Students Speak Out Against 'Senseless' Cyberbullying

WASHINGTON, D.C. — It's been several weeks since the nation was stunned by Tyler Clementi's suicide. The Rutgers University freshman took his own life after his roommate allegedly posted a video of Clementi's intimate encounter with another man.

On college campuses, the incident raised awareness about the dangers of cyberbullying and the strains felt by students who have been digitally harassed. The issue is likely to be a topic of conversation on Thursday (October 14), when President Obama takes the stage for an MTV youth town hall special called "A Conversation With President Obama."

MTV News visited Howard University on Wednesday to ask students about their thoughts on the issue.

"[Considering] that suicide, especially among the gay population, is on the rise, it's one of the most disheartening things to experience," said freshman Castell Abner III, 18, who said he knows what that kind of harassment is like because it happened to someone in his family. "I know exactly what it's like to experience someone being bullied because of their sexual orientation ... it's disgusting ... bullying doesn't accomplish anything ... especially at a place of higher learning, where [diversity] should be celebrated."

Nearly all of the students we talked to said they had either been the victims of bullying or knew someone who had been and all agreed that the anonymity and ubiquity of Facebook, MySpace and AOL's popular instant messaging service make it easier for students to be harassed.

"I think it's senseless," said Maurice Gattis, 18, who favors some government action on the issue. "In the digital age, you don't have many laws that govern what happens outside of schools and campuses and what happens on Facebook or MySpace or any social networking [site]. All these bullying [incidents] are occurring and there's no laws in place to stop them from happening and they're having adverse effects. I think the government should step in to protect us from cyberbullying."

Detroit's Justin Jennings, 18, said it seems as if cyberbullying is far more prevalent these days, especially at universities, and whether it has to do with sexual orientation or just not fitting in, he also believes the government should take action.

"Open bullying, it should [lead to] suspension," he said, proposing sanctions at universities for those who engage in cyberbullying. "People are staying on the Internet 90 percent of the time. You never know what people are going through. If someone kills themselves on your hands ... it's not going to be good."

At the end of the day, 19-year-old Christianna Ware said she thinks it's up to each individual to act responsibly, but she agreed that the government should look into passing laws that could protect online privacy so "you cannot post people's private information online just because you feel like it. The situation with the boy's room?" she said, referring to Clementi allegedly being recorded while in his own dorm room. "Where can [you] really be safe at if you can't be safe in your own little space? That's the only square that you have in college to call your own and you have to share it with someone else. But you don't have any privacy because they go online and post it, which is not fair."

Whether it's cyberbullying, the U.S. military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy, the economy, job creation or some other pressing issue, you too can ask the president about his plans to remedy the situation. He'll be taking questions from Twitter, as well as the live audience, during Thursday's conversation. From now through the live show, tweet your questions with the hashtag #ask jobs or #ask economy (or another topic that's important to you). You can also visit the Twitter Tracker to submit your question and see which #ask topics are trending.

We're not just looking for your questions, though. We're also interested in how you're feeling about the country, the world and your own lives. We want to hear from you about your greatest hopes and fears, so tweet your answer to those questions to #mygreatesthope and #mygreatestfear, and your thoughts might get read during the live broadcast.

Do you think the government should draft legislation to address cyberbullying? Share your opinions in the comments before asking the president about it on Thursday.

"A Conversation With President Obama," a production of MTV News and BET News, will be hosted by MTV News' Sway Calloway, BET's April Woodard and CMT's Katie Cook. The show will air live at 4 p.m. ET/ 3 p.m. CT (and tape-delayed at 4 p.m. PT) on MTV, BET, CMT, mtvU, Centric and Tr3s. The show will also stream on MTV.com, BET.com, CMT.com and Tr3s.com and will be made available on-demand 30 days after its initial airing.

Drake Says He's 'Evolved' Since Last Year's Hottest MCs List

'I think I had a lot of pressure and a lot of things to prove,' Drizzy tells MTV News of landing at #3 before his debut.

Drake made his debut on MTV's Hottest MCs in the Game list last year, landing at #3.

The nod was due largely to his breakout mixtape, So Far Gone, on which Drake's mix of melodic R&B crooning and biting rhymes propelled him to stardom. This year, the rapper released his first album, Thank Me Later, refining his formula and transforming from rookie sensation to bona fide hit maker.

According to Drake, it's his consistency from a standout mixtape to his successful debut that marks his candidacy for this year's upcoming list.

"I think I had a lot of pressure and a lot of things to prove," Drake told MTV News. "And a lot of the comments last time were, 'He didn't have an album out and he's still a mixtape rapper. He has a lot to prove.' I think with Thank Me Later, it was a solid delivery on a high-pressure situation."

Although Thank Me Later, like its predecessor, features a balance of singing and rapping, Drake said he improved lyrically on the effort and he takes pride his budding skills.

"I worked hard on trying to stay interesting," he explained. "I feel like my flow has evolved a bit from the last time you did [the list].

"One thing I can say, I'm proud of the raps on Thank Me Later," Drake continued. "If you ask me what my corrections would be on this album, I wouldn't say the raps could be iller. They can always be iller, but that wasn't my thing. I was in a more sound-and-hook zone, where I would want to make those stronger. But rap-wise, I think I delivered. 'Over' was a strong rap song. 'Up All Night' and, if you get into the album cuts, 'Thank Me Now,' 'The Resistance,' those are songs I'm proud of, rap-wise. I think, based off of the consistency, it was a good record."

Where do you think Drake belongs on this year's list? Let us know in the comments!

Come back to MTVNews.com next Monday, October 18, when the Hottest MCs in the Game will start to be revealed. And until then, talk about your picks in the comments below.

For some guys, meeting Taylor Swift is on their bucket list of life goals — yes, we're talking about you, "Buried Life" guys. But for Swift, she puts two music legends on her wish list of people to meet, and they're both guys any music lover would die to meet.

"There's so many people I look up to based on their longevity and based on the fact that they've maintained such a culturally relevant career and such a musically relevant career," she told MTV News when she sat down to talk about her new album, Speak Now, due October 25. "People that I look up to like that are Bruce Springsteen and Bono. And I know those are really tough meet-and-greets to get into. And I know that, but I really want to at least try. I would wait in line for that."

Not that Swift hasn't already been lucky enough to meet and work with everyone from John Mayer and Miley Cyrus to T-Pain and Stevie Nicks. But on Speak Now, it will be all about Swift and the people in her life who helped inspire the tracks, including this week's release, "Back to December."

"I've always sort of written songs about situations in life, things that needed to be said," she explained. "And I've always thought that, you know, I write songs about people who deserve to have songs written about them. And whatever they need to hear, whatever is the right thing to say to that person — ends up being said."

Do you think Bono and Bruce will take a meeting with Taylor? Let us know in the comments!

Although we're happy to have rocker Bret Michaels back on TV in his new VH1 reality show "Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It," a part of us is slightly bummed that he won't be sitting alongside Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez on the new season of "American Idol," as was once rumored.

When MTV News caught up with the reality-TV star recently to talk about his new show, we asked his thoughts on almost making the final cut.

"I made it into the top five people. It came down to five people in the end," Michaels said. "I was disappointed. I'd love to have done it. I'm competitive, so it would have been great. On the other hand, to have J.Lo and Steven Tyler — one's a pop icon and one's a rock legend and both, along with Randy, are going to make such awesome TV."

Michaels said the contestants will be in good hands with Tyler. "He lays it out there. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's crazy, and I love that about him. I think he's going to be able to give them great advice," he said. "And I know J.Lo has been through it all. ... I think they've got it covered, and Randy's an amazing producer."

Although Michaels ended up being one of the final five contenders up for the "Idol" judge spot, he said that if he had to lose out to someone, he's glad it was Tyler.

"I can truly say that I lost to a worthy opponent," he said with a smile.

President Obama Should Address Education At MTV Forum, Students Say

MTV's 'A Conversation With President Obama' airs live Thursday at 4 p.m. ET.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — It should come as no surprise that, as MTV News fanned out across the nation's capital this week to ask students at the city's leading universities what was on their minds, education was one of the subjects they were most passionate about.

We were taking the temperature of the most pressing issues on campus in the lead-up to Thursday afternoon's "A Conversation With President Obama," an interactive, one-hour event that will air live and commercial-free on MTV, mtvU, BET, Centric, Tr3s and CMT at 4 p.m. ET and stream live on MTV.com, BET.com and CMT.com.

One of our first stops was Georgetown University, where the high cost of higher education was issue #1.

"I think the most important to me right now is equity in education, because I feel like everybody should be on a level playing field," said New York native Sakina Sojar, 22.

"Not all these kids are getting the right proper education that they should be, so they can't go to the level that they need to go to," offered Nick Campenella, 19.

Some were concerned about paying for college, others the status of their student loans or finding a job after their four-year bid was up, but all agreed that they want to see more from the president when it comes to a college education.

"Students are worried about just making it to college, getting into college and paying for college," said Sumegh Sodani, 18. "At the rate at which college costs are rising even for public universities, it's extremely high."

Whether it's education or some other issue that's on your mind, you can ask the president about his plans to remedy the situation. He will be taking questions from Twitter, as well as the live audience, during Thursday's conversation. From now through the live show, tweet your questions with the hashtag #askjobs or #askeconomy (or another topic that's important to you). Starting Wednesday (October 13), you can also visit the Twitter Tracker to submit your question and see which #ask topics are trending with other users.

We're not just looking for your questions, though, we're also interested in how you're feeling about the country, the world and your own lives. We want to hear from you about your greatest hopes and fears, so tweet your answer to those questions to #mygreatesthope and #mygreatestfear, and your thoughts might get read during the live broadcast.

What do you want to ask President Obama? Share your questions in the comments before asking the president himself on Thursday!

My Chemical Romance's 'Na Na Na' Video Premieres

Band duels desert bad guys in spankin'-new clip.

My Chemical Romance are not messing around in their latest video for "Na Na Na." The band has promised some straight-up, no-frills rock and roll on their upcoming LP, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, but the visual for the album's lead single is a menacing, loopy desert romp that's big on theatricality.

The video begins with the My Chem members gearing up for some trouble, donning bandanas and tight dusty jeans. Flame-haired frontman Gerard Way — as Party Poison — leads the crew from their dingy desert diner hangout as they hit the road wielding candy-colored weapons. With the masked bad guys on their tail, the guys pop up through the roof of the car and let the villains have it, spraying laser-like bullets.

The crew spends most of the video reveling in being badass bandits, taking a pit stop to flip through some magazines and stock up on gas and taking out hapless henchmen at every turn. They've even equipped a cute curly-haired kid along for the ride with an Uzi and guffaw when the child turns the firepower onto a lurking foe. But then again, this is a no-man's land where guns are sold in vending machines, roller-skating outlaws are completely acceptable and everyone has their choice of crazy-looking masks.

The video ends with a final shootout over the aforementioned cute kid who's been taken hostage by the baddies. The guns are drawn and the My Chem guys are laid out, but just when things are looking grim, Way opens his eyes. However, that's also where the video ends, in classic pulpy cliffhanger fashion.

It's fitting that My Chem's first Danger Days single packs a major punch as the group singled out "Na Na Na" as a turning point in the creation of their new album.

"That's the moment where we said, 'This song changes everything. We're starting over right now. We're starting it over with [producer Rob] Cavallo, and we're doing it now,' " Way said earlier this year. "Everything up to that point had felt like we had been in this kind of stasis, and as artists, stasis really equals death. So, it was so bad, the vibe wasn't good, and then 'Na Na Na' happened. And then, all of a sudden, there was this real, big intensity underneath us, and it was the momentum we needed to dig deep and record another album."

Lil Wayne Pens New Letter From Solitary Confinement

A week after Lil Wayne informed fans that he won't be able to post any more letters to WeezyThanxYou.com, the incarcerated MC surprised followers with a note detailing his current situation in solitary confinement.

The superstar lyricist was recently slapped with the punishment, which stemmed from a May incident in which he was caught in his cell with a charger, headphones and a timepiece that also functioned as an MP3 player. In a message posted on his website Wednesday (October 13) and titled "I'm Back!" the MC broke down what exactly his new punishment entails.

"By now I'm guessing that you all have heard about my recent relocation to the bing, which is punitive segregation. Basically, no T.V., no radio, no snacks/junkfood, and one phone call a week," Wayne explained. "This punishment has been handed to me for my earlier MP3 incident. I admit, I f----- up and now I must deal with the consequences."

Weezy admitted that not being able to communicate with his loved ones as frequently is challenging but added that checking out fan mail is helping him get through his bid.

"I do miss being able to hear from my family everyday but once a week will have to suffice. To them, I apologize," he continued. "I'm still able to receive mail so reading and responding is still a huge part of my day. I'd like to thank everyone that sent me B-Day cards and wishes ... that was terrific. You all are wonderful, simply wonderful."

Wayne maintained that despite being stripped of his few creature comforts, he's staying upbeat and pointed out that his love of music led to his current circumstances.

"I just wanted you all to know that I'm good and I'll be good!" he wrote. "But at the end of the day, I did it all for music!!!"

The megastar spitter also updated fans on his post-prison plans, which include more videos for his album I Am Not a Human Being and repackaging his Nino Brown DVD project. Just as he has with other letters, the MC wrapped up the missive with personal shout-outs to dozens of fans. Weezy is slated to be released on November 4.

Rihanna will debut her "Only Girl (In the World)" video Wednesday night (October 13) on MTV at 7:56 p.m. ET, right before "The Buried Life." The clip, directed by longtime collaborator Anthony Mandler (Jay-Z, Drake, Mary J. Blige), accompanies the first offering from the singer's forthcoming album, Loud.

A flame-haired Rihanna dances throughout the clip, first in a scene set against a hilltop as she sports trim white shorts and a matching tank top and headband. Later, the "So Hard" singer lies in a bed of flowers as she belts out the pulsating tune.

"Want you to make me feel like I'm the only girl in the world/ Like I'm the only one you'll ever love/ Like I'm the only one that knows your heart," she sings.

"Only Girl" is #8 on Billboard's Hot 100. Rihanna's Loud is due next month and features collaborations with Drake and Nicki Minaj.

The singer opened up about working with the pair in recent interviews, praising Nicki Minaj during a radio appearance and calling her a star.

"I'm really amazed that she can write like that. [Nicki] not only raps, but she can write songs too," Rihanna explained. "It was really easy, actually. We were going back and forth with the texts on how we were going to get to do it, because we were in two different places and had two opposite schedules."

Rihanna singled out former flame Drake for his work on the remix of "What's My Name," saying Drizzy was the only person for the track.

"Drake is the hottest rapper out right now, and we've always been trying to work together," she told Billboard. "He's the only person I thought could really understand the melody of the song, and the minute he heard it, he said, 'I know exactly what I'm going to do. I love it.' And he did it, like, three days later."

President Obama Ready To 'Engage Young People' At MTV Town Hall

Heather Higginbottom talks to MTV News about youth town hall, which takes place Thursday at 4 p.m. ET.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — When President Obama takes the stage on Thursday for an MTV youth town-hall special called "A Conversation With President Obama," one of the people he will have to thank for getting him up to speed on the issues affecting today's youth is Heather Higginbottom.

"Right now, the stage is being set for a presidential town-hall meeting ... where the president is going to talk to young people about their interests and their concerns, hear about their issues, answer their questions and engage in a dialogue about the future of the country," said Higginbottom, 36, who began her political career as an intern while she was a junior in college before parlaying that into a gig as the deputy national policy director for Senator John Kerry's 2004 presidential run and then into her current gig as Obama's deputy director of the Domestic Policy Council.

As a team of set dressers worked furiously behind her to get the set ready for the show at the BET studios, hammering away at the risers, focusing and hanging lights and assembling a giant map of the U.S., Higginbottom told MTV News what it feels like to be the president's point person on all things domestic.

Thanks to a steady stream of town-hall meetings and backyard forums with voters, Higginbottom said the president is prepared to take questions from the 200-plus college kids in the audience Thursday. "He's relatively up to speed on what people are thinking about, what questions are on their mind," she said. "What he might do especially for this is sit down with some of his advisers, maybe get a little pop-culture briefing, make sure that he is really thinking of the questions that might be on people's mind and be ready to answer them tomorrow night."

MTV has been talking to university students in the Washington area all week, and they told us what they would ask the president, just as other young voters will do during "A Conversation With President Obama," Thursday's one-hour town-hall event airing live and commercial-free on MTV, mtvU, BET, Centric, TR3s and CMT at 4 p.m. ET/PT and stream live on MTV.com, BET.com and CMT.com.

As Obama's right-hand woman on issues including health care, immigration, crime, gay and lesbian issues, poverty and, her lifelong passion, education reform, Higginbottom said her job is to take the president's vision and work with other agencies to make those ideas happen and brief him on current events.

Asked how the president specifically focuses his thoughts for an event like the MTV forum, which is just the latest in a long history of the channel's engagement with major American political figures, Higginbottom said the president's ability to engage crucial young voters is almost second nature.

"He places a huge premium on engaging young people," she said. "You saw that in the campaign in 2008. It's one of the reasons he ran, to engage and lead the country in a new direction. It's important to him to have a discussion, a dialogue, to do the outreach. ... Young people get their information and their news in lots of different ways, so this opportunity is a way for him to engage directly with young people on the issues that they care about."

It helps that the president is surrounded by a legendarily sleep-deprived roster of young staffers who make sure he's up-top-date on issues, as well as two young daughters who keep him on his toes. But Higginbottom said one of the ways Obama stays connected to average Americans is by reading 10 letters from voters every day.

"They often include letters from young people about their concerns," she said of his little-publicized ritual. "Whether it's going to fight in a war, the direction of the economy, the ability to pay for higher education." As an example of how he's listened to some of the comments he's read in those letters, she cited such wins for young people as a provision in the health care law that allows people up to age 26 to stay on their parents' insurance and big steps in reducing the costs of college.

With a crucial midterm election coming up in three weeks that could result in a changing of the guard in Congress, Higginbottom said she hopes viewers of the forum come away with at least one clear message. "What I hope it is ... for young people to be involved in their government, in their democracy, to care about the issues, to vote, to participate and to help affect the direction the country will go in."

If the economy and job creation are your top concerns, you can ask the president about his plans to remedy the situation. He will be taking questions from Twitter, as well as the live audience, during Thursday's conversation. From now through the live show, tweet your questions with the hashtag #askjobs or #askeconomy (or another topic that's important to you). Starting on Wednesday (October 13), you can also visit the Twitter Tracker to submit your question and see which #ask topics are trending with other users.

T.I. has touched many people with his lyrics and on Wednesday (October 13), the MC's words may have saved a life. A young man who threatened to jump off an Atlanta building was coaxed out of committing suicide with the help of the superstar rapper.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a man ascended to the roof of a 22-story building on Peachtree Street just before 4 p.m., threatening to leap to his death. T.I. (born Clifford Harris) told NBC affiliate 11Alive News that he volunteered to help after hearing about the situation on the city's V-103 radio station, which is housed in the Colony Square skyscraper, where the man was threatening to take his own life.

"He came to the scene and offered to talk to him, we told the young man that, and he came down," Officer James Polite told The AJC. The MC reportedly spoke to the man for a few minutes before he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Polite said the man would not face charges. Polite added that authorities appreciated the help.

"He didn't have to stop. He could've kept on going about his business," Polite said. "We're happy it ended the way it did, and we thank him."

The Good Samaritan move comes days before T.I. is scheduled to face his own legal troubles. The chart-topping MC is due in court on Friday after getting arrested in Los Angeles for drug possession. The lyricist is currently on probation after wrapping up a recent jail bid for weapons charges and the arrest is a possible violation of his probation terms.

T.I. reportedly expressed remorse to V-103 listeners for his recent slip-up and vowed to turn things around. (Tip also gave an update on his music — head to the RapFix blog for more.)

Russell Brand and Katy Perry have been keeping the details of their impending nuptials quiet but if it were up to Brand, the duo would get hitched in a Dickensian affair.

During his visit to MTV's "The Seven" on Wednesday (October 13), Brand, who is promoting his book "Booky Wook 2: This Time It's Personal," opened up about his dream wedding and quipped that he would love to tie the knot in 19th-century England.

While chopping it up with "Seven" co-host Kevin Manno, Brand refused to reveal the exact date except to say the event "will be quite soon."

"But it's secret," Brand added. "It's in a place that's very dusty, it's in the distant past, we're gonna be in a time machine. We're getting married in Victorian London!"

Brand eventually conceded that "we can't get married in Victorian London, it's already happened. It was a 100 years ago."

However, he said that he would be down for a throwback event. "If time travel was possible, I would definitely get married in another era," he said.

Since no effective time machine is available, the British comedian and his pop-star fiancée won't be making it official in a bygone era. However, Brand did point out that his bride-to-be employed an old-school approach to bagging the funnyman. When the pair crossed paths at the VMAs last year, Perry apparently wooed Brand with a technique that was probably more common among B.C.-era singles.

"I was hosting the MTV VMA awards, and Katy threw a bottle at my head [and] it really, really, really, really hurt. I don't think anyone ever can explain, 'cause it was a great injustice," Brand said. "I think it might have been a type of very primitive flirting, like a cavewoman might do [with] a caveman."

Perry's approach may have hurt but it also worked, as the two embarked upon a whirlwind romance and their eyebrow-raising remarks have sparked speculation that they already walked down the aisle in a secret ceremony. Brand denied that they are legally husband and wife but emphasized that they're committed to each other.

"Marriage takes place in the heart," Brand said. "So in that sense, we are already married."

What do you think Russell and Katy Perry's wedding will be like? Tell us in the comments!

Rhys Ifans Will Play The Lizard In 'Spider-Man' Reboot

Spidey villain is Dr. Curt Connors by day.

Not to be outdone by Warner Bros.' recent run of exciting superhero-movie news — Superman has a director, Tom Hardy might be in "Batman 3" — Sony has unveiled the identity of the villain in their upcoming "Spider-Man" reboot: Dr. Curt Connors, a.k.a. the Lizard!

According to TheWrap.com, the surgeon-turned-baddie will be played by Rhys Ifans (who was reportedly offered the role earlier this week).

Once Ifans' name was thrown into the mix, the Internet lit up with speculation as to what villain might appear in Marc Webb's new film. Venom, played by Topher Grace in Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man 3," was the most popular assumption, but according to two unnamed sources credited by the Wrap, that character will not be featured in the movie.

So who is the Lizard? In the comics, Curtis Connors is a gifted surgeon who loses his arm when he goes to serve in the war to help injured GIs. He becomes obsessed with reptilian regeneration as a potential cure for his amputated arm and develops a serum that, at first, does indeed re-grow his lost appendage. But soon after — in typical comic book fashion — it turns its creator into a monster.

Naturally, no plot details have been revealed about the new "Spider-Man," only castmembers Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and now Ifans as the Lizard.

"Spider-Man" is set to begin production in December and will hit theaters in 3-D on July 3, 2012.

What do you think of the Lizard and Ifans' casting? Let us know in the comments!

'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Ruling Applauded By Students Before MTV Forum

MTV's 'A Conversation with President Obama' airs live Thursday at 4 p.m. ET.
By Gil Kaufman

WASHINGTON, D.C. — When you're enrolled at one of the premier universities in the nation's capital, it behooves you to be up on current events. That's why when MTV News visited Howard University on Wednesday (October 13) to ask students how they're feeling about the decision this week by U.S. District Court Judge Virginia Phillips to issue an injunction declaring an end to the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy, we got plenty of strong opinions.

"People should be able to express their selves however they want to," said Justin Jennings, 18, of Detroit. "It's your personal business. The government shouldn't really tamper with that. ... But it's the government; they do what they want."

Phillips declared the 17-year old policy unconstitutional on the grounds that it violates both the free-speech and due-process rights of people serving in the military by forcing gay and lesbian soldiers to remain mute about their sexual orientation under threat of being discharged. Jennings seemed resigned to the fact that even though Phillips' decision was greeted with cheers by longtime foes of the Clinton-era policy, it's likely that the U.S. Department of Justice could appeal the ruling in the next 60 days.

That issue and many more are likely to be topics of conversation Thursday when President Obama takes the stage for an MTV youth town-hall special called "A Conversation With President Obama." MTV has been talking to university students in the Washington area all week, and they told us what they would ask the president, just as other young voters will do during the one-hour event, airing live and commercial-free on MTV, mtvU, BET, Centric, Tr3s and CMT at 4 p.m. ET/PT and stream live on MTV.com, BET.com and CMT.com.

Maurice Gattis, 18, has a lot of gay friends but said the "don't ask" policy might be preferable to the alternative. "I believe that 'don't ask, don't tell' in the military is a necessary evil," he said. "Being that you're in that environment, and it's sad but true that being gay in our nation is looked down upon today. To be openly gay in the military, you might be opening yourself up to be targeted, so I think it's almost one of the things that serve as protection or a safety net for people who are gay in the military."

Another Howard student, 19-year-old Christianna Ware of Cincinnati, said she has several openly gay family members and applauded the judge's decision because she just can't understand why someone who is willing to serve should have to hide who they are. "If you're willing to serve in our national forces, you should be privileged to all the rights. You should be able to drink, you should be able to get married, you should be able to state your sexual orientation," she said. "But again, there's also the aspect that maybe you don't want to, but you should have the option. ... I do feel as if 'don't ask, don't tell' should be lifted."

Ware's feelings were echoed by a number of other students, including psych major Bertrom Tate, 21, who said the "don't ask" policy "dehumanizes you" and chemistry major Jacinda Small, 18, who agreed that the policy was just nonsense. "A soldier is a soldier no matter what their sexual orientation," she said. "If you really needed soldiers that bad, it wouldn't matter."

During his run for the White House, President Obama promised to overturn "don't ask," which has affected some 14,000 service members to date. He got some help in September, when Lady Gaga hosted a rally in Maine in an attempt to get the two moderate senators from that state to vote in favor of bringing the bill that could have repealed "don't ask" to the Senate floor. It was part of a larger crusade that Gaga fronted that included an oft-tweeted YouTube video and a trip to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards with a handful of discharged gay soldiers in tow.

The threat of a Republican filibuster shot down the piece of legislation, and the upcoming midterm elections could end up shifting the numbers in Congress in a way that could bury action on "don't ask, don't tell" for years.

Whether it's "don't ask," the economy, job creation or some other pressing issue, you too can ask the president about his plans to remedy the situation. He will be taking questions from Twitter, as well as the live audience, during Thursday's conversation. From now through the live show, tweet your questions with the hashtag #ask followed by the issue that matters to you, so "#ask economy," "#ask jobs," etc. Starting Wednesday, you can also visit the Twitter Tracker to submit your question and see which #ask topics are trending with other users. Twitter users can also share their dreams and their worries with the president by using the hashtags #mygreatesthope and #mygreatestfear during the show.

What do you want to ask President Obama? Share your questions in the comments before asking the president himself on Thursday!

'Glee'-Cap: Secrets Come Out During 'Duets'

Posted: 13 Oct 2010 03:42 AM PDT

This week's musical tribute has us seeing double!
By Jim Cantiello

This week's "Glee" once again pitted the gleeks against each other — and paired them up — as they performed duets and competed for a gift certificate at Breadsticks. That amazing restaurant hasn't made its way to Times Square yet, but Jim got into the spirit anyway and recruited a very special partner for this week's "Glee"-cap. Sing along!

"When you're different, when you're special, sometimes you have to get used to being alone." — Kurt Hummel

Jim 1: Duets
Jim 2: Duets
Jim 1: Secrets
Jim 2: Duets
Jim 1: Don't fret.
Jim 2: Don't you fret.
Jim 1: I won't forget
Jim 2: We won't forget
Together: To recap "Glee."

Jim 1: This week Mr. Schue assigned they split off into doubles.
Jim 2: Bribed 'em with free dinner so there's drama for the couples.
Jim 1: Mike and Tina having issues, they almost nearly split.
Jim 2: In the end it wasn't them who won the gift certificate.

Jim 2: [Spoken] The new guy and Quinn win!
Jim 1: [Spoken] Shh! Spoiler alert!

Jim 2: Kurt is feeling lonely, needs a boyfriend really bad,
Jim 1: Wants to duet with the new guy,
Jim 2: "But he's not gay,"
Jim 1: ... says Kurt's dad,
Jim 2: So instead a solo "Victor/Victoria" is what Kurt sings.
Jim 1: But, "Glee," sexuality and gender are two different things.

[Jims sing together]
Duets bring out everybody's worst,
Animosity in bursts,
They fiend for breadsticks and go nuts!

There's scheming
Cheerleaders hooking up,
Two girls without a cup.
They're not lesbians, just sluts!

Jim 2: It was a night that Artie won't forget too soon.
Jim 1: Brittany carried him, then mounted him and took him to the moon.
Jim 2: But when he found out she was using him just for his voice,
Jim 1: Artie pulled out of the duet tête-à-tête by choice.

Jim 2: [Spoken] If only he pulled out the night before.
Jim 1: [Spoken] Ha! Now that's funny.
Jim 2: [Spoken] Thanks!

Jim 1: So the new guy's getting Slushied everywhere he tries to go.
Jim 2: Finn and Rachel throw their chances so he doesn't quit the show.
Jim 1: New guy teaches Quinn how to play guitar and rock out,
Jim 2: But she freaks when he goes in to get some action with his co-- out.

[Jims sing together]
Secrets
Haunt the new guy every day,
But it isn't that he's gay,
Just that he tried to dye his hair.

He showers
More than anyone I know,
But if I had his torso
I'd also always be that bare.

[Spoken]
Jim 2: Jim?
Jim 1: Yes, Jim!
Jim 2: Here's something I'm pondering. His hair color's a lie, but shouldn't somebody have spied that the carpet and the drapes don't exactly jive?
Jim 1: You're embarrassing me.
Jim 2: You're embarrassing me.

[Jims sing together]
And that was "Glee!"

'Jackass 3D' Guys Say 3-D 'Really Flatters What We Do'

'[We had] the most expensive 3-D camera ever made, and we decide to shoot wiener baseball with it,' director Jeff Tremaine laughs.

For anyone worried that the 3-D aspect of "Jackass 3D" will lend itself to lame gimmickry or cheap stunts (à la a few of Hollywood's less-successful post-production projects released earlier this year), that is not the case.

Take it from the men themselves. Chris "Party Boy" Pontius, Bam Margera and director Jeff Tremaine assured us that the "Jackass" crew put on their classiest filmmaking hats and took full advantage of the technical scope their million-dollar Phantom 3-D camera provided them, with these two words: wiener baseball.

"He's terrible with a real bat, but he's awesome with the wiener bat," Tremaine told MTV News regarding a particularly hilarious stunt performed by Pontius and Margera in the film. "[We had] the most expensive 3-D camera ever made, and we decide to shoot wiener baseball with it."

"Yeah, close to a million-dollar camera, and we spend our time throwing a ball at his wiener and me trying to catch it in my mouth," Margera admitted.

"It's like what little boys would do if they had grown-up wieners," Pontius explained with a grin.

The guys went on to say that shooting in 3-D, particularly the scenes in which they slow down the "impact stunts," totally enhances what they do best: punching each other in the face, getting hit in the groin with random objects, etc.

"The Phantom camera and the 3-D, it really flatters what we do," Pontius said. "It makes it look as real as it is."

"You can't fake the impacts when they're that slow," Tremaine added.

"The suckiest part is that Tremaine makes sure everything is completely real," Margera complained. "In a [regular] Hollywood movie, if you're going to have a stunt with a porta-potty with crap all in it, you could have fake crap," he explained, referencing the outhouse bungee in the film. "But no, he saves up 1,000 pounds of real dog sh--. I'm 50 feet away, and I'm throwing up just by standing 50 feet away."

"It has to be real," Tremaine said. "It's 'Jackass.' "

Drake Says He Wrote Alicia Keys' 'Un-Thinkable' About Nicki Minaj

Rapper admits that Minaj was his inspiration for the forbidden-love track.

On her single "Un-Thinkable (I'm Ready)," Alicia Keys sings the tale of a tempting and forbidden love that may not be accepted by everyone. The song, which was co-written by Drake, has been rumored to be the story of Keys' own personal experiences. But who would have thought that the song was also inspired by the Toronto MC's feelings about Nicki Minaj?

In a recent interview with BET.com, the Young Money rapper confirmed speculation that he wrote the song with the Harajuku Barbie in mind.

"It is [about Minaj], I'm not gonna lie," Drake said. "The concept came from a conversation that we had, or conversations we have. I wrote it based off two things: Number one, based off that, and then two, based off Alicia and Swizz and their situation, and it just seemed fitting. It was like the perfect concept."

It was Minaj who originally spilled the beans and revealed that she was Drake's "Un-Thinkable" inspiration. In a recent interview with Complex, Nicki said, "You know what else he told me he wrote for me? The Alicia Keys song 'I'm Ready.' I happen to love the song. I never told anyone that; I hope he won't get mad that I said that."

Despite the rappers' supposed brother-and-sister relationship, the duo have raised eyebrows with their short-term Twitter marriage and Drake's admitted crush on Nicki. In an interview with MTV2's "Sucker Free Countdown," Drizzy admitted he's always had love for Minaj, saying, "I've always really, actually, really had a crush on her, always really loved her, and she's always just looked at me as, like, her little brother."

Co-produced by Drake's right-hand man Noah "40" Shebib, "Un-Thinkable" served as the third single from Keys' latest album, The Element of Freedom. After the song's release, Drake reworked the track to include a new verse.

What do you think about Drake writing "Un-Thinkable" about Nicki? Let us know in the comments!

Harlem rapper Huddy Combs, a.k.a. Huddy 6 (born Andre Hudson), was killed in a car accident in New York on Wednesday morning (October 13), a spokesperson for the Port Authority confirmed to MTV News.

"The driver was traveling southbound towards New Jersey on the George Washington bridge when his vehicle struck a truck," Port Authority spokesperson Steve Coleman said. "[Andre] Hudson was pronounced [dead] on the scene and the female passenger was taken to a local hospital."

A spokesperson at the Hackensack Medical University Center confirmed that the passenger was brought there but would not reveal her condition.

In hip-hop circles, Huddy is mostly known as a close associate of Cam'ron. In 2005, Cam'ron credited his childhood friend with saving his life when he was shot two times while leaving a party during the Howard University homecoming weekend in Washington, D.C. According to Cam, it was Huddy who noticed the assailant as he was sitting in the passenger seat of Cam's Lamborghini and directed Cam to a local hospital after he was shot. "My man here saved my life," Cam said at the time.

Huddy Combs got his feet wet in the music industry as a member of Mase's Harlem World rap group in the late '90s. In 1999, the group released their only LP, The Movement, which subsequently went gold. Harlem World disbanded shortly after the project was released.

Huddy later found himself running alongside former Source magazine co-owner Ray Benzino and appeared on Benzino's 2003 anti-Eminem mixtape Die Another Day: Flawless Victory, as well as his album Arch Nemesis (2005). Huddy became a fixture on New York's party scene after his career in music seemingly ended, promoting hundreds of high-profile events.

After hearing about his passing, Twitter was flooded with RIP Huddy 6 messages. "R.I.P. HUDDY 6," Juelz Santana wrote. "SMFH if u don't or didn't know who he was jus know this, he was HARLEM!!!!"

The hopeless romantics out there on the Internet are still reeling from the news of David Arquette and Courteney Cox's separation. Fans seem genuinely upset about the news (check out the multitude of "Noooo!" "Soooo sad!" exclamations in the comments beneath the news stories) — even after Arquette somewhat callously revealed a few personal details of his relationship with Cox to Howard Stern on Tuesday.

"We've [been] on a trial separation for a while now," Arquette told Stern and his co-host, Robin Quivers, during Stern's Sirius Radio show. "We go to do 'Scream 4,' and I'm feeling distance, obviously from my wife. We had not had sex at that time in a month or so. Since then, it's been, like, four months or so," he revealed.

On Wednesday (October 13), Arquette took to his Twitter account to try to better explain his comments to Stern.

"Thank you all for your Love and support at this time. I'm trying figuring out how to be the best person I can be," he tweeted to his 22,000 followers.

"But it's been a process of trial and error. I went on Howard Stern yesterday to provide clarity and honesty about what I'm experiencing ... but while doing that I shared too much ... it's alright for me to be honest about my own feelings but in retrospect some of the information I provided involved others and for that I am sorry and humbled..Life is a process of spiritual evolution," he explained.

"I'm sure Courteney and myself will emerge from this painful time better people for what we've learned," he added.

For her part, Cox has remained silent on the matter and has yet to publicly address the issue.

Young voters in D.C. share what they'd ask during Thursday's 'A Conversation With President Obama.'
By Gil Kaufman

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Everyone is stressed about the economy. With unemployment still hovering near double-digits and the class of 2011 facing one of the toughest job markets in years, MTV News hit the streets of the nation's capital on Tuesday and spoke to students at Georgetown University about how they've been impacted by the so-called Great Recession.

They told us what they would ask the president, just as other young voters will do during "A Conversation With President Obama," Thursday's one-hour town hall event airing live and commercial-free on MTV, mtvU, BET, Centric, Tr3s and CMT at 4 p.m. ET and stream live on MTV.com, BET.com and CMT.com.

"Everyone's attitude about money has changed," said Georgia Shibley, 19, who said she's considering going to graduate school rather than trying to wade into the tight job market. It was a sentiment echoed by a number of her fellow students at the private Jesuit university.

Her friend, international student Sita Chantramonklasri, 18, had a similar idea but was more optimistic about her prospects for finding a gig after she graduates. "If I work hard enough in school and go to a good graduate school ... eventually, it will pay off and I'll be able to find a job," she said, admitting that as a college student, she feels a bit sheltered from the harshest aspects of the downturn.

Like everyone, though, she's read and seen plenty of reports about the dire nature of the economy. Chantramonklasri said it doesn't feel like things are harder now than they were in the past. "People would always have to struggle to get a job earlier. ... The same principles apply: If you work hard and put yourself out there, eventually you'll find a job."

As young people face student loan payments and search for jobs, the economy is sure to be one of the prime topics the president will face when he takes the stage in front of 250 students on Thursday. Due in part to the unemployment rate, the country has seen a rise in community college applications and an increase in students opting for a "gap year" before attending university.

Mikholae Hutchinson, a naturalized citizen who emigrated to the U.S. from Jamaica and joined the military in order to afford school, said the money crunch had forced students to make hard choices. "I went with the military to afford certain things because I myself couldn't afford it," said Hutchinson, 22. "I'm completely dependant on the system. For other people not as bold as I am and have to [pay for school] out of pocket ... the pressing issues are: I go to school and I work, and let's say I can't make it to class one day or a couple of days and I drop a letter grade. How am I going to be taken care of if I come to you and say I need help? ... You have to make hard choices for yourself and have to do without a lot ... and so much is asked from you in return."

If the economy and job creation are your top concerns, you too can ask the president about his plans to remedy the situation.
