Jay-Z And Kanye West's Watch The Throne Will Last 'Forever'

Behind the Beats: Hit-Boy
Kanye West has a multiplatinum collection of hit records, but for Watch the Throne, his collaborative album with Jay-Z, the Louis Vuitton Don has had no problem sharing production duties. One of the album's producers is relative newcomer Hit-Boy, who also happens to be signed to 'Ye's G.O.O.D. Music label.

Hit-Boy is no stranger to big records or high-powered pairings; he produced Lil Wayne and Eminem's 2010 single "Drop the World." Now, he looks to further extend his discography on "N---as in Paris" off WTT.

" 'N----as in Paris' came about from me having a beat idea already. When I went to New York, I just further went into it," Hit-Boy told Mixtape Daily. "It was just a batch of beats. Kanye asked me for some beats, and that was one of the beats I gave him."

The song appropriately was recorded in Paris during one of the many storied Watch the Throne globetrotting sessions. Hit-Boy, however, didn't get to make the trip, so instead he sent all the necessary files so Hov and Yeezy could complete the track. "They actually went over to Paris; I didn't get to make that trip," he said. "Next thing I know, they're like, 'Yo, I need all the files for that beat.'

"That particular beat was just energetic," Hit-Boy added. "It's something that can be played in the club, it's something that can be played on radio. It's a more of a fun type record. Just different flows, the way that they rode the beat, it's just new, it's fresh."

There is no doubt that Hit-Boy is accomplished after already having done beats for Mary J. Blige ("Stronger") and Chris Brown ("Froze"), but this particular placement means a lot more to him. "To do a beat on this album is definitely a dream come true," he said of his work with the Throne. "Just for me to work with them period, but this album is really just a staple. This is something that's gonna be forever."

Watch the Throne Week is on! Check in with MTV News every day until Wednesday for exclusive content surrounding the release of Jay-Z and Kanye West's eagerly anticipated LP.

Lollapalooza Still Gaining Steam After 20 Years

Pete Wentz is excited for Black Cards' Lolla debut this weekend.
By Gil Kaufman

Before 1991, when and if it was used, the term "lollapalooza" was merely a way to describe something that was really, really awesome. Then Jane's Addiction frontman and modern shaman Perry Farrell wrapped his spindly arms around the anachronistic term and molded it into the modern definition of an American music festival.

When the gates open Friday (August 5) on this year's edition of Lollapalooza, all the names and faces will be different from that first touring edition of the granddaddy of American festivals, but one thing will remain unchanged: the music.

Asked if he ever imagined Lolla would still be around 20 years down the line (the first touring edition ran from 1991 to 2003 before being reborn as a destination event in Chicago in 2005), co-founder and Lolla partner Marc Geiger said, well, yes. "Someone pulled a quote from 1995 with me where I said, 'We're doing this now so we can still be around in 2010,' " said the legendary music agent, who was one of the first ones to buy into Farrell's vision of a traveling carnival that brought together music, sideshow acts, art and socially conscious vendors while melding rap, rock, punk and every other kind of music under the sun.

And while music has fractured into a million different micro-genres since the days when bands as diverse as the Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, Cypress Hill, Metallica, Cheap Trick and Snoop Dogg could each find a home at Lolla, in some ways, Geiger said it's even simpler today than it was back when the "alternative" music fanbase was much smaller.

"It's easier when you're dealing with more numbers. With 130 bands, you can hit more genres in general, whether it's folk or techno house, there's just a bunch of room under the heading of 'good music,' " he said. "One year, we did Metallica and also had the Cocteau Twins ... and now you have Coldplay vs. deadmau5."

That concept is borne out by this year's mashed-up roster, which over the course of three days (Friday through Sunday) will range from such headliners as Muse, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Eminem, Cee Lo Green and My Morning Jacket to dance acts Afrojack, Modeselektor, Skrillex and Glitch Mob, as well as indie acts such as the Mountain Goats and Best Coast. VMA-nominated bands Cage the Elephant and Foster the People are also in the mix, along with VMA performers Young the Giant.

Former Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz was only 12 years old when the original festival launched, but ever since it put down roots in his childhood hometown, he's been a regular. And this year's event is even more special, since he'll be performing at Lolla for the first time ever with his new band, the electro-pop combo Black Cards. "I remember hearing about it as a kid and wondering, 'What is this thing with all these crazy bands on it?,' " Wentz told MTV News. "They had really taken the European model and changed it and made it this touring thing."

Like so many over the years, Wentz could vividly recall transcendent musical moments he's had at Lollapalooza, which unfolds in the city's scenic Grant Park over a huge expanse of green space that gives it one of the most unique urban music-festival settings in the world. "I remember watching Girl Talk [in 2008] on one of the small stages, and it was absolutely bonkers," he said of the mash-up DJ's now-legendary set at that year's event. The bassist also remembered how, after that Girl Talk set, he was tired and ragged when, while walking past the golf-cart path outside the fence, Farrell himself barreled by. "He stopped the cart and told us to get on the back. He said, 'You guys look beat. Get in.' That was a pretty rad thing for him to do."

Wentz also mused about the 2007 headlining set by techno masters Daft Punk, which he said was probably one of the most insane outdoor concert experiences he's ever had. "I was standing out in the crowd when the pyramid lit up, and I was thinking, 'This would be the perfect time for somebody to do hallucinogenic drugs,' " he said. "But I don't do them."

Geiger thinks that 20 years in Lollapalooza has become a kind of musical rite of passage for each new generation. "Everything has changed [since we started]," he said, noting that the event now draws more than 285,000 over three days with a massive lineup that he likens to a kind of scavenger hunt. "The difference between Lollapalooza and other festivals is that you have the food, the aftershows at clubs, the lakefront site ... it's not like going to the Southside of Chicago for a festival for eight hours. You are there for two to three days and there's more friends, more leisure time and more planning on where you want to go and what you want to see."

As for what sets it apart from similarly sprawling fests like Coachella or Bonnaroo, Geiger laughed: "Location, location, location."

Eminem, Royce Da 5'9" 'Lighters' Video Coming 'Very Soon'

Bruno Mars calls clip for Bad Meets Evil single 'very beautiful.'

Bruno Mars was enlisted by Eminem and Royce Da 5'9" for their Bad Meets Evil Hell: The Sequel track "Lighters". The sweeping, inspirational track mixes Em's penchant for spitting fire, Royce's keen pop-culture eye and Bruno's smooth pop sensibility.

The trio was spotted shooting the song's video at the tail-end of July. When MTV News caught up with VMA nominee Mars this week, he shared that the Rich Lee-directed clip will certainly leave fans as inspired as the song does. "We shot the video ... that should be coming out very, very soon," he said. "But that's their baby, so I'm not going to blow the lid."

Instead of revealing any actual video details, Mars decided to show off his comedic side about what he is doing in the video. "I'm doing handstands, and I'm juggling naked," he joked, laughing. "No, I'm not doing all that, but I am naked."

Fans will have to wait to see if that promise is true (we're guessing it's not), and it seems that Mars will too, since he has yet to see the video. "It's a very beautiful [video]. I haven't even seen it yet, but I think it's going to be beautiful," he said.

Bruno certainly has racked up quite the pedigree over the past two years to appear on such a high-profile track, and he joked about how the project came his way: "It was a freestyle battle. I said, 'Yo Em, if I beat you, you're gonna have to do a song with me.' I shut him down right then and there."

The song has Bruno wondering who he wants to work with next, including a man who famously declared "F--- You." "I would love to get back into the studio with Cee Lo [Green]. I'd love to work with Lil Wayne. There's so many people out there," he said. "I'm so proud of this Eminem song with Royce Da 5'9". I'm happy with the way that's going, but this is just the very beginning. There's a lot more to come."

'Change-Up' Blurs Line Between Ryan Reynolds, Jason Bateman

'Some of them stuck with me,' Reynolds tells MTV News of picking up Bateman's mannerisms on set.

In order to properly fulfill their duties as characters who swap bodies in raunchy comedy "The Change-Up," stars Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman spent some quality time learning each other's respective personality traits and mannerisms. Unsurprisingly, when the film wrapped, the real-life friends found that letting go of their newly acquired traits wasn't easy.

"Some of them stuck with me," Reynolds told MTV News, recalling a phrase he had used earlier. "Like when I said 'real long,' that's you," he said, turning to Bateman. "I'm doing you right there."

"This guy will motivate you to work a little bit harder," Bateman said, shifting the discussion toward flat-out praise for Reynolds' acting abilities, including his impression of Bateman himself. "[What] some actors will do when you're doing comedies is that, during the time it takes between when you rehearse a scene and when you shoot it, they light the scene," he explained. "You go in your dressing room, and if you have a good work ethic, you'll write down some extra jokes to say when they shoot the scene. This guy, they just fall right out of his head, quickly and as high-quality as Mr. Vince Vaughn. I don't have those skills," Bateman admitted. "I have to write stuff down. He forces my game up quite a bit, so I did a lot of studying in my trailer."

"What a nice thing to say," Reynolds said to Bateman.

When asked if either actor ever felt awkward watching his friend impersonate the other onscreen, Reynolds admitted that Bateman did such a good job that he felt envious of his friend's role.

"You know what was unsettling is he did it so damn well that I sort of sat there going, 'God, I should have played that part,' " he admitted. " 'I should have done that one. That looks like fun.' "

'Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes' Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

Posted: 05 Aug 2011 03:53 AM PDT

Simian franchise is back — and seemingly better than ever.
By Eric Ditzian

Forty-three-year-old spoiler alert! At the end of 1968's "Planet of the Apes," Charlton Heston stumbles into one of the great twists in movie history, discovering that the land full of talking simians and enslaved humans is not some alien world but, as the half-buried Statue of Liberty reveals, our own Earth.

Ever since, the franchise has been engrained in our pop-culture DNA, introducing a series of damn-dirty-apes and God-damn-you-all-to hell catchphrases and spawning a series of increasingly silly sequels, the last of which was Tim Burton's forgettable-if-not-so-infuriatingly-vapid "Planet of the Apes." Time (and Hollywood), in other words, has been about as kind to the franchise as nuclear weapons were to Heston's apocalyptic surroundings.

All that, however, is about to change. Director Rupert Wyatt has delivered, in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," a prequel that not only is a worthy successor to the original film, but stands on its own as a kick-ass summer flick. How'd he pull off such a feat? That's an answer to be found in our cheat sheet: everything you need to know about "Rise of the Planet of the Apes."

In the Beginning
In spring 2010, it was simply called "Rise of the Apes," Fox's attempt to resurrect the franchise after Burton delivered a hefty box-office gross but failed to excite the masses about those dirty apes. James Franco reportedly beat out a line of young Hollywood talent for the role of the scientist who, on a quest to cure Alzheimer's, accidently creates a super-smart chimp that ... oh, just refer back to the film's title and you'll get the idea.

Freida Pinto soon signed on to play his love interest (and a brillz scientist in her own right), John Lithgow joined up to play Franco's Alzheimer's-afflicted father and Tom Felton became a cruel guard of an ape prison. But the true casting coup came when Andy Serkis, who played a motion-capture Gollum in the "Lord of the Rings" series, took on the role of the ape Caesar, the CGI leader of his kind's revolution.

All this promised to make this "Apes" far different than any before it, a point Franco emphasized when we caught up with him last October. "Where the other films provide commentary about class relations, race relations, interspecies relations, different cultures clashing, this movie is more of a Frankenstein story," he said.

A New World
Production kicked off in summer 2010, but we wouldn't get our first official peek at the movie until the following February, when a rather uninspiring photo of Franco in character popped up online. April brought not only a tweaked title (it was now, rather longwindedly, called "Rise of the Planet of the Apes"), but the first footage. Damn, those apes looked good! Credit goes to the techies at Weta Digital, who created the motion-captured aliens in "Avatar" and the creatures running wild in the new "Ape" footage.

"I watched it a hundred times," Felton told us about the trailer. "The special effects are ridiculous. The first question when I showed it to my friends was, 'Wow, how did they get the monkeys so well-trained?' I'm like, 'None of them were real!' It's quite weird to see so much CG effects in the real world, not some computer-generated world like 'Avatar.' "

Apes, Risen
The summer months brought a slew of new trailers, clips and photos — almost too many. Leave us a little mystery, OK? But then again, when you have a movie whose title essentially gives away the ending, there's not a lot to be spoiled, right?

Franco feared his high public profile would affect the reception of the film. Wyatt, though, wasn't worried. "I think people are going to see this film, hopefully, for the film," he told MTV News. "Those that will go see this film for James Franco will still see the film for James Franco. I totally understand where he's coming from. Obviously he took a bit of a knock with the Oscars, but at the end of the day, he's an actor and that's his job."

And Franco is part of one of our favorite popcorn flicks of the summer. So where does the franchise go from here? That depends a lot on how action at the box office shakes out. But the film is certainly set up for a sequel, and Wyatt knows exactly where he wants to take the story.

"This is a very, very self-contained film in the same way that you can say 'Spartacus' is," he explained. "I mean, it's the story of a revolutionary microcosm. And yes, there will potentially be a greater conflict, a more global conflict, a more continental conflict, in terms of what comes after this. And that would be wonderful."

Jay-Z 'Uncle Otis' Dis Isn't 'Personal,' Game Says

Posted: 04 Aug 2011 04:13 AM PDT

'I don't think Hov is gonna respond,' Game says on 'RapFix Live.'
By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway

Game might never pick a lyrical fight with Eminem, but he has no problem sending barbs toward rap great Jay-Z. On Wednesday's "RapFix Live," Game clarified that his recently released dis track "Uncle Otis" is not to be taken personally by any of the rappers he took shots at. That list includes: 50 Cent, Kreayshawn, Big Sean and, of course, Jay-Z.

" 'Jay' rhymes with a lot of words," Game told MTV News' Sway Calloway. "So whenever you're writing, it always pops in somehow or another. I shoot shots in the dark sometimes, but they ain't to be taken personal."

Game's shots in the dark have ruffled some feathers. His Big Sean swipe caused a stir among the G.O.O.D. Music rapper's fans who took issue with Game on Twitter this past weekend. Sean addressed "Uncle Otis" on July 27 during a radio appearance on Power 105.1's the Breakfast Club morning show in New York City. "I didn't even take it as a dis. I took it as him doing what he do. Don't he got an album that's about to come out?" Big Sean said of Game's verse.

The L.A. rapper takes a swipe at Jay early in the track, making fun of Jigga's age. The Roc Nation rapper is 41 years old. "Here's a dome shot to this n---a named Otis/ N---as think they the coldest, but n---a you just the oldest/ N---as just be chasin' their youth, but it's gone/ Yo 'Ye this n---a ain't even wanna put you on."

Game said he doesn't expect Hov to fire back. "Certain people you know that ain't gonna respond: I don't think Hov is gonna respond, and if he does, it'll be another shot in the dark subliminally or indirect, and I think that's cool because Hov is a legend," he said.

This isn't the first time Game launched insults at Jay. On his 2006 single "It's Okay (One Blood)," the Compton MC rapped, "You 38, and you're still rappin' ugh," a line that Jay actually acknowledged on his 2006 song "The Prelude."

Game appreciates the back and forth. "Anytime that he takes time out of his day to say something like, 'I used to think that rappin' at 38 was ill, till last year I grossed $38 mil,' ... I think it's cool."

'Amazing Spider-Man' Villain A 'Mentor And Adversary'

Rhys Ifans' Curt Connors, a.k.a. the Lizard, has lost an arm just as Peter Parker has lost his parents, director Marc Webb tells MTV News.

It's a familiar trend in superhero movies for the protagonist to feel a kinship with the villain. Just look at Batman and the Joker, or Professor Xavier and Magneto. But "The Amazing Spider-Man" director Marc Webb told MTV News that the concept will be taken to the next degree in his film.

Curt Connors, a.k.a. the Lizard, will be played by Rhys Ifans in the latest "Spider-Man" incarnation. Connors has lost his arm and, as Webb explained, "That desire to get that arm back corrupts him in some way." But the connection between him and leading man Peter Parker, played by Andrew Garfield, is that Parker is also looking for something that he's lost: his parents.

"Curt Connors is both a mentor and an adversary, and that's what I think is fascinating about that villain character," Webb told MTV News at San Diego Comic-Con. "That's what makes this story different."

Ifans echoed similar sentiments when MTV News caught up with him in San Diego, saying Connors doesn't see himself as a villain and "wants to save the world," so that element adds an additional layer to his character. But at the film's heart, Connors' relationship with Parker will keep audiences interested.

"In the same way as Peter is looking for his parents, Curt is looking to complete the circle in his life," Ifans explained. "They both dance to the tune of the same moral question."

Webb said "The Amazing Spider-Man" is definitely going to deal with Parker's missing parents, which is something the previous three "Spider-Man" movies didn't touch upon. There have been many different versions of that story line in the comics, including one where Parker's parents are actually CIA agents, but Webb said they would be telling their own story in "The Amazing Spider-Man."

"We're creating a world of our own devising, but we take cues from the comics," he explained. "In terms of the CIA agent thing, we aren't really going down that road in particular, not in this movie anyways, but there's a lot of stuff to explore and define and that was part of the fun of creating this universe in a new and different way."

'The Lazy Song' clip is up against Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and LMFAO for Best Choreography.

Bruno Mars' heartfelt clip for "Grenade" is up for three Moonmen at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards: Video of the Year, Best Male Video and Best Pop Video. He's obviously very excited by these three nods, but it's his fourth that really gets "The Lazy Song" singer going.

He can't wait to see if he can beat out Beyoncé ("Run the World (Girls)"), Britney Spears ("Till the World Ends"), Lady Gaga ("Judas") and LMFAO ("Party Rock Anthem") for Best Choreography for his track about just wanting to stay home and chill out.

"You know what I'm excited for? As much as I put blood, sweat and tears into 'Grenade,' I'm excited for 'The Lazy Song,' Best Choreography," he dished to MTV News. "That is amazing."

In the video, Bruno is captured hanging out at home, dancing around his living room and monkeying around with a few, well, monkeys. "I called up my friends the Poreotics [from 'America's Best Dance Crew'] and we shot this and choreographed this in one day," he recalled of the fun video. "And I think that would be the coolest thing ever if I went home and saw a Moonman that said: Best Choreography, Bruno Mars, 'The Lazy Song.' "

As silly and ironic as it seems for the singer to win the award for that track, he did put a lot of the same "blood, sweat and tears" into it as he did for "Grenade." "We worked really hard on it, and we wanted to give people something to laugh at and show personality in the song and what we're talking about," he said. " 'The Lazy Song' is not necessarily the song you want to hear in the club, but we put our monkey dance to it."

The 28th annual will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. See the list of nominees, revisit last year's highlights and vote for your favorites in the general categories by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

Jay-Z And Kanye West's 'Otis' Gets LOX Makeover

Jadakiss and Styles P tell MTV News they jumped on the Throne single the day it premiered on Hot 97.

When the Throne dropped their single "Otis," MCs across the rap world took notice. Many sought out the song's instrumental in an effort to do their own freestyle version of the Kanye West and Jay-Z collaborative single. So far, DMX, Freeway, Young Chris, Tinie Tempah and Skillz have tried their hand at the beat. For Jadakiss and Styles P, the decision to take on the Watch the Throne single was an easy one.

"It was a mean beat, it was a mean song, something both of us liked, and we felt like it was a New York song. It was hot," Styles P told MTV News.

Jadakiss said he knew he and Styles had to take on the song the same day the Otis Redding-sampling track premiered on Hot 97. "[Funkmaster] Flex was playin' it," Jada explained. "After about the 99th time, I was like, 'I think we gotta go in on this. I gotta call SP,' " he said. "When I called him, he was listening to it in the background, and he said the same thing I was tellin' him. That made it crazy: He was thinking the same thing I was thinking."

There was one problem, however: Producer Kanye West had not released the instrumental, so Styles called on Boston producer DJ Statik Selektah, who recreated 'Ye's beat from scratch. "He sent it over nice and looped up, so then once we got it, [it took] maybe like 24 hours [to record]," 'Kiss said.

On the original "Otis," Hov and Yeezy flow back and forth, rhyming eight bars at a time before passing the mic. That particular tactic is most effective when the two collaborating artists have chemistry: The better the chemistry, the better the exchange. It's the type of chemistry that Jada and Styles, who make up two-thirds of the Yonkers, New York, trio the LOX, have displayed for the better part of their 15-year career.

Regarding how he and his partner decide who rhymes what and when, Styles explained there are "mad different ways to do it. It depends how it feels."

Jada added, "With 'Otis,' we wanted to follow their format and then switch it," noting the difference between the LOX version and the Throne version. "They were doin' eight [bars a piece], so we did an eight, then fours, then twos."

By the close of the track, the duo went from rhyming eight-bar verses to going line-for-line in a lyrical show of camaraderie. "Usually, we make it a little more in and out than that," Styles said. "But we still did it at the end."

Lady Gaga will sit down with Jean Paul Gaultier in the designer's Paris studio for an upcoming special set to air on the CW this September, during which she will talk about her control over her image and her beloved Little Monsters.

The channel announced that the singer and the designer will appear in the interview special, called "Gaga by Gaultier," airing on September 12 from 8 to 9:15 p.m. The program will be followed by "The CW 2011 Fall Preview Special," hosted by "Nikita" star Maggie Q and "Ringer" star Kristoffer Polaha, Reuters reports.

Gaga recently shared that her highly anticipated video for "You and I" will drop as her 1,000th tweet. As of press time, Gaga had written 991 tweets, making her nine away from the video's premiere.

The video was shot in Nebraska, and Gaga shared that it's about the lengths one goes to when he or she is in love. "It was actually kind of perfect the way it worked out 'cause the premise of the video is that I've walked all the way from New York City to Nebraska to get him back," she said. "I'm walking with no luggage and no nothing, and it's just me and my ankles are bleeding a little bit and there's grass stuck in my shoes and I've got this outfit on and it's real sort of New York clothing and I'm sprinting.

"And the [video is about the] idea that when you're away from someone you love, it's torture," she continued. "I knew I wanted the video to be about me sprinting back and walking hundreds of thousands of miles to get him back."

Britney Spears might be the Femme Fatale, but that doesn't mean she can't share the stage with a guy too. After announcing he'd be opening up for Spears at her tour stop in New Jersey, Joe Jonas announced Thursday (August 4) that he'd also be her opening act for stops in Europe.

People reports that the singer — who drops his first-ever solo album, Fast Life, in October — will be on hand for nine dates, including stops in Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Ireland and the United Kingdom. Spears heads to Europe in September after she wraps up the North American leg of her tour August 25. Her European leg ends in November before she heads to South America for a handful of dates.

"I'm really looking forward to being part of this," Jonas said of the jaunt. "It's a dream come true." He added that the warm-up gig will be an expanded version of smaller shows he's been playing these past few months in places like Chicago and New York. "I'll be playing more music than I have the past few times I've performed live so far. It's going to be really fun to perform some of my music from the album."

Jonas met Spears a few years back at the VMAs and said "she's a very sweet lady" and that, as a kid, he had a bit of a crush on the singer. "She was the first girl I ever had a poster on my wall of, and her album was the first CD I ever bought," he said. "It's so funny to think I had that on my wall and here I am about to perform with her."

Jonas recently wrapped up the music video for "Just in Love With You," which he filmed in Paris. It serves as the follow-up single to "See No More." Fast Life hits stores October 11.

Fire Starter: Los

Baltimore rapper Los sure is confident in his ability. Then again, why wouldn't he be? The DMV representative got his start locally, then signed with Diddy's Bad Boy label around 2005. The deal didn't pan out, but now Los, who has been a free agent since 2008, is aiming for rap's top spot: He thinks he has a shot at one day surpassing the likes of rap kings Jay-Z, Kanye West and Lil Wayne.

Los' upcoming mixtape, The Crown Ain't Safe, is a proclamation of his self-perceived greatness. "When I say The Crown Ain't Safe, I just mean whoever is viewed as #1," Los told Mixtape Daily before referencing basketball great Michael Jordan and his onetime sidekick. "I just feel like it's for the taking. Why wouldn't you want to be #1? I'm not Scottie Pippen: I want to be #1."

He almost had his shot: After an audition for Diddy during which Los performed a 10-minute freestyle for the hip-hop mogul, the young spitter earned himself a deal. But after Los' street-affiliated independent label Block Incorporated disbanded, Diddy backed out. Los was released from the label in 2008 without ever dropping an album. He then began to freestyle over popular rap tracks like "A Milli" and post them on YouTube, building his buzz virally.

In total, Los estimates he's recorded 10 mixtapes since 2008, including his latest, Worth the Wait, a tape inspired by Lil Wayne. "The competitive nature of this art form drives me," he explained. "Wayne dropped Sorry 4 the Wait, and it just gave me this idea: 'Man, I got a project coming out, and people are kinda waiting for it too. I'll drop Worth the Wait.' "

Worth the Wait is merely an appetizer for what Los hopes will be his biggest tape, the ambitiously titled The Crown Ain't Safe. He makes no reservations about wanting to eventually be the game's top rapper, but Los insists he isn't launching any personal attacks.

"Jay-Z, I would never disrespect him. I have an immense amount of respect, principles and morals. I'm not just some cannon coming at people," he said. "I just feel like there are ways to be better than Jay-Z, there are ways to be better than Kanye West. When you talk about success and artistry and doing amazing works, these guys are on a whole nother planet. You won't surpass that because that's a legacy that they left. It's because of that you get to do what you do. But I just think the future is always incredible."

'Superman': First Look At 'Man Of Steel' Hits Net

New photo offers glimpse of star Henry Cavill in what seems to be a very different costume.

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's ... your first look at Henry Cavill as Superman in Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel."

Warner Bros. released the first still of the "Immortals" star in action on Thursday (August 4), and he certainly looks different than Supermen past. In fact, the texture and coloring of his suit actually looks more like what we've seen so far of Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man getup in "The Amazing Spider-Man," than the costumes Christopher Reeves or even Brandon Routh popularized in their respective "Superman" movies.

Also notably lacking in the image of Cavill is the Superman curl, which recently got a lot of press attention after the actor was spotted rocking it at San Diego Comic-Con.

The Man of Steel also looks distracted, judging by his facial expression, by whatever has led him to the bank vault (or aircraft interior?) he appears to be standing in. Just above him, sparks are flying.

Check out our photographic analysis of the Man of Steel.

When MTV News caught up with Cavill at WonderCon in April, he warned that this re-imagining of the popular superhero would differ from fans' popular perception of Superman. "It's going to be different, but not so different that it's unrecognizable," he said.

"Man of Steel" recently saw a production delay that pushed its release date to June 14, 2013. As Comic-Con last month, Cavill told us the delay caught him by surprise but he would not let it affect his enthusiasm for the project.

"They broke it to me gently," he said. "I was just told the other day. It's OK; it's nothing to do with me. That's stuff which I have no control over. I just focus on the character and do my job."

Black Lips And VitaminWater 'Give Bands A Chance'

Atlanta's skuzzy and fuzzy Black Lips may not be the first band you'd think of when it comes to corporate tie-ins — since most big brands tend to frown on stuff like onstage urination — and yet here they are, talking about joining forces with VitaminWater for a nationwide series of free concerts called "Uncapped."

And to frontman Jared Swilley, it sort of makes perfect sense.

"[It's] a series of concerts that we've curated across the country ... giving bands a chance to get out there and make some money and get some people to hear them," he told MTV News. "[In] Chicago, we've got the Mannequin Men; in Minneapolis, we've got Birthday Suits, and we've played with them a lot of times over the years. They're cool. They're from Japan."

"It's cool they get the opportunity to get up there and play for an audience that might not have known about them before," drummer Joe Bradley added.

In fact, the whole point of "Uncapped" seems to be shining a spotlight on underappreciated acts — like Mannequin Men, Birthday Suits, Hollows and rappers French Montana and Pill — with a series of free, kick-ass parties across the country. And that, uh, exposure (pun intended, given the Black Lips' penchant for nudity-filled live sets) is part of the reason Swilley and company signed on. After all, they've been on the road since the early 2000s, most recently in support of their crackling, Mark Ronson-produced Arabia Mountain album, and they've come to appreciate just how tough it can be to break through. But that's not to say touring — and partnering with VitaminWater — doesn't have its perks.

"We've been on tour for four months, and I would say, just the same as it was in the Vietnam War, socks [are important]," Swilley said. "Socks are a big thing that's on our rider ... water. VitaminWater actually helps."

Dr. Dre Will Narrate Game's Entire R.E.D. Album

On 'RapFix Live,' Game explains his favorite track, 'Good, Bad, Ugly.'

Game knows a thing or two about movies. Though he is first regarded for his skills on the mic, the L.A. MC starred in flicks like "Waist Deep" and the straight-to-DVD "Belly 2." Seems like he hasn't rid himself of the acting, because on Wednesday's "RapFix Live," Game told MTV News' Sway Calloway that his upcoming The R.E.D. Album has a cinematic feel.

He then went on to reveal another nice nugget about the LP: "The album is real theatrical; it's a movie," he said. "And it's narrated by Dr. Dre — the entire album."

On the set of his "Pot of Gold" video in July, Game announced that Dre would be rapping on the album, and last week, "Drug Test" featuring Dre and Snoop Dogg leaked onto the Internet. Now fans can expect to hear the producer/rapper's voice throughout the duration of the LP.

Dre, who originally signed Game to his Aftermath label and oversaw the rapper's debut, The Documentary, has played a limited role in the rapper's career since Game's fallout with 50 Cent, who is also signed to Dre's Aftermath. Since then, the West Coast production icon hasn't contributed beats or vocals to any of Game's subsequent albums. And though the two have since reconciled and have been spotted in the studio together, this will mark the first time that they've actually collaborated on album-worthy material.

The Good Doctor's involvement isn't the only thing Game is excited about when it comes to The R.E.D. Album. He also broke down for Sway the concept behind his favorite track, "Good, Bad, Ugly."

"It's a real quick story about a day in the hood," Game said. "I'm telling a story to police, but as we do growing up in the hood trying to get ourselves out of trouble, once we're apprehended, we make up a couple of different stories. At the end, after we done been in there for damn near a whole day being interrogated, the truth comes out."

On the track, he captures the intricacies of a police interrogation. "From beginning to end, I'm changing the story. Certain parts of the story are still the same in the second verse, but it gets loose," he explained. "All the way at the end, I tell 'em the truth, but right when I tell 'em the truth, it's like a to-be-continued movie, because it goes right into Rick Ross spittin' his verse on the next song."

Coldplay Debut New Track On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!'

Coldplay premiered their massive new single "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall" earlier this summer, and on Wednesday night, the British rock band appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and debuted another new track, "Charlie Brown," from their forthcoming album. The performance marked the first time they had played either "Charlie Brown" or "Every Teardrop" on American TV.

"Charlie Brown" is an atmospheric, anthemic track that can be described as Coldplay doing Coldplay. A thumping beat danced behind the glittering guitars of the song as Martin went on with gloomy observations and meditations like "I stole a key/ And took a car downtown where the lost boys meet/ Took a car downtown and took what they offered me," and "In my scarecrow dreams/ When they smashed into smithereens/ Be a bright red rose come burst to concrete/ Be a cartoon heart."

During the episode, Kimmel shared that the band was the first ever to play his show. And when asked what they've been up to in the years since, Martin joked, "Will [Champion] worked at FedEx and the rest of us run a pet shop."

The guys performed in front of a large crowd at UCLA's Los Angeles Tennis Center as part of the Samsung AT&T Summer Krush concert series. According to Billboard.com, the show was a full-scale concert that helped raise money for the Grammy Foundation's Grammy in the Schools music education program.

The 90-minute set included 18 songs, which were a mix of old favorites ("Yellow," "Clocks," "Viva La Vida") and a number of tunes off their new album ("Major Minus," "Moving to Mars"), as well as a tribute to Amy Winehouse — the band played Winehouse's "Rehab" leading into "Fix You," a song Chris Martin wrote for wife Gwyneth Paltrow after her father died.

Didn't get an invite to Kim Kardashian's wedding to basketballer Kris Humphries? No problem, E! has your back.

The network and home to all things Kardashian announced that it will air "Kim's Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event" over two nights in October. The behind-the-scenes special is slated to make its debut on Sunday, October 9, with the second part airing a day later on Monday, October 10, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The wedding will take place on August 20 in California. Taking some cues from her sister Khloe, who also had an E! wedding special back in 2009 when she married Lakers star Lamar Odom, Kim will wear a dress designed by Vera Wang. No word on whether, like Khloe and Lamar, the newlyweds will get their own spin-off from the highly successful "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" franchise.

Fans of the reality starlet got a glimpse of the wedding invitation late last month when it hit the Internet. The black-and-white invites were designed by Lehr & Black, who also worked with Khloe and Lamar on their invitations, People.com reports.

Kim and Kris, the latest Kardashian beau to appear on "Keeping Up With," got engaged in May, and the news came as quite a surprise to her sisters.

"We were totally surprised. I mean, because I had been working so much, and Kris lives in New Jersey, I've only met him not even a handful of times," Khloe explained to MTV News earlier this summer. "We were at a family dinner and she walks in, and she's like, 'I'm engaged,' but we didn't even know if it was a joke."

Demi Lovato Defends Anti-Drug Sticker

Demi Lovato had gossip blogs buzzing on Wednesday when she was spotted with a sticker on her phone that reads, "Heroin killed the radio star." While many were wondering what it meant, the singer/actress took to Twitter to clarify it all.

"I've had the same sticker encouraging sobriety in a cool way for over a month now," she wrote. "No other reason than to inspire a younger generation to stay sober rather than falling into peer pressure and bad habits like so many have. #relax #soberissexy."

The sticker was designed by the clothing and accessories line Sober Is Sexy, and proceeds from sales of the line go to various substance-abuse programs. A new program is picked biannually by the company, which also sells T-shirts, tote bags, and various other clothing and accessory items with anti-drug messages.

Lovato recently sat down with Elle magazine for their September issue and opened up about the events that led to her seeking treatment last fall. "I was completely out of line all summer," she recalled of the time she had been on the road with the Jonas Brothers. "Just the worst attitude — totally ungrateful."

Before hitting the road, she had been dating Joe Jonas. The couple split, but Lovato doesn't place the sole blame for her attitude on the breakup. "I wouldn't credit my meltdown to a guy," she said. "There was so much other stuff in my life."

A widely publicized encounter with her backup dancer Alex Welch also was one of the big factors that led Lovato to realize she needed help. "I just felt like she betrayed me," she said of their physical altercation. "That's the bottom line."

Long before Lovato received treatment, the star had people concerned about her health. When she appeared at an event with scratches on her wrists, a publicist came up with an excuse for her behavior. "I don't think I would have been ready to talk about [my problems] then, but I could've come up with something better than gummy bracelets," Lovato said in the interview. "Needless to say, that publicist is no longer with us ... I mean, she's alive. ..."

Lovato reportedly received treatment for cutting, eating disorders and bipolar disorder.

Now, she's focused on her career, which includes a new album due in September and a new hit single, "Skyscraper." "I doubled over," she said of recording the emotional track. "Tears streaming down my face. It was a sight to see."
