlawing bullying.

Following up on her promise, Gaga attended an Obama fundraiser in Los Angeles over the weekend, where a source told MTV News last week that she was expected to bring up the topic if the two were able to get a moment together. According to The Associated Press, Gaga was among the guests at an intimate Sunday night gathering at the home of Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg, wearing a sleeveless gown and high heels. A spokesperson for Gaga had not returned requests for comment at press time inquiring about whether the meeting of the minds had taken place.

The two-night iHeartRadio festival unfolded at the MGM Grand in Vegas and featured sets from Jay-Z, the Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Bruno Mars, Coldplay, Alicia Keys, David Guetta, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez and Usher.

"We lost a Little Monster this week," Gaga said of the 14-year-old Rodemeyer during the show, as a picture of the teen was shown on a screen onstage. "I wrote this record about how your identity is really all you've got when you're in school ... so tonight, Jamey, I know you're up there looking at us, and you're not a victim ... you're a lesson to all of us. I know it's a bit of a downer, but sometimes the right thing is more important than the music."

The Amherst Police Department has opened a criminal investigation into Rodemeyer's death and is considering harassment, cyberharassment and hate crimes charges against a number of teens who may have been involved in bullying Jamey.

Jay-Z Teases Concert Series At Nets' Brooklyn Arena

BK's finest reveals he'll celebrate NBA team's September 2012 move with 'a couple of concerts.'

Hello Brooklyn! Jay-Z plans to return home to Brooklyn, New York, after the brand-new Barclays Center arena opens in September 2012 and perform a string of concerts to celebrate.

The Daily News is reporting that Hov will perform eight shows next fall at Barclays. The rapper appeared live from the arena's construction site for an interview with local Fox 5's "Good Day New York" on Monday (September 26) to talk about the performances. He also formally announced that the New Jersey Nets will officially be known as the Brooklyn Nets when the NBA team moves into the arena next year.

"It's great," Hov said of the move to BK. "I have a reason to come to Brooklyn often, which is fantastic for me because this is my foundation."

Jay started out as an underground rapper in the borough's Marcy Projects back in the 1980s and once lived in the area's 560 State Street. Hov, of course, went from rap star to music mogul to fashion designer to minority owner of the NBA Nets. So when Jay and Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov bring the team to Brooklyn, who better to christen Barclays than Hov himself? "I'm going to open the building with a concert — or a couple of concerts, actually," he said, without actually confirming the number of shows. It's going to be more than about basketball; it's an entertainment arena."

The "Empire State of Mind" performer also noted that the new sports and entertainment complex has already created jobs and will continue to create jobs once it is opened. Fox News reporter Rosanna Scotto pressed on, changed the subject and asked the father-to-be the sex of his and Beyoncé's baby. "I'm not going to say, of course," Jay responded with a coy smile, although he did confirm that he and his wife already know the baby's sex.

Turning the conversation back to his beloved borough, Jay referenced a famous lyric from the Notorious B.I.G.'s 1994 hit "Juicy." "It's deep love," the God MC said of his admiration for BK. "Biggie had a line, 'Spread love, it's the Brooklyn way.' It's just how we feel, it's a deep love we have for our heroes."

Kelly Clarkson shows off her many sides — sexy, glam, fun and playful, to name a few — in the brand-new, Justin Francis-directed music video for "Mr. Know It All."

The video, which dropped Monday (September 26), is a mixture of sleek performance footage and glamour shots, which play up the many personality traits of the Stronger singer. The clip even features a little something called "the Wall of Doubt," which uses real, occasionally negative headlines that have been printed about the singer.

But her favorite scene, as she told MTV News, is one where she looks super glammed up in a massive gown. "There's different sides of me, and that whole outfit was more for all the freeing aspect," she explained. "Like, there's all these different sides of you, and that was the free-spirit side of me. That's one of my favorite shots in the video. It keeps coming back to my hair everywhere."

However, the girl in that shot doesn't tell Clarkson's full story. "I think there's that free-spirit side of me, and then there's that feisty performer in me," she continued. "Then there's the funny side of me. I mean, obviously you have to be funny to have a big giant wall of doubt with actual headlines of your life on the wall. It's a little fun, a little feisty."

The lead single from her October release, Stronger, was a late addition. "It was actually the last song we recorded, and we had already finished it up," she said of "Mr. Know It All." "That song came out of nowhere. And luckily it did, because everybody fell in love with it.

"I think why I was attracted to it was, first of all, every girl has probably dated that guy, and also just in work life, I've known a lot of those people — especially in this industry," she continued. "And people that try and pigeonhole you. I think I was just attracted to that idea of being a little sassy and feisty with that message."

The track was written by Brett James (Carrie Underwood), Ester Dean (Beyoncé, Usher) and Dante Jones. Brian Kennedy (Chris Brown, Rihanna, Backstreet Boys) also co-wrote and produced the track.

Alicia Keys has been hard at work on a new album, and she was eager to offer fans something to hold them over at this weekend's much-hyped iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas, which also featured sets from Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj and Coldplay.

Click for photos from the iHeartRadio festival.

"I've been in the studio working on some new music, and I thought tonight would be the perfect night to play something new for you," the singer said during her Friday set. "Is it OK for me to play something brand-new? Yes, let's do it."

The R&B songstress then delivered "A Place of My Own," an uplifting, piano-driven tune about building up the courage to overcome struggles and find happiness. Despite some hoarse vocals, Keys did her best to perform the cut and continue on with her set list, which included hits like "Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart," "Unthinkable" and, of course, "Empire State of Mind" with special guest Jay-Z.

" 'Cause I'm lookin' for a place to call my own/ I'm lookin' for a house to make a home/ I'm lookin' for a seat upon a throne/ I'm lookin' for a place to call my own," the singer belted alongside her live band.

Keys had earlier taken to her Twitter to share her excitement over the two-day music fest, writing, "Summer n vegas! 2nights show is gonna b insane!! Kinda wish I was n the audience! ;-) the @iHeartRadio Music Festival!"

Earlier this summer, Keys' husband and musical collaborator Swizz Beatz teased even more new music when he gushed to MTV News about a potential duet between Keys and British belter Adele.

"I just thought that, man, this would be a great moment for both of them, because they have amazing styles and they both respect each other," he explained. "They're fans of each other. So let's make this good for music."
