Kelly Rowland Recalls Wrecking Cars On 'When I Was 17'

As part of the "Bootylicious" chart-topping girl group Destiny's Child, Kelly Rowland was a key member of a bona fide hit factory. But before she was cranking out global R&B and pop smashes, Rowland remembers smashing up cars as a teenager.

The singer reminisces about her bumpy ride toward learning how to drive on the latest episode of MTV's "When I Was 17." "I was a really, really bad driver," the singer admits. "As a matter of fact, I wrecked about three cars before I finally got the whole driving thing down."

Rowland, who has steered her solo career toward success by bringing her pipes to the house-music scene and teaming up with French producer David Guetta on the international 2009 hit "When Love Takes Over," has presumably mastered the art of driving since her teenage years. However, the memories of Rowland's automotive antics still haunt the singer's nearest and dearest. On Saturday's episode — which also features teenage tales from Latin pop star Enrique Iglesias and Stephanie Pratt from MTV's "The Hills" — Rowland's friends remember the R&B diva's less than smooth moves behind the wheel.

"Terrible, terrible," is how Rowland's homegirl Angie describes the singer's driving skills. "Did I say terrible? Terrible driver."

Former Destiny's Child member LeToya Luckett shudders when she thinks back to Rowland's early days in the driver's seat. "Tales of Kelly behind the wheel — Lord help us all," the "Torn" songstress chuckles.

"When I Was 17" — this week featuring Rowland, Enrique Iglesias and Stephanie Pratt — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.

Bun B and Drake are on a hot streak together, from their first collaboration "Uptown" to their most recent tracks "Put It Down" and "It's Been a Pleasure"

The UGK rapper opened for Drake earlier this month as a part of the Toronto star's OVO Fest, and while he was in town, he tried to rope in his collaborator to shoot a video. The plan didn't work out due to Drake's busy schedule, but Bun said he plans to shoot videos for their songs and as many on his album, Trill O.G., as he can.

"Definitely look for some visuals for 'Put It Down' in the future," Bun told MTV News. "As well as 'It's Been a Pleasure.' We're gonna try to put out a visual for as much of Trill O.G. as we can."

A snippet of "Put It Down" leaked onto the Web well ahead of the album's release, but now that Trill O.G.has arrived, the reaction to the Drake-assisted track has been high.

"It's very hard to live up to the hype the people create for things nowadays; luckily, this song did," he said. " 'Cause a lot of time, people build something up, and it's almost impossible to match up to that. In this case, it matched up to it. And the fact that the other song, 'It's Been a Pleasure,' is on it, as well, you get two for two. It's always a good thing when me and the young boy get together. It's special music. That's how I feel, and I think that's how Drizzy feels."

Demi Lovato Looking To Make 'More Radio-Friendly' Music

'I'm now just taking that next step,' singer tells MTV News about her upcoming album.

Demi Lovato likes to sing rock music. In fact, the Disney queen has a well-publicized love affair with all things rock and metal. But she's willing to take a leap on her next album and make music that is less rock influenced than her previous efforts. It's a natural step for Lovato as a singer with a big voice.

"I'm now just taking that next step and learning how to make my music more radio-friendly but also stay very artistic, and for me that's R&B," Lovato told MTV News last week. "I can put my vocal stylings on songs that are R&B and it showcases my vocals more than just singing really loud on a rock song."

Lovato says that while she's publicly owned up to loving rock, she's always sung R&B, too. So for her it wasn't much of a stretch, even if her audience might feel like it is. "It's really nice to embrace it," she said. "I grew up singing R&B and then I grew up listening to rock, so it was kind of weird. But I'm kind of learning how to incorporate the two and I'm having a good time with it."

Lovato may have more of a good time on the album, which she is currently working on while on tour with the Jonas Brothers, if her dream collaborations come to fruition. "I would love for Drake to be on the album," she said. "It's kind of like a pipe dream. I would also like to do a song with Trey Songz. It would be hot! Yeah, it would be really good."

Lovato named the music of Keri Hilson and Rihanna as inspirations for her upcoming album, which she's taking her time with. "It's something I want to focus on and really pour myself into it," she told DailyFill.com. "I don't want to rush it out," she explained. "I definitely feel like I'm proud of everything I put out there."

Miguel Hopes To Get On 'All I Want Is You' Partner J. Cole's Album

Fire Starter: Miguel

Miguel is bringing sex appeal and soul with his new video for "All I Want Is You." The track features J. Cole, and the new singer said he's more than willing to return the favor for the Roc Nation rapper.

"I remember talking to ['All I Want Is You' producer] Salam [Remi] and him saying, 'Just be honest,' " Miguel said about the song's lyrics. "I'm excited about it. I didn't get to be in the studio with J. Cole. I recorded the song, and Mark Pitts at Jive — who happens to be a part of J. Cole's management as well — I remember the call. It was 3 o'clock in the morning, and Mark called me like, 'Yo, it's crazy! I'mma play it for Cole.' He played it for him, and Cole said he liked it. I'm looking forward to getting on [Cole's] forthcoming album, hopefully. Maybe."

Miguel dropped Mischief: The Mixtape awhile back, and it got picked up by hip-hop blogs such as 2DopeBoyz.com. The standout record was "Sure Thing," which helped him get his record deal. "All I Want Is You" is the name of his debut album as well as his lead single and video.

"The video was really dope," he said. "The director worked with me on the treatment. It was really his concept on the treatment, but I sent him some references, and he did a really good job at putting it together and making sure it was smart, but it wasn't too smart. We wanted to have some nostalgic qualities, a hip-hop base, but still wanted to give it an edgy flair."

Miguel said he's been influenced by Prince and Queen but grew up listening to the kings of rap as well.

"The album is what I would describe as being 'eclec-tric,' " he said. "It's in tone with keeping hip-hop as a base, because that's what I grew up on, but including and infusing styles such as classic rock and funk. I think people will be excited to hear how we mix that together."

The All I Want Is You album comes out September 14.

In an interview Wednesday (August 11) with New York hip-hop station Hot 97, Kanye West played new music, gave Nicki Minaj accolades and revealed a few nuggets of news to host Angie Martinez.

The first revelation: West will put out a remix of "Power" featuring Jay-Z on Friday. He also hinted that his still-untitled upcoming LP will drop November 16, revealing a track from the album called "See Me Now," which features Beyonce and Charlie Wilson and was produced by Lex Luger, No ID and West himself. Other producers confirmed for the album are Q-Tip, Pete Rock and the RZA.

What were West's requirements for potential producers? "People with that intangible sound. People that everybody copied. The originators. That's what my thing is: quality. What is the best of the best?"

Later in the interview, Kanye said Young Money star Nicki Minaj could be one of the greatest hip-hop stars ever. "This is gonna be such a big statement, and such a big thing to fill: The scariest artist right now is definitely Nicki Minaj. I think she has the most potential to be the number-two rapper of all time. Nobody's gonna be bigger than Eminem."

When asked what being the "number-two rapper of all-time" meant, he said, "Everything! Having a whole network one day. Everything that comes with it."

He also confirmed that Nicki is on his album, as is G.O.O.D. Music artist Kid Cudi. The Louis Vuitton Don named Cudi, Drake, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne as the MCs making a major impact right now.

Fantasia Barrino was released from the hospital on Wednesday (August 11) after apparently trying to commit suicide by overdosing on medication.

The "American Idol" season-three victor was rushed to the hospital Monday after she was found in a North Carolina home. Barrino's manager, Brian Dickens, confirmed to MTV News that she was released from Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy in North Carolina after being admitted to the hospital under an alias.

"She has been lifted up by the outpouring of love and support from her fans," Dickens said in a statement to MTV News. "She is more committed than ever to her daughter and her work because they are her heart, her soul and inspiration."

The "Idol" champ shocked fans when she reportedly attempted to take her own life by ingesting a combination of aspirin and a sleep aid. Many Barrino fans have expressed their support during the past few days; however, some have blasted the singer for her alleged relationship with a married man and for almost leaving her young daughter without a mother. Although Barrino has been the subject of public criticism and is obviously experiencing setbacks in her personal life, public-relations expert Howard Bragman believes the Free Yourself singer will be able to bounce back.

"I think the number-one thing Fantasia has to do is heal. I think she has to get some psychological help, find out what brought her to this moment, and make sure it doesn't happen again ... that is number one," Bragman told MTV News. "And once that's under control, then you start to look at your projects on the horizon. You don't give yourself this timetable. But assuming she's well enough in a matter of weeks or months to promote her album or her projects, well, the reality is, we live in a very forgiving society."

It's only been a week since Taylor Swift's "Mine" hit radio, but the lead single from her new album, Speak Now, is already making a splash on the upcoming Billboard Hot 100 with a #3 debut.

According to Billboard, "Mine" makes chart history since Swift is only the second female artist in the history of the Hot 100 chart to debut multiple songs ("Mine" and "Today Was a Fairy Tale") in the top five during a one-year time frame. Mariah Carey also accomplished this feat with her hits "Fantasy" and "One Sweet Day" in 1995.

While "Mine" wasn't able to dethrone Eminem and Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie" from the #1 spot, she is on top of the Hot Digital Songs chart with 297,000 in downloads.

Swift recorded a video message thanking country radio for all the support, saying, "Konnichiwa! I just wanted to say hi to everybody, all my friends on country radio. I'm about to play for 45,000 people in Japan. Wish me luck. Thank you for the first week. I love you."

Fans will get their first glimpse of Swift performing "Mine" during a pre-recorded performance on the upcoming TV special "CMA Music Festival: Country's Night to Rock," which airs September 1. Swift's highly anticipated new album is set to hit stores October 25.

'Jersey Shore' Stars Are 'Like The Beatles' Of Seaside Heights

Late last month, Seaside Heights began to prepare for the pop-culture hurricane that is the cast of "Jersey Shore." After sunning themselves down in Miami, Snooki, the Situation and their pals headed up north to their old Jersey stomping ground, where they resumed shooting what will be season three of their hit reality show.

And as the "Shore" crew swooped into town, so did hundreds of "Shore" wannabes and GTL-obsessed hangers-on.

" 'Jersey Shore' has definitely brought a lot more people out than in previous years," said a manager at Adrenaline, a body-piercing shop on the boardwalk. "Everybody's trying to get in on the action, get into the show."

Perhaps no one has had a closer view at the cast's growing fame than Danny Merk, who owns both the T-shirt shop where the cast worked in season one and the house where they crashed. "I think it's a phenomenon," he said. "It came out of nowhere. All of a sudden the kids came here, they just worked like average kids every day, went out to the clubs at night. Now it's just nonstop. Everyone wants to see what they're doing, go to the places they went to."

As visitors check out the clubs and stores that the cast frequents, they've made sure to sheath themselves in "Shore" tribute shirts. Fans MTV News spoke with rocked shirts that read "I Love Snooki," "I Like My Boys With Muscles And Blow-Outs" and "Come At Me, Bro!"

The die-hard groupies routinely gather outside the cast's house, follow them down the boardwalk and generally just hang out hoping to catch a glimpse of their gelled-up heroes. Even Emilio Masella, Snooki's ex-boyfriend, trekked to Seaside Heights with the hope that he could patch things up with his former flame.

"I'm here trying to find her," he told us. "I still have her heart, but I'm trying to get her back."

He'll have to get in line. The "Shore" cast is pop culture royalty this summer in Seaside, and fans are paying them some serious respect.

"They actually worship them," Merk said. "It's really weird. Girls come into the store and actually start crying. They're like the Beatles."

'I don't think this is a career-breaker,' Howard Bragman tells MTV News of apparent suicide attempt.
By James Montgomery

Fantasia Barrino

In the day since former "American Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino was rushed to a North Carolina hospital after an apparent suicide attempt, reaction from her fans has been mixed. Some have expressed their support for the singer, while others have criticized her for being "selfish," given that she is the mother of a 9-year-old girl.

While that criticism might seem harsh, it's certainly par for the course, according to public-relations executive Howard Bragman, who has overseen the career rehabilitations of Isaiah Washington and Naomi Campbell. Barrino can't worry about what some of her fans might think of her right now, he said, because she has to focus on her own health. And no matter how bad things seem right now, the forgiveness will come.

But assuming she's well enough in a matter of weeks or months to promote her album or her projects, well, the reality is, we live in a very forgiving society.

"We like rehab, we like rebirth, we like reconnecting with people," he continued. "We're willing to give people a second chance if they look us in the eye and [tell us] why they're going on with their lives and why they deserve a second chance. I don't think this is a career-breaker."

Speaking of that career, Barrino will eventually have to return her focus to upcoming projects, including a second season of her VH1 reality show "Fantasia for Real" in September and a new album, Back to Me, which is due August 24. When she finally does, she needs to prepare herself for an onslaught of questions about just what happened Monday. So the best possible strategy, according to Bragman, is to be proactive about things.

"I think she's certainly going to get asked the question about what happened. And if she were my client, I would do one or two very well-orchestrated interviews, possibly a print interview, a People magazine, and then a broadcast interview ... and get it out there," he said. "And then if you're asked about it again, you say, 'You know, I've really talked about that a lot, and I feel comfortable with what I said, and I'm here to promote my album' to change the focus a little."

Bragman added that Barrino needs to take time for herself and only come back when she feels strong enough to do so. And when she does, he expects that her fans will welcome her back with open arms.

"I think we go back to talent, and I think she's got great talent, she's got great heart and great spirit, and I think we want her to succeed," he said. "I don't think she's one of those people we don't want to see do well. ... We're on her side, and I think she's going to feel the love when she goes back out there."

Last week in Chicago, Lady Gaga felt the power of Lollapalooza overtake her when she jumped onstage with her pals the Semi Precious Weapons and decided to crowd-surf.

It was a moment her "little monsters" eagerly welcomed. On Wednesday (August 11), she called in to Ryan Seacrest's radio show and explained that she hadn't planned it; she just really wanted to crowd-surf.

"I was so excited 'cause I haven't crowd-surfed in a long time 'cause no one lets me anymore," Gaga said. "It was great," she continued. "I love Semi Precious so much and they're my band ... I don't know what came over me. I just got so excited and I remember playing that stage and what it felt like and they were doing such a great job. ... I just jumped."

The Semi Precious performance isn't all that's gotten Gaga all jumpy lately. The recent overturning in California of Prop 8 banning same-sex marriage was also inspiring to her.

"I felt like it was a revolution, a gunshot went off. It was so exciting when it happened. For me, it was a moment that indicates it can happen in every state now," she said. Gaga was so excited by the ruling that she decided to pen more music.

"I was so happy, and I went right into the studio and I kept writing," she said. "[My album] kind of is done, but I can't stop writing music. I don't know what I'm going to do. I might have to put out two records."

Gaga didn't spill too many beans about the next album but noted that she already had a thesis of sorts for it.

"I never stop writing, so even when my album's done, I'm always working," she explained. "When I put this album together, I wanted to write the album in an innovative way. I want the message to be innovative. I already have the sonic ideas and the message ideas. ... I basically asked friends of mine to produce the record with me, and we're called the banditos."

G-Unit member Lloyd Banks has a new contract. After months of speculation about where his upcoming LP, The Hunger For More 2, would be released, 50 Cent has secured a new distribution deal for the Punch Line King. Banks will announce his new home Friday at 1 p.m. ET on "RapFix Live."

Of course, Banks is still signed to G-Unit, but since the release of his 2006 LP, Rotten Apple, fulfilled his contractual obligation to Interscope, the Southside, Queens, native has been operating as an independent artist.

Banks has kept up his profile and his musical releases, dropping the G-Unit album T.O.S. (Terminate On Sight), in 2008, and a myriad of mixtapes, including 2009's V.5. Banks had a radio and club hit with the Juelz Santana-assisted "Beamer, Benz or Bentley" this spring and he recently completed production on a new single featuring singer Lloyd, titled "Any Girl." Meanwhile, Banks has been steadily working on the sequel to his 2004 multiplatinum fan favorite, The Hunger For More.

"It takes people back," he said about putting out sequel LPs. "Especially with Twitter and stuff like that, you talk directly to your fans and they'll tell you what they want to hear. They want that old thing back. Not as far as the music, but the drive. Fans want to see you excited about hip-hop."

Banks said that during a talk with 50 Cent, the Unit's general told him that HFM2 has to be a timeless project.

"He said, 'You know what you gotta do. You got to make a part two to that record and make another classic,' " Banks recalled.

The G-Unit's new distribution deal will just be for Banks and Tony Yayo. 50 still has one more record he owes under the terms of his Shady/Aftermath contract at Interscope.

In addition to tuning in to hear the MC's HFM2 announcement, fans can tweet @MTVNews with the hashtag #rapfixlive and Sway will sift through questions to ask Banks during their chat. Viewers can also upload questions to Your.MTV.com.

Snooki 'Too Good-Looking' For Jail, John McCain Agrees

"Jersey Shore" party girl Snooki responded to her recent arrest by declaring that she's "too pretty" to be thrown in jail. And it appears that at least one politician has her back.

In an interview with Phoenix radio station KMLE Country 108, Senator John McCain agreed with Snooki's claims that she's too much of a looker to be thrown in the slammer. On Wednesday (August 11), the onetime presidential hopeful posed a question to KMLE listeners: "Is Snooki too good-looking to go to jail or not?" McCain inquired. "She ... has given a whole new meaning to our justice system, you gotta admit. I'm kinda leaning towards Snooki being too good-looking."

The politician said he's been looking out for the reality starlet, named Nicole Polizzi, ever since they bonded during a Twitter exchange blasting President Obama's taxes on tanning.

"Now, I've been worried about what's going on with her, of course, since I have this attachment," McCain said.

Although she has the senator's attention, Snooki's club-hopping antics haven't hit the radar of the commander in chief. During a July visit to the ladies of ABC's "The View," Obama conceded that while he knows about Justin Bieber, he has no idea who Snooki is.

The starlet recently said she doesn't believe the president isn't getting his weekly "Jersey Shore" fix.

"I know he knows who I am," Snooki told E! Online. "Why did he have to lie and say he didn't know me? He did [mention] Snooki and JWoww about the tanning stuff, and now he doesn't know who I am? He has to stop lying."

Although there's no word on whether an Obama/Snooki beer summit will hit the president's calendar anytime soon, Snooks has a message for a politician who's definitely aware of the GTL-ing crew. In response to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's claims that the "Shore" collective puts the Garden State in a bad light, Snooki advised the governor to just relax.

"He needs to come over and have a hot dog and a Corona and just chill," she said.

Do you agree with McCain and Snooki that she is "too pretty" for jail? Do you think Obama is lying about not knowing who Snickers is? Let us know in the comments below!

Rapper reveals production will start in November, dreams of future biopic.

Are the "Teen of the South" and the "chairman" of TeenNick joining forces? Soulja Boy Tell'em said he's set to begin shooting a film written by TV star Nick Cannon this fall.

"Me and Nick Cannon have been talking back and forth for, like, the last year about a movie idea," SB told MTV News. "I did a movie with him earlier this year with Justin Bieber ['School Gyrls'], and it went straight to Nickelodeon. It was a good movie, but it was mostly for kids. We were talking back and forth, and he wants me to star in a movie that he wrote when he was, like, 17."

According to the "Pretty Boy Swag" rapper, production will begin in November.

He was hush on additional details, but the 20-year-old star said he hopes his first foray into Hollywood isn't a one-stop trip: He eventually wants to shoot a biopic.

"I want people to know my story," he said. "Because a lot of people know Soulja Boy and know my songs, but a lot of people don't know where I'm from or where I came from, how I did it.

"A lot of people do know," he continued, "but a movie would paint the picture so much better. I wanna do a movie that's my story, my legacy; what got me here and why I'm still here."

In the meantime, SB is putting the finishing touches on his next album, The DeAndre Way, which is slated for a fall release. His next single, "Speakers Going Hammer," was produced by Drake collaborator Boi-1da.

"Basically, it's all about the sound of the music," SB told MTV News about the track. "I got bars on this one. First verse, second verse, all bars — another anthem, as far as the hook. The hook is catchy. The video is gonna match the song perfect. And it's another hit."

With the re-release of the biggest film in movie history quickly approaching ("Avatar" hits theaters again in 3-D and 3-D IMAX on August 27), fans and critics alike are speculating what impact director James Cameron's nine extra minutes of footage will have on the overall story. When MTV News caught up with Cameron last week, we asked him whether the extra footage might contain the infamous Na'vi sex scene between Neytiri and Jake.

"You mean the alien kink scene?" he joked. "It's been restored, every last frame of it. Seriously," he said, adding that the scene in question won't break any records — it lasts all of about 20 seconds.

"I would say, just so that we correctly manage people's expectations," he explained carefully, "it does not change our rating at all. I would call it more of an alien foreplay scene. It's not like they're ripping their clothes off and going at it."

Whether 20 seconds or 100, the buzz around the scene in question has been intense, and the media coverage even more extensive. The film's star, Sam Worthington, told MTV News last month that the famed scene is "unique," and, judging by the descriptions from Cameron's actual script, which was briefly posted online, unique is certainly the appropriate term.

"The tendrils intertwine with gentle undulations," one line reads. The shared experience is described as "the ultimate intimacy." "They come together into a kiss and sink down on the bed of moss, and ripples of light spread out around them."

When it comes to M.I.A., we expect a certain degree of controversy. After all, the singer is no stranger to releasing songs and videos packaged with a message. So when her "XXXO" video hit the Net on Wednesday (August 11), we were understandably surprised.

The Hype Williams-directed clip for "XXXO," which, as the title implies, is about being in love (although not necessarily happily), is a marked departure from her "Born Free" video. While "Born Free" set off a firestorm of criticism for its violence, "XXXO" is much tamer in nature and much more hypnotic in style.

M.I.A. is front and center in the video, which has an '80s feel and relies heavily on graphics of hearts and flowers. In fact, the video appears to put M.I.A. inside a digital greeting card — although her look in the video is much more seductive, as she wears her hair loose and wavy and packs on the thick red lipstick. Of course, the video is not completely without political symbolism. The artist, who previously showed her support for the Tamil Tigers with her song "Paper Planes," also features two tigers.

While the video for "XXXO" only premiered Wednesday, M.I.A.'s fans are likely already familiar with the song. A remix of the song featuring Jay-Z was released back in June, and the artist herself put out the original track (along with the rest of her album) on her MySpace page in July.

Wolfgang Gartner Reveals Collabo With Deadmau5, More To Come

Is electro-house producer Wolfgang Gartner up next for a Deadmau5-like surge in popularity?

Well, consider this: Gartner's newest single with British house-music producer Mark Knight, "Conscindo," held the #1 spot on Beatport's dance-music charts for two weeks in July, and in the past two years, he's had eight other tracks make it to the top, including Beatport's best-selling track of 2009, "Wolfgang's 5th Symphony."

Then there's his awards nominations: He was nominated in the DJ Awards' Best Newcomer category and also made the top-100 list for America's Best DJ. Voting is under way for both.

Gartner has remixed everyone from Britney Spears to Timbaland and Black Eyed Peas and is currently working with Tiësto, Will.I.Am and Kaskade on separate forthcoming releases. His most recent accolade is his conquering of the dance stage at Lollapalooza last weekend, where he also rocked the Undocumented afterparty at Vision Nightclub in Chicago.

"In one word: amazing," Gartner told MTV News on Wednesday (August 11) of his Lollapalooza experience. "And, to be honest, the most fun I've ever had playing in Chicago. [The afterparty] with Felix Cartal and JFK from MSTRKRFT, who are both under the same management as me, was kinda like a family-type vibe. A lot of friends were there, and I also love hearing those guys play, so it was cool in so many ways."

When describing his newest #1 single, "Conscindo," Gartner said the collaboration was fun, but not easy. "It was a bit of a pain in the ass for Mark Knight, because he had to fly out to my studio in Austin [Texas] to work on it a multiple of times, so I felt bad for him!" he said. "Collaborations are a weird thing for me. I never really realize what we have until a couple weeks after it's over, the track has been sitting around for a while, and then it's like I suddenly have perspective on it and hear it for what it really is. When that moment came for 'Conscindo,' I knew exactly what we had on our hands. It sat at #1 on Beatport for about two weeks, so now we're kicking around the idea of turning it into a vocal track and going for round two with it."

At age 11, Gartner was inspired to begin making music after hearing a mixtape by Detroit techno producer Kevin Saunderson. Gartner said he would lock himself in his room and produce songs on drum machines and keyboards. A few years later, he got decks and a mixer and began spinning at underground parties and nightclubs.

Earlier this summer, Gartner told MTV News about his musical style and how he got started. "It's basically electro-house," he said about the type of dance music he produces. "But I kind of go through all different forms of house music, because that's what I was brought up on. Beyond that, I've got influences from rock and disco and all over the place put together in a dance format. I'm just trying to push boundaries and be forward-thinking.

"When I [first] got into it, I was more on the production end of things," he added. "I just wanted to make this music and listen to it. But then I started realizing this whole other side to it — the DJ side — and I wanted to be a part of that too and learn how to DJ. It kind of organically happened that way."

His newest release, "Undertaker," is a dark and sinister house anthem that sounds like an homage to Deamau5's hit "Ghosts n' Stuff," so it's only fitting that Gartner had some exciting news to share with us: "I just did a track with Deadmau5 that should be out in the next couple of months, which I'm really happy with. It was a really fun one. And there are a couple other collaborations that aren't done yet, so I shouldn't mention them just in case, ya know, they never get finished!"

Wolfgang Gartner is headlining Control at Avalon Nightclub in Hollywood on Friday and is scheduled to play the Electric Zoo festival in New York on Labor Day weekend.

Snooki Calls 'Jersey Shore' Castmate Angelina 'Sad'

'She didn't really open up to anybody,' Snooki says of why her housemate never fit in.

Early on in season one of "Jersey Shore," feisty Angelina got axed from her job at the boardwalk T-shirt shop, tossed her belongings in some trash bags and fled Seaside Heights. None of her castmates expected the self-declared Kim Kardashian of Staten Island to return for the new, Miami Beach-based season, but Snooki, the Situation and the rest of the crew got a serious shock when they arrived and found out they'd once again be bunking with Angelina.

They were not pleased. "I just feel like she didn't fit into the family," Snooki told MTV News. "When I saw her in the house, when I walked into Miami, I was like, 'What is this girl doing here? Why are you here? We could have brought [Deena] in.' "

That would be Deena Nicole Cortese, a 23-year-old pal of Snooki's who joined the show after the cast left Miami and headed back up to the Shore. "I'm different because I'm just a personable person," Deena told us. "I don't take things to heart. People can make fun of me 'til the day I die, and I will just take it in and be like, 'Yeah, you know what? Whatever.' "

But when the show was taping down South, it was just Angelina facing off against her other roommates. And the results weren't pretty, as the first few episodes of the second season make clear. JWoww threatened multiple times to brawl with her, and Snooki declared, "You're a f---ing white rat and you're f---ing pale and you're nasty."

OK, then. The bottom line is that, after the drama of season one and some alleged off-camera smack talk, the relationship between Angelina and the rest of the "Shore" folks was nearly beyond repair.

"Angelina, she just didn't fit in with anybody, and she didn't really open up to anybody," Snooki said. "I feel that's why nobody could really connect with her. And it's sad. ... At first, we didn't even want to look at her or give her the time of day. But then we felt bad about it, and we gave her a second chance. And she did what she did with it. You're going to have to see what happens."

Do you think the rest of the cast gave Angelina a chance? Sound off in the comments.

Don't miss "Jersey Shore" every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

The new magazine Fearless launches this month by answering Vanity Fair's "New Hollywood" issue with its "Fearless Class of 2010."

While Vanity Fair was criticized for featuring only white actresses on the cover, Fearless showcases women of color. Getting the front-page stamp for the mag's maiden voyage are Tia Mowry, Naturi Naughton, Monique Coleman, Jennifer Freeman, Kyla Pratt, Tiffany Hines, Chyna Layne and Lauren London.

London, who has a child with Lil Wayne, revealed that she will star in the VH1 movie "Single Ladies," which Queen Latifah is spearheading, and she also explained her spirituality. "I'm always a fighter. With God, no person can stop you," she told the mag.

Meanwhile, Mowry, who stars in the "The Game," said she lives her life like the name of the magazine. "Success comes with risk," she said. "Being fearless is important."

"The idea to put a group of young women on the cover was thought of long before the year's Vanity Fair controversy, but after it happened, our Editorial Board thought it was a great opportunity to celebrate women of color who are actresses in Young Hollywood," said Arian Simone, the magazine's editorial director.

Simone, who says she wanted to give women of all minorities a major platform, described the "Fearless woman" as fashion-forward, free-spirited and forever fun.

Actor Lance Cross, the movie "Takers" and athletes Andre Verto and Dwight Freeny are also featured in the issue.

Young Jeezy Made 'Jizzle' 'For My Fans'

Young Jeezy is set to release TM103 in September, and while the Atlanta rapper said he plans to step out of his usual box on the LP, for the first official single, "Jizzle," he kept to his comfort zone.

" 'Jizzle' was my formula," Jeezy told MTV News about the Lil Jon-featured track. "It's like the music that I wanna hear when I'm in the club. I did that for my fans, before I even step out of my box, which I will for this album, as far as singles I wanted to do what I do. What comes to heart to me. And when I hear that [song], that's Jeezy, that's 'Jizzle.' Lil Jon was just the extra spice to give it a little different feel so it wouldn't just be a Jeezy record.

Jeezy is scheduled to deliver at least one mixtape before his album arrives: 1,000 Grams, Vol. 1, with DJ Scream, will drop online on Thursday. The first track from that collection, "Death B4 Dishonor," arrived earlier this week and led to speculation the rapper was attacking labelmate Rick Ross in rhyme.

On the song, Jeezy appears to be taking offense at Ross' single "(B.M.F.) Blowin' Money Fast," on which the Miami rapper shouts out a notorious criminal organization that Jeezy has had some association with. While the lyrics appear to be directed at Ross, Jeezy spoke to MTV News on Tuesday and refuted the rumblings.

"It's not a dis," Jizzle told us. "First of all, I'm not gonna get nothing out of dissing that guy. That's one. What am I gonna get out of dissing him? I think sometimes people can read into things too deep. They trippin', man. They crazy out there. Basically, if homie takes that as a dis, he's insecure."

Demi Lovato Reveals Her Tour Wardrobe Inspiration: Rihanna

Posted: 11 Aug 2010 03:07 AM PDT

'I'm a huge Rihanna fan and I also love spikes and anything leather,' Lovato says of her tour attire.
By Jocelyn Vena

Demi Lovato is currently on the road with the Jonas Brothers for their "Camp Rock 2" tour, and she has one killer wardrobe, complete with bedazzled boots, lots of funky jewelry and cool, little dresses. So Lovato, who has admitted to shopping on tour, was a bit nervous when she gave MTV News a behind-the-scenes look at her outfits.

Lovato said that in the weeks leading up to the trek, she really had to focus and nail down the looks she wanted for her performances, which would include sets of her singing her own tunes as well as tunes from the "Camp Rock" movies. That means she needed looks that were both Lovato and Mitchie, her character from the movies. "When it comes to picking out outfits for the tour, I had a rack that filled out an entire warehouse," she shared. "I just went through it and it took me like six, seven hours to fit all the outfits for the tour. It was fun!"

One of those looks is an edgy black and feather dress that screamed Lady Gaga. "It's a dress and I've never really performed my own set in a dress before," she shared at a rehearsal days before the tour kicked off last week. "So I'm excited."

Another look was a sparkly teal dress that included some sky-high heels. "This is for one of the 'Camp Rock' looks that I sing the duet ['Wouldn't Change a Thing' with Joe Jonas] in, and here are the crazy shoes also," she said. "I mean they're not crazy like Lady Gaga, but for me they are. I've never performed in stilettos, so we'll see how this goes."

Lovato also shows off a multicolored dress with a little bronze jacket that suits her "Camp Rock" alternate persona perfectly. "Here's another 'Camp Rock,' dress. Not something I would typically wear, but my character would," she explained.

So, what inspires Lovato's fashion choices for the show? "I feel like it's more Rihanna than Lady Gaga. I'm a huge Rihanna fan and I also love spikes and anything leather," she said, before showing off some heavy metal jewelry. "And I have this crazy jewelry. Actually this one [ring] is pretty crazy [with all its spikes], and the bracelets have twice as many spikes. Overall, I guess you can say there's a ton of spikes in my wardrobe."
