'Footloose' Stars Defend Their Remake

For some film fans who have precious, emotional connections to Kevin Bacon and the original "Footloose," the release of the remake this week, starring relative acting newcomers Julianne Hough and Kenny Wormald, has been met with some hesitation.

Luckily, the stars of the Craig Brewer-directed retelling are fully aware of pressure to live up to the original, and they're happy to help alleviate any fears fans may have by addressing the misconceptions they've heard along the way.

"I've seen on Twitter a lot that 'Patrick Swayze would be upset' that we're remaking it," Ziah Colon said of a fear that attached the "Dirty Dancing" actor to the role Bacon originated. "I'd like to tell everyone that he wasn't in the original, and if you are upset about that, you probably should not be upset that we are remaking it, because you know nothing about it.

"I think that there is a lot of misinformation, and then there are people that are upset that it's too similar and there are people that are upset that it's not similar enough," Colon continued. "It's a fun movie," she promised. "Go watch it. Have fun!"

"We're not gonna take your childhood dreams and just, like, wring them of any importance," co-star Miles Tiller said. "We understand that it's a very important film for people and that some of them saw it at an age where it really spoke to them. We're just trying to give a new generation of fans this story. So you should be OK with that."

"Yeah, and wear comfy shoes, because after the movie, you're gonna wanna dance!" Colon promised.

Hough, MTV's New Class Triple Threat, addressed a couple of other misconceptions she's heard about the film.

"[People] think that it's going to be a dance movie, which it's really not — the original was a drama with dancing in it — but also that it's a remake that's going to suck, because a lot of remakes kind of, you know, butcher the original one," she said. "Those are the two misconceptions. One, it's not a dance movie, and two, I think we really did it justice and made it our own but kept what needed to be there."

Yo Gotti Says Zed Zilla 'Could Be The Next One'

With Rent's Due, 'It's time for me to show 'em what south Memphis about,' Zed Zilla tells Mixtape Daily.

Granted, Yo Gotti has yet to release his first major-label album, but the Memphis, Tennessee, spitter is thinking big. While fans await Gotti's Live From the Kitchen (which he hopes will drop before the year ends), the "5 Star Chick" rapper is ready to further the career of his artist Zed Zilla, who will drop his Rent's Due mixtape later this month.

"We from two different sides: north Memphis, south Memphis," Zed told Mixtape Daily before explaining how he and Gotti met. "I had a show one day, he had his ear to the streets, came to my show. I rocked it, he liked what he saw ... we been click-clackin' ever since."

Zed has actually been riding alongside Gotti since his 2008 mixtape, Cocaine Muzik. More recently, the pair collaborated on Gotti's "Fire That Bitch," a humorous break-up song from Cocaine Muzik 6.

Next up is Zilla's Rent's Due with DJ Bigga Rankin. The tape features appearances from Waka Flocka Flame, 2 Chainz and, of course, Gotti. The title is particularly fitting considering one of Zed's rap aliases is "the Landlord."

"For me, with Rent's Due, ain't no way around rent; you gotta pay rent," he said. "I'm here to collect rent. I been with [Gotti] for a minute, been around the world, did a lot of shows, now it's time for me to show 'em what south Memphis about."

More than just his skills on the mic, Gotti made sure Zed Zilla was everything he claimed to be before signing him to his Cocaine Muzik Group record label. "First and foremost, you have to do your research and find out how close you is to that actual life you're talkin' about," Gotti explained. "You could be the best lyricist or rapper or songwriter, if you ain't mentally prepared to put in the work, it's a waste of time.

"When we done the research, [Zed] had all the ingredients that we were looking for," he continued. "I think he could be the next one."

Game Says 'It Was Time' To Propose To His Girlfriend

'You kinda gotta step up and be a family man, and she deserves it,' newly engaged MC tells MTV News.

INGLEWOOD, California — You would never consider rapper the Game "soft," especially on his home turf of Los Angeles. But the MC showed us his vulnerable side by proposing to longtime girlfriend Tiffany Cambridge on Wednesday afternoon (October 12).

Game staged the big surprise at Frank D. Parent Elementary School, where Cambridge works as a teacher. The school's principal even got in on the plan, calling Cambridge to an afterschool "meeting" where Game was waiting anxiously with the couple's two children.

Cambridge arrived with a big look of suspicion on her face to a room full of people. As family, faculty, media and the couple's bishop looked on, Game got down on one knee and said, "I just wanted to ask you: Would you marry me?"

Game's girl immediately answered with, "Oh, yes, Jayceon" (his actual first name), and the two embraced to a cheering crowd.

"I'm just, like, in shock right now, so excuse my expression," Cambridge told the room. "I am the deer-in-a-headlight type of person."

The same could be said for Game. For an artist who exudes confidence, it was rare to see the rapper nervous — well, as much as he would let on. But he admitted prior to popping the question that he was pretty anxious.

"As a man, this is that day where you throw your player card away and you kinda gotta step up and be a family man, and she deserves it," Game told MTV News immediately following the proposal. "It's been a long run, and we've been together at least seven years. We've been off, we've been on, we've been arguing, we fought. We had good times and bad times, and I think that at the end of the day, as a man, this is something that I owed to her and I owed to my family, so it was time."

While the proposal seemed planned to the very last detail, you would be surprised how it all came together.

"The planning was all quick, last minute. I woke up today with a different headspace, and I just started planning this at 10 a.m., and we pulled it off by 2 [p.m.]. Four hours to pull all these media outlets, get the school in line, the principal, the bishop from the church to come down. The sun came out, obviously [I'm] sweating here, crazy."

With Game's success at prepping all these details, he might even get in on the wedding planning himself. Well, maybe.

"No, no, no — I'm gonna stay on the Xbox, I'm gonna play 'Madden,' I'm gonna let her plan it all the way out, and then I'm gonna go overseas and get whatever she needs so she can successfully have the wedding of her life," Game said.

So what's the next step for the engaged couple? "Hopefully a nice dinner and some lovemaking!" Game joked.

This caps a successful couple of months for the rapper, whose R.E.D. Album debuted at #1 in late August.

Share your well-wishes for the newly engaged couple in the comments!

Dr. Dre 'Blown Away' By David Guetta's Live Show

NEW YORK — Before he was a platinum rapper or superproducer, Dr. Dre got his start in the 1980s as a DJ for the World Class Wrecking Crew, so when it comes to the wheels of steel, the Good Doctor knows a thing or two.

Maybe that's why Beats by Dre snagged David Guetta to help develop the company's new Beats mixr headphones, designed specifically for DJs. In fact, Guetta and the new DJ headphones have inspired Dre so much that the hip-hop luminary is considering returning to the decks.

"He's passionate about what he's doing," Dre said of Guetta. "I flew all the way to Ibiza, Spain, to check him out, and I saw the show that he put together, and I was blown away, so who better to represent our DJ headphone?"

"Who has helped DJs more in the world than David Guetta?" Interscope Chairman Jimmy Iovine chimed in.

Guetta's Ibiza show clearly left an impression on the Chronic producer and rapper, who saw more than just a DJ, but an artist at work. "From the beginning, just the energy that he brought and all the effects that he had," Dre recalled. "He wasn't just DJing and spinning records; he put on a show, and I took that home with me. I fell in love with the show."

It's no secret that Dre has been fine-tuning is long-awaited Detox album, but what fans may not know is that the former N.W.A producer has at least thought about returning to the DJ booth. "I've actually been talking about it a little bit; dusting my hands off and getting back in the DJ scene," he said. "We'll see what's up with that in the future."

Johnny Depp Explains Bumpy Ride Of 'Lone Ranger'

Much like the unforgivable and unpredictable nature of the American Old West, the plight of Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski's big-screen adaptation of "The Lone Ranger" has been quite a bumpy ride.

The film got the green light earlier this year, with Depp settled into the role of Tonto and Armie Hammer selected to play the Ranger. Then in August, Disney put a halt on the production with claims that the budget was too big. Just this week, negotiations ended on a happy note, with the production back in full swing and a tentative start date scheduled for early next year.

MTV News caught up with Depp as he promoted "The Rum Diary," which opens October 28, to find out why "Ranger" is so important to him and why the budget became such a big issue for the studio bigwigs.

"I like the character. I think I have interesting plans for the character, and I think the film itself could be entertaining and very funny," he said. "But also I like the idea of having the opportunity to make fun of the idea of the Indian as a sidekick — which has always been [the case] throughout the history of Hollywood, the Native American has always been a second-class, third-class, fourth-class citizen, and I don't see Tonto that way at all. So it's an opportunity for me to salute Native Americans."

With regard to the back-and-forth budget talks with the studio, Depp admitted that he and director Verbinski knew they'd be in for some negotiating from the get-go, but they also planned to be patient.

"We knew that the budget was going to be huge initially, and we also knew that it was going to be shut down for a while, and it was kind of like we patiently wait — we shave a little bit here, we do a little bit there, [and] they fix it."

Michael Jackson Doctor Acted With 'Gross Negligence'

Fellow doctors take Conrad Murray to task for his treatment of late pop star.
By Gil Kaufman

A day after the pathologist who did the autopsy on Michael Jackson said in court that evidence did not support the argument that the pop icon self-administered a fatal dose of the surgical anesthetic propofol, the defense team for Dr. Conrad Murray appeared to be shifting its strategy.

Lawyers for Murray, who is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Jackson at age 50 in June 2009, seemed set on their plan to convince jurors that Jackson self-administered a dose of the drug while Murray was out of the room. Let's take a look at what went down in court.

Day 12
The Witnesses
» Dr. Alon Steinberg, cardiologist
» Dr. Nadar Kamangar, pulmonologist and sleep medicine specialist

Testimony Highlights
» According to TMZ, one of Murray's lawyers, Michael Flanagan, announced in court that an independent study conducted by the defense found that swallowing propofol could not be fatal. And while lead attorney Ed Chernoff said in his opening statements that the defense would show that MJ self-administered a fatal dose of the drug, the site pointed out that Chernoff could still claim that the singer injected himself with the killer dose after waking up from a fitful sleep.

» Cardiologist Dr. Alon Steinberg said fellow cardiologist Murray displayed an "extreme deviation" from standard practices in his treatment of Jackson based on his review of the case from transcripts of a police interview. He pointed to six distinct deviations from standard care procedures, dubbing each one "gross negligence."

» As independent experts have claimed to MTV News, Steinberg said propofol should only be used for surgical procedures in a hospital setting and never used to induce sleep, something he'd never heard of. Jackson, a chronic insomniac, reportedly used propofol as a sleep aid. In addition, Steinberg said Murray appeared to lack the basic emergency equipment needed and assistance in case something went wrong and that he took the wrong measures when Jackson was in trouble, including not giving the star an antidote — Flumazenil — instead of chest compressions, which were unnecessary. He also faulted Murray for not immediately calling 911, which might have saved Jackson's life, but instead waiting 20 minutes as he summoned the singer's entourage. "Every minute counts," he testified.

» Steinberg had plenty more criticisms, among them shock that Murray did not take explicit notes, another huge deviation from procedure. He said that even if MJ had self-administered the fatal dose, Murray was at fault for leaving his patient alone. "When you monitor a patient, you never leave their side, especially after giving propofol. It's like leaving a baby that's sleeping on your kitchen countertop," he said.

» Pulmonary and critical care physician Dr. Nadar Kamangar later took the stand and agreed with Steinberg's comments that Murray exhibited "gross negligence" with his treatment of Jackson. The sleep medicine specialist told the court that while insomnia is a common condition and that he administers propofol on a daily basis, the dosage must be monitored very carefully — with an automated pump — as its effects can be unpredictable, particularly when mixed with other sedatives. Kamangar also stated that Murray's failure to call 911 immediately was an "unconscionable deviation of care" and that his choosing to ignore Jackson's "clear signs" of drug abuse were completely unethical.

Murray has pleaded not guilty to the charge of involuntary manslaughter. He faces four years in prison and the loss of his medical license. With just a few more witnesses to go, the prosecution could wrap up its case by Thursday.

LL Cool J Salutes Hip-Hop's Growth At BET Awards

Who would've thought that hip-hop would take it this far? When he got his start in 1984, LL Cool J remembers how the genre was marginalized in the media, but Tuesday night's 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards are a definite sign of the times.

"When we first started the music, they didn't even play it on the radio in the daytime," BET's I Am Hip Hop Icon Award winner told MTV News on the show's black carpet. "Hip-hop was two hours at night or an hour at night on the weekends, and that was it. So to go from an hour or two hours at night to entire award shows and whole generations of people whose lives have been changed just because they're involved with the music, that's a big thing."

The awards show started off with a bang. Young Jeezy opened with his new single "F.A.M.E." and gave way to T.I. on the song's final verse, marking the first television appearance for the King of the South since his prison release in September. Lil Wayne — who was nominated for an astounding 18 awards — took home five, while Busta Rhymes accepted four on behalf of his absent "Look at Me Now" collaborator Chris Brown. Nicki Minaj was named MVP of the Year, while Wiz Khalifa took home the Rookie of the Year award. Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy won CD of the Year, and Jay-Z was crowned Hustler of the Year.

The show's live performances were something to marvel at, as DMX and Swizz Beatz surprised viewers with a medley of classics. Big Sean and Wiz Khalifa rocked spirited sets, while Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group performed their singles "That Way" and "Ima Boss."

Rap icon Heavy D closed out the show, but the real highlights were the rap ciphers. B.o.B, Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, Tech N9ne, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem and Rick Ross all participated in the rap segments, while DJ Premier curated the rhyme showcase.

"It makes me feel good to be a person that contributed, that helped make this happen," LL said.

How's that for cultural growth?

Given that she lovingly refers to her fans as "Katycats," and that her first foray into the fragrance market was called "Purr," it shouldn't come as a surprise that Katy Perry has decided on another feline-centric name for her second perfume: "Meow."

Perry announced the new scent Wednesday (October 12) on Twitter, calling it the "bestie" to Purr and promising that Meow will be "very sweet & inspired by that magical place, CANDYFORNIA!"

So, will it smell like cotton candy and sun-tan lotion? On Tuesday, Perry asked her 'Cats to predict the name of the fragrance, with 10 winners receiving the perfume and one lucky fan receiving an invite to the Meow launch event, set for December. As it turns out, a whole lot of folks seemed to guess correctly — though we did like some of the incorrect guesses, like "Catnip," "Furrytail" and, uh, "Pussy Power."

"Some of you guessed my sister perfume right!" she wrote. "I can't wait to reveal her, she is so sweet!"

Meow follows on the heels of Perry's successful Purr fragrance, which she debuted in July, wearing cat ears to the launch party in Toronto. Earlier, she had pulses pounding when she slipped into a body-hugging catsuit and posed provocatively with a giant pink ball of yarn in promotional ads for the perfume.

Perhaps Perry will use her upcoming video, for new single "The One That Got Away," as a platform to give fans a sneak peek at the packaging for the fragrance.

Bun B Represents For Hip-Hop At Occupy Houston

'I think it's important that Bernard Freeman be here as a citizen of the world,' the Trill O.G. tells MTV News of lending support.
By Maurice Bobb

HOUSTONBun B assumed his role as the unofficial Mayor of Houston when he joined Occupy Houston at City Hall on Tuesday. The protest is an offshoot of the Occupy Wall Street movement that began about a month ago in New York.

And as rap fans know, hip-hop has a long tradition of serving as an outlet for activism. So, like Talib Kweli and Kanye West did in NYC's Zuccotti Park, the legendary Professor of Trill turned up in his home city to show support for the demonstrators. MTV News caught up with Bun B at the protest, and he opened up about why he decided to come through.

"I think it's important that Bernard Freeman be here as a citizen of the world," he told us, mentioning his birth name. "And I think it's important that Bun B be here as a person of influence who has a voice that can bring attention to a cause. It's very important that someone from the hip-hop community is out here supporting Occupy Houston, simply because of the fact of how hip-hop is represented in the world," he added.

The Trill O.G. MC said it was also important to show that rappers are about more than their money.

"I think a lot of people look at us as being these flashy, fly types of people who are just concerned with spending money, but that's not all of us," he said. "That's not what hip-hop is here to do. We have individuals that represent that, and I represented that from time to time, but that doesn't make me who I am. I understand how real this world is and how real things can get and that's what Occupy Houston is about. It's not about what we do on the clock — it's about being off the clock and supporting people who can't even get on the clock right now."

While Houston is a long way from Wall Street, the city knows corporate corruption all too well. The Enron debacle, for example, is still a sore spot with many Houstonians.

"The effects of the Enron collapse in Houston are still felt today," Bun said. "Not everyone who had strong jobs in that sector were able to find replacements for those jobs. A lot of people had to take positions in companies to do things that they didn't necessarily train for in order to support their families and that's kinda what we're standing for at Occupy Houston.

"The misconception about Occupy Houston is that it's a bunch of jobless people who don't wanna work and just want the rich to give them their money. Well, that's not true. The majority of these people are educated — not just high school, but they're college graduates, they have degrees, they've done what it takes to get into the workforce. Unfortunately, corporate America is not affording enough opportunities for people to go out get jobs and support their families. Instead of hiring more people, they're firing more people just to keep the numbers up. A company that makes $3 billion a year, it's still gonna function if they only make $2.8 billion a year in order to keep a couple people employed."

Bun explained that protesters' frustration was due in large part to feeling underrepresented at the government level, where decisions affecting their lives are being made. "So that's what we're here fighting against, you know, corporate irresponsibility," he continued. "The fact that we in Houston and America — even though we're the people that vote, we're the people that pay our taxes — we don't have the voice that we should have in our local state and federal governments, and that's another stance that we're taking."

On Tuesday, demonstrators looked like most of those at Occupy rallies across the nation, brandishing homemade placards and signs with varying messages such as, "I am the 99 percent" and "Heal America, Tax Wall Street." Bun rolled up his sleeves and pitched in with assigning posters and announcing general assembly guidelines, which included the proper way to agree (both hands held aloft), block proposals (both arms crossed like an X) and to ask a question (one fist in the air).

Police were on hand, but no arrests were made on Tuesday.

"Anybody that wants to understand clearly what the Occupy movement here in Houston, across the country, as well as the world, a little better can go to any of the Occupy sites and find all the real information, not the misinformation," Bun said.

Future Explains Difficulty Shooting 'Tony Montana' Video

Rapper films 'Scarface'-inspired video in the Dominican Republic: 'It took five hours in customs, getting searched 10 times.'
By Steven Roberts

Rappers love "Scarface." While "Goodfellas" and "A Bronx Tale" might be better movies, rappers just can't get enough of Tony Montana. The 1983 Oliver Stone film starring Al Pacino is a favorite because of the parallels MCs have drawn between their lives and Montana's. After all the movie posters in those old episodes of "Cribs" and the many mentions of "Scarface" and character Alejandro Sosa in rhymes, Atlanta's Future has a song simply called "Tony Montana."

The track, which finds Future rapping as Montana, has started to gain legs outside of his stronghold of Atlanta — thanks in large part to a feature from Drake — and, of course, the next step is a video. When MTV News caught up with Future on Monday afternoon, he revealed he spent the past weekend shooting the clip in the beautiful Dominican Republic with director Jessy Terrero. Yes, Montana was from Cuba, but Future learned it isn't easy shooting in foreign countries, let alone one with which the U.S. has longstanding political problems.

"It was hard [enough] getting over to the Dominican Republic and getting all the permits," Future said. "I wanted to go to Cuba, but I couldn't get over there because of the passports and going through customs. It took five hours in customs, getting searched 10 times, going to the Dominican Republic. Getting back, they damn near didn't want me to come back to America."

Future said it was a difficult process making the video, but it will be worth it once fans see his and Terrero's vision. Drake is expected to be featured in the clip, although his part wasn't filmed in the D.R. Unlike in the film, Future said the video finds him leaving the States.

"I get a call from overseas saying there's been some robberies going on, and they want me to come over there and handle it," he explained. "It's like a caper, and I'm just getting down to it, trying to find out who's in charge and who's pulling the robberies. It's a movie on wax."

'Avengers' Trailer: Experts Weigh In

Posted: 12 Oct 2011 01:25 AM PDT

We asked movie and comic book experts to analyze first official trailer.
By Josh Wigler

The first trailer for "The Avengers" is finally here, offering our best look yet at what director Joss Whedon has in mind for when Earth's Mightiest Heroes gather together on the big screen in May.

For many fans, the trailer delivered on all its promises: extensive looks at the team in action, creepy narration from Tom Hiddleston's Loki and even Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury stepping onto the battlefield with a bazooka in tow. For other fans — let's just say the sweet melodic stylings of Nine Inch Nails wasn't exactly what they had in mind for the trailer's soundtrack, among other grievances.

To get a better sense at what fans are thinking regarding the "Avengers" trailer, MTV News reached out to film and comic book experts across the blogosphere to weigh in with their thoughts on the latest Marvel teaser. The overall verdict, with few exceptions, is that the trailer is a rollicking success.

"I'm a guy who likes to deal in specifics, and what I can say specifically is I honestly liked all of it," said Jonah Weiland, executive producer at Comic Book Resources. "Sets an incredible tone and gives us a glimpse of the dynamic between the core members (I'm sure we'll find out more about Black Widow and Hawkeye in due time). The action looks intense, but most importantly the characters all look like they 'fit' together — frankly, that's one of the biggest challenges with this 'team movie' concept Marvel has been building to and it appears on first glance like they've succeeded in a major way."

NextMovie's Kevin Polowy agreed that the "Avengers" trailer was the home run he was hoping for. "First off, I'm just relieved there's some meat to it," he said. "This is leaps and bounds beyond the unrevealing teaser trailer I think a lot of fans feared. Instead, we're treated to glimpses of all the Avengers as well as Nick Fury and Loki, not to mention plenty of other bells and whistles: Menacing narration, cars blowing up, rocket launchers, trademark Tony Stark snark, more cars blowing up ... lots of cars blow up in this trailer. Plus a look at that 'rage monster' the Hulk! I thought it rocked. This is really going to bring the house down at New York Comic Con."

From the perspective of HitFix's Gregory Ellwood, Marvel hit the nail on the ol' Shellhead when it comes to the movie's big selling point. "It was fantastic to see Iron Man flying through the air again — Marvel knows how they are going to open this movie, and it's with him," he said. "The Downey Jr./Banner moment was cute (boy are those guys short, though), Hemsworth's charm is always infectious, Sam Jackson is kickin' ass like there are some snakes everywhere, Black Widow is in the house, we get our first glimpse of an Avengers Quinjet and a shot of Cap and Thor coming to blows."

But there are some areas the "Avengers" trailer did not deliver on, according to the experts, like getting the chance to spend more time with Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye, whose only previous Marvel credit is a brief cameo in "Thor."

"It would've been nice to see a little bit more Hawkeye," said Caleb Goellner, senior editor at Comics Alliance. "I understand that the 'Big Three' and Black Widow are the established characters with the biggest draw, but what can I say? I like arrows."

Ellwood agreed, adding a dearth of Black Widow to his list of critiques: "It would be fantastic if Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner actually had a chance to speak. Although, obviously, many fans of the Black Widow might not care."

Another potential area of weakness: the movie's central threat. Though we know Loki is the big bad in charge during "The Avengers," we're still in the dark as to the power he possesses. As Newsarama's Lucas Siegel pointed out: "What's the big threat? We saw Loki, who Thor took down on his own, and ... exploding cars. It would've been nice to have a little bit more direct of a 'big threat' shown."

Having said that, Siegel added: "Of course, that's what we all want to see, but it could also be a great thing to save for the movie itself."

"All in due time," Weiland agreed regarding Marvel's decision to withhold certain bits of key information. "This certainly isn't the last trailer for this movie."

It certainly isn't. Asked what they were most looking forward to seeing next from the Avengers, many of the experts agreed upon a certain shade of green.

"Hulk, Hulk, Hulk!" Weiland said. "It's a safe bet that some — if not much — of the NYC destruction seen in the trailer is caused by the Hulk and, look, we all want to see Hulk rampage. Sure, we got some of that in those two films, but I'm pretty sure in Joss Whedon's hands, he'll make those previous Hulk movies look like an episode of 'My Little Pony.' "

Another frequently cited item on the wish list: confirmation of Loki's allies, long rumored to be the Skrulls, an alien race of shape-shifters prominently featured in Marvel Comics.

"I'd like the next trailer to further tease what kind of threat the Avengers will face in 2012," Goellner said. "Skrulls? Robots? Elves? Whatever it is, I want to know the team is up against more than Loki and some city streets exploding."

"Of course everyone still wants to know who's helping Loki wreak havoc on Earth," Polowy agreed. "Clearly some sort of intergalactic posse's got his back. But I wouldn't be surprised if Whedon and company keep that under wraps for as long as they can."

But if there's one thing the experts could all agree upon? "Just the whole darn movie," Siegel exclaimed. "Can't wait!"

After a few years of speculation, John McClane is going to die hard another day. On Wednesday (October 12), Fox announced that the fifth entry in the series will be called "A Good Day to Die Hard" and is set for release on February 14, 2013.

As Bruce Willis told MTV News' Josh Horowitz while promoting "Cop Out" last year, the next adventure for McClane takes him international. According to the announcement, McClane heads to Russia to find his son, who has found himself in trouble. The role has yet to be cast, but the search has begun for a young actor to play the action icon's son.

"A Good Day to Die Hard" begins shoot this January under director John Moore of "Max Payne" and the "Omen" remake. Willis confirmed to MTV News last October that the script by Skip Woods was finished and undergoing some rewrites, saying that it was "probably going to happen."

Aside from what was mentioned in the initial announcement, little else is known about the plot or cast. "The Thing" star Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who played McClane's daughter Lucy in "Live Free and Die Hard," recently told IndieWire that she didn't think she would appear in the fifth entry. "I'm assuming I will not be [in that] because I have not heard anything," Winstead said.

Justin Long told MTV News something similar, saying he was interested but didn't think he would be asked back. "I didn't get a good feeling that I was going to be a part of this imminent 'Die Hard,' " Long said. "I would love to get my hands on it."

Cobra Starship 'Go Big' During '90210' Cameo

'We were up for, like, 24 hours straight,' Gabe Saporta says of his band's appearance on Tuesday night's episode.

Cobra Starship made a guest appearance on Tuesday night's "90210," and while they may have been looking fresh, it turns out they were anything but.

At least that's what they told MTV News back in August, one day after filming their cameo, and one day before they took the stage during the Video Music Awards Pre-Show.

"We were up for, like, 24 hours straight," frontman Gabe Saporta laughed. "We woke up at 5 a.m. to go film '90210.' We got done at, like, 8, and yesterday was our only day off, so we were like, 'OK, we haven't slept, but it's our only day in L.A., so let's go big.' "

Though they were dragging, Cobra pushed on through, wowing the "90210" crowd — and, from the sound of things, quite a few of the actresses too — with their performance.

"We did 'One Night' and another song from the record called 'Anything for Love,' " Saporta said. "There were a lot of babes there who were like, 'We'll do anything for love.' Girls who were very sensitive. Also, I felt like people were looking at us weird."

They even got a chance to flex their acting muscles (the same ones on display in their late, lamented "CobraTV" Web series) and, in the process, learned a few tricks of the trade from guitarist Ryland Blackinton.

"We did some fake speaking. We got pulled into a scene, because nobody can actually talk [during the filming of musical performances]," Blackinton explained. "A lot of people maybe know that, but our fake manager in it goes up to us and goes [mouths fake words], and we're like [mouths even more fake words]. So we, like, kind of had lines, but we were just talking nonsense."

"Ryland went to acting school, and I overheard something that, I guess, actors do, when you have to do those kind of things, where you're not really speaking. You say, 'Watermelon,' " Saporta said.

"Yeah, you list fruits," Blackinton added. "It looks deep, actually. All the fruits."

And if they had one complaint about their whole "90210" experience, it would probably be the casting of a rather hirsute gentleman as their "manager." No matter how starstruck they were on set, Cobra had a difficult time not being mesmerized by his impressive chest plumage. Still, like all great actors, they managed to press on.

"The manager they chose for us had a lot of chest hair," Saporta laughed.

"It was like he was wearing a shirt underneath his opened-up shirt," bassist Alex Suarez added.

"It looked like a Cosby sweater," Blackinton chimed in. "Only all one color."

Eminem King Of BET Ciphers, Slaughterhouse Say

'We enjoy what everybody else is doin', but our focus is us, and in our minds, we're the best rap group,' Joe Budden tells MTV News.

At its core, hip-hop is a competitive sport. Hit records are nice, but the greatest MCs are often defined by their wordplay.

Judging from fan reaction across Twitter, the highlight of Tuesday's 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards were the nine different rhyme cipher segments, which showcased a total of 41 MCs all vying for rap supremacy. Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, B.o.B, Machine Gun Kelly, Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group and Eminem and his Shady 2.0 crew all contributed lethal bars to the program.

According to Slaughterhouse member Joe Budden, it was Marshall who reigned supreme in his round of rhyming. "We wasn't chumped, though," Budden told MTV News on the show's black carpet.

Yelawolf set it off with a tongue-twisting verse, while DJ Premier spun the instrumental from the East Flatbush Project's 1996 classic "Tried by 12." Joey threw the gauntlet next, with lines referencing some of rap's elite, including Jay-Z, Kanye West and Lil Wayne. "I'm grown, I'm not watching the throne, I'm sabotaging it," he spit before dropping, "Enough raps from you scrub cats about cocking the snub back/ Wayne couldn't teach me how to love that."

When asked to contemplate Shady's place among other rap crews, Crooked I pounded his chest and nominated Slaughterhouse for the highest honor. "Right now, we're the best f---in' rap group, straight up," he said.

"Best rap group in the universe," Budden chimed in. "We thinking about us and what we're doin'. We enjoy what everybody else is doin', but our focus is us, and in our minds, we're the best rap group."

After last night's performance, Slaughterhouse certainly made a case. With his verse, Royce Da 5'9" expressed his appreciation for pop star Rihanna, and after the cipher aired, "Hi Rihanna" became a trending topic on Twitter. Still, the segment's main draw was Eminem, who stacked rhyme triplets atop each other in vivid and witty ways. Taking poetic license, Em described his rollout plans for both Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf's upcoming album releases, spitting: "You're about to see peace destroyed, it'll never be restored/ When I unleash these beastly hoards on your CD stores/ Wanna stop it? You will need a priest, at least three swords/ A license to ill from the Beastie Boys, three Ouija Boards and a squeegee/ And please be warned, don't ask what the squeegees for/ Or the holy water, acid raps that'll eat these floors."

And it all sounds delightful.

Scotty McCreery: How Does He Rank Among 'Idol' Debuts?

Country crooner's Clear As Day tops the Billboard charts, but how does he size up against other 'Idol' champs?
By James Montgomery

December 14, 2003. That was the date Ruben Studdard's Soulful opened at #1 on the Billboard albums chart. And somewhat incredibly, it's also the last time a debut disc from an "American Idol" champion accomplished the feat.

Sure, there have been some near-misses along the way, but since Studdard, none have been able to bow at #1, a streak that spanned some 2,859 days (or 4,116,960 minutes, in case you were counting).

It's also a streak that officially came to an end on Wednesday (October 12), with the rather eye-opening #1 debut by "Idol" season 10 champion Scotty McCreery, whose Clear As Day sold nearly 197,000 copies to take the top spot. It's the highest first-week number for an "American Idol" winner since David Cook sold almost 280,000 copies of his self-titled debut in 2008 and, given the recent lack of chart success from "Idol" champs, it's an even more impressive feat.

Because, while some "Idol" also-rans (Clay Aiken, Chris Daughtry, Adam Lambert, etc.) have managed to move units, the contemporary crop of champions have suffered poor first-week sales. Thanks to the support of the country music crowd, McCreery has managed to buck that trend. But where, exactly, do Clear As Day's first-week numbers rank among the debuts by other "American Idol" winners? We've crunched the figures, along with the chart positions, below:

» Ruben Studdard, Soulful, 2003: 416,569 (#1 debut)
» Carrie Underwood, Some Hearts, 2005: 314,549 (#2)
» Taylor Hicks, Taylor Hicks, 2006: 298,199 (#2)
» Kelly Clarkson, Thankful, 2003: 297,381 (#1)
» David Cook, David Cook, 2008: 279,578 (#3)
» Fantasia Barrino, Free Yourself, 2004: 239,589 (#8)
» Scotty McCreery, Clear As Day, 2011: 196,739 (#1)
» Jordin Sparks, Jordin Sparks, 2007: 119,119 (#10)
» Kris Allen, Kris Allen, 2009: 80,072 (#11)
» Lee DeWyze, Live It Up, 2010: 38,581 (#19)

Beyonce's Team Shoots Down Fake Baby-Bump Rumors

Publicist calls rumors 'stupid, ridiculous and false.'
By Gil Kaufman

Beyoncé has had to deal with dozens of scurrilous, absurd and outlandish rumors over the course of her career. And like most stars, she has ignored the majority of them, responded to some and mostly just let the talkers talk. But after the Internet blew up earlier this week with rumors that the pregnant singer was sporting what some were calling a "fake" baby bump during a recent TV appearance, enough was enough.

Beyoncé's publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, told ABC News on Tuesday that the allegations are "stupid, ridiculous and false." The rumors were sparked by an appearance Beyoncé made on Australia's "Sunday Night HD" in which her midsection seemed to deflate and fold over in an odd manner when she sat down for an interview while wearing a loose-fitting red dress.

It was during that appearance that Beyoncé — who revealed her pregnancy — at the 2011 VMAs confirmed that the child she is expecting with hubby Jay-Z is due in February. "I just feel like it's time and I'm very grateful that God has blessed me with the biggest gift any human can have," B said during the interview. "If there's any time, right now is the time, and I'm so happy."

Before the bump-troversy erupted, Beyoncé told Harper's Bazaar that she doesn't get worked up over gossip. "I am finally at the stage in my life where I am not so concerned with other people's opinions about my life decisions," she said. "It is really liberating to know what I want, to know what truly makes me happy."

And while the super-couple have always kept their private life off limits, the "Countdown" singer did reveal a bit about her relationship with Jigga in the November issue of the magazine.

"We took our time and developed an unbreakable friendship before we got married. ... But like anything great and successful in your life, marriage takes hard work and sacrifice," she said. "It has to be something both you and your husband deeply want. The best thing about marriage is the amount of growth you have because you can no longer hide from your insecurities. There's someone right there calling you out on your flaws and building you up when you need the support. If you are with the right person, it brings out the best version of you."

Evanescence Plan More U.S. Tour Dates For 2012

'We're gonna be all over the world,' frontwoman Amy Lee tells MTV News backstage at the Hollywood Palladium.

LOS ANGELES — Backstage at the historic Hollywood Palladium on Tuesday, Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee was beaming. She was just hours away from playing to an army of eager fans (who, by the way, started forming a line around the venue early in the day). And of course, her band released its long-awaited third album, Evanescence, on the same day.

"There's a big line out there for sure," Lee told MTV News. "I don't know what to say, it was really cute. I went and bought my album at Amoeba [Music] and then I was on my way back and I had my little album on my lap, and they were all looking at their albums too. I think they just came from there.

"We're really excited," Lee continued. "You know, we've been working on this record forever and today's the day that we've been looking forward to for a really long time. It's great to be in L.A. We're gonna play a great show and just have fun."

The show was just the second stop on the tour, which sees support from opening acts the Pretty Reckless (which Lee called "a great fit") and Rival Sons (whose sound she described as "that Zeppelin, trippy, awesome rock"). Both bands were handpicked by EV, no doubt due to their impressive live sets.

As far as what fans can expect from Evanescence's stage show, Lee promised plenty from the new LP.

"We're definitely focusing mainly on the new material," Lee said. "We're really excited about that music the most — obviously it's the newest — but of course we'll be playing some from both of our other albums too. I guess I'd say in general, our show's on the heavy-energy side, so we'll be running around singing a lot of fast songs." While it's been some time since fans have had a chance to see EV live, Lee hasn't forgotten her favorite thing about touring.

"I love the fans!" Lee said with a smile. "I think the shows — I guess that's a boring answer — but definitely the thing that we're looking forward to when we're on the road is the concerts. Seeing the fans — hopefully getting them to lose their minds."

Which is exactly what they did when the band took the stage later that night at the Palladium. A seeming sea of black shirts filled the venue to near capacity. Of course, the band echoed the same dark wardrobe, punctuated by a burst of plaid on Lee's dress. Capturing every moment were a throng of cell phones and cameras hoisted in the air. Oh, and plenty of devil horns.

The energetic L.A. show was one stop among a slew of U.S. cities that the band will hit from now until November 1. But if your hometown isn't on the current schedule, don't fret: EV is already planning the next leg of the Stateside tour.

"We're still booking it, but I think we're gonna be doing another U.S. run next January, late January, somewhere in there," Lee said. "That's kind of the plan. If not, it will be soon after. We're gonna be all over the world, so — we always tour the world, but this time we're making a point to try to hit a lot the countries that we've always wanted to go to and have never been to, or that we see fans tweeting us or whatever and saying, Why don't we come there? We've never been to Indonesia, or whatever. So yeah, we've got a big list of places that we're gonna be touring for the foreseeable future."

Cody Simpson Wants 'To Be Like' Justin Timberlake

Posted: 11 Oct 2011 10:12 PM PDT

'He's just an all-around entertainer,' Simpson tells MTV News of JT.
By Christina Garibaldi

Photo: MTV News

Cody Simpson, the young Australian pop singer who is this week's MTV Push Artist, used to be just like any normal kid. He went to school, was on the swim team and enjoyed life in Australia. Fast-forward two years and the young teen heartthrob was discovered on YouTube, hooked up with Flo Rida for his first single, "iYiYi," just released his second EP, Coast to Coast, and is now putting the finishing touches on his debut album. Not too bad for a 14-year-old.

Even though people have already begun to compare the teenager to another young star, Justin Bieber, Simpson says his sound is all his own ... with maybe some of his favorite artists thrown in.

"I'd call it a Justin Timberlake mixed with Jack Johnson sort of vibe. There's a bunch of songs on there that are sort of like that," this week's MTV PUSH artist told MTV News. "Jack Johnson is an inspiration of mine. He's someone who definitely influences at least two songs from the EP."

The similarities to a young Timberlake are pretty clear, with his wavy blond hair, killer smile and songs that make young girls swoon. And it seems that Simpson is just fine with being compared to one of his idols.

"He has such a sophisticated presence," Simpson said of Timberlake. "I watched his FutureSex/LoveSounds tour, and it's something you really get inspired by. He does so much in the show: He plays piano and guitar and he just is always singing. He sounds amazing live and he dances great. He's just an all-around entertainer. That's something I want to strive to be. It's always good to have someone you want to be like."

But for now Simpson is concentrating on creating a name for himself. The young star has already worked with Ryan Tedder on a song called "I Found You" off his debut album, which he says will be out "early to middle of next year." If you can't wait until then, Simpson says his current EP has something for everyone.

"It's not just music that you'll like if you know who I am and if you're a fan of mine," he said. "I think there is something on there you'll enjoy no matter if you know that I'm a 14-year-old kid or not. I think it's just really genuinely like great music. I'm very excited we finally got to put it out and I'm very proud. Lots of work went into it."
