Demi Lovato is looking to try her hand at R&B on her next album. While she has cited Rihanna as an influence for the album's vibe, she has two of R&B and hip hop's most recognizable voices in mind as dream collaborators for the album, which she is currently hard at work on while hitting the road with the Jonas Brothers.

"I would love for Drake to be on the album," she said. "It's kind of like a pipe dream. I would also like to do a song with Trey Songz. It would be hot! Yeah, it would be really good."

While Drake and Trey aren't onboard (yet, anyway), fans can expect Demi to turn her sound upside down on the upcoming LP. "I've been working with a few producers," she told MTV News. "I don't know if I can talk about it, but I'm excited to start working with more people."

Lovato, who has always displayed her big voice on her songs and the "Camp Rock" soundtracks, is ready to show the world just what that sounds like on these new songs.

"I'm working on new music, writing new songs, trying to approach a different route, doing a new sound," Lovato said. "I'm really excited. It'll be fun. It's more R&B/pop. I'm trying to bring out my inner 'soul'; a new side of Demi," she laughed. "I'm straying away from the rock this time."

What R&B and hip-hop stars do you hope Demi teams up with? Let us know in the comments!

Tony Yayo said he has the most eclectic musical taste in G-Unit. He listens to J. Cole, Lady Gaga, The-Dream and the Pack's Lil B, who is on a few tracks from Yayo's new mixtape, along with protégé Danny Brown.

"Lil B, I told you I'm feeling," he said. "I wanna start something new and get some artists under the wing. Lil B, Danny Brown is on the mixtape coming soon. [G-Unit member] New Money Trav. Trav knows Lil B. He has connections with Too Short. I got connections with E-40. They all end up coming to the show in the Bay. That's how 50 [Cent] wound up doing the remix to [E-40's] 'N---a Don't Act Like a Bitch.' They all ended up backstage. We had E-40 back there, Too Short, Lil Uno from the Pack. It was so many people back there. I linked up with Lil B. His music is good. He's a real humble dude. That cooking dance is hot."

Tony said B came to the G-Unit mansion and banged out a few tracks shortly after.

"When I'm in the studio, me and D. Brown, it was cool new energy," the Southside Queens native said. "It was cool to have new energy in the studio. Like how Cam'ron vibes with Vado. I think Vado makes Cam better. You hear his sh-- sounding better because of Vado. Me working with D. Brown, I hear my sh-- sounding better and better. When you work with a guy who has punch lines, you take your time to create punch lines too. It's like a war in the studio. Lil B came to the studio, knocked out his verses easy. Came to the mansion, we balled out and just chilled, man."

When asked if he could see Lil B as part of G-Unit, Yayo didn't think it was out of the realm of possibility.

"I could see that," he said. "He's a little crazy, but I could see that. He makes good music. It's all about the good music."

Joe Jonas Says He's 'Working On Lots Of Music'

'I've heard it,' brother Nick says of Joe's solo material. 'It's awesome.'

While his brother Nick released a solo album earlier this year under his side project Nick Jonas and the Administration, Joe Jonas says he has no formal plans to go solo himself. But the middle Jonas, who made a cameo this week on TV Land's "Hot in Cleveland," admits he is working on some new music.

"I didn't say that," he laughed when MTV News asked about a solo LP. "I said I've been working on lots of music. I've been working [with] lots of musicians having a great time."

While he wouldn't get specific about what it is he's working on, or whom he's working on it with, Joe did add, "[I have] been writing with a lot of friends of mine and some artists here and there, and we'll see what comes out it."

So, in the event that he does release some independent work, will he borrow Nick's band name? "I leave the Administration stuff to Nick," he quipped.

Whatever he decides, it seems he's got the full support of his bros. "I've heard it. It's awesome," Nick said, before Kevin chimed in, "It's really good music."

With both Nick and Joe making strides to pursue their own endeavors apart from the band, we wondered, what has big brother Kevin been up to?

"I've just been really enjoying the first year of marriage," he explained. "So far, there's a couple things in the pipeline for me and, I don't know. There's a lot going on and I just want to explore every option."

Arnold Schwarzenegger's 'Eyes Lit Up' During 'Expendables,' Sylvester Stallone Says

'It's one thing to run a state, but it's another thing to get back to what you're really known for,' Sly tells MTV News.

Toward the fiery conclusion of last year's "Terminator Salvation," as Christian Bale blasts his way through Skynet's home base, slaying scores of red-eyed cyborgs, he meets an unlikely enemy: a young Arnold Schwarzenegger as the familiar T-800.

Whatever gripes fans might have with McG's take on the venerable sci-fi franchise — and there are many — the sight of Arnie digitally reconstructed to resemble his '80s-era self was unambiguously cool. But the Governator didn't actually step on set for the scene. Instead, McG employed some cutting-edge, "Benjamin Button"-style visual effects — as well as the blessing of the actor-turned-politician — to re-create the Schwarzenegger of old.

Not until this weekend, when Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables" hits theaters, will the most powerful man in California make his official return to Hollywood. And what a reintroduction it is, as we see Arnold stride into a church in truly epic fashion. In fact, after working with him on the new flick, Sly is hoping his '80s action pal sticks around Tinseltown after he leaves the governor's mansion early next year.

"If this works, I would love to get him in the next one," Stallone told MTV News of a possible sequel. "I really think so. He's been out of the limelight a long time, and I think this is the kind of film that would be a nice intro."

That might not be wishful thinking. Stallone witnessed firsthand how Schwarzenegger still gets pumped up about making movies — more than seven years since his last starring role.

"I saw his eyes light up. It's one thing to run a state, but it's another thing to get back to what you're really known for," Stallone said. "Certain actors you're never going to see come down the pike again, and he's one of them."

'Scott Pilgrim' Stars On Learning To Play Music Like Rock Stars

Posted: 11 Aug 2010 03:50 AM PDT

'I had guitar lessons, and I struggled,' confesses Mark Webber.
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Rick Marshall

From the very first scene in "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" in which Michael Cera and his Sex Bob-Omb bandmates strap on their instruments and bust out some serious rock-and-roll thunder, director Edgar Wright's new flick crackles with musical verve. There are band battles, tons of talk about record contracts and artist jealousy, and a soundtrack as important to the mood of each scene as the words coming out of each character's mouth.

Cera has strummed chords before, in "Juno" and "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist," but not all of his castmates had musical experience when they signed on to this adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's graphic novel series. So Wright threw his actors into rock-and-roll boot camp, and with the help of some pros, they ended up learning how to wail.

Of course, there were some hitches along the road toward rock immortality. "I had guitar lessons, and I struggled," confessed Mark Webber, who plays Sex Bob-Omb frontman Stephen Stills. "I had never sang before either, so I had to learn how to sing."

But it took a while. The cast got together for a month of rehearsals, which essentially became a Hollywood version of band practice. And by the end, Webber figured out what it took to deliver some kick-ass cinematic tuneage.

"I nailed it, to pat myself on the back," he laughed. "I had an amazing experience recording with [music supervisor] Nigel Godrich in [Metric guitarist] Jimmy Shaw's own personal studio in Toronto — just the two of us. That was a hell of an experience."

Co-star Alison Pill, by contrast, took immediately to her role as Sex Bob-Omb drummer Kim Pine.

"Drums are incredibly hard to learn, and you figured it out in two weeks," Johnny Simmons said, paying Pill a serious compliment.

"I got to meet with Beck's drummer, who was starting to teach me drumming that was beyond the stuff that was in the songs," she explained.

Just don't expect Sex Bob-Omb to actually hit the stage anytime soon — not unless they've got some pre-recorded music to help them along.

"As long as there's a big backing track!" laughed Simmons.

Joe Jonas Gushes About Filming 'Hot In Cleveland' Cameo With Betty White

Somewhere in between preparing for and launching the current Jonas Brothers tour and starring in Disney's "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam," Joe Jonas found the time to do a guest spot on TV Land's new hit, "Hot in Cleveland."

MTV News was invited to visit the set recently to catch a glimpse of the middle Jonas in action. In the episode, which airs Wednesday night (August 11), Jonas' character comes to visit his newly transplanted mom, played by Valerie Bertinelli. In the scene we watched, mother and son sit down to reconnect at a restaurant, and Jonas plays the "typical aloof teen" to a T — he is texting friends throughout the conversation, despite his mom's attempts to capture his attention.

When we caught up with the 20-year-old between takes, Jonas said despite having prior sitcom work in his own TV series "JONAS" on the Disney Channel, work on the "Cleveland" set was a completely new experience.

"We don't have a live audience," he said of the major difference. "And I'm hanging out with some amazing actresses. They are just incredible. Everyone on the set is just so talented. I'm playing Valerie's son, and I'm having a lot of fun. We rehearsed, and we just shot our first scene together, so hopefully it will look all right."

Asked if TV veteran Bertinelli or co-stars Wendy Malick, Jane Leeves and Betty White had imparted any advice, Jonas said he was just trying to soak up everything from the actresses.

"Just being around them, they are so talented that you just learn so much from them so quickly," he said. "And hanging out with them and watching Betty White knit is just so adorable, so I'm having a great time."

Speaking of White, we threw Jonas a curveball by asking: If Joe could be any Golden Girl, which one would he be?

"Betty, of course. Rose, yes," he said. "It's kinda an odd question to ask which Golden Girl I would be, but my favorite would just have to be Betty, because I know her now."

Florence And The Machine To Perform At Video Music Awards

She surprised pretty much everybody when her video for "Dog Days Are Over" racked up four nominations at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, and now, flame-haired siren Florence Welch (and, of course, the Machine too) have been tapped to perform the song on the big show, which airs September 12 at 9 p.m. ET.

And yes, they'll be aiming to surprise once again. Though, as Welch told MTV News last week, after learning of her noms, the celebs in the audience probably won't be the only ones who can't believe what they're seeing.

"I'm still kind of processing it, to be honest," Welch said. "It's such an iconic event, and it's something I've watched on TV since I was a kid. It's one of those things: It's not real life, it's a dream scenario. So for me to be actually a part of it feels like I'm in some sort of parallel universe. It's kind of strange and wonderful and terrifying all at the same time."

And that's a pretty good way to describe everything Florence and the Machine do (no wonder we picked them as "Artists to Watch" way back in January). From Welch's flowing gowns and epic, downright ethereal voice to the harpist she employs and the fresh-cut flowers she insists on decorating her mic stand with before each show, she's sure to raise more than a few eyebrows and probably win some new fans at the VMAs next month.

And one of her fellow nominees can't wait to see her play live: B.o.B, who told MTV News last week that that he's a huge fan of Welch and is expecting big things from her on VMA night.

"Oh, man, I dig Florence so much. I listened to her perform 'Dog Days Are Over' at Coachella, and she's amazing," he said. "I hope she performs, and I hope she wins everything. I think she's awesome."

The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for the winners in general categories, including Best New Artist, from now through September 12.

'Love The Way You Lie' Video Is 'Not About Eminem Or Rihanna,' Director Says

Posted: 09 Aug 2010 11:37 PM PDT

'These are fictional characters,' Joseph Kahn says of abusive couple played by Dominic Monaghan and Megan Fox.
By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Elias

Eminem and Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie" video has already raised eyebrows and sparked debate with its frank depiction of domestic violence, and given the history both artists have with the subject, many are now wondering if the clip is meant to be biographical.

After all, the "Lie" video goes to great lengths to show the depths of violence in a relationship, something Em has rapped about innumerous times in the past, and it's something Rihanna knows about all too well, after then-boyfriend Chris Brown assaulted her in 2009. So the question most seem to be asking is: Are the clip's two characters — played by Dominic Monaghan and Megan Fox — actually meant to represent Em and Rihanna?

To find out, MTV News went directly to the man responsible for the video (and its concept), director Joseph Kahn, who told us in no uncertain terms that, while there's a message behind "Lie," it has nothing to do with what's gone on in either artist's personal life.

"There are definitely things in both Rihanna and Eminem's [lives] that we have to be very sensitive about when we were making this video, [but] it's not a story about Eminem or Rihanna," he said. "It's a specific thing that I created for Dominic and Megan to play two people with very specific story lines to each other. These are fictional characters in my head but obviously based on real human beings."

So while he denies that Monaghan and Fox are playing Eminem and Rihanna in the video, Kahn said he can understand why fans might think that. After all, not only does the clip deal with an emotionally sensitive issue, but he happens to have a rather unique perspective on the lives of his musical stars.

"The subject matter is some of the most complex stuff I've ever handled ... [and] obviously there are parallels, in terms of the song, with Eminem's personal life and Rihanna's personal life," he said. "And I had actually, like last year, been working with Chris Brown ... so I'm in the middle of all this stuff, and I have to be very, very careful with how I tread. But ultimately, if you really look at the video, it's not about anybody in particular. ... It's a story specific to two characters I created."

Did you think the "Love the Way You Lie" clip was about Em and Rihanna? Let us know in the comments.

T.I. Calls Kanye West Studio Sessions 'Combustible'

Last week, T.I. revealed that he's teamed up with another powerful collaborator for his next LP, King Uncaged.

"I just left Hawaii with Kanye," Tip revealed when we met up with him in Hollywood on the red carpet for the world premiere of "Takers." "We did six records."

Over the weekend in Beverly Hills, where the Atlanta MC continued to promote his film — due in theaters August 27 — Tip elaborated a little bit more on his sessions with one of the great producers and MCs in music. The King of the South said he's anxious for the world to hear his new records.

"Well, Kanye, man, he's a phenomenal talent," Tip said. "It goes without saying that it's combustible energy [when we're in the studio]. I'm excited to present it."

Back in June, T.I. lavished similar praise on another artist appearing on his September opus: Lady Gaga.

"She's a phenomenal talent, and I think that talent transcends through all genres, all races, all religions, all countries," he complimented.

Although no final track listing has been announced, judging by the preliminary round of interviews alone, the album sounds like it could be Tip's biggest yet. Swizz Beatz, Timbaland and Eminem are also among those who've had sessions with him.

"I reached out to Em," Tip explained in May. "My management reached out to his management, just in hopes of getting him on a record. Em personally reached out to me, and we been speaking ever since, especially since I went through my situation [with having to go to prison]. [He would] just kinda remind me that 'I've been through dark period in my life too. You're gonna make it. You're one of the ones we need, so you're gonna make it. Stand tall and walk the walk.' He just made it a point to always reassure me of the spot that I hold in this thing that we got called hip-hop. It was incredibly helpful. It was incredibly noble of him, in my eyes, to even take the time out to reach out to me."

Do you think Tip's next album will be his biggest yet? Sound off in the comments!

Exclusive: Young Jeezy Addresses Rick Ross 'Dis' Speculation

'What am I gonna get out of dissing him?' the Snowman says to MTV News, addressing 'Death B4 Dishonor' verse.
By Shaheem Reid

We're not going to make you wait 26 episodes until the season finale to reveal the answer to this cliffhanger. On Monday night, Young Jeezy released "Death B4 Dishonor," the first song from his upcoming mixtape, 1,000 Grams, Vol. 1. On it, he raps over Rick Ross' "(B.M.F.) Blowin' Money Fast" instrumental, which quickly fueled heavy speculation among fans that the Snowman was actually dissing the Bawse. Jeezy settled the question straight-up on Tuesday (August 10).

"It's not a dis," Jizzle told MTV News via phone from ATL. "First of all, I'm not gonna get nothing out of dissing that guy. That's one. What am I gonna get out of dissing him? I think sometimes people can read into things too deep. They trippin', man. They crazy out there. Basically, if homie takes that as a dis, he's insecure.

"When it comes to that [Black Mafia Family] situation, I'm gonna talk about it a little flyer anyway," Young added. "I happen to know that situation very well. But basically ['Death B4 Dishonor'], it's off a mixtape that's coming out. My mixtape is coming out on Thursday, it's called 1,000 Grams. I took all the records I liked and flipped them my way. It's a gang of records on there like that. It's like 12 joints, all records that I heard in the club that I like and flipped them my way.

While Jeezy doesn't mention Ross by name on "Death B4 Dishonor," one of the lines fueling the speculation questions: "How you Blowin' Money Fast?/ You don't know the crew/ Oh, you part of the fam?/ Sh--, I never knew."

"That's for real," Jeezy explained. "That's for anybody. I got n---as in prison behind that sh--. I feel that if you speaking on sh--, you gotta at least know who you talking about. That's like n---as speaking on Cash Money: If he ain't never been a part of Cash Money, [then] I'mma speak it better if I'm a part of Cash Money. To me, [Black Mafia Family] was real. I know all the members. Who else would say a line like that but me? I'm one of the few people who can say that, so I said it. That's real life, though. You gotta know the crew, baby. I thought that was the purpose of the game: to get on records and talk your sh--, right?

"Subliminals, for what?" the Snowman added. What's understood ain't gotta be said. I didn't think people would take the record like that. I did it like I would have any Shawty Lo record, any Rocko record, whoever. I got on [Ross' beat] and did it like how I do it, the best way I know how. I don't know if because the BMF situation is for real for me that everybody is like, 'Ooh. Oh, sh--.' Twitter is a muthaf---a, by the way."

During our talk, Jeezy said that his song "The Real BMF" had already been recorded (and was sitting in his vault) before Ross' "(B.M.F.)" was released. "The Real BMF" was supposed to have been included on the upcoming TM103, but once he heard that Ross put out a song so similar, he decided it didn't belong on his LP; it would just be a giveaway to the streets.

Young also described Ross' "(B.M.F.)" as "dope" and said he was bound to jump on the record one way or another, either officially or through the mixtape circuit, which he ultimately did. On 1,000 Grams, Vol. 1 he also flips Soulja Boy's "Pretty Boy Swag" into "Dope Boy Swag" and Kanye West's "Power" into the record & #8212; so aptly titled for the #1 Trap Star & #8212; "Powder." Records by the Clipse and Young Money also get their instrumentals borrowed for the tape. Records by the Clipse and Young Money also get their instrumentals borrowed for the tape. The project is available Thursday at promptly 1:03 p.m. ET via Jeezy's website, USDA2day.com.

"It was one of those things, you get in a zone and wanna get some sh-- off," he said of the DJ Scream-hosted tape. "I wanted to have some fun. Get in the booth, smoke me one or two."

And yes, his long-awaited TM103 album is still on the way. He promises it'll drop before the end of 2010.

What do you think of Jeezy's explanation? Does this end the speculation for you? Tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Hours after reports surfaced that former "American Idol" champ Fantasia Barrino was admitted to a North Carolina hospital for a drug overdose after an apparent suicide attempt, Barrino's father and manager have said the singer is already on the road to recovery.

"She's doing fine," Joseph Barrino told RadarOnline.com from his home in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Manager Brian Dickens confirmed reports that the cause of Barrino's overdose was due to her ingesting too much medication, a combination of aspirin and a sleep aid.

"Her injuries are not life-threatening. She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time," Dickens told People magazine. "Fantasia is stable now. She will be released from the hospital soon."

The incident is said to be part of an ongoing investigation, and it comes just after Barrino was named in a court filing alleging that she was having an affair with Antwaun Cook, a married man. Last week, Cook's wife Paula filed court documents that allege that her husband and Barrino began a "covert adulterous affair" in August 2009 and that the two made a sex tape, which led to the couple's divorce. Barrino denied that she was responsible.

Late Monday evening, local authorities were called to a home in the Glynmoor Lakes neighborhood of Charlotte, North Carolina, after Dickens reported that something was wrong with the former Broadway star. According to police sources, the officers who arrived on the scene found Barrino in a closet. The fomer "Idol" champ was immediately taken to Mercy South Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville, North Carolina.

Flo Rida 'Looks Forward' To David Guetta Bringing Home A VMA

As if working with the Black Eyed Peas, Akon and Rihanna weren't enough of a signal of international dance music's crossover star David Guetta's two-year ascension to the top of the American urban pop-music scene, the French house-music producer is up for a Moonman at this year's Video Music Awards.

Nominated for Best Dance Music Video for his hit single "Sexy Chick," featuring Akon, Guetta is up against some stiff competition for his big night in L.A. on September 12. His fellow nominees include Usher for "OMG," German dance group Cascada (remember "Everytime We Touch"?) for "Evacuate the Dancefloor" and Enrique Iglesias' "I Like It," featuring Snooki, the Situation and company. And let's not forget the biggest of elephants in the room, Lady Gaga for "Bad Romance."

Still, DGuetta's boy, rapper Flo Rida, with whom he currently has a top 10 hit in Europe with "Club Can't Handle Me," thinks his chances of winning are rather good.

"My reaction to David Guetta being nominated for 'Best Dance Video'? Well, he's definitely a household name," Flo told MTV UK today in London. "Not just nationally, but he's internationally known. He's a passionate dude about his music and he gets the party crunk. I look forward to him taking that home."

"The genius of him is the fact that he is a perfectionist. He strives to make sure that a record has the right gumbo," Flo said using the analogy of the Southern dish of random ingredients that somehow just tastes right. "It moves you — having you bob your head. If you are a dancer, it will make you try some new moves. David Guetta has that work ethic and that drive to make sure he has the #1 party record, like we do right now with 'Club Can't Handle Me.' "

And while fans will have to wait till the big night to find out if Guetta proves the victor, Flo Rida has a special message for all you David Guetta fans out there.

"To David Guetta and his fans, y'all make sure and support him," Flo said. "David, you know you work hard. You grind. Win or lose, I feel like you are still the winner because you have fans that are very loyal to you. So do your thing. Keep your head up."

The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12, at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for the winners in general categories, including Best New Artist, from Tuesday (August 3) through September 12.

Laidback Luke Says He Has A Dozen Releases Set For 2010

The superstar house-music DJ/producer has already made tracks like 'Turbulence' club staples.
By Lara Kelly

Laidback Luke is having a large summer. Last week, the Dutch DJ/producer's track "Till Tonite" featuring Jonathan Mendelsohn (Chris Kaeser remix) climbed onto the Beatport Top 10 chart, while he held down two superparties at Cream Amnesia in Ibiza. And his collaboration with Los Angeles-based DJ/producer Steve Aoki and crunk king Lil Jon, "Turbulence," has become a staple in house-music sets at some of the biggest music festivals around the world, even before its official release.

In addition to all of that, Luke is in the running to become America's Best DJ, and he counts Tiësto and Diplo as fans.

"It's a dream come true," Luke told Beatportal.com recently. "[My career] has definitely taken off recently. I sometimes wish I had a teleportation machine or could clone myself to be able to handle everything. I've worked really hard to get to this point, and I feel blessed to have pulled it off."

MTV News sat down with Laidback Luke recently in Los Angeles to find out how he does it all. Luke has become a notable in the dance-music scene, throwing one of the wildest roaming club parties around the globe, Super You & Me, where performers and attendees dress as their favorite superheroes. But he's also made a practice of mentoring up-and-coming DJs and producers and helping artists to gain a foothold in the industry.

"I'm all about the next generation. It's not all about me, it's all about keeping up house music and keeping it healthy and passing it on to the next generation. So what I do is I guide people on my forum, LaidbackLuke.com. And basically there are kids on there and I give them tips, and they grow and they stay in touch with me for a couple of years and I just school them; then they become the Afrojacks and the Aviciis of the next generation."

Now he has a platform to help develop that new talent: his own label, Mixmash, where he's working with unsigned artists as well as powerhouse producers like Steve Angello, A-Trak, Diplo and MSTRKRFT.

"We have tons of releases this year. It's a platform for new talent," Luke said. "I always test out the new releases in my sets, so whenever they go good, I sign them. We have at least 12 releases planned already. My collaboration with Steve Aoki and Lil Jon, a track called 'Turbulence,' we are testing it out on dance floors at the moment, and it's set to be big."

Fans can catch Laidback Luke on the main stage at New York's upcoming Electric Zoo. The two-day electronic music festival kicks off on September 5 with a lineup that includes Armin Van Buuren, Axwell, the Chemical Brothers, Benny Benassi, Major Lazer and many others.

Season-three "American Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino has been hospitalized in North Carolina for a drug overdose after an apparent suicide attempt, WBTV reports.

The CBS affiliate cites a police report filed with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg precinct, in which officers were notified late Monday evening by Barrino's manager, Brian Dickens, that something was wrong with the former "Color Purple" star.

According to the police sources, the officers who arrived on the scene reportedly found Barrino in the closet of a home in the Glynmoor Lakes neighborhood. The fomer "Idol" champ was immediately taken to Mercy South Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville, North Carolina.

The police report classified Burrino's condition as a "suicide/overdose" and described Barrino as having suffered "possible internal injuries" after she ingested too much medication. The incident is said to be part of an ongoing investigation. A rep for Barrino did not respond to requests for comment at press time.

Barrino was her usual sweet and spunky self when she talked to MTV News last month about the release of her video for "Bittersweet." She spoke proudly of having taken control of creative and directorial decisions during the shoot and enjoying her handsome co-star, Washington Redskins wide receiver Devin Thomas.

"I enjoyed myself, let's just put it like that," Burrino said. "I had a great time. ... He was really nice, which made it a lot easier."

The 25-year-old's post-"Idol" career has had its highs and lows. Burrino's album sales have not met those of other "Idol" alumni, and in 2009, she battled rumors that her home was in foreclosure and Simon Cowell had to bail her out. However, her reality show, "Fantasia for Real," which premiered earlier this year, was a hit for VH1, and a second season is scheduled to start September 19.

Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' Video: Fall In Love All Over Again

You've got to hand it to Katy Perry: She's really hitting on all cylinders these days. "California Gurls," the first single from her album Teenage Dream, was the official anthem of the first half of summer, a fun and flirty song that probably served as the soundtrack to your various beachfront flings. And now, she's back with the album's title track — and second single — which will undoubtedly serve as the soundtrack to one of those flings blossoming. She's got you covered every step of the way ... it's sorta brilliant, really.

Both "Teenage Dream" and its accompanying video are about falling madly in love, about losing your inhibitions and getting jelly-kneed by the mere thought of being near that certain someone. Sure, you may have snogged your fair share of guys or gals down the shore this summer (that's what "California Gurls" was for), but now you've found the one that makes you feel all giddy inside, and you're ready to let your guard down and go head-over-heels. "Dream" is all those gooey feelings turned into a pop song.

The video was directed by Yoann Lemoine, who fills it with gauzy, sunset-tinged scenery: a beach in the waning light, the rapidly darkening hills of California, the incandescent glow of a pool in the early evening. Much like the song itself, the entire clip feels like a whooshing, love-drunk dream. Perry frolics with a frequently shirtless hunk (actor Josh Kloss) and is giddy throughout. She brings her friends (including L.A. socialites Ana Calderon and DJ Skeet Skeet) along to share in the merriment, and they throw impromptu dance parties all over Southern California.

It all possesses an unwound, unabashed glee — the kind of bliss that only comes when you first fall in love, when everything seems to be taken from a movie (or, in this case, an Abercrombie & Fitch billboard) and nothing seems impossible. In that regard, it fits the feel of the song perfectly. Perry always stays on message. There is no deviation. It's ingenious, not to mention a little frightening.

Welcome to your favorite song of the second half of 2010, the one you'll fall in love with (and to). You are powerless to resist.

Matt And Kim Reveal Details Of New Single, 'Cameras'

'I decided we don't write songs anymore, we write anthems,' Matt Johnson tells MTV News.

Matt & Kim have already gotten naked in Times Square, won a Woodie and probably guaranteed themselves a lifetime supply of Bacardi. But they're not about to stop there.

Because when MTV News caught up with the dynamic duo on Friday at Lollapalooza, they told us — exclusively, it would seem — about their plans to unleash a brand-new single this month ... with another eye-popping video (and album) to follow. And once again, they're thinking big.

"Well, the song's called 'Cameras' and the chorus says, 'No time for cameras/ We'll use our eyes instead,' which is a very Matt and Kim kind of message," Matt Johnson told us in Chicago. "But [it's got the] same sort of good, party vibe, big heavy beats, sing-along chorus. I decided we don't write songs anymore, we write anthems."

And as far as that video is concerned, well, they're not about to reveal all the secrets just yet. But from the sound of things, it's gonna be amazing. Or a complete disaster.

"We came up with an idea, and, if we can pull it off, wow," Johnson laughed. "There will probably be some angry people."

There's also the matter of that new album, the follow-up to their breakthrough 2009 effort, Grand. To hear M&K tell it, they're "very much in the home stretch" of things, and the album is "theoretically" due this fall. About the only thing standing in their way at this point seems to be coming up with a suitable title for the disc, a process that is proving to be more complicated than they could ever have imagined.

"We've been struggling on that for a long time. We took a vote yesterday, actually," Johnson admitted. "The first name we definitely wanted to call it was Deluxe, and I think that's a great name, but our distributor said, 'That is the worst possible, most confusing name.' Because we had a self-titled album, so now if we have Matt & Kim Deluxe, it's gonna seem like a deluxe edition of our first album. So it's not going to be called Deluxe anymore, which is a shame, because if we had a deluxe edition of that, we could've called [it] Deluxe Deluxe."

Although Capone-N-Noreaga released The War Report 2, the sequel to their debut album, earlier this summer, one-half of the Queens duo wanted to make sure he snuck in another project before flip-flops get exchanged for Timberlands.

"I kind of miss going to the clubs, so I immediately wanted to drop a club banger," Nore told MTV News of his single "Nutcracker." "I didn't want the summer to leave without me having a club banger. So that's what I wanted to do."

The Scoop DeVille-produced knocker is the first effort from Nore's forthcoming solo album, which he hopes to release with a major label. The rapper is finalizing a director to work on the visual for "Nutcracker," which he hopes will either be a spoof of the movie "House Party" or a take on "Flavor of Love," featuring Public Enemy hype man Flavor Flav in the clip.

In the meantime, Nore is finishing up his album and hoping to add a few more features once he signs a new deal. For now, he's enjoying the success of "Nutcracker."

"Big-up to my man Scoop DeVille tearing it up, man," Nore said. "I couldn't let the summer leave. I needed one of those club bangers. I was a big fan of [Scoop] from the work he's done with Snoop, [Fat] Joe and now Nore. And hopefully we'll have a smash as well."

What's your take on "Nutcracker"? Let us know in the comments!

'Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World' Stars Rock Out On The Set

'It feels like we're just hanging out at a really fun concert,' Mary Elizabeth Winstead tells MTV News of filming battle of the bands.

The buzz surrounding Edgar Wright's "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" continues to build in anticipation of the graphic novel-turned-feature film's release this week. In addition to welcoming the entire cast to our Comic-Con live stream last month, MTV News was lucky enough to spend a day on the high-energy set in Toronto last year.

The day we visited, Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ramona Flowers) informed us that Wright and company were getting ready to shoot a complex fight/concert sequence involving Ramona's Evil Ex # 3, Todd Ingram, and Pilgrim's ex-turned-rock star Envy Adams.

Brandon Routh described Ingram as "basically the best ex," boldly telling us that the fight between his character and Pilgrim (Michael Cera) was not going to end well for the film's namesake. "Scott's going to get the crap beat out of him by me pummeling through walls and everything," Routh said. "And then we have a big bass battle, which is a lot of fun."

"This set is based on a real rock club, Lee's Palace," Wright explained. "And the only reason we're shooting [on a] set is because a whole bunch of walls need to get knocked down."

"We're kind of in the middle of our battle of the bands," Mark Webber (Sex Bob-omb bandmember Stephen Stills) said of his character's action in the scene. "We're getting ready to see the Clash at Demonhead perform."

Speaking of Demonhead, the band's lead singer, Envy Adams (Brie Larson), said that they're going to rock — literally and figuratively. "The main thing is that we want to spread the love and play a really rockin' show, and hopefully something really kind of universal happens tonight."

Judging from the reactions from the extras in the concert sequence, Clash at Demonhead did indeed play a rockin' show that day. Winstead said that the music and overall energy from the extras made the scene.

"The music is amazing, and the extras have been really amazing in making it seem really authentic and real," she said. "It's been an awesome day, because it feels like we're just hanging out at a really fun concert."

Check out everything we've got on "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World."

When Justin Bieber referred to Kim Kardashian as his "girlfriend" in a tweet earlier this year, it was all in innocent fun. But his legion of Beliebers didn't find it so amusing and retaliated by swarming the reality star with death threats. Now the pair are taking their newfound friendship in front of the camera lens for a sunny, summer spread in the September issue of Elle.

"Remember those paparazzi pics of me and Justin Bieber in the Bahamas!? Well, I can now reveal that we were shooting for Elle magazine!" Kardashian wrote in her blog on Tuesday (August 10). "I just received the pics from the shoot and I absolutely LOVE how they turned out! The theme of the shoot was 'The Graduate,' for obvious reasons, LOL.

"Justin and I had such a fun time together at the shoot," she continued.

In the spread, which was shot by Kevin Keiser, the two bask in the sun on the tranquil shores of the Bahamas. In one shot, Bieber is seen photographing the 29-year-old socialite, who's decked out in sunglasses and black lingerie. Another photo shows a seductive Kardashian peering behind her as she exercises in a short dress and heels while the teen's music video plays on a flat screen. The pair are also shown running on the beach, hand-in-hand and soaking wet in their clothing after taking a dip in the ocean.

In a behind-the-scenes video on Elle.com, Kardashian recalls how the two met and the chaos that erupted after their fake flirtation. The video transitions into a montage of footage from the shoot as "Baby" plays in the background. "I don't get how people would think that's, like, serious. Sorry Biebs," Kim says, and the video abruptly ends.

What do you think of Justin and Kim's flirty photo shoot? Talk about it in the comments!

Snooki Says Miami Girls 'Threw Themselves' At The 'Jersey Shore' Guys

'Even in Seaside, before [anyone] knew who we were, the guys got a lot of girls,' Snooki explains.

Anyone who's seen the first couple of episodes of the new season of "Jersey Shore" can tell that all the club-hopping, game-kicking action we witnessed last season in Seaside Heights has been ramped up exponentially with the crew down in Miami Beach.

With greater public exposure, so it seems, comes greater temptation. But as Snooki told MTV News, the lure of the MTV cameras was evident back in Jersey too. "Even in Seaside, before [anyone] knew who we were, the guys got a lot of girls," she explained. "The girls were throwing themselves at them. It was just 10 times more in Miami."

While Ronnie flirted with Jell-O shot girls and enjoyed a few three-way kisses at South Beach clubs, Snooki and her girls kept the gawking dudes at bay — well aware of their true, I-wanna-be-a-star motives.

"And the guys, for us, it just wasn't a good time, because we knew why they were throwing themselves at us," she said. "I was just like, 'No, not having it!' "

Nor were they or "Shore" producers having any of the constant attention of tabloid photographers, who trailed the kids from gym to tanning salon to laundry to their jobs at a local gelato shop.

"Miami, it was very overwhelming," Snooki said. "Right when we got to the house, there was paparazzi everywhere. But the fact that the producers and the editing crew, they made it look like there was nothing there — made it so much better. Because we tried to avoid them so much, and you know the paparazzi — they're going to follow us anywhere. We did what we could and we were still ourselves, no matter what."

"No money or fame can change us," she added.

Watch "Jersey Shore" Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on MTV.
