President Barack Obama will take part in a youth town hall special on October 14 called "A Conversation with President Obama." The interactive one-hour event will air live and commercial-free on MTV, MTVu, BET, Centric, TR3s and CMT at 4 p.m. (ET) and stream live on MTV.com, BET.com and CMT.com.

The president will take the stage before an audience of approximately 250 young people representing a broad cross-section of backgrounds, interests and political viewpoints. The show, a production of MTV News and BET News, will be hosted by MTV's Sway Calloway, BET's April Woodard and CMT's Katie Cook.

"Our brands reach and connect with the broadest swath of young people in the U.S. because we understand their interests, their passions and their concerns," said Viacom President and CEO Philippe Dauman in a statement announcing the special forum. "We know that America's youth hold strong views about the challenges our country faces as well as their own aspirations for the future. We are honored that the President has chosen to appear on our cable networks to continue his dialogue with the nation's young people."

During the event, President Obama will answer questions on a wide range of topics from the studio audience as well as from viewers who submit questions via Twitter.

This isn't the first time President Obama has spoken to the MTV audience. Back in October 2007, when he was still Senator Obama, he participated in one of the MTV/MySpace presidential dialogues, during which young voters at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa asked him questions about everything from net neutrality to Iraq, immigration and what kind of Supreme Court justices he would nominate.

Bruno Mars Says <i>Doo-Wops</i> Will Take Fans On 'A Journey'

'These are my greatest hits,' singer/producer says of first full-length album.

For most of 2010, Bruno Mars has been the unlikeliest of hitmakers, the unassuming mastermind behind smash hits like Travie McCoy's "Billionaire," B.o.B's "Nothin' on You" and Cee-Lo's "F--- You."

But on Tuesday (October 5), Mars will officially make the leap to bona fide frontman status when he releases his full-length debut, Doo-Wops & Hooligans. And if you think he's not yet ready for prime time, well, then you don't know Bruno Mars.

"The EP I put out [this year's It's Better If You Don't Understand] just had a couple songs that I've written, but the album is the body of work," he said. "It rounds everything off, you know. These are my greatest hits."

And though Mars is facing felony drug possession charges following his arrest in Las Vegas last month, that speed bump is hardly affecting sales. Aside from all those aforementioned hits, he's also riding high on the success of "Just the Way You Are," the first single off Doo-Wops, which currently sits at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He's accomplished more in one year than most artists achieve in a lifetime, but Mars isn't content to rest on his laurels.

"There's no way to describe the feeling of seeing your music being recognized. ... As an artist, that's what you hope for," he said. "I want the world to fall in love with my music, that's what I'm doing music for. I want to be able to do shows and have people come and see me do my thing."

So, if you only know Mars for his hits, well, he hopes you check out his album, too. After all, everything up to this point has been the coming attractions. With Doo-Wops & Hooligans, he's ready to give listeners the full motion-picture experience.

"I put my heart and soul into any record I do, and I just want them to know I mean what I'm saying. Everything that I write down and perform is coming from me," he smiled. "So I want fans to be like, 'You know what, I want to see the Bruno Mars movie,' and I want them to put on my album, and I want to take them on a journey."

Will you pick up Bruno Mars' debut? Let us know why in the comments!

It seems everyone has "Glee" fever, including onetime 'NSYNC member Lance Bass and "Moulin Rouge" director Baz Luhrmann, who are both making their cases to get involved in the show.

"I love 'Glee.' I think it's great," said Bass, who also recently weighed in on the current season of "Dancing With the Stars." "I did get to see the premiere, which I loved. Maybe they'll have a boy-band episode one day. I have no idea! [They should] go for the gusto. Go for the 'Bye Bye Bye.' "

Fellow 'NSYNC-er Joey Fatone has also been vocal about getting the band's music on the show. "I said, 'You know what? They should do an 'NSYNC one.' So I mentioned it on Twitter, and everyone is retweeting it and saying, 'That would be great!'" he recently told People.com, showing even more enthusiasm after his pal Britney Spears made a cameo. "I love acting and I like to sing. It'd be perfect! Seriously, it's a great show. I'm a fan ... but I think my ass needs to get on that show [and] be a teacher."

It's not just boy-banders wanting to get involved with "Glee." Luhrmann, who is in the process of figuring out his next project, shared his enthusiasm to get behind the cameras and work on the show.

"I'm a great fan of 'Glee.' I spoke to [show creator] Ryan [Murphy]. I tried to find a moment to do an [episode] with him," he shared. "I'd love to do that. I think those kids are phenomenal. If I could, I'd love to [direct an episode]. I'd like to contribute to that, because I do think that is what I hoped when I tried to smash the door 10 years ago [with 'Moulin Rogue']."

Lil Wayne Moved To Solitary Confinement

Lil Wayne has about a month left on his prison stint — he's been locked up on Rikers Island since March on a gun-possession charge — and he recently got into a bit of trouble. Again.

The rapper was found with a pair of headphones and a charger for an MP3 player, and another inmate was said to be hiding the MP3 player, TMZ reports. The rapper has reportedly been placed in solitary confinement for the infraction.

The new report is reminiscent of a similar incident back in May, when the rapper was busted for having a charger, headphones and a watch that doubled as an MP3 player in his jail cell.

For this new trouble, Wayne will have less interaction with inmates and will spend up to 23 hours a day in an isolation cell, TMZ reports. His out-of-cell time is limited to religious services and one hour of recreational time. His phone privileges also have been reduced to just one personal phone call a week.

No word on whether this recent setback will affect his release date, which is tentatively scheduled for November 4. If he still is out that day, the rumor was that the rapper will hold a concert November 5 at New York's Madison Square Garden, where his last performance was before he turned himself in to authorities. But the head of his label, Cash Money Records' Bryan "Baby" Williams, said earlier Monday that while plans for Wayne's post-prison celebration are still being worked out, they'll most likely take place in Miami, not New York.

Nicki Minaj's 'Right Thru Me' Video: Go Behind The Scenes!

If there's one word that's not used all that often to describe anything Nicki Minaj does, it's "understated."

Yes, from her vast collection of neon wigs to her closet full of skintight outfits, Nicki is rarely, if ever, subtle. But in her upcoming video for "Right Thru Me," all of that has changed. Gone are the Kool-Aid accoutrements and Harajuku Barbie getups, replaced instead with a side of the rapper most of her fans have never seen before: a sensitive, softer one.

And that was very much the plan, as Minaj told MTV News when we visited the set of "Right Thru Me" last month in Los Angeles. Because unlike her previous singles, this one gets downright personal.

"The song is [about] just being in awe at another human being's ability to know you so well," she said. "This is going to be different, in that, usually, I'm over the top, but in this one, I'm going to pull back a little bit."

Directed by Diane Martel, "Right Thru Me" follows a demurely dressed Minaj and her love interest as they work through the complexities of a relationship. So don't expect a whole lot of leather catsuits or anime-inspired green-screen wizardry this time out. For once, Minaj is playing it straight.

"Right Thru Me" is the third single from Minaj's ultra-anticipated Pink Friday album, which is due November 23.

What do you think about Nicki dialing things down a notch for the video? Let us know in the comments!

Zack Snyder Reveals 'Superman' Reboot Details

Director says he'll 'finish 'Sucker Punch' and get right to work' on Christopher Nolan's Man of Steel reboot.

Well, well, well, the mumblings about Christopher Nolan having narrowed his "Superman" director candidates to a very short list were indeed true. It was announced Monday (October 4) that "300" and "Watchmen" director Zack Snyder will helm Nolan's reboot of the caped crusader.

MTV News was lucky enough to chat with the man in question for a few minutes to address the big news. "It is pretty awesome," Snyder said. "I'm really excited, and I feel like it's an amazing opportunity."

Regarding his big meeting with "Superman" producers Nolan and Emma Thomas, Snyder said the discussion was more about their love for the character, versus concrete plans for the film's reboot.

"It was really just talking about, in really sort of civilized and fun terms, who [Superman] was to us and what he could be," he explained. "I think that those conversations felt free from the pressure of an 'audition' and felt more just talking about a character that we both liked. It was really, at that point, I was content if I was the one picked or not, that I had had a great visit. From a creative and fan point of view, I was satisfied, and that was cool."

Regarding our questions about the rumored "Man of Steel" title and plot details from David Goyer's script, Snyder responded with a non-answer. "Yeah, they don't know anything," he laughed, giving us the impression that even if he does know something, he can't tell us.

"All I'll say is that those guys — Chris and David — have created an amazing story," he enthused. "The 'Why [remake] Superman?' is definitely being looked at with care, that's all I could hope for as a director.

"Everyone always says, 'Why Superman? Why is he relevant? Who is he now?' " Snyder added. "I think those guys have done an amazing job with that. That's the real trick."

Snyder said he hopes Nolan will be heavily involved in the filmmaking process. "I have a lot of respect for him," he said. "I would think that he would be."

So what villains might we look forward to seeing in his big-screen version? "Yeah, no," he laughed again. "I can't say."

Will he be looking for name actors or unknowns to don that famous cape? "No idea," he said.

All right, we get it. Everything is under wraps until further notice! Snyder, however, did admit that "Superman" will put any other possible projects (i.e., the "300" spin-off "Xerxes") on hold.

"This is what we're doing right now," he said. "We're going to finish 'Sucker Punch' and get right to work on ['Superman']."

And when might production begin? Six months? Six years? "No, not six years, but soon," he said. "Basically, I'm going to start working on it when I'm done with 'Sucker Punch.' "

Deadline first reported the news that Snyder was chosen among a very elite list of candidates, which included Tony Scott, Matt Reeves, Jonathan Liebesman and Duncan Jones. According to Nolan, plans for the Superman reboot originated when he and Goyer were working on the sequel to "The Dark Knight."

"It was the first time I had been able to conceive of how you would address Superman in a modern context," he told Empire magazine in June. "I thought it was a very exciting idea."

What's Next For Justin Timberlake?

What's next for Justin Timberlake?

As box-office analysts predicted, "The Social Network" opened at #1 over the weekend, kicking the movie's awards-season buzz into high gear and setting a slew of new projects at the feet of the film's stars. For Justin Timberlake — he plays Napster founder Sean Parker — the success of the social-networking flick seems to have given him just another reason to sideline his pop-music career in favor of making movies.

Timberlake has been nimbly dodging all of the "When are you making a new record?" questions and he recently told Entertainment Weekly he's not sure when — or if — he'll return to music.

"I never stop making music," he told the magazine. "I don't know what else to tell you, except that I just don't know [in] what capacity I want to be involved anymore."

Film-wise, Timberlake has plenty to keep him busy. First up, post-"Social Network," is "Yogi Bear," to which JT lends his voice in the role of Boo-Boo. When MTV News caught up with the multitalented star, we asked which role has the most Oscar potential: Sean Parker or Boo-Boo.

"I think that's obvious. When you hear my Boo-Boo, it's obvious, that's going to trump everything," Timberlake joked. "I don't think you're going to think of me as a musician again after you hear me as Boo-Boo."

"Yogi" opens December 17, followed in April by the comedy "Bad Teacher," in which JT co-stars along with Cameron Diaz, Jason Segel, Molly Shannon and Thomas Lennon. The rom-com "Friends With Benefits," led by "Easy A" director Will Gluck and co-starring Mila Kunis, Emma Stone and Andy Samberg, opens in July 2011. Timberlake has also reportedly signed on to play a rebellious hero in "I'm.mortal," a sci-fi flick packed with talented young stars, including Amanda Seyfried, Cillian Murphy and Olivia Wilde (who'll play JT's mom).

With so many films in the pipeline, it's no wonder the "Sexy Back" singer hasn't had time for songwriting. Of course, that hasn't stopped him from teasing fans with music-themed guest appearances on "SNL" and "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon".

We think it's safe to assume we haven't seen the last of his lyrical stylings ... at least we hope so.

What do you think of Justin's change in career focus? Do you prefer JT the actor or the pop star?

Waka Flocka Flame Addresses BET Hip-Hop Awards Controversy

It's no secret that Waka Flocka Flame is one of Atlanta's hottest MCs right now. It's also no secret that, following a performance at the BET Hip-Hop Awards taping this past Saturday, Waka cursed Stephen Hill, the channel's executive vice president of entertainment and music programming, during a heated Twitter exchange.

"I THA[N]K BET AS A WHOLE," Waka Flocka wrote. "99% SHOULD I SAY... ITS JUST THAT 1% IS A DUCK ASS N---A."

On Monday (October 4), Waka stopped by to talk about the incident with MTV News.

"I wasn't even upset, honestly," the rapper said about his early departure from the taping. "My label had some stuff set up for me to leave and do some stuff for my album. So I guess by me leaving, everybody was like, 'Oh, he mad.' But I just dipped. I ain't know what was going on."

The taping was reportedly smooth sailing, except for a small snafu with Waka Flocka Flame's performance. The incident led to a war of words on Twitter between the rapper and Hill. Things initially heated up when Hill took to his Twitter account to voice his displeasure over Waka's botched performance.

"The show was going so well... and then Waka Flak-ed," he wrote. "Waka. Flacka. Flamed. Out."

At the heart of Hill's gripe was a change-up in the Atlanta rapper's performance that wasn't planned.

"How the f--- you invite Waka Flocka and hate when I jump N the crowd to connect more wit fans and friends," Waka tweeted. "#rappers R robots lol."

"I KICK ASS I DON'T KISS ASS," he continued.

Hill explained himself further later in an extended tweet. "We had a GREAT look for you. Flames on stage. Great lighting," Hill wrote in an entry that exceeded Twitter's 140-character limit. "My man Jesse (producer) was on it with your look. We'll put the rehearsal on BET.com so folks can see what it was supposed to be. Then you decided to change the track without telling us... and jumping in the audience... without telling us... was disrespect."

After the pair exchanged tweets, Hill eventually offered an olive branch to Waka via Twitter in an effort to calm their war of words. Waka had yet to respond to the BET executive's request publicly, but RapFix hit Atlanta's Club Miami, where the rapper performed late Saturday night and lashed out at Hill's channel. "Fuck BET, n---a," a shirtless Waka screamed into the microphone.

On Monday, however, Georgia's own had a different response.

"Really, I ain't get to dig into it yet, but I'm in New York now, so we can sit down," he said about a possible meeting with Hill. "I know it's cool, though. We're not archenemies or anything. I'm not mad at nothing. I've got an album coming out, I'm happy. ... I'm financially almost straight, so I made BET, I got nominated. That's a blessing. Ain't too many people that can say that."

And is he ready to talk with Hill? "Of course. Why not?" Waka said. "That's the man, the big dog. He paved the way for a lot of people to be seen, so it's like, how could you slap an arm down like that? That would be, like, dumb."

What do you think about Waka and Hill's exchange? Let us know in the comments.

'Transformers 3' Star John Malkovich Calls Michael Bay 'Delightful'

'I found his reputation ... utterly unwarranted,' actor tells MTV News.

Shia LaBeouf gives this advice to an actor working for the first time with fiery director Michael Bay: "You can only do so much. Fight or flight. A tap on the back and a 'Good luck!' "

LaBeouf's "Transformers 3" co-star John Malkovich — himself an intensely focused pro — needed no such well-wishes. Although it might seem like a collaboration between Bay and Malkovich would be ripe for an on-set conflagration, no such thing took place. In fact, the actor offered effusive praise for Bay during a recent interview with MTV News.

"I found Michael delightful," he told us. "I found him fun, filled with ideas, many of them different than the take before, which I'm perfectly used to because that's how I work anyway. I found his reputation, at least in my case, my experience, utterly unwarranted. But what do I know? Maybe he's changed."

Malkovich is no stranger to studio-driven action sets — he starred in "Con Air" and the upcoming "Red" — and noted how stressful it is for a director to manage a massive production with so many moving parts. He compared his role on the film, in which he plays LaBeouf's cruel boss, to that of a relief pitcher in baseball.

"You also have to try and give them some relief from the stress of doing that every day, all day long, 14, 15 hours a day for months," he explained. "I think with all the pre-planning and all the pre-production and all the storyboards and all the meetings, [Bay is] a filmmaker, so the film is really in his head. I think there are two kinds of people, then, who show up to work, whether they be actors or people on the crew: Either you're trying to help him define and communicate what's in his head, or you're not — or you're just there eating craft services."

Bay reciprocated that creative respect and support to his cast, Malkovich said, including first-time actor — and Megan Fox replacement — Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. "I thought he was very good with [Rosie], very patient, very pleasant and helpful," he said. "For her, that's a strain, if you've never done that before."

The Diplomats and ... Dr. Dre?

The Harlem collective is reportedly signing to Interscope Records, home to Dre's Aftermath.

According to Dipset's Juelz Santana and Freekey Zekey, the crew hasn't inked anything yet, with Aftermath or Interscope, but they're excited to have worked with the legendary producer. Jim Jones broke the news of Dipset working with Dre when he tweeted an image of them together in the studio.

"We ain't gonna speak too tough — you seen the pictures," Santana told MTV News. "We were in the studio with the big, big, the biggest homie of all, Dr. Dre. That's it. We were in the studio with Dr. Dre. Dipset, all of us: me, Cam and Jim."

The three rappers recently reunited after years of squabbling. At the 2010 BET Hip-Hop Awards over the weekend, they hit the stage for the first time since their reconciliation. The New York crew is also set to give a concert in their hometown next month sponsored by radio station Hot 97.

As a unit, the Diplomats were once signed to Def Jam, and then independent Koch Records (now E1 Entertainment). Santana was hush about Dipset's plans for their next recording home.

"We'll wait for all of us [to be] together to announce the move we're making," Juelz said. "We were all in the studio, though. Dre was great, awesome. It was a pleasure working with him, pleasure meeting him. Beautiful things are coming."

"Jersey Shore" star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and his "Dancing With the Stars" partner Karina Smirnoff invited MTV's "The Seven" to stop by their rehearsal for Monday night's (October 4) new episode. During the practice, Sorrentino revealed that — contrary to his hard-partying ways on the "Shore" — he's been a homebody lately.

"I really haven't been out that much," he said. "Trying to [stick to] practicing, trying to take it seriously."

Yet in typical Situation form, he addressed rumors about a romance with his partner, placing the blame solely on Smirnoff. "Um, she has a crush on me," he said.

Smirnoff responded with a squeal of dissent and a quick denial. "Aaaah! That is not true!" she insisted. "I think it's wishful thinking."

Sorrentino and Smirnoff then discussed this week's routine, the foxtrot — but an "edgy" version.

"We definitely have an edgy song, which is pretty much the opposite to a slow song," Sorrentino said. "It's a fast song and a slow dance, and we're trying to make it new and fun, and I think we're doing a good job."

"Our costumes are pretty outrageous," he added, hinting that his famous abs might make an appearance. "There's definitely going to be a 'situation' this week."

Sorrentino said his fans should "come out and support us and we should be all right" to move on to the next round,

Speaking of his fans, Sorrentino's "Jersey Shore" castmates have been big supporters of his twinkle toes.

"They called me the first week, saying, 'Good luck, good luck, good luck,' then when they finally saw me do the dance they were like, 'Wow, you've really been trying, you've really been practicing.' They were impressed," he said. "I think they're tuning in to see how I'm doing, and they're supporting me the whole way through."

T.I. Due Back in Court October 15

Rapper to face judge for possible probation violation.
By Gil Kaufman

Photo: Moses Robinson/ WireImage

T.I. may find out soon whether he will be headed back to prison for a possible probation violation in connection with his arrest last month on drug charges in Los Angeles.

According to TMZ, the rapper (born Clifford Harris) will go before Judge Charles Pannell on October 15 to plead for his probation not to be revoked over the arrest. A spokesperson for one of Tip's attorneys, Ed Garland, would not confirm the date, nor would Pannell's office.

When T.I. and wife Tameka "Tiny" Cottle were arrested in Los Angeles on September 1, police originally charged them with possession of a controlled substance — a substance that was later revealed to be Ecstasy. But according to new documents, that might not have been the only drug in their possession. The charges could send T.I. back to prison.

Last month E! Online obtained documents in which T.I.'s probation officer reported that L.A. County Sheriff's deputies also found codeine and marijuana in his possession during the arrest. The documents were filed as part of a summons issued by U.S. District Judge Pannell, requiring T.I. to appear before the court to explain why his probation should not be revoked after the incident. The judge's order lists three possible violations of his probation: possession of Ecstasy, testing positive for opiates and associating with a convicted felon.

"We are very disappointed in Mr. Harris' recent conduct," United States Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said in an e-mail to MTV News on September 17. "We will make our sentencing recommendation at the revocation hearing."

While the drug possession could present a major problem for the rapper — who spent 10 months in prison after his 2007 arrest for illegally attempting to purchase firearms in Atlanta — the terms of his probation in the case included provisions to avoid contact with known felons.

According to reports, T.I. was accompanied by a convicted felon when he was pulled over and arrested in Los Angeles. The felon in question was reportedly Cortez "C-Rod" Thomas, the man who allegedly helped facilitate T.I.'s attempted illegal firearm purchase in October 2007, which led to the MC's prison term. Thomas, according to records, allegedly assisted T.I. by transferring a wealth of cash to the rapper's bodyguard. The bodyguard was later set up by federal officials and agreed to participate in a sting against the Atlanta MC.

Thomas was never charged in the incident, but he is named, and information regarding his past is included in material related to T.I.'s original case. Thomas' rap sheet includes drug charges and claims of physical intimidation; earlier this year, he was convicted on felony drugs and weapon charges and received 15 years' probation.

Linkin Park's 'Waiting For The End' Video: Watch A Preview!

Posted: 04 Oct 2010 01:14 AM PDT

Full clip from A Thousand Suns single premieres Friday.
By James Montgomery

Linkin Park's music video for "Waiting for the End"
Photo: Warner Bros.

Linkin Park's A Thousand Suns is an album full of musical left turns, and perhaps none are as, well, "left turn-y" as "Waiting for the End," a song that's one part soaring, big-boned ballad, one part rattling, slightly Ragga dancehall toast, and zero parts anything LP have previously attempted.

In keeping with the spirit that's guided the band throughout the Thousand Suns cycle, Linkin Park have chosen "End" as the album's second single. And, we've got a sneak peek at the video.

Directed once again by bandmember Joseph Hahn — who did LP's last video, for "The Catalyst," and pretty much every excellent clip they've ever made — "Waiting For The End" conjures up the same murky, mercurial feel as "The Catalyst" clip, only there's an austere beauty to it too. Hahn shoots his LP-mates in somber monochrome, then covers their bodies in grids of interlocking, vaguely astral projections, giving the whole thing an intimate, hand-drawn feel, while, at the same time, building on the band's long-established fascination with all things tech-y and Gundam. (See, A Thousand Suns detractors: They're still the same band!)

It's a look they've obviously been working on for a while now: When LP played in New York last month, most of the visuals projected behind them also meshed man and machine. So, if you like what you're seeing in the "End" video, chances are you're gonna love their upcoming North American tour.

The full "Waiting For The End" video premieres Friday morning on MTV.com, and on MTV that night (at 7:56 p.m. ET, to be precise). But, since we know waiting sucks, have a look at this exclusive 30-second clip right now.

Kanye West has been very generous with the music from his new album, but other than the two singles he's released so far, "Power" and "Runaway," 'Ye hasn't really given us much information on the disc.

We still don't have the album's official title, but Kanye did peel back one layer of his musical onion on Monday (October 4), when he confirmed that he'll be dropping the disc on November 22. Given West's proclivity for doing things his own way — including swathing the "Saturday Night Live" stage in all white sheets on Saturday — the off-cycle Monday release is not surprising.

"L.A. Reid who's doing a great job at Def Jam. We gone Kill it again on November 22nd!!!!!!!!!! Even with the leaks fam," Kanye tweeted on Monday.

With most albums hitting stores on Tuesdays, the one-day jump will also give 'Ye a head start on a rush of holiday albums slated to hit stores that Tuesday, including Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday, Ne-Yo's Libra Scale, My Chemical Romance's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, Flo Rida's The Only One and the "Tron Legacy" soundtrack from Daft Punk.

A spokesperson for West's label could not be reached for confirmation on the album's release date.

After receiving rave reviews for his "SNL" performance, West was feeling the love, doling out props to his whole crew for making it a must-see night. "Saturday night live... The team effort! I couldn't do these things without a team of people with the same goal. To make performance art," he tweeted.

He offered up love to his publicist for "talking me into doing the performance in the first place," his Prague-based choreographer — who helped him with his in-progress film and his VMA performance — as well as his styling team and the whole "SNL" cast.

Lady Gaga Joins 'Inspiration' Yoko Ono Onstage In L.A.

It's typically hard, if not damn-near impossible, to upstage Lady Gaga. But on Saturday night, 77-year-old Yoko Ono did it when she shared the stage with the 24-year-old pop diva during the second show of a two-night stand by Yoko Ono's Plastic Ono Band at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles.

Wearing a black sequined jumpsuit, black studded headband and black leather lace-up platforms, Gaga's stage getup was less modest than Ono's black slacks and shirt topped with a red-banded military-style hat, but the two women found a way to make their styles mesh by night's end.

Ono, widow of late Beatle John Lennon, has become something of a dance star in her sunset years, scoring a string of remix hits on the Billboard dance charts. And the unlikely pair reportedly electrified the stage when they performed together. "For the first time in an evening of poignant, strange and thrilling star turns, Ono seemed slightly disarmed and tickled — like at last she'd again found a collaborator equally capable of making mischief and merry," the Los Angeles Times wrote in a review of the star-studded show. "At the end, they lay in each other's arms, two notorious provocateurs in a surprisingly tender embrace — a pose not unlike that snapped by Annie Leibovitz 30 years ago, when a naked John Lennon cuddled his wife, Ono."

They performed a pair of songs together near the end of Saturday night's show, and Gaga saluted Ono for a being a feminist pioneer who made her global success possible. "Thanks for being so brilliant and such an inspiration to so many women," Gaga said. During the show-ending ramble through Lennon's legendary plea for brotherhood, "Give Peace a Chance," Gaga switched up the lyrics a bit to chant "gays in the military" — a nod to her recent tireless work on behalf of overturning the U.S. military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy — while Wu-Tang Clan's the RZA dropped the line, "No bottom, Lady Gaga, that's bottom for me," a reference to the see-through nature of the backside of Gaga's catsuit.

As the jam came to a close, Gaga and Ono — dubbed "Yoko Gaga" by one excited fan — lay side-by-side on top of a grand piano, with Gaga wailing out her disco diva vocals as Ono performed some of her signature ululating vocalizations.

The two weekend shows also featured performances by Ono's son and bandleader, Sean Lennon, punk icon Iggy Pop, Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon, and RZA. The concerts kicked off a week of special events commemorating what would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday. The ex-Beatle was gunned down in New York in 1980.

A clearly excited Gaga posted a photo with Sean Lennon after the show and tweeted, "WE ARE PLASTIC ONO. I got to sit in as a guest musician tonight, what a legendary band +mother, Yoko.

Former Cash Money cohort B.G. once spit that his crew was like the Army the way the label roster knocked out thundering anthems.

Years later, and with a reworked lineup, Cash Money, along with Lil Wayne's Young Money collective. is just as unstoppable. CM Co-CEO Bryan "Baby" Williams and Young Money President Mack Maine grace the cover of October/November issue of The Source. The two companies — home to Lil Wayne, Drake, Tyga, Nicki Minaj, Bow Wow, DJ Khaled, producers Cool & Dre and more — are recognized in the magazine's annual "Power 30" list.

"I appreciate it, I'm blessed," Mack Maine told MTV News about the honor. "Hopefully, people love it and respect it and see what we're doing in the game. I represent all of them on that cover, it's not just me. So, hopefully, they respect what Young Money and Cash Money have in store."

The cover was unveiled over the weekend as part of the 2010 BET Hip-Hop Awards festivities. Birdman, Mack Maine, Young Money artist Shanell and more were on hand at an event held at Atlanta's W Hotel as The Source's new editor Bonsu Thompson presented them with an oversize replica of the issue, which hits newsstands October 19.

The "Power 30" list has long recognized hip-hop heavyweights, from artists to label executives to music insiders who work behind the scenes; the goal is to rank who has wielded the most influence in the industry during the preceding 12 months. Cash Money/ Young Money came in at #3, while Diddy and Jay-Z rounded out the top three, with Hov at the top spot.

Tyler Clementi, Other Gay Suicide Victims Remembered At New York Vigil

NYU students and local politicians gathered to send message that bullying can kill.

On Sunday evening in New York City's Washington Square Park, students from New York University gathered for a vigil to remember the gay students who have committed suicide over the last few weeks after being bullied for their sexuality. The "You-Are-Loved Glowlight Vigil" (where glow sticks replaced candles), inspired in part by the recent suicide of Tyler Clementi, aimed to promote tolerance.

"It came about last Wednesday. There was a coming-out panel at NYU, which I was serving on, and we spoke about the suicides which have recently happened," event organizer Ryan Rockmore told MTV News. "And I thought of the idea of a vigil and I collaborated with the LBGT office and members of my fraternity to come together to really create this big event."

The event on Sunday evening was also attended by politicians who, like their younger counterparts, hope that with awareness students won't feel the need to take such drastic steps when they feel harassed by their peers.

"We have a situation in the past few weeks that focuses attention on the reality of how rampant bullying is in our society and how fragile young people, particularly LGBT young people, are," openly gay New York Council Speaker Christine Quinn explained. "And we wanted to send a message tonight to people who engage in bullying and harassment: It is dangerous. It is not an act without victims. It is literally something that can kill someone else."

Fellow councilperson Daniel Dromm, who represents Jackson Heights, Queens, said that more open conversation about gay issues would help younger people feel more comfortable about themselves.

"The hardest thing of all to accept is that these young people felt alone, and there's no reason for these young people to feel alone, because if we were to discuss it in schools more often, if we were to be a little bit more open about it, if gay teachers came out, if gay students felt comfortable enough to come out, then maybe things like this wouldn't happen," he said.

Student Erin Ahmed said it's important to teach LGBT youth that there's no reason to be ashamed of who they are. "It's all right to have a voice. I mean, silence is what's really making it so bad," she said. "And I think if everyone just stands up for what they really believe, no matter what it is, and everyone's honest with each other, then I think that that's the first step to fixing the problem."

Lil Wayne's Prison-Release Party Will Be 'Weezy Weekend,' Birdman Says

Early November concert possible, but 'we want to see family first,' Cash Money CEO tells MTV News.

Lil Wayne is set to be released from prison next month, tentatively on November 4, and the expectations for his first days home are growing to Tha Carter III-like hysteria levels.

Rumors have swirled that Wayne will hold a November 5 concert at New York's Madison Square Garden, where he last performed before surrendering to authorities in March.

But the head of his label, Cash Money Records' Bryan "Baby" Williams, said that while plans for Wayne's post-prison celebrations are still being worked out, they'll most likely take place in Miami, not New York.

"We still haven't really made up our mind," Birdman told MTV News. "I think what's important, we want to see family first. If the concert happens, it happens. But right now, we just want to come home and see our family and party, I think. That's what we gonna do: just come to Miami, and just party for a minute. Work and party and play. Have the whole team out here, and we gonna do it up. Miami is gonna be Weezy world. Weezy weekend."

Wayne began his sentence earlier this year after reaching a deal with the Manhattan District Attorney's Office to plead guilty to attempted gun possession. The deal helped the rapper avoid a lengthy sentence. Under the terms of his deal, a judge sentenced Wayne to one year of incarceration.

At this weekend's 2010 BET Hip-Hop Awards, Wayne's ex-wife, Toya Carter, said the rapper's children are excited for his return, which is about a month away.

"It's very exciting," Carter told MTV News, smiling. "Especially when you have a little girl that's anticipating his return. We're looking forward to that."

Is 'Social Network' Headed For Oscar Glory?

Posted: 04 Oct 2010 12:18 AM PDT

'When a film is this well received across the board — audiences and critics — it goes a long way with Oscar voters,' one expert says.

Three weeks in a row, the box office has been very kind to dramas. First, Ben Affleck's thriller, "The Town," followed through on its film-festival hype and scored a $23.8 million opening, solidifying its Oscar chances. Then came "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps," without much hope for Oscar glory but with $19 million in box-office business. This past weekend, "The Social Network" kept the #1 drama streak alive with a $23 million opening.

Yet some box-office prognosticators suggested the film could open as high as $30 million. So what happened? And is the film about Facebook's founding still a strong contender come awards season?

"MySpace, this is not," said Jeff Bock, box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations. " 'Social Network' has longevity written all over it. 'The Town' has received overwhelming critical acclaim, and from weekend to weekend, it is showing its mighty legs, and 'The Social Network' will follow a similar trajectory, dropping minimally week in and week out. And when a film is this well received across the board — audiences and critics — it goes a long way with Oscar voters."

In fact, those voters sat down over the weekend for a screening at the Academy's headquarters in Beverly Hills, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, the audience's reaction was overwhelmingly positive. The film's critical buzz and already-robust box-office business surely influenced those reactions.

"Strong grosses serve to validate the buzz that has been generated by critics," said Phil Contrino, editor of BoxOffice.com. "If a film can combine glowing reviews with strong receipts, then it makes it much more difficult for the Academy to ignore it."

But why didn't "The Social Network" cross the $30 million mark, as some had predicted? The film was the beneficiary of nearly blanket media coverage and an aggressive marketing campaign and told a story directly connected to the current day's pop-culture conversation. What's more, even a film like "21" — likewise telling a story about hyper-intelligent college students and their brainy shenanigans, but hardly being critically lauded — grossed $24.1 million in 2008.

Gitesh Pandya of Box Office Guru points out that "Social Network," unlike "21" and even "The Town," did not have the benefit of A-listers in the cast. Plus, it had to compete with "Town" and "Wall Street." Steven Zeitchik of the Los Angeles Times, meanwhile, speculates that the film's geographical performance — strong on the coasts, less so in Middle America — suffered from "a perception of the film as a story of a group of real-life rich Harvard kids fighting over credit."

Regardless of the reasons "Social Network" came out of the weekend on the low end of its box-office predictions, there's no doubting the drama's very solid opening. The film could well battle for a Best Picture nomination, a writing nod for Aaron Sorkin and directing recognition for David Fincher, who is no stranger to Academy voters. Stars Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and Armie Hammer have all been mentioned for possible acting nominations.

"It just has to keep the momentum up between now and Oscar time, which is a long journey," Pandya said. "The Oscar season is still young and anything could happen. Fifty-two weeks ago, nobody thought 'The Blind Side' had any shot at a Best Picture nomination."
