Shia LaBeouf Explains His Kid Cudi Connection

From the outside looking in, the friendship and working partnership that actor Shia LaBeouf and rapper Kid Cudi have established recently seems only slightly unlikely. However, upon closer examination of Cudi's track record in working with Hollywood types, and LaBeouf's relationship with "Maniac" featured performer Cage, their collaborations on two of Cudi's videos, "Maniac" and "Marijuana," isn't that unexpected.

When MTV News caught up with LaBeouf recently as he promoted "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," we asked the aspiring director how the Cudi/Cage/LaBeouf magic began with music, and how it ended with a trip to Amsterdam's infamous Cannabis Cup.

"[Cage] is one of my good friends. Cage, Chris Palko, and I had been trying to make a movie about him for a while," LaBeouf explained. "Cudi hit [Cage] up and did a song with him. Cage sent me the song, called 'Maniac,' so initially, we started prepping this video, which is really like a short horror movie that I made that comes out on Halloween," he said. "In the interim, while we were finishing up the effects on it, [Cudi] told me he was going to Amsterdam for the Cannabis Cup."

LaBeouf jumped at the chance to continue working with Cudi, and joked that a trip to the legendary land where cannabis is legal was too good to pass up.

"It's as big as Spielberg," he said with a laugh. "It is for a 25-year-old male who has all these crazy fantasies about Amsterdam, which every male my age has, there's that college trip you always want to take," he admitted. "And to do that with Cudi when he's a judge, and I get to roll with him with my 8mm camera [like] an 'Easy Rider' documentarian, I felt like Cameron Crowe or something."

Despite all the references to the drug, that trip and the clip that came from it are Cudi's send-off to smoking weed.

"It was almost like an R.I.P. video to my whole smoking career," Cudi told MTV News of the "Marijuana" clip earlier this month.

'Bad Teacher' Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

Posted: 24 Jun 2011 03:53 AM PDT

Before signing up for Cameron Diaz's class, study up with our fun facts.
By Eric Ditzian

Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake in "Bad Teacher"
Photo: Sony

It's been more than a month since "Bridesmaids" slayed us at the cinema. We're desperately in need of some hard-R laughs, a few gross-out moments that make us cringe, and the reminder that as crazy as we might be, we're not nearly as loco as the folks we're watching onscreen.

Thus, we say thanks to "Bad Teacher" as it floats, on a comedic cloud of profanity and penis jokes, into theaters. Cameron Diaz stars as Elizabeth Halsey, an educator less concerned with math lessons than she is in smoking pot and calculating her way into marriage with any filthy-rich doofus. She meets the perfect mark in Justin Timberlake's Scott Delacorte, a substitute teacher and a guy so freaking nice there's got be something wrong with him. And then we have Jason Segel's sly gym teacher; even though he's got the hots for Halsey, his paycheck doesn't have nearly enough digits to entice the leggy blonde.

But all this is just the setup. The punch comes in a series of outlandish events that, if we were to reveal them here, would just spoil the fun. What we can do is tell you everything you need to know about "Bad Teacher" before hitting the multiplex this weekend. That's where our cheat sheet comes into play.

Getting Ready for Class
News of the film, penned by "Office" scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, broke in December of 2009. Diaz had signed on, but the rest of the cast had yet to be filled out. That changed a few months later, when Timberlake and Segel hopped aboard. Though Diaz had formerly dated JT, the actress had no qualms about stepping in front of the camera with him.

"He's the best person for the job. He's going to be hilarious," she said. "He's clearly a very talented comedian; look at his 'Saturday Night Live' [skits]. He's fantastic. He's going to be so great."

School's in Session
Filming kicked off in March. Nearly a year later, a truly filthy red-band trailer popped up online, giving us a very clear idea of how truly terrible a teacher Diaz would be: "Are you f---ing kidding me?" she writes on a student's test.

While the comedy's raunchiness was no surprise, Timberlake's weirdo of a sub certainly was. As Diaz later explained to us, "He gives us a character that you have not seen yet before — not just him, but pretty much anyone. It's just a very interesting character and a lot of fun to watch. By the end of it, you're like, 'What is up with that dude?' It's hilarious."

The Final Exam
As part of our Summer Movie Preview Week, we debuted an exclusive photo of Diaz getting ready for a fundraising car wash unlike any that you might recall from your school days and also sat down for a chat with the woman herself.

"She's miserable. She's not happy with her world, and she doesn't pretend that she is," Diaz said of her character. "Her pain is real. She's living a very painful existence, so there's no humor to her in this."

Sure, she's a woman in pain. But there's also something liberating about the way she just doesn't give a hoot about anything. "I think that's why people love Elizabeth," Diaz told us at the film's premiere in New York City. "It's because everyone wants to be her, even for an hour, maybe a day. If you get away with a week — oh my gosh! I got to play her for six weeks. So yeah, it was a lot of fun."

"The first 30 pages, I'm like, 'I am not playing this. There is no way I can play this character. There [are] no redeeming qualities to this character,' " she recalled of the script in an earlier chat. "And by the end of it, I'm like, 'Oh my God, this is genius! There's no redeeming qualities to this character!' We got to the end of the script, and we're not apologizing for anything she said. It's a very modest arc."

Check out everything we've got on "Bad Teacher."

Britney Spears, Afrojack Remixes Put Moguai On The Dance Floor

'Lyve From Beta' DJ crafting another 'Beatport Essentials' sample pack.

Moguai is quickly becoming one of the hottest names in dance music. Midway through his most-recent Stateside jaunt, "Lyve From America," the German DJ and producer will hit Sin City this weekend for a set at the Palms' Rain Nightclub on Saturday, followed by the granddaddy of them all: opening the Circuit Grounds stage on the final evening of the Electric Daisy Carnival on Sunday.

But it wasn't always club tunes and chart-topping success for the Mau5trap signee, born André Tegeler, who not long ago was on a path that was more likely to put him in the courtroom than the DJ booth.

"I was in Germany, studying for my law examination," he recalled recently in Miami. "But at that same time, I hit my first official German chart, so I had to make a choice: Do I do this the serious or un-serious way? So I said, 'OK, go for the music!' "

Luckily for the EDM aficionados, he put his legal dreams aside and dove headfirst into sound production. And now, just a few years later, he's become an integral part of one of the world's hottest dance labels. Having joined forces with Sofi (as in Deadmau5's "Sofi Needs a Ladder") on "Beat of the Drum," who he first met literally minutes before our chat, Moguai hit big this year in Miami, and his infectious grooves have been spreading like wildfire ever since. With his latest solo release "Oxygen," a rework of Afrojack's club monster "Bangduck" due out July 4, and a massive remix of the new Britney Spears single "I Wanna Go" to be released shortly after, Moguai is quickly proving that he is as versatile as he is talented.

Coming off the success of "Lyve From Beta," a unique release that included all of the loops, samples and tools from his set at the renowned Denver nightclub, Moguai is busy crafting another sample-based Ableton-friendly release pack, "Beatport Essentials."

"It will have parts, so you can download the full audio and you can download the separate parts of what the tracks are made of," he explained. "You can see the pitch and the bpm, and you have lots of information about the music, so you can deal with it and handle it in whichever way you like."

While in the past, bedroom producers were tasked with slicing and dicing a master track from their favorite artists, the tech-savvy can now get their hands on individual song parts and re-interpret the tracks in their own style, something Beatport is hoping to do with more artists, Moguai said. He recalled how different his upbringing to the scene was compared with the technological advantages of today. With a bourgeoning tour schedule on the horizon, he's relieved that the age of the digital DJ allows him to travel light.

"It's nice, all of this software and all of these things, but I'm from this old-school generation. I'm coming from this vinyl business. I played so many years with only vinyl, and I paid so much traveling with vinyl to all of my gigs!" he recalled, laughing.

Will you be catching Moguai on tour? Tell us in the comments below!

Ryan Dunn's Drunk-Driving Death Too 'Common,' MADD Says

One out of three Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related crash in their lifetime, MADD tells MTV News.
By Gil Kaufman

The high-speed death of "Jackass" star Ryan Dunn on Monday is the latest harsh reminder of the deadly consequences of mixing alcohol and automobiles.

As the site of the crash that took the life of Dunn, 34, and his passenger, Zachary Hartwell, 30, transforms into a makeshift memorial and cautionary tale about the dangers of drinking and driving, experts told MTV News that these kinds of accidents are not unusual but totally preventable.

"In my experience, it's quite a common thing," said Jan Withers, president-elect of MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), whose 15-year-old daughter was killed when the drunk driver of the car she was riding in lost control of the vehicle. "A person has had several drinks, their judgment becomes impaired and so do their inhibitions. Their reaction time is slowed down, and so they can't react in time."

Accident-reconstruction teams have estimated that at around 2:30 a.m. Monday, Dunn, who a preliminary toxicology report shows was intoxicated, was driving his 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 between 132 and 140 mph in a 55 mph zone. The Porsche collided with a guardrail and went soaring through about 40 yards of trees before hitting one and bursting into flames.

According to the Chester County coroner's office, Dunn's blood alcohol level was .196, more than twice the .08 legal limit in Pennsylvania. The report also says there were no "drugs of abuse" detected in Dunn's system.

Dunn's family and friends, including "Jackass" stars Bam Margera and Johnny Knoxville, attended a private memorial service on Wednesday. A public service is expected to be announced at a later date.

The most crucial advice MADD offers to drivers is that if you are going out and alcohol will be involved, decide before you leave the house how you are going to get home by either being sober yourself or having a sober driver. "Before you have a drink, know how you will get home safely," Withers said, noting that 11,000 people a year are killed in drunk-driving crashes and that 350,000 people are injured every year as a result of drunk driving. In fact, she said, the grim truth is that one in three Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related crash in their lifetime.

The details of the Dunn crash — which was preceded by a celebration involving the "Jackass" star and his passenger — sounded sadly familiar to Withers. "It is [often] a situation where people go out and start celebrating and have a couple of drinks and think, 'I'm fine.' But in reality, people can't decide whether they're fine or not. Many people who are completely impaired think they are totally sober. They literally don't know."

Withers, who said her heart goes out to Dunn and Hartwell's family and friends, added that it is up to all of us to make sure these accidents are avoided. "It's your responsibility as their friend to make sure you take the keys away and find them a way home with a sober driver," she said. "It's absolutely essential that they don't get behind the wheel."

The coroner's report lists blunt force trauma and thermal trauma as the official causes of death for Dunn and Iraq war vet Hartwell, who was credited as a production assistant on "Jackass Number Two" and was working with Dunn on his new G4 show "Proving Ground."

Hours before the crash, Dunn tweeted a photo of himself, Hartwell and another man at Barnaby's of America, a West Chester bar. Official said on Wednesday that Barnaby's will not be charged in the case because Dunn did not "appear" intoxicated during the time he was served two beers and six shots by bar employees over four hours.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Wednesday that Dunn received at least 23 driving-related citations in the past 13 years, 90 percent of which ended in guilty pleas, including 10 stops for speeding and careless driving and three more for driving with a suspended license. In 2005, he was arrested for drunken driving, but charges were dropped when he completed a probationary program; his license was suspended for more than a year, according to court records.

Justin Bieber Rebounds From Fan Run-In At Fragrance Launch

NEW YORKJustin Bieber took over Herald Square in Manhattan on Thursday (June 23) as he greeted fans at a Macy's event for his women's fragrance, Someday. A legion of dedicated Beliebers lined up outside and gathered at the famed department store hoping to catch even a glimpse of the star.

When MTV News caught up with the Biebs, he told us how much he appreciated his fans' overwhelming enthusiasm.

"My fans are crazy. They wait out in the rain and anything, so they're crazy, they're awesome!" he said. "I just think that what we decided to do — making the fragrance for females, not getting a cologne for males — I said it before and I'll say it again, I'm more concerned about how girls smell 'cause I'm a guy and I know what smells good and I know what I like so girls should know, if [I like] it, then other guys are going to like it."

But some fans may have been too enthusiastic. While some fans (and press) were allowed to wait inside Macy's, many were still standing outside, and according to reports, one fan got a bit too excited when he saw Bieber. ABC News reported that one man jumped the barricade when he saw the singer, knocking him to the ground. Bieber wasn't hurt, though ABC said that he seemed "shaken" before he went right back to work and greeted more fans inside.

Once inside the store, Bieber seemed relaxed, sharing with us the nuances of designing a perfume for his fans. "I think cologne and perfume are different. Cologne is more kind of a body-wash-type smell and [perfume] is kind of flowery, fruity," he said, adding that mentor Usher, who has his own cologne brand, "didn't really give me any advice.

"There was a long process 'cause they brought it out on the road and stuff," he added of the fragrance, whose proceeds will go to charity. "I picked out the bottle and designed everything."

So what kind of cologne does Bieber use? "A bunch of different stuff; I switch it up all the time," he said.

Will you bag a bottle of Someday? Tell us in the comments!

Ryan Dunn's Death Reminds Fans 'You're Not Indestructible'

Visitors to 'Jackass' star's roadside vigil see firsthand 'what drinking and driving can do.'

WEST GOSHEN, Pennsylvania — Visitors who came in droves to the stretch of highway where Ryan Dunn's life ended said the deaths of the "Jackass" star and his passenger on Monday serve as a shocking warning that even someone as seemingly immortal as the daredevil couldn't survive the risk of drinking and driving.

"I hope a lot of kids in the community will see what happened to their role model. Maybe this sends a signal that you're not indestructible," said a West Goshen police officer, a father of two teens.

Laraine Livergood of Collegeville brought her three children to the crash site Wednesday night. "It shows what drinking and driving can do," she said. Daughter Valerie, a 15-year-old "Jackass" fan, called Dunn's death "heartbreaking." She and her two sisters, ages 11 and 8, taped a bright-orange poster board to the guardrail with the words, "RIP Ryan Dunn. We love you forever and always."

Dunn's family and friends, including "Jackass" stars Bam Margera and Johnny Knoxville, attended a private memorial service on Wednesday. A public service is expected to be announced at a later date.

A steady stream of fans, friends, family and those who are "just curious" have been stopping by at all times of day and night, police officer Joseph Burt said, displaying their love for the merry prankster with flowers, balloons, candles and dozens of Sharpie-scribbled messages on the guardrail.

Browse exclusive, on-scene photos of fan tributes to Dunn in Pennsylvania.

To ensure visitors' safety, officials were watching over the portion of the highway near the roadside vigil, which had been narrowed to one lane in each direction.

West Chester East High School student Tori Williams, 15, said that even though she knows accidents happen all the time, visiting the crash site left her shaken. "It makes me more scared to be a driver," she said.

The scene is disturbing: Skid marks on the highway lead to a long stretch of mangled trees that ends with a single, sturdy tree, blackened from top to bottom but still standing.

Joni Bradshaw, of West Chester, said she hopes young people learn a lesson from the tragedy: "Hopefully, it will teach these kids that you can't get behind the wheel and drive [after you've been drinking]," she said. "It causes nothing but problems and heartache for everyone."

Much to her dismay, her 18-year-old son, Will Bradshaw, said, "At least he went out having fun." Will admitted that even after a couple of his friends were killed while street racing three years ago, he and the rest of his peers have not been more careful when driving and probably won't be after this incident either. "People are gonna do what they're gonna do," he said matter-of-factly.

Chrissy Guthan, of Coatesville, agreed: "They shouldn't have been driving [drunk]. People do it all the time though. We've all done it," the 32-year-old confessed. "Sometimes, you don't make it back." Now that she's a mother, Guthan added, she avoids risky behavior. "But if I didn't have a kid, I'd probably still be doing it," she admitted.

According to the Chester County coroner's office, Dunn's blood alcohol level was .196, more than twice the .08 legal limit in Pennsylvania. The report also says there were no "drugs of abuse" detected in Dunn's system.

The coroner's report lists blunt force trauma and thermal trauma as the official causes of death for Dunn, 34, and his passenger, 30-year-old Iraq war vet Zachary Hartwell, who was credited as a production assistant on "Jackass Number Two" and was working with Dunn on his new G4 show, "Proving Ground."

In 2005, he was arrested for drunken driving, but charges were dropped when he completed a probationary program; his license was suspended for more than a year, according to court records.

"He drove too fast," April Margera, mother of Dunn's best friend and "Jackass" co-star Bam Margera, told the local NBC station Monday. "I yelled at him all the time about that."

Rakim, Backed By The Roots, Revisits <i>Paid In Full</i>

NEW YORKRakim is an MC who hails from the era of hip-hop when samples were the source of most of rap music's booming sounds. Wednesday night, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the iconic and influential MC's debut album, Paid in Full, Rakim performed his seminal classic in its entirety with Philadelphia group The Roots providing all the backing instrumentation.

MTV News caught up with "The R" and the Roots crew's Black Thought at legendary New York jazz club the Blue Note, where the show went down, to discuss the two acts linking up and hip-hop's embrace of live instruments.

"The Roots is hip-hop royalty right now," Rakim said. "From what they do, what they bring to the table, for them to holla at me, put this together, invite me out, that let me know, 'Yo, it's official.' Otherwise, they wouldn't. It's a good feeling to be around this long and still get that love."

Eric B. dropped Paid in Full with Rakim on July 9, 1987, according to the RIAA, but Wednesday night, Black Thought assisted the God MC onstage as the Roots re-created all of the album's beats with aplomb. The Long Island native performed songs from his classic album, such as "Eric B. is President" and "Move the Crowd."

The Roots, besides holding down duties as the in-house band for "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," have backed a number of prominent hip-hop acts in the past, including Jay-Z. While MCs being backed by live bands is now a common occurrence, the Roots remember clearly when that was not the case.

"Back then, I couldn't even imagine people taking hip-hop seriously being played with live instrumentation," Black Thought said. "When we first got our record deal, it was in the era of Nas and Wu-Tang Clan and Mobb Deep and B.I.G. — we was like the odd man out.

"Right now, hip-hop is as musical as it's ever been. I feel like that's a 360 degrees, man. From having to prove ourselves coming up to now it's a standard. It's almost unheard of to go out and do a tour ... without having a band. For young kids coming up, they don't know what it is to be in a realm of hip-hop without live instrumentation and musicality."

But even with hip-hop's constant musical advancement and development, Black Thought still counted the boom-bap rhythms and lyrical innovations of the night's special guest as a crucial inspiration, saying, "I wouldn't have pursued the craft the way I pursued it and linked up with [Roots drummer] ?uestlove had it not been for Ra's influence."

Shia LaBeouf Likens 'Transformers 2' To 'Apocalypse Now' Chaos

Posted: 23 Jun 2011 03:55 AM PDT

'Dark of the Moon,' however, was the first 'Transformers' film to have 'a fully sussed-out script,' star tells MTV News.
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Give Michael Bay and Shia LaBeouf credit for stepping up and admitting their cinematic gaffes. Both guys have owned up to the fact that 2009's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," despite nabbing more than $830 million at the worldwide box office, did not measure up to their popcorn aspirations.

"The second one, we had a tough go," Bay told us in February about shooting the film in the wake of the writers' strike. "It was a very, very tough thing to make a movie under those circumstances. It affected a lot of Hollywood at that time."

The key issue was the film was rushed into production without all the creative pieces fully in place; filmmakers had a huge budget but not exactly the clearest idea of the story they were trying to tell. In this sense, LaBeouf told MTV News recently in Moscow, the movie became Bay's "Apocalypse Now," the notoriously troubled, Francis Ford Coppola-directed Vietnam War film.

"[On] the second movie where we had our hiccups, there were good things, but there were more bad things," LaBeouf explained, going on to reference the documentary about the "Apocalypse" production. "Before I came out here, I watched 'Hearts of Darkness.' And in it, you have Francis Ford Coppola saying to camera, 'I have too much money, I have no script, and I'm going to shoot myself in the head.' "

LaBeouf went on to make clear he wasn't comparing his summer tentpole to that classic war film, only "the conundrum," as he put it, of undertaking a sprawling project under less-than-organized circumstances. "[It was] very similar in terms of Coppola and Mike on set," he continued. "And the insanity of the second movie."

Production on "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," the third film in the franchise, which hits theaters Wednesday, couldn't have been more different than the second. "This was the first time we've had a fully sussed-out script, with a strong through line and the best plot and arc [LaBeouf's character] Sam has ever had," the actor said. "And it's also simple in the places you want it to be and not complicated. I think the second movie you got convoluted, complicated action where you can't enjoy it. You don't know whose elbow is what, or whose face is getting impaled. You don't know who the enemy is, you don't know who the hero is. You get lost. [Bay] simplified all his action, so that you can thoroughly enjoy it and his simplification of the movie, we benefited greatly from it."

The result, as LaBeouf told us at the MTV Movie Awards, is what he views as the finest installment in the franchise. But that doesn't mean he'll be returning for a fourth go-round. Reiterating a sentiment he conveyed to us at the MTV Movie Awards earlier this month, "Dark of the Moon" will be his final "Transformers" movie.

"I've learned a great deal from Michael, as a person, as an actor. As a person on his sets, you learn a lot," he said. "And it's not that I don't enjoy working with Michael. I love working with Michael. I would do any movie Michael wants to do. I just don't think there's anywhere to take it Sam."

Check out everything we've got on "Transformers: Dark of the Moon."

Lindsay Lohan Dodges Jail After Probation 'Violation'

Judge rules that under plea terms, actress was no longer required to undergo alcohol testing.

Despite reports that she violated her probation from a 2007 DUI case by testing positive for alcohol this month, troubled actress Lindsay Lohan was able to avoid getting sent back to jail yet again on Thursday (June 23) when she appeared in court on the allegations.

In this case, the actress dodged a legal bullet on a technicality, one that will seemingly allow her to serve out the rest of her home confinement on a recent misdemeanor theft charge without having to go behind bars. TMZ reported that judge Stephanie Sautner ruled on Thursday that the prior judge in the case only required controlled-substance testing from January 3 to February 25 of this year.

According to the site, Lohan's probation report made a strong recommendation that the actress be sent back to jail because she seems unable to stop partying. The report, submitted to Judge Sautner, says that Lohan failed an alcohol test on June 13 — the day after she was photographed partying on the roof of her Venice, California condo with friends — and also refused two prior drug tests, on May 31 and June 2; it noted that she passed another drug test on June 9.

"The defendant's behavior indicates she is not attempting to change. It appears that the defendant does not view being on the electronic monitoring program as a privilege," wrote her probation officer, who recommended that Lohan should serve "suitable time in custody" as a result of the alleged violations.

As a result of the information in the report, Sautner said Lohan is now restricted to having one friend at a time at her Venice loft, in addition to family members, and no parties, for the remainder of her house arrest. Sautner said the only thing Lohan was guilty of was "extremely poor judgment."

In an unusual twist, the hearing also revealed that the probation department can't test Lohan for drugs or alcohol anymore because there is no court order allowing them to do so, which appears to clear the way for the rehab veteran to consume alcohol again as long as she doesn't drive after drinking.

Lohan's lawyer could not be reached for comment on Thursday's proceedings at press time.

Chris Brown Latest Celeb To Apologize For Using Gay Slur

Posted: 22 Jun 2011 11:32 PM PDT

Cee Lo Green, Tracy Morgan and Blake Shelton have also issued mea culpas recently for seemingly homophobic comments.
By Gil Kaufman

On Wednesday, Chris Brown became the latest celebrity to apologize to the LGBT community for using a gay slur in anger. The singer issued a Twitter mea culpa for an incident on Tuesday in which he lashed out at several photographers in Los Angeles whom he believed had tipped off parking-enforcement officers to his illegally parked car, saying, "Y'all n---as is weak. Did you call them to try and film me? Y'all n---as is gay!"

The comments came just days after comedian Tracy Morgan met with LGBT youth in New York following his anti-gay rant during a recent stand-up appearance, which earned the "30 Rock" star widespread scorn from the gay community for his seeming advocacy of violence against gay youth.

The Human Rights Campaign told TMZ that "invoking words to demean gay Americans is just plain unacceptable ... Brown should know better."

Brown, who has made outrageous digital comments before — including a homophobic attack on former B2K singer Raz B in December — only to ask forgiveness for them a short time later, issued an apology on Twitter on Wednesday night, writing, "I have total respect for Gay community and my intention was not to insult anyone in it."

A spokesperson for Brown could not be reached for comment at press time.

Herndon Graddick, senior director of programs for GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), told MTV News that while it may seem like this kind of casual homophobia is on the rise, what we're seeing might simply be a result of the increasingly interconnected nature of our society. "People are being filmed while getting a parking ticket and commenting on Twitter and there's more opportunity for the things celebrities say to reach the public," he said. "But I think celebrities and people in the public eye are also increasingly cognizant that they have to respect all of their fans, and when things happen, they have an interest in correcting that behavior."

Brown is certainly not alone in using words that may hurt some of his fans. Two members of the celebrity judging panel on NBC's hit reality singing show "The Voice" have also issued apologies recently for using anti-gay slurs. After a performance with Rihanna in Minneapolis last week, Cee Lo Green posted a Twitter response to a negative review by critic Andrea Swensson, writing, "I respect your criticism, but be fair! People enjoyed last night! I'm guessing you're gay? And my masculinity offended you? Well f--- you!"

After the rant went viral, Green issued a public apology, telling Us Weekly, "I most certainly am not harboring any sort of negative feeling toward the gay community. I don't have an opinion on people with different religious, sexual or political preferences," said Green, who added that he assumed the critic would understand that his comments were "all in good fun" and that he didn't mean any harm. "I'm one of the most liberal artists that I think you will ever meet, and I pride myself on that. Two of the remaining members that I have on my team on 'The Voice' are proud and outspokenly gay. We just did a team performance of 'Everyday People,' and I picked that song for us to do specifically to highlight how we can get along even though we're so different."

Similarly, fellow judge Blake Shelton landed in hot water last month when he tweeted the comment, "Re-writing my fav Shania Twain song ... Any man that tries touching my behind he's gonna be a beaten, bleedin', heaving kind of guy." The original lyrics are, "Any man of mine better walk the line/ Better show me a teasin', squeezin', pleasin' kinda time." GLAAD weighed in, suggesting that Shelton's comments sounded like a threat against any man who took a pass at him and demanded an apology.

Shelton quickly recanted in a series of tweets, writing, "Hey y'all allow me to seriously apologize for the misunderstanding with the whole re-write on the Shania song last night ... It honestly wasn't even meant that way... I now know that [there] are people out there waiting to jump at everything I say on here or anywhere ... But when it comes to gay/lesbian rights or just feelings ... I love everybody. So go look for a real villain and leave me out of it!!!"

After communicating with GLAAD, Shelton posted this final tweet: "@glaad hey I want my fans and @nbcthevoice fans to know that anti-gay and lesbian violence is unacceptable!!!!! Help me!!!! And DM me.."

Graddick said that with an American public that is more supportive of gay people than ever, not to mention more aware of the impact of harmful language, for better or worse, celebrities are often looked to to set the standard for acceptable behavior. "I think that language can be homophobic and people can as well," he said. "I'm not going to judge the intent of what [Brown] was saying; he was clearly pissed about a parking ticket. But his intent is less important than the actual impact. When people hear other people use the kind of language that makes 'gay' equivalent to 'bad,' it communicates a message, and it's important that people are aware of that. I don't think every time anyone has spoken those words their personal viewpoint is homophobic, but the impact can be damaging."

The string of public anti-gay slurs has also included a number of sports figures, such as Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, who was fined $100,000 for yelling anti-gay slurs at a referee in April, and the Chicago Bulls' Joakim Noah, who was fined $50,000 in May for directing an anti-gay slur at a fan during game three of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Evanescence Return With 'Dark, Beautiful' Self-Titled Album

Amy Lee tells MTV News that the band's new album, due October 4, is full of songs that are 'painful' and 'desperate.'
By James Montgomery

It's been nearly four years since Evanescence wrapped the tour in support of their last album, The Open Door. In that time, singer Amy Lee has been hard at work doing anything but fronting a globally successful rock act. Sure, she wrote some songs along the way, but mostly, her focus was on being, as she puts it, "a normal person." And, yes, she enjoyed every minute of it.

"I would buy groceries, I thought about teaching kids music ... I just needed to get away from it. My entire adult life, until a couple years ago, was all about this," she told MTV News. "When I just turned 18, I got signed. I quit college, and we just moved into a house together and just started cramming to do whatever we needed to do to make it. And then we went to L.A., and the label had us up there doing artist development for a couple years, and then we were on tour and it went big fast, and then right after touring behind Fallen, we started writing again right away. ... I just wanted to be a normal person for a minute, before I was 50 years old.

"I got married and we were in the middle of a tour — I had, like, one week off, and then we went straight back on tour — and there was plenty of stuff that went on in that time; there was drama ... there's always freaking drama," she continued. "So we get towards the end of it, and I was like, 'Guys, I don't know about this. I need a break.' I just wanted to be normal; I didn't want to think about the next thing for as long as it took."

And considering how hard she worked at avoiding Evanescence, it's ironic that all it took was a single show with the band — a 2009 warm-up gig for a headlining spot at the Maquinária festival in Brazil — to remind her of just how much she missed her former life. And from that moment on, things changed.

"I had to get back together with all the guys, and we practiced all the old stuff, getting a set together, and I enjoyed it so much. I started falling back in love with ... that part of me, the Evanescence part," she said. "I'd kind of been doing everything else, writing-wise, by myself, and I was like, 'Oh yeah, I love this stuff too. Maybe we should all make a record!' "

So, recharged, Evanescence did just that, heading to Blackbird Studio in Nashville to work with producer Nick Raskulinecz on the follow-up to The Open Door. They've nearly finished — Lee said there are currently 16 songs at or near completion — and earlier this week, their longtime label, Wind-up Records announced that the album would be hitting stores October 4.

Lee told MTV News that the new album will be self-titled, a decision that's not only symbolic, but an all-out statement too.

"It's about the band; it's more of a band record. But I started thinking about it, and it's also that this whole record and the lyrical content and a lot of the things that it's about to me is about falling back in love with this thing, with Evanescence, with what I've obsessed over for a decade, longer than that," she said. "And it took me a minute, I definitely stepped away from it in a big way, and went, 'OK, guys, I don't know what we're going to do. I don't know what's going to happen here. Let's just live our lives for a while and see what happens next.' "

And while it's difficult for Lee to describe just how the new songs sound ("It's epic, it's dark, it's big, it's beautiful ... all of those things," she laughed), she knows exactly how they make her feel — and after such a long time away from the group, that's more important to her than anything else.

"There's a huge body of work right now, 16 songs, and obviously not all of them can be on the record, and that's going to be a heartbreaking moment. But, for me, when I listen to them, it's a journey," she said. "It takes you on an emotional ride ... it takes you to a lot of different places, emotionally. It makes me feel really happy, because even the songs that are desperate, like, those desperate feelings were turned into something beautiful and productive and great. There's songs that are painful, but listening to them makes me feel so good, because I took that pain and made it out of it by using music as an outlet and turning it into something great, moving on with my life, being productive instead of sitting around in a rut."

'True Blood' Rookies Introduce Their New Characters

Vedette Lim, Fiona Shaw, Janina Gavankar and more newbies give us the low-down.

For all the "True Blood" fans out there, the wait from the end of one season to the start of a new one can be quite grueling. So much so that HBO employed the Twitter hashtag #waitingsucks in its "True Blood" marketing campaigns — and fans couldn't agree more.

Luckily, the waiting game is about to end with the premiere of the fourth season on HBO this Sunday. MTV News spent some quality time with the cast at the show's premiere earlier this week, where we asked the newest faces of "True Blood" to introduce themselves to fans. Very minor spoilers ahead.

"I play Naomi, I am a good friend of Tara," newcomer Vedette Lim told us. And be advised to take Lim's use of "friend of Tara" loosely. "I'm a cage fighter, clearly," she added, showing off her not-so-intimidating guns.

"I'm a vampire, if you can see the pale skin," said Aaron Perilo, who plays devious Blackburn. "I'm pretty old so I'm very fast. I kind of have an attitude — I don't know if that's a talent. I have a bloodthirsty attitude where I like to get in trouble." Sounds like he'll fit right in then!

Next up is legendary actress Fiona Shaw, whose résumé is too lengthy to list, but many may recognize her from her recent work as Petunia Dursley in the "Harry Potter" film franchise. Shaw plays a very dedicated witch and coven leader Marnie. She's also already a cast favorite. Her work is so convincing that many of her "True Blood" co-stars claimed to be officially obsessed with her.

"Marnie is a witch. She's not a very good witch, but she becomes a very powerful witch as the thing goes on," Shaw explained. "It's been very interesting for me to play someone so out there, so weird, so lonely, so desperate, so isolated. It's been a very big challenge, the lack of vanity to really go there, and I think I have done that."

Three other witches to look out for are Roy, Casey and Antonia, played by Dean Chekvala, Fiona Dourif and Paola Turbay, respectively. Roy and Casey are a part of Marnie's coven, while Antonia is the more mysterious and possibly dangerous presence.

"[Antonia] is a witch from the era of the Inquisition," Turbay revealed. "Her spirit is haunting the vampires, and she's around and she's causing a lot of trouble."

Last but certainly not least is Luna, a new shape-shifter and potential romantic interest for everyone's favorite bar owner Sam Merlotte.

"She is also a schoolteacher by day, shape-shifter by night," Janina Gavankar said of her character. "She is a nice girl with a big old past," added Gavankar, whom you might recognize from other TV roles on "The League" and the short-lived "Traffic Light." "[She] is just trying to do the right thing and be drama-free and keep it together and live a simple life in Bon Temps."

Red Hot Chili Peppers' New Video To Be Directed By ... Kreayshawn?

RHCP will film 'The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie' clip with up-and-coming 'Gucci Gucci' rapper.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers' debut album was released in 1984, a full five years before Bay Area "based goddess" Kreayshawn made her debut as a human being. Yet that's not stopping the two sides from joining forces on RHCP's new "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" video, which Kreay will direct.

That's according to reps for each act's respective labels (Warner Bros. and Columbia), who confirmed the collaboration to MTV News. "Maggie" is the first single from the Chili Peppers' much-anticipated I'm With You, their first studio album in more than five years.

Details on the video are scarce, and while the idea of Kreayshawn — the rapper who recently became the subject of an intense bidding war between labels thanks to her Internet smash "Gucci Gucci" — directing a video for the Red Hot Chili Peppers might seem like a rather interesting choice for the iconic group, she's actually been making clips for years (mostly notably for Lil B) and reportedly attended the Berkeley film school.

In fact, part of the reason Kreayshawn decided to ink a deal with Columbia Records was because they agreed to let her continue to make music videos, as she told MTV News earlier this month.

"Columbia was the best just because they were like, 'We want you to do exactly what you've been doing,' which is, like, I've been directing music videos, so they were like, 'We want you to keep doing that,' " she said. "You know, I do a little graphic design, and they had me make my own logo, you know?"

What do you think about Kreayshawn directing the Chili Peppers' new video? Let us know in the comments!

Director Chris Marrs Piliero talks about working with Brit and his favorite scene from the fun clip.

Britney Spears looks like she's having a blast in her new "I Wanna Go" video. It's full of fun pop-culture references and has Brit seeking vengeance against the paparazzi. Now, the director of the kitschy clip, Chris Marrs Piliero, has opened up about working with the pop megastar.

"Meeting Britney for the first time was really rad. She was really cool. I don't think anyone has the right to be a diva, but there are some artists out there, they've been in the game long enough [that] if any one of those artists ... might have the permission to be a diva, she definitely has earned it — and she wasn't whatsoever," he told the MTV Buzzworthy blog.

So what's Spears like? "She's super polite; she's ridiculously polite. She's soft-spoken," he said. "She's really cute. The way she talks and interacts, you want to hug her. She was super professional, super game. ... It was rad. It was awesome working with her. She's a rad chick."

Another highlight of the shoot for Piliero was working with "Weeds" star Guillermo Diaz on one of the final scenes. In the last part of the video, Spears and the actor are riding in a convertible in the desert as Brit dances around. Diaz displays his comedic chops by doing things like pouring milk all over himself.

"It was definitely a funny moment of the shoot. We let the cameras roll, and the reaction that you see from Britney is definitely a genuine reaction," the director recalled. "When I was going through the footage, I loved the way that she responded. It's so genuine and so funny. It's perfect [and] it definitely is a perfect description of how we all felt about that scene."

Pottermore: Our Top-Five Wish List For J.K. Rowling's New Site

'Harry Potter' author's site is still cloaked in mystery, but there are a few things we'd like to see on her Web creation.
By Kara Warner

There's a lot of "Harry Potter"-related excitement going around these days, what with the release of the eighth and final film, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" in just a few weeks, and our own Harry Potter World Cup heating up. And on Thursday morning (June 23) in London, "Potter" creator J.K. Rowling made an official announcement about the mysterious "Pottermore" project she introduced last week.

Pottermore.com will deliver a free, online reading experience including, according to a press release, "extensive new material about the characters, places and objects in the much-loved stories" and a digital capability in which "the storyline will be brought to life with sumptuous newly commissioned illustrations and interactive 'Moments' through which you can navigate."

"[It's] a way I can be creative in a medium that didn't exist when I started the books back in 1990," Rowling told reporters during the press conference.

Vote in the Harry Potter World Cup here!

That's exciting stuff for "Potter" fans, considering the books have long since been completed and the final film hits theaters this summer. But at this point, with no Muggle having yet explored the site, we don't know exactly what Pottermore will offer. Here are five things we hope we can see and do while playing in Rowling's latest fantastical creation — now or in the future.

Open Class/Character Development System

No matter your house, heritage or O.W.L. scores, with the appropriate amount of training or playing time, you too can become an esteemed member of the wizarding community. No matter how basic or inexperienced you are when you begin exploring "Pottermore," there should be opportunities for advancement and/or shifting skill sets. If you want to be an animagus, an auror, a healer, or even a professional Quidditch player, you need only put in the time.

Quidditch

Speaking of professional Quidditch players, there ought to be a recreational area in "Pottermore" where characters learn, play and eventually compete against one another at the hugely popular game. Instead of pitting competitors and teams against one another based solely on their houses, it would be great for players to be able to assemble themselves into teams.

Virtual Place to Unwind, Be Entertained

One of the main reasons Rowling's masterworks have so many millions of fans is because she's created a world so magical and alluring that we all dream of apparating into the Three Broomsticks for a butterbeer or taking a walk through Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. It would be great if Pottermore featured a competition-free area for socializing in and around virtual versions of Rowling's most beloved fictional shops and assorted hotspots.

Annual "Pottermore" Gatherings

Although Universal's Wizarding World of Harry Potter is currently a perfect place to mix and mingle with fellow Potterphiles, we would love an annual event in the vein of GenCon or Comic-Con, where fans from all over the world meet to share in everything Harry Potter. In addition to pointed panel discussions on a variety of subjects, why not also host a few live action duels in the spirit of the tri-wizard tournament? Maybe an attempt at a grounded game of Quidditch or two?

Special Guest Stars And/Or Participants

It's nearly impossible to assemble the entire "Harry Potter" film casts for "Pottermore" participation, but perhaps before they all move on from their Potter associations, the actors can record special interactive greetings and messages, to be carefully placed throughout "Pottermore"? Maybe Daniel Radcliffe and company can pre-record video messages of encouragement for players? Alan Rickman could instruct a brief beginner-level Defense Against the Dark Arts Class? We'll even settle for video clips from the movies popping up every now and again. Also, if Rowling is taking the time to make this special announcement, we're hoping she's going to stay involved enough that she'll consider recording some messages as well.

So what did we miss? What do you want from Pottermore? Tell us in the comments!

Check out everything we've got on "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2."

Dee-1 Has A Message For Jay-Z, 50 and Lil Wayne

'I wasn't gonna write it as a dis song to try to go at their necks,' Dee-1 tells Mixtape Daily of his breakout single.
By Rob Markman

Fire Starter: Dee-1
Dee-1 is no dummy. The New Orleans native and Louisiana State University grad picked up rapping as a hobby in his college dorm room and devised a plan to get paid. It may have taken a little longer than expected but the former middle-school teacher left the classroom and has learned a new hustle through hip-hop.

"I first started wanting to rap as just a hobby when I first started college. I didn't really have anything better to do with my time, so I was like, 'Let me just freestyle around my dorm room with my boys,' " Dee-1 told Mixtape Daily. "But once I realized I was good at it, I started to take it more serious. I was like, 'You know what? I have a voice that can be used to entertain people but also to inspire change, in a good way.' "

Dee-1 took his yearning for change and applied it to his 2010 outspoken single "Jay, 50 & Weezy." In the song, the young MC holds an imaginary conversation with Hov, 50 Cent and Lil Wayne, questioning their subject matter. The track helped put him on the map partly because of the sheer audacity that he displayed by calling out three of the game's biggest rappers, but mostly because of the song's strong message. "I wrote that record when I was still teaching middle school, so every single day, I'm face to face with the kids who are influenced by these brothers. I see how much they want to walk like them, talk like them, just be like them," he explained.

Through his experience as a teacher, Dee-1 saw firsthand that rappers are in fact role models. Bold? Yes, but Dee stops short of labeling the track a dis record. "I don't know if you can tell by looking at me but I'm not an intimidating type of guy or violent dude, so I wasn't gonna write it as a dis song to try to go at their necks," he said. "But I'm also not a scary man; I'm very bold and very confident in the person that God made me."

That confidence has translated to his work. In March, Dee-1 dropped his fifth mixtape, I Hope They Hear Me, Vol. 2, to much online fanfare and he recently toured with Killer Mike, Young Dro and Pac Div. The grind is paying off so far, and the N.O. representative has already taken meetings with Universal, Jive and Atlantic, though he's in no rush to sign.

"The patience comes from having a purpose, and my purpose is to have longevity in the game," he said. "If I was desperate for a check right now, like if I just wanted a $100,000 to put in my pocket, I might have signed by this time. But I'm not that desperate and I'm not hurting for money."

Smart man!

Michelle Obama's Africa Trip: The Inside Story In South Africa

The first lady meets with 76 young female leaders committed to helping women shape their countries' future.

All this week, first lady Michelle Obama has been touring Africa with her mother and daughters as part of her ongoing work to engage and empower young people at home and abroad. Journalist Lola Ogunnaike has been covering the entire trip for BET as part of an upcoming special, "Impact on Africa: On a Mission With the First Lady." On Wednesday evening, Ogunnaike called up MTV News to give us insight and exclusive information about the experience. These are her words.

I have to say, first lady Michelle Obama has the energy of a Duracell bunny. She's been running since she touched down in South Africa. We've been to the Regina Mundi church, which is the largest Catholic church in all of South Africa. We've been to the Nelson Mandela Foundation. She laid a wreath at the Hector Peterson Museum. Hector Peterson was the first person to be killed at the 1976 Soweto uprising in South Africa. She visited the first lady of South Africa. She's gone to the U.S. Embassy. She went to a community garden and the Rosa Parks library. She danced and played with preschoolers and read them "Cat in the Hat."

It's just been a whirlwind. And everywhere we've gone, people have been chanting her name. The kids have been singing, "Mrs. Obama, Mrs. Obama!" The outpouring has been incredible. There's a palpable energy in the air.

The Apartheid Museum was the last stop on the first lady's tour on Tuesday. We watched her and her family stroll through the place. She spent the better part of an hour quietly taking in everything that surrounded her. One of the places that really seemed to intrigue the family was a Nelson Mandela wing, and in there is the red Mercedes that was given to him, boxing gloves, pictures, video testimonials. She was there with her entire family, including her mother, her nephew and niece, and her two daughters. It was an emotional and educational visit for the whole family.

The first lady also met with 76 young female leaders from around Sub-Saharan Africa. When you walked into the room, you saw these girls lined up on risers. They looked like an eclectic choral group. They were from places like Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa — anywhere you can imagine. And the one thing that linked them was their commitment to making sure that women are empowered and women are going to shape the destiny of the continent.

They were so poised and so elegant, but when Michelle Obama walked in, they just lost it! They were so excited. They started clapping and singing. One of the most significant things the first lady said to those ladies was, "I want my daughters to grow up to be just like you."

It was a simple and powerful statement. But to me it said that she is wholly invested in these women and wholly invested in this idea that these young women will not only change the future of this continent but also have the potential to change the future of the world. And she wants her daughters to emulate them.

Weezy reveals to XXL that the Swizz Beatz collabo was intended for 2008's Tha Carter III.

Lil Wayne is his own biggest critic. Although the Swizz Beatz-produced "Dear Anne (Stan Part 2)" leaked online weeks ago to generally positive reviews, Lil Tunechi is not particularly fond of the song.

Swizz Beatz talked to Mixtape Daily about his collaboration with Weezy last year, mentioning that the song's beat was originally intended for Eminem. But after Em passed on recording a "Stan 2" for his Recovery album, Weezy recorded the song and Swizz hoped to include it on his upcoming Haute Living album. However, Weezy told XXL that "Dear Anne" is a holdover from his multiplatinum 2008 album.

"That was actually a record for Tha Carter III that just leaked," Wayne told the magazine. "It leaked out, and everybody's thinking that it's going on Tha Carter IV 'cause I was actually gonna put it on Tha Carter IV. But I had been listening to it and didn't like it. I don't like it 'cause the song, all the verses are old. And me being a perfectionist, I hate going with old verses."

Despite Wayne's trepidation, some heads in his YMCMB camp think the song should be a go. "Mack and Tez and them, they love it," Wayne said, referring to Young Money president/artist Mack Maine and his manager Cortez Bryant, respectively. "They be like, 'Man, you trippin', you killed it.' I be like, 'Did you hear what I just said? I don't wanna do that anymore.' But I heard that the 'Anne' song has been getting buzzed up and everybody's buzzin' about it, so it might end up one of those you might have to put on the album, you know what I mean. But I ain't trippin' on it like that; I don't like the song. I love the beat; I love the idea. I don't like my execution. I don't like what I did. I don't like how I delivered on it. The idea that I had for it, I didn't accomplish that, what I thought I was gonna do. 'Cause I was tryna make it a situation song. And I just don't like it."

Wayne may have to decide whether "Dear Anne" makes the cut sooner than later. Reportedly, the "How to Love" rapper's long-delayed Tha Carter IV's release date has been moved up by a week to August 22.

Lil Wayne is on the cover of XXL magazine's July/August 2011 issue, hitting newsstands July 12.

WEST CHESTER, Pennsylvania — Hundreds of Ryan Dunn's friends and family members flooded a suburban Philadelphia funeral home Wednesday for a private memorial service to honor the "Jackass" star, who was killed in a fiery car crash early Monday morning.

Described as "a celebration of Dunn's life," the service in West Chester, Pennsylvania, lasted more than four hours. The daredevil's famous friends who gathered included best friend and "Jackass" cohort Bam Margera — who attended with his wife, Missy, and parents, Phil and April Margera — Johnny Knoxville and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" actors Glenn Howerton and Rob McElhenney.

The Kings of Leon, who became close with Dunn last year, also paid tribute to the star Wednesday night during their show in London's Hyde Park. Frontman Caleb Followill asked the audience to toast "a friend of ours who's passed away," adding, "This is for Ryan," before playing "McFearless," from 2007's Because of the Times.

Earlier in the week, bassist Jared Followill tweeted, "I'm heartbroken to say that our great friend we made over the last 8 months has passed away. Honestly in shock. Devastated. RIP Ryan Dunn."

Accident-reconstruction teams have estimated Dunn's 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 was traveling between 132 and 140 mph in a 55 mph zone when it collided with a guardrail around 2:30 a.m. Monday. The Porsche then went soaring through about 40 yards of trees before hitting one and bursting into flames.

Dunn, who recently celebrated his 34th birthday, will reportedly be buried in Ohio, where he was born. The website for the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith and Boyd funeral home, where the service was held, says a public memorial will be announced at a later date. Dunn's obituary requests contributions be sent to Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids, a foundation the country singer started in 1999 to raise money for children's charities.

On Tuesday, a very-distraught Bam Margera spoke to a local Fox affiliate, telling a reporter, "I've never lost anybody that I care about; he's my best friend.

"He was the happiest person, the smartest guy with so much talent," he continued. "He had so many things going for him. ... It is not right."

Bam's mother said she considered Dunn her son. "He's gonna be really missed by everybody," April Margera told NBC News on Tuesday. "[I'm] sick because it's a waste, sick because I loved him, sick because he was talented, sick because I can't believe he's gone."

The "Today" show reported that Dunn's family members flew to West Chester from Ohio and Florida to plan his funeral, telling NBC News, "We are devastated by the loss. Ryan will be greatly missed, but he will forever be in our hearts."

According to a preliminary toxicology report by the Chester County coroner's office, Dunn's blood alcohol level was 0.196, more than twice the 0.08 legal limit in Pennsylvania. The report also says there were no "drugs of abuse" detected in Dunn's system.

The coroner's report lists blunt force trauma and thermal trauma as the official causes of death for Dunn and his passenger, 30-year-old Iraq war vet Zachary Hartwell, who was credited as a production assistant on "Jackass Number Two" and was working with Dunn on his new G4 show, "Proving Ground."

Dunn grew up in New York before moving to West Chester, where he hooked up with Bam's CKY crew. He kicked off his career doing stunts and skateboard tricks in a series of online videos, which eventually led to his part in MTV's "Jackass" in 2000. He also appeared on "Viva La Bam" and "Bam's Unholy Union," in addition to the three big-screen "Jackass" adaptations. He was the star of his own short-lived MTV show, "Homewrecker," and co-hosted G4's "Proving Ground," which premiered last week but has since been pulled off the network's schedule.
