Linkin Park's Chester Bennington Teases 'Saw 3D' Role

Those familiar with the "Saw" film franchise are fully aware that a large part of the popular series' appeal — in addition to its always-disturbing, gory action or trap sequences — is the veil of mystery that surrounds each film's individual plot. The films are not screened for critics, and it's difficult to get definitive details from any of the actors or filmmakers before the film opens.

Such is the case with the upcoming "Saw 3-D." So far, all we have to go on is , a cool-but-creepy and a painful-looking photo of Linkin Park's Chester Bennington reaching out from the broken windshield of a car.

When MTV News caught up with singer/actor Bennington recently, we tried to get him to divulge a few details about his mysterious role in the heavily hyped bloodfest.

"I can tell you that my name is Evan," Bennington offered. "Other than that, I can tell you nothing else about the character."

Gee, thanks, Chester. What about the scene you're involved in then?

"The thing that is interesting about this particular scene is that it's a trap set for multiple people," he explained. "Jigsaw, for those who know the films, Jigsaw typically sets up traps for one, maybe two people. There are never more people involved than that."

Until now, it seems.

"This particular trap is set up for multiple people, and it's a very complicated trap that's been set. There are different kinds of emotional things going on for my character, but it's very much in the tradition of a good 'Saw' trap," Bennington promised. "And it's in 3-D, so there's going to be blood spattering at your face, which is something that's going to be pretty bad-ass."

'Social Network' Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know!

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 03:52 AM PDT

We friended this production a long time ago, and this is what we've learned.
By Eric Ditzian

Jesse Eisenberg in "The Social Network"

"The Social Network" is a whodunit for the Internet age. Was the billion-dollar behemoth known as Facebook solely the idea of Mark Zuckerberg, a flip-flop-wearing hacker at Harvard? Or did he lie, cheat and steal his way toward Web glory, leaving wronged classmates in his egocentric wake?

That's the central question David Fincher explores in his new film, penned by Aaron Sorkin and starring Jesse Eisenberg as Zuckerberg. The film delivers no easy answers, just a riveting, two-hour ride showcasing the creative energy and energetic backstabbing of young entrepreneurs in Cambridge and Silicon Valley.

MTV News friended the production early on, following every casting development and trailer release since the project was announced. Before you hit the theater this weekend, point and click your way toward total information awareness with MTV News' "Social Network" cheat sheet.

Friending Hollywood
Word leaked in June of last year that Fincher was circling the rather-straightforward project, a curious move for a director known for such a distinct visual style. What would a guy who brought Tyler Durden of "Fight Club" and John Doe of "Seven" to the screen do with a nerd from the Ivy League?

By the next month, there was still no official announcement about Fincher's involvement, and when we asked producer Kevin Spacey about his helming duties, Spacey responded, "I think we are close to announcing a director." September came, Fincher had signed on, and the search was on for the actor to play Zuckerberg. Names that cropped up on the Web included Eisenberg, Michael Cera and Paul Rust, but the role eventually went to Eisenberg (who'd previously issued MTV News a non-denial denial of his involvement. Justin Timberlake came aboard at the same time, followed by Andrew Garfield, Rooney Mara and Max Minghella.

"I just made a tape, probably 20 pages of dialogue, and sent in the tape because I live in New York City and they were casting in California," Eisenberg told us in January about the casting process. "Then they called me for a meeting. It was fairly painless."

Removing Privacy Settings
By that point, filming was already under way. The first official look at the film didn't arrive until June, delivering the memorable tagline, "You don't get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies." The first teaser trailer dropped days later and contained not a single frame from the actual movie, just voice-overs and all-caps words like "punk" and "genius." As odd as it sounds, the trailer was as perfect as a teaser trailer can be. A second teaser popped up the next month: still with no film footage but with similarly intense voice-overs and imagery from Facebook pages themselves.

Not until the middle of July did we get our first glimpse of real "Social Network" footage. Set to a choral take on Radiohead's "Creep," the trailer gave us snappy dialogue, looks at Harvard's boozy social life and the backstabbing that began even before Facebook went online.

Status Updates
As the film's October release date approached, the cast began to speak more openly about the production. "Why actors love working with [Fincher] and why I loved working with him is because you try a scene in 200 different ways; you know he is able to edit together several different performances for each role," Eisenberg told us. "We would be often doing half the scene 60 times one way, then 60 times a little more engaged."

Timberlake spoke with us about how the film is potentially divisive. His personal experience was that some of his friends sided with Zuckerberg's version of events, while others agreed with his adversaries. "But one of my friends specifically said ... 'I don't 100 percent agree with any of the characters, but I don't disagree with any of them,' " Timberlake said. "Life is life. Things happen sloppily."

Life can also be cruel, which is why, even after making a movie so intimately tied to Internet culture, Eisenberg avoids reading about himself online at all costs. "I know that I'm written about online — we're all written about online," he told us. "It's incredibly painful to read it, so I stay off of it. People can write things that are terribly cruel because of the anonymity of the Internet."

Dr. Dre Says Eminem/Jay-Z Shows 'Inspired' Him To Work On Detox

When Dr. Dre surprised the crowd at Eminem and Jay-Z's historic first Home and Home Tour stop in Detroit, fans greeted the elusive rap king with epic chants of "Detox!" after he spit memorable bars from his last LP, The Chronic 2001. During a recent sit-down, Dre said the warm response motivated the beatmaster to hit the lab and get his much-anticipated and long-delayed follow-up into the hands of those screaming fans.

"Being on the stage with Eminem and Jay-Z was one of the most incredible feelings I've felt in a long time. It inspired me, it made me want to hurry up and get back in the studio and put more effort and more work into my own project," Dre told MTV2's "Sucker Free" on Wednesday during an event for his latest successful venture, Beats by Dre.

The much-lauded producer said rocking the stage with his protégé-turned-pop phenomenon, Eminem, and his "Under Pressure" collaborator, Jay-Z, validated his current efforts and demonstrated that more than 10 years into the wait for Detox, hip-hop heads are still hungry for more Dre-helmed bangers.

"The response from the people out there was just incredible," Dre said. "It let me know that I still got love out there and I'm not wasting my time in the studio with what I'm doing, with the music or with all the Beats product that we're putting out."

After stacking hip-hop hits for decades, nurturing the careers of superstar MCs such as Snoop Dogg, Em and 50 Cent, releasing two almost undeniably classic solo efforts, 2001 and 1992's The Chronic, and shaping the way the latest generation of rap lovers hears music with his Beats by Dre headphones, the Doc has crafted a game-changing legacy. Even boasting that singular résumé, the deafening shouts from die-hard Dre acolytes still excite the rap icon.

"I can't explain it," he said. "It's an incredible feeling. It's not something that can be bought. You have to earn it, and it just made me feel just amazing."

Bullies beware!

Eminem's new video for "No Love," a collaboration with Lil Wayne, premiered Thursday (September 30), and it sends a powerful message, in line with much of his latest album, Recovery.

The video debuted at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV, mtvU, MTV Hits, MTV Jams and MTV Tr3s. The track, which is from Em's double-platinum LP, is set to be released to radio October 5.

The single samples Haddaway's "What Is Love," and the video follows a schoolkid who gets pushed around the yard by bullies. He is shown with black eyes, which stemmed from being beat down in the school bathroom by the local toughs, and he eventually gets fed up. By the end of the clip, the kid toughens up.

Throughout the video, scenes are shown of the currently incarcerated Lil Wayne rapping in a dark room — at times with Eminem by his side — and smoke circles the rappers while they drop empowering verses about not being knocked down.

At other times, Eminem is holding a legal pad, reading from it and rapping in a studio while being cheered on by a singer who comes in on the verse and producer Denaun Porter, his hype man and fellow D12 group member.

By the video's conclusion, the bullied kid ends up confronting his attackers in the school cafeteria and takes on the three bullies — then he walks off into the proverbial sun, proud of sticking up for himself.

The official start date for production on "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" must be rapidly approaching as a bunch of new actors were added to the cast Thursday (September 30). Feast your eyes on the members of the Denali coven — the other "vegetarian" group of vampires who are considered friends/allies of the beloved Cullens.

According to a news release from Summit Entertainment, Christian Camargo ("The Hurt Locker, "Dexter") will play Spanish vampire and former member of the Volturi, Eleazar; Mia Maestro ("Alias," "Poseidon") has been cast as Eleazar's multilingual mate, Carmen; Kasey LaBow ("Moonlight") is Kate, sister to Tanya and blessed with the ability of producing powerful electric currents under her skin that she uses to shock enemies; and MyAnna Buring ("Doomsday") will play Tanya, the head of the Denali coven who once had a crush on Edward.

The four "Dawn" newbies join recently announced fellow Denali coven member Irina, to be played by "Lost" actress Maggie Grace. Irina ends up bringing a bit of havoc upon the Cullen family when she vengefully reveals a secret to the Volturi.

One other new "Dawn" addition is Rami Malek ("The Pacific") who joined the cast last month in the role of Egyptian vampire Benjamin, a young vamp blessed with the special ability of controlling the elements (à la Storm from X-Men), though he has yet to fully master his powers. He comes to help Bella and the Cullens battle the Volturi.

"I think it's going to be great," Rami told "ET" of his joining the cast last month. "It's going to be super exciting, and I'm thrilled."

Summit announced in June that "Breaking Dawn" would be divided into two parts; the first of the two films is scheduled to hit theaters November 18, 2011, and the second on November 16, 2012.

Tyler Clementi Suicide Spurs Ellen DeGeneres, Ciara To Speak Out

'Four lives lost is a crisis,' DeGeneres blogs, referencing recent teen suicides.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

The tragic wave of suicides among young people who have been targeted because of their sexuality has prompted several celebs to speak out against bullying.

In recent weeks, teens such as Rutgers University student Tyler Clementi and 13-year-old Seth Walsh have taken their lives after enduring taunts and humiliating incidents regarding their sexual orientation. Blogger Perez Hilton and several gay activists have spoken out against teen bullying, and columnist Dan Savage has started the YouTube channel "It Gets Better" to offer support, urging LGBT youth not to resort to suicide for relief from vicious teasing.

A diverse range of celebs also have blasted bullying and implored young people who have suffered abuse at the hands of their peers to maintain hope.

Media personality and former MTV VJ La La Vazquez teamed up with R&B star Ciara for a YouTube video offering support to young people affected by bullying.

"If you're gay, bisexual, transgender, I know it can be tough in high school dealing with people who might not understand who you are," Vazquez says in the clip. "We just want to let you know that it does get better. We were in high school once, and we know how mean people can be who just don't understand certain things."

"You gotta know that your life is in your hands; you determine your destiny," Ciara adds. "You're in total control. You determine where things can go — where they can start, where they can stop. It starts with you, and it really does get better."

Jay Manuel from "America's Next Top Model" also made a video, explaining to teens that regardless of their current situation, the future is bright.

"I'm 38, and I can tell you, it does get better," he says. "It's not easy in high school; I don't think anybody has it easy.

"People are gonna call you names, they're gonna make you feel bad about yourself, but at the end of the day, we go off and do our own things, and you really do control your destiny. When someone calls you a name and they call you gay and they call you queer or whatever they call you, remember that at the end of the day, you can go off and be a success all on your own."

Hilton had been tweeting several high-profile names in recent days to get involved in the "It Gets Better" initiative, and Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden responded with a link to the band's anti-suicide video "Hold On." Madden also pledged to make a personal video message.

"One Tree Hill" actress Sophia Bush also took to Twitter to express her concern about the ongoing bullying issues among young people.

"Anyone out there who thinks being a bully makes you cool? Wake up. It makes you a LOSER," tweeted Bush, who created the Twitter account @MissUSethWalsh in honor of the late teen. "Cool means doing good things for people. ALL people."

Openly gay talk show host Ellen DeGeneres maintained that bullying is an issue that affects more than just the young people lobbing insults and getting hurt in the melee, and urged everyone who is able to make a difference to get involved.

"One life lost in this senseless way is tragic. Four lives lost is a crisis," DeGeneres blogged Thursday (September 30), referencing the suicides of Clementi and Walsh as well as Texas teen Asher Brown and 15-year-old Billy Lucas from Indiana.

"And these are just the stories we hear about. How many other teens have we lost? How many others are suffering in silence? Being a teenager and figuring out who you are is hard enough without someone attacking you.

"My heart is breaking for their families, their friends and for a society that continues to let this happen. These kids needed us. We have an obligation to change this," she continues. "There are messages everywhere that validate this kind of bullying and taunting and we have to make it stop. We can't let intolerance and ignorance take another kid's life."

DeGeneres closes her note with a sentiment echoed by many other celebs: "Things will get easier, people's minds will change, and you should be alive to see it."

MTV's ongoing "A Thin Line" project provides stories and resources for anyone who believes they are being cyberbullied or who is looking for ways to stop harassment by digital means.

Justin Bieber fans have plenty to grin about now that the teen superstar's latest video is here. Bieber's "U Smile" clip premiered on Thursday (September 30) and features the Canadian sensation indulging in something he probably doesn't get a lot of these days: privacy.

The clip begins in black-and-white (and later incorporates scenes of color) as the "Somebody to Love" singer is approached by a crew of cheery tween fans who ask to snap a pic with the Biebs. The singer, of course, obliges and invites one of the lucky ladies out for a rendezvous later that evening. The two sneak into an empty theater and have lots of moments of PG intimacy, holding hands, horsing around on the theater's seats, sliding down banisters and making each other giggle. They wrap up the date with a playful back-alley water fight and collapse into each other's arms.

Bieber has said the video is about letting fans experience the ultimate fantasy for any hard-core Belieber: being Justin's girlfriend.

"I took the opportunity 2 make a video 4 the fans, about a fan, and how we could fall IN LOVE," he tweeted about the clip. "Love Grows. #LoveGrows."

Hit visuals like "Baby" and "One Time" show off the teen idol's footwork and peppy teenage swagger, but "U Smile" suggests a more mature Bieber, who appears to relish the quiet moments with his gal pal away from the nonstop fan hysteria. The clip also displays his skills as an instrumentalist, as he belts out the lyrics from behind a grand piano throughout much of the vid.

"It really is a throwback to the great records I listened to growing up," Bieber tweeted about the track earlier this year. "I wrote it for all my fans who got me here."

Like many "American Idol" followers, Jordin Sparks is looking forward to seeing how new judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler will make their mark on the hit talent show. MTV's "The Seven" recently caught up with the season-six winner, who recalled how Lopez dished out advice back when Sparks was competing and said she was amped for the singer/actress to take a seat at the judges' table.

"I'm excited about J.Lo, 'cause she was a mentor on my season and she was really sweet and I thought she gave us great advice," Sparks gushed. "It's gonna be cool to see how she does."

Sparks also said she was looking forward to seeing Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler — and his rock-and-roll sensibility — on the show. "I've always been a fan of Steven Tyler, so I'm excited to watch him," she said.

Glamorous pop hitmaker Lopez and rowdy rock god Tyler will definitely bring new energy to a panel that has been typically populated by industry movers and shakers like producer Randy Jackson and songwriter Kara DioGuardi. Sparks really wants to know who will step up and dole out the blunt criticism that made ex-judge Simon Cowell infamous.

"It's gonna be crazy to see which one takes over the Simon 'role,' I guess," Sparks said. "He's pretty much irreplaceable. but I think everybody kind of has that brutal honesty."

Lopez has said that she won't approach her judging duties with the same caustic flair as Cowell.

"I don't want to let anybody really great [not make it through] because they're nervous, and not get to see what they could have did," Lopez said on Wednesday. "They're going to come in here and be a little bit nervous in the beginning, and then you realize, 'Wow, that person is really talented.' So we work them a little bit more than maybe you've seen in the past. We've given them more of a chance."

'Let Me In' Director Matt Reeves Talks Deleted Scenes

By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

We can't imagine stepping into the very complex shoes of a film director, but if we did, one of the toughest aspects of the job would be those last few days in the editing room, when certain scenes of your film have to be cut for the sake of time, tone, etc.

When MTV News caught up with "Let Me In" director Matt Reeves recently, we asked him what scenes from his coming-of-age vampiric thriller ended up on the cutting-room floor that he'd like audiences to see someday.

"There is a scene that at some point I want to show, which is, we did a version of Abby's [played by Chloe Moretz] sort of original attack, when she was attacked," he explained. "It's what I call the 'be me' scene; I guess that's probably what it is. From the novel ['Let Me In' is an adaptation of the acclaimed Swedish novel and 2009 film version 'Let the Right One In'], there's a scene where she asks [Owen, played by Kodi Smit-McPhee] to 'be me a little,' and he actually feels what she felt and experiences emotionally what she went through at the moment she was attacked."

Reeves said he's really proud of that scene — especially the child actors' performances — so he hopes to show it to audiences someday. "I know we're going to show it, but I'd say that's one of the very few things that didn't make it in," he said. "There are lots of little bits of things we kind of whittled away, but in general, the movie is what it was planned to be."

"Let Me In" opens Friday.

Eminem, Lil Wayne Turn Mutual Respect Into 'No Love'

Video for single from Em's Recovery premieres Thursday night on MTV.
By Paul Cantor

Eminem fans have plenty of love for their beleaguered hero. But that won't stop him from premiering the highly anticipated video for his Lil Wayne-assisted single, "No Love," at 7:56 p.m. ET on Thursday night (September 30), on MTV, mtvU, MTV Hits, MTV Jams and MTV Tr3s. The song, from his double platinum-selling LP, Recovery, is set to be released October 5.

On the 30-second teaser for the video, Eminem sings the chorus to the song while in a recording studio. Just Blaze, who produced the track using vocal samples of Haddaway's 1993 dance hit "What Is Love," looks on. The accompanying narrative finds a young student being picked on by bullies in what appears to be a school cafeteria.

Lil Wayne, who is still serving out his sentence at Rikers, doesn't appear in the teaser. But the two have co-starred in music videos before, most notably "Forever," with Kanye West and Drake, and "Drop the World," the third single from Lil Wayne's Rebirth LP.

The two lauded lyricists have somewhat of an awkward relationship. Back in 2008, during an interview with BBC radio personality DJ Semtex, Wayne alluded to Eminem being scared to collaborate with him on Tha Carter III. "I've never done a song with Eminem," Wayne said. "I sent him a song, and he ain't do it. I didn't like that, but it's all good. People be busy and stuff, or a.k.a. just scared to get on a song with me."

This past June, as Em prepped Recovery for release, he admitted to Spin's Jonah Weiner that during his time away from rap, he considered dissing Weezy. "I thought, 'Man, I can do that sh--, he ain't that dope,' " Em said. "I'm hearing this dude say some clever, witty sh-- and I'm not doing it, so I feel f---ed up. [But] it would have been career suicide. They would have f---in' murdered me."

The proposed Wayne dis track never saw the light of day, and the rivalry gave way to mutual admiration. "I've always respected what Wayne does," Eminem said in an interview with Paris' Skyrock FM, also in June. "Wayne to me is definitely one of the greatest in the game right now."

In August, Wayne shared a similar sentiment. "Em is him, and he's back in a major way," he told Funkmaster Flex, on a call from prison. "He's a great dude. He's been keeping up with me since I've been in here, and I appreciate his support."

Tyler Clementi Suicide Puts Bullying In Spotlight

Rutgers student's death reveals the ugly consequences of using wired means to taunt.
By Gil Kaufman

On Wednesday, police found the body of 18-year-old Rutgers University freshman Tyler Clementi one week after he killed himself following his roommate posting a video online of Clementi having a sexual encounter with another man.

Authorities believe that Clementi leapt from the George Washington Bridge in New York after his roommate secretly taped him and then posted the footage on the Internet.

Clementi's roommate Dharan Ravi and Ravi's childhood friend Molly Wei are each facing two counts of invasion of privacy and could spend up to five years in prison if they are convicted of distributing sexual images without consent. Ravi allegedly posted a live feed of Clementi on Skype, according to CBS News, and boasted about it on Twitter.

"Roommate asked for the room till midnight," Ravi, 18, tweeted on September 19. "I went into Molly's room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay." Ravi is also alleged to have tried to broadcast a second encounter a few days later.

Investigators do not know how many people saw the feed or if Clementi had other issues that may have contributed to his despondency, but he clearly was upset by something. Before his death, he wrote on his Facebook page, "Jumping off the gw bridge sorry."

At press time, nearly 35,000 people had subscribed to a Facebook page in Clementi's honor, leaving thousands of comments about his death and the circumstances surrounding it. "I only hope your tragic passing is a wake up call across the globe so that nobody else's life is curtailed through the hatred and ignorance of others," one user wrote on the page's wall.

Clementi's death is the latest incident to reveal the dangers of cyberbullying and the consequences of using wired means to taunt. ABC News reported that Clementi complained to his resident advisor and other university officials about Ravi allegedly livestreaming video of Clementi having a sexual encounter with a male classmate earlier this month. A university spokesperson said the information was turned over to local authorities.

His death comes as a rash of bullying-related suicides has made the news. Minnesota Public Radio reports that seven teenagers in the Anoka-Hennepin School District, one of Minnesota's largest school districts, have taken their lives over the past year. Administrators are concerned that bullying, cyber or otherwise, may have played a part in the incidents, at least two of which involved gay students who'd allegedly been harassed or bullied at school as a result of their sexuality.

In Tehachapi, California, 13-year-old Seth Walsh died on Tuesday, several days after trying to hang himself from a tree in his backyard following years of taunting over his sexual orientation. Less than a week earlier, 13-year-old Texas teen Asher Brown shot himself to death after enduring bullying over his small stature, his religion and, possibly, his sexual orientation, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Gay activists and "Savage Love" columnist Dan Savage launched a new YouTube channel called "It Gets Better." The channel gives positive examples of gay adults living their lives after suffering serious bullying in their youths in order to give hope to GLBT teens who may be struggling with abuse from their peers. Gay children are four times more likely than their straight peers to commit suicide and nine out of ten gay kids say they have been the victims of bullies at some point in their lives.

Since launching on September 15, the "It Gets Better" channel has had nearly 500,000 views.

MTV's ongoing "A Thin Line" project also provides stories and resources for anyone who believes they are being cyberbullied or who is looking for ways to stop harassment by digital means.

Hayley Williams On 'Glee' Salute: 'I Felt Like I Was Levitating'

Paramore's 'The Only Exception' featured on Britney Spears episode.

On Tuesday night's Britney-riffic episode of "Glee," there was just one performance (aside from that part where Mr. Schue sang Michael McDonald in his new Corvette) that didn't center on all things Spears: Lea Michele's rather stirring rendition of Paramore's "The Only Exception," a key track off last year's Brand New Eyes album.

And while, to some, the inclusion of the song might have seemed a bit, well, odd (or, at least, "not Britney") in a lot of ways, Michele's performance — which ended with tears streaming down her face — sort of stole the show. It was a pretty powerful moment ... especially if you were the girl who wrote the song.

In the hours following the episode, Paramore's Hayley Williams took to her Twitter account to praise Michele's performance, and say that she was "so humbled" to have one of her band's tunes on the show.

Of course, MTV News wanted to get Williams' take on all this "Glee" madness. Given how nuts everything has been since the episode aired, it took her about a day to get back to us. And, not surprisingly, when she finally did, she still felt like she was floating on cloud nine.

"I can't even describe how I felt hearing one of our songs on a hit show like 'Glee,' " she wrote in an e-mail. "Lea Michele sang it beautifully, and I liked what she changed vocally. I felt like I was levitating off of my friend's couch trying to understand it was really happening!"

Yes, it really happened. And, from the looks of things, it's not going to stop happening anytime soon. On Thursday (September 30), nearly 48 hours since the episode first aired, the "Glee" version of "Exception" is holding steady on the iTunes singles chart. It's currently third, behind the Far East Movement's "Like a G6" and, naturally, the "Glee" version of Britney's "Toxic."

Last Thursday, in his syndicated sex-advice column "Savage Love," Dan Savage wrote about the case of Billy Lucas, a 15-year-old high school student in Indiana who committed suicide after being taunted by his classmates for being gay.

In the column — titled "Give 'Em Hope," from a quote by openly gay politician Harvey Milk — Savage, himself an openly gay man, lamented that he couldn't have sat down with Lucas, even for five minutes, and told him "however bad things were, however isolated and alone he was, it gets better."

But then he realized that, while it was too late to talk to Billy Lucas, it wasn't too late to talk to the millions of kids just like him. So, right then and there, he and his husband decided to do just that. They sat down in front of a camera and told their stories about their horrific high school experiences and, more importantly, how they both survived, thrived and have gone on to live happy, healthy, joyful lives. They posted the video on YouTube and asked other gay, bisexual and transgender adults to do the same. And that's when the It Gets Better project began.

"I posted something to my blog about Billy Lucas — who might not have even been gay, he wasn't out if he was gay, and not all kids who experience anti-gay bullying are gay — but he was bullied for being gay. ... And I was reading about him and about Justin Aaberg [another teenager who committed suicide after being bullied at school] in Minnesota, and the reaction as an openly gay adult, always, when you read these stories is, 'I wish I could've talked to this kid for five minutes, so I could've told him it gets better,' " Savage told MTV News on Thursday (September 30). "And it occurred to me, when I was really turning over the Billy Lucas case in my mind, that I could talk to these kids. ... I could use social media, I could go on YouTube, I could make a digital video and I could post it, and I could directly address them and tell them, 'It gets better.'

"When a gay teenager commits suicide, it's because he can't picture a life for himself that's filled with joy and family and pleasure and is worth sticking around for," he continued. "So I felt it was really important that, as gay adults, we show them that our lives are good and happy and healthy and that there's a life worth sticking around for after high school."

Of course, the issue of the bullying — and digital abuse — of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender teenagers isn't a new one, but for the most part, coverage has been limited to local news. Sadly, that's changed in recent days, with the apparent suicide of 18-year-old Rutgers University freshman Tyler Clementi, who reportedly leapt from the George Washington Bridge after his roommate secretly taped (and subsequently posted) video of him having a sexual encounter with another man.

Suddenly, unwittingly, the It Gets Better project became national news too. And while getting his message out to the masses — or, as he puts it, "those who need to see these videos" — is important, the sad thing, according to Savage, is that it's too late for Clementi.

"Anybody whose privacy was invaded the way Tyler Clementi's privacy was invaded would've been outraged, humiliated and embarrassed and angry, but we have to ask ourselves: What pushed him to suicide?" Savage said. "I believe that this video invasion of his privacy, this streaming of this intimate, private moment, this outing was the last straw. And I suspect that Tyler Clementi, as we find out more about him, we'll find that he was a victim of bullying in high school, bullying in middle school ... It's really hard to look at this suicide and not see, perhaps, the culmination of years and years of abuse, and a moment — for Tyler Clementi — of despair."

And with the Clementi case making headlines nationwide, It Gets Better has been flooded with videos from all around the world of LGBT men and women looking to share their stories, to spread hope. The outpouring of support has been tremendous, but Savage knows that, sadly, the mainstream media will soon shift its focus away from the issue. That's why he promises It Gets Better will continue on forever, if possible.

"It's been so overwhelming, [and] we want to create an archive that lives online forever, for each generation of gay kids coming up, so they can go there and they can see these stories," he said. "I'm hearing from mothers of bullied gay teenagers who are sitting down to watch these videos together and taking such hope for their futures, and that's what I want to see. I want to see the people who need to see these videos finding their way to them. Not just today or tomorrow, but whenever."

Perez Hilton has long been at the forefront of helping gay youths feel comfortable with themselves. Given the number of teen suicides due to sexuality-related bullying, including Tyler Clementi's recent death, it comes as no surprise that Perez is speaking up for those who feel they can't.

"I'm just beyond sad — I'm crushed," the celebrity blogger told MTV News on Thursday (September 30). "And also compelled to acting by the recent rash of young people killing themselves because of gay bullying and being harassed in school because people might think that they're gay."

And, Perez wants everyone to know that there's a place confused teens can visit to help them see there's a better way than suicide to deal with the pressure.

"Everybody can do something to reach out to troubled youth that are going through difficult times because of gay bullying," he explained. "This author, Dan Savage, who has a great column, started this project called the It Gets Better project. A lot of celebrities have made videos; I made one."

He explained that with stars like Michael Urie of "Ugly Betty," Jay Manuel of "America's Next Top Model" and singer Ciara onboard, there's no reason why anyone should feel uncomfortable with themselves.

"I think it's important for young people to hear stories from others who have been through similar situations," he said. "And they can see that, yeah, it will get better. I may be going through a difficult time now, but I do have options, and killing yourself is not and should not be one of those."

Perez cheered one major television cast he says is helping to spread that message.

"I have taken it upon myself to reach out to every celebrity possible to lend their time and voice to reaching out to gay youth and to those that may be contemplating suicide, and a lot of them have responded very favorably," he explained. "In fact, I'm very excited 'cause I've heard that the cast of 'Glee,' whom I reached out to, has gotten back to me and said that they're going to work on a video."

Perez said that if any show has helped gay youths feel accepted, "Glee" is that show.

" 'Glee' is the perfect show to reach out to young kids, and, actually, I think that 'Glee' is already doing a lot of good," he said. "The character of Kurt is probably saving lives just by being visible and being on broadcast television. So it's wonderful that celebrities want to be involved, and I encourage everyone, celebrity or not, to make their own video and to talk to classmates, talk to relatives, brothers, sisters, neighbors — anyone who may be going through a difficult time — and tell them that you're there for them."

It seems the excitement around "The Social Network" is at a fever pitch. And at the New York premiere of the David Fincher-directed flick about the founding of Facebook, stars Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake couldn't help but sing the director's praises.

"I think that anyone who loves movies loves David Fincher," Timberlake raved. "He forces you to watch the movie smartly. He's unapologetic. The thing I got out of it was what an actor's director he is. ... He's sort of helping us develop this story."

Eisenberg weighed in on Fincher's incredible eye and the look that he gave the flick. "He brought an incredible aesthetic to this movie that you might not expect from movie about Facebook or a movie written by Aaron Sorkin, who's known for these incredibly clever characters and really amazing dialogue. There's a really strong aesthetic. "You'll see the characters are very complicated ... and he lets the actors really find that in a luxurious way."

The same way Eisenberg and Timberlake are raving about Fincher, critics have been falling in love with the flick, which Timberlake has said will "split" viewers. "I can tell you, you don't make a movie hoping that people don't like it," Timberlake joked, with Eisenberg adding, "Although that seems to always happen. I don't know why!"

So why has the flick been garnering so much buzz? "I think that something as big as social networking ... it becomes a phenomenon," Timberlake mused. "And I think this movie having that as a catalyst [allows] our characters to create some great drama."

Rihanna has already proved she can conquer the dance floor, and if her her "Battleship" co-star Alexander Skarsgård is to be believed, she's not having problem transitioning into the world of film either. In an interview with GQ UK, the "True Blood" star talked about working on the songstress' feature film debut.

The Swedish actor, who will play a commander of a Navy destroyer, said that despite Rihanna's busy schedule, she's performing well.

"This is her first movie but she's great, she's really really good in it," Skarsgård said. "She's got a crazy schedule. She's really diligent and I'm impressed. We would work and then she'd fly to LA to perform at the MTV [Video] Music Awards and then fly back redeye, land, go straight to set, work all day. No complaints, nothing. She's really solid."

MTV News caught up with Rihanna at the 2010 VMAs, and she said couldn't be happier on the set of the board-game-based film. "I'm really enjoying it, actually. I like it," she gushed.

When asked how it was working with Skarsgård, Rihanna replied, "He's really cool, just laid-back. He doesn't get in the way. [He's] not very talkative, but he's a really cool guy and that's [to] everybody — not just the cast."

Skarsgård, who co-starred in Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi" video, described that shoot as "crazy" and "a lot of fun," and he revealed that the experience with the Barbadian songstress is a bit different considering the amount of time he's spent working time with the pop stars. "[Filming Battleship] is a different experience because Rihanna, we're out there together for a couple of months," he said.

Photos of a Rihanna in Hawaii, sporting a short brunette hairdo and a traditional U.S. Navy uniform, surfaced earlier this month.

"Battleship" will land in theaters on May 25, 2012.

Comedian Greg Giraldo's death, reportedly due to an accidental prescription-drug overdose, has struck a chord throughout Hollywood. But friends and family will be able to pay tribute to the late stand-up Friday night, as the time scheduled for his performance at New York's Governor's Comedy Club will serve as his memorial.

TMZ reports that the manager of the Levittown, New York, club plans to pay homage to the beloved comedian.

"We just want to commemorate his life," the manager told the website.

Friday's public ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 p.m., the exact time the comedian was supposed to hit the venue's stage.

In homage to the performer, the club will play his DVDs on its television screens. While there won't be an admission fee, donations for Giraldo's family will be accepted.

The comedian, who was well-known for his performances on Comedy Central Roasts and late-night talk shows, died Wednesday, after an accidental prescription-pill overdose last weekend. He had been hospitalized in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where he passed away with his family by his side.

Another fellow stand-up comedian, Patton Oswalt, also remembered the 44-year-old by suggesting that Giraldo's talent will live on, even in heaven.

"Really, Universe? Greg Giraldo? F--- off," he tweeted. "Just went way out of my way not to drive past Laugh Factory. If I see Giraldo's name on that marquee, gonna lose it." And, "If there's a heaven then Einstein, Asimov, Voltaire and Anne Frank are getting the sh-- roasted out of 'em tonight. #giraldo."

In less than a week, Taylor Swift will begin to unveil tracks from her autobiographical new album, Speak Now, every week until its release. What fans won't hear during the countdown are any of the additional tracks available on the deluxe edition of the album, which is only available at Target. The mega-retailer has posted details on its exclusive CD/DVD package, including the expanded album's track list.

In addition to the standard 14-song set, the deluxe edition will include the new tracks "Ours," "If This Was a Movie" and "Superman." It's only expected that the teen sensation would offer fans bonus material, as she's explained that the album was a full of two year's worth of firsthand experiences. Swift has also stripped down three tracks and given fans a bonus disc with a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the video for album's lead single, "Mine," as well as the official clip itself.

Earlier this month, the songstress revealed that she was excited to treat fans to the deluxe edition of the album, saying, "I'm all about being able to give the fans special extras whenever I can, so I love that this version has video footage and even some additional songs."

"I've loved my fans from the very first day, but they've said things and done things recently that make me feel like they're my friends — more now than ever before," she writes. "I'll never go a day without thinking about our memories together."

Near the end of her bio, the superstar touches on why it was so important to incorporate her personal experiences into the new album.

"I only have the option of writing about things that happen in my life, so thankfully a LOT has happened in my life in the last two years," she writes. "I know I don't always say the right thing at the right time or speak up when I should, but I write it all down. I get my guitar and a pen and all of a sudden, I have a chance to say exactly what I meant to say in real life. Some of the things I wrote about are things everyone saw me go through. Some of the things I wrote about are things nobody ever knew about. I'm beyond excited for you to hear these stories and confessions."

Ten years out of the spotlight didn't put a damper on Sade's shine, as the runaway success of her latest LP, Soldier of Love, proves. The British songstress owned the Billboard charts earlier this year with a collection of signature soulful cuts, which spent weeks at the top spot and scored more than 800,000 scans within a month of its February release.

Earlier this year, Keys expressed her excitement about having the soul-music superstar participate in this year's event. "Sade? Jay-Z? Both icons and both major influences of mine," Keys said in a statement. Would Lindsay Lohan Be Helped By A Conservatorship?

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 12:20 AM PDT

Troubled actress' family reportedly looking into taking over her affairs.

It looks like troubled actress Lindsay Lohan might be borrowing a page out of the Britney Spears playbook. Much like Spears, who emerged from a troubled period of erratic behavior, legal problems and forced hospitalization thanks to a strict conservatorship overseen by her father, Lohan's family is reportedly considering putting a similar program in place to help her get her stalled career, and life, back on track in light of her latest trip to rehab.

Spears began to emerge from a dangerous career spiral in early 2008 when her father was named conservator of her estate, giving him control over the management of her personal and financial affairs, as well as her health care. In Spears' case, that power extends to hiring security guards, removing people from his daughter's residence, approving or revoking contracts on her behalf and having access to her medical records and limiting who can visit her in the hospital.

CNN reported Thursday (September 30) that following Lohan's decision to check into rehab this week in the wake of her recent jailing for a failed drug test, her estranged father, Michael Lohan, is considering a similar program. Michael was slated to meet with a lawyer on Thursday as preparation for an appearance before the judge in Lindsay's case to ask that he give approval for two conservators to assume control over Lindsay's day-to-day affairs.

In the typical chaos that surrounds the fractured Lohan family, though, Michael was reportedly rushing to file conservatorship papers before his ex-wife, Dina Lohan, and Lindsay's manager, Lou Taylor (who has also worked with Britney), file their own request to serve as Lindsay's conservators.

"Since Dina and Lou are going to try to be co-conservators, I had a choice of fighting it or petitioning for the purpose of appointing two conservators who don't have an interest in Lindsay's money, but rather her as a person and human being," Michael Lohan said. His plan calls for one conservator to oversee Lindsay's finances and another to handle the more personal aspects of her life, from what she eats and wears to where she lives and who she can associate with.

"I just want Lindsay's life and career to be guided by people who are in it with their hearts, not their hands," Michael Lohan said.

Lindsay checked into rehab in Southern California on Monday and is expected to remain there until a probation violation hearing on October 22, at which point it's possible a judge could send her back to jail for the positive drug test, which violates the terms of the actress' probation.

Spears was back in court herself Thursday for a meeting with a judge to review the status of her conservatorship. TMZ reported that the brief meeting resulted in Judge Reba Goetz saying that "at this time, all orders will remain in full force and effect."

By most accounts, Spears has thrived under the reportedly very strict measure enforced by her father, Jamie, in her conservatorship, getting her musical career back on track and mounting one of the most successful tours of 2009.
