TJ Lavin is "slowly progressing" after getting critically injured Thursday night during a BMX stunt, his pal Chas Aday told MTV News on Sunday (October 17).

Aday said that while there have been "no real drastic changes" in Lavin's condition, he was responsive when doctors performed some basic tests.

"They took him off sedation ... yesterday morning to where he followed some simple commands and then they put him back on sedation," Aday said. "He had an MRI yesterday that came back. They didn't see any further brain damage or anything but there's still some swelling there. They took him off the sedation this morning completely but he's still unconscious."

Aday said the "sedation's gonna take a while to wear off" but even though he is unconscious, Lavin is making use of his limbs.

"He's moving his extremities — he's bending his legs and stuff — but not really following commands right now," Aday explained. "He's just kinda moving around like he gets irritated that he's in there."

The MTV "Challenge" host and pro biker sustained brain bleeding, a broken wrist and an orbital fracture after stunt during what was supposed to be the athlete's final ride went awry. Lavin's friend and business partner also added that the BMX rider is fending off a bout of pneumonia.

"He's got a slight fever and has pneumonia that they started some antibiotics for right now," Aday said.

While recent improvements in Lavin's condition appear promising, Aday mentioned that long-term issues with brain function won't be immediately determined.

"I don't think we're gonna know any of that until he wakes up and they can evaluate him from there," he said. "It's gonna be a long recovery for him."

Share your well-wishes for Lavin and his family in the comments.

Ludacris Is The #10 Hottest MC In The Game!

Making his first-ever appearance on the list, Luda took the tenth spot with his Battle of the Sexes and a slew of chart-topping cameos.

The 2010 Hottest MCs in the Game rollout is now under way! As in 2008 and2009, the list, determined by the MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust, is based on an MC's achievements right now, rather than an entire career. The criteria is based on a combination of rhyme skill, flow and how those things are implemented musically. The Brain Trust also considered buzz, impact, commercial success — sales, airplay, business ventures, Web presence, endorsements and helping to spawn other artists' careers — and the intangible, impact: Can an artist not only contribute to the rap game but influence cultural shifts? Are they trendsetters? All of these factors contributed to deciding who is the Hottest MC in the Game. All this week, we'll be rolling out reactions from artists, DJs, the MCs themselves — and you! Upload your comments, reactions, arguments and/or your own list to Your.MTV.com or send tweets to @MTVNews @MTVRapFix or @RealSway with the hashtag #hottestmcs — the best responses could be on TV or our hip-hop blog, RapFix!

Flame Thrower: Ludacris

2010 Rank: #10

Collection: Battle of the Sexes

Previous Rankings: N/A

Ludacris has been in the game for more than a decade and, in that time, has amassed enough career highlights to fill more than a few Web pages. But 2010 actually marks the Atlanta rapper's first time making MTV News' Hottest MCs list.

Perhaps inspired in part by being routinely left off the list, in 2008, Luda crafted what was then his most conceptually high-minded LP, Theater of the Mind. He even defiantly rapped about being overlooked to Mixtape Daily: "I'm top five, dead or alive/ And MTV, y'all must be out yo' muthaf---in' mind." Still, it wasn't enough to get him on the 2009 list.

In March, Ludacris released his seventh album, Battle of the Sexes, and without seeming to try much at all, he made the case for why he should be a candidate for the 2010 Hottest MC in the Game.

Sexes tackles male/female dynamics and brings onboard some high-profile femcees, including Nicki Minaj and Lil' Kim. The certified-gold record debuted at #1 on the Billboard albums chart and spawned three bona fide hits — "How Low," "My Chick Bad" and "Sex Room" — that each broke the top 5 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart.

Where Luda really shined this year, though, was in his collaborations. He was featured on Justin Bieber's smash "Baby," which gave the teenybopper some street cred while also giving Luda a huge look at Top 40 radio. The video for "Baby" is the most viewed in the history of YouTube. If that wasn't enough, 'Cris jumped on the U.S. version of Taio Cruz's "Break Your Heart," and turned what was already a smash in the U.K. into one of the biggest songs of the summer in the States. But Luda kept it hip-hop, too, jumping on DJ Khaled's "All I Do Is Win," which had everybody's hands going up, to the tune of more than a million singles sold.

Surprisingly, all of that success couldn't get Ludacris into the top 10 without some contention. During the 2010 roundtable discussion, moderated by MTV News' Sway, members of the Brain Trust pointed out that G-Unit MC Lloyd Banks also had a banner year and was a contender for the 10th spot. Banks saw renewed buzz stemming in large part from the success of his single "Beamer, Benz or Bentley," an urban radio staple.

MTV News Senior Producer Rahman Dukes argued, "Banks has had one of the most successful years without putting an album out. He really set the pace where, at one point during this year, he was the hottest artist out of New York City, hands down."

"Nothing against Banks, but on a proportional scale, Luda's doing that to an even bigger scale," countered Steven Roberts, an associate producer at MTV News. "[Banks] may have had the #1 record out of New York — Luda had the #1 album in the country."

Yomi Desalu, the director of music programming at mtvU, said that having a successful album doesn't necessarily mean an MC deserves a nod. Desalu echoed Dukes' sentiment, citing Banks' heavy presence on the mixtape circuit as a key factor for his consideration.

"It's not just about the album because anyone can go out there and get special features or high-quality producers to produce an album," he said. "When you're talking about what the fans are feeling in the streets — five mixtapes, that's hungry — that's the hunger for more," Desalu said, slyly dropping the title of Banks' debut follow-up.

But Roberts was firmly in Luda's corner. "T.I., Gucci, Young Jeezy, they had all ran this Atlanta scene. It was hard for Luda to come back out just to put his name back out there."

Sean Lee, MTV News' supervising producer, concurred. "For him to have three big records off that album, that's an accomplishment as well," he said of 'Cris.

Also to be considered are the numerous business ventures Ludacris has launched beyond music, including Conjure, a cognac; Soul by Ludacris headphones; and a restaurant in ATL called Straits Atlanta. Oh yeah, there's Hollywood, too, where he continues to make strides.

"I think people see him not being on the music scene as much, but he's still active in a certain capacity," said MTV News senior writer Jayson Rodriguez. "I think that still speaks to the artist he is and the caliber of talent that he is too."

Stay locked in each day as we count down #10 to #6 on our MCs list. Then tune in to MTV2 for the entire one-hour "Hottest MCs in the Game" special on Sunday, October 24, at 1:30 p.m. ET. We'll reveal who will be crowned 2010's Hottest MC.

Teen superstar Justin Bieber is reportedly involved in an investigation in his native Canada for an alleged assault at a Richmond, British Columbia laser tag center.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed Sunday (October 17) that an investigation was underway regarding an incident at a "Richmond entertainment facility" just before 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The father of a 12-year-old boy told authorities that his son was assaulted by another young male at the facility. The tween didn't need medical attention and walked away with "minimal injuries."

Since the suspect is under 18, police have not released the name of the accused party. However, many reports have stated that 16-year-old Bieber is being pegged as the attacker and the RCMP has stated, "We are aware of speculations concerning the identity of one of the parties allegedly involved."

A rep for Bieber did not respond to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Bieber, an avid tweeter, has not yet addressed reports either.

Unnamed sources have told TMZ that the incident went down at Planet Lazer, a laser tag chain that has a location in Richmond. The website, however, paints a different picture of the incident, reporting that Bieber was targeted by an overzealous laser tag participant who lobbed an anti-gay slur at the teen idol. When the 12-year-old stuck his hand out toward Bieber, the pop sensation apparently batted it away and then left the center.

The incident comes during a busy time for the "Baby" crooner. The singer announced Friday that his buzzed-about 3-D flick "Never Say Never" will be released in February. His illustrated memoir, "Justin Bieber: First Step 2 Forever: My Story," just hit shelves and he is helming a nail polish line. His chart-topping music continues to make an impact and the singer is up for four American Music Award trophies.

Bret Michaels Says 'Life As I Know It' Is 'Authentic'

'It's a great balance between my passion and love for my family and my passion and love for being on the road,' he says of new VH1 show.

Bret Michaels spent three seasons on "Rock of Love" — and had an offer for a fourth — but decided against it. Maybe it had something to do with his health scares or his winning turn on "Celebrity Apprentice," but whatever the case, Michaels was ready to do something new.

That's why, on his VH1 series "Life As I Know It," which premieres Monday night (October 18) at 10 p.m., viewers will get to see a brand-new side of the bandana-clad bad boy: the soft-spoken family man.

"The inspiration for the new show was simple. Even when I was doing 'Rock of Love' ... I wanted to do 'Celebrity Apprentice,' to raise awareness for the American Diabetes Association and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation," Michaels said. "And I'm so lucky I got to go over there and do it. And from that, the idea for this show was sort of spawned. ... It's a great balance between my passion and love for my family and my passion and love for being on the road. And they're two different ends of the spectrum, and then you watch it collide, and the whole show is about finding that balance."

And so, on "Life As I Know It," there are no tequila-fueled make-out sessions. Instead, the show documents Michaels' on-again, off-again relationship with Kristi, the mother of his two daughters, and his attempts to get back on the road after his various health issues. It's not reality TV; it's just plain real. And that's exactly how Michaels wants it.

"Initially, [VH1] wanted me to do a show called 'Rock of Love Boat,' but I came to them with this idea, and they were interested," he said. "I said, 'Listen, sometimes it's going to be exciting, and sometimes it's going to be me, scooping up dog poop ... that's life.' And I think the authenticity of it is what people are really going to love. They're going to see me as both a parent and a dad and also being on the road, rocking it."

Spike TV's 2010 Scream Awards took over the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles Saturday night to applaud some of the most memorable sci-fi hits from past to present. To properly pay tribute, the event trotted out some major names for the festivities.

"X-Men" alum Halle Berry showed up in a snug, gilded number to present the first honor of the evening, Most Mind-Bending Film, to director Christopher Nolan for the elaborate dreamscapes of "Inception."

Entering the stage in a nude sheath, former "Transformers" star Megan Fox handed the hardware for Best Villain to her "Passion Play" co-star and tattoo inspiration Mickey Rourke, for his turn as Ivan Vanko in "Iron Man 2."

"Paranormal Activity 2" stars Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat unveiled the trailer to the follow-up to their breakout, creep-inducing hit and "Thor" actor Chris Hemsworth gave the Best Comic Book Writer award to DC Comics' Geoff Johns.

"The Office" actor Rainn Wilson, gave attendees a taste of his upcoming movie "Super" before doling out the "Holy Sh--! Scene of the Year" to head-twisting sex moment in HBO's vampire soap "True Blood."

Honoring one of the most iconic sci-fi romps in movie history, 1985's "Back to the Future," the show recreated the parking lot time-warp scene, and updated the date on the car to October 19, 2010. A voice-over announcer boomed, "The man, the myth, the legend," as a DeLorean drove onto stage. However, audience members were surprised when instead of the film's plucky protagonist Michael J. Fox stepping out of the vehicle, funnyman David Spade popped out instead. After a montage of choice moments from the "Future" trilogy screened, Fox and co-star Christopher Lloyd took the stage to a standing ovation.

The cast of AMC's new post-apocalyptic series "The Walking Dead" introduced an exclusive clip from the show and handed over the trophy for Best Comic Book or Graphic Novel, which fittingly went to The Walking Dead tome the show is based on.

"Batman" villain Aaron Eckhart presented Best Fantasy Actress to "Twilight" superstar Kristen Stewart, who accepted the honor in a two-toned frock.

Nonagenarian author Ray Bradbury was celebrated as the 2010 Comic Con Icon for popular works such as Fahrenheit 451 and The Illustrated Man.

Screen veteran Anthony Hopkins gave viewers a look at his upcoming exorcism movie "The Rite," which follows an American priest who travels to Italy to study the ins and outs of vanquishing demons.

Later, Emma Roberts, David Arquette, Neve Campbell and filmmaker Wes Craven took the stage to present a world-premiere look at the latest flick in the "Scream" series, and in a night crammed with exclusive looks at upcoming films, the audience also got the chance to check out a new trailer for the forthcoming "Harry Potter" flick.

The show also brought out many faces from the perpetually befuddling ABC hit "Lost," including Jorge Garcia, Harold Perrineau and Ian Somerhalder, for a tribute to the recently cancelled show, and to get some answers about what actually went on during the past six seasons. However, no one in the crew gave details and politely declined to answer questions.

Marilyn Manson became a one-man horrorfest when he hit the stage with a woman chained to pole that was set aflame and presented Best TV Show to "True Blood."

Funnywoman Sarah Silverman presented the award for Best Horror Movie to "Zombieland," a moment that segued into another highlight of the evening as Bill Murray made a surprise appearance to accept the award. The actor delighted the crowd by donning his "Ghostbuster" garb as the notes of the film's synth-heavy theme blasted into the theater. He then shouted-out many of his late colleagues such as Rodney Dangerfield and John Belushi.

Sigourney Weaver's legacy as a horror and sci-fi heroine was also celebrated and the screen legend rolled onstage in an egg-like structure similar to the ones found in her latest fantasy hit, "Avatar," which later won Top 3D Movie.

M.I.A. performed sporting a suitably eye-catching look for the eccentric star and rocked the stage in yellow and pink sequined outfit.

Other awards of night went to Alexander Skarsgard for Best Horror Actor in "True Blood" and Most Memorable Mutilation for "The Human Centipede." Skarsgaard's co-star Anna Paquin took home Best Horror Actress. "Zombieland" won for Best Horror Movie. "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" won Best Fantasy Movie and Ryan Reynolds accepted the Top Anticipated Movie award for "Green Lantern."

After a decade of pulling off outrageous pranks, Johnny Knoxville and crew prove that audiences still love a crazy stunt. The guys, including Steve-O, Bam Margera and Jason "Wee-Man" Acuña, have been risking injury and freaking out fans since the "Jackass" TV show hit MTV in 2000. The latest installment of the series, the visually souped-up "Jackass 3D," scored a major opening weekend, netting $50 million its first two days on screens and blowing away the competition.

In second place, with less than half of the "Jackass" haul, is the spy flick "Red." Starring Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren and Bruce Willis as ex-CIA operatives targeted by their former employer, the movie rang up $22.5 million its debut weekend.

After ruling the box office for two consecutive weeks, "The Social Network" slid to third place. The movie, which features Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake as upstart entrepreneurs scrapping over the future of social-media behemoth Facebook, netted $11 million over the weekend. The film's third-week gross bumps its total estimated tally to just over $63 million.

Dropping one spot from last week is "Secretariat," Disney's feel-good tale of the 1973 Triple Crown victor. The film, which boasts performances from Diane Lane and John Malkovich, came in fourth place with $9.5 million. The movie has raked in an estimated $27.5 million since it landed in theaters.

The date-night pick "Life as We Know It" rounds out the top five. Although the film fell from second to fifth place this week, audiences still plunked down $9.2 million to catch Josh Duhamel and Katherine Heigl as frenemies who team up to raise their late friends' child. The movie's total estimated haul stands at around $28.9 million.

"The Avengers" star Chris Hemsworth will be wielding a massive hammer in the highly-anticipated, hero-packed flick but, other than that, the Australian actor is still in the dark about the nuances of his role.

When the "Thor" actor stopped by the Scream Awards red carpet on Saturday, he told MTV News that he hasn't laid eyes on a script for the 2012 release.

"I'm extremely excited to see it. I talked with [director] Joss [Whedon] right when he first came on board about his ideas and what he planned on doing about it," Hemsworth said. "But I have yet to see a script."

He may not know the details of the script, but Hemsworth is familiar with Whedon, who he has worked with in the past. He assured us that the guy behind fantasy hits such as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" will carve out some great material for the rising actor.

"[Whedon] produced 'Cabin in the Woods,' which Drew Goddard directed, and he was very collaborative in the whole process and was fantastic," Hemsworth gushed. "I got to know him on a personal level too and have all the confidence in the world in him."

The actor is pulling major Marvel duty leading the film "Thor" and bringing the superhero's Norse muscle the all-star "Avengers" adventure alongside Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson. Hemsworth has to pack on the brawn for both movies and said that he's ramping up his fitness regimen to build superhuman musculature.

"It's been a bit like that for the last year or so. I'm starting to up the calories and head back in the gym and start slowly putting it back on," he said, adding that the pumped-up physique "helps you feel a bit like the character."

Hemsworth recently got the chance to show off his bulk when he appeared as his onscreen alter ego on the cover of the British movie magazine Empire, an experience he relished as a longtime fan of the publication.

"That magazine is something that back in Australia I grew up reading and saving up my pocket money to buy," he said. "So to be on the front of it is mind-blowing."

T.I. is heading back to jail for nearly a year but not without some words of support from his fellow Atlanta stars.

The superstar MC was sentenced Friday to 11 months in prison for probation violation after he was caught with drugs during a traffic stop in Los Angeles last month. Tip just wrapped up a bid for a felony weapons charge in March and is expected to turn himself in within the next two weeks. As the ATL spitter heads back to prison, some famous faces are sending T.I. some hometown love.

"He just gotta hold his head up," Atlanta producer and DJ Lil Jon told MTV News on the Tao New York 10th Anniversary red carpet Saturday. "Sometimes you get the wrong curveballs in life but you keep your head up, keep pushing, everything will be good."

Southern songbird Ciara also sent the MC some messages of support.

"To the big homie T.I., I just want to ... send you and your family all my love and support and prayer and, of course, keep your head up strong," she said. "You survived this long, and before you know it, the journey will be over and I'm hoping that when you come out that things can only continue to get better for you and for your family."

The R&B princess added that she feels for T.I., who has to deal with the sometimes harsh glare of the spotlight and fair-weather support from the music game when handling mistakes.

"I support him. None of us have perfect days and it's crazy because in our industry when we don't have perfect days a lot of times people turn their backs on you. We're all human and unfortunately ... when you are a celebrity what you do is exposed. But there are a lot of people just like you that go through troubles every day," the "Ride" singer said. "I support anybody that's going through a tough time and I'm sure ... he wants to do better and I support a person who wants to do that too."

"The Real Housewives of Atlanta" diva NeNe Leakes said she hopes Tip will turn his life around after his latest slip-up.

"I feel sorry for him because he's so great and he's so powerful. I feel really bad that it's happening to him," she said. "So maybe this will be the last lesson learned. Maybe he'll really get it together."

Ultimately, it sounds as though many of the city's celebs will continue to hold the MC down.

"He represents Atlanta," NeNe smiled. "We love him."

Nikki Reed Talks Top-Secret 'Breaking Dawn' Script

Actress says even getting the script to her acting coach 'was a huge process.'
By Mawuse Ziegbe

"Breaking Dawn" vampire Nikki Reed is one of the few people who have checked out the script for the upcoming "Twilight Saga" installment. And as the starlet tells it, the big wigs behind the flick are trying hard to keep it that way.

When MTV News chatted with Reed on the Scream Awards red carpet Saturday, she said the script is guarded so carefully that even well-known industry professionals have to jump through hoops to get a peek.

"They're definitely watermarked," Reed admitted of the script's security. "In fact, I work with an acting coach ... and I wanted her to obviously have a copy so that we could work together and it was a huge process. She's like a really well-respected coach."

It appears that studio execs are keeping such a close eye on the script for good reason, as Reed said filmmakers have knocked a great screenplay.

"I think that they've really mastered the art of translating these books and transferring every single element almost verbatim, yet it's obviously condensed because the book is endless," Reed said. "I didn't know how they were gonna conquer that challenge but they seem to have done it."

The actress said she is ready to tackle the script head-on as production gets underway for the 2011 release, and is amped to work with the flick's acclaimed director.

"Lots of fittings, no rehearsals yet [but] we head out there pretty soon. I'm really excited, I think Bill Condon is a genius," she said. "I've only spoken to him on the phone but his love and devotion has sort of bled into [other parts of the production] because I've had wig fittings and wardrobe fittings here and you feel his presence even though I haven't spent any time with him one on one."

As Reed continues to ride out her role as Rosalie in the "Twilight" series, the actress reflected on the experience so far and said she's satisfied with her contribution to the onscreen phenomenon.

"If it all ends tomorrow for me I'm happy because I feel like I've been a part of things that I'm really proud of [and] that I'm really grateful for," she said.
