Demi Lovato 'Figuring It Out' On Unbroken

Demi Lovato proudly declares herself Unbroken on her just-released album, saying the record, especially lead single "Skyscraper," is reflective of her need to be "honest about my journey" since leaving treatment earlier this year and heading back into the spotlight.

Since Lovato announced the album's release, the headlines have certainly shifted from the personal back to the professional as she launches this next major step in her career. The album is a mix of empowering ballads and flirty party tracks, a combination Lovato hopes will help her ease into that next phase.

"I think it's grown-up, but it's not too grown-up," Lovato told MTV News. "It's not tasteless. It's growing up with my fans. It's [like] I'm not a kid anymore, but I'm also not a full-grown woman either. So I'm in that in-between stage, trying to figure out where that is. So I'm figuring it out, just like my fans are."

In the past, Lovato's music touched more on rock than R&B. Thanks to production and writing credits from A-listers like Timbaland, Missy Elliott, Rock Mafia, Ryan Tedder and Toby Gad, Lovato is trying out a much more pop&B flavor that plays up her big voice, a shift she's excited for her fans to hear.

"This album is definitely more pop," she said. "It's definitely more R&B. It's not so pop/rock anymore. I grew up listening to R&B, [and] I guess my rock thing was kind of like a phase."

This change in genre isn't the end for Lovato's evolution as an artist by any means. "I like to experiment with my music," she said. "Someday, I joke around, but I'm actually pretty serious about coming out with a country album. I want to do everything. I love music and I love all types of music, and I love where this album went."

'Dancing With The Stars': Kristin Cavallari And Chaz Bono Impress

Chynna Phillips and J.R. Martinez tie for top score on season 13 premiere.

In a brand-new ballroom, the 13th season of "Dancing With the Stars" kicked off Monday night (September 19). The newest stars walked down a new, elegant series of stars to the ballroom and waved at the crowd in the ornate -- and significantly larger -- ballroom and shimmied as live singers hummed the reality-show competition's now-familiar theme song. The mix of reality stars, athletes, actors, TV journalists and talk-show hosts took to the dance floor to attempt to impress the judges and legions of TV fans who will be tuning in to vote to keep them dancing week-after-week.

To the scores!

Ron Artest and Peta Murgatroyd
A newly blond Artest (though we may soon be calling him Metta World Peace, the name he legally adopted last week) failed to impress the judges. "It's a new season, we've got a new set, but it's the same old shimmying-about stuff," head judge Len Goodman told the Lakers star. "Your footwork was atrocious. It was all sizzle, no sausage. It was ... not my cup of tea." His comments were booed by the audience (Artest's teammate Lamar Odom was in the audience with wife Khloé Kardashian and sisters-in-law Kourtney and Kim, seeing as their brother is a contestant this year). "Ron, the dancer drone has landed! You have power. You have presence. So go for it, Dancer-Tron!" judge Bruno Tonioli yelled. Carrie Ann Inaba wasn't irked by Artest's cha-cha but said it needed work. "You're eccentric and kind of sexy! It works on the dance floor. Cha-cha's a sexy dance. The technique ... was like a big old puddle on the ground." 14/30

Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke
The reality star danced the Viennese waltz for his first dance of the season. The first judge to take a crack at him was Tonioli, who wasn't happy with what Kardashian turned in. "I know she's a tough mistress, but ... let her go. You have to take control. You've got to relax," Tonioli said. (Khloé Kardashian yelled something out to the judge about needing Q-Tips after Tonioli said her brother couldn't hear the music.) Inaba wasn't quite onboard with Bruno's critique. "When I watch you, I see potential. You did everything Cheryl told you ... but it's all there. The posture, the lines, the debonair. Yeah. You clean up nice!" Goodman chimed in: "I'm not impressed, but I'm not depressed. It was OK. An OK will get you through a couple of weeks. You were too careful." 16/30

Kristin Cavallari and Mark Ballas
The former MTV bad girl (she insisted she wasn't the "bitch" viewers saw on "The Hills") said this competition was right on time for her, considering she's had a rough year, including a broken engagement. The two danced the cha-cha, and the judges loved her performance. "You have the body to ballroom-dance, girlfriend! You looked great," Inaba said. "I want to watch you dance more and more. You shine. You sparkle. It was a very good cha-cha, and it's hard to keep up with Mark. He gives you very challenging choreography, and you have to keep up with him." The hard-to-please Goodman said he was a fan just watching her rehearsal footage. "It was lively and there was lots going on, which I think is great," he said. Tonioli told the former "Laguna Beach" star: "You know I love a bad girl; a bad girl with hot hips. I know you've got the full package to give that action." 19/30

Chynna Phillips and Tony Dovolani
Goodman smiled before he was asked to speak, indicating that he was very pleased with the performance. "It wasn't the best first dance I've ever seen, but I'll tell you what: It was close!" Goodman said. Tonioli gushed, "Chynna, you looked like you were stepping out of a dream and into my heart. You've got the talent and you can do it!" Inaba was also happy with the dance, saying, "That was gorgeous. You are such a graceful dancer. Everything was perfection. You had a few nervous moments, but other than that, that was magical. I can't wait to see you next week." 22/30

Nancy Grace and Tristan MacManus
The former prosecutor and HLN talk-show host danced the cha-cha in a shimmery silver short dress, sashaying all over the floor. "Nancy, I had no idea you were so lavishly gifted. You've got the moves, but you don't seem to believe in yourself. You have it," Tonioli said. Inaba added: "I think you might be the happiest contestant I've ever seen out there dancing. You have to remember your choreography." And tough critic Goodman said, "You've got to get balance. You didn't have any flair and attack. It was all ... underwhelming." 16/30

David Arquette and Kym Johnson
The actor was beloved by the judges and his estranged wife, Courteney Cox, who applauded and cheered in the audience with the couple's daughter, CoCo. "All you need to do is relax a little," Inaba said of his Viennese waltz. Goodman said, "There was no superficial start or messing about. You came straight out into the dance, and I was very, very impressed." Tonioli added: "You did look the part! The romantic leading man." 18/30

Elisabetta Canalis and Val Chmerkovskiy
The Italian actress/model and TV host didn't do much to impress the judges. "It got very brittle. You lost confidence, and it all became too weak," Goodman told her, also saying that he didn't really care for the use of over-the-top props in performances. Tonioli said, "You cannot always rely on him to put you into place. There is a journey there to make." Inaba suggested she reach back to what she knows best to help her moving forward: "You have to channel the model in you ... and you have to do it with the music." 15/30

Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy
The soccer star wowed judges with her first dance. Tonioli said, "You've got a bright future in front of you. You've got a great drive. Now you have to learn control." Inaba told the duo they were "connected like glue and that was wonderful! Your lines are really gorgeous!" Goodman echoed both the cheers and the bit of criticism (mostly that she needed to soften up a little), saying, "Good hold, good posture, lovely movement. I don't want to sound like a broken record, but ... you have to get a bit more feminine in your movement." 21/30

Carson Kressley and Anna Trebunskaya
Kressley and his partner made the judges very happy with their energetic cha-cha routine. "That was my favorite dance of the night by far! You are something else. I cannot get over all of the sparkles!" Inaba cheered. "As far as performance goes ... bam!" Goodman said. "There was an element of Jagger, swagger and stagger. You were such great entertainment. You were fun." Tonioli agreed, saying, "It was ... outrageous fun." 17/30

J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff
The war hero-turned-actor did the Viennese waltz and tied for the highest score of the night with Chynna. "You danced the performance that's right up there with the best performances of the night. You were right up there," Goodman said. Tonioli added, "You've got courage ... and you've got the hips. I can't believe for someone who has never danced before how well you did it." Inaba also was impressed, saying, "I was absolutely touched by your performance. You're able to bring emotional quality to your dance on day one. It's beautiful to see that confidence." 22/30

Ricki Lake and Derek Hough
The former talk-show host grabbed a nice score from the judges. "There was great chemistry. Another great Viennese waltz!" Tonioli cheered. Inaba loved the way the duo moved together, saying, "It was like you were part of one person. It was beautiful. Very, very nice." Goodman said, "Your footwork, I don't know what was going on with your feet. But elegant, lovely movement and fluidity. Overall, I enjoyed it very much." 20/30

Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer
Naturally, the last couple to take to the dance floor was the much-talked-about Bono, who is the show's first transgender performer. His presence on the show has been blogged, tweeted and chatted about on political talk shows, and it was thought to be one of the top performances of the night. "I think people have been waiting all night to see you, Chaz, and you do not disappoint! You can dance! You had great footwork. You've got so much joy. You light up this room," Inaba cheered. Goodman also was a fan, saying, "You really came out with the right attitude. You came out to enjoy yourself, and that's what I felt you did." Tonioli said: "You're so joyous out here. Great debut, Chaz. You should be proud!" 17/30

Nirvana Had 'No Regrets' About Nevermind

Posted: 19 Sep 2011 04:43 AM PDT

Our Nevermind You Never Knew 20th-anniversary coverage continues with part two of a three-part look back at Nirvana in their own words.
By James Montgomery

Nirvana's Kurt Cobain in 1993

"Nevermind was definitely an album we wanted to make. ... We have no regrets, other than maybe the production was too slick."

That was Kurt Cobain in December 1993, after the initial impact of Nirvana's sophomore album had subsided, and the band was trying to slip effortlessly into the promotional cycle for its follow-up, In Utero.

Of course, it went about as well as you would expect. Such is often the case when a band attempts to move on from the shadow of a monolithic, moment-seizing record: It's difficult to talk about anything else.

When it was released, no one had any idea of what Nevermind would eventually become. In fact, in the Geffen offices, they were hoping it'd sell maybe 250,000 copies, and as such, shortages in record stores were common in the months following its release.

But, as you're probably aware by now, the album far exceeded initial expectations (it's since sold more than 30 million copies worldwide), and, in the 20 years since its release, Nevermind has gone on to become an album that not only lends itself to being mythologized, but deserves it as well.

And yet, the album didn't become a household name overnight. It slowly (almost methodically) ascended the charts, finally overtaking Michael Jackson's Dangerous atop the Billboard albums chart in January 1992. And when it did, it signified not only the changing of the guard, but a new era for music. It was a rare moment: A good band was also the most popular. And 20 years later, we're still marveling at that fact.

But, again, Nevermind lends itself to mythology. And with its 20th anniversary just around the corner, we suspect you'll be subject to no shortage of it. So rather than add another anecdote (or 10) to the pile, we figured it would be best to tell the story of Nirvana in the words of the people who knew it best: the band itself.

We've spent the past few weeks mining the MTV News archives to find our definitive Nirvana moments — not just the iconic interviews, but the behind-the-scenes nuggets that show the band as they truly were: funny, irreverent and just a little uncomfortable with their newfound fame (a fact they'd go to great lengths to prove with In Utero).

Earlier Monday (September 19), we published Nirvana's take on their early years, and now, we're going to give you their view on everything that happened in the year following the release of Nevermind.

Here, now, is a band at the epicenter of a true revolution, trying to make sense of everything that happens while, at the same time, attempting to remain true to the scene that birthed them. That struggle is just one of many reasons why, 20 years after they burst into the world, Nirvana remains one of the most fascinating rock bands of all time.

Stick with MTV News all week as we reveal the Nevermind You Never Knew, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's definitive album with classic footage, new interviews and much more.

It's wedding bells and baby booties for Ne-Yo. The "Closer" singer is engaged to longtime girlfriend Monyetta Shaw, and the happy couple are expecting their second child together.

According to Us Weekly, the baby announcement was kept under wraps for most of Shaw's pregnancy. A source told the mag the baby is expected as early as October, which is just two weeks away.

Despite being busy with her pregnancy, Shaw has also been working on a new boutique in Atlanta called Emerlyn & Ester, set to open soon in the city's upscale Buckhead District.

Ne-Yo (real name: Shaffer Chimere Smith) welcomed his first child, daughter Madilyn Grace, back in November 2010 and was ecstatic about becoming a father. "Feels like I'm in luv for the first time," he tweeted at the time. "Welcoming that lil' girl to the world last night defined for me what 'willing to kill and die for' truly means. My world, my life, all hers."

The couple have not revealed when they plan to marry.

The last time we checked in with Ne-Yo, the exuberant 31-year-old's mind was on music and his showstopping VMA performance of "Give Me Everything" with Pitbull.

"This is my first time performing at the VMAs, so this is going to be big," he promised. "This was the show where, before I made it, where I was like, 'When I make it, yeah, I definitely got to do that one.' And I'm here. I'm happy. I'm definitely beyond happy. I'm gonna maintain; very ecstatic to be here."

After celebrating the one-year anniversary of "RapFix Live" in grand fashion, MTV News' live hip-hop show returns for year two with Freeway on Wednesday.

Last week, Lloyd Banks, Maino, Diplomats capo Jim Jones, Consequence, the Outlawz, Reek Da Villian, Superstar Jay and DJ Love Dinero all crashed the couch and toasted to "RapFix Live" and the year that was. Now, Philadelphia MC Freeway will set off year two. In 2003, Free dropped his debut album on Roc-A-Fella Records and, in the label's heyday, stood as one of the Roc's most loyal soldiers. Through his career, Philly Freezer has earned a rep as one of the game's most-skilled spitters, going head-to-head with rappers like Cassidy and Jaz-O.

Post-Roc-A-Fella, the State Property MC carried on, releasing his sophomore album, Free At Last (though the record technically came out on the Roc, Jay-Z and Damon Dash had long disbanded), as well as a number of critically acclaimed independent projects like The Stimulus Package with producer Jake One.

While a Roc reunion is highly unlikely, Freeway and his State Property brothers came together for a concert this past July and are now planning a comeback project. "When we got together, we had our meeting, our initial conversation about doing what we thought was necessary for us and for music, for everybody's careers as State Property the group and solo careers," Beanie Sigel said when he appeared on "RapFix Live" in July.

Tweet questions for Freeway @MTVNews with the hashtag #RapFixLive.

Catch Freeway on "RapFix Live" on Wednesday, September 21, at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com!

Coldplay Call Rihanna Collabo 'Favorite Bit' On Mylo Xyloto

Band talked to MTV News about unexpected team-up at this weekend's Austin City Limits fest.

Last week, Coldplay made headlines when they announced they'd be teaming with Rihanna on "Princess of China," one of 14 tracks on their upcoming Mylo Xyloto album.

And while the news may have left some fans a tad, uh, puzzled, Coldplay say the collaboration was born out of a desire to keep reinventing their sound — not to mention necessity — as they told MTV News this past weekend at the Austin City Limits Festival.

"Well, our new record is sort of a story; it's not quite a musical, but it's dangerously close. There's a bit of a love-story thread, so we really needed someone to sing even higher than me," frontman Chris Martin laughed. "[It's] hard, but very possible. You need to be a female really. For all [drummer] Will [Champion]'s good intentions, he [can't do it] ...

"Can't get that high, not these days," Champion added.

"... So, in like a dream scenario, we had a song that I'd secretly kind of written to see if Rihanna would want to sing it," Martin continued. "And then the rest of the band wanted to keep it, so we came up with the idea of asking her to sing it with us, and, to our great surprise, she said OK."

And as is the case with pretty much everything on Xyloto (due October 25), "Princess of China" finds the band expanding their sonic palette and pushing musical boundaries ... which, they'll have you know, is exactly the point these days. Because, after more than a decade of albums — and sales of more than 50 million worldwide — they feel they've earned the right to try something new.

"Well, her bit on our record is my favorite bit ... when the song came out, it sort of asked for her to be on it. And I think at this point, we have nothing to lose, and so we've been trying some new things and trying to break down the perceived boundaries between different types of music," Martin explained. "Because from where we're sitting, it seems like you can try and sound any way you like nowadays. You don't have to be in a rock box or a hip-hop box or a pop box, and I think it's fun when you embrace that idea."

LMFAO Strip Down For 'Sexy And I Know It' Video

'You gotta have moves, whether it be in the bedroom [or] on the dance floor,' Redfoo tells MTV News about just-released clip.

LMFAO shuffled their way through the "Party Rock" video, and now they're hoping to make "the wiggle" the next national dance craze. The guys just dropped their video for "Sexy and I Know It," and it features lots of metallic Speedos, NSFW wiggling and a few celeb cameos.

Redfoo and Sky Blu enlisted the help of their usual Party Rock crew, as well as Simon Rex, Wilmer Valderrama and Ron Jeremy, as they dance their way through Venice Beach and a local bar proving they are sexy and they know it.

The video was shot back in late August, and MTV News caught up with LMFAO in Los Angeles as they cast extras for the video. We wanted to know: Just what is sexy?

"Sexy is confidence. It's 'I don't care what other people think, but I want them to think I'm sexy at the same time,' " Redfoo explained. "It's a Catch-22. I want to be seen. Sexy is you want attention and you gotta have moves. You gotta have moves, whether it be in the bedroom [or] on the dance floor — just the way you walk, the way you talk."

His party pal, Sky Blu, had this piece of advice for those hoping to prove their sexiness after checking out the clip: "You've got to cultivate sexy. Sexy is something that you've consciously or unconsciously throughout your life been working on. If you're in the mirror doing a little helicopter after the shower, that's sexy and I know it."

Like their previous clips, the video features lots of gyrating dance moves. "It has to become natural to the way you already move, the way you walk," Redfoo said of their dancing skillz. "It's the same smooth thang."

Jennifer Lopez Causes Man Frenzy In 'Papi' Video

Paul Hunter-directed clip finds the singer in the middle of love-struck street riot, where men from all walks of life chase after her.

If Jennifer Lopez wanted to make a post-breakup statement about her alluring charm, she sure succeeded with the "Papi" video, which debuted in its entirety on Monday (September 19).

Directed by Paul Hunter, J.Lo's just-dropped visual shows a chaotic frenzy-turned-chase, wherein the pop star attracts the attention of hoards of men as she strolls down a city street. Lopez begins the five-minute clip by chatting it up with her apartment mail attendant Lisa, confessing that her Army lover has not returned back to her. Lisa offers the singer a cookie that she claims will make "your love come back." Unfortunately, Jenny from the Block takes a chunk out of the cookie instead of a "small bite," marking the beginning of the captivating spell she unwittingly casts on every man she passes by.

The magic takes 24 hours to take effect as Lopez embarks on a walk the following day and realizes her sudden irresistible allure. Lopez's charm isn't restricted to any particular type of "papi" as she draws notice from a corporate businessman, a gardener and even a high-flying motorcyclist. Upon entering her car, her admirers become more and more aggressive and chase her down the street.

Just like many of her clips, "Papi" offers some comical choreography when the entertainer realizes that her league of men move in synch with her, offering her a way to escape. Cue the video's dance break. But Lopez's tactic doesn't last for long as the men grab hold of her until her uniform-clad lover walks off a bus and reunites with the pop star.

"The craziest thing happened," Lopez says in an attempt to explain the fiasco to her lover.

Hunter and Lopez have previously worked together on a number of videos, including "If You Had My Love," "Feelin' So Good" and "Love Don't Cost a Thing." "Papi" was produced by hit-maker RedOne and serves as the third single off J.Lo's comeback album Love? In the clip for her previous single, "I'm Into You," the pop singer hinted about the release of the club-ready track with another mid-video dance break.

Earlier this month, Lopez explained the inspiration behind the song when she called into "On-Air With Ryan Seacrest." "I was working in the studio with RedOne and his guys, and at the time, I was always kind of like, I always use the word 'papi,' " she recalled. "And they were like, 'We're going to write a song called 'Papi,' and we just wrote the song about loving somebody and just celebrating that."

Lopez is expected to make her debut performance of the dance track at the iHeartRadio Festival, which will also feature sets from Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Jay-Z and many others, later this month.

Oscar Host Eddie Murphy Will Commit '200' Percent

'He's a huge movie star. He has huge international appeal,' producer Brett Ratner tells us on Emmy Awards red carpet.

The American public may no longer be convinced about Eddie Murphy's enduring comedic gifts, based on the number of folks who purchased tickets to "Imagine That" and "Meet Dave." Even Eddie Murphy may no longer be convinced about Eddie Murphy's enduring comedic gifts. But one man with no such doubt is Brett Ratner, who is producing the 2012 Academy Awards and who has tapped Murphy to host.

"I think there's no question about it. He's the greatest," Ratner told us Sunday night at the Emmy Awards about Eddie taking on the gig and slaying the crowd. "My first idea was the show had to go in the direction of more comedy with a single host, and there's nobody better on that stage than Eddie Murphy."

"I grew up watching 'Raw' and 'Delirious' and being a big fan of him," Ratner added. "He's a huge movie star. He has huge international appeal. There's nobody better. He's a pro. The guy is a pro."

That's certainly true, even if it has been a couple of decades since Eddie's days as the foulmouthed king of the standup comedy world. Ratner, for his part, appears to be attempting to hit a sort of Eddie Murphy reset button, for years trying to kick-start another "Beverly Hills Cop" film and now coming out this fall with "Tower Heist," a flick that finds the comedian cussing and riffing like it's the '80s all over again. Perhaps for Murphy, in Ratner he trusts. Which is why, according to the filmmaker, Eddie took zero convincing to take on the Oscar gig.

"It's not the kind of job you want to convince anyone to do. They either want to do it or they don't," Ratner told us, adding that Eddie is going to commit more than 150 percent effort to the job. "200, not 150! 200!"

Lil Wayne 'Big Fan' Of Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'

'I probably felt at that time that I was rebelling and I could associate myself with that,' Weezy tells MTV News of Seattle grunge band.
By Rob Markman

Long before Lil Wayne was living his rock-star dreams onstage, he was at home — like many other kids his age — rocking out to Nirvana.

"I was a real big fan of that," Weezy told MTV News' Sway after his MTV "Unplugged" taping earlier this year.

The multiplatinum rapper — who released his first rock-inspired album Rebirth in 2010 — recalled the impact that Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl and Kurt Cobain had on him. It all started with The Box, a now-defunct cable station that was fueled by fans' phoned-in music video requests. For Wayne, it was rare to see a rock and roll video, especially one that he could identify with. " 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' was one of the only rock songs that would come on, and you'll be like, 'That one is OK, I can deal with that one,' " he recalled.

On Saturday, the Seattle grunge band's breakout album, Nevermind, turns 20. And while singles like "Come as You Are," "Lithium" and "In Bloom" helped make Nevermind a classic, it was "Smells Like Teen Spirit" that made music fans across the world take notice. Nirvana was bigger than just rock.

Maybe it was the loud guitars, the punk-style wardrobe or Cobain's long hair, but something attracted Wayne when he first saw the video as a kid in 1991. Interestingly enough, the Cash Money Billionaire now plays guitar, dresses with a punk-inspired swag and swings his long dreads onstage. But if you let Weezy tell it, it's the lyrics to "Teen Spirit" that he most identified with.

"Because I was young and I actually listened to the lyrics, and I probably felt at that time that I was rebelling and I could associate myself with that and relate to the things [Cobain] was talking about and speaking about in the song," Tunechi remembered. "I probably couldn't, but I thought I could."

Ryan Gosling: What's Next After 'Drive'?

Posted: 19 Sep 2011 08:58 AM PDT

Actor will reportedly reteam with director Nicolas Winding Refn for several projects including a possible 'Logan's Run' remake.
By Eric Ditzian

Ryan Gosling's "Drive" didn't exactly zip away from the multiplex this weekend with a hefty box-office haul, grossing only $11 million. That's a respectable sum for a Cannes darling — less high-octane thriller than slow-burning, tension-filled drama — that was always going to have trouble finding a mainstream audience.

But we certainly haven't heard the last of "Drive," which remains likely to be a player come awards season, with Gosling potentially nabbing actor nods and helmer Nicolas Winding Refn looking to pick up other wins on the heels of his Cannes directing award. Gosling, for his part, will have some serious competition ... from himself: The actor's "Ides of March" is also sure to be in the mix come the fall. Whatever happens, Gosling is going to be busy from now through awards season and far, far beyond.

"Ides Of March"

Hitting theaters in October after a festival run this month, "Ides" features Gosling as an idealistic press secretary to a charismatic Ohio governor played by George Clooney, who also wrote and directed the project. The talent in front of and behind the camera made for a buzzy debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, but a crowded field that includes the likes of Steven Spielberg, Stephen Daldry, Woody Allen and Tate Taylor (with his sleeper hit "The Help") leaves an uncertain awards-season path for "Ides."

"The Place Beyond the Pines"

Perhaps we've just got "Drive" on the mind, but this project sounds strangely similar to Gosling's latest. He stars as a motorcycle stunt driver who contemplates committing a crime to benefit his loved ones. At least he looks far different: We recently spotted Gosling on set rocking bleached blond hair and a tattoo under one eye. Co-starring Rose Byrne, Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes, there's no word yet on a release date or festival debut.

"The Gangster Squad"

Production on Ruben Fleischer's ("Zombieland") third feature kicked off earlier this month with an all-star cast in place, including Gosling, Emma Stone, Sean Penn and Josh Brolin. Set in post-World War II Los Angeles, the story focuses on the city's battles against the infiltration of the East Coast mob. Gosling plays a member of the LAPD — a suavely dressed one at that, as some early set photos made clear.

"Only God Forgives"

Gosling and Refn can't get enough of each other. Luke Evans was initially set to star in this flick about boxing and prostitution in Bangkok, but the actor had to drop out because of his commitment to the two "Hobbit" films. Gosling reportedly stepped in, with shooting expected to begin in November and an eye on a theatrical release in the second half of 2012, according to Variety.

"Logan's Run"

No, seriously: Gosling and Refn can't get enough of each other. They're planning on a remake of this 1976 sci-fi classic, with Gosling playing the starring role of a guy living in a dystopian world where no one is allowed to live past the age of 30. The project has long been in development, with directors like Bryan Singer coming and going. Fingers crossed that Gosling and Refn can succeed where others have fallen short.

Untitled Romantic Comedy

You know the drill by now: Gosling and Refn, together again. Possibly. We know precious little about this project, other than Refn wants to direct, Gosling could star and both men want "Drive" co-star Albert Brooks to pen the screenplay. Hey, we'll bite. "It's a romantic comedy set in New York, which seems like a great place to start," Refn told the Los Angeles Times.

"The Man From U.N.C.L.E."

This one is pure rumor at this point, but reports have suggested Warner Bros. is looking to pair director Steven Soderbergh with a young Hollywood star for this long-gestating adaptation of the '60s-era spy series. Gosling's name has come up alongside those of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Alexander Skarsgård. Reality? Wish list? Stay tuned.

Kanye West, Arcade Fire Make It Rain In Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — It was a weekend of epic beginnings and endings at the 10th annual Austin City Limits Festival, among them: Kanye West shut the lid on the operatic My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy tour, Coldplay played one of the final American festival dates in the run-up to the release next month of Mylo Xyloto and perhaps most importantly for locals, Texans danced in ecstasy as the worst drought in Lone Star history got a brief reprieve thanks to some intermittent showers.

Yes, there were three days of amazing music, ranging from folk to house, blues, rock, soul and hip-hop, but along with crowd-pleasing headline sets from such legends as Stevie Wonder and rockers My Morning Jacket and festival-closers Arcade Fire, what a lot of people will remember is the blessed rain.

Friday

The weekend got kicked off in style on Friday with electro rapper Theophilus London, who charmed the early afternoon crowd with the rolling pop of "Why Even Try," the hard-spitting "Last Name London" and a brand-new trunk-rattler, "Big Spender."

Most fans show up to a festival like ACL looking to rock, but fey British ambient/dubstep king James Blake made them take a chill pill, sitting at his electric piano and keyboards and crooning wordless sounds amid droney synth washes and minimal, machine beats.

Just after parched, wildfire-licked Austin got its first taste of rain in as long as anyone can remember, the Smith Westerns played some mellow humidity rock, with just enough energy to make you sway and bounce so a trickle of perspiration drips down your back during tunes like "End of the Night."

Outkast's Big Boi had no such problem, fronting a 10-piece ATL soul rap revue that got asses shaking to "Rosa Parks," a Parliament-Funkadelic-thick "Ms. Jackson," and the triple-time sprints of "Ghetto Musick" and "B.O.B."

A short time later, dynamic duo Nas and Damian Marley wound up their main-stage set with a dancehall-spiced take on papa Bob's iconic "Could You Be Loved," which spread some loving vibes as the sun finally began to set. And with a psychedelic, pulsing cityscape backdrop, DJ Pretty Lights dropped some gut-shaking deep bass samples, mixing in stoned reggae beats and looped blues wailing for a soul-soothing set of head-bobbing "dance" music you didn't have to sweat to.

Kanye didn't disappoint either, holding down the stage during all three parts of his relationship power-play ballet. He commanded the dramatically lit stage for 90 minutes, tearing through a roster of hits including "Runaway," "Power," "Jesus Walks," "Monster," Flashing Lights" and "Good Life," occasionally joined by a troupe of ballet dancers, but mostly stalking the boards alone.

Saturday
Day two dawned hazy and new wave with New York band Twin Shadow's guitar-heavy New Romantic psychedelia. VMA performers Young the Giant got an extra dose of energy from above when the skies opened up for a brief, torrential sun storm, making the most of it by pumping out their radio-friendly, impassioned rockers "Guns Out" and "Cough Syrup" to the soaked audience's delight.

Los Angeles' Fitz and the Tantrums kept the sweaty audience raindancing during such Motown-esque jams as "Rich Girls" and "Don't Gotta Work It Out," and the gut-quaking bass of wildly popular DJ Skrillex sounded like thunder across the way, as he shouted along to the party-pumping refrain of his signature tune, "My Name Is Skrillex," while mixing in bits of Robyn and Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock.

Cee Lo Green, known for his outrageous stage costumes, kept it tame, dressing down in a black Adidas track suit with red piping while his all-female band modeled skintight red jumpsuits and minidresses. He didn't dial down the funk, though, blasting through "Bright Lights, Big City" and "Freak" as the setting sun blazed away on the main stage. He also did some gender reassignment with the Pussycat Dolls' signature hit "Don't Cha," dedicated "Satisfied" to the victims of the recent Texas wildfires and played a slow, beat- and turntable-heavy version of the Gnarls Barkley hit "Crazy."

Elastic talkbox freak funkers Chromeo dedicated "I Am Somebody" to their recently passed collaborator, DJ Mehdi. And with a large portion of the sold-out crowd down at the other end for a rare festival set from soul icon Wonder, My Morning Jacket cranked their energy up a notch, blasting off with the slowly building "Victory Dance," then segueing into the fierce reggae rock jam "Off the Record" and the majestic interstellar overdrive anthem "Gideon."

As usual, lead singer Jim James was in fine falsetto wailing voice, working the whole stage as he shook his mound of neon-lit curly hair. The fierce Southern gospel rock set included such favorites as "Wordless Chorus" and ended with a three-song mini-set featuring former tourmates New Orleans' Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

One of the givens at ACL is that you will get a chance to see a legend (or two), and this year's Hall of Famer was Wonder, who soothed an exhausted crowd's mind with a velvety lounge take on "Ribbon in the Sky" and a slow-dance grand piano stroll through "Overjoyed." Then he picked it up like nobody can, pivoting into the sing-along "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours" and the rubbery disco groove of "Sir Duke," his keening vocals seemingly unchanged after half a century.

They boogied hard to "Do I Do" and "My Cherie Amour" and lost their minds when he busted out the harmonica during "For Once in My Life."

Sunday

Graffiti6 had the unenviable task of opening the final day, trying to draw a crowd with their Maroon 5-meets-Crosby, Stills and Nash blue-eyed acoustic pop soul, while downtown punkers-turned-rancheros Mariachi El Bronx cooked up some authentic really down South jams on tunes like "Cellmates." But with their embroidered black suits, they won the race for the weekend's most weather-unfriendly stage wear. Festival vets the Airborne Toxic Event pumped out muscular arena rock, including fiddle-assisted covers of Bruce Springsteen's "I'm On Fire" and the Bobby Fuller Four's "I Fought the Law."

Philly's Chiddy Bang proved their freestyle skills once again, as rapper Chidera "Chiddy" Anamege took requests from the audience and strung together verses about Texas, "Saved by the Bell" and, shockingly, weed.

Canadian collective Broken Social Scene just had to play their syncopated rocker "Texico Bitches," but the weekend's most intense visual spectacle was courtesy of Australia's Empire of the Sun. Lead singer Luke Temple emerged in a blue glittery tunic and towering feathered headdress, along with four dancers in pink catsuits and frilled masks accented by oversize light-up cardboard guitars. Pounding new-wave dance rock tunes like "Standing on the Shore" amid multiple increasingly outrageous costume changes, the set felt like the sexy psychedelic space musical Duran Duran never mounted.

Like a lot of bands, Canada's Arcade Fire said Austin is their second home, and they were welcomed to the festival's closing spot like favorite sons and daughters by a massive crowd that seemed to spread to the horizon. Their cinematic tour through the stations of teenage rebellion — complete with movie theater marquee showing black-and-white flicks — included stops at such ravers as "Ready to Start," "No Cars Go," the widescreen shout-along rouser "Wake Up!" and the live rarity, "Speaking in Tongues."

They were not going to send them home gently into that good night, though, instead charging through "Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)" as a goodbye memento worth keeping more than that wicked farmer's tan and nasty heat headache.

Beginnings, endings and one hell of a middle, ACL had plenty of all three.

Britney Spears has landed in London and she's taking the city by storm.

Since arriving in the U.K., the singer has been hard at work on the set of her "Criminal" music video, according to photos that hit the Web. The pics reveal there will be a cameo from a super special guy in her life.

In one photograph, a smiling Spears holds a gun as she leaves a convenience store with her real-life boyfriend Jason Trawick behind her. Other photos show Spears inside the store tucking the gun in the waistband of her pants, and Trawick carrying groceries and pulling Brit by the arm.

In a chat with AOL, the pop star explained that it was her idea to shoot the clip in London. "I'm shooting a video [and] I've never shot on location out of the country of America for a video," she said. "So, it should be very interesting. It was partly my idea ... to see if it could to happen, and they were like, 'Yeah, it's a great idea,' so we did it."

The Femme Fatale singer also opened up about her busy career, including the European leg of her tour which kicks off this month. So, how does she stay tour-ready at all times? "Sometimes it is [a lot of work], but I genuinely love what I do and I get on a routine and a schedule to keep me motivated and inspired to have the energy I need for the show," she said. "A lot of cardio, a lot of running and just try and eat clean."

Britney added that it's all about balancing motherhood and career. "You just have to find your balance and niche in your life," she said, crediting her mom and nanny with giving her a helping hand. "It's a process you learn to figure out."

Mila Kunis, Justin Timberlake Sexting Claims 'Entirely False'

Last week, the Internet was buzzing with news that nude photos of Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis had leaked. Although the reportedly scandalous four photos never actually hit the Net, one was said to feature Kunis in a bathtub, while Timberlake appeared in another two.

The "Friends With Benefits" co-stars, however, are laughing it all off.

"At no time did Mr. Timberlake and Ms. Kunis exchange inappropriate texts or emails. ... The insistence that there is any inappropriate correspondence between the two parties is entirely false, " a lengthy statement to People reads.

The co-stars go on to add, "We would like to confirm that the photo addressed in the media of Ms. Kunis was in fact not from any phone but from an inactive email account that has not existed in three years. In regards to the other photos in question, they were never exchanged between the two parties."

Like Scarlett Johansson, whose private nude pics recently hit the Net, the actors are working with authorities to nail down the hackers who gained possession of their personal photos.

But Kunis and Timberlake also showed they have a sense of humor, writing, "In closing, Mr. Timberlake would like us to make it clear that while he might write songs about putting things in boxes, he never has and definitely doesn't make a habit of taking any photos of them and sending them," referring to Timberlake's hit "Saturday Night Live" sketch "D--- in a Box." Ms. Kunis would like us to add that while she is a fan of the song, she does not have nor has ever had photos of any male parts in her possession."

In the 2006 "SNL" sketch, Justin joins castmember Andy Samberg and his Lonely Island crew for a song about giving their loved ones the gift of "themselves" for the holidays.

Steven Soderbergh's 'Contagion' follows at #2, with Ryan Gosling vehicle 'Drive' at #3.

What's old was new again as Disney's iconic "The Lion King" became the #1 movie at the box office over the weekend, taking in an estimated $29.3 million with a souped-up 3-D redo of the 1994 original.

"Drive," one of the year's best-reviewed films, was #3 in its weekend debut, while the poorly reviewed remake of "Straw Dogs" and Sarah Jessica Parker's even-worse-reviewed "I Don't Know How She Does It" both flopped in their debuts. Last week's #1 movie, "Contagion," dropped to #2 this week.

"The Lion King" 3-D re-release earned more than the other three new releases combined. The film's original-run, IMAX re-release (back in 2002) and the past weekend's numbers pushed "The Lion King" from #25 to #17 on the all-time domestic box-office chart, according to Box Office Mojo. The animated tale, which has also quite successfully been adapted for Broadway, has made $357.8 million in the United States to date.

Steven Soderbergh's ensemble procedural drama "Contagion" made $14.5 million in its second weekend of release, for a total of $44.2 million. "Drive" took in $11 million, but while the film has set Twitter abuzz in critic circles, it remains to be seen how it will continue to play with a broader audience. "This is one of Ryan Gosling's best performances," Aisle Seat reported.

"The Help" came in at #4 at the box office, adding $6.4 million for a total of $147.3 million. The remake of director Sam Peckinpah's 1971 thriller "Straw Dogs," featuring "True Blood" star Alexander Skarsgård, mustered just $5 million in its debut. "I Don't Know How She Does It" fared even worse with just $4.5 million, which was less than the opening numbers of Parker's last two flops.

Meanwhile, critical darling "Warrior" dropped 47 percent, all the way down to #8, in its second weekend of release with just $2.8 million for a $9.9 million total. "Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star," which is the exact opposite of a critical darling (with a perfect "zero" score on film review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes), made a paltry $2.3 million in 10 days after a $380,000 second weekend.

Next weekend's new releases include Taylor Lautner's "Abduction," Brad Pitt's "Moneyball," action ensemble (Statham! Owen! DeNiro!) "Killer Elite" and filmmaker Kevin Smith's "Red State."

Charlie Sheen Gives Ashton Kutcher 'Advice' At The Emmys

'Make us proud!' actor tweets to his 'Two and a Half Men' replacement after backstage meeting.

The Charlie Sheen image-rehabilitation tour continues. Days after the former "Two and a Half Men" star began making the media rounds, confessing on the "Tonight Show" that he should have been fired and on the "Today" show that maybe pretending tiger blood coursed through his veins wasn't such a good idea, Sheen popped over to the Emmy Awards on Sunday.

Before presenting the lead actor award, Sheen, a four-time Emmy nominee during his run on "Men," sauntered out onto the stage and told everyone at his old show, "From the bottom of my heart, I wish nothing but the best for this upcoming season. We spent eight wonderful years together, and I know you will continue to make great television."

As if this latest version of Charlie Sheen couldn't get any stranger (or warm-and-fuzzier), the actor then tweeted a series of backstage pics with his "Two and a Half Men" replacement, Ashton Kutcher.

"Giving the new kid a little advice!" Sheen tweeted, attempting a bit of elder statesman bonhomie, before adding some straightforward sincerity. "[G]reat talking to you! We'll all be watching! Make us proud!"

The flurry of apologies and normal-guy behavior comes ahead of the Monday-night premieres of Sheen's Comedy Central Roast and the new "Two and a Half Men." On Sunday night at the Emmys, Kutcher shared the stage with his new co-star, Jon Cryer, to whom he confessed, "I am not Charlie Sheen. Jon, I want to tell you something. I do not think that you are a troll."

Perhaps somewhere backstage, if not on Twitter, Sheen was able to apologize to Cryer for that troll comment a few months back. And if it didn't happen on Sunday, it probably will in the future, for the Charlie Sheen rehabilitation tour shows no sign of slowing down, despite the lack of Adonis DNA onboard.

Don't miss Comedy Central's "The Roast of Charlie Sheen," airing tonight at 10/9c.

Emmy Win In Store For Future 'Glee' Guest-Star Anne Hathaway?

'I'm meeting with Anne in the next couple weeks,' 'Glee' creator Ryan Murphy says at Emmy red carpet.

All Gwyneth Paltrow had to do at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards was show up and rock a belly-baring dress on the red carpet. Once inside the Nokia Theatre, the stressful part of her evening was over, as her turn as Holly Holiday in "Glee" already earned her a win for Outstanding Guest Performance in a Comedy Series at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards earlier this month.

Could Anne Hathaway be the next A-lister to nab Emmy glory for a guest-starring role on "Glee"? It's looking at the very least like she might well pop up in the halls of William McKinley High this season, according to Ryan Murphy, one of the show's creators.

"I'm meeting with Anne in the next couple weeks," he told MTV News on the red carpet. "We're not going to do guest stars at all the first half of the season, but I would love to work with her and she supposedly has the whole thing mapped out."

Indeed she does. Hathaway has long held out hope of . appearing on "Glee," telling MTV News last fall in hilarious specificity, "I would want to do two duets, one with the young man who plays Kurt. And I'd want to sing a song from 'Into the Woods.' "

Murphy has since let his cast know that Hathaway will be guest-starring at some point, but now it seems like it might all go down during the second half of the season. Will Hathaway stick to her original plan? Will Murphy bring his own ideas to their meeting? The "Glee" creator is waiting to find out himself.

"I'm curious as to what she wants to do," he said. "I love her. I think she's great."
