T.I 'Disappointed' With Sentence, Lawyer Says

On Friday, T.I. was slapped with an 11-month sentence for violating the terms of his probation, but his lawyer said the MC didn't anticipate the severity of the punishment.

"Of course he's disappointed in the sentencing, but at the same time, it's far less than what the government asked for," T.I.'s lawyer Dwight L. Thomas told reporters outside of the Atlanta courthouse. "This is not what he expected and this is not what he wants in his life at this point and time."

Last month the MC was arrested in Los Angeles after he and his wife, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle, were found with drugs. The incident occurred months after T.I. was put on probation following a prison stint for a felony weapons charge. Thomas said the rapper will be on probation once again when he is released.

"He will have to remain drug free during the period of supervised release and we do not expect him to have any violations," Thomas said.

The Associated Press reports T.I. copped to an ongoing struggle with drugs and implored the judge for assistance.

"I want drugs out of my life. If I can get the treatment and counseling I need ... I can beat this," T.I said. "I need help. For me, my mother, my kids, I need the court to give me mercy."

Thomas also responded to assertions made by U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates that the superstar rapper turned in diluted urine samples for drug tests.

"There are lots of reasons for diluted urine. One can drink a lot of alcohol at night ... as the judge indicated, you could be very tired, you could be very dehydrated and you hydrate excessively," Thomas said. "That could give an indication of diluted urine but not necessarily ... intentionally diluted urine."

Thomas did not say whether he felt the sentence was excessively harsh. "The judge made his ruling and we respect that ruling," he maintained.

Hours after T.I.'s sentence was handed down, the superstar lyricist dropped the song "Get Back Up," which features vocals from fellow embattled star Chris Brown. The ATL spitter concedes he has messed up and rhymes about the pressures of fame.

"I admit, yeah, I done some dumb sh--," he raps. "Disappointed everybody, I know/ Try not to hold that against me, though/ My road to redemption has no GPS/ So guess time must be invested for this to be manifested/ Yes, it's hard living life in the spotlight/ Trying to dodge the haters the same time as the cop light/ The Bible says let he without sin cast the stone first/ The sinners are the ones that judge him, who was wrong first?"

Kanye West has used many of his G.O.O.D. Friday joints to bring back the posse cut but his latest track, "Take One for the Team," is the ultimate anthem for keeping things in the family.

G.O.O.D. Music newbie Pusha T kicks off the track with a chorus about the selfless duties of a wingman.

"Your girl a queen, my girl a thing/ You know what though?/ I'mma take, I'mma take this one for the team," Push spits.

Although the track touts team solidarity, West uses his verse to admit he's over being a people-pleaser. Instead, the "Runaway" MC gripes about having to coo over baby photos and endure friends' foul-smelling homes and cheap perfume.

"You know what?/ I figured out I'm not a nice guy/ I shook hands, kissed babies, gave it a nice try," 'Ye raps. "You know what?/ I hate pictures of other people kids/ I hate plastic couches in other people cribs."

Push, however, reveals he's down for the cause, assuring Yeezy that he would pick up a weapons or a drug charge for the G.O.O.D. Music leader.

"Nevermind me, 'Ye have fun/ If the cops ask, that's my gun/ That's my weed, anything you need," Push rhymes.

Even the lone G.O.O.D. Music outsider, Keri Hilson, upholds the family-oriented spirit.

"All I know you the one that I heard about/ And I know you work your way up through word of mouth," Keri belts. "I'mma have to test you in and out/ It's a dirty job but sometimes you gotta take it for the team."

West's newest protégé, CyHi the Prynce, raps about staying within the G.O.O.D. Music fold when it comes to picking out a wingman.

"So I hit Big Sean on the ringer/ I said 'I gotta chick for you that look like a singer'/ On a scale of one to 10 she's a 15-er/ You shoulda seen a n---- face when he seen her."

Having lent his skills to a Philadelphia Get School Youth Summit, Common is familiar with the high energy of the events. But that didn't stop the Chicago MC from getting amped at Friday's , which he said was a fun and inspirational experience for everyone involved.

"It was an incredible day for me but I think it was just a super incredible day for the kids," Common told MTV News. "I was watching them when we [were] speaking and they were listening ... I was in amazement like 'Man, these kids, they're paying attention.' "

The "Go" lyricist said that having the attention of a bunch of teens is important because it's a chance for him to send a powerful message.

"That's very valuable because you know you have their ears, you have their hearts and you need to say something significant," he said. "In a way it's a big responsibility but that's what we live for, that's what we get an opportunity to do. We've been able to fulfill our dreams so it's a blessing to be able to come here and say something and offer something that you feel can inspire them to go fulfill their dreams."

Dallas spitter Dorrough and MTV News' Sway also joined Common at the event. Although the trio hit the school to stress the importance of education, Common said students returned the favor by schooling him some regional footwork.

"The kids of Kimball got live," Common smiled. "They got up and they started doing some dance that I had never seen, I guess it was a ... dance specific to Dallas. Somebody told me it was called [the] Dallas Boogie or something. They was going for it, they was doing their little thing. I was like, "Cool, that's the Dallas Boogie, go for it, rock it."

Common may have learned a new dance but the hip-hop star said purpose of the event was to ensure that students know the value of education. But he's pretty confident the Get Schooled crew got their point across.

"More than anything I'm just glad that if we can affect one or two people," Common said. "But I feel like, all of them have been affected so that's a blessing."

Stay tuned to MTV News for more information about how you can get the president to speak at your commencement celebration at the end of this school year. Get Schooled is a national program aimed at increasing high school and college graduation rates and promoting the importance of education, developed by Viacom in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The guys of the prankster phenomenon "Jackass" are laughing all the way to the bank.

The latest collection of rowdy stunts filmed for viewers' entertainment, "Jackass 3D," debuted with a hefty Friday box-office tally of $21.8 million. This time around, the crew's infamously captivating yet cringe-worthy tricks were enhanced by the magic of 3-D technology and the Johnny Knoxville and Steve-O-helmed posse opened in the top spot.

Hitting theaters with about a third of the "Jackass" haul is the espionage thriller "Red." Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren bring the action of Warren Ellis' graphic novels to the big screen in a tale of slick, shady government cover-ups. The film debuted in second place with an estimated $7.2 million.

The dorm-room, dot-com drama "The Social Network" remained in the top five for a third consecutive week. Moviegoers rang up roughly $3.3 million in ticket sales checking out the Aaron Sorkin and David Fincher-crafted retelling of the rise of Facebook. Friday's figure brings the film's total estimated haul to just over $55 million.

The rom-com "Life as We Know It" kicked off its second Friday in theaters in the fourth-place slot. Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel's attempt to grapple with the ups and downs of unexpected parenthood scored nearly $3.1 million on screens. The film's total estimated gross now stands at $22.7 million.

Bringing up the rear is Disney's family-friendly, horseracing flick "Secretariat." The tale of an underdog equine who went on clench status as the 1973 Triple Crown winner — which also features Diane Lane and John Malkovich — snagged $2.8 million in theaters. The film has brought in around $21 million since its debut last week.

Check out everything we've got on "Jackass 3-D," "Red" and "The Social Network."
