The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive

It was spring 1998. DMX was the hottest cat in hip-hop and released his SoundScan-murdering debut LP It's Dark and Hell Is Hot. That winter, X came right back with another scorcher, Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood.

OK, speed up 12 years. We all know about Drake's popularity. His debut, Thank Me Later, came out this past spring, and believe it or not, it's not out of the realm of possibility that Drizzy could come right back with another album just in time for Christmas.

"Drake's crazy," Young Money president Mack Maine told MTV News last week. "He's doing a mixtape right now. He called me one night, like 2 in the morning. He has the intro done for the new album. We was discussing dates where he should come back. That'll be soon. And this mixtape, he's gonna put that out quick. His formula is crazy. He works fast. I can't give the secret away to the formula. He's a musical genius. The way he and [producer] 40 put things together is crazy."

When we asked Mack if Drake was putting out another LP before next summer, he simply said, "Real possible! What we discussed, definitely, what me and him discussed."

Such a quick turnaround between Thank Me Later and its follow-up is a simple case of supply and demand.

"It makes sense," Mack said. "Like DMX and those guys [at Def Jam]. They dropped two in one year. I think 50 [Cent] did two in one year. If it wasn't a year, it was right around that time. [Drake's] hot like that. Why not? Give them what they want."

When asked if Drizzy would have an album in the marketplace in time for it to be a stocking stuffer around the holidays, Mack Mizzle smiled and advised us to "expect the unexpected."

Regardless of when the new LP comes out, all signs point toward Drake's R&B mixtape, It's Never Enough, to come this year. There has been a smattering of Drake records popping up randomly on the Internet recently, such as "What If I Kissed You."

Justin Bieber Vs. Jonas Brothers Hair-Off: 'Camp Rock 2' Stars Vote

'Well, there are three Jonas Brothers versus one Bieber ...,' co-star Chloe Bridges reasons.

Demi Lovato told us recently that the littlest Jonas brother, Frankie, has swag like Justin Bieber. And as it turns out, the elder Jonas Brothers, namely Joe, Kevin and Nick, and Justin Bieber are all known for something they have in common, and we're not talking about their bustling careers. We're referring to their incredibly famous and all-important heads of hair. While Bieber is known for his signature swoop, the brothers Jonas are recognized for their curly mops.

This fascinating paralell raised a question: Who has better hair, the Jonas Brothers or Justin Bieber? Their "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam" co-stars weighed in on this battle for the ages.

"I'm friends with the Jonas Brothers [and] I do have to see them later on, but I know that Bieber has this whole thingy, the swoop thingy," Jasmine Richards pondered. "I'm gonna have to say Jonas Brothers only 'cause their hair's great. ... But Bieber ... can I be in the middle?"

Nick Jonas' "Camp Rock 2" love interest, Chloe Bridges, compared the decision-making process on this issue to choosing a favorite summer sweet. "Well, there are three Jonas Brothers versus one Bieber. So I don't know," she explained. "They might win, however, they both have good hair. It's hard to say. It's like vanilla versus chocolate — do you like the straight or the wavy? It's like ice cream flavors."

Anna Maria Perez de Tagle seemed to have the decision locked: "Oh, the Jonases, for sure! I mean, they all have different hairstyles, which is awesome," she said. "Justin Bieber has the one hairstyle. For sure, the brothers!"

Who do you think has better hair, Justin Bieber or the Jonas Brothers? Tell us in the comments!

'Dancing With The Stars' Season 11 Lineup Revealed

MTV stars Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino and Audrina Patridge are in the mix.
By Kara Warner

It's that time of the year again: ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" casting announcement is here! The rumors have been circulating, guesses made and, finally, the official list is here.

As usual, the new crop of celebrity dancers is a band of merry misfits. But we here at MTV News can't help but smile that two of the newest castmembers are, in a sense, homegrown:

Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino
Something tells us this "Jersey Shore" breakout star isn't going to have a problem showing off a little chest on "DWTS." The self-proclaimed guido has already made an impression on reality-TV fans with his one-liners and manscaped abs; now he can put all the time he spent fist-pumping in Seaside Heights nightclubs to good use on the dance floor.

Audrina Patridge
The brunet starlet made her Hollywood debut on MTV's "The Hills" as Heidi and Lauren's aspiring-model neighbor. Patridge has since pursued an acting career, scoring parts in "Sorority Row" and "Into the Blue 2." With "The Hills" signing off this past July, the California girl is ready to show off her fancy footwork on a new reality show.

Brandy
Once known primarily as the spunky and sweet teen singer of "Sittin' Up in My Room" and "I Wanna Be Down" and the star of the sitcom "Moesha," Brandy Norwood is back on television with her brother Ray J in the VH1 reality show "Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business." Norwood was also rumored to be dating rapper Flo Rida in the spring.

Bristol Palin
By now she is no stranger to the spotlight. First thrust into the public eye via her mom's VP candidacy with John McCain in 2008, Bristol Palin was just 17 when it was announced she was pregnant and engaged to her child's father, Levi Johnston. Palin currently juggles the duties of a single mom with public speaking, advocating abstinence to teens. She also appeared as herself on an episode of "The Secret Life of an American Teenager." Her relationship with Johnston has been the epitome of on-again, off-again (they are currently "off").

Jennifer Grey
We can hear the "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" quotes now. Die-hard fans of the beloved "Dirty Dancing" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" actress are likely clamoring to get tickets to see Grey step back into her dancing shoes — surely she'll dance to "Time of My Life" (the classic "Dancing" number), right? In recent years, Grey has appeared on TV and in film, often guest-starring as herself.

David Hasselhoff
Hasselhoff — a.k.a. "The Hoff" — is no stranger to reality television, having just ended his stint as a judge on "America's Got Talent." Hasselhoff first rose to fame on the '80s TV hit "Knight Rider," then as forever-tan lifeguard Mitch Buchannon on "Baywatch." He also enjoyed a brief career as a pop star in Germany, with two #1 hits on the German pop charts. Plus, he knows how to ham it up and take criticism — just check out his "Comedy Central Roast."

Florence Henderson
The spunky 76-year-old is best known for playing the matriarch on "The Brady Show" in the late '60s and early '70s, but she hasn't been a stranger over the past few decades, appearing on "The Surreal Life" in 2006 and even guest-hosting "WWE Monday Night Raw." Hopefully she'll fare a little better than previous AARP-eligible contestants (see: Cloris Leachman, Buzz Aldrin).

Margaret Cho
The racy comedian first made an impression with her 1994 sitcom "All American Girl," which only lasted one season. Since then, she has written several books and found success on the road with her stand-up act. She also scored her own reality show in 2008: VH1's "The Cho Show." Let's see if her entertaining comedy routine can translate into "DWTS" success.

Kurt Warner
One of two former pro athletes in the cast, Warner is a much-loved (for both his work on the football field and off) former NFL quarterback. Warner played 12 seasons for three different teams: the St. Louis Rams (with whom he helped win the Super Bowl and MVP in 2000), New York Giants and the Arizona Cardinals. Warner holds several NFL records, including the three highest single-game passing yardage totals in Super Bowl history.

Michael Bolton
Anyone listening to top 40 radio in the '90s grew to either love or hate Bolton's chart-toppers "When a Man Loves a Woman" and "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You." Combined with his signature (and sultry) tenor voice and his formerly flowing locks, Bolton was a force to be reckoned with. The balladeer has been in the news recently after word got out that he and Lady Gaga were working together on his upcoming album, One World One Love, due in September.

Rick Fox
Many former pro athletes have found success on the show (Apolo Ohno, Kristi Yamaguchi, Emmett Smith, etc.), so the addition of the former NBA player — he played for the Celtics and the Lakers — is not too much of a surprise. Fox is also well-known for being Vanessa Williams' ex-husband and a sometimes actor with bit parts in TV and film.

Kyle Massey
Perhaps due to the success and popularity of their last Disney kid, "Hannah Montana" actor Cody Linley, ABC added "That's So Raven" and "Cory in the House" star Kyle Massey to the roster. The plucky 19-year-old — who is also a rapper — is the cast's youngest member. Perhaps he'll wow the audience with his dance moves and lyrical stylings.

Are you looking forward to the new season of "Dancing With the Stars"? Let us know in the comments below!

'Secretariat' Puts Audience In The Horse Races, Director Says

Posted: 31 Aug 2010 03:50 AM PDT

'I wanted the audience to experience the races as participants, not as spectators,' Randall Wallace tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner

The fall-movie season is shaping up to be chock-full of Oscar bait, and Disney's "Secretariat" is no exception. Based on a true story, the film revolves around Penny Chenery (played by Diane Lane), the woman ultimately responsible for fostering the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years. It's a feel-good film for sure, but it's designed to make audiences weepy.

When we caught up with director Randall Wallace ("We Were Soldiers," "The Man in the Iron Mask") he admitted to being "an emotional critter" and wanting audiences to connect with the characters and feel something when they see the film. Translation: Bring tissues to the theater.

MTV: This is a different type of film for you. Why did the story of Secretariat speak to you?

Randall Wallace: It was funny for me, because I've never worked on something that wasn't an original screenplay for me that I hadn't started in some form or fashion, but everything else I had done involved war. [In addition to the previous two films he directed, Wallace wrote "Braveheart" and "Pearl Harbor."] People ask why I make war stories. I say, "I don't. I make love stories. It's just that war puts love in the context." It shows its depth and extent of the commitment you have to it. With this story, its call to me was that it showed a face and hope and courage as an affirmation that led not just to suffering and pain, but to victory and joy, and that was really compelling for me about this.

MTV: How challenging is it working with horses?

Wallace: It's extremely challenging, particularly because these are animals who could kill you and animals who could hurt themselves if you weren't extremely thoughtful about them. My first job out of college was, I worked with live animals. I would come from seminary at Duke University to working at a place called Opryland in Nashville. My first job, I was a manager of an animal show where barnyard animals were trained to play musical instruments. We had a pig named Pigerace and a duck named Burt Bachquack; that was my first gig. I came full-circle getting to work with thoroughbreds on this. What you find is that they have personalities and instincts of their own, and they're not unlike actors at their best. Diane Lane and John Malkovich are thoroughbreds, and they have enormous capacity. You work with people like that to find that fire and that passion.

MTV: Who in the cast was your "horse whisperer" and really took to the horses?

Wallace: John Malkovich has an amazing affection for horses. John had actually worked with one of the horses that we used — not one of our Secretariats, but one of our background horses. John would actually tell stories about what the horse was thinking and doing, and he would mimic the horse. That not only entertained us all, but it also inspired us. Leadership spreads through a whole organization, and John certainly had it in that way. Diane's commitment to become as fully immersed with those horses as Penny Chenery, the woman she was playing, had been with Secretariat is absolute. You can see it when you see the film. There are moments when she is looking into the eyes of the horse, and it's amazing what you see both in the human eyes and the horse's eyes.

MTV: We've seen movies about horses — specifically racehorses — before. What makes "Secretariat" different?

Wallace: Here's what's different about "Secretariat": The cornerstone of my approach, the first step in directing this movie visually for me, is I wanted the audience to experience the races as participants, not as spectators. Every other horse-racing move I've ever seen was one that celebrated the slow and elegant beauty of horse racing, but not its kinetic excitement, none of its danger and savagery. We had cameras skimming an inch along the ground right at the horses' hooves, with the dirt flying in the faces of the audience like its flying in the faces of the jockeys. We used real jockeys, unlike some other movies. I happen to love "Seabiscuit." I thought it was a wonderful movie. This movie is vastly more kinetic. In "Seabiscuit," you had a great actor whom you were totally prevented from putting on the horse. I hired real jockeys at every point so that the man playing Ronnie Turcotte was on the back of the horse going 38 miles an hour in heavy traffic and risking his life, so that's one big difference.

Another is, let's face it, I'm an emotional critter. I'm looking for the soaring heart of something. I wanted to know what it was like when Penny faced her moment of greatest isolation and uncertainty and how she responded — her moments of sorrow and her moments of greatest joy. And I wanted the audience to participate too, and not just sit back and watch it. That's a problem with our society: It's been all too easy for us to become spectators in life, and I want to be a participant and I want the audience to share that too.

From the saucy Jessica Alba in "Little Fockers" to James Franco's grueling journey in "127 Hours," the MTV Movies team is delving into the hottest flicks of fall 2010. Check back daily for exclusive clips, photos and interviews with the films' biggest stars.

Lauryn Hill Explains Updating Her Classics At Rock The Bells

'I have to upgrade them a bit so that they're still exciting and fresh and they're new,' she tells MTV News.
By Shaheem Reid

Of her four Rock the Bells Tour stops, Lauryn Hill hasn't had one show exactly like any of the others.

On Saturday in New York, she brought a host of celebs onstage — including Jay-Z and Beyoncé — and on Sunday, at the closer in Washington, D.C., Nas was her guest. The two performed Esco's classic "If I Ruled the World."

As for Hill's own classics from The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and the Fugees' The Score, she constantly changed up the arrangements for the records. The legendary songstress said she needed to be free.

"There's been such a long period of time where I haven't been able to communicate where my mind is, where my consciousness is, where my ideas are," she told MTV News on Saturday. "I have to upgrade them a bit so that they're still exciting and fresh and they're new. There's something almost jazz-like the way I approach performances. I'm not sure if the audience really understands. We need, or at least I need, a certain amount of spontaneity, a certain amount of improvisation every show. I might have gotten spoiled from the Fugee days. We used to improvise a lot. It kept it so fresh and exciting. I need that. I need that improvisational, almost jazz-like improvisational dynamic when I'm onstage. It keeps it so exciting. It's that unknown, that literal X factor that makes every show something different — something unique and something I want to continue to do."

Hill said that's just where she is as an artist right now. "That's the type of mind that I have, the type of spirit I have," she said. "I need that new energy."

For the outing, Hill said it was incredible to find musicians who are fearless.

"This is an athletic discipline," she described. "You gotta be in shape to do it mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically. But it's time. We're excited about what the future holds."

T.I. Salutes Fans For Making 'Takers' #1

Posted: 30 Aug 2010 03:20 AM PDT

'I appreciate the people for showing up and judging for themselves,' he tells MTV News.
By Shaheem Reid

While early estimates had "The Last Exorcism" edging out "Takers" at the box office this weekend, T.I. says not so fast. According to a recalculated tally on BoxOfficeMojo.com, his heist film, also starring Idris Elba and Chris Brown, came out on top, grossing $20.5 million vs. the horror movie's $20.3 million.

"It was so tight, they kinda misinformed people prematurely and gave out the wrong information," Tip said about the initial numbers. "But officially, as it stands right now, 'Takers' is the #1 movie in the country, contrary to popular belief. In my heart, I felt it would be.

"Its kinda like the Obama election," Tip continued. "Not at all as important, but you felt like it was supposed to happen ... unless it was some bullsh-- in the game, it would likely happen. I'm not in any way trying to compare the magnitude of importance [of the presidential election] to this [box-office] situation, but I'm just trying to somewhat rate my anticipation. Thanks to everyone that supported. Critics were very quick to sign up and criticize the film. I appreciate the people for showing up and judging for themselves. And tweeting and putting out the word of mouth that this really was a good film."

Tip did more than his share to promote the film this weekend. On Friday, he was in Atlanta treating his hometown fans to the flick, and then he headed to the Midwest on Sunday to do the same.

"All weekend I been out," he said. "If I went and the line was packed, I bought all the tickets. Everybody inside who had already bought the tickets, I bought the concessions — popcorn, candy, slushees, sodas. I did that in Atlanta on Friday and Saturday. Sunday, I was in Mount Pleasant [Michigan] with [Ludacris for a concert]. ... I went before the concert and took pictures and signed autographs for everyone who bought tickets. And after the show, I went in after the movie theater had closed. They remained open so they could show the film, man. At 11:30 or 11:55. That allowed us to have two more sold-out shows. I appreciate all the people who supported. It was really the energy. The energy surrounding the project was unmatched.

"We were in less theaters, we were in smaller theaters [than 'The Last Exorcism']," Tip said about the obstacles for "Takers." "They were in theaters that held 350 and 400. We were in theaters that held 150 and 185, 225. We had a stronger per-screen average, which means all of the screens that we were viewed on and showed on, we had more sold-out shows than they did. It was more people in line for 'Takers' than it was for that movie. It didn't matter how many more screens than us they were on. It kept it close, but they couldn't bring out the victory, simply because the people demanded it. The quality of ['Takers'] spoke volumes of what the people wanted to have in the #1 slot."

After the film's successful debut weekend, Tip was on the phone Monday morning (August 30) with the filmmakers about getting a "Takers" prequel greenlit. Musically, he's dropping a song in the next few days called "I Pledge Allegiance to the Swag."

'True Blood' Stars Call Getting Naked 'Another Day At The Office'

HBO co-stars Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alexander Skarsgård appear nude, bloody on cover of Rolling Stone.

With shows like "Mad Men," "Breaking Bad," "Dexter" and "True Blood" earning prized nods at the 2010 Emmy Awards, it's clear that the cable channels are reaping the rewards of their original programming. And those programming choices often involve pushing the envelope with edgy, provocative subjects and story lines. And these days, HBO's "True Blood" is the epitome of provocative TV.

The show is not only a bloody good time, but its daring themes and attractive cast are bleeding into pop culture (cheesy pun intended!). Case in point: Stars Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alexander Skarsgård appear naked on a recent Rolling Stone cover. When MTV News spoke with the cast at HBO's Emmy party on Sunday, we asked their thoughts on the saucy photos, as well as who might next be naked on a magazine cover.

"I just saw the naked Rolling Stone cover with our beautiful castmates," admitted co-star Jim Parrack a.k.a. lovable Hoyt Fortenberry. "But it's like another day at the office, we're used to seeing that."

Nelsan Ellis, who plays Lafayette Reynolds, told MTV News he found the cover shot just plain sexy: "It's gruesome and sexy. Naked people with blood on them — only on 'True Blood.' "

Lindsey Haun, who plays Sookie's cousin Hadley, agreed with the "sexy" description, but also had a bit of artistic analysis to offer. "They looked sooo good with that blood all over them! Sexy, although Alex was making kind of a surprised face," she said. "It was funny. Stephen and Anna were totally sultry, but Alex, I felt like he should have been in the Sex Pistols with the look on his face."

Newly named series regular Joe Manganiello — coincidentally, the actor currently graces another magazine cover in a semi-dressed state — echoed Parrack's sentiments about baring some skin.

"Oh, that's just a typical day at the office for us," Manganiello said. "That's just how we all go out and earn a living, really."

Fan favorite Kristin Bauer a.k.a. Pam De Beaufort said she might be ready for her own scantily clad close-up — after a cocktail or two. "When's my turn? It might be in an hour or so if there's free booze," she joked. "I might just have to take matters into my own hands."

Meanwhile, Marshall Allman (Sam's brother Tommy) revealed that there's a bonus photo that some readers might have missed.

"Did you get the one with the foldout?" he asked. "I'm on there, but I'm like [bends over and sticks his rear out, smiling]. You didn't get that one? I guess it was a limited edition," he joked.

We let Paquin have the last word on the subject: "Everyone should get naked!"

Ice Cube Explains Dr. Dre's I Am The West Absence

Posted: 30 Aug 2010 04:44 AM PDT

'I don't feel bad, because Snoop can't find him either,' Cube laughs.
By Jayson Rodriguez

NEW YORK — Ice Cube might rep the West on his new album, appropriately titled I Am the West, but the legendary Left Coast rapper is missing one important link: Dr. Dre.

The former N.W.A groupmates weren't able to connect on Cube's project, slated for release independently September 21. Ice Cube said his and Dre's schedules weren't able to align.

"I didn't get a chance to work with Dre on this record," Cube told MTV News from Skyline Studios in Manhattan, where he previewed his album for press. "He's been M.I.A. for two to three months now. But I don't feel bad, because Snoop can't find him either," he laughed. "I think, really, it's because people expect so much from him," he continued. "People expect, when Dre does a record, it [will] change the trajectory of music. Not just be an album and it come out and be good. It has to come and take us in a different direction. And that's a lot of pressure."

Cube was able to recruit a stable of upstart producers and chart-toppers like Bangladesh (Lil Wayne, Beyoncé, Kelis) to work on I Am the West. The project pays homage to the classic gangsta-rap movement Cube helped shape. But records like "She Couldn't Make It on Her Own" (featuring the rapper's two sons), "Soul on Ice" and "It Is What It Is" display a range beyond Cube's California roots. The first single, "I Rep That West," was serviced to radio and features a clip directed by Gabriel Hart (Young Jeezy, Plies, B.o.B).

I Am the West track list, according to Ice Cube's management:

» "A Boy Was Conceived"
» "Soul on Ice"
» "Live in California" (featuring Jayo Felony and WC)
» "She Couldn't Make It on Her Own" (featuring OMG and Dough Boy)
» "Urbanian"
» "Y'All Know How I Am" (featuring OMG, WC, Dough Boy and Maylay)
» "Too West Coast" (featuring WC and Maylay)
» "I Rep That West"
» "Drink the Kool-Aid"
» "No Country for Young Me"
» "It Is What It Is"
» "Hood Robbin' "
» "Your Money or Your Life"
» "Nothin' Like L.A."
» "All Day, Everyday"
» "Fat Cat"

Kanye West Drops Justin Bieber 'Runaway Love' Remix

On Kanye West's re-engineered vision of Justin Bieber's "Runaway Love," which arrived online Monday (August 30), 'Ye and Raekwon take turns trading Wu-homage rhymes in between the teen's vocals.

West sampled the Wu-Tang Clan's 1993 breakout smash "Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing Ta F--- Wit" for the number. In his verse, Kanye pays homage to Raekwon's standout verse on Jodeci's "Freek'N You" remix, among other nods to the Staten Island collective. The veteran Wu lyricist also gives a nod to that same verse.

"Yo, 'Ye, what up," Rae spits, opening the track like he did on the Jodeci hit. "You got stacks like the International House of Pancakes/ All alone, ready to phone me and your hand shakes/ Palms is wetted, don's regret/ Never to walk miles for love, I sit in the starter's deck."

"Last name West, and my teeth diamonds," West rapped. "She said, 'Yo, what's your occupation: crazy rhyming?' "

Bieber's vocals are the same as on the original. Raekwon anchors the song with two verses, and Kanye has one verse on the track.

Raekwon spoke to MTV News earlier this month and revealed that only he and West joined forces in the studio for the track. The wordsmith made no mention of Bieber among the celebrities who were present during the session at New York's Electric Lady Studios.

"Kanye was just being Kanye," Rae said. "He was definitely excited. The energy in the room was already speaking for itself. It was time to get up and have fun on the track together. We was drinking, laughing, being normal cats. At the same time, we had a houseful of celebrities in the house as well. [Kanye] was moving through the facility, checking out the studios he had. He had three studios in there.

"You had Akon in the building. Mos Def was just chillin'. Mos is a good friend of 'Ye's," Rae added. "You had Charlie Wilson, the legendary cat from the Gap Band. Chris Rock walked in. These are guys that really respect who 'Ye is. 'Ye's energy is cool. He's a normal cat. A normal Chicago/world cat. Very mature. Having a great time."

The record came together after Kanye West and Justin Bieber talked to each other via Twitter. "Listening to @JustinBieber 'Run Away love,' " West wrote "I love Sunday mornings in the crib."

Bieber responded and the two traded messages about their mutual admiration.

West then added Raekwon in the mix. The producer revealed that the Wu-Tang Clan star performed on one of his favorite remixes of all time, Jodeci's "Freek'N You" redux.

"Maybe me and Rae should hop on Runaway Love! FLEX would drop bombs," West wrote on Twitter, referring to Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex's method for showing his approval of records.

Paris Hilton Charged With Felony Cocaine Possession

Socialite could get anywhere from probation to four years in prison.
By Gil Kaufman

Paris Hilton's arrest on Friday in Las Vegas could land the socialite in jail again. The reality star was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance after police alleged that they found .8 grams of cocaine in her purse during a search following Friday's incident, Radar Online reports. The charges could land Hilton anything from probation to four years in prison; she could also face a $5,000 fine.

Jillian Prieto, public information officer for the Clark County courts, confirmed that Hilton is due back in Vegas for an arraignment in the case on October 27.

TMZ reported that unnamed friends of Hilton's said the hotel heiress and nightlife regular is wavering a bit from her initial "it wasn't my purse" story, explaining that Paris claims a friend recently borrowed the purse and "probably" left the illicit drug inside it. Hilton allegedly said the friend returned the bag but that she never bothered to check the contents before using it herself.

The friend said Hilton explained that she was eating sushi at the Wynn resort with boyfriend Cy Waits when she got tired and Waits offered to drive her home before returning to his gig as a nightclub boss at the Wynn. "It could be a setup," Hilton is reportedly telling friends. "Everyone knows how against cocaine I am."

Hilton was pinched after police stopped Waits' Cadillac Escalade when they smelled "the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle," according to the police report in the incident. When one of the officers recognized the passenger as Hilton, he said she immediately tried to roll up her window. When police stopped the car and a crowd began to gather, Hilton told the officers she was "extremely embarrassed" and asked if she could use the bathroom at the Wynn and go inside to "prevent her from being molested by the growing crowd and also asked to go somewhere private and out of the public's eye until the investigation was over."

A Radar Online story claimed Hilton could be off the hook because police allegedly failed to check her purse at the scene and instead didn't do so until she was inside the Wynn, which her lawyers could argue was an illegal search. The police report confirms that an officer escorted Hilton into the hotel to the Wynn security holding room while they waited for a female officer to take her to the restroom. Inside the Wynn, Paris asked if she could take some lip balm out of her purse, and when the officer handed it to her, he claimed in the report, "As she began, I saw a small bindle of what I believed to be cocaine in a clear baggie begin to fall from the purse and into my hand."

Also found in the purse: a broken tablet of Albuterol — a prescription drug commonly used to treat asthma and wheezing — as well as Zig Zag rolling papers. Hilton copped to the Albuterol but said the cocaine was not hers and that the purse did not belong to her and that she'd borrowed it from a friend. When questioned by the police about the cocaine, she allegedly said "she had not seen it but now thought it was gum." Also inside the purse were $1,300 in cash and some of Hilton's credit cards.

Reported boyfriend Waits failed a field sobriety test, according to the police report, and was also arrested in the incident and charged with driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol.

The heiress had another run-in with the law over alleged drug possession earlier this summer when she was detained in South Africa at the World Cup for marijuana possession. But the case against Hilton was later dropped after officials learned that someone else in her group was smoking. Hilton has a history of getting in trouble for possessing substances and hitting the road, including a 23-day jail sentence in 2007 for violating probation stemming from a 2006 DUI bust.

Slash has filed for divorce from his wife of nearly nine years, according to TMZ.

In documents filed Monday (August 30) in Los Angeles Superior Court, Slash (real name: Saul Hudson) cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for his split with wife Perla Ferrar. The couple, who were married in October 2001, have two boys, age 6 and 8, and Slash is asking for joint physical and legal custody.

TMZ reports that, according to the documents, Slash listed the date of separation as July 15, 2010, and is willing to pay Ferrar spousal support. But, the site adds, sources close to the couple say "the breakup is extremely acrimonious."

The couple also reportedly did not sign a prenuptial agreement.

Messages left with Slash's attorney, Laura Wasser — who has handled dissolutions for a list of high-profile clients, like Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie and Kiefer Sutherland — seeking comment were not returned by press time. E-mails to Slash's rep were also unanswered.

In March, Slash released his first proper solo album, which featured appearances from three of the members of Appetite for Destruction-era Guns N' Roses (Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler), in addition to cameos by Fergie, Ozzy Osbourne, Chris Cornell, Lemmy and Dave Grohl. The album debuted at #3 on the Billboard albums chart, selling more than 60,000 copies. This past weekend, he was honored at the third-annual Sunset Strip Music Festival in West Hollywood, California, where he also performed.

Sandra Bullock sat down with Matt Lauer for her first television interview since her divorce from Jesse James, airing on the "Today" show on Tuesday. In it, she opens up about her adopted son, Louis, and what he means to the entire Bullock family.

"We don't have any boys in our family. Boy, is everyone really happy about that. So, he's like the crown prince. You know, it's nothing but girls in our family," Bullock said about her baby, whom she called her "little Cajun cookie," in an excerpt on the show's Scoop blog. "I mean, my cousin in Germany has one son. No boys — can you imagine how miserable our father is? I mean, every pet was female. But it was just the hierarchy that needed to be broken."

Bullock also talked about how she was able to keep the adoption a secret from the media, crediting the people around her as having "massive amounts of integrity."

"Human beings exist that have integrity, that know how to keep their mouth shut. That know the bigger picture, that don't sell out their friends," Bullock explained. "Those people are all over the place. But again, we don't like to talk about it, because it doesn't sell a magazine. But I was blessed with the same friends I've had since before things got really special for me and blessed in life.

"I did not circumvent," Bullock explained further about the adoption. "I wanted to do everything exactly the same way everyone else did. And it was. He was always mine, you know. It wasn't like I felt like someone was going to take him away. But it was nice to have someone say, 'I think you're a fit parent.' ... I think everything works out the way the universe wants it to work out."

The Oscar-winner sat down with Lauer in New Orleans, where she helped to raise funds for a new health clinic on the campus of the Warren Easton Charter High School. "They did it with such power and love and integrity. Integrity. There's so much integrity here. And I've never been around that much integrity," Bullock said about the victims of Hurricane Katrina since the area in and around New Orleans was devastated by the natural disaster five years ago.

The man behind the Ready Set, Jordan Witzigreuter, released his debut album, I'm Alive, I'm Dreaming, earlier this summer, and while the LP doesn't have any featured guests, the musician says he's very much open to collaborating on his blend of pop, funk, techno and hip-hop.

"I'd kind of like to collaborate with, honestly, anybody!" the Ready Set recently told MTV News. "I'm thinking to try and collaborate with some hip-hop artists, do something with Drake or Kanye West, whoever's down to! Definitely into remixes and stuff."

Given today's musical climate, where artists often drop other musical genres into their own personal song sauces, the Ready Set said the timing is perfect for experimentation.

"I feel like nobody wants to buy an album that's 12 songs [of] the same thing," he said. For I'm Alive, he ensured he wouldn't have a homogeneous sound by working with a range of producers, including J. R. Rotem (Rihanna, Leona Lewis, Plies). The result, he explained, are tracks that are fun to play for his fans.

"It's cool. It's always exciting getting to play new songs," he said. "It's cool to see people starting to sing along. It's good seeing people enjoy those songs because I obviously enjoyed writing them. ... I've been working at something happening for like the past three years, [so] it's cool now to see a glimpse of things taking off a little bit. The shows have been getting better and better. It's really cool."

What do you think of the Ready Set? Would you like to see him nab a Drake or Kanye collabo? Let us know in the comments!

2AM Club Hook Up With Kanye West Producer No ID For Debut

This September, L.A. outfit 2AM Club will release their debut studio album, What Did You Think Was Going To Happen? and for it, the guys hit the studio with a number of top-grade producers including former Talking Heads member Jerry Harrison and hip-hop producer No ID, who they say helped shape one "ridiculous" track for their album.

"The beginning of the No ID collaboration is he had a track [and] we did our album with an A&R guy named Peter Edge, who worked with Alicia keys and D'Angelo and has done a bunch of amazing records over the last few years," 2 AM-er Tyler Cordy explained to MTV News. "And we just heard it one day and it was ridiculous. And it always had been there."

So, after thinking it over, the guys decided to revisit the song for the album. "And we heard it and we kind of went back months later and [were like], 'What happened to the No ID beat?' ... So we got in the studio and hashed out this song, 'Make You Mine.' The track turned out ridiculous."

The guys not only hooked up with the hip-hop producer for the track, they also left sunny California to record the album in very chilly New York City. It was a refreshing change. "We had a bunch of demos written when we were leaving L.A. And then, hooking up with our team, they extended the hand [to come to NYC]," Cordy explained. "We never really lived on the East Coast, and we wrote in Brooklyn and spent a number of cold, cold winter months [there]. It gave the record two different angles."

Bandmate Marc Griffin explained that this album means the world to the group. "We've been writing it our whole lives," he said. "It's about love and heartbreak and nighttime and leaving home."

Justin Bieber may only be a 16-year-old pop star, but he usually has the stamina of a globe-trotting Olympic marathoner. Despite his superhuman ability to jet from one coast to the next on a weekly basis, however, even the Biebs gets taken low every once in a while.

That was the case on Sunday, when Bieber was forced to cancel his concert at the New York State Fair in Syracuse due to illness. According to the fair's website, Bieber bailed on his Sunday night show and rescheduled for Wednesday (September 1). Because of the switch, promoters were also forced to push Wednesday's previously scheduled Bieber show at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire, to December 9.

On Friday, Bieber tweeted that he was psyched for the weekend's shows but was not feeling well. "Next is Jersey, then Syracuse, then MSG in NYC for the 3D movie!!" he wrote that night. "Been super sick lately but u guys are carrying me. thank u for the love."

He was reportedly energetic during his show at New Jersey's Prudential Center on Saturday night, though, showing no signs of the impending ... Bieber fever.

But on Sunday afternoon, Bieber's enthusiasm had clearly been sapped a bit. He tweeted," really don't know what to twitter ... I'm getting rest right now and trying to recover from the not so good news from the doctor."

Though he didn't mention that the Syracuse show had been canceled, he followed with a shout out to fans. "I'm gonna be OK just need 2 rest but I wanted all of u 2 know I never want to let any of u down. I really appreciate all the kind words."

The New York Daily News reported that the singer's spokesperson vowed that Tuesday's Madison Square Garden show will go on, which is good news for fans who were hoping to be part of Bieber's 3-D movie, which is slated to take place at the concert.

Tom Hanks may have won a ton of awards in his career, including an Emmy on Sunday night for his work on the HBO miniseries "The Pacific," but there's still one thing that the Oscar winner has yet to do: He wants a part on "Glee," as does his wife and fellow Gleek, Rita Wilson.

" 'Glee,' oh my God! Yes! Oh please. Call [show creator] Ryan [Murphy] up! I was gonna get up on the stage tonight with them and start dancing," Wilson teased to MTV News at the HBO Emmy afterparty, where she tried to think up what her choice tune for the show would be. "For 'Glee'? Hold on!"

Her husband, on the other hand, had the perfect set of tunes for his wife to perform on the hit show. "You work for MTV, can't you make that happen? Bring it on! Bring it on!" he joked. " 'All the Single Ladies'! Oh no! 'Do You Believe in Love' by Cher!" (Hanks famously sang the Beyoncé track at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th anniversary concert at Madison Square Garden last October, saying it's a "damn fine song.")

While Hanks and Wilson wait for the call from Murphy about their cameos on the show, earlier in the night, "Glee" managed to take home a few Emmy Awards of its own, including prizes in the Supporting Actress, Comedy Series category for Jane Lynch, and the Directing for a Comedy Series for Ryan Murphy.

The night's host, Jimmy Fallon, kicked off the Emmys with a musical number that included several of the stars from "Glee," including Lea Michele and Cory Monteith, plus a number of TV's biggest stars like Jorge Garcia, Tina Fey, Jon Hamm, Nina Dobrev and Joel McHale.

What would you like to see Hanks and Wilson do on "Glee" should they get their wish? Tell us in the comments!

Kid Rock's Born Free Due November 16

New album will feature collaborations with T.I., Sheryl Crow and Zac Brown.
By Gil Kaufman

There's no way you're going to be able to confuse Kid Rock's upcoming album Born Free with twitch-pop bomb-thrower M.I.A.'s song of the same name.

First of all, Rock's eighth studio album, due November 16, was produced by legendary knobmeister Rick Rubin. Second, even though Rock, like M.I.A., will release a song called "Born Free" as his first single, the Detroit bad boy's tune focuses not on world affairs, but on the economic decline of his hometown, Detroit.

A press release announcing the album calls Born Free "transformational," going on to note that while Rock retains his "edge, wit, and swagger" on the record, he has left his rap-metal roots behind. "There isn't even a parental warning sticker," the release says.

Rock described how D-town inspired the Americana feel of some tracks.

"The catalyst for this record was Detroit, and my thoughts on the world through the lens of Detroit," he said. "Watching everything go downhill over the past few years, the economy, the loss of jobs everywhere, I wanted to make a record that reflected the times but that still had soul."

Most of the album was recorded during a two-week session in Los Angeles with a band that included Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Los Lobos guitarist/singer David Hidalgo and Chavez guitarist Matt Sweeney. The release also noted that Rock logged time in studios in Detroit, Nashville and Atlanta to lay down collaborations with fellow hometown rock icon Bob Seger, former flame Sheryl Crow, Zac Brown and Trace Adkins. T.I. and Martina McBride will appear on a song called "Care."

The disc is the follow-up to 2007's slow-burn success Rock N Roll Jesus, which produced the Lynyrd Skynyrd-inspired 2008 hit "All Summer Long."

Rock provided a preview of the album earlier this month when he performed six of its songs during a series of hometown shows. In addition to the Detroit-boosting anthem "Times Like These," he pulled the cover back on the Springsteen-like title track, the midtempo "Slow My Roll," the somber "Rock On," the 1970s-style rocker "Feels Good to Me" and the Rolling Stones-influenced "God Bless Saturday."

Jimmy Fallon, Betty White Earn Our Alternate Emmys

MTV News picks the truly award-worthy moments — and the massive fails.
By Gil Kaufman

Sunday night's Emmy Awards were full of unforgettable moments and thrilling first-time wins for the casts and brilliant minds behind "Modern Family," "Breaking Bad" and "Glee."

But because there's no Emmy Award for the Emmy broadcast itself, MTV News decided to sprinkle a bit more Hollywood pixie dust on Sunday night's winners and losers with our own nods to the show highlights.

Instant Viral-Video Hit: Host Jimmy Fallon didn't knock it out of the park, but his opening musical tribute to "Glee," set to the tune of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run," became an overnight viral hit.

Social-Networking Fail: Fallon promised to take the Emmys into the future with some Twitter bits, but his introductions of presenters courtesy of viewer tweets fell flat nearly every time.

Best Name That Totally Sounds Like It Was Made Up: Bucky Gunts. We were totally with comedian Ricky Gervais when he said he hoped the director of the opening ceremonies for the Vancouver Olympics with the vaguely porn-y sounding name would win his category.

Worst Use of a Prop: Gervais provided many moments of hilarity during his time onstage (go back and listen to the Mel Gibson bit), but perhaps the night's most awkward moment came after his rant about how, unlike at the Golden Globes, there's no booze at the Emmys. He rectified that situation by sending waiters out into the audience with a variety of microbrews for the attendees. Things got a bit weird, though, when former "Friends" star Matthew Perry, who has spent time in rehab, had to politely decline a bottle of suds.

Think It, But Don't Say It Award: Definitely goes to three-time Emmy winner Edie Falco for joking after she won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy for her role in "Nurse Betty": "I'm not funny." Guess who else doesn't think you are? All of the other women in the category.

Best Unexpected Cameo by the Subject of a TV Movie You'd Never Heard Of: Admit it, you got a bit misty when the spunky inspiration and namesake for "Temple Grandin" stood up during David Strathairn's acceptance speech and showed off her lady rancher outfit and later took the stage with her Hollywood doppelgänger, Emmy winner Claire Danes. Author and ethical-ranching promoter Grandin was the big winner of the night, with the HBO film about the autistic cowgirl's life taking home five awards and Grandin garnering tons of headlines on Monday morning (August 30).

Win by a Show You Should Start Watching Now!: If you missed the boat on the first three seasons of AMC's "Breaking Bad," maybe the wins by cancer-stricken, chemistry-teacher-turned-meth-cooker Bryan Cranston (his third) and former-junkie, lab-partner Aaron Paul will convince you to tune in. Seriously: one of the best shows on TV.

Enough Already Award: OK, we get it. Betty White is a hilarious senior citizen!

Kicking While Down Award: As much as we love "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart," did it really deserve to win a seventh time over Conan O'Brien's short-lived stint on "The Tonight Show"? Even if it was as a sympathy vote, O'Brien earned the nod for his perseverance alone and the classy way he handled the fallout. Plus, he brought his masturbating bear to the crown jewel of late night! That should count for something.

OK, That Didn't Work Award: Jimmy Fallon rules at coming up with funny musical bits, but his roving, guitar-strumming intros to the various award categories kind of fell flat and got old ... real fast.

Can Someone Please Get This Man His Own Show? Award: "Daily Show" contributor and author John Hodgman's deadpan, near-whispered cross talk as winners walked to the stage was one of the show's home-run genre tweakers. You know you're doing it right when you don't care whether the announcer is telling the truth because his delivery is just that funny. One of our favorites: "As ['The Big Bang Theory' winner] Jim Parsons walks to the stage now, nerds across America are taking to the streets in joy, setting cars on fire, and then backing away, using their inhalers."

Product-Placement Award: Nothing was more brazen than the cast of (Emmy network) NBC's "Community" shilling for their own show, the Emmy broadcast and Infiniti cars during an ad for the new QX56. I like to call it the product-placement Triple Lindy. Then again, the spot for Jimmy Dean pork sausage products after the In Memoriam segment, featuring a tribute to late actor/ pork entrepreneur Jimmy Dean, was also pretty brazen.

Did we miss anything? Tell us your 2010 Alternate Emmy Awards picks in the comments!

Somewhat lost in last week's announcement that both Usher and Paramore will be performing at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards was the news of who else would be joining the festivities ... and no, we're not talking about the stars of "The Social Network."

It's Robyn, the Swedish superstar who, slowly but surely, has begun her stateside assault with a pair of highly touted pop albums (Body Talk Part 1 and Body Talk Part 2, both released this year, with a third installment due in December), a stirring single and video ("Hang With Me"), and a string of sweat-drenched, sweet-and-salty live shows. And on VMA night, she'll take another step toward mainstream success when she performs with house artist Deadmau5 during the big show.

She's just one of the artists who'll be jamming with Deadmau5 — other confirmed acts include Travie McCoy and Jason Derülo — but she's certainly the one with the most to prove. After all, to most VMA viewers, she'll be the wild card, the great unknown. And, as she told MTV News, Robyn is more than honored to be performing ... and definitely looking forward to the challenge.

"Deadmau5 is fantastic and I'm super-duper excited to be able to perform for the VMA audience," she said in an e-mail. "I'm gonna be 'dancing on my own'!"

That, of course, is a reference to a (really awesome) single from the first Body Talk album — she'll be performing "a never-before-heard mix" of it at the VMAs — and though you probably aren't familiar just yet, we're willing to bet that after Robyn rocks the show, that will change. Quickly.

The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12, at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for the winners in general categories, including Best New Artist, from now through September 12.
