Drake is taking it way back for his 2010 MTV Video Music Awards promo.

Donning a dapper suit, complete with a gentlemanly pocket square, the singer and rapper is surrounded by midcentury glamour as he takes the mic for a commercial touting his VMA appearance. The Toronto lyricist makes a dramatic entrance under a brightly lit "Drake" marquee and steps onto a stage populated by a sprawling big band sporting white jackets.

"I get to channel my inner [Frank] Sinatra," Drizzy — who is up for Moonmen for Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Male Video — said on the set. "In the acting world, you gotta have reference points. I like to get into characters."

Sinatra isn't the only legend that influences Drake's gentlemanly style in the promo. The "Degrassi" actor-turned-chart-topping MC also looked to Denzel Washington's troubled trumpeter in Spike Lee's 1990 flick "Mo' Better Blues."

" 'Mo' Better Blues' is like one of my favorite movies of all time. This reminds me of Denzel, who played a character [called] Bleek Gilliam," Drake explained. "I'm trying to channel that today."

Drake may have mined the mannerisms of a pair of jazzy icons for the promo, but the period set and crew of extras donning retro looks also helped the MC get in character.

"There's a '50s theme. They got it right, though. They got the set and the wardrobe," Drake said. "I feel like I'm here."

What are you expecting from Drake's VMA performance? Let us know in the comments below!

The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for the winners from now through September 12.

Taylor Swift falls in — and out — of love in her upcoming video for "Mine," and you can catch an exclusive sneak peek of the clip right now.

Co-directed by Swift and Roman White, the "Mine" video was shot in Kennebunkport, Maine, and features a rollercoaster romance between Taylor and her man, played by "Black Swan" actor Toby Hemingway. In the clip we've got for you right now, the relationship's ups and downs are on display.

We see Swift and Hemingway holding hands on the beach, cozying up on the couch, and — in a genuinely charming moment — getting engaged when Hemingway pops the question and presents a ring to a surprised Swift. There's also plenty of bad, including a whopper of a shouting match that sends a little girl (which, we're assuming, symbolizes a young Swift) scurrying from the house.

In the preview clip, we also get a few shots of Swift, who's nominated for Best Female Video at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, performing the song in a dreamlike forest where photographs of the couple dangle from the trees.

From the look of things, the "Mine" video follows the lyrical arc of the song, though we're not quite sure how the relationship plays out. We probably won't get our answer until "Mine" premieres on Friday (August 27) at 8:30 p.m. ET on MTV.com, VH1.com and CMT.com.

"Mine," which debuted at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 last week, is the first single off Swift's forthcoming album Speak Now, which is due on October 25.

Lil Wayne 'Lectures' Drake, Bow Wow To Avoid Prison

'This ain't built for cats like us ... You and Drizzy stay clean,' Bow says Weezy advised during a visit to Rikers.

Lil Wayne's daily prison routine reportedly consists of mundane activities like watching ESPN and chatting on the phone. Despite his seemingly laid-back schedule, the Young Money/ Cash Money leader has cautioned his protégés to steer clear of trouble. Jail is no place for successful rappers, according to Wayne. During a visit to the incarcerated MC, Bow Wow, who joined Weezy's camp last year, said Wayne urged him and Young Money star Drake to stay on their best behavior.

"One thing he told me when I went to visit him, he was like ... 'Bow, this ain't for us, this ain't it. This ain't built for cats like us. They don't understand us, we don't understand them. Don't do it man, just stay out of trouble. You and Drizzy, y'all stay clean, y'all stay doing what y'all do. Y'all can do this forever,' " Bow Wow told Houston's 97.9 The Box. "I knew he meant it, [because] Tune never lectures me like that ... but he was serious."

The 23-year-old rapper said that seeing Wayne locked up was a "humbling experience" and recalled hanging with Weezy before his prison stint.

"In our studio, it's my room ... then Stunna's room then Wayne's room. I'm so used to seeing the Bugatti pull up, I'm so used to ... going over Wayne's house and the chef is always cooking," Bow Wow said. "You don't like seeing your boy like that," Bow lamented.

Similar to how Wayne doled out advice to Bow, the young rapper said he looks out for another member of the extended Young Money/ Cash Money collective: Nicki Minaj. Bow Wow, who stars in the comedy "Lottery Ticket," almost scored the hip-hop diva a role in the summer flick.

"To be honest, Nicki was close to being [the character] 'Nikki' in the movie. I called Nicki and said, 'Yo, I think you should audition for this role.' " Unfortunately, Bow's bid to get Minaj some screen time was unsuccessful: The part eventually went to R&B vixen Teairra Mari. "I thought [Minaj] did good, but unfortunately you know how things don't work out."

Fans won't catch Minaj on the big screen in "Lottery Ticket" but Bow Wow said a big tour featuring Weezy's hitmaking squad will go down once Wayne comes home.

"When he gets out, we definitely plan on this Young Money/ Cash Money tour," Bow said. "[The tour will feature] myself, Nicki, Drizzy, Wayne and the whole entire family."

What do you think about Lil Wayne's advice to Bow and Drake? Let us know in the comments.

Kanye West 'Power' Remix Co-Stars Jay-Z, Swizz Beatz

Jay gives advice and encouragement to Kanye in his verse, which premiered Thursday.
By Gil Kaufman

If you're putting together a remix of a song called "Power," it makes sense to hand over the first few verses to Forbes' top Hip-Hop Cash King. That explains why Kanye West invited Jay-Z to bless the remake of the first single from his new album.

"Is this thing on? Oh, I thought they silenced us, 'Ye. Power to the people," Jay says before dropping into his first verse on the song, which Funkmaster Flex aired in part on New York's Hot 97 and then posted in full on his site Thursday (August 19) night.

"We livin' in that 31st century/ Futuristic fly sh--/ The penthouse is the projects and everybody flies private," Jigga raps, taking the tune a century ahead of Kanye's original. "New watches, you know what time it is, watch us/ They can't stop us, the prophets, beyotches," he adds, before Yeezy lays down the song's now-indelible chorus.

But Jay's not done yet. "Rumble young man, rumble/ Life is a trip so sometimes we gon' stumble/ You gotta go through pain in order to become you/ But once the world numbs you you'll feel like there's only one you/ Now you got the power to do anything you want to/ Until you ask yourself, 'Is this what it's all come to?' "

Giving some sage advice to his younger charge, Jay adds, 'F--- all these labels/ F--- what everyone wants from you," warning that they're trying to "Axl Rose you/ Welcome to the Jungle." The Chairman follows up with a reference to the philosophy of renowned late author, womanizer and pugilist Norman Mailer, explaining that his man is "in search of the truth/ Even if it goes through Taylor Swift."

By the time it's Kanye's time to shine, he's ready to brag about how "Power" has already created its own universe. "Now when I walk in, everybody do the 'Power' clap/ Clap, clap, clap/ Fresh for the club, I just took a half an hour nap," raps the tireless MC. Then he alludes to the time he spent off after the Swift incident at last year's MTV VMAs with the line, "My socket was out the plug, now it's time to get the power back."

After pondering the abuse of power, 'Ye says while we can't all become "American Idols," we can at least "grab a camera, shoot a viral/ Huh? Take the power in your own hands/ I'm a grown man, doin' my grown dance." Considering his video for "Power" is like a moving painting, it's fitting that the Louis Vuitton Don drops an art history reference, ending his verse with the line, "I don't stop until I see the end, my vision is clear, b----/ I'm on my Van Gogh, I don't hear s---."

West gets a bit uncharacteristically political in his next verse, sending prayers out to those who lost family members in the Pakistani floods while praying that the U.S. keeps troops out of Iran and doesn't get tangled up with North Korea. Swizz Beatz drops in to pump West up a bit more, and then Yeezy brings it home with an extended verse in double time over his background singers, who slide into the iconic chorus from Snap!'s 1990 club banger "The Power."

Showing he still feels like a king, Kanye drops references to the crucifixion and compares himself to both NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon and NBA superstar Michael Jordan. "But I be feelin' like Jordan when I'm recordin'," he says, elongating the end of each line, " 'Cause every time I record, I duck to slap the boards."

But don't think he doesn't have a sense of humor about his public image. "I don't know what these rappers gon' do afterwards/ Prolly spaz like I might do at the awards," he says, admitting that the remix is another realization of one of his life's dreams.

"Now Jay my big brother and Bey my 'lil sister."

What do you think of Kanye's "Power" remix with Jay-Z and Swizz Beatz? Let us know in comments below.

It looks like fans will have to wait to catch Drake and Wiz Khalifa on the same bill.

In a much-watched Ustream convo with fans on Thursday, Drizzy extended an invitation to Khalifa to join his upcoming Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour. However, the Pittsburgh MC said he won't be added to the Nightmares lineup, which also features Clipse and Bun B, and has decided to focus on his own Waken Baken string of dates.

"No disrespect to [Drake] or anybody else who might wanna see me do some more collaborative things, but to keep building and keep my brand as strong as what it is, I gotta keep focusing on what it is," Khalifa told XXLmag.com on Friday (August 20). "This is my first tour that I got coming up, the Waken Baken Tour. I gotta at least kick that off and make that what it is so we can do 10 more."

The Kush & OJ MC clarified that although he'll be working the performance circuit solo, it's all love when it comes to Drake. Khalifa confided that Drizzy's offer proves he's on the right track.

"Just the fact of cuz even extending his hand and me being on his radar is tight to me. It just lets me know that I'm doing what I need to be doing as far as staying relevant and staying poppin'," Khalifa said. "But I think to keep me poppin' and keep me relevant I gotta stay building on top of what I'm doing and what I been doing."

Khalifa also added that he needs to stay on his grind until he can stack paper like Drizzy.

"I was looking on the Internet and [saw] that [Drake] made $10 million this year," Khalifa said. "So maybe when I make $10 million, then we can tour."

The MC added that while he won't be an official Nightmares act, he may make a special appearance in certain cities.

"We can do like some special dates or some surprise guest-type thing, but I need 10 mil too, Drake," Khalifa said, ribbing the Toronto lyricist.

Lindsay Lohan May Have Prescription To Blame For Drug Problems

Posted: 20 Aug 2010 01:12 AM PDT

Adderall may have exacerbated any existing issues, expert says.
By Gil Kaufman

It may turn out that the disease that troubled actress Lindsay Lohan isn't suffering from is the one that could have caused many of her recent problems.

According to TMZ, doctors at the UCLA Medical Center — where Lohan is currently 19 days into a court-ordered, 90-day inpatient stay — reportedly believe that the "Mean Girls" star was misdiagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Adderall, a drug commonly prescribed to treat that disorder, may have caused her to exhibit the irrational, manic symptoms similar to those of someone abusing cocaine or methamphetamine.

Lohan's lawyer has not returned requests for comment from MTV News, but Dr. Peter Breggin, a psychiatrist and leading expert on the dangers of the over-prescribing of psychiatric drugs, said it doesn't really matter if Lohan, 24, was misdiagnosed or not. "Whether or not she was misdiagnosed, [Adderall] will have the same effect," said Breggin, the author of "Medication Madness: The Role of Psychiatric Drugs in Cases of Violence, Suicide and Crime." Breggin has not treated Lohan and he does not have first-hand knowledge of her case.

"It's a myth that it will have a different effect whether you have ADHD or not," he explained. "If she was given Adderall, it's entirely possible she would have a reaction that was indistinguishable from that of methamphetamine or cocaine, including producing manic or psychotic behavior."

Adderall has helped many teenagers and adults suffering from ADHD gain control of their lives. But Breggin said it is possible to become addicted to the drug, which can trigger out-of-control episodes when taken in high doses. Add in an addiction to or chronic use of cocaine and other stimulants and, he said, that person could very easily be susceptible to the abuse of Adderall.

"Adderall is pure amphetamine and it changes the neurotransmitters in a similar fashion [as other stimulants]," he said, noting that research in humans and animals has shown that the effect on those vital neurotransmitters is to make the person crave stimulants. "You don't want to give someone an amphetamine who has or had a craving for methamphetamine or cocaine."

While Lohan has never discussed what issues have sent her to rehab three previous times, she has a history of arrests for drunk driving, including one in 2007 during which police allegedly found a packet of cocaine in her pocket. "You would not want to give anyone, for any purpose, Adderall if they were known to abuse methamphetamine or cocaine. You're just setting them up for being hooked on Adderall," Breggin said.

A probation report released before Lohan went to jail revealed that one of the prescription medicines Lohan she was taking was the sleep aid Ambien. This revelation didn't surprise Breggin.

Lohan was frequently spotted drinking late into the night before her pair of DUI arrests in 2007. Breggin said that also didn't surprise him, since alcohol, like Ambien, is a sedative used to counteract stimulation.

The upshot of the alleged misdiagnosis, according to TMZ's unnamed source familiar with Lohan's treatment at UCLA, is that the former judge in Lohan's case, Marsha Revel, may have "overreacted" when she ordered the actress to serve 90 days in rehab. The site claimed that Lohan has been weaned off all the medications she was taking — which also included the serious pain medication Dilaudid, antidepressants Zoloft and Trazodone, and acid-reflux treatment Nexium — with no adverse reaction. She has also reportedly not shown symptoms of alcohol withdrawal.

With all that in mind, the new judge in the case will meet with lawyers next week to discuss a possible early release for Lohan for Lohan.

Drake And Lil Wayne: We Rank Their Top 5 Collabos!

From Young Money posse cuts to the latest 'Miss Me,' the MCs are a dynamic duo when they share a track.
By Jayson Rodriguez

Drake premiered his latest video, "Miss Me," on Thursday. After dropping his first two singles, "Over" and "Find Your Love," the Toronto lyricist decided to deliver a collaborative effort on this round, teaming up with his mentor, Lil Wayne. And as this clip shows, from mixtape offerings to Young Money posse cuts and beyond, the pair have proven adept at trading rhymes on the same track. Earlier this year, Drake even confirmed he and Weezy would work on a joint LP together.

Before that project arrives, MTV News went back through their work to present Drake and Lil Wayne's top 5 collabos thus far.

"Miss Me":
Drizzy and Weezy have undeniable chemistry on the Toronto lyricist's latest single, "Miss Me." The two get down to the science of the matter (get it, chemistry?) and depict a triumphant nod to the presence of one MC (Drake) and the graceful bowing out of another (a soon-to-be-incarcerated Lil Wayne).

"Damn, I'll be gone 'til November," Wayne spits over the horn-laden track. "But f--- it, I ain't tripping, I know Drizzy gonna kill 'em/ I'm sticking to the script like lint on denim/ Mama said if the rules ain't bent, don't bend them."

"Ignant Sh--":
Young Angel (Drake) and Young Lion (Lil Wayne) go toe to toe on this So Far Gone mixtape number, and after trading verses with each other on previous mixtape offerings like "Ransom" and "Man of the Year," Drake finally matches his mentor's otherworldly talent on this Jay-Z/ Just Blaze-jacked track from Hov's American Gangster project.

"The same n---as I ball with, I fall with, on some Southern drawl sh--," Drake raps before throwing to Wayne. "Rookie of the Year, '06, Chris Paul sh--."

"Ransom":
This record put Drake on the map, and although the pairing was uneven at the time, Wayne's eye-opening rhymes about former flame and controversial music video model Karrine Steffans put the spotlight on this number and subsequently on Drizzy, who later justified the extra attention with his breakout mixtape, So Far Gone.

"Yeah, I am headed for the buck like buck, buck again," Wayne raps over the buoyant track. "Might fly to L.A. and just f--- Karrine/Nah, f--- Karrine/ Let's get bucks again/ and f---ing spend/ Them bucks and then/ Just f--- Karrine."

"My Darling Baby":
This unreleased gem is heavy on the drums and a wailing soul sample as the Young Money duo push up on the ladies like an exercise workout, from Lil Wayne's proposal offerings to Drake's lustful boasts.

"Yeah, so sweet, she bad for me/ But she so good I'll take the cavity/ Falling for her like how safe is gravity/ I make your girl about-face and marry me, I do," Wayne raps before making way for Drake.

"But uh, the things I'm willing to do to her/ I wish I could have a threesome with two of her/ I would sing a love song if I knew the words/ But I be damned if another n---a do it first, 'cause you the one," Drake says, picking up from Weezy.

"Successful":
The pair's most (pun alert!) successful collaboration to date, with an assist from Trey Songz, this brooding So Far Gone offering showcased Drake as a peer to Wayne for the first time, as the then-upstart set the make-it-or-break-it tone of the track by anchoring the first and second verses before Wayne hung his hat on the production and closed things out.

"This Lost Boy got fly without Peter Pan/ And my delivery just got me buzzing like the pizza man," Drake raps. "In person I'm everything and more/ I'm everywhere these other niggas never been before. But inside I'm treading water, steady trying to swim to shore/ I'm on a shopping spree to get whatever is in store."

What do you think is Lil Wayne and Drake's best collaboration? Let us know in the comments!

Jim Carrey To Bring Classic 'Mr. Popper's Penguins' To Big Screen

Posted: 20 Aug 2010 04:36 AM PDT

Film will be upscale adaptation of popular children's book.
By Kara Warner

The last time Jim Carrey lit up the big screen, he did so as four different CGI characters in Disney's animated "A Christmas Carol" reboot. Now, in addition to the recently announced project "Pierre, Pierre," with "Bruno" director Larry Charles, Deadline reports that 20th Century Fox has lined up the funnyman to star in "Mr. Popper's Penguins," based on the classic children's book of the same name.

The film adaptation is said to be an upscale spin on the book, with Carrey in the role of the titular Mr. Popper, now a high-powered businessman who suddenly inherits six penguins. As Popper becomes increasingly attached to his feathered friends, his life unravels and, you guessed it, wackiness ensues. According to the script synopsis, Popper's swanky apartment turns into a winter wonderland, and he almost lands in jail.

"But thanks to his new charges," the logline reads, "Popper comes to understand the importance of family, human and otherwise."

Fans of the book, written by Richard and Florence Atwater, will note that this proposed film version is a departure from the 1938 original, in which Popper is a poor housepainter who receives the surprise gift of a penguin by mail after writing into a radio broadcast hosted by Antarctic explorer Admiral Drake. Eventually, one penguin turns into 12, and in order to support their expansive brood, the Poppers train the penguins to perform.

Perhaps Carrey can convince the filmmakers to reintroduce the painter aspect of Popper's character, given the actor's newfound passion for painting, which he has been chronicling via his Twitter account. No word on when production is scheduled to begin, but Mark Waters ("Mean Girls" and "The Spiderwick Chronicles") is set to direct.

Five Things You Need To Know About 'Piranha 3D'

Posted: 20 Aug 2010 06:57 AM PDT

The schlocky, horror/comedy flick has more than just blood and boobs galore going for it.
By Eric Ditzian

Photo: Atmosphere Entertainment

The headline of this story is a tad misleading, because there's really only one thing you need to know about "Piranha 3D:" It's utterly insane.

Inspired by the schlocky, love-it-or-hate-it franchise, the new movie spins a story about what happens when thousands of prehistoric fishies go tooth-to-flesh with thousands of college kids enjoying a sun-and-booze-filled spring break. It's not spoiling anything to say that it doesn't end well for the great majority of those slacking students. No sooner have they donned their skimpy bikinis and tapped their kegs, then the piranha strike. And strike. And strike. Blood flows, screams fly, terror reigns.

So, know that. But, of course, that's not all there is to keep in mind about the movie, which stars Elisabeth Shue, Jerry O'Connell, Jessica Szohr, Christopher Lloyd and Richard Dreyfuss. Here are five more things you need to know about "Piranha 3D."

There's Equal Opportunity Nudity
Much has been made of the film's abundant nudity. Heck, even Aja himself has been bragging about all those "3-D double-D boobs." But the men of Piranha get their fair amount of exposure, too — if not quite the same way.

"The piranha go for the one defining feature on each of us that seems to tell everything about our character," co-star Kelly Brook told us. "Jerry O'Connell's character has a pretty unsightly situation with some piranhas and parts of his anatomy that will remain unspoken about on MTV."

We'll let you guess which part of his anatomy — O'Connell's character makes his living in the adult-entertainment industry — gets chomped on.

It's an Ode to the '80s
Sure, audiences have probably never seen anything that can be called a 3-D horror/comedy popcorn flick, but listen to anyone involved with "Piranha" and you'll hear them talk as much about the cinematic past as the technological present.

"It's an ode to the '80s," Aja said."I fell in love with the script for that reason. It's like 'Dead Alive' and 'Evil Dead.' It's 'Gremlins' for adults."

It Could be the Bloodiest Movie Ever
The folks over at Guinness might want to take note: The "Piranha" filmmakers are convinced their movie is the bloodiest movie in cinematic history.

"Over 600 gallons of blood were used in this movie so far, and we're not even done," co-star Paul Scheer told us when we visited the set. "This is gonna be the most boobs and blood in any motion picture of all time."

By the time the movie wrapped production, Aja bragged, "I think blood-wise, I have to get the final number, but we are beyond anything you can even imagine."

The 3-D Doesn't Suck
Who isn't sick of unnecessary 3-D — a third dimension practically fastened on with glue and scotch tape? Here's the thing about "Piranha 3D": It looks pretty good. And that's not because they shot it with 3-D cameras (the technical challenges of shooting on and in the water were simply too great to film "Avatar"-style). Aja used a painstaking post-production conversion process, and the results are worthy of applause.

" 'Clash of the Titans' and that last-minute conversion, forget it," said Scheer. "['Piranha'] looks really rich and full."

Added O'Connell, "Alex Aja, who was our boss on this one, said, 'I'm going to make a 3-D movie and I'm going to make a really good 3-D movie. So from the get-go, all the bits, all the gags, all the drama, is designed around 3-D. So if you're a fan of 3-D, this is one you don't have to groan about."

It's Based on a True Story
What, you don't think a swarm of prehistoric piranhas ever chewed their way through a few thousand liquored-up college kids on spring break? Scheer will set you straight.

"It's based on a true story," he deadpanned.

So, um, add "biopic" to this delightful hodgepodge of genres, which include horror, comedy, date movie and nasty-marine-life-vs.-people flick.

"Richard Dreyfuss didn't even know he was shooting 'Piranha,' " laughed Scheer. "He thought he was in the new 'Jaws' movie!"

Check out everything we've got on "Piranha 3D."

Yelawolf Says Gucci Mane Made 'Wanna Party' 'Incredible'

The Trunk Muzik MC also teases 'crazy house-party' concept for upcoming video, heavy on kegs, DJs and girls.
By Steven Roberts

When Yelawolf's "Wanna Party," featuring Gucci Mane dropped, something about it made sense. Maybe it was that there were so many parallels between the rappers' careers. Gucci proudly reps East Atlanta, but he and Yela are both Alabama-born. Both have grinded for years on the underground and the two rappers aren't afraid to experiment with music. It turns out that it's no coincidence that the track just sounds right: They clicked when it came time to record the song.

"It was dope. With as many features as I've done, I have yet to work with the artist in the studio, with all of them except for Travis [Barker]," Yela said. "Actually bringing [Gucci] to the studio and getting in the booth with him on some real old-school hip-hop sh--, sharing one mic, it was dope, man. That's the best vibe to me. Being that he's from Alabama just makes it extra special."

Yela said Gucci was perfect for the record. While he has collaborated with the likes of Gucci, Big Boi and Raekwon, he said that he and his team only reached out to the artist they thought would make the best fit.

"We go get Raekwon for 'I Wish,' because we felt like Rae fit 'I Wish.' We don't reach out and go get features based on who they are, how big they are," Yela explained. "We got Gucci because Gucci is dope. We're huge fans and he made the record incredible."

He said that the two already shot a video for "Wanna Party" directed by Motion Family. It will have the same eerie vibe as his video for "Pop the Trunk." But instead of trunks popping to reveal loaded shotguns, this time it's just a sweaty, country-ass party.

"We came up with the concept like 'Let's just roll tape. Let's throw a crazy house-party and just roll tape.' And that's what we did. We called everybody we knew. Got kegs, got a bunch of beer, a bunch of DJs, some crazy white girls for the 'go white girl' line. They did go crazy by the way."

"Wanna Party" is the first single from Yelawolf's major label debut, Trunk Muzik: 0 to 60, which is set to drop September 4. Yela called the LP a continuation of his last mixtape, Trunk Muzik, with 808s, grooves and music for your trunk speakers. The album will feature five fan-favorite tracks from the tape along with seven new tracks, including "Billy Crystal Meth," produced by Jim Jonsin. Yela will also be featured in Big Boi's new video for the Andre 3000-produced "You Ain't No DJ."

Who else would you like to see Yelawolf get in the studio with? Tell us in the comments!

Exclusive: Weezer Planning <i>Blue,</i> <i>Pinkerton</i> Tour

Each city will host two shows, with each show spotlighting one of band's first two albums.

Weezer have been on quite the nostalgia kick as of late: The first single off their forthcoming album, Hurley, is a winsome slab of rock remembrance called "Memories," and earlier this week, they thrilled fans with notions of a full-blown Pinkerton tour, where they'd play the now-classic album in its entirety.

From the sound of things, they're not stopping there. On Thursday (August 19), when MTV News visited the set of the "Memories" video in Sun Valley, California, frontman Rivers Cuomo filled us in — exclusively — on the band's plans to stretch the Pinkerton tour into a two-nights-per-city affair ... one that takes fans all the way back to Weezer's humble Blue album beginnings.

"We have this really exciting idea to do a tour where we spend two nights in each city, and the first night, we play the entire Blue album, and the second night, we play the entirety of Pinkerton," Cuomo said. "We're just running it by promoters right now to see if there's sufficient interest in the markets to do something like that, and if they're on board, it's gonna happen."

And though the two-night Blinkerton tour (we just made that up right now, btw) is still just an idea, it's safe to say Weezer fans would probably be rather psyched to witness the band playing their first two albums, back-to-back. And as Cuomo pointed out, those same fans can actually help the tour become a reality.

"The fan response has been incredible so far for the idea," he said. "And, if they want to, they can contact their local promoter and tell them to make it happen."

Gentlemen (and ladies), start your e-mailing. A spokesperson for Weezer would only tell MTV News that he knew as much as the band and there's still no start date for the proposed tour. But drummer Pat Wilson echoed Cuomo's sentiments, and made it sound like this was really going to happen ... provided, of course, the math works out.

"Yeah, it would probably be a Blue/Pinkerton tour," he said. "It's an idea, we're still examining the mathematics of everything, looking at the logistics and schedules ... you know."

Jason Derulo Recalls 'Embarrassing' Ride On 'When I Was 17'

Posted: 20 Aug 2010 01:21 AM PDT

Singer talks about his car, nicknamed 'The White Jellybean,' in the episode premiering on MTV this Saturday at 11 a.m.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

Jason Derülo

Jason Derülo is riding high with two MTV Video Music Awards nominations and hit songs like "Whatcha Say" and "In My Head" under his belt. But before the Moonmen nods and chart-topping tracks, Derülo's ride was a major problem.

"Everybody else had nice cars, so my dad bought me this white Chevy. People would call it 'The White Jellybean,' " Derülo says on the episode of "When I Was 17" that premieres on MTV Saturday at 11 a.m. "[It was] very, very embarrassing."

One of Derülo's pals, Frank, remembers the rising hitmaker's vehicle failed to strike a chord with the ladies. "I know girls were not impressed by this car," Frank says.

The Florida native, who was 17 in 2006, recalls that his raggedy wheels put his chances with one lady in jeopardy.

"I can remember one time I took this girl on a date and I picked her up in this car. I could tell she was a little surprised [because] I didn't have any air conditioning. I put the windows down, like this [makes hand-cranking motion]," Derülo says. "We're good, we're flowing, we're riding." But the singer's smooth drive didn't last long.

"Suddenly I hear it go 'boom, boom, boom, boom.' I just try to keep going. We're still riding ... but I know that we got a flat tire," Derülo recalls. Trying to maintain one's cool while tooling around with a busted tire is already a challenge. And the singer was faced with an even bigger problem: "But I also know [that] I don't know how to change the tire."

"When I Was 17" airs Saturdays at 11 a.m. on MTV.

'Piranha 3D': Don't Go In The Water, By Kurt Loder

Adam Scott and Elizabeth Shue in a full-blooded fish story.

"Piranha 3D" is a genre horror film that delivers exactly what you'd expect: gushers of blood, ripped flesh by the kilo, and acres of bare booty and boobs (some of them real). But the movie has been fashioned at a surprisingly high level: The effects are top notch, the camerawork is marvelously fluid, and the 3D feels real, not like a post-production add-on (although it is). The thrills here may be traditional, but they're still actually thrilling.

The picture rips off "Jaws" with vigorous glee. In the part of the local lawman played by Roy Scheider in the 1975 classic we now have Elizabeth Shue, and Adam Scott takes the part of the science guy played in the earlier film by Richard Dreyfus. (Dreyfuss himself actually pops up here, in a very small part that requires him to be rendered into even smaller parts.)

The setting is Lake Havasu, Arizona (here called Lake Victoria), where a seismic event of some sort has opened a subaqueous crack, up through which pour a legion of primordial piranhas ("more than two million years old!" one knowledgeable character gasps). And wouldn't you know, this ominous event has occurred right in the middle of the annual spring-break invasion of drunken college boys and knockout bikini women. (There are lingering shots of the inevitable wet-t-shirt contest.)

The story is unabashedly by-the-numbers. While the college kids frolic on the lakeshore, a creep named Derrick (Jerry O'Connell) is out on the water in his cabin cruiser with local boy Jake Forester (Steven R. McQueen), son of the sheriff (Shue); nice-girl Kelly (Jessica Szohr), on whom Jake has his eye; and two bisexual babes (Kelly Brook and Riley Steele) who swim around naked beneath the glass-bottom boat so that Derek can film them for a skin flick he's making. There are also two little kids stranded on an island and wading out knee-deep to shout for help. All of this solicits the traditional audience response: "Don't go in the water!" But does anyone listen? Need you ask?

Director Alexandre Aja ("High Tension") knows there's no point in using 3D for subtle depth effects; what we really want is vicious multi-fanged piranhas shooting right off the screen and into our face. He does this with great gusto; and working with cinematographer John R. Leonetti, he's concocted some ripping subsurface scenes (beyond the pull-'em-under shots familiar from "Jaws") and some lively stunts. We expect Sheriff Forester to start running around on the beach in a panic pleading with the college kids to get out of the lake (to no avail until the water is running red with blood), and so she does. And when Derek's boat founders on some rocks with one of the girls trapped below deck, we know that somebody has to jump in the water and swim below to rescue her. We know, we know. But when the action is this slickly done, we want to see it all again, one more time.

'Nanny McPhee Returns': The Reviews Are In!

Emma Thompson's sequel charms many critics, but it's way too saccharine for others.
By Eric Ditzian

This weekend is set to be a crowded one at the cinema, as five new flicks receive the wide-release treatment. None of them — from "Piranha 3D" to "Vampires Suck" — are likely to come out on top at the box office, as "The Expendables" looks to commandeer the top spot for a second straight week.

Of all the fresh faces, though, Emma Thompson might well perform the best, as "Nanny McPhee Returns," which the 51-year-old Brit both wrote and stars in, arrives on U.S. shores more than four years after the original film. The latest installment has already grossed $62.6 million overseas.

How will it fair domestically? Reviews are largely positive, though it remains to be seen if "Nanny McPhee" can overtake the "Twilight" parody, "Vampires Suck," or the Bow Wow-starring "Lottery Ticket." Here's what the critics have to say.

The Story
"Nanny McPhee is dispatched to help a family in desperate need of order. Isabel Green (Maggie Gyllenhaal) lives with her three children on a rundown family farm in the countryside. Her husband, Rory, is fighting overseas, and poor Isabel must cope with a shiftless brother-in-law (Rhys Ifans) determined to make her sell the farm, a part-time job with a comically absent-minded shopkeeper (Maggie Smith) and the arrival of two more children: posh cousins Cyril (Eros Vlahos) and Celia (Rosie Taylor-Ritson), sent from London for safety but creating havoc as soon as they arrive." — Moira Macdonald, The Seattle Times

The Performances
"Vlahos and Asa Butterfield, as Isabel's eldest boy, have the movie's most effective scene, in which they confront Ralph Fiennes, playing Vlahos' stiff military dad, during the boys' quick trip to London to learn the fate of Butterfield's father. ... Other roles call for too much mugging. This would include Maggie Smith's turn as a forgetful old shopkeeper and Sam Kelly as an aging air-raid warden. The film suffers slightly from a curious sort of ageism, where the older you get the more 'comic' you become. In the title role, Thompson wisely lets her makeup artist do much of the initial work — the moles and hair do start to disappear as the children learn her lessons, leaving her more or less recognizable by movie's end. Meanwhile, she uses her commanding voice to bring the movie's energy to her character while standing aside to give the child protagonists plenty of room to romp." — Kirk Honeycutt, The Hollywood Reporter

The Jokes
"The movie's one other concession to modernity, besides the computer graphics, is the relentless poo-poo and flatulence jokes that have been inserted, ostensibly to make 11-year-olds scream with delight. Maggie Smith — that is, Dame Maggie Smith — playing a demented shopkeeper, plops down on a wet cow patty and announces that her seat is quite comfy. At another point, the movie leaves you with the impression that Nanny has apologized for flatulence. In retrospect, it's actually remarkable that Julie Andrews got through all 139 minutes of 'Mary Poppins' without ever passing wind." — Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle

The Dissenters
"In the disappointing sequel from Thompson and director Susanna White (the BBC's 'Bleak House'), we get a gentler, more wink-inclined Nanny McPhee, not to mention kids whose rambunctiousness seems manufactured rather than entertainingly exaggerated. ... The movie needn't be so busy, or so sweet. ... [The] plot demands and a general push for saccharinity have [McPhee] taking to the air on the bike, and being saluted by the Queen's Guard, and cheerily rocketing down a country byway. So much for skipping the spoonful of sugar." — Tom Russo, Boston Globe

The Final Word
"This sequel to 2006's 'Nanny McPhee' is almost as charming as the first. There are problems, though, in its tone, segueing awkwardly from escapism to gritty reality. Some of that is mitigated by the endearing performances and the way the story imbues its young characters with intelligence, motivation and depth, qualities often lacking for children in family films." — Claudia Puig, USA Today

Katy Perry Says She Wrote 'California Gurls' Out Of Jealousy

'I thought it would be perfect timing for a California anthem,' she says of her response to 'Empire State of Mind.'
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway

"California Gurls" came out of a very simple place: as a response to Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' massive hit "Empire State of Mind." While "Empire" was incredibly New York, with a sweeping chorus and plenty of Big Apple references, Perry's ode to her home state was glossy and shiny and featured Cali MC Snoop Dogg.

Perry said the song is just what California needed. "[California girls] are different," she said about Teenage Dream's debut single. "That's why there needed to be a song about them. I felt like there's something in the water. Like, you know the boys always dream about maybe dating a California girl, just because we've got the sun shining through 365 days a year."

According to the song, Cali not only has the sun, it also has palm trees, sun-kissed skin and girls so hot they will well melt your Popsicle. That is pretty scalding! Perry's intent was to conjure up sexy images about her beloved state.

"When I came up with the idea of 'California Gurls,' it was because I was a little bit jealous of all the love that was given to the East Coast, and I thought for sure Tupac was rolling in his grave, and the Beach Boys, Brian Wilson was totally upset ... like, 'What is up with that?' " she said.

Perry took it upon herself to do them proud. "I thought it would be perfect timing for a California anthem, and especially one from a female perspective, because there's never really ever been a female perspective about California," she said. "And everyone wondered about our little state."

Don't get Perry wrong: She means no disrespect to her East Coast counterparts. "I love New York girls," she clarified. "I think they're hot, and I think they have a lot of attitude, but I'm telling you: When it comes wintertime, they're all gonna be singing 'California Gurls.' "

We look back at the five best moments from this week's episode.
By Jim Cantiello

Sammi and Ronnie are ... Are we really still talking about this plotline? Whatever, here are our five fave moments from this week's "Jersey Shore."

#5: Jersey Gets Schooled
With September quickly approaching, the "Jersey Shore" cast had a very special message for viewers about education.

"I don't take tests," Ronnie told Sammi when she said she'd been testing his loyalty. "I hate tests. That's why I didn't go to college."

And upon meeting some cute law school students, Vinny declares, "I don't want girls studying for finals. I want girls studying for d---!"

Stay in school, kids!

#4: No White Clothing Before Labor Day?
We don't really want to touch Sammi and Snooki's conversation about the dangers of wearing white, but we would like to offer one more concern: You know what else ruins white clothes? Fake tanner.

#3: Dinner for Schmucks
Kudos to MTV producers for housing the "Jersey Shore" cast in a Rube Goldberg machine. That slapstick scene of sauces falling, milk jumping and champagne cork's flying called for a special dance remix. (Catch the results in this video.)

#2: Snooki's New Man
Snooki's boyfriend back home suuuucks. But don't feel too bad for her. We're pretty sure she's already moved on to her new man, Lotso from "Toy Story 3."

#1: She's Done
Sammi's done, you guys. And so are we!

What was your favorite moment from this week's "Jersey Shore"? Talk about it in the comments.

'Piranha 3D': The Reviews Are In!

Critics cite 'mayhem,' 'gore' in new horror flick.
By Eric Ditzian

What can a critic possibly say about a film whose director describes his creative approach thusly: "I understand why James Cameron in 'Avatar' didn't want to make the 3-D gimmicky, and he was right. But we are making a piranha-attacking-spring-break movie, so we are going to go for the huge on-the-screen effects and fish attacking the audience."

That's how Alexandre Aja explained "Piranha 3D" to us earlier this year. And his movie is either the type of cinematic experience you crave — buckets of blood, tons of silicone — or the type that you find emblematic of the unraveling of Western culture. Moviegoers in both camps should note that the film is not tracking particularly well and will be lucky to gross more than $10 million over the weekend.

Yet the "Piranha 3D" reviews have been largely positive thus far; critics seem to understand that Aja wasn't trying to make an awards-season darling (despite ). Check out what the pros are saying and decide whether or not this flick is for you.

The Story

"[T]here's a lake packed with drunk hotties in bikinis they're forever taking off. There are big piranha packs swarming. A few scientists stop by to throw in lines like 'you're not going to believe this.' A few law enforcements types scream, 'Get out of the water now.' Mayhem everywhere, enough that the fake-blood and severed-limb budget was probably the film's biggest expenditure. I'd try describing the gore, but words just can't do justice to the damage a massive Mesozoic underbite, and the occasional outboard motor, can do." — Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times

The Direction

"Alexandre Aja, who worked his remake magic with 2006's atmospheric 'The Hills Have Eyes,' gets it mainly right, assisted by a lively CG boost and a game cast that really gets into the spirit of things. ... [He] exhibits little patience for such stuff as dramatic tension and tautly coiled suspense, and there are some undeniable choppy bits— but he never loses sight of the potential fun factor laid out in Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg's script. Nor does he stint on the gore, with a terrific assist by the veteran effects duo of Greg Nicotero and Howard Berger, who truly outdo themselves with all those nibbled body parts, as well as added bite by creature designer Neville Page." — Michael Rechtshaffen, The Hollywood Reporter

The Performances

"The cast knows exactly what they're doing, and Elizabeth Shue and Adam Scott both walk away winners. Scott in particular seems to be having indecent fun striking a few action hero poses and reacting with droll alarms to the monster fish. Christopher Lloyd shows up for what is really just an extended cameo, but every line out of his mouth gets a laugh just because of the general lack of Lloyd in our lives lately. Ving Rhames doesn't have a lot to do, but he goes down swinging. O'Connell may never be able to convincingly shake off the scumbag after the enthusiastic way he and his cameraman (Paul Scheer of 'Human Giant' fame) ply their trade and earn their punishment. Even the young cast, led by Steven R. McQueen and Jessica Szohr, acquit themselves as well as possible considering how generally thin the material is." — Drew McWeeny, HitFix

The Gore

"There's no way you can talk about the film without going gore gaga over the main attack that hits during the wet t-shirt contest. I'm relatively positive that this film used more blood than any film in film history. I'm thinking elevator scene in 'The Shining' ... times 3,000. More than that though was the crazy awesome gore by [effects studio] K.N.B. There's crazy awesome make-up effects here that just don't stop. For every moment that the CG fish get on your nerves, there's six gore gags by K.N.B. that are just epic." — Harry Knowles, Ain't It Cool News

The Bottom Line

"[H]ere, in the best/worst traditions of '70s exploitation cinema, are flesh-eating fishy gore, lip-smacking nudity and lots of laugh-out-loud silliness. If you're looking for the anti-establishment message found in the John Sayles' scripted, Roger Corman-produced 'Jaws' rip-off, you will be disappointed. However, the re-make's cheesy, eye-popping 3-D effects — flayed bodies, naked breasts, vomit and a severed penis are all flung out of the screen — are an authentic, affectionate throwback to cheapo Cormanesque excess." — Nigel Floyd, Time Out London

Mariah Carey In The Running To Be 'American Idol' Judge

"American Idol" reportedly passed on Jennifer Lopez as a potential judge for its upcoming tenth season due to her extreme diva-tude. So naturally, the show's next move would be to begin courting the only star on the planet who could definitely out-diva J.Lo: Mariah Carey.

That's according to E! News, which cites a source close to the negotiations as saying that not only is "Idol" seriously considering bringing in Carey as a judge, but that Carey is definitely interested in the idea.

"[Mariah] wants it," the source said. "She's seen what 'America's Got Talent' has done for [husband Nick Cannon] and she thinks it will be a good career move."

Earlier this month, Cannon told The Hollywood Reporter that Carey "would love to do" the show, adding that if "Idol" could accommodate her schedule, she would definitely consider signing on.

The source told E! that there are still "several sticking points" that must be worked out before Carey can sign with the show, but added that Fox is optimistic that a deal can be struck. If Carey does reach an agreement, she'll join lone remaining original "Idol" judge Randy Jackson and, reportedly, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, who, according to "sources close to the singer," inked a deal with the show on Wednesday.

Of course, according to returning "Idol" executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, Lopez isn't out of the running yet, either. So, really, who knows what the judges' table will look like next season? A rep for Carey could not be reached for comment by MTV News, and a spokesperson for 19 Entertainment told us that "producers have no comment."

If Carey doesn't end up as a judge on "Idol," the remainder of 2010 is still shaping up to be a big one for her. According to an executive at her label, Island Def Jam, MC will be releasing a new Christmas album on November 2, which will reportedly feature six new songs, plus covers and a new mix of her classic "All I Want For Christmas Is You."

T.I. Discusses His Teaching Stint On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'

MC taught a class to fellow inmates called 'Self Enrichment.'

T.I. has been evasive in interviews when discussing his jail sentence for felony weapons charges, simply saying he did his time and now he's back.

But on Thursday (August 19) night, the rapper opened up a little bit more about his time behind bars during an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live." Although he cracked plenty of jokes about his experience while incarcerated, he also revealed he taught a class called "Self Enrichment" to his fellow inmates.

"In my stay there, while I was there, I just noticed that so many cats that I was around was like, 'When I get out I don't know what I'm gonna do,' " the Atlanta star said.

Tip said he subsequently went to the warden and proposed the class, which he said he hoped would "change criminal ways of thinking."

Kimmel made a few cracks, asking if attendees had to take tests.

Tip laughed, but the MC — who also mentored troubled youth as a part of his MTV series "T.I.'s Road to Redemption" — was serious about his message.

"It was moreso an open coversation and just comparing points of perception and how you look at things in life," he said.

T.I. also spoke about his forthcoming album, King Uncaged.

He confirmed that Kanye West, Young Dro, Mac Boney, and The-Dream would make the cut; recently he said that a previously discussed collaboration with Lady Gaga collaboration would be reworked, or perhaps scrapped entirely.

Since December, he's recorded over 100 songs that were contenders for inclusion on the album.
