Katy Perry's 'Last Friday Night' A 'Bold' Video

There are many stars in Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night" video, but perhaps none as sparkling as Katy herself, who director Marc Klasfeld said had fun playing dorky Kathy Beth Terry.

"I thought it was really bold of Katy, who is such a sex symbol, to try something like this, but I also knew it would be received very well if done right. I worked with Katy on 3OH!3's 'Starstrukk' and knew she could pull off comedy. And she is actually an incredible actress who dove into this Kathy Beth role with reckless abandon," he told MTV News about the colorful romp. "I really hope other artists take Katy's lead and try to not take themselves so seriously all the time. Sometimes, fun can be cool too."

Speaking of fun, Hanson, Kenny G and two "Glee" stars are hardly the only celebs that made the final cut, Klasfeld shares. "One more random celebrity fact that added to the video is that the video was shot at ['Dukes of Hazzard' actor] John Schneider's house," he revealed. "That added a special spirit to the piece. He's got a pretty wicked house with all this classic 'Dukes of Hazzard' stuff up on the walls. John and his family were away for the weekend, thankfully, 'cause the house really did look trashed when we were shooting. We had a great art department who cleaned it up though and made it look brand-new."

Klasfeld was asked to turn Perry's goofy Teen Choice Awards character into the lead for the video, and from there it all took off. "Having done many comedic music videos, I was immediately into it and wrote something up," he said. "With Katy having four #1 singles, I wanted to make this fifth one into an event like Michael Jackson used to do.

"The inspiration was obviously John Hughes, but also a lot of my own music videos that I did for Alien Ant Farm, Sum 41, Nelly and others," he continued. "I always enjoy making these pop-culture mash-ups where comedy and random celebrities get mixed with the music into this brand-new thing."

Maino, N.O.R.E. Laugh Over Summer Jam Fly Incident

Hot 97's Summer Jam has provided the tri-state area with a number of memorable moments. Who could forget when Jay-Z brought out Michael Jackson, or when he clowned Prodigy by putting an embarrassing picture of the Mobb Deep rapper on the Giants Stadium screen? 50 Cent mocked R. Kelly onstage in 2004, and Swizz Beatz and Kanye West had an old-fashioned sound clash in 2007. For Brooklyn rapper Maino, his favorite Summer Jam moment took place backstage, away from the crowd's gaze. While the "Hi Hater" rapper was small on the specifics, he told Mixtape Daily that it involved rapper N.O.R.E., an insect and vomit.

"I saw N.O.R.E. throw up. He said, 'Yo, a fly went in my mouth,' " Maino recalled before laughing uncontrollably about the 2008 incident. "We were backstage and they was doin' 'Banned From TV,' and this was the first year that I was there. I had just got off the stage with Alicia Keys, and he came out with D-Block and he did 'Banned From TV.' It was crazy."

N.O.R.E. confirmed the story: "Yeah, I threw up, yo. A fly flew in my mouth. This was my first Summer Jam in four or five years, so I'm rhyming. As I'm rhyming a f---ing fly goes in my throat."

Appearing as a guest on D-Block's set, N.O.R.E. came out to perform his classic posse cut "Banned From TV." As the Queens rapper recited his verse, he swallowed the insect, causing him to vomit as soon as he got backstage.

"I was fiendin' so much for the look, I just kept going," he recalled. "Then I got off the stage and I threw up."

N.O.R.E., who is currently on a mission to lose weight, said that if he had been in better shape, he might have been able to avoid the fly: "I'm not saying that I threw up because I was big, I threw up because a fly went in my mouth, but my recovery time wasn't that quick."

No matter the reason, fans can file this one under "Funny, but true": "He is absolutely telling the truth," N.O.R.E. said. "Maino is not lying."

It's a boy for actress Natalie Portman! The Oscar winner and her choreographer fiancé Benjamin Millepied welcomed their first child on Tuesday (June 14), according to People magazine.

It's been quite a whirlwind for Portman, who made her biggest splash yet in Hollywood last year with her award-winning turn in "Black Swan," delighting the media with each awards-show appearance and ever-growing baby bump.

Send Natalie Portman Well Wishes on Facebook!

The 30-year-old is known for being tight-lipped about her private life. As such, the most she expressed publicly about her pregnancy and engagement were short sentences of joy. "I am indescribably happy and feel very grateful to have this experience," she told Entertainment Weekly back in December.

When MTV News caught up with Portman as she promoted her romantic comedy "No Strings Attached," the actress revealed that she was overwhelmed by the support she'd received from her friends, family and total strangers.

"It's very positive interactions, I have to say," Portman said of her well-wishers. "The weird thing is ... people knowing something that is so private but, I mean, you get used to that. It's just wild to walk down the street and have a complete stranger be like, 'Congratulations!' It's so nice, but it's a new experience to have people know that much about your most private things. [But] it's all good."

Portman and Millepied met while filming "Black Swan," for which Millepied was the choreographer and played the role of Portman's dancing partner. They have not made public when or where they plan to exchange vows.

Despite the fact that Selena Gomez had to cancel her appearance at the Santa Monica Place mall last Friday, plenty of screaming Selena fans returned to see her rescheduled performance at the mall on Monday afternoon, where Gomez thanked the crowd for their support and revealed that she was "feeling much better" after being hospitalized briefly over the weekend.

Following her two-song set, MTV News caught up with a few of Gomez's die-hard fans, who expressed their love and well-wishes for the 18-year-old star.

"I really love her," young fan Kirsten Mitchell gushed. "I still love her voice, I still love her clothing, and I love everything she did. I love her!"

"She's my role model," Brianna Akopyn said. "She's my inspiration."

"It's not only that she's famous," Alexa Kovacs added. "Obviously, we love her because of that, but she helps people, she does things for everything, that's just awesome to me."

"Ever since 'Barney,' I used to watch her on ['Barney & Friends'] and I've been with her since the beginning," Akopyn revealed. "She's such a great role model for everyone, including little girls. There's not many actresses that can really inspire little girls in the right way, and she can."

Speaking to Gomez's recent illness, Alexandra Pulido said no one could really tell that Selena had been under the weather. "I heard that she was sick over the radio back home where we live, she felt nauseated and stuff," she said. "But she sang really well today, she didn't show any of that."

We then asked fans to send Gomez their love via our video camera.

"Hey Selena, I love you so much," Pulido enthused. "I hope you're doing better. Say 'hi' to Justin [Bieber] for me."

"We love you so much," Kovacs added. "Thanks for everything, keep it up."

"We hope you're doing good," continued Akopyn. "Keep up the good work, we love you."

"Congrats on Justin," said Kovacs with a smile. "Yeah, he's a lucky guy," Akopyn added.

'Spider-Man' Musical Debuts After Web Of Issues

After months and months of pre-production, including injured actors, troubles with the script and a complete overhaul, the beleaguered Broadway musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" officially opened on the Great White Way on Tuesday night (June 14).

MTV News braved the rain and crowds at the Foxwoods Theater in the heart of midtown Manhattan to chat with the musical's production team about what the show's fits and starts have taught them along the way.

"It's just hard to do anything when you're trying to do something new and big and different," original director Julie Taymor said of the challenges. "If you are really trying something extraordinary, it's going to be difficult. And that's OK, because eventually you get there."

"I think what happened is that when they were in previews, they discovered that the demographic was so big, they had 6-year-old children in the audience, they had 86-year-old grandparents in the audience. They wanted to make sure the show could reach out to all of them," explained new director Philip William McKinley.

"I think we tried to make the story a bit more linear," added writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. "But we also tried to bring the characters that fans know and love, Mary Jane, Aunt May, Uncle Ben, the Green Goblin, we tried to give them more material and go a little bit deeper on their journeys."

McKinley told a story about watching two young boys in the theater's lobby "webbing" each other after one of the preview performances, who declared it the "best Broadway show ever" and said they couldn't wait to see their next musical.

"I thought, 'Perfect, let's develop those new audiences,' " McKinley said of bringing more people into the theater experience.

"The people that we've met in the community who really care for the art, they want to see new blood, they want to see new innovation," said Bono, who wrote songs for the show with U2 bandmate The Edge. "They want to see new characters onstage, and I think we brought that."

'Super 8' Creature's 'Cloverfield' Connection: J.J. Abrams Explains

Director responds to speculation that there's a link between the two movies.
By Eric Ditzian

Talking to J.J. Abrams about "Super 8" these days is a far different experience than it was just a few months ago. During a late April phone conversation, held as the director was putting the finishing touches on his film's score, Abrams was impressively, impenetrably tight-lipped about the project's many mysteries. When we asked how far into "Super 8" the much-hyped, never-seen creature would be revealed, he simply answered, "I would say the film will obviously answer that question."

But when Abrams stopped by the MTV Newsroom on Tuesday (June 14), fresh off his film's impressive, $35.5 million opening weekend, the guy couldn't have been more open. He answered lingering questions, cleared up sources of debate, and reveled in hearing how fans were taking in a film that is undoubtedly the most personal of his career. Among the most compelling topics we hit on were his revelations about the mysterious creature itself. (Needless to say, there are major spoilers below.)

Once the "Super 8" alien could be fully glimpsed as it wreaked havoc in a small Ohio town, some observers noted a similarity between the creature and the alien in 2008's "Cloverfield," which Abrams produced. As he explained it to us, there is a link between the two creatures, but not one that has any storytelling impact.

"The only connection between the creature in 'Super 8' and the creature in 'Cloverfield' is that they were both designed by the same guy, Neville Page," Abrams said. "They actually look very different, but they both have two eyes, a nose and a mouth. So, in that regard, it also looks a lot like Laurence Olivier!"

That answer puts to rest any suggestion that "Super 8" and "Cloverfield" exist in the same universe or that the "Super 8" alien's actions in the 1970s somehow impacted the other alien's later actions in "Cloverfield." When we asked Abrams if there is a same-universe connection between the two flicks, he said, "No."

Abrams went on to talk specifically about what they needed their multi-limbed "Super 8" alien to accomplish and why it ended up looking the way it did. "The creature in 'Super 8' needed to be scary and it also needed to have the ability to have a performance and be a little bit less scary too," he explained. "We didn't want a creature that was just running around thumping his chest and screaming. It needed to be something that was able to have a plan, have an experience. Smart enough to create something, build something.

"A lot of what the design was, was how do we do both?" Abrams continued. "If there was a big, strong soldier who had been taken in, was a prisoner of war and had escaped, if this guy was Rambo. Basically this could be someone who for some would be very scary, could be full of rage and also could be emotional and nuanced. So it really was a question of, he wasn't King Kong and a lot of what we needed to do was find a way to have a design that would give us that latitude to do both — the big scares and also the more subtle stuff."

'Twilight' Stars Return To Comic-Con For 'Breaking Dawn'

Summit announces cast Q&A session and 'exclusive footage' from first part of finale.

Attention, "Twilight" fans: Summit Entertainment announced Tuesday (June 14) via the "Twilight" Facebook page that "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" will play a significant role in the studio's presentation at San Diego Comic-Con this year.

"The studio will host one of the first panels of the day in Hall H on Thursday, July 21st dedicated to 'The Twilight Saga' franchise," Summit's statement reads. "Fans interested in the story's final chapters will be shown exclusive footage from 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1' and be treated to a filmmaker and cast Q&A session providing details on the first half of the epic two part finale, in theatres November 18, 2011."

We don't know which castmembers will be in attendance yet, but because July 21 is still a ways away, we imagine Summit will release a few more details as the epic comic and pop-culture convention approaches.

For those who have been following "Twilight" since the beginning, you will likely remember that Comic-Con 2008 was the first time the cast appeared together in public, creating a frenzy so big and shocking that other media outlets in addition to MTV News finally realized how serious the fans were about the soon-to-be blockbuster and its stars.

In 2009, the stars were back for more, and their popularity had grown considerably, leading to mile-long lines outside Hall H, where their panels were to take place. The three lead actors — Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner — admitted that the convention was still an intimidating place. The rest of the massive cast was also on hand for a series of appearances around San Diego, along with unveiling a slew of "New Moon" and "Twilight"-specific merchandise.

Last year, Comic-Con was without any major "Twilight" action since "Eclipse" had been released already and production on "Breaking Dawn" had yet to begin.

So what will happen this year?

Check out everything we've got on "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1."

Katy Perry Tour Was 'An Easy Decision,' Robyn Says

Swedish pop star downplays reports of friction between her and tourmate Perry, backstage at Bonnaroo.
By James Montgomery

Robyn
Photo: MTV News

Earlier this year, after Katy Perry announced Robyn as an opening act on her California Dreams Tour, the Swedish pop sensation was asked in several interviews (including our own) about her thoughts on Perry's music ... and, as it turns out, she didn't have any.

Of course, that non-answer began to make the rounds, and before long, folks began to interpret Robyn's silence on the subject to mean she didn't like Perry's music, which would've made opening for her slightly awkward, to say the very least.

But as Robyn told MTV News at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival over the weekend, nothing could be further from the truth. Except for the part where she said she didn't have an opinion on Perry's music. Because, at the time, she didn't.

"I think that girls are always expected to have opinions about each other, and maybe I don't have an opinion about some things, you know? That doesn't mean I have a bad opinion or a good opinion, it's just that, at that point, I never met her," Robyn said. "I didn't know much about her album that was out, and it was hard for me to have an opinion, and that's all. There's some songs that she's made that I think [are] amazing: the pre-chorus in 'Teenage Dream,' I wish I had wrote that. So, it's all good."

And Robyn was quick to point out that, while folks were practically falling over themselves to ask her for her take on Katy Perry, rarely, if ever, has she been asked for her opinions on artists of the opposite sex. While she stopped short of connecting the dots, you can pretty much infer any and all social ramifications that fact may contain. "I think it goes especially for girls. We're always expected to have thoughts about what the other person is doing, and I think that's silly," she said. "You very rarely get asked about another guy as a male artist."

And so, having put the supposed drama to bed, Robyn is ready to admit that she's having an absolute blast on the California Dreams Tour ... and she couldn't be happier to be sharing the stage with Perry.

"For me, bigger's not always better, I want to do things where I feel like my integrity of what I do onstage is not compromised, and I knew she was a fan and she wanted me to go on and just do my thing, and that's why I did it," she said. "It was an easy decision. If I get to do my thing, there's no place I won't do it. It's great to be on that stage and her audience is amazing."

After suffering a stroke on Sunday, Clarence Clemons is making a recovery. The sax player's longtime friend, Bruce Springsteen shared news of the E Street Band member's condition on Monday.

In a statement to MTV News, the Boss said, "By now, many of you have heard that our beloved comrade and sax player Clarence Clemons has suffered a serious stroke. While all initial signs are encouraging, Clarence will need much care and support to achieve his potential once again. He has his wonderfully supportive wife, Victoria, excellent doctors and health care professionals, and is surrounded by friends and family."

Springsteen, who has been working with Clemons for nearly four decades, went on to thank his fans for all of their well-wishes. "I thank you all for your prayers and positive energy and concern," he said. "This is a time for us all to share in a hopeful spirit that can ultimately inspire Clarence to greater heights."

Lady Gaga, who featured Clemons on her Born This Way track "Edge of Glory," asked her Little Monsters to send the musician some love via video messages on Monday. And Gaga took to Twitter again to share her feelings about the saxophonist. "In bed with Mommy thinking about Clarence, I can't wait for you to see the beautiful video we made together," she wrote. "He's a really special person." (At press time, there were still no details about when the video will be released.)

A rep for Springsteen noted that a special email address has been created for fans to send get-well wishes Clemons' way. They can send messages to notestoclarence@clarenceclemons.com. The rep added, "It is for notes only and not an information site and no one will be able to respond right now."

Kid Cudi 'Stepped Up' His Acting On 'How To Make It In America'

Scott Kid Cudi Mescudi made his acting debut last year as party animal Domingo Brown on HBO's "How to Make It In America." While he was satisfied with his performance, this year, he aims to make strides.

"This season, my character has a lot more depth than the first season, and one of the things that I really took seriously was preparing. I got an acting coach; I wanted to step it up," Cudi told MTV News after filming a scene for season two. "With anything that I'm doing, I always want to take it to the next level — whether it's music or acting."

The first step toward the G.O.O.D. Music rapper/singer's acting growth was to review tape, similar to how professional athletes analyze game film. "One thing that I did, I studied the first season, I studied my performance. I knew that I was gonna get a lot more this season," he said. "I wanted to deliver. I wanted to make the people at HBO happy. I wanted to make my management happy."

Cudi also kept his series co-stars in mind using Bryan Greenberg and Victor Rasuk as motivation to get better. "I wanted to be able to step on the camera with cats like Victor and Bryan Greenberg, who are pros at this sh--, guys who have been doing it for years, and to be able to do a scene with those guys and maintain and really deliver with the focus. I really feel like I stepped it up a whole lot, and I'm excited to see it."

The budding thespian may have to wait a few more weeks to watch: As of now, the series is rumored to begin airing during the summer with no specific date announced yet. When season two does eventually air, fans can expect to see Cudi's Domingo with an expanded role and a little more depth.

"The biggest lesson I've learned, I guess, is just the focus part of it, transforming into this character," he said. "First season, my character was in six out of eight episodes, and I kinda popped up and I was here and there, and my character was more perceived as the party guy. But I really did what I could with the first [season] without having many skills."

Are you looking forward to the return of "How to Make It in America"? Let us know in the comments!

Lil Wayne may have extended his I Am Still Music Tour through the summer, but he isn't going to stop there. "I actually plan on being one of those artists that can go on a tour when they're like 40, like U2, Michael Jackson," Lil Wayne told Sway during an interview after the taping of his "MTV2 Presents: Lil Wayne Unplugged."

With his upcoming Tha Carter IV set to drop August 29, Weezy added 40 more dates, creating a second leg of his I Am Still Music run. As it stands now, the tour will conclude on September 11 in Woodlands, Texas. This past weekend, the Young Money CEO played the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee, and has no plans of slowing down. "I actually plan on being one of those artists, with all the music and all the work I'm putting out, I believe that later on down the line, I can do Vegas. I can be the first hip-hop artist to do Vegas every night. That's the plan."

Fans got a televised taste of Weezy's live show when Birdman Jr. performed for the cameras during his "Unplugged" special, which aired on MTV2 on Sunday. Wayne rocked with a full band and ran through proven hits like "Fireman," "A Milli" and "Lollipop," as well as new favorites like "Nightmares of the Bottom" and "6 Foot 7 Foot."

It isn't all rap either. During his live shows, Wayne dips into his rock catalog, doing songs from his gold-selling Rebirth album as well. It's his deep and diversified well of tunes that will ensure that Wayne never goes home, unless he chooses to do so. "I plan on touring forever, actually," he said. "Probably when I'm like 50, I might be like, 'Let's go, gimme some dates.' "

Students at Booker T. Washington High School celebrate after winning President Obama's 2011 "Race to the Top"

Last month, the class of 2011 at Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis got the thrill of their lives when President Obama delivered the commencement speech at their graduation.

It was their prize for winning the second annual "Race to the Top" challenge, a nationwide competition sponsored by Viacom, the Get Schooled Foundation and, of course, the White House. The contest aims to find the school that best prepares its students for college and beyond, and the seniors at Booker T. created a video that showcased not only its accomplishments (math scores 20 percent higher than the state average, a 30 percent increase in graduation rates), but its resiliency too.

After all, the school is located in one of the nation's poorest cities and can claim the 14th-highest crime rate in the country. Not surprisingly, they won, which meant that President Obama not only headed down to Memphis for BTW's graduation, but he spent time with two of the school's brightest and best pupils: Cassandra Henderson and Christopher Dean, both of whom overcame tremendous obstacles to not only graduate, but make plans for the future (both will attend the University of Memphis in the fall).

As you can probably imagine, spending time with the president was a dream for both students. But Obama's visit also meant something to the city of Memphis. As Dean told MTV News last month: "I'm proud of my school and happy for my city ... this city needed the help that he brings. What better place to come than Memphis?"

And now, you can relive Booker T. Washington High School's big day with the premiere of "President Obama's Race to the Top," an in-depth program currently available on MTV.com. Through interviews with the students and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, you'll be with them as they pose for photos with the president in front of Air Force One, fight back tears of joy, and, above all else, make a memory that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Katy Perry rounded up quite the cast of cameos for her "Last Friday Night" video. The Marc Klasfeld-directed clip featured "Glee" stars Darren Criss and Kevin McHale, "Friday" singer Rebecca Black, Kenny G, Debbie Gibson and Corey Feldman. Oh, yeah: It also had Hanson as the video's house band!

"We were flattered to be asked, and it was great to be a part of it," Taylor Hanson told MTV News on Tuesday (June 14). "We had a really good time. It was one of those things that worked out really well. They said [they] needed a band to play the party, and we thought we could bring the party — even if it was a fictional party.

"First of all, Kenny G's an icon, so it was pretty awesome to, in some ways, have been able to perform together," Taylor continued. "And, again, there's a little bit of the tongue-in-cheek element to the entire concept of the video. We went in there without taking it too seriously. [Kenny G] was a scholar and gentleman, and it seemed like Katy was fulfilling the idea. She seemed like she was pretty happy with how things were coming together."

Taylor said it was hard to get Perry out of character as the geeky Kathy Beth Terry on set. "She was completely in character and to the point of like, 'OK, where does Katy Perry begin and this character end?' " he recalled. "And, honestly, it seemed like she kind of is a Method person. She seems like she goes in all the way. So we hung out a little bit, and during the performance and everything, obviously, we were all there on set, but she was definitely inside of the character throughout the shoot, which sounds tiring to me."

So what would it take to get the guys to play your house party? "We work for Twizzlers and good times," Taylor said. "You'd have to have a lot of spandex, a huge tree covered in toilet paper, Kenny G — apparently that's what it takes to get us to a house party."

And now Katy owes the brothers a cameo in their next video. "I think she has some obligation to spread the love on the next round," he said. "I don't know. ... We might have to come up with another character."

Singer Sly Pyper has already made quite the name for himself. After lending his vocals to Dr. Dre's first Detox single "Kush," Sly had many fans thinking the Doc had unearthed a recording of the now late Nate Dogg. But now, thanks to Bad Meets Evil's "Fast Lane" video, folks can put a face to the soulful voice. MTV News caught up with Sly on a recent trip to Detroit and got the scoop on how he landed the high-profile feature.

"It's part of the many years I've actually been working with Dr. Dre," Sly said of his involvement on "Fast Lane," the first single off of Eminem and Royce Da 5'9'' 's EP Hell: The Sequel, which dropped on Tuesday (June 14). "Recently, we came out to Detroit, and [Dre] was doing some collabs with Em already. Em had part of a hook that he asked me to come and just lay my vocals on, lay the velvet on. So I got involved, wrote a couple of pieces on the hook as well."

Even after laying the chorus alongside Akon on Dre's "Kush," Sly admits that his nerves started to get the best of him while he was in the studio with Slim Shady. "It was a little nervous at first, I could admit that," he said. "But I kinda felt like I knew them already just from the music. I kinda felt like we were from a similar place, so I let that stand out more than my nervousness about being starstruck. That just won everything over, made it easier for everybody."

Hell: The Sequel reunites Eminem and Royce Da 5'9", who originally recorded together as Bad Meets Evil for Em's Slim Shady LP and for the independent single "Scary Movies" back in 1999. After a rift between the two, Bad Meets Evil seemed like a pipe dream for rap fans. That was until Em went and signed Royce's quartet, Slaughterhouse, to his Shady Records earlier this year. With the fences mended, Royce and Em began working on Hell: The Sequel in a most organic fashion.

"We didn't get together and say, 'Hey, man, let's make a Bad Meets Evil record,' " Em said in a interview with MTV News. It was more so along the lines of us making amends and repairing our issues that we had, and then one day, Bad [Royce] brought a song to me and wanted me to jump on it, and the way it ended up coming out, it was pretty easy to do. It didn't take a lot of time. It was fun to do it. The way we knocked that record out kind of quickly ... it just morphed into this."

Nas Gets 'Nasty' On New Single

The Good Life single looks back to the early days of hip-hop while staying firmly planted in the present.

There's no R&B chord, A-list feature or catchy chorus. On "Nasty," the first single from Nas' 10th solo album, The Good Life, the rapper takes things back to hip-hop basics: hard rhymes over an infectious loop.

The song, which leaked online Monday night, is reminiscent of New York's 1980s infamous park jams and starts out with a DJ asking the rapper's native Queensbridge housing projects, "Are y'all ready to see Nasty Nas?" The question is, of course, rhetorical.

After Nasir pushed rap's envelope in 2008 on his politically charged Untitled album (originally titled N---er), fans have clamored for new solo material. Thankfully, "Nasty" lives up to its name, as the track's opening bars paint a picture of New York's pre-gentrified crack era: "Late-night candlelight fiend with diesel in his needle/ Queensbridge leader, no equal." Nas continues to toss numerous nods to the '80s and '90s on the Salaam Remi-produced track. There's a shout to Queens street legend Thomas "Tony Montana" Mickens, the now-closed Tunnel nightclub and the late Notorious B.I.G.

Still, "Nasty" isn't just a trip down memory lane. In fact, Nas remains with his feet firmly planted in 2011 as he reflects on his growth from a wide-eyed boy looking out of his project window to rap's upper echelon, while still leaving room to grow."We ain't going backwards, we're staying forward though," Nas said in a June interview with DJ Envy on MTV2's Sucker Free.

With the song's lyrics, he stays true to that notion. "Silent rage, pristine in my vintage shades/ I'm not in the winters of my life or the beginning stage," Nas spits before revealing his lustful interest in actress Antonique Smith, who played Faith Evans in the 2009 Biggie biopic "Notorious."

Nas continues to fire off quotables in rapid succession. "I'm so high, I never land like Mike Jackson's crib" and "Your flow's cheap as limousine liquor" are just a few examples of Nas' spirited wordplay.

If the new single is any indication of what fans can expect from the new Nas album, then for hip-hop fans, life is good.

Tyler, The Creator Wants MellowHype To 'Get Their Shine'

'People focus on me so much instead of the whole OF collective,' Tyler tells MTV News of buzzworthy Hodgy Beats and Left Brain.

Odd Future's MellowHype may seem to have gotten lost in Tyler, the Creator's shadow, but the rapper/producer duo of Hodgy Beats and Left Brain are still making a name for themselves.

The duo released the Matt Alonzo-directed music video for "64" on Monday at midnight through the OF collective's website. The song serves as the first single the Fat Possum Records re-release of MellowHype's BlackenedWhite album, which drops on July 12. MellowHype first performed "64" on Fuel TV's "Daily Habit" with labelmates Bass Drum of Death, and it has since become a fan favorite at OF shows.

When MTV News caught up with Odd Future's de facto leader, Tyler, the Creator, he said he was sure Hodgy and Left Brain could carry the OF momentum.

"I know they can, it's just that people focus on me so much instead of the whole OF collective. If they look deeper, they'll find way more stuff," Tyler said. "I want them to get their shine and stuff. I want to make sure that everyone knows the whole circle instead of just R. Kelly."

Tyler also said he wasn't really thinking about the numbers for his recently released second album. Goblin debuted at #5 on the Billboard album chart, selling more than 45,000 copies in its first week, and Tyler couldn't be less concerned one way or another.

"I think it's cool. I'm a kid who just made f---ing music out of boredom and made it to #5 [on the charts]. They'll never be able to do what I did or what I can do. They could never play instruments or start a cult of kids and sell those records. They just sit and talk about it, so I don't really care. And I'm R. Kelly."

Ryan Reynolds Reveals 'Green Lantern 2' 'War' Story

Before the first movie hits theaters on Friday, Reynolds and Blake Lively hint at sequel plots.

Ryan Reynolds was still busy in a blue-screen studio bringing the starry magic of "Green Lantern" to life when Warner Bros. started moving ahead with plans for a sequel. That's just the way things work in Hollywood.

Now, a year after screenwriters were hired to pen the script for "Green Lantern 2," much of the overall story seems to be in place, and as Reynolds told us recently, he's "pretty aware" of what's in store for his Hal Jordan, the test-pilot-turned-universe-protecting superhero. But with the first flick not hitting theaters until this Friday, the actor isn't going to spill all the details.

"I'm not throwing that out there at all," he said.

He did, nonetheless, toss us a few clues — most tantalizingly about what's in store for Jordan and Sinestro, an ally who eventually becomes one of Jordan's greatest enemies. "There's such a rich history with this character, so you get really excited about the possibility," Reynolds explained. "The inevitable war between Hal and Sinestro is something that will have to be dealt with in the second movie for sure, but there's always subplots and a lot of other interesting things going on that are setting up a possible third film."

One subplot that co-star Blake Lively is hoping to see in future films concerns her character, Carol Ferris. According to DC Comics lore, Ferris evolves from Jordan's on-again, off-again lover into a powerful being endowed with abilities similar to those that Jordan's Green Lantern Corps power ring gives him. She becomes known as Star Sapphire, another of Jordan's enemies. Lively, it seems, can't wait to battle Reynolds — either in a sequel or even the third film that Reynolds discussed. Not that she went into great detail about the plots either.

"Like the war between Star Sapphire and ...," Lively began, before trailing off.

Reynolds quickly picked up. "Oh, I was talking about Pokémon and Pikachu," he cracked. "But yes, that one as well."

'The League' Stars Round Up Shocking Confessions At Bonnaroo

MANCHESTER, Tennessee — In theory, FX's excellent original series "The League" is about fantasy football. But really, it's about so much more: namely, the trials and tribulations of a group of friends, and their ongoing attempts to mess with each other's lives. And that's a sport that never goes out of season.

During this past weekend's Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival , four-fifths of the show's stars — comedians Nick Kroll, Paul Scheer, Jon Lajoie and Stephen Rannazzisi — brought their mission to the masses, doing a pair of live sets in the fest's Comedy Theatre ... and those sets were heavy on the kind of good-natured provocation that has become the show's calling card.

So, in a lot of ways, it made sense to send the guys out into the fields of Bonnaroo, acre upon acre of shirtless dudes and blissed-out gals (some of whom also happen to be shirtless). In other words, it's a place overflowing with folks who are in need of a good messing with. With the sun beating down on our heads, we boarded a golf cart and let the cameras roll, watching in near disbelief as the four comics chatted up guys in Speedos and capes, bandana-clad ladies, a slightly terrified child and exactly one gentleman who admitted to an ongoing affair with a married woman.

The goal, as the guys would later tell us, was to create a sort of "Bonnaroo Taxi Cab Confessions," only, you know, in a golf cart. It was, to say the very least, a slightly amazing shoot (click the embedded video to see for yourself). So without further ado, we're proud to present the cast of "The League" in all their comedic glory ... running wild over the vast expanses of the 'Roo, messing with complete strangers every step of the way.

Is 'Glee' In NKOTBSB's Future?

After a full show dedicated to their pop contemporary Britney Spears, NKOTBSB's music (or their individual songs as New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys) seems like a perfect fit for "Glee." And considering that "Glee" star Matthew Morrison will be joining the boy-band supergroup on tour later this summer, perhaps now is the right time to get some of their classic pop tunes on the hit Fox show.

"I think it would be probably flattering to be on 'Glee,' but there seems to be like a rush of pop stars who are just stumbling over themselves to be on 'Glee,' " New Kids' Donnie Wahlberg told MTV News backstage at the Izod Center before they took the stage later that night.

He added that it would have to be the perfect scenario to make it all work out for the guys. "I think if we found a way, collectively, it would be wonderful. It would be a treat, an honor," he said. "It would be wonderful for a lot of our fans. I think we're so focused on the tour ... it would be a wonderful treat, but we're doing this."

While the fate of their music on the show is open to debate, Backstreet Boys' Brian Littrell seemed pretty open to putting his acting chops to work instead. He even had a character in mind should a cameo scenario work itself out. "I'm a character. I'll play anybody," he said. "I'll play the shady-looking youth minister. Coming from the Bible Belt, it's creepy."

Which New Kids or Backstreet song would you want to hear on "Glee"? Share your ideas in the comments!

Key cameo: Lil Wayne on "Ballin' "

With his oft-delayed fourth solo album, TM 103, in label limbo, Young Jeezy took it back to basics and reunited with DJ Drama on his latest mixtape, The Real Is Back.

"Jeezy and Drama together, that's a clear win-win, man," Drama told Mixtape Daily. "N---as gonna stop actin' like we ain't built this. You like our style, you watch our style, we still own our style."

As self-serving as his boasts may seem, Drama and Jeezy are credited with popularizing a unique brand of trap music that has dominated Southern rap since the early 2000s. At first, the rap/DJ tandem were inseparable, starting with their 2004 tape Tha Streetz Iz Watchin' and their 2005 classic Trap or Die. A rift then started to grow between the two, but in December 2009 Jeezy appeared on Drama's "Gangsta Grillz Radio" show on Atlanta's 107.9 and they buried the hatchet.

Now the duo are back to work, returning to grace on The Real Is Back. "Me and Drama had a couple of conversations. When I came through the station, we chopped it up. We was talkin' about doin' another tape because we had so much history as far as The Streets Is Watching, Trap or Die, the list goes on and on," Jeezy said. "It just was time, the streets needed it. So I had to get in the studio, had to do my whole one, two thing. As usual, he was on point."

The tape is filled with street-centered anthems like the kinetic "How U Want It." The track features a menacing instrumental on which Jeezy employs his patented slow flow and trap-raps. "How you want it, hard or soft/ Get 'em in, get 'em off," the Snowman spits.

Lil Wayne appears on "Ballin'," while Fabolous helps out on "Rollin'." Still, Jeezy keeps his ear to the street and also collaborates with underground ATL spitter Alley Boy as well as CTE's new signee Freddie Gibbs on "Run DMC" and "Do It for You." There are no attempts at big radio singles here, just hard-edged street-hop.

"We invented the wheel when it comes to that type of music and that type of tape so we just did what we did," Jeezy said of his reunion with Drama. "I felt like I wanted to take it back to what I do. Young Jeezy, nothing else. I'm not trying to sell this to nobody, I'm trying to do what I did in the beginning: go hard."
