Mel Gibson has alienated much of Hollywood and his fanbase in recent years. First came his infamous DUI arrest in 2006 and then, over the summer, the Oscar winner was accused of abusing ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva and their young daughter Lucia, and the public heard the shocking audiotapes in which he allegedly hurled epithets at Grigorieva. But there's someone who is sticking by his side: his "Lethal Weapon" co-star Danny Glover.

Glover chatted with MTV News on Friday at the Sundance Film Festival about the news of their franchise's remake, saying, "I'd like to think that the four we did were still magical and people will still reference the four 'Lethal Weapon' [films]." The actor also spoke about his on- and offscreen friend, who has since fallen from grace in the public eye.

"I love Mel. That's my friend," Glover said of Gibson, adding, "He's had tough times. We've all had tough times."

In fact, the actor, who was attending Sundance to screen his latest film, "Black Power Mixtape," said he has been in touch with Gibson, who has been keeping a very low profile in the wake of all the controversy. Glover said that they saw one another most recently at a memorial in Los Angeles, where they happily greeted each other. "We ran up and hugged each other, man," he recalled.

When asked whether the revelations about Gibson over the past year resemble the friend he knows, Glover opted to keep mum. "I can't comment on that," he said, adding, "I only know what I know."

The actor went on to say that the Gibson he knows is "a very generous man, a man that ... whatever he goes through ... is always searching for something and searching for meaning in his life.' "

Glover isn't the only friend and former co-star of Gibson's to come to his defense. In the October issue of More, Jodie Foster, who worked with the troubled star on the 1994 comedy Western "Maverick," told the magazine Gibson was the "easiest, nicest person I've ever worked with." She went on to say, "The second I met him, I said, 'I will love this man for the rest of my life."

Like Glover, Foster opted to stay by her friend's side in spite of the abuse accusations and those controversial violent, racial and anti-Semitic slurs. "When you love a friend, you don't abandon them when they are struggling," she said, adding, "but more importantly, he is and has been a true and loyal friend. I hope I can help him get through this dark moment."

Not since the adaptations of the "Harry Potter" and "Twilight" sagas has there been as much buzz surrounding the casting of a beloved book headed for the big screen as there is right now for "The Hunger Games."

While most of the talk has been around who will play the story's heroine, Katniss (Hailee Steinfeld, Chloe Moretz and Elle Fanning are just a few of the actresses rumored to be vying for the part), many fans are wondering who will be cast as Katniss' Hunger Games partner (and possible love interest) Peeta.

MTV News caught up with Liam Hemsworth at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday (January 22), and it turns out the actor hasn't just had his name thrown in the ring for consideration: He's already read the script.

"I read the script," said the 21-year-old star, who was in Park City to go snowboarding with his older brother, actor Chris Hemsworth. "It's a really, really cool story."

The actor, known to many as Miley Cyrus' ex-boyfriend, expressed interest in the film, adding, "I love action ... gritty kinda stuff like that."

For fans worried that the PG-13 adaptation will tone down the action in the book, Hemsworth said, "It's super-dark. It's all young kids in these Hunger Games, which are crazy, insane things."

Hemsworth, who described the project as "definitely something different," says he could "possibly" see himself taking on the role of Peeta. While he hasn't yet met or auditioned for the film's director, Gary Ross, he told MTV, "I mean, it's pretty early right now. ... But, yeah, I'm sure I'll meet [him] on it soon."

Skull Gang MC Hynief was arrested Thursday on drug charges following a raid on Dipset spitter Juelz Santana's recording studio.

Hynief, who was born Toby M. Raynor, was taken into custody on two counts of distribution of a controlled substance after a search of the "Santana" recording studio in Bergenfield, New Jersey turned up marijuana and weapons.

"Two fully loaded 9mm caliber handguns were found in the recording studio along with several boxes of ammunition. Additionally, seventeen (17) small clear zip-lock bags each containing a greenish brown vegetation, consistent with the appearance of Marijuana, and drug paraphernalia were seized," Bergen County Prosecutor's Office spokesperson Maureen Parenta said in a statement.

Authorities executed the raid after a ten-month-long investigation. Police allege that Hynief distributed marijuana to an undercover cop on two occasions last summer, in June and July.

Hynief was held on $50,000 bail, but Juelz tweeted on Saturday that the rapper had been freed. "A! @HYNIEFSKULLGANG bailed out #whoooaaaaa," he wrote. An officer at the Bergen County Jail confirmed to MTV News that Hynief had been released.

The prosecutor's office didn't directly reference Juelz Santana, but the MC apologized on Twitter for missing an appearance in Chicago due to legal drama.

"If it ant 1 thing it's another, smh. Sorry to all the people in chi-town that came out last night I couldn't make It!! Trouble wit the law," he tweeted.

The raid happened the same day that Santana was forced to skip an MTV News RapFix Live reunion interview with his Dipset brethren, citing a skin issue.

A representative for Juelz did not respond to MTV News' request for comment at press time.

"No Strings Attached" broke away from the competition at the Friday box office.

The romantic comedy about two pals who decide to test the bounds of their friendship by getting frisky in the bedroom, which stars Natalie Portman, Ashton Kutcher and Ludacris, kicked off the weekend with $7.3 million.

"Strings" swatted "The Green Hornet" down to second place. The modern take on the old-school vigilante hero, starring Seth Rogen, scored $5.1 million. Friday's haul nudges the flick's total estimated tally to just over $50 million.

"The Dilemma" took the third-place slot on Friday. Vince Vaughn and Kevin James' latest laugh-getting enterprise, which revolves around a guy who struggles with whether he should let his best friend know that his seemingly perfect wife has been stepping out on him, rang up $3 million. The figure kicks the flick's total estimated haul to $26.7 million.

The historical drama "The King's Speech" clenched the fourth-place spot. The Colin Firth vehicle added $2.14 million to its estimated $51 million haul.

"True Grit" slid to the fifth spot after clenching the box-office crown in recent weeks. Featuring performances from Hollywood heavyweights like Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon, the Western made $2.11 million, just behind "Speech." The flick's total estimated gross now stands at around $132 million.

Just before "Strings" hit theaters, Portman spoke to MTV News about the film's racy sex scenes, and dished that landing the perfect under-the-sheets moves needed some planning. "Some of the things were like, 'What are we going to try today?' And also, a lot of it gets choreographed because it's like, 'How are we going to get my hair thing out so that I don't fall on it?' or things like that where I'll be like, 'I can cover you there, and you can [cover me here],' " she said. "So it's very strategic."

Check out everything we've got on "No Strings Attached," "The Green Hornet" and "The Dilemma."

Danny Glover Reacts To News Of 'Lethal Weapon' Reboot

It's been nearly 13 years since the fourth and seemingly final "Lethal Weapon" movie was released in theaters. But it was recently reported by Deadline.com that Warner Bros., along with producer Joel Silver, has sought out writer Will Beall to make a reboot of the action/ comedy franchise with an entirely new cast.

While in the past there had been talks of a possible "Lethal Weapon 5," featuring the original cast and reportedly to be penned by Shane Black, conflicting schedules as well as Mel Gibson's shattered public image had shelved it for the time being.

MTV News caught up with one of the series' stars, Danny Glover, at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival on Friday to discuss the news of a remake. The 64-year-old actor, who said he hadn't heard anything about it yet, channeled his character, Roger Murtaugh, as he said with a laugh, "I'm too old for this!"

Glover, who was attending Sundance to screen his latest film, "Black Power Mixtape," went on to talk about Mel Gibson, his onscreen partner in crime (fighting) from the original blockbusters. "I thought it was, for me and Mel, a wonderful journey," he said of his troubled co-star, adding, "I love Mel. Mel's my friend."

As for a potential reboot, Glover said, "I'd like to think that the four we did were still magical and people will still reference the four 'Lethal Weapon' [films]," adding, "I like what we've done before in the past."

Glover also seemed skeptical about a reboot without director Richard Donner, who directed all four films, at the helm. "Dick Donner is the one who's behind all this. Dick Donner is the one. He's really the magic behind this [franchise]," Glover said. "There's no way this could have been done, the four 'Lethal Weapon' movies, without Richard Donner."

Glover continued to praise his former director, saying Donner allowed him and his co-stars "the space for us to ... create the kind of relationships, touch the human relationships that we did in that movie."

Keyshia Cole Wants To Record With Nickelback

'I love them as a group,' songbird says of dream collaboration.

If everything were up to Keyshia Cole, she would rock out on her next collaboration.

The R&B songbird recently said in an interview for music-video website Vevo's "Ask: Reply" series that her dream team-up would be with Canadian rock crew Nickelback.

"I think that I would say for my dream collaboration, it would have to be Nickelback," the Calling All Hearts crooner said. Cole also added that if she were to hit the studio with the rockers, she would try to craft a collabo that seamlessly combines their musical sensibilities."I love them as a group. I truly do, and I would love, love, love, absolutely love to do a song that is very heartfelt and alternative and R&B somehow in the same light."

For Cole, who has landed in the booth with stars like Diddy and called her Kanye West-helmed debut, "I Changed My Mind," one of her favorite musical hook-ups, Nickelback is just the latest ideal feature for the California songstress. Cole told MTV News last year that she would also love to join forces with one of Detroit's finest.

"Me and Eminem doing a collaboration?" Cole wondered aloud on the set of the visual for her Nicki Minaj collabo "I Ain't Thru." "I just think he made the hardest comeback for 2010, and I support him all the way, and he's just dope, he's just dope,"

Even if a Shady or Nickelback-assisted track doesn't pan out, Cole already as some "dope" match-ups in her arsenal. The A Different Me singer broke down how her Minaj collabo went down, and lavished props on the Young Money diva.

"It was dope [in the studio]. She's very, very professional. She sat in the corner and wrote her part and then actually she wrote two raps to the song," Cole confided. "She actually did one verse and was like, 'Keyshia, I think I can do so much better.' And I was like, 'Absolutely not — it's dope and leave it the way it is.' And then I saw her again and she was like, 'Please, just let me do my thing,' and I was like, 'absolutely,' 'cause I understand where she comes from."

What do you think a Keyshia Cole/Nickelback track would sound like? Let us know in the comments!
