After reports surfaced on Friday (October 14) that Rick Ross suffered from a seizure that rendered him unconscious, MTV News has learned that the Bawse is OK. The Teflon Don even sent out a message via Twitter downplaying the incident.

TMZ broke the news on Friday, reporting that at 12:55 p.m. ET, Rozay — who was traveling from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Memphis to perform a show — fell unconscious just after his plane took off.

According to the site, the plane had to make an emergency landing while a doctor onboard administered CPR. Several members of Ross' Maybach Music Group camp have confirmed with MTV News that Rozay is doing better now. None would confirm that the rapper had suffered a seizure, however, saying only that he was "good."

Wale, who is signed to Ross' label, took to Twitter to end online speculation that Rozay may not pull through, even getting in a bit of promotion for the Miami MC's upcoming God Forgives, I Don't LP.

"I just talked to Ross...he's 100 pct ok...@tmz #dontpanic #dontpanic #mmg !!!! #gfid dec 13th!," he wrote.

Ross DJ Sam Sneaker also hit Twitter, writing, "I'm wit @rickyrozay now he good."

MMG's videographer SpiffTvFilms also weighed in with a tweet: "Just Got Off The Phone With My Brother @rickyrozay He's Good Don't Believe The Hype #Godforgivesidont Dec 13Th."

In response to Rap Radar founder's Elliott Wilson's tweet pleading, "@rickyrozay Don't scare a n---a like that. Thanks," Ross himself fired back "@elliottwilson never dat homie..we ouchea #mmg powercircle!!!!"

At press time, MTV News had not heard back from representatives at Def Jam Records, where Ross is signed as an artist.

Toronto MC tells MTV News he'll perform brand-new Nicki Minaj duet 'Make Me Proud' on Saturday; teases a 'special guest.'

Drake only burst onto the scene in 2009, but in those two years there isn't too much that the Toronto MC hasn't done. By tomorrow night, Drizzy can cross a "Saturday Night Live" appearance off of his list of accomplishments because, for the first time, the Young Money soldier will appear on the show as the musical guest alongside host Anna Faris.

"It's crazy places that rap music can take you and doors that can open up off of the things that we've worked on all these years," Drake told MTV News after "SNL" show rehearsals on Thursday in New York. "It's so crazy being here today with the same band that I've been rolling with — all guys from Toronto. This is crazy, man, this is crazy. It's an honor for sure."

During his musical set, Drake will perform songs from his November 15 album Take Care, including his newly released "Make Me Proud," which features Nicki Minaj. Although Drake wouldn't confirm whether Nicki will appear with him on Saturday, he did promise a "larger-than-life" performance.

"One thing that I do notice is not too many people bring atmosphere change [as 'SNL' musical guests], so I really pushed to change the station into something different and I think I did a great job of that," he said. "I just hope that visually and sonically, it's a superior performance."

While things weren't completely finalized when we caught up with the former "Degrassi" star, he said he also hoped to be able to get some acting in: "I think that I'm gonna be involved in the actual skits."

Nelly Says He's Still Hip-Hop, Despite Crossover Success

'I think you'd be an idiot to not do what works for you,' Nelly tells MTV News of making hit records.
By Rob Markman

Nelly
Photo: MTV News

When Nelly first stepped on the scene in 2000, he was hip-hop to the core. There was no denying the street appeal the multiplatinum hitmaker displayed in his debut "Country Grammar" video wearing an oversize baseball cap, baggy jeans and backward football jersey.

The St. Louis standout has exhibited a ton of growth in his 11-year career, and while his 2010 single "Just a Dream" shot to #1 on Billboard's pop charts, it didn't do much to bolster his hard-core rap cred -- and that's OK. Nelly is still in tune with his rap roots. He even presented LL Cool J with his I Am Hip Hop Icon Award at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards.

"At the end of the day, I am urban, so you can't run from that fact," Nelly told MTV News as he walked the black carpet for the awards show. "At the end of the day, it's another successful brother, stepping and breaking ground for the next brother to come along and do it."

The rhythmic "Just a Dream" was produced by Jim Jonsin and Rico Love, the same team that handled Kelly Rowland's R&B hit "Motivation." Still, it isn't a different formula than the one used on his Patti LaBelle-sampled hit "Dilemma" in 2002. Nelly has always stretched the boundaries of hip-hop, maybe most exemplified on his country duet "Over and Over" with Tim McGraw. The hip-hop star didn't reveal which musical direction he'd be going with his upcoming, yet-untitled seventh album, but it's safe to assume he'll do as he always has. Nelly is willing to let the chips fall where they may.

"You do what works for you," he said. "I think you'd be an idiot to not do what works for you. They don't want me to be smart about it? They wanna see another dumb brother not succeeding because he tried to do something that wasn't smart? That's what they say about us: We don't think first. Well, this brother thinking first. I plan on being here."

What are you expecting from Nelly's new music? Let us know in the comments!

'X-Men' Writers Land 'Top Gun' Sequel Gig

Just about one year ago, Tony Scott sent his "Top Gun" fans into a frenzy over the news that a sequel is not only planned, but Scott will take the directorial reins on the project. There has been little forward movement since then, but now we have word that "X-Men: First Class" writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz have been hired to helm the script.

According to Variety, Miller and Stentz are in final negotiations to get to work on the screenplay, with Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison signed on to produce.

The trade publication claimed that there are no plot details to reveal yet, but we're hoping the "First Class" writing duo sticks with the outline Scott shared with us last year.

"It's not even a reinvention, it's not even a sequel. It's a re-thinking," Scott said of his plans for the sequel. "What inspired me is that the world today is great, it's so different from the world we touched originally. It's really run by guys sitting in Nevada on computers playing war games."

Scott teased that the film will focus on the new generation of fighter pilots. "It's a mixture of that, and it's the end of the generation of fighter pilots. Not in a complete end to the generation, because these guys they go up in F-35s and they carry 10 drones with them. [But] it's a very different movie," he said.

But the most pressing question on everyone's minds is: Will Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer reprise their iconic roles?

"I'm gonna withhold that information," Scott told MTV News. "I can't say anything. I'm talking with Jerry [Bruckheimer], and I'm going to withhold [those other details]."

Occupy Wall Street Cleanup Delayed, What Next?

Young demonstrators in Zuccotti Park tells MTV News they 'can't easily be thrown out of this space.'
By Joel Hanek

NEW YORK — On a damp Friday morning (October 14), thousands of protesters assembled in the city's Zuccotti Park let out cheers of elation and relief. They had been facing what seemed to be an imminent confrontation with the New York Police Department after Mayor Michael Bloomberg visited the park on Wednesday evening and announced that a crew would move in to clean the area forcing the temporary eviction of demonstrators.

While Occupiers were prepared to resist the mandatory evacuation, in the end, the private company that owns the park decided at the 11th hour to postpone any cleaning efforts. MTV News was on site at Occupy Wall Street in the early dawn hours tracking all of the events as they went down.

At about 6 a.m. ET on Friday, organizers conducted a special general assembly of the Occupy Wall Street movement, informing the crowd that committed supporters who chose to stay in the park once the cleaners turned up would likely face arrest by the NYPD. But then, with minutes to go before the expected standoff, an organizer reported that were was "breaking news."

She went on to read a statement off of her iPhone, announced to the crowd, "I have an announcement from Brookfield Properties. I'd like to read a brief statement from Deputy Mayor Halloway: 'Late last night we received notice from the owners of Zuccotti Park, Brookfield Properties, that they are postponing their cleaning.' "

Supporters erupted into cheers and used designated Occupy sign language to express their approval. Soon, they were chanting "The people united / Will never be defeated."

Aaron Khandros, a student at Connecticut's Wesleyan University, had traveled to New York City to show his support, knowing well that he might face arrest if he refused to leave the park. "We came out here because we thought that people were going to come out here and try and shut it down, that Bloomberg was using this cleaning thing as an excuse," he explained. "This seemed like one of our last chances to express our solidarity with this crowd, so we came as quickly as we could."

Emma Francis-Snyder, an organizer with the Occupy Wall Street outreach program, had been on site since 4 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. Exhausted (but also rather thrilled) by the events of the previous 48 hours, she explained how the group had spent an anxious night.

"We've relocated a bunch of our materials to a storage space because we weren't sure what was going to happen," Francis-Snyder said, citing the experiences of Occupy Denver and Occupy Austin, where movements had been shut down under the pretext of sanitation.

In a bid to be proactive, the Wall Street occupiers decided to clean the park themselves. "There was a lot of stress throughout the night just trying to clean," Francis-Snyder said hours before the postponement was announced. "There were people working endlessly, tirelessly, trying to gather all of our belongings; trying to figure out what to do with them, where to go. It is what it is — whatever's going to happen, is going to happen."

Although they had prepared for the worst, some demonstrators said the final outcome was not unexpected.

"I think I was in shock. I wasn't entirely surprised because if you come out here, there are at least maybe 2,000 people out here, and I think that the Mayor knows that the whole world is watching," Senia Barragan, an organizer with Occupy Wall Street's press committee, told MTV News. "And they know that we're a serious movement that can't easily be thrown out of this space.

NEW YORKTaylor Swift took over Manhattan on Thursday for the launch of her first-ever perfume, Wonderstruck.

In addition to a number of television appearances, the singer also made an appearance at Macy's to introduce the world to her fragrance. Like Swift, the perfume is sweet and sparkling. And her devoted fans swarmed the famed New York department store to buy a bottle as well as to try to meet and greet the star, who arrived at the event in a sequined dress befitting of Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast at Tiffany's."

"You know, for me, the feeling of being wonderstruck, it's an excitement of something new," she told MTV News at the event while hordes of screaming fans shouted. "And lately, for me, that's been being on tour and having all special guests come out and doing performances and surprising the audience. That's been one of my favorite things of the entire year."

Swift is, of course, referring to the duets she's been doing during her Speak Now tour. So far, she's shared the stage with everyone from Nicki Minaj to Hayley Williams to Justin Bieber, not allowing genre to define her as she performs alongside her pals.

While these days she's been inspired by her live performances, it was one of her own songs that influenced the name she chose for the perfume. "I wrote the lyric, 'I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home' for the song 'Enchanted,' about the first time you meet someone," she said. "A fragrance can help shape someone's first impression and memory of you, and it's exciting to think that Wonderstruck will play a role in creating some of those memories."

'The Thing': The Reviews Are In!

Posted: 14 Oct 2011 12:57 AM PDT

How does the 2011 'Thing' stack up against the '82 original?
By Kara Warner

The subject of film remakes and reboots has become a sensitive one. With two variations on that theme opening at the box office this weekend, "Footloose" and "The Thing," respectively, there are very defined, conflicting opinions on Hollywood's continued obsession with churning out new takes on old classics.

With regard to "The Thing," a prequel to John Carpenter's '82 film, the critical conversation is especially opinionated, given the fact that the horror community takes its films very seriously and that the original is so beloved by fans. Some critics were satisfied and entertained by Dutch filmmaker Matthijs van Heijningen's take on the film, along with the performances by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton and Ulrich Thomsen; some were not.

Without further ado, let's dig into the fleshy meat of "The Thing" reviews!

The Story
"For this prequel, first time feature director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. puts a female (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) at the center of the fray, flanks her with several male members (pun intended) of a Norwegian scientific team, throws a phallic, mouthy monster into her path, adds and touch of paranoia, and presto! It's a scary movie set in a place where hell actually does freeze over. It's no secret that The Thing 2011 leaves off exactly where the 1982 version picks up and it's a nice touch that Ennio Morricone end credits song — Humanity (Part II) — is used to complement Marco Beltrami's score." — Staci Layne Wilson, Horror.com

The Performances
"While this 'Thing' features a low-impact cast full of unknown Norwegians, Winstead (Kate) makes an appealing star, ably supported by Joel Edgerton in the pseudo-Kurt Russell role of a tough-guy helicopter pilot. (His ass-kicking sidekick is played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, otherwise known as 'the black guy who doesn't get killed first.') Thomsen is in fine form as the unctuous and untrustworthy scientist who may doom the entire world to being chewed up and eaten, and Jørgen Langhelle is terrific as a gruff Norse workman who sides with Kate although he speaks no English." — Andrew O'Hehir, Slate

The Prequel Vs. the Original
"This 'Thing,' shot largely in northern British Columbia, engaged me more than Carpenter's. That's not to say it can hold a candle to the superb 1951 'The Thing From Another World,' directed by Christian Nyby. That film is a marvel of indirection, of ensemble camaraderie in the face of the Cold War-era unknown. Compared with that picture, this new one's just an entertaining, well-acted oozefest. All three 'Things,' along with everything from 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' to 'Alien,' owe their central ideas to the Depression-era story 'Who Goes There?' by John W. Campbell Jr. There's a rock-solid notion in that tale, that of an alien being able to take over a human body and cause pure paranoia in the populace. Who's real and who isn't? Why does so-and-so seem a little off today? And why is my dog looking at me funny? While I wish van Heijningen's 'Thing' weren't quite so in lust with the '82 model, it works because it respects that basic premise. And it exhibits a little patience, doling out its ickiest, nastiest moments in ways that make them stick." — Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune

The Scream/FX Factor
"Van Heijningen trades methodically established tensions for cheap, easy horror jolts, swapping the paranoia and distrust of Carpenter's version for simplistic rage and aggression. Where Carpenter carefully sliced into our deepest fears with the precision of a surgeon, Van Heijningen bluntly hacks away at our nervous systems like a maniac wielding a chain saw. Newcomers who rent Carpenter's film to see where Van Heijningen's story begins — or, continues — might be surprised by the reliance on organic horror makeup, stop-motion animation and creature compositions. Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Stan Winston ('Aliens,' 'Jurassic Park') reportedly worked on Carpenter's spectacularly gory dog creature, a triumph of horror wizardry. Alas, Van Heijningen replaces those tangible and imaginative alien inventions with shiny, empty digital effects — yet another miscalculation that undermines this 'Thing' prequel." - Sean O'Connell, Washington Post

The Final Word, Pro-Con-Pro Style
"It may not be as novel as the Carpenter original and ultimately, not as memorable, but Van Heijningen does a fine job recreating the look and tone of Carpenter's film, and there's enough alien-infested craziness to keep this prequel entertaining." — Edward Douglas, ShockTillYouDrop.com

"Nothing can save The Thing from itself. Bigger and louder is not scarier nor better, it's just more annoying. The Thing is too big for its britches and bites off more than it can chew. Everything that was great about the 1982 version (it was a small, claustrophobic film with strong characters and awesome special effects) is ignored in this 2011 crap that's nothing more than a boring CGI promo-reel. Do not waste a second watching this; instead go pop Carpenter's version back into your VHS/DVD/Blu-ray player and revisit one of the greatest horror films of all-time." — Brad Miska, Bloody-Disgusting.com

"This new take on THE THING is a gripping bit of horror entertainment that should excite audiences for its October release. In fact, it may inspire those who haven't seen the 1982 version to make it a double feature of sorts. Either way, this is a well cast, atmospheric piece that rates a hell of a lot better than some of the previous Carpenter remakes... I'm talking to you THE FOG. Stay for the end credits if you really want to get yourself in the mood for JOHN CARPENTER'S THE THING afterward." — Jimmy O, JoBlo

Lady Gaga Spotted On 'Marry The Night' Set In NYC

Lady Gaga is keeping the wedding reception going for a little bit longer. The singer has once again been spotted in New York filming scenes for her "Marry the Night" video.

In footage posted online, Gaga dances on the roof of a car as she sings the bridge from the song. She then slides down the car and begins rolling around on the hood as the chorus kicks in. She's dressed in black, with a blond bob wig and black heels. It's visibly raining out as she shoots, but in the footage she appears unfazed by the weather.

In some photos posted on Hypable, the singer is sporting a very goth look, including a black bra top, hot pants and over-the-knee boots.

A photo posted on Aceshowbiz.com is reportedly from a set-up in Harlem earlier in the day on Thursday. In it, the star wears bright blue lipstick and a leather romper. The website reports that at the Harlem shoot she performed with male dancers and was also spotted in a long-sleeve red dress with padded shoulders.

Earlier this week Lady Gaga was in Staten Island shooting parts of the video at the Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden, and MTV News spoke to the Center's CEO, Lynn Kelly, who was very excited that Gaga decided to film there.

"We found both her and her crew to be easy to work with and low-key," Kelly told us. "I think we would have expected a lot of drama, and the truth is, she is probably the most down-to-earth person. It was endearing. She was friendly and kind.

"I think, for us, we're so excited to have someone of her talent, and to have somebody like that shoot here is a sheer honor," she continued. "What her music does for music is so much more than entertainment. It's connecting to the arts on a much deeper level, and that's what I hope we can do here."

'Footloose': The Reviews Are In!

Critics can't help but compare the Kenny Wormald dance flick to Kevin Bacon's 1984 original.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

Photo: Paramount Pictures

Let's dance! The remake of "Footloose" hit theaters on Friday (October 14), and the critics have weighed in. The dance flick revisits the 1984 original's story about a teen (played by newcomer Ken Wormald) who moves to a conservative town that has outlawed dancing; the new kid shakes things up in more ways than one.

"Footloose" seems to be holding on with a 74 percent fresh rating at the review-aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes and, overall, the verdict is a resounding "better than we thought it would be."

We rounded up a sampling of some of the reviews to give you an idea of what to expect if you decide to bust a move and hit the theater.

The Story
"After his mother dies, Boston kid Renn (Wormald) comes to live with his aunt (Kim Dickens) and uncle (Ray McKinnon) in Bomont, Ga., which three years before banned 'vulgar, demeaning amplified music' and 'lewd and lascivious dancing' in the wake of a car crash that killed five high-schoolers. One of the dead kids came from the family of Rev. Shaw Moore (Dennis Quaid), his wife Vi (Andie MacDowell) and their daughter Ariel (Julianne Hough). The boy's death has launched pretty Ariel into a territory somewhere between damaged and deranged. She stands on railroad tracks as a train speeds toward her, and flirts dangerously with surly local outlaw Chuck (Patrick Flueger), whose biker gang seems sanitized enough to be called Heck's Angels. Ariel also comes on to Renn — who, though he sports a Back Bay accent and a greasy coif, isn't that kind of boy." — Richard Corliss, Time

The Leads
"Unlike Bacon, who had a double, Wormald does Ren's angry dance himself in an abandoned warehouse. But Wormald is not the actor Bacon is. This crimps his chemistry with Hough, who has the indefinable spark that indicates star potential." — Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

The Direction
"If you remember the first 'Footloose,' you know more or less what happens, and you may find some of the alterations amusing. Instead of a game of chicken on tractors, for instance, there is a dirt-track race involving modified school buses. [Director Craig] Mr. Brewer films this lumbering action sequence, and several brawls and fights, with more verve and relish than he brings to the dance numbers, which are, in the age of 'Glee,' the 'High School Musical' movies and the mighty 'Step Up' franchise, woefully inadequate." — A.O. Scott, The New York Times

The Remake
"There's one thing to be said for a remake of a 1984 movie that uses the original's screenplay. This 2011 version is so similar — sometimes song for song and line for line — that I was wickedly tempted to reprint my 1984 review, word for word. But That Would be Wrong. I think I could have gotten away with it, though. The movies differ in such tiny details (the hero now moves to Tennessee from Massachusetts, not Chicago) that few would have noticed." — Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

The Verdict
"The remake of 'Footloose' is sappy, squeaky clean and far-fetched. But thanks to the obvious love director and co-writer Craig Brewer has for the 1984 original, its heart is in the right place." — Bill Goodykoontz, Arizona Republic

Ke$ha's already gotten "Sleazy" with Andre 3000. Now, a few more rappers want to get dirty with the glittery pop singer.

XXLmag.com reports that T.I. plans to jump on the track, and Lil Wayne and Wiz Khalifa will also be joining Andre and Tip on a new version of "Sleazy."

Weezy should be a welcome addition to Ke$ha's dance tune, as it sounds somewhat like Wayne's single "A Milli." And while not much else is known about the remix, T.I. promised that he's going to go big with his verse.

"I haven't heard anybody but mine. ... I'm gonna put my money on mine," the newly freed rapper, who ended an 11-month prison sentence in September, told the website.

The Andre 3000 remix dropped earlier this year and appears on K-Dollar Sign's album Cannibal. The guys will have a lot of swagger to compete with because when Andre appeared on the first remix, he had this to say: "We start out so cute in our baby pictures/ That mama shot for our daddy so that he wouldn't forget you/ He forgot anyway, but hey, one day he'll remember/ If not, he's human, I'm human, you human, we'll forgive him/ I call her Keisha, she like it because it's 'hood to her/ She call me Andre 6000 because I'm good to her."

Tip told XXLmag.com that his appearance on the Ke$ha song is just one of many remixes he's amped about. He has also worked on remixes for Meek Mill and Rick Ross's "Ima Boss," as well as Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne song "N---as in Paris."

"I'm looking for some more records to jump on," he said. "That's what I'm doin' right now. I'm commandeering hit records right now. I'm hijacking hit records. If you got a hit, I'm on it."

Robert Pattinson Eyed For Green Day's 'American Idiot'?

Posted: 14 Oct 2011 06:23 AM PDT

Billie Joe Armstrong mentioned 'Twilight' star for movie in 2009.
By Gil Kaufman

Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images

With the end of the "Twilight" franchise in sight, will star Robert Pattinson follow the lead of "Harry Potter" actor Daniel Radcliffe and segue into the land of musical theater?

Maybe, if Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong has his way. The rumor that Pattinson could be eyed for the lead role in the big-screen adaptation of the Green Day album/Broadway musical "American Idiot" picked up some serious steam this week. The only problem is that the "news" is not exactly new, but rather based on speculation from Armstrong more than two years ago, before Pattinson was, well, mega.

Asked who he would like to play Christian, the male lead, Armstrong told Spinner.com in an April 2009 interview, "I'm gonna say maybe that kid in 'Twilight,' [Pattinson]. He's a good actor. There's still more to come with that kid."

So, why is the quote picking up steam now? You can thank VH1's rebooted "Pop Up Video," which recently recycled the rumor when it ran a version of GD's "21 Guns" with a series of bubbles that read, "Hollywood is trying to turn it into a movie ... Billie Joe has said that his first choice to play the main character: Robert Pattinson."

The movie, being produced by Tom Hanks' Playtone in collaboration with Green Day, is currently in pre-production and no casting has been announced. At press time, MTV News could not reach Playtone or Green Day for comment on the rehashed Pattinson rumors or any other casting news.

If true, the choice of Pattinson would not be that outrageous. In addition to being one of today's hottest young male stars, RPattz is still in search of a role that would help him break free of the "Twilight" orbit, and he has a musical background. In addition to playing guitar and piano, he composes his own songs, two of which appeared on the "Twilight" soundtrack. He also contributed three songs to the soundtrack of the little-seen "How to Be."

Like the musical, the movie will be based on the band's 2004 album of the same name, which tells a story of love, loss and war. The Broadway production integrated songs from the original album as well as its follow-up, 21st Century Breakdown, and a previously unreleased tune called "When it's Time." The movie is tentatively slated to hit theaters in 2013.

After waiting more than five years for the domestic release of former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger's debut solo effort, surely her fans can hold on for a few more weeks?

The long-delayed Killer Love, which dropped in an alternate version in England in March, was slated to finally wash up on American shores on November 15. But according to the Hollywood Reporter, the disc has once again been delayed, pushed back a few weeks until December 6. No reason was given for the latest delay and the singer's label, Interscope Records, would only say that the new release date would be "early December."

The U.S. version of the Scherzinger disc is slated to feature production by a slew of heavy hitters, including Lady Gaga collaborator RedOne, Jim Jonsin, The-Dream, Harvey Mason Jr. and Tricky Stewart. Sting ("Power's Out") and Snoop Dogg ("Peep Show") are among the reported guests. 50 Cent lends some verses to the first single, "Right There."

A spokesperson for Interscope could not be reached for comment at press time about the release-date change. Scherzinger began work on her solo debut in 2005, only to shelve that album and start over again on the new effort several years later.

In the meantime, Scherzinger is busy with her other full-time gig as a judge on Simon Cowell's "X Factor." On Thursday night's baseball-delayed mentors' home-visit episode, Scherzinger hooked up with Enrique Iglesias to judge the talents of her assigned group of mentees: the over 30s. So far, Scherzinger, who was tapped as the fourth judge after original fourth judge Cheryl Cole was let go early in production, has served as a type of younger doppelgänger for Paula Abdul.

Veteran choreographer Abdul, who has locked down the role of the often weepy, sensitive mentor with the heart of glass, now appears to have an emotional friend in Scherzinger, who has frequently been moved to tears by some of the auditioners.

While Scherzinger has also shown some tough tendencies when facing off against Cowell, during Thursday night's first mentor episode she mostly chilled on the couch with guest helper Iglesias and awkwardly bobbed her head while making intense faces as he watched singers Elaine Gibbs and Stacy Francis do their thing. She had a hard time, though, keeping a poker face while formerly homeless James Brown wannabe Dexter Haygood did his Mick Jagger-meets-David-Lee-Roth version of Beyoncé's "Crazy in Love."

SANTA MONICA, CaliforniaDeath Cab for Cutie treated about 150 fans to a private performance Thursday night. The tiny show took place at legendary producer/mixer Bob Clearmountain's Berkeley Street Studio in Santa Monica, California.

If you weren't one of the lucky few to attend the intimate affair, don't fret: Local public radio station and tastemaker KCRW served as the evening's host and will air the performance on the November 1 episode of "Morning Becomes Eclectic." It will be available in KCRW's archives the same day.

The cozy space was a perfect setting for the Seattle quartet's lush melodies. While the room was small, Death Cab didn't seem to scale down their performance one bit, playing as if they were onstage at an arena.

They opened their 10-song set with "Crooked Teeth," off 2005's Plans. Many of the songs that followed were from the band's recent release, Codes and Keys, including "You Are a Tourist" and "Stay Young, Go Dancing."

About halfway through the set, the band sat down with KCRW DJ Anne Litt for a Q&A, which will also air on the "MBE" episode in November. The band chatted about the inspiration behind the lyrics in "You Are a Tourist," books they're reading and being enthralled by the Foo Fighters' stage presence — something they witnessed firsthand after opening for them. It was their ability to absolutely own the stage that singer Ben Gibbard said he admired most about the Foos, who were doing just that across town Thursday night, playing to a sold-out crowd at the Forum.

Death Cab ended with a two-song encore, or "noncore," which Gibbard said happens when a stage is too small for a band to exit before returning. Despite the tiny venue, the band did its best to make the audience feel like it was in an arena.

Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst has long complained that people have treated him like a music industry joke, a punch line to the question, "Seriously, what's with that dude in the backward red baseball cap?"

But the nu-metal maestro may have the final laugh thanks to a deal he recently signed with CBS and CBS TV Studios to develop a half-hour sitcom. According to Deadline Hollywood, Durst will star in and produce the untitled show, which has a not-ready-for-primetime working title that perfectly fits the "Nookie" singer's self-deprecating image: "Douchebag."

CBS has committed to looking over a script for the show, which centers on a "rock legend looking for balance between his high-profile lifestyle and trying to raise a family." The script is being written by Matthew Carlson ("Mr. Sunshine"), who will also serve as executive producer.

Durst is something of a TV novice, having made guest appearances on "Revelations" and "House," as well as cameos in "Zoolander," "Be Cool" and "Pauly Shore Is Dead." But he does have some solid experience behind the camera, with two feature directing credits on the little-seen "The Education of Charlie Banks" and "The Longshots." He got his start directing while working on nearly a dozen Limp Bizkit music videos; he's also done the honors on clips by such brethren acts as Staind, Korn, Cold and Puddle of Mudd.

The rocker also has some experience as a dad thanks to his teenage daughter Adriana and son Dallas. He reunited with the original lineup of Bizkit earlier this year for a comeback album entitled Gold Cobra, which failed to catch fire and return the group to its late-1990s peak.

Just a month after announcing he and his girlfriend, Monyetta Shaw, were expecting their second child together, a rep for Ne-Yo confirmed to People.com that the pair welcomed a child Monday.

Further details about the baby were not available, but Ne-Yo has always been open about his love of being a dad. "[My daughter] definitely knows her worth, which is a beautiful thing. That's something I've tried to instill in her from day one: understand that you are a Godsend," Ne-Yo said of the values he's teaching his kids. "You're an absolute angel, and people are supposed to treat you that way. She's extremely diva even at 10 months."

When news first broke about the pregnancy, it was reported that Ne-Yo and Shaw, who own an Atlanta boutique together, also had plans to marry. He later dismissed the rumor on Twitter: "Ok twit fam. To put all rumors to rest. Not engaged but am expecting second child," Ne-Yo tweeted. "Mo has no rep.

The person claiming to be her rep lied. Thanx for the interest in my personal. Know that the day that I DO decide to take that step you will hear it from the horse's mouth. Much love."

Ne-Yo (born Shaffer Chimere Smith) welcomed his first child, daughter Madilyn Grace, back in November 2010 and was ecstatic about becoming a father. "Feels like I'm in luv for the first time," he tweeted at the time. "Welcoming that lil' girl to the world last night defined for me what 'willing to kill and die for' truly means. My world, my life, all hers."
