Bruno Mars Calls Video Of The Year The 'Big-Boy Award'

Bruno Mars' emotional clip for "Grenade" is one of the big nominees at the 2011 Video Music Awards.

Not only is "Grenade" up for prizes like Best Male Video and Best Pop Video, but the video is also a contender for the night's ultimate get: Video of the Year. Mars will face off against Katy Perry ("Firework"), Adele ("Rolling in the Deep"), Tyler the Creator ("Yonkers") and the Beastie Boys ("Make Some Noise") on Sunday, August 28.

"I grew up watching VMAs. I know every performance," Mars told MTV News recently. "Ever since I was a kid, I've been watching MTV VMAs, and when we got the phone call saying that my video was up for Video of the Year, that's the big-boy award."

The accolades mean even more to Mars because he personally dreamed up the idea for the video. "It was my concept," the singer said. "I said, 'I want to drag a piano.' I got my friend, [the video director] Nabil [Elderkin] to come direct it, and it was a risk 'cause I still hear jokes to this day like, 'What the hell you doing dragging a piano?' " he quipped. "But it's my art, so shut up!"

In addition to competing for Moonmen for that "Grenade" video, Mars is also battling it out for Best Choreography for his less-angsty "The Lazy Song."

"You know what I'm excited for? As much as I put blood, sweat and tears into 'Grenade,' I'm excited for 'The Lazy Song,' Best Choreography," he dished to us. "That is amazing ... and I think that would be the coolest thing ever if I went home and saw a Moonman that said: 'Best Choreography, Bruno Mars, 'The Lazy Song.' "

The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. See the list of nominees, revisit last year's highlights and vote for your favorites in the general categories by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

Will '(Drop Dead) Beautiful' Be Britney Spears' Next Single?

Spears' collaborator Sabi weighs in on whether her song with Spears will be the next Femme Fatale single.
By Jocelyn Vena

Britney Spears flirted with fans on "Hold It Against Me," threw a party with "Till the World Ends" and got a bit cheeky on "I Wanna Go." Now the singer is wondering what her fourth Femme Fatale single should be. She even recently posted a poll on her Facebook page pondering whether her next single should be "Criminal," "Inside Out" or "(Drop Dead) Beautiful."

The Internet has been abuzz about what that next single could be, and Spears' "(Drop Dead) Beautiful" collaborator Sabi says that she's just as anxious to find out what the decision is as well. "I don't know, I don't know, it's all up in the air," she explained to us backstage at the Femme Fatale Tour. "Nothing is for sure yet. We'll see. It would be really nice if that were the next single. The crowd seems to really love it when we do it in the set. That's kind of like how we've been checking it out."

The videos off Femme Fatale have been as unique as the singles selected, with Spears playing a resurrected pop star ("HIAM"), a sweaty party queen ("Till the World Ends") and a paparazzi-stalked pop star ("I Wanna Go"). Sabi said she would love for the "(Drop Dead) Beautiful" video to mirror the setup she and Brit use during their tour performances of the song.

"What we do onstage is very Egyptian, Middle Eastern-like feel and a lot of vanity kind of stuff," she said of the performance, which features lots of mirrors and sparkles. "So I would just imagine what we kind of did for the green screen, where there's mirrors and there's boys that are like oiled up ... I would imagine us in goddess-looking outfits and us looking vain," she added.

Do you think "(Drop Dead) Beautiful" should be Brit's next single? Tell us in the comments!

'Jersey Shore' Stars Can't Find Love in Italy

'There were no guidos there, surprisingly,' Snooki tells MTV News.

The fourth season of "Jersey Shore" is now under way, and during last week's premiere episode, we got to see the crew take on the streets of Florence, Italy, for the first time. Yes, they brought along the GTL and their fist pumps, but were they able to bring along that Jersey charm to win over Italian men and women?

"There were no guidos there, surprisingly. It's Italy," Snooki told MTV News.

She's not the only castmember who said the Italian men in Florence didn't meet her standards: Deena agreed. "I went there looking for a nice authentic man, and let me tell you: I found a few," she said. "But no guidos. It was more like Lean Cuisines."

Snooki added, "They weren't even Lean Cuisines; they were like skinny Gumbys."

Even though the ladies didn't have any luck, you might think the single men of the house — Mike, Vinny and Pauly (also known as MVP) — would be able to find a nice Italian girl. Well, think again.

"It's a lot harder to find than you think," Vinny said. "Florence is an international city, a lot of Americans, but when we did find the Italian girls, they were very mature. They're ready to settle down at a young age."

Someone that probably isn't ready to settle down anytime soon, the Situation, seemed to have no problem translating his smooth-talking ways into Italian women's hearts.

"Italian women over there were very sweet. I got a chance to know one or two that didn't speak a lick of English," the Situation said. "There really isn't a language barrier 'cause at the end of the day, we all know there's one language: It's the language of love."

Don't miss "Jersey Shore" every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV!

After suffering a brutal attack early Monday morning in New York, Gavin DeGraw has been released from the hospital and is said to be on the road to recovery.

A rep for the "I Don't Wanna Be" singer confirmed that DeGraw was discharged Tuesday evening (August 9) from Bellevue Hospital, where he was being treated for a concussion, broken nose, black eyes, cuts and bruises sustained when a group of unknown assailants attacked him in Manhattan's East Village.

The attack is still under investigation, and no arrests have been made, but the 34-year-old took to Twitter to say a few words about the incident and to let his fans know that he plans to get well soon.

"Hi my friends," he tweeted to his more than 60,000 followers. "Honestly, I don't remember much. I only know I can recover from here. Thank u all for your genuine concern. I love u guys."

Despite being released from the hospital, DeGraw was forced to cancel several upcoming appearances. "As a result of Gavin's injuries, he won't be performing in Wantagh, NY on August 12 or Mansfield, MA on August 13," his rep said in a statement to MTV News.

It is not yet known how quickly DeGraw will recover and whether he will reschedule his appearances. The singer is preparing to release his fifth album, Sweeter, on September 20, and has plans to open a second National Underground bar in Nashville with his brother, fellow musician Joey DeGraw.

Jay-Z and Kanye West aren't the only rappers dropping a collab album this week. As soloists, Atlanta's Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka Flame have taken their Southern-drenched sound worldwide, and on Tuesday (August 9), the duo released Ferrari Boyz, an LP Waka said was inspired by the people.

"Fans were like, 'Man, y'all need to do somethin' together, work with people in the industry,' " Waka told MTV News' Sway. "See, we could agree with one of the statements: We'll work together, but the industry folks, they industry, you follow me?"

On Ferrari Boyz, the 1017 representatives keep everything in-house. The majority of the album was produced by Lex Luger and Southside, both of whom contributed largely to Waka's first album, Flockaveli, in 2010. As far as guest appearances go, the Ferrari Boyz didn't call on any of their past big-name collaborators like Rick Ross, Diddy or Usher. Instead, underground MCs like Tity Boi (a.k.a. 2 Chainz) and Georgia rapper Rocko rounded out the track list.

"Man, we just came to smash the game — point blank, period," Waka said. "They chasin' our sound, folks' singles is on our sound, and we might as well just go 'head and give it all to 'em."

For Gucci, who was freed from Fulton County Jail in July after a three-month stint, working with his rap protégé for this new album was a positive experience. "We had so much fun just making the album. I had a blast just goin' in there with Waka, just findin'out rhymes, just about anything," Gucci said. "We just went in there and we just let it all hang out."

On Wednesday, Gucci and Waka will appear on MTV's "RapFix Live" at 4 p.m. ET and talk about their new album as well as their recent dramas.

Maroon 5 Go Retro In New 'Moves Like Jagger' Video

Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera are taking viewers on a nostalgic romp through the '70s in their new video for "Moves Like Jagger." The four-and-a-half-minute clip, which debuted Tuesday (August 9), takes place at the historic L.A. Theatre and, as the song title suggests, features a lot of people trying to move like Mick Jagger.

The Jonas Åkerlund-directed clip opens with black-and-white footage of the theater, shots of work crews assembling lighting and equipment onstage and groups of extras getting into costume, warming up for a shoot. This is followed by classic footage of Jagger, during which a reporter asks the iconic Rolling Stones frontman how long he plans to make music.

"I don't know. I never thought I'd be doing it for two years even," a young Jagger says, as the opening whistles of the Maroon 5 song kick in, throughout which a slew of Jagger look-alikes are shown dancing up to a central microphone, interlaced with archival footage of Jagger himself and shots of bandmembers James Valentine, Jesse Carmichael, Michael Madden and Matt Flynn rocking out on their instruments. Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine eventually takes center stage to start singing wearing nothing but snug-fitting polyester pants and his colorful tattoos.

True to its name, the video is mostly a mash-up of people trying to move like Jagger, including Levine. When Aguilera makes her brief appearance, she fits right into the retro feel with mascara-heavy lashes and a floppy hat. We don't see her Jagger moves, though.

For the eagle-eyed fans out there, watch out for the cheeky "Who the f--- is Mick Jagger?" T-shirt Levine and several extras sport at various moments in the clip. For Levine and his bandmates, the song and video are all about exposing a new generation to the rock legend.

"We were lucky enough to get Mick's endorsement [for the video], as far as him giving us access to a bunch of different footage that's so cool," Levine told MTV News when we visited the video's set last month. "Not many people have seen [it], especially a newer generation of people that don't know so much about how incredible he was."

Don't Sleep: Necessary Notables
Mixtape: Sextape Chronicles 2

Headliner: Verse Simmonds

Key Cameo: Kelly Rowland on "Boo Thang"

R&B singer and songwriter Verse Simmonds has been heating up lately. He and production partner Sham "Sak Pase" Joseph landed their track "Who Gon Stop Me" on Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne LP, which dropped Monday. Even with as much fire as Simmonds is beginning to amass, he snatched a bit of heat from Kelly Rowland for his latest single, "Boo Thang," which will appear on his new mixtape, Sextape Chronicles 2.

"She's hot as fish grease right now," Simmonds said of the "Motivation" singer before explaining how she became a collaborator. "So when she heard it, she was like, 'I really love it.' Two days later, she went in the studio and recorded it. We ain't have to hunt her down, we ain't have to stalk her for it. She really loved it and went in and did her thing on it, and I was happy to get her on there."

Simmonds first made waves with his 2009 single "Buy You a Round (Up and Down)," and now he has signed with Akon's Konvict label. Before he gets to the album, Verse's first order of business is to release the follow-up to his original Sextape Chronicles. The new tape's first shot is the Rowland-assisted "Boo Thang."

On the track, Verse starts by rapping over a midtempo piano-laced track. His raps give way to a melodic refrain that he sings, leading him all the way to the hook. "I know we ain't got no strings attached/ We could be the perfect match," he croons before he duets with Rowland, who adds her vocals to the chorus and then again on the final verse.

Hooking up with the former Destiny's Child singer is a huge get, but Verse insists his Sextape is otherwise a solo affair. "Right now, she is the only feature I have on there," he said. "We wanted to make it just about the music."

Jay-Z And Kanye's Watch The Throne: Reviews Are In!

Posted: 08 Aug 2011 11:47 PM PDT

Is joint album worth its weight in gold-plated packaging?
By Rob Markman

Jay-Z and Kanye West are no strangers to high-profile releases. As soloists, the two hip-hop titans have their fair shares of #1 LPs, smash singles, Grammys and gold and platinum plaques. So when it was time to drop their collaborative Watch the Throne, expectations were no doubt high.

From the first time fans heard the Lex Luger-produced "H.A.M." in January to the release of the Throne's current single "Otis" just a few weeks ago, the Watch the Throne hype machine has been in overdrive. As the clock ticked from Sunday night to Monday morning on the East Coast, the time for speculation was laid to rest. The album was finally released, the music devoured and critiques formed. Some complained of the album's layered sound and omnipresent money talk; others praised Jay and Kanye for their social commentary on songs like "Murder to Excellence" and "Made in America."

In the end, everyone had an opinion, and we've rounded up the critics' thoughts:

The Chemistry
"Those expecting a disastrous ego clash will have to wait for Congress to reconvene — or until Jay-Z and West hit the road together this fall. Here, the duo volley between the contemplative and the petulant, dreaming contorted American dreams in which your worth is defined by your Rolex, your tenacity, your Warhol collection, your desire, the cars in your garage and the chips on your shoulder. Over the course of 16 tracks, rebellion is consistently tempered with gluttony — the two dissonant spirits that make this country great." — Chris Richards, The Washington Post

"Too much of Watch the Throne sounds cluttered and disjointed, as though Jay and 'Ye built their garish castle in the sky via FedEx and text messages." — Kyle Anderson, Entertainment Weekly

Standout Songs
"The album's highlight, and an instant classic, is 'Made in America,' a solid, slow-paced Frank Ocean-teamed jam about the American dream that reveals the main difference between West and Jay-Z: humility." — Randall Roberts, Los Angeles Times

"The Neptunes-produced 'Gotta Have It' is pleasant, but the real gem is 'New Day,' a song Jay and Kanye pen to their fictional unborn sons. It shows both as vulnerable and honest, backed by RZA and Kanye's production." — JP DelaCuesta and Chuck "Jigsaw" Creekmur, All Hip-Hop

Check out how Jay-Z and Kanye West's Throne Defies Radio Rules

The Final Word
"Both West and Jay-Z were vocal backers of Barack Obama during his 2008 presidential campaign, but now that America is struggling to regain its economic bearings, they rhyme about their private jets, expensive watches and supermodel escapades." — Greg Kot, Chicago Tribune

"Dig deep into Throne, past the bacchanal celebration of the finer things in life, and you'll find the album's heart: two men grappling with what it means to be successful and black in a nation that still thinks of them as second class." — Claire Suddath, Time

"In an age of 'I love you, love me' synth pop of Ladies Gaga, Spears and Perry, listening to Watch the Throne feels like coming off of happy pills and realizing that it's OK that sometimes, life doesn't just love you the way you were born." — Kia Makarechi, Huffington Post

By Jocelyn Vena

Nicki Minaj plans to head back to the studio this fall to begin work on her sophomore LP, the follow-up to 2010's Pink Friday. The over-the-top rapper is keeping most of the album details close to the vest, but does say that one of her personas will play a big part on the LP.

"I don't know, I don't think I'm hitting up anybody for features for this sophomore album," she told us backstage at the Femme Fatale Tour. She added that the vibe will be decided by the one and only "Roman ... possibly. But I never give away all my secrets."

Earlier this year, Nicki teased an album announcement for September, and when she sat down on "Good Morning America" last week, she said she was going big on her next album. "My best work is ahead of me, not behind me. Stay tuned," she explained. "As soon as I get off this tour [which wraps this month], I'm headed to L.A. to work on this sophomore album and it's gonna be epic."

In a chat with MTV News back in March, Minaj was equally coy about any details for the highly anticipated release, but seemed to know a lot more about her plans for it than she wanted to let on. "I can give you an idea," she said. "But I don't want to. I'd rather not right now. Because then everybody is gonna jump on the bandwagon and say they're putting out their album the same day."

And as if all that wasn't enough, Minaj will co-star in the forthcoming animated flick "Ice Age: Continental Drift," due out next summer.

Britney Spears Tour Gig 'So Cool,' DJ Pauly D Raves

'I'm an act — then Nicki Minaj, then Britney Spears,' the 'Jersey Shore' star tells MTV News in disbelief.
By Christina Garibaldi

DJ Pauly D joined the Femme Fatale Tour on Monday night and got the crowd fist-pumping as one of the opening acts for Britney Spears' show. It was announced last month that the "Jersey Shore" star would be taking a break from Seaside Heights to hit the road with Brit for the remainder of her tour, and he kicked things off this week in Boston.

"It's so cool because I'm an actual act," Pauly D told MTV News a few days before Monday's tour date. "So, it's like DJ Pauly D goes on — I'm an act — then Nicki Minaj, then Britney Spears."

So how did Pauly D do in his big debut? Well, his tourmate Nicki Minaj took to Twitter after the concert and gave her rave review: "BOSTON why are u so EPIC right now?!??!!?! Like seriously???!??" Minaj tweeted. "(Pauly D KILlED it by the way!!!!)"

This is Pauly D's first time joining a major tour but he didn't think life on the road would be difficult to get used to. "I got my own tour bus now, it's all done," Pauly D said smiling. "My DJ booth is all done, it looks amazing, and I'm really excited. It's like a dream come true."

But if you're going to check out the concert, don't expect Pauly D to play any of Spears' classic songs. "A DJ should not play the artist's songs at her concert, 'cause she has to perform these songs," he told us earlier this year when he warmed up the crowd for Brit's Las Vegas show. "I'm not going to be playing any Britney before she performs; maybe after. I'll let her perform, let her shine, 'cause it's her night."

Although he won't open the show by playing her hits, the MTV star didn't rule out the possibility of joining Spears (who's a "Jersey Shore" fan!) onstage.

"Maybe, we'll see," Pauly said. "It would be really cool, though."

Joe Jonas may be busy right now launching the solo phase of his career, as he preps his video for "Just in Love With You," but that doesn't mean the Jonas Brothers won't be back.

"I love to make music, and I'm always creating. It doesn't stop that creating bug," he told us backstage at Britney Spears' Femme Fatale Tour, where Kevin Jonas showed up to lend some support to his younger brother. "Definitely, me and my bros, we are gonna make another project eventually," he said. "Right now, we're just focused on the side projects and the individual stuff we're doing."

So when might fans expect new music from the trio?

"In the next few years or a year or so, we're gonna make more music together," he said. "I think it's nice for all of us to be able to do this and for me to take this time and really go for it."

Earlier this year, Nick Jonas spoke to MTV News about what the guys would do once they finally decided to begin work on their follow-up to 2009's Lines, Vines and Trying Times. "With the next one, you have to step it up and make it great, and I think that we don't necessarily know what the sound is right now," he said. "And we're all kind of in different areas musically. I think that we don't have the same influences."

Throne Day knew no borders. When Jay-Z and Kanye West released their highly anticipated Watch the Throne LP on iTunes Monday, fans from all across the world purchased it, making the album #1 on iTunes in 23 different countries.

The physical version of WTT won't be available until August 12, but that didn't stop rap fans in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain and the United Kingdom from propelling the album to the top spot of the digital distributors chart. Adele's 21 continued to do well, snagging the #2 slot in 12 of the 23 countries where Throne dominated, but when the official sales numbers come in next week, it is likely that Hov and Yeezy will sit atop the Billboard albums chart.

Watch the Throne surprisingly avoided an online leak, and when it dropped on Monday, it dominated Twitter, spawning numerous trending topics on the social networking site. "#WTT," "#Watch The Throne" and "throneday" all trended at some point as well as individual songs from the album like "Who Gon Stop Me," "No Church in the Wild" and "N---as in Paris."

See what music industry experts had to say about Watch the Throne.

While there were quite a few low-key marketing tactics surrounding the Throne release, it is notable that the album was dropped with no video or smash single as fans have come to expect from Jay and Kanye. "Otis," though met with rave reviews, didn't exactly scream top 40 radio, but then again artists of Jigga and 'Ye's stature can get away with that.

Check out how Jay-Z and Kanye West's Throne Defies Radio Rules

"The first single, 'Otis,' if you wanna call it a single, it's not a radio record but it's been added on so many different radio stations, which I think is dope," MTV2 Sucker Free's DJ Envy said. "You still play it in the club, and it's a hot record."

Shade 45's DJ Wonder agreed. "With Jay-Z and Kanye, they're so iconic that it's not going to make a difference what they decided to do; people are gonna want it," he said.

Sabi has been putting the work in for some time now. She first burst onto the scene as one-half of the girl duo the Bangz. After the group disbanded a few years back, Sabi began to pursue a solo career and caught the attention of some major artists.

She's already been featured on tracks by artists like New Boyz, Cobra Starship (on their song "You Make Me Feel") and Britney Spears (on her track "[Drop Dead] Beautiful"), and she's currently in the studio hard at work on her long-simmering solo LP, working with everyone from Benny Blanco and Diplo to the Cataracs, to name a few.

"It's been great. This is my first album so it's nerve-racking," she told MTV News backstage on the Femme Fatale Tour. "It's exciting. We're still working on it and I can't wait to get it finished and share it with everyone. So we're just still in the process, the grinding process of getting stuff out."

Sabi teased fans with her just-released track "Wild Heart." The Dream Machine-produced track is a club banger and pop fans are feeling the new discovery. "The response has been pretty good," she said. "I hope that people like my music, but I like it, so that's all I care about," she laughed.

With so much buzz building around the young star, she's aiming for an early 2012 album release date. "We're still trying to figure it out, but it's feeling like at the rate we're going, top of the year," she said, adding that she hopes her features have given her enough shine to launch her to the next level once the album drops.

"I kind of wanted to get out there and a do a little bit of the footwork and introduce myself slowly instead of 'I'm here!' " she said. "And now, when I'm ready for a single that's like 'I'm here,' people aren't like, 'Who?' That's what I'm hoping."

Evanescence Say First Single 'What You Want' Was 'A Natural Choice'

Posted: 09 Aug 2011 06:42 AM PDT

Band premiered song Monday night live on MTV
By James Montgomery

NASHVILLE, Tennessee — There were many questions Evanescence faced during the making of their new album — including, of course, whether they wanted to continue on as Evanescence. But throughout the process, there was one thing that wasn't in doubt: what the first single would be.

It seems that from the very get-go, the band knew that if they did complete their self-titled disc (in stores October 11), the roaring "What You Want" would be the track they'd lead with. And on Monday night, after they premiered the song live on MTV, Amy Lee and Co. sat down to discuss the process that lead to the track's creation ... which, as it turns out, wasn't much of a process at all.

"On one hand, we had a lot of songs that we all felt like we would like to be singles, but it was a really natural choice [to go with 'What You Want]," Lee told MTV News. "It's kind of about coming back in some ways, about the fans, about this Evanescence renaissance we're having. I think it makes sense."

But that message was just part of the reason the band knew "Want" would be the debut single off their first album in nearly five years. Sure, it represented everything they'd gone through just to make it to this point (and sums up the reasons they chose to continue on in the first place), but more importantly, they knew the track flat-out rocked. And sometimes, that's more important than anything.

"Before even the lyrics, we had the music going on, the riff comes in, and we're all sitting there listening back, [nodding our heads]," bassist Tim McCord explained. "And we look at each other like, 'Wait, we've got something going on here.' "

And that elastic-yet-lock-step energy not only makes the song the perfect comeback single for a band that's been gone for far too long, but it manages to capture the very essence of what inspired them to press on. In short, it powers along in ways no previous Evanescence single has, and that's because it was born out of intense collaborations between Lee and her bandmates. And that spirit informs everything they do in the present.

"[It's] the energy. I felt that a lot when we were making this music. I think 'What You Want' is probably the best example of the song on the record that feels like ... it feels danceable. I had a lot of moments where we were smiling, we were having a great time [making it]," Lee said. "We had a lot of time ... this was where we did our pre-production and wrote some of these songs, finished them off. 'What You Want,' for example. We had the song, but to really play it in the live setting, and ... hammer it out, like we were going to play it live, before building all the other elements to it, it's part of what makes it great. Getting the bounce the right way ... it was, 'let's do this because it feels good.' "

Interscope Records boss Jimmy Iovine promised that the rollout of music by this year's "American Idol" winner would be much faster than in the past, and he wasn't kidding. While champ Scotty McCreery has already scored a top 40 hit with a digital album collection of tunes from his "Idol" run, he is now the first "Idol" victor to have an official music video out less than three months after his win.

Teenage country crooner McCreery debuted the bare-bones clip for his coronation song "I Love You This Big" on his website on Monday night, and it finds him earnestly singing the midtempo tune as his band sets up behind him in a Los Angeles park. Short on flash, the clip consists mostly of McCreery looking out pensively into the distance as he lip-synchs the plainspoken love song and families gather 'round to watch the concert.

Halfway through, the action turns to a nighttime scene, with lights strung around the stage as a series of fresh-faced young ladies approach their fellas and lean in for some chaste hugs and kisses while digital fireworks explode in the sky. Good guy that he is, McCreery tipped his fans off to the fact that his mother makes a cameo in the clip.

While the quick turnaround video for "Big" was impressive (given that McCreery is in the midst of the grueling Idols Live! summer tour), even more surprising was that this year's runner-up, fellow country teen Lauren Alaina, also dropped her first video on Monday on her website.

Alaina's video, for her single "Like My Mother Does," already has the high-schooler looking more glammed up and Hollywood country, in a touching effort that prominently features home movies of the singer and her mother. In between shots of a wistful Alaina singing the homage to her momma inside a Southern country-comfort home while looking directly into the camera, fans see clips of her performing as a child and celebrating birthdays with friends and family.

Some of the pictures and videos are projected on the inside of the rustic home and intercut with Alaina standing in the kitchen, lounging on a couch in the living room, balancing on the railing of a front porch and laying in bed looking at a photo album while shedding a single tear.

Both singers are expected to release their debut albums in the fall.

Amy Winehouse's musical catalog has gotten a boost in the wake of her death last month, but that will not be the beehived singer's only lasting pop culture legacy.

The Fred Perry fashion house announced that it will go forward with the final pair of collections designed by the "Rehab" singer for this fall and for spring 2012. In a statement, Perry explained, "After much consideration and with the blessing of Amy's family, we have decided to release the AW11 Amy Winehouse for Fred Perry Collection. Amy was passionate and dedicated to the collaboration, and her signature style is clearly stamped across each piece. Amy's royalties and fees from both collections will be donated to the soon-to-be-established Amy Winehouse Foundation. Fred Perry will also make a seasonal donation to the Foundation."

Winehouse died on July 23 in her Camden, England, apartment at the age of 27 of as-yet-undetermined causes. An initial autopsy was inconclusive, but the results of further toxicology tests could be released within the next two weeks.

The singer — whose towering hair, vintage cocktail dresses and Cleopatra-like eye makeup were part of her unique persona — spoke to Harper's Bazaar in October about branching out into fashion.

"Yeah, yeah, it was not hard at all, not hard at all, because, like ... I knew exactly what I wanted," she said of helping to design the collection. "And I love Fred Perry so much. I was honored that they would even, like, 'Do you want to come and do a line?' Me? Like, me?"

Though her signature look was a big part of her public persona, Winehouse said she didn't consider herself a style icon and didn't think her copious tattoos and thick eyeliner had inspired others to follow suit. "I don't think that's true. I just dress like ... I'm an old black man. Sorry! ... Like I'm an old Jewish black man. I just dress like it's still the '50s."

The singer's father, Mitch Winehouse, confirmed the news for England's Telegraph, saying that his daughter had been cooking up the line with Perry since 2010 and that she would have wanted the clothes to hit stores. "When Fred Perry came to us to ask what we would like to do with the new collection, it was natural to continue," he said. "Amy loved working on both collections and would want them to be made available."

Examples of the largely black-and-white themed dresses, skirts, shirts, sweaters and cardigans — many in houndstooth check — can be seen on the Fred Perry site.

In 1987, Patrick Swayze famously declared, "Nobody puts Baby in a corner." Now it seems a new generation of moviegoers will get the chance to fall in love with Baby and her coming-of-age story all over again.

"High School Musical" director Kenny Ortega has announced that he will direct a remake of the classic film, which starred Swayze and Jennifer Grey. No cast has been announced, but in a statement to EW.com, Ortega said, "The opportunity to direct 'Dirty Dancing' is like returning home for me. ... Patrick Swayze set the bar for men dancing in the movies as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire did before him. I believe everywhere you look there is evidence that the talent is out there and I can't wait to begin the process of discovering the next breakout triple-threats."

Ortega certainly has the résumé to tackle such a project. He was once attached to the "Footloose" remake before passing on that project. He was behind the "HSM" flicks, helmed "Michael Jackson's This Is It" and back in the day directed movies like "Newsies" and "Hocus Pocus."

For those unfamiliar with the story of "Dirty Dancing," it revolves around Baby (Grey) and her family, who are vacationing in New York's Catskills Mountains. The social politics of the 1960s provide the backdrop as Baby falls in love with the resort's star dancer, Johnny Castle (Swayze). The star-crossed lovers embark on a romance that includes lots of, you guessed it, dancing, dirty and otherwise. The remake will feature music of the time period.

The film's breakthrough track, "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" (performed by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes), recently got updated by the Black Eyed Peas when it was sampled for their song "The Time (Dirty Bit)."

"I think it's crazy the way the world works, because ['Dirty Dancing' star] Jennifer Grey is now on 'Dancing With the Stars,' and for some reason that song kind of meant something to us, because we kind of have had an amazing run. I mean, it just keeps going and it keeps going," Fergie explained to MTV News of the sample's significance.

"And we really feel like we have had the time of our lives together, and it's kind of weird how the world works," she continued about the funky track. "And that song reminds me of [Grey] and 'Dirty Dancing' and that whole time, so it's just, I don't know, it all fit."
