Big Sean was arrested Thursday night after New York State Park Police received a complaint that a female had been sexually assaulted during a concert where the G.O.O.D. Music rapper performed on the same bill as Wiz Khalifa.

The rapper, born Sean Anderson, was arrested along with Willie Hansbro at approximately 9:50 p.m. ET after the woman issued the complaint. The Finally Famous rapper, who is currently on Khalifa's Rolling Papers Tour, performed Thursday night at Artpark in Lewiston, New York. Big Sean and Hansbro were eventually released on $500 bail each.

The two men, both hailing from Detroit, have been charged with forcible touching, unlawful imprisonment in the second degree and sex abuse in the third degree and will have to appear in court. "Both men were charged with misdemeanors and they both vehemently deny the allegations," Sean's lawyer, Scott E. Lemon, said in a press release issued to MTV News. "I am confident, that after further investigation, both men will be vindicated."

Big Sean has been riding high since his debut album, Finally Famous, hit #3 on the Billboard albums chart this past June. The LP's lead single, "My Last," hit #1 on the Billboard rap chart, and the 23-year old MC earned his first Video Music Awards nomination in the Best New Artist category

Lady Gaga Sued For Allegedly Copying 'Judas'

Chicago-based singer Rebecca Francescatti claims Gaga's song is similar to a song she recorded in 1999 called 'Juda.'

Relatively unknown Chicago-based singer Rebecca Francescatti has filed a lawsuit against Lady Gaga for alleged copyright infringement on her hit single "Judas."

According to TMZ, Francescatti claims that "Juda," a song she recorded in 1999 with her band Rebecca F. & the Memes, has multiple similarities with Gaga's track, chief among them the fact that Francescatti's former bass player Brian Gaynor is now employed by a music company that wrote 17 songs for Gaga's Born This Way album.

NBC Chicago reported that Gaynor was open with Francescatti and admitted that he was writing for and working with Gaga.

Francescatti's lawyer, Chris Niro, told TMZ that his client is seeking proper recognition for her original work.

"Though the songs are different styles, the composition is the same and the chorus is the same melody," he told the site. "[Rebecca] is seeking recognition for what she created."

By "recognition," Francescatti means money she believes is owed to her.

In the lawsuit, a copy of which was obtained by the Huffington Post, Francescatti names Gaga, Interscope Records, Universal Music Group, DJ White Shadow and sound engineer Brian Joseph Gaynor as participants in creating the single "Judas," a song that bears "a substantial similarity" to "Juda" in that Gaga allegedly "copied and incorporated substantial, original portions" of the work, though it was previously copyrighted and recorded with Gaynor. Francescatti is reportedly seeking a cut from the profits "Judas" has earned.

Do you think the two songs are similar? Let us know in the comments below!

Kanye West And Game Collabos 'Tainted' By Amber Rose Disses

'He said he was gonna give me some beats, but he never did,' Game says on 'RapFix Live,' speculating that lyrics may have upset 'Ye.

Game and Kanye West have had quite the chemistry in the studio. But after producing a song on each of Game's first three albums, the Louis Vuitton Don will not be supplying any music for the West Coast rapper's upcoming The R.E.D. Album and that may be Game's fault.

"I dunno, I think I dissed Amber Rose while she was with [Kanye] and I think that kinda tainted our relationship a little bit," Game told Sway on Wednesday's "RapFix Live" after he was asked when he'd be working with Yeezy again.

"I reached out to Kanye at the beginning of the album and I seen him in L.A. He said he was gonna give me some beats, but he never did," the Compton MC said. "I didn't take it personal, I got nothing but love for 'Ye and the things that we did in the past."

The pair first collaborated when West hooked up the beat for "Dreams," a single off of Game's 2005 debut, The Documentary. The two then got together again on "Wouldn't Get Far," the model-dissing track off Game's second album, The Doctor's Advocate, and completed the hat trick in 2008 with "Angel" on the former G-Unit member's L.A.X. LP. But when the rapper drops The R.E.D. Album on August 23, the streak will end.

While Game admitted to some wrongdoing — throwing shots at Yeezy's former squeeze while the two were together — he insisted that he never directly disrespected Kanye. "I never shoot shots at Kanye, and if I do, it's always competitive and I'll clean it up on the next bar because I got a lot of love and a lot of respect for him."

Game also says he isn't hard-pressed for a Kanye track or feature. "What I'm saying is, I'm not waking up begging to work with Kanye, number one, but if it happens it happens; if it don't, it don't."

Sway then asked whether Game's persistent barbs at Jay-Z had anything to do with the distance between him and Kanye, considering the two are dropping their collaborative Watch the Throne album. Game didn't think that was a factor, noting that Kanye and Jay have always had a close relationship, and Game has been baiting Hov for years.

"I've been shooting shots at Jay from the beginning, but worked with 'Ye throughout," the Dr. Dre protégé said before putting the proverbial shoe on the other foot. "But I understand, because if you shoot a shot at Dre, then it's a possibility I might not work with you or I might not be as open to working with you. I understand it."

Would you like to see Game and Kanye get back in the studio together? Tell us in the comments!

Foster The People 'Inspired' By Paris Hilton Tweet At Lollapalooza

Band 'surprised' by celebutante calling breakout hit 'sexy' on Twitter.

CHICAGO — For a band about to play the biggest show of their short career, Foster the People are pretty chill. An hour before they took the stage at Lollapalooza on Friday (August 5), the Los Angeles buzz band was feeling pretty pumped up about playing to the sweaty masses.

"I think we're all really looking forward to it," singer Mark Foster told MTV News. "I think today's gonna be the biggest crowd we've ever played in front of. This is our first major festival in the U.S. after our record's come out."

The VMA-nominated band's acclaimed debut, Torches — which spawned one of the buzziest tunes of the summer, the retro new-wave "Pumped Up Kicks" -- has only been in stores since late May, but Foster were confident their fans would be up to speed. "It's gonna be interesting to see people be familiar with all the songs and the deep album cuts."

And they were. Not only did they sing along to "Kicks," but the kids up front seemed to know just about all the songs, though a cover of Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" may have thrown them just a bit. Not only was it the first time People had played Lolla, but Foster said it was also his inaugural visit to the Chicago-based incarnation of the festival. Before he formed the group, he said he attended the last touring version of the alternative-music granddaddy in 2003, when it was headlined by Jane's Addiction, Audioslave and Incubus.

In addition to drawing energy from the crowd, drummer Mark Pontius said he was still pretty geeked about an inspirational tweet from a certain celebutante praising "Kicks." He was still feeling pretty good about the fact that none other than Paris Hilton had tweeted that she thought they were, well, "hot."

"I LOVE the song 'Pumped Up Kicks' by @FosterThePeople," Hilton gushed Monday. "So sexy! Puts me in the best mood, plus they are totally hot!"

Tweet your pics from Lollapalooza @MTVNews and they could be featured on MTV.com!

"Of course we were surprised about Paris Hilton tweeting about us," Pontius said, admitting something to the rest of his band. "Secretly, I don't know if I've ever told you, but I have a little bit of an infatuation with Paris Hilton."

Singer Foster laughed, "You're not the only one."

Pontius said he thought it was a good thing Hilton was tweeting about the band. "Maybe we can get married soon," he joked.

As for whether the stamp of approval had given them any added inspiration, Foster said, "Yeah, something like that."

Blink-182's 'Heart's All Gone': Back To Basics

Second song from band's upcoming Neighborhoods album is equally indebted to both classic Blink and iconic West Coast punk.
By James Montgomery

It's easy to compare Blink-182's brand-new "Heart's All Gone" with "Up All Night," the first song they released off their upcoming Neighborhoods album, mostly because the similarities begin and end right there. They are both songs by the band, and they are both on the new record.

Perhaps, then, it's best to contrast the two songs, because they're different in just about every conceivable way. "Up All Night" premiered with much fanfare — on the band's site and L.A. radio station KROQ — and was greeted with much the same. "Heart's All Gone," on the other hand, bowed without much notice: just a quick link on Mark Hoppus' Google Plus page that took you to a new website and a simple instruction to "Command the 'A' " (or, if you're on a PC, "CTRL + A").

Doing so on the new site, of course, revealed not only lyrics but the song itself. And that's when the differences between the two tracks really become apparent. Because while "Up All Night" synthesized all of the band's previous endeavors (Plus-44, Angels & Airwaves, Box Car Racer) into something entirely new, "Heart's All Gone" does the complete opposite: It is very much a blast from the past — both Blink's and the West Coast punk scene that birthed them.

With its breakneck guitars, yelped vocals and cascading drums, it sounds like something taken from Blink's 1997 Dude Ranch album (or '01's Take Off Your Pants and Jacket), but at the same time, it also recalls classic West Coast churn and burn, à la Bad Religion, Pennywise or even NOFX.

Then again, it also sort of sounds like "Stockholm Syndrome" from their self-titled 2003 album, and there's a rather dark instrumental break that seems like the spiritual sequel to "I Miss You" (or even "Adam's Song," from 2000's Enema of the State). Point being, it culls from the past ... and in doing so, it gives fans of so-called "classic Blink" (i.e., everything before they "got serious") hope. Unlike "Up All Night," it makes no bones about being a throwback.

Of course, given its differences to "Night," "Heart's All Gone" also raises a rather interesting question: Just what will the remainder of the Neighborhoods album sound like? Can a band made up of three men with such dissimilar tastes even make a cohesive album? Or is that really even the point? From the sound of things, the new Blink-182 may very well be adept at everything: booming hip-hop backbeats, big, widescreen choruses, spiky, saccharine guitars ... you name it, chances are it's gonna be on the album. Sort of only makes the anticipation that much greater, doesn't it?

Anne Hathaway's Catwoman: Experts Weigh In

'Dark Knight Rises' photo has comics and movie insiders cautiously optimistic.
By Kara Warner

Nothing sets the Internet ablaze like new info about Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" — especially when the latest sneak peek is a photo of Anne Hathaway in costume as Catwoman riding a fancy motorcycle.

MTV News consulted a few experts to gauge reactions to what looks to be Hathaway's Catwoman costume, as well as what we might expect from the actress' overall portrayal of Selina Kyle.

Check out our photo analysis of Hathaway's Catwoman.

"Listen, is this the costume that artist Darwyn Cooke revamped for his 'Catwoman' run? The one that marked her shift from slinky, skintight femme fatale to flawed-but-furious thief and defender of the downtrodden? No," said Marc Bernardin, a writer for Syfy's "Alphas" and DC Comics' "The Authority." "But it's shiny, black, seemingly functional, and has at least one zipper. Which makes it OK in my book — hey, I like zippers."

UGO movies editor Jordan Hoffman pointed out the fact that Kyle/Catwoman's suit is lacking a familiar feline element. "Clearly the suit's tail is detachable for when she's rollin' in the Bat-cycle," he said of the outfit's lack of a tail. "I mean, otherwise it's a real danger!"

With regard to how Hathaway will pull off the storied complexities of Kyle's character in the comics — depending, of course, on which direction Nolan's Catwoman may take — our experts are cautiously optimistic.

"I think I had the same feeling as everyone else when Anne Hathaway was cast. She looks too sweet to play Selina," said Jenna Busch, writer for AOL's Moviefone. "She looks too, well, totally sane. She doesn't exactly ooze sexuality. But I'm willing to buy it after seeing the photo," she admitted. "Now, there is no kitty-cat hat, and fans will probably flip if she spends the entire film as Selina, but she does look pretty darn badass. I'm in. And hey, at least she's not wearing that god-awful Halle Berry outfit!"

"Anne Hathaway was never my first choice — I was rooting for [Marion] Cotillard before she got the Talia role — but Nolan has earned enough good will for me to trust him," Hoffman said. "She certainly isn't hard on the eyes, and so long as Selina Kyle is crafty and that Catwoman eventually has a tail, I'll be happy."

"It's hard to say, just by a single image, if Anne Hathaway's gonna sell Selina Kyle's sultry strength," Bernardin added. "But if this Catwoman-in-the-making just stole Batman's ride ... she's gonna be formidable, to say the least."

Game Loyal To Jailed Manager Jimmy Henchman

Game doesn't turn his back on his friends. The Compton rapper's manager, James "Jimmy Henchman" Rosemond, made headlines in June after he was arrested in New York and charged with heading a cocaine-trafficking ring. But Game told Sway during Wednesday's "RapFix Live" that he is still loyal.

"I talked to Jimmy, he was in good spirits," Game said of Henchman, who is currently locked up but has not been convicted of anything. "Well, the best spirits anybody could be in that position. I was actually surprised to hear him laugh and just be cool about it."

Henchman is part of Game's management team and helped the rapper get his start early on. For that support, the rapper is grateful and reserving judgment. "Until that situation unfolds, you never know what it is," he said. "I wish him the best and I'm out here holding it down. My loyalty lies with my band of brothers, which you're one of, and I'll never fake, never front, never turn on my friends."

The West Coast MC wouldn't go any further into detail, choosing to stay tight-lipped about his friend's legal drama. "It ain't for me to talk about, that's his situation and I'm just championing him and supporting him the best that I can."

When asked if Jimmy's incarceration would affect the release of Game's upcoming The R.E.D. Album, the rapper was confident that he would be fine, noting that Henchman was just one part of his management team and that the other members were equally effective. "With my team, with my management, every man is boss and we're all strong," Game said confidently. "If I quit rappin' today, my management team is fundamentally sound enough where they're gonna still be able to manage and market artists and still be able to put food on their table."

Tom Felton Calls 'Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes' A 'Wakeup Call'

Despite the fact that there are several high-profile actors featured in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," including James Franco, Freida Pinto and Tom Felton, the stars have not been shy about the fact that the apes and special effects are the must-see elements of the film.

"There's a mix of fantastic CGI and amazing effects that we've never seen onscreen before," Felton told MTV News at the premiere of the film. "Along with a strong story and a strong message that humans can't play God too much; we should not overstep our bounds when it comes to Mother Nature.

"We ruin it all," Felton continued, speaking to the oft-self-destructive nature of the human race. "We are our own cause of destruction, which is quite an insight, I think. Hopefully, it is a wakeup call for the world so we don't overstep our boundaries."

In addition to looking out for that powerful message, fans of the original "Planet of the Apes" starring Charlton Heston should keep an ear out for a certain line Felton was honored to deliver.

"I didn't know for sure it was going to be in the cut, but you just confirmed for me, so thank you; I'm very excited to see the infamous line," he said with a smile about the chance to say, "Take your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty ape!" "My dad was so excited about that. He's an old-school fan who grew up with them and loved them, so he'll be pleased to hear that."

Felton's dad might also be pleased to hear that "Apes" director Rupert Wyatt and co-star Andy Serkis had nothing but positive things to say about his son's work ethic and performance.

"He's a man who prepares a great deal," Wyatt said of Felton. "I think this was his first film where he played an American. His accent was flawless. He trained really hard to get it to that place. He's a consummate professional. When you've grown up on a film set, which he has, you can go one of two ways, and Tom is such a gentleman and such a professional. He completely threw himself into that role and was up for anything. It was very inspiring for me as a director to work with someone like that."

"He's just got fantastic energy," Serkis added. "He's so positive. He wants to keep working at it and get it right. And he's great fun as well. He's really great fun."

'Amazing Spider-Man' Sequel Release Set For May 2014

Consider it a mark of confidence on "The Amazing Spider-Man": Sony has already set the release date for its sequel.

The studio announced that "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" will be hitting theaters on May 2, 2014, to kick off that year's summer blockbuster season. So far, Sony is the only superhero-producing studio to plan that far ahead, as neither Marvel nor Warner Bros. has announced any of their upcoming comic book adaptations for three years down the road.

In March, "The Amazing Spider-Man" screenwriter James Vanderbilt was hired to pen the sequel. It seems as though Sony is impressed with the drafts he has brought in, considering they green-lit his second "Spider-Man" film 11 months before "The Amazing Spider-Man" hits theaters.

"I think it speaks volumes about our confidence in what we are seeing on the new film and our desire to move quickly on the next installment," a Sony executive told Deadline Hollywood.

The trailer for "The Amazing Spider-Man" premiered on July 20 to mixed responses. One part in particular that had fans doubtful was a scene at the end of the teaser where the camera switches to a first-person, Spidey Vision perspective. But despite the skepticism, Sony seems confident that their reboot of the "Spider-Man" franchise will premiere as a success.

At San Diego Comic-Con, director Marc Webb explained to MTV News that the effect was an attempt to play around with the "experimental process of 3-D." While the movie itself features a lot of realistic stunt work that wasn't accomplished with CG trickery, Webb also explained that he wanted the 3-D element of the movie to be an integral part of it.

"We shot and conceived of this film in 3-D," he said, "and I wanted there to be moments where you really feel and see the world through Spider-Man's eyes. I wanted to get that visceral feeling. In 3-D, I thought there was something about the experiential process, in a big theatrical environment, that was really special that I had seen. I was like, 'If I'm going to do a movie in 3-D, I want to give the audience that experience.' "

CHICAGO — Pete Wentz has been there before, so he knows the pressure of playing big shows with a new, unknown band. Luckily for him, when his electro-pop combo Black Cards take the stage at Lollapalooza on Friday (August 5) around dinnertime, he'll be back in the loving arms of his hometown of Chicago, with his friends and family looking on.

"It's really exciting, because I've never played [Lollapalooza] before, and to be able to play and hang out with my friends and family and have them see me play is really cool," he said Thursday while in transit from Los Angeles to Chicago. "It's gonna be the biggest audience [for the Black Cards], and I think the other thing that's cool about it ... during the beginning of Black Cards, I don't feel like I was able to completely immerse myself in it, because I had all these other things going on in my life."

With the band's debut album finished, but still in label limbo — and slated to feature guest spots from Travie McCoy, Neon Trees singer Tyler Glenn and reggae artist Shaggy — Wentz said he's just focused on giving fans a sense of Black Cards 2.0.

"One of the greatest things is, we've been rehearsing for this set, and it's just gonna be fun. It's about having a good time," he said. "I think I've always approached music in this way that it has to be a cathartic process and to me this is opposite. To me this is escapism. This is the first time where I've been able to both lock in and really figure out what this band's trying to do."

Tweet your pics from Lollapalooza @MTVNews and they could be featured on MTV.com!

Wentz promised "a bunch" of new songs and a completely different set from the one fans have been seeing for the past year. "To me, this is the relaunch of Black Cards," he said. The tunes the band will play on Friday are "definitely" destined for the album and will be augmented by a handful of "cool" covers, and Wentz guaranteed "as much chaos as the fire marshals allow us to have."

Because he's chilling in his hometown for the rest of the weekend — and plans to check out a Saturday set by former Fall Out Boy bandmate Patrick Stump — Wentz had plans to see everyone from Eminem to Bright Eyes, as well as perform and DJ at his downtown club, Angels & Kings.

While he's a rock star in his own right, even Wentz has a mental list of what other musical titans he'd like to chat up backstage at some point. "I think it would be really cool to run into [Foo Fighters singer] Dave Grohl," he said. "We ran into them once at a show in Germany, and I know everyone always says it, but he turned out to be the nicest guy in rock and roll, without a doubt."

Justin Bieber issued a proud declaration from his Twitter page: "SHAWTY MANE!! I'M BACK!" Bieber, whose MC name is Shawty Mane, appears on Chris Brown's Boy in Detention mixtape rapping on the track "Ladies Love Me."

Brown dropped the mixtape just in time for the weekend on his website, and the Bieber track samples Brown's "Look at Me Now." It was produced by David Banner.

Breezy shows off his signature bad-boy swagger, rapping about all his riches. "My bad/ I'm sorry/ I'm double-parked/ Yeah, that's my Bugatti/ And that's my Ferrari/ Next to my Ducati," he raps. "Man, my house so big take the escalator to the elevator/ Take the elevator to the private and then I jet," goes another verse.

The pals swap verses with the funky beat from "Look at Me Now" behind them. Bieber shows off his own lover-boy swag with lyrics like, "Baby, I'm your doctor/ I could be your rocker/ Swaggin', I'm not braggin' but I swear that I could rock ya, baby/ I'm not crazy/ I got swag like Patrick Swayze."

Bieber and Brown were spotted in the studio last month, and many fans were wondering what they were up to. This release marks Brown's first-ever rap mixtape release. In addition to Bieber, it features appearances from Tyga, Dawn Richard, Wiz Khalifa, Swizz Beatz and Kevin McCall, to name a few. 9th Wonder, DJ Chuckie and No I.D. are a few of the producers who get credits on the mixtape.

This isn't Bieber's first foray into the world of rapping. He rapped on the Sean Kingston track "Won't Stop" and spit some rhymes as Shawty Mane in a Twitter video he posted last year.

It's also a big month for Brown, who's up for several Moonmen at the MTV Video Music Awards later this month. He's nominated for his frantic Chris Tilley-directed video for "Look at Me Now." Brown is also slated to perform at the show.

Brett Ratner is going to the Oscars. No, the "Rush Hour" film director hasn't received an early nomination. Instead, Ratner, along with TV producer/director Don Mischer, has been tapped to produce next year's 84th Annual Academy Awards telecast, according to The Associated Press. This will mark the first time that Ratner has been involved with the show. The announcement was made on Thursday by Academy president Tom Sherak.

Ratner described the gig as a "dream come true," adding, "This wasn't even in my dreams, it's so far out. This is something I never could have imagined."

The filmmaker, who directed the Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker "Rush Hour" comedy trilogy as well as 2006's comic book adaptation "X-Men: The Last Stand," doesn't plan to waste any time when it comes to putting together the awards show, which will air live from the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles on February 26, 2012. "Work begins now," he said. "We're going to hang up the phone and get to work."

Neither Ratner nor Mischer would reveal any of their plans (seeing as how they hadn't even discussed anything yet), but they did say that they want to improve upon last year's ceremony. "Everything is open at this point," Mischer said. "We're just at the starting gate."

The first order of business, however, is to watch tape from past Oscar broadcasts and figure out how to top them. Earlier this year, Anne Hathaway and James Franco co-hosted the annual show. The host for next year's Academy Awards has not yet been announced.

Jackie Chan or Chris Tucker, perhaps? Just a thought

'Planet Of The Apes': The Reviews Are In!

Critics are impressed by reboot's special effects and lifelike apes.
By Terri Schwartz

In an age of Hollywood reboots, remakes and sequels, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" makes the rare move of being a movie in and of itself in spite of its well-known origins.

Critics have responded favorably to Rupert Wyatt's reboot of the "Planet of the Apes" franchise, and MTV's own Movies Blog heralds the flick as being this year's "Batman Begins." Wyatt's sharp directing and the tight script both earned credit from reviewers, but the aspect of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" that had all the critics ready for more was the special-effects work done by WETA. Andy Serkis' Caesar was universally acknowledged as the best part of the movie, and for good reason from what we can tell. But don't let us tell you whether you'll love it or hate it. Check out our roundup of what the critics have to say and make the decision yourself in theaters this weekend.

The Characters
"None of the human plotlines rival Caesar's — not the perfunctory romantic teaming of Franco and Freida Pinto, nor the ongoing corporate chicanery at Gen-Sys, laying sequel groundwork. As tight as the parallel homo sapiens storylines are lax, Caesar's prison conversion to charismatic pan-ape revolutionist is near-silent filmmaking, with simple and precise images illustrating Caesar's General-like divining of personalities and his organization of a group from chaos to order. All of this is shown in absorbing, propulsive style, as Caesar broodingly bides his time like a king in disguise awaiting restoration." — Nick Pinkerton, The Village Voice

The Special Effects
"Even if you don't buy 'Rise' as a semiprofound social document, the utterly seductive integration of apes and men should slacken your jaw in amazement. We have reached that moment in movie history when the century-long chasm between live action and animation has been closed; 'Rise' is a seamless blend of the two. It marks a major advance over 'Avatar,' for it allows the motion-capture actors and the 'real' ones to interact in natural locations — in the wild, so to speak — beyond 'Avatar's' enclosed fantasyland of the planet Pandora. Technical innovation is sometimes yoked to leaden narratives, but Wyatt and his collaborators made sure to wed their visual strategies to potent themes. The result is a work of high, often thrilling popular art." — Richard Corliss, Time

The Morality
"Moral questions about genetic engineering are at the story's core. Caroline (Freida Pinto), a primatologist whom Franco falls for, is the voice of reason: 'I love chimpanzees,' she tells Will. 'I'm also afraid of them. It's appropriate to be afraid of them.' The bond between Will and Caesar heightens the chimp's growing unease about his own identity. When Will and Caroline take him out to a park on a leash, Caesar encounters a German shepherd similarly tethered. The two face off, and Caesar later signs to Will: 'Am I a pet?' Later, Caesar rushes to defend a befuddled Charles as he's bullied by a neighbor and winds up in a prison. Behind bars, Caesar resolves that apes must stage a revolution." — Claudia Puig, USA Today

The Legacy
"In the 1968 original 'Planet of the Apes' (based on the French novel by Pierre Boulle), Charlton Heston's character, an astronaut stranded on a future Earth run by warlike primates, began the movie as a sneering cynic and ended it as an anguished humanist. Being imprisoned and mistreated by animals taught Heston's Taylor the value of his manhood. Caesar, the super-intelligent chimp protagonist of 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' (Twentieth Century Fox), follows the reverse trajectory: He's an ape who reclaims his animal nature after being imprisoned and mistreated by men. Whereas the original was a work of speculative science fiction — a chin-stroking fable about evolution in the nuclear age — this revisiting of the 'Planet of the Apes' myth is an animal-rights manifesto disguised as a prison-break movie. And, unlike the murky 2001 Tim Burton reboot, this movie is a worthy claimant to the simian throne and the rare summer blockbuster that gets more, not less, fun as it goes along." — Dana Stevens, Slate.com

The Final Word
" 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' traces the roots of the venerable franchise back to a single resident of contemporary San Francisco, a supersmart simian named Caesar. In the process, the film, which Rupert Wyatt directed from an audacious screenplay by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, rises above its dramatic deficits, boosts the collective IQ of this summer's movies and swings into flights of kinetic fantasy that blow the collective mind. (If you think you've had it with special effects, wait till you see Caesar and his ape army battling our befuddled species on the Golden Gate Bridge.)" — Joe Morgenstern, The Wall Street Journal

Nearly a month after Michael Todd was arrested following a bizarre robbery at a Massachusetts pharmacy, Coheed and Cambria have parted ways with the bassist.

The band made the announcement Thursday on their Tumblr page in a post titled "The Future," writing:

"After a lot of thought, introspection and discussion, Coheed and Cambria will be continuing our journey without bassist Michael Todd. We have spoken to him and this is a mutual decision between both parties," their statement reads. "Michael was a great contributor; our hearts go out to his family and to all those who appreciate his talents. We wish him nothing but the very best."

A spokesperson for the band could not be reached for comment by press time.

Todd was arrested on July 10, just hours before Coheed were set to play a show at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts, after he allegedly walked into a Walgreens pharmacy and told an employee he had a bomb. According to police, Todd demanded to be given the painkiller Oxycontin, and fled the scene in a cab, with six bottles of the drug. He was charged with armed robbery and possession of a class B controlled substance. Coheed played that night's show — and subsequent dates — with multi-instrumentalist Wes Styles replacing Todd on bass.

Todd was arraigned on July 11, and his bond was set at $25,000 cash. He posted bail on July 25, and is due back in court on August 9.

Coheed wrote in their statement that they were "currently writing and recording songs for a new album," and concluded by telling fans "a new chapter awaits."

Taylor Swift's glittering, empowering "Mean" video nabbed an MTV Video Music Award nod thanks to its feel-good theme. It's up for Best Video With a Message. This is the first time MTV is handing out a Moonman in this category, but given that over the past year more and more music videos have aimed to send fans positive messages, it feels like the right time to do it.

The video follows Swift as she makes her way from small-town performer to full-fledged superstar. Little vignettes also follow other characters as they go from being bullied to being empowered.

The nod seems to have Swift quite excited. She tweeted, "Wait, what?! The 'Mean' video got nominated for a VMA!! BEYOND excited. If you feel like voting ...... MTV.com." She followed the message with not one but three smiley faces.

Swift's video will face off against Lady Gaga's "Born This Way," Katy Perry's "Firework," Pink's "F---in' Perfect," Eminem featuring Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie" and Rise Against's "Make It Stop (September's Children)." All the clips are being recognized for having a positive social message.

The new category spotlights the intersection of music and social activism, highlighting artists who've raised awareness of some of the most pressing issues facing today's youth, from bullying and LGBT discrimination to domestic violence and struggles with self-image.

MTV News spoke to "Mean" director Declan Whitebloom after the clip was released earlier this year. He explained that Swift wanted the video to mirror the song's message. "We all have similar stories in our life that hit similar emotional cues, and to open it up and make it broader about lots of people and situations ... makes it much more accessible," he said. "It means more in a general way. I think [the message] goes across the board."

The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. See the list of nominees, revisit last year's highlights and vote for your favorites in the general categories by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

'The Change-Up': The Reviews Are In!

The Jason Bateman/ Ryan Reynolds body-switching movie has critics less than thrilled.

If you believe the critics, Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds weren't lying when they said that "The Change-Up" was "crap" and a "stupid f---ing idea" during their recent media rounds.

The body-switching comedy was heralded by critics as a tired film concept, and the "Change-Up" stars agreed with that sentiment. Bateman's promise when he went on "The Daily Show" this week was that the movie would "please you post-switch." But with the movie clocking in at a low 22 percent rotten on Rotten Tomatoes at press time, it sounds like movie reviewers didn't think the flick worked after Reynolds and Bateman swapped bodies either.

Some said it was the gross-out, foul-mouthed humor in the movie, while others thought it was the failure of the script to provide anything original in the comedy. Still, others said that seeing Bateman and Reynolds act out each other's shticks was worth the time spent. So before you head to the theater this weekend, take a look at our round-up of "The Change-Up" reviews and make the decision yourself!

The Plot
" 'The Change-Up,' from 'Wedding Crashers' director David Dobkin and written by 'The Hangover' scribes Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, is raucous and entertaining but unexciting. It distinguishes itself from the others by not particularly distinguished means: the headlong rush to the R rating. The two disparate characters swapping places are old friends Dave (Jason Bateman) and Mitch (Ryan Reynolds). Mitch is an idiot who swears incessantly; every other word out of his mouth begins with F. (No one swears as gratuitously as Mitch unless they have a disorder.) The movie takes what is a fleeting pleasure — seeing the typically straitlaced Bateman use that word even around children — and makes it a lingering (and boring) theme." — Mary Pols, Time

The Stars
"Reynolds can make almost any character likable, and his Mitch/Dave has some humorous moments. Still, it's hard to buy his extreme persona. And by the end that character seems to have disappeared entirely, replaced by a bland facsimile. It's fun to see Bateman, usually the straight man, let loose and embrace some aspects of his pal's uninhibited wildness. Both emerge with charisma intact, rising above the underlying schmaltzy message." — Claudia Puig, USA Today

The Script
"The thing is, this could have been funny. It's always amusing when Bateman lets loose, and Reynolds is clearly ready to send up his 'Van Wilder' roots. But director David Dobkin and his writers, Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, are primarily occupied with forcing mean-spirited, gross-out humor into every possible scene. As a result, the script — smug but never smart — barely scratches the surface of the movie's actual potential." — Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News

The Humor
"Here you will see projectile pooping into faces. Two men exposing themselves and urinating in a 'magic fountain' in a shopping mall in the presence of small children. Three tattoo artists closely scrutinizing a woman's vagina. Women systematically required to bare their breasts. Language in which non-obscene words provide an oasis. Best buddies essentially sharing the same wife. OK, OK. In the context of a different movie, I can imagine all of those things working in a comedy. Except the public pissing. I think we can all agree that's problematical." — Rogert Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

The Final Word
"Lucas, Moore, and Dobkin have trafficked in — some would say 'exploited' — the permutations of male friendship. You don't entirely trust the friendship in the movie they've made together. It's too much a springboard to be real. Suspecting that, they send the comedy barreling toward you. They don't suspend disbelief. They wedgie it." — Wesley Morris, The Boston Globe
